hmmm does a music count as media here. ive mostly been obsessing over music lately

i was gonna talk abt an mcr album but u saying dont be afraid to be pretentious reminded me of one of my biggest interests rn for some reason which is the late nineties/early 2000s chicago/glenview area hardcore scene.

this started as just a branch of my fall out boy obsession because i couldnt find like any info on one of the bands patrick used to be in (Xgrinding processX) and it sounded rlly interesting so i went down a rabbit hole starting with the singular website i could find that even gave a clue to it existing (excluding articles abt fob that briefly mention it AND GIVE ABSOLUTELY NO SOURCE THANKS A LOT) which you have to view with the wayback machine much like 95% of the websites i find information abt these bands on. it took like 5 hours but i actually managed to find five of their songs !!!! none featuring patrick tho sadly, it seems like he joined later in the bands lifespan<\3 anyways that led to me discovering a lot of other bands they seemed close with and its just really fun discovering new music like that. also during one of my searching for information periods i randomly found a ton of pictures taken by joe trohman from fob which was pretty crazy cuz i wasnt even looking for anything related to it that day!!!!! anyways ive found quite a few cool bands but by god it is so embarrassing trying to talk about them cuz its like oh this is my favorite band right now they have 4 songs broke up 30 years ago and you can listen to one song on the dupage county hardcore archive bandcamp and your best bet for the others is by hunting down one of the maybe five cassettes that still exist. i promise im not trying to one up you with my knowledge of really obscure band i just have bad taste okay

also on one of the cassette covers of an album grinding process featured on they described their music as sounding “like coalesce with flavor flav occasionally rocking the mic” which i very much enjoy and also that is accurate yeah

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

this is SUCH a hard question!!!!! i've changed my mind about what fic to pick about ten times, but i think i'm going to be true to my eddie diaz heart and say one single static frame. it's kind of an insane pick, bc they literally don't get together in it, but i feel pretty proud of the writing and it's eddie perspective. which is essential imo. i think it's a good look inside of eddie's head, which is something i loveee to do in my fics, and it has the romance, even if doesn't go all the way to getting together! i'm going to post this answer b4 i change my mind again!

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?

phone calls and flashbacks LMAO. i have the biggest weakness for doing some stupid slightly convoluted structure that triples the length of what would've been a single scene fic by adding an alarming number of flashbacks. i also loveeee to write a phone call. love to write long distance. love to come up w/ a convoluted reason for the guys to be out of sync in some way - for whatever reason, a good number of my fics aren't actual get-togethers, which is sooo funny to me. it's a very rare thing that i'll read a fic where they don't actually get together, and yet i'm out here writing them left right and center. oops!

firstly, thank you. this is one of the best compliments i have ever gotten for my writing and i would like to eat it

secondly, i literally spent like 5 mins trying to figure out what ops and hcs means but i am going to assume it means opinions and headcanons??? consulted my friend and she also said opinions and headcanons so we are going to go with that. if it doesn’t mean that then this is going to be really embarrassing BUT.

i actually have like. 3 hualian idol au wips buried somewhere in my gdocs. maybe one day i will complete them but in the mean time here are some of my. ops and hcs:

- i had an idol au a few years ago where hua cheng is in a group with feng xin, mu qing, and he xuan, and i still think that’s so fucking funny. i just dug through my gdocs and found the 1 page i wrote of it back in september 2021:

- alternatively i think having all 4 calamities in an idol group is also equally hilarious. and then another group is xianle trio. sqx and swd an idol duo. OR three tumors are a group and sqx a solo idol.

- alternatively xianle trio group and huaxuan duo because i am crazy and predictable.

- idk if this counts but i have another wip from february 2021 where xie lian works at a convenience store and is a fan of hua cheng the idol. like SUCH a big fan. he goes broke to buy all the merch, knows of him from the predebut days, attends every concert albeit his nosebleed seats, etc etc. and then one day hua cheng walks into the store in like a mask and stuff and immediately falls in love with the pretty cashier and stuff. u know how hualian goes. anyways i also found the 1 page of this au i had written:

oh my god ok so i actually had more of this au dumped in my dms with bella (astrocosmos on ao3). so fxmq are xl’s besties in this au and they are both secretly big fans of hua cheng even tho they would rather die than admit that out loud. one day they all accidentally meet in the merch line at one of hua cheng’s concerts and all hell breaks loose. 

fxmq: [fighting in the merch line] xie lian walking up to them out of nowhere: do you guys think i should get the ghost city era picket or the paradise manor era picket? fxmq, immediately: OBVIOUSLY GHOST CITY—wait, XIE LIAN?!?!?!!?!?! xie lian: [smiling serenely] hello guys

MOVING ON

- hualian idol au where xianle trio are an idol group and hua cheng literally comes to EVERY SINGLE ONE of their fansigns, buys a SHIT ton of albums to make sure he gets in every time, and at the actual fansign he just completely ignores fx and mq and instead spends the entire time complimenting xl and showering him with presents, etc etc. xie lian’s company literally has to enforce a No Gifts At Fansigns rule bc of hua cheng. fx and mq thinks that he is the creepiest thing on the planet. there are whole subgroups of netizens who HATE hc and think he’s really creepy bc he’s ALWAYS around xl. meanwhile xl thinks hc is the cutest person ever and is in love with him. yeah.

- hualian idol au with solo idols xie lian and hua cheng and their fanbases HATE each other. think armys and blinks. engenes and teumes. i can’t really think of any more but u get the idea. meanwhile xl and hc are dating LMAOOO

- ok that ^ but imagine like a socmed/twt au where like. this random twt account starts getting really popular and they are like hualian shippers and both of xl and hc’s fanbases make fun of them all the time and it’s literally the only thing the two groups ever agree on: that this random acc is stupid af and completely delusional. THEN ONE DAY the admin of the acc posts a selfie and guess what. it’s hua cheng. and then xl replies to the selfie from his very real main twitter account and the internet just goes fucking bonkers

ooo this is difficult omg im going to pull from my own music taste and not generally, because it narrows down my options.

i don't know if this works for opening so much as it does endingggg, but airbag by radiohead. "i am born again / in an interstellar burst / i am back to save the universe." because. well. you know. also just a really epic song, radiohead will always go kinda hard as exist music imo

24. if you could design your own line of merch, assuming money or time wasn't an issue, what would that look like?

oh, definitely collectable figures. lame? maybe! but i personally think it'd be awesome. especially for characters who have big roles in both mcd & ms, you could like, switch out their outfits (?) and add/remove features to switch between them. or the shadow knights, at least vylad and laurance, can switch between their armour & normal skins. and when i say "collectable figure" i'm not talking like, funko-pops or youtooz, i mean a nendoroid type thing, with those changeable aspects. soo cool

28. if you could ask jess one question about the series and recieve a direct answer, what would it be? 

i have a lot, actually, and i cant think of any super good ones about unanswered lore or story, so one about her decision as a writer that might be a little critical: “why did you decide to take the ms characters in such different directions than their mcd counterparts?” — it’s just something i have a lot of holdups about, like, that still bothers me. i know that putting fantasy war-torn tormented characters into a slice of life story requires SOME changes, but the differences are so drastic with some (eg garroth) and i just want to know what the thought process behind that was. if there was one, if the flanderization was even something intentional.
