Tecsun S-2200x radio ondes courtes

I really want to get into shortwave radios, how do i build one? radioshack doesnt exist where i am anymore
ok so!!! most ppl usually don't build a radio to get into shortwave so idk how to help u there. but if u wanna get into it I'd totally reccomend checking out the following:
this is a list of online software defined radios u can listen to for free. u should be able to find one near u
this is the one a lot of ppl use, based out of the Netherlands (so will be mostly European stations). just if you wanted one ppl have tried and tested and marked a lot of stations on.
http://short-wave.info/
and this website lets you set where you are and see what things you can hear around you. it's really useful for checking what you're listening to as well.
if you want a physical radio, i got mine secondhand on ebay (a tecsun pl-310ET, it's really good especially for its size and price) so I'd definitely reccomend checking ebay or whatever marketplace site you can use.
but you can totally just use an online one if you want it's honestly a better experience unless you're into the "i picked this up with my own equipment" feeling.
if you can find a radio it might come with a wire antenna as well as the inbuilt one, but the classic diy antenna is like 3m or so of copper wire you throw out the window or into a tree or something and wrap around the antenna. just don't do that near powerlines or in a thunderstorm. an antenna and knowing the best times to listen are basically the two big things that'll affect the quality of what you're hearing.
if you're not in the US or Canada DO NOT trust ppl from there when they say so and so brand is cheap. it's like when they act like lodge cast iron pans are cheap everywhere lol. generally the kind you'll be able to get will depend on where in the world you are.
in general a lot of ppl trying to give advice are old men with too much time and money so definitely do not feel like you need to spend any/much money or that if you're not doing so and so you're not doing it right. (and don't let ppl convince u that you need to build a fancy dipole antenna first thing)
keeping track of solar conditions and stuff isn't something u need to care about too much but might explain if you're not hearing stuff (or u might be using a band that works best during the night in the middle of the day lol). best time is generally dusk and night in an area without too much electrical noise.
hopefully that's helpful! I really enjoy shortwave listening it's a fun hobby :)

Shortwave Radiogram, 1-7 August 2024 (program 364): Digital modes created without photosynthesis
Not many of us are awake for the "red-eye" edition of Shortwave Radiogram Mondays at 0800-0830 UTC (4:00 am EDT) on 5850 kHz. I was awake this past Monday  (29 July), when I heard the WRMI station ID at 0800 UTC. Then silence. After about minute WRMI's filler music (an interesting, eclectic mix) started. WRMI responded to my email, but I don't think they ever found out what happened. All the other transmissions of program 363 on WRMI (and WINB) were broadcast as scheduled. Here in northern Virginia, it's still hot. We're on track to experience the most days per summer above 90F/32C. And there is the humidity and the drought. At least I'm retired now and no longer must cope with cars on the Washington Metro (subway) with broken air conditioning. That made for an interesting evening commute. A video of last week's Shortwave Radiogram (program 363) is provided by Scott in Ontario (Wednesday 1330 UTC). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is provided by Roger in Germany. Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 364, 1-7 August 2024, in MFSK modes as noted:  1:44  MFSK32: Program preview  2:52  MFSK32: Plans for world-first space-based energy grid  6:28  MFSK64: 'Dark oxygen' created without photosynthesis?  9:33  MFSK64: This week's images 28:34  MFSK32: Closing announcements Please send reception reports to [email protected] And visit http://swradiogram.net Twitter: @SWRadiogram or https://twitter.com/swradiogram (visit during the weekend to see listeners’ results) Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/567099476753304 Shortwave Radiogram Gateway Wiki: https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Shortwave_Radiogram_Gateway

Other Shortwave broadcast programs that include digital text and images include The Mighty KBC, Pop Shop Radio and Radio North Europe International (RNEI). Links to these fine broadcasts, with schedules, are posted here.
Mitch in Arizona received these images on a Tecsun PL-880, July 27, 2024, 0230-0300 UTC on 9265 kHz from WINB Pennsylvania ...

On the Highland & Island trips I've done over the last couple of years, I've been amazed how prevalent good cellphone signals are compared to my open-ended stravaiging a decade or more ago. While undoubtedly convenient, it does detract from the sense of being 'out there' that is one of the reasons for even doing these trips, so I decided on a different approach this time.
In everyday life I use my phone as a radio, a TV, an MP3 player, a book, a camera and a vast map of the entire UK. It's a Moto G84, bought last November to replace a damaged four year old Moto G7 Power that was getting a bit flakey. On this latest trip, I wanted to reduce reliance on my phone to both concentrate on 'being in the moment,' and also extend the time before I'd have to stop somewhere to recharge my various gadgets.
Paper maps, an FM Radio and an old Kindle, plus a miserly approach to using the phone in conjunction with my old Ravpower battery pack....worked well. The Tecsun FM radio, which I've had for a couple of years but not used much, always got clear reception (even in deep valleys once I touched the aerial against my tent pole to boost the signal). The Kindle lasted the trip on its initial charge so no concerns there. I kept the phone in airplane mode most of the time, extending the run time considerably. When I started running lower on power I stopped using my Bluetooth headphones and switched to a cheap set of wired earbuds that I have as a backup. I didn't actually use paper maps that much in the end, preferring to use OS chunks I'd defined and downloaded prior to leaving home; doing this in airplane mode appears to use very little power.
With these strategies in place, my 26800 mAh Ravpower battery pack easily lasted the full nine days I was away. I did also have a small one-shot battery I could've used to boot up the phone on the journey home to access train tickets, etc, but didn't need it in the end. With a more rigorous rationing of phone use I think I could extend time off-grid by another 2-3 days at least.
So how did I take this picture, you're asking...? Well, while the Moto G84 is in many ways an improvement on the Moto G7 Power, its camera isn't as good. Having repaired the G7's damaged power port and stripped out all its apps, I brought it along as, effectively, an offline compact camera. The thinking was I'd use it to take photographs then Bluetooth them over to the G84. In practice I hardly used it, but the underlying premise was sound and I might do it again.

Diversify Your Information Gathering
With Donald Trump’s direct attacks on US media sources like CNN or MSNBC, we should anticipate that we won’t necessarily be able to rely on them all the time. Consider that we may be cut off from them entirely, or that they will self-censor themselves for preservation purposes. Potentially they will be turned into right-wing propaganda outlets for the regime. This might not be immediately evident if it occurs, so I’m not sure it’s wise to trust any US-based mainstream corporate-owned news outlets at this stage. I’m currently maintaining deep skepticism of everything I see right now.
We should also disabuse ourselves of the notion that we can trust algorithmically sorted news gathering via social media networks like Facebook, Bluesky, and Threads. Of these, I tend to trust Mastodon the most since it’s a decentralized open source federated network, which makes it resistant to manipulation. Sites like Reddit can be good as a means of gathering information, but due to their centralized nature are potentially easy to be compromise by bad actors.
I’ve made a list of news outlets I think are reasonably reputable and have gotten myself a nice RSS reader in order to obtain direct feeds of their content on an ongoing basis. You should consider getting one as well if you don’t already have one. You can subscribe to lots of feeds on there and export an OPML list of your subscriptions to clients on other platforms. I’ve included a download link below.
On Mac and iOS, I use an app called Reeder Classic.
On Windows, I use RSS Radar. It’s also available for Mac.
And on Linux I use Newsflash.
Here are some of the news sources I’m choosing to prioritize: Al Jazeera English, BBC News, CBC News, Democracy Now, DW News English, Jacobin, Le Monde English, NPR, ProPublica, RFI, The Globe and Mail, The Guardian, The Stranger (it’s a Seattle institution), WBUR, WGBH.
I’ve also got a VPN provider called Nord VPN, so I can use the British version of the BBC News website, which is somewhat different than the US version.
Consider getting your a shortwave radio. While I don’t use these as news sources, with a simple handheld unit (I have a Tecsun R9700DX), I’ve been able to pick up Radio Nikkei based in Japan, Radio New Zealand, Radio Havana Cuba, and various other broadcasters as far as the Philippines, China, Russia, Central America, and even Canada. There’s a long history of using shortwave radio to send information across borders to suppressed populations. That’s what we were doing with Voice of America and others until Trump shut them down this past day. It is possible this form of information dissemination will become necessary again in our time for our own use to gather news from abroad.
With regard to long distance radio, by the way, here’s a fun fact: You can also pick AM radio stations located across the country over long distances at night. From Seattle, when I’m DXing, I can often pick up AM broadcasters located in San Francisco, Reno, and Colorado.
Get yourself a ham radio. I have a handheld Baofeng UV-5R. You’ll find that there regular local repeater groups you can tune into and hear from people all over your region and indeed the world. It’s fun to listen to them, and hear people talk about things happening on the ground in your locality. Get a ham radio operator license. I haven’t yet done this, but I would like to eventually. Even if you don’t have a license, you can still listen, and in a life and death emergency situation, it is also permissible to use them unlicensed under specific conditions (see exceptions 97.403 and 97.405).
Above all else. Keep an open mind. Be skeptical of what you see and hear. Think before you share. Consider the source and keep in mind any biases the sharer might have had.
Good night, and good luck.
My OPML file: While I tend to follow lots of tech news sites and bloggers as well, I’ve extracted just the information sources I’ve put together that are relevant to me for the purposes of this post. Maybe you can use it as a starting point for yourself: Download
