This has probably been discussed before, but the way Nani was animated in the surfing scene seemed So much more professional compared to David. I've never surfed and haven't watched real surfing probably ever BUT
We see David on the waves first and he has this stutter in the water, a trip to put it. It's So subtle, but the moment Nani took to the waves it was like she Was the waves. Effortless looking, smooth but also Walking on waves, with Power. I noticed that difference and went back to David and I noticed his "trip."
Everything in animation is Deliberate and honestly I think this attests to that. Nani was set to "ride the waves" of her surfing career while David does it as sport, just to catch them when the opening comes. She Lit Up while riding, she worked on that water but she also Loves it like a 2nd skin. I may not surf but when I swim, I swim. I understand that feeling with water, maybe not salt water but water and the waves sometimes nonetheless, the way it just feels like nothing else. A hug, a home, a 2nd skin. The rush of swimming till I'm breathless, seeing what I can do This time in This pool. I had the entire deep end to myself last year at a pool because, for some reason, No One wanted to be in it. Kids adults, teens. The only people with me were my friends because we were antisocial and it was Barren. When I say I couldn't help myself I mean I did Not want to get out for any jumps or want to even hold onto the ledge that long. I full sended myself until we had to leave for food.
It was my Best experience swimming and I imagine Nani has felt that freedom almost every time she's surfed. Maybe one Really good day in the water, but even in slightly crowded pools or a good creek and I feel at home again. And I imagine That's what she feels every time she gets on a board with the intent to catch a wave.
The way she's animated in her body and her face makes me believe she's in her Element in that scene. It's so So well done.
#I don't know how I forgot this was my favorite movie. Hey! I was curious to know your opinions and expectations for the live action httyd movie?
Hi Silly!! Its been a while good to see you!! Sorry if this is a bit of a downer bc.
I genuinely hate it. I understand that Dean Deblois is working on it despite previously denouncing these kinds of remakes because Universal was gonna make it regardless of his involvement, so he might as well try, but that doesn't change that it is a soulless cashgrab. The costumes and lighting look cheap in many scenes, lots of them are also very cluttered – breaking very basic rules of cinematography in how to frame something you want to be the focus, despite so many scenes being almost shot for shot with the original and basically having an existing template to work off of, it's often difficult to tell where you're supposed to be looking, they are very poor at whatever it is they are trying to convey.
Speaking of shot for shot, I will never not think Especially in a case like this, that the storyboarders, writers, character designers Etc, the people who originally brought us these iconic moments aren't getting a single cent for their work being reused is disgustingly greedy.
It especially feels like salt in the wound when in interviews they're going on about this improving on the original, making it safe for newer audiences, I.E people who wouldn't typically watch it as they don't believe animation is a valid storytelling medium for anyone over the age of 10, despite the only real difference being new actors and seemingly a few one off additional scenes in a desperate attempt to act like they're doing Something new and like this isn't just one big move at pushing the franchise further into modern relevancy for the theme park.
Also Dreamworks recently began outsourcing their animation so it's cheaper, and they are Absolutely doing that here seeing as they are an animation studio and have never made a live action film prior, the use of cgi looking. Like That is because it's cheap and easy labor and they can push non-unionized workers overseas more than would be allowed by American union standards.
I do not have high expectations for this movie. I think it is a very lackluster attempt and trying to get on the bandwagon Disney started with their remakes, and it's disappointing it seems to be working.
The only possible upside is that with Nico Parker as Astrid, and Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, they are breaking their odd and interesting pattern of having Poc/Ethnically ambiguous (but Not like our good white protagonists! I will never be over how Drago Bludvist's actual design notes boil down to that.) characters only allowed exist within the universe as villains.
The first movie isn't even out yet and they already announced the sequel, it is very clear they believe the film is going to succeed and seeing as I've seen Many people claim they Don't think httyd needed a remake and don't particularly Like this, but in the same breath say they'll go and see it anyway, it might. And that's honestly disappointing because this movie only exists due to corporate greed and the fact they're betting on people not having very high standards for what they spend their money on.
Due to specifically how again this is a cashgrab, the original artists are getting no compensation or even credit from what I've seen, for their work being reused, I can't in good faith support this movie. And for the people who are indecisive in saying they'll watch anything new httyd related but also don't Love this, if you decide to watch it, even if just out of curiosity, just pirate it please. You as a consumer hold Some power you have the final say on what you spend your money on this movie doesn't have to succeed please just let it fade into irrelevancy. You deserve better, the people who worked on the original movie deserve better, hell the fucking actors deserve better than to be in such a half assed product. We need to start actually holding these multi-billion dollar studios to higher standards, and letting this flop is a good way to do that.
Like show them the original movie is enough, and we don't need something they're just betting on for a quick and easy cashgrab.
#Or like buy a ticket to something actually worth your money then go in the httyd theater after they scan it unless it's#someone who is a grown up hall monitor cinema workers don't gaf at least in my experience#idk#Tumblr user nokkiart has a rlly good post on the cashgrab and cheap labor aspect. ill rb it in a second actually#i Really Really Really hate this movie 💔#httyd#httyd live action#moth.txt#sillyjestar#writing this sll in oje sitting at 4am if theres typos oh well whatever#ask

this is (hopefully) gonna be my one post about the live action because I do not want to hear or think about it. also if you hold or have expressed any of the opinions here that's totally cool and fine, this is in no way personal and I'm still happy for you if you can enjoy it!
This thing does not need to exist. Words cannot describe how much I do not care. The color palettes, shots, sets, costumes, etc. so far seem so close to the original that it makes me question why they would even bother. If you're going to do live action, there should at least be a PRETENSE that you have something to add by doing so. I hate Disney live action remakes as much as the next guy, but at least they tend to look like what the movie would look like if it were live action, y'know? And if you can't do that, that's maybe a good sign that the thing was in the medium it was in for a reason. I saw someone say that it looks like an insurance commercial and I can't stop thinking about that. Everything that looked cold and misty and atmospheric in the original looks sad and like it's filmed on a stage.
I saw someone say that we should at least be grateful that we're getting new content for the franchise and hoping the lore would be expanded. I could maybe, maybe even see that perspective too IF HTTYD WASN'T ALREADY AN EXTREMELY EXTENSIVE AND FLESHED OUT WORLD. We have a theatrically released TRILOGY. We have three pretty solid TV shows with the same characters totalling EIGHT SEASONS and 118 EPISODES. We have multiple video games, multiple shorts, and two more adjacent TV shows. And if that's not enough dragons for you, then there are the twelve books that it was based on, which are pretty different but just as beautiful and special.
I will not be happy with a live action remake. I was never going to be. There does not need to be more. And I especially do not want a washed out shot for shot regurgitation of a perfectly good movie spat out in my lap when I could literally just be watching that movie. No thank you. I'm done hearing about the thing.
And most importantly, I think the thing that really gets me about the discussion around live action remakes is when people are desperately reaching for good things to say about them or acting like "oh, well, you gotta hand it to them for this one aspect at least." You. Do. Not. You don't. I saw this a lot with the ATLA live action too, and while it's totally okay if you enjoy it or you just like seeing something in live action, you do not have to look for things to like. You SHOULDN'T have to look for things to like. We deserve better, and we do not have to waste our precious minutes on earth being grateful or looking for positives in a watery forgettable useless piece of media when there are so many good and beautiful things in the world.
#pickle pontificates#httyd#httyd live action#httyd salt#<- tagging so folks can filter#yeah that's my half baked rant and I'm done talking about it now.#will follow my own advice and go think about things that actually enrich my life

The Crow Reboot Rant

NAH NAH NAH, WHOSE IDEA WAS IT TO MAKE ERIC DRAVEN LOOK LIKE A DISCOUNT VERSION OF JARED LETTO'S JOKER?!? IMMA THROW HANDS!!! 💀🔪
There's just so much wrong about this reboot and as a fan of the original crow movie and graphic novel I cannot even begin to express how much this disappoints me.
More to rant ahead, just know it's hella long.
I recently saw and heard more news about the crow reboot and upon seeing what to expect I no longer have any interest in watching the reboot, in fact I wish the fans continue to roast the hell out of it to show the people in charge of this reboot that this is NOT what the people want or need.
Now I just want to go on and say that I have no problems with Bill Skarsgard as Eric Draven. I think he's a hella great actor with lots of potential of doing a great job at being the next crow actor, but my issue is with the writers and the people who made the overall decision to make this cult classic "appeal to modern audiences" which that quote alone was enough for me to completely abandon all hope of this movie being any good. I was already skeptical enough about the reboot and my expectations were low but THIS...this definitely made my expectations drop even lower than they already were and that's surprising to me. Honestly at this point the three crow sequels were a lot better and that's saying a lot because if y'all have seen those you'll know they weren't that good either but at least they were entertaining. 😭 (In my opinion at least, feel free to disagree on that).
It gets even better when you find out that the inspiration for reboot crow was Post Malone and Lil Peep. 💀
Like...is that what appeals to modern audiences nowadays? Was that really necessary for modern day Eric Draven? Absolutely not! The original movie and comic took place in the 90's so LEAVE IT IN THE 90's! Not everything has to be modernized for the sake of appealing to modern audiences. What modern audiences need right now are original stories with good and compelling writing (which probably won't happen any time soon since Hollywood proved to be in the middle of an imagination drought).
Sure, one can argue that the original movie wasn't completely faithful to the source material, that being the graphic novel. However, Due to the unfortunate passing of Brandon Lee during the making of the film, James O 'Barr has stated that he had finished the film as a tribute to Brandon who was a sweet and caring man and so decided to write Eric Draven to have some resemblance to Brandon in the film as a way to honor him. With that in mind, it's no wonder people are much harsher about the reboot, myself included, and find that this reboot would be an insult to not only James O 'Barr but also to Brandon. (Those who know the tragic history of The Crow graphic novel would understand why that's the case but in short it was a way for James to deal with grief).
In my opinion, the original crow film does not need a reboot or a remake. It may not be the best or perfect movie in the world but it is a cult classic and is one of the most beloved movies that holds a dear place in people's hearts. Mine included. Which is why instead of making another movie based on Brandon Lee's crow, that the other crow characters get a shot at the big screen since Eric Draven isn't the only one who gets brought back to life by a crow. I can understand how this might potentially not gain enough traction because it's not the iconic Eric Draven, but I do believe that with good writing and loyalty to the source materials, that it can be very possible to make a good and fresh crow movie without piggy backing off of an already beloved and successful film with the help of the fans who most likely have read the other comics.
In my opinion, I don't think this reboot is worth anyone's time (at least for those who are hardcore fans of the Crow franchise) and I have no hope for this whatsoever. In fact, I'm gonna go rewatch the original movie for the millionth time and reread the original graphic novel because I've already accepted the fact that any potential of getting a good crow movie is officially out the window. Not only that but the book and film are my comfort watch and reads so there's that.
For anyone who wants to hear more details about the reboot I recommend looking up articles or watch videos about it on youtube since that's where I heard the majority of the news.

Brandon Lee will forever be the best Eric Draven out there, may he rest in peace.

Rating different variations of Peach's Throne Room
Not rating all of them, just rating the ones I have pictures of. Originally I was gonna do a tier list ranking of them, but I think it'd be easier just to rate them.
Superstar Saga
The rug here is objectively gaudy. I kind of want to like how gaudy the rug is, I enjoy that it has this unintentional transsexual color scheme if you exclude the yellow, but it's a little too gaudy even for my taste. The pixel art for the curtains could be better. The mushroom shaped windows are a nice touch. What I appreciate most is the originality in the throne design, which is nice because original throne design is lacking in some other variations you'll see below. 7/10
Superstar Saga Remake
My friend's reaction to the rug change ↑. I wasn't a fan of the rug personally, and I'm fine with them getting rid of the fucked up long mushrooms, since they probably got rid of them in the Japanese version of the game, but surely they could've kept the the transsexual color scheme? They probably chose an overall red color scheme to make sure the characters didn't blend into the background, which is something you have to worry about if your characters don't have outlines. I do agree with this opinion though:
Okay sure, Peach wears pink with red already, but this throne is just such a nasty hot pink, it's kind of revolting. The throne design is very unoriginal compared to the throne from before, like I feel like I could get this throne in some basic toy doll set. I also hate the use of the golden spirals on the back of the throne. Gives a very basic Disney Princess vibe, I'm not into it. The curtains look better and I think bigger windows was a good choice, but those are some of the only compliments I could give it. 5/10
Bowser's Inside Story
This one's my favorite. I love how the colors come together, a very fun choice of pinks, yellows, oranges, and reds. I find it interesting how in both Superstar Saga and this one, there's a reoccurring symbol of three mushrooms, the center one larger, above the other two, and wearing a crown. And in both games, the symbol has two arrows pointing up in it? Interesting.
Anyways I like the banners, the pillars, the hanging lights, and I think the curtains are better here than they were in OG Superstar Saga. The throne design also feels original, which I appreciate, and it's a throne design that's pleasing to the eye as well.
My only complaints is that it feels slightly less, ceremonial? My friend also said this, and I agree, I think it's nice for her throne to be higher up off the ground, but the platform in which the throne sits has this more like, modern tech kind of feel to it? And that's relevant to later in the game, which I won't spoil, but the flooring in the hallways also have this cold modern feeling to it that doesn't really fit the brick walls of the doorways that lead to those halls. Other than that though, this is a great throne room design. 9/10
Paper Jam
Feels like they got lazy here compared to previous examples. I understand having a more simple flooring and a more simple rug so as not to distract from the characters. Not into the checkered flooring, maybe they should've just done a basic marble flooring instead. I HATE the golden spirals. I don't know why, they just feel so cheap to me. Again it reminds me of Disney Princess toy products or something? They look like they're made out of plastic. The throne design is also very plain and unoriginal, and the cushions looks kind of off to me? They look flat and uncomfortable to sit against. Kind of sucks but whatever. 3/10
Illumination Mario Movie
Okay so it's clear to me they based this throne room design off of the one of from Super Mario Odyssey, which is like, fine I guess. The mosaic is nice, that's the best compliment I can give it.
I really do not like the throne design and the ornamental lights in this one though. Last year I was doing an art project where I had to draw and paint Santa Claus. When it came time to draw the background and the chair he was sitting on in the piece, I went to Pinterest and kept looking up "Santa's Throne" "Christmas Interior Design" "Fancy Furniture Design" "Red Fancy Chair" to find references for furniture and lighting and all that. And by then Pinterest had already become a waste land of AI slop. If you try to look up anything on pinterest for art reference, or any reference at all, you just get AI generated garbage now. And this applies even more so furniture design. I don't know who's pumping out all this AI interior design slop, but it's everywhere on Pinterest, and a lot of it looks very similar. At least it does if you look up key terms "elegant" and "fancy." I'm sure there's multiple interior design theories on what looks fancy and elegant, but the AI interior design slop machine seems to think there's only one option. And the lighting fixtures and throne design in this image reminds me of that. Of AI generated interior design slop. The same golden light fixtures with gems dangling off them, the same cushioned seating with curved golden trims, everything curving and melting into one another.
I'm not saying the background designers of the Mario Movie were inspired by AI generated images, more so they were probably inspired by the same stock images the AI was. And for that I suppose my view of this type of interior design has sadly been poisoned. Wish I had never worked on stupid Santa Clause piece. Maybe then I would've liked this version of Peach's Throne Room a little more. 3/10
#smb#princess peach#peach's throne room#this is a post i wrote last year because I was working on an art project where I had to draw Peach's throne room#and then i just forgot this post and it's been sitting in my draft for forever#so i guess i'll just post this now before i forget about it again.#hope y'all enjoy it my thoughts on this extremely specific topic

i’ve been eating up the DP/W brain rot like slop, but your critiques are making me think too much about it and now i realize it’s. it’s not that good 😭 i feel like a toddler being spoon fed by marvel and disney. i’m still gonna like and reblog the homo fanart and such, but damn.
do you think there’s any way for marvel comics to be made into movies well?? i feel like everything is just run by the same people
i feel a little bit like those stories where like, everyone gets like a mind spell on them or like, a love potion or such, and i'm here (immune) to that love potion so it's up to me to shake everyone out of the spell. thank you @makehimwhimper... i love the url, by the way.
marvel comics have been made into movies well! i mean, they won't be anymore, if disney continues to swallow everything up, but - once upon a time, they could be done well! i do think logan is just - straight up a good movie. okay, it's not fun. but it's a good movie. and i think the first deadpool movie - though not perfect, and not any sort of milestone of cinema - has all kinds of charm and a respect for the source material.
i think the best we'll be getting in the way of marvel adaptations is probably whatever sony's doing with spider-verse - but i think a big thing about what makes those work for me is all the new things they did with it - fact is, i think audiences actually DO want to see something new. and i don't know if faithful 1:1 adaptations of comics is necessarily going to work. but just - there's a curse in marvel that i can just smell right now, it reeks - it's the smell of the people working at marvel just not respecting their audience at all. and i think it's a disney problem, really. where disney is in this stage where they'll avoid creating anything new or innovative and depend solely on you recognising IP (but ideally, only recognising it at face-value, so you're not critical when they inevitably get it wrong) - because recognition is just what is selling right now. and it works on 100 different levels - because even if you hate the new deadpool and wolverine movie, you're nostalgic for the better x-men movies. now streaming on disney+. disney has your wallet regardless of if their new movie is good or not. you didn't like the new star wars stuff? you're in luck. the original star wars. now streaming on disney+. they're remaking lilo and stitch. you think it's a stupid idea. the original is so perfect. come to think of it i should rewatch lilo and stitch on disney+. i'll buy some merchandise. so even if you're upset with disney, you're running back to disney's open arms. there's no escape.
it's kind of disney's business model now - that actually works in their favour - to give you a bad movie that reminds you of better movies. because they still own the better movies. they still own the merchandising rights. you don't like the new spider-man? here. the better, older spider-men are here to save the day. but we still own the merchandising rights. anything with that guy's face on it. that's money in our wallet.
disney's found an infinite money loophole. why would they expend effort making a good movie or take risks when a bad movie that references better movies generates so much more income?
#sci speaks#so. no. you won't be getting any good marvel movies. not as long as marvel's slop is still breaking box office records.

Btw, since you were asking for songs from Epic the Musical that make us think of Killer, here's a few that work for me:
We'll be fine -> This one always makes me think about Color and Killer. Specifically if this is not the first Killer.
Open Arms -> This one is also so incredibly Color and Killer coded. I'd say almost more than the last one. And we need a few songs for them that aren't romantic but just positive friendship vibes, so here you go.
Suffering and Different Beast -> These two come as a pair and they're just very Killer coded. Just the cleverness, the manipulation in Suffering, the brutality in Different Beast. That's my man
Just a Man -> (cw for implied child death) This one has much more of a Stage 1 Killer vibes. Having to wrestle with the guilt, but still going ahead with the violence.
Ruthlessness -> This one to me is another early Killer and Something New Player, or Something New Chara. Yeah I genuinely do associate all songs where someone gets beat up with that...
Also can't leave out Thunder Bringer -> This one to me mostly feels like Nightmare and Killer, but that's because I saw an animatic that was about that. It definitely can also work with Chara and Killer. Or even the Player and Killer.
Anyway, these are the ones I could think of. The others don't really have the right vibes to me. Though I feel like these may have been too many already, but oh well!
Ahh thank you for this 🙏. I actually started listening to the musical a bit ago, took a break around scylla-mutiny, i think? I also kept getting stuck on and replaying done for and ruthlessness.
i also think ruthlessness would definitely fit chara and killer as opposed to player and killer, ultimately because i think the original something new player is quite content with their creation and is mostly just a detached, curious observer who shows their love for k1ll_sans in rather..cruel ways, i suppose. ultimately killer is something new and that’s what they wanted.
i feel ruthlessness would fit moreso with chara, since they are shaping him and would have an emotional stake in this if they are attempting to remake killer as a better, stronger flowey/asriel. they’d despise any sign of mercy or hesitation from killer—and they’d drive home the message that mercy only brings pain and misfortune. (you are NOT gonna catch killer forgetting to double tap his kills! 🙏 🗣️)
i wonder though. which stage would he likely be in during this scenario, stage 1 or 2? i could see both for various reasons. especially given the angry revenge tinge of the song, if Chara views stage 1 as sans getting in theirs and killers way. because their killer would never be so weak as to hesitate, or show mercy.

Got a shameful confession to make.
I deleted SH2 from my PS5 in a moment of frustration. Surprised even myself, as a fool who loves ultra hard permadeath. But I was twice a fool, you see, I forgot that I only like the combat to be harder when I like the combat. I really could've started out on normal and fixed it before plunging in in all my hubris. But that's only a part of the problem.
I hated fighting in this game from the start. The enemies felt like bosses on their, where they felt like they needed to flesh each and every one of them out but didn't think about how everything else functions in tandem. How survival horror tends to encourage you to run and makes it novel when you're forced to fight something. When you choose to see if you can make it after killing all the enemies in an area and being rewarded with more opportunities to explore unimpeded. SO WHAT IS THIS!
Why do so many enemies launch themselves at you, take these strange unnatural strides to close the difference, and do weird lil combo attacks? While it was just little annoying for most of the game, I think it got frustrating towards the end in the labyrinth. Namely, the mandarins.
Okay, I get it. The mandarins in the OG were kinda forgettable. It was a rare sight for them to even flick their tongues and they just kinda added noises to make you more uneasy. That does not excuse whatever foul evil their roar is in the remake. I don't know what sicko thought it's funny to disable you during combat. It isn't always this bad, though. And I'm gonna surprise myself further: I'm gonna make a positive comparison to RE6.
There is a screamer (or shrieker or yeller or whatever) enemy that stuns you temporarily, but with two players, one of you can divvy up the load, kill the hoarde of zombies. Then the other can focus entirely on the screamer. The screamer is also an above-ground enemy that despite its running around is still easy to see and kill. My friend and I still fussed about it; however, we mostly found it funny.
The new mandarin, though, just keeps spamming roar. And I feel like this would be better if there was one per area, but there tends to be multiple. And it's so LOUD. I turned my controller all the way down, tampered with different audio settings, yet that thing is absolutely shooting a shorty directly into my ear canal every two seconds.
It's under you too, so the best bet tends to be smashing it until it falls. But then there's two of them, and with how fast things tend to move in this game, it's difficult to divide and conquer. In the rotten labyrinth, I was the MOUSE.
This is another thing that's a problem for me, and might not be for most other people. Migraines and vertigo be tearing me up. And that roar attack was absolutely not helping. Who am I fighting? The Warden?
I love the mannequins, but what is with this remake and making everything a spider? It's more funny than irritating.
Also, why can't I take health items from the main menu? Maybe it's different on lower difficulties but if not...you are not RE7 baby. You will never be RE7 despite putting bugs on everything.
I would say that I enjoy most of the remake bosses. Pyramid Head's first fight was real good. Abstract Daddy wasn't bad at all. The Flesh Lips, though...
When it dropped down and started crawling, it was comical. I remember going, "I think we lost the plot." The original ones were pretty freaky, what with them sliding around like they were on some rails. But it falling down and turning into a spider was so in your face. I hate to sound like an insane homophobe who goes, "WHERE'S THE SUBTLETY!" when a gay couple is just existing, but "WHERE'S THE SUBTLETY!"
Something similar happened with all the bugs in the labyrinth. The sheer amount of them was also incredibly funny. Are you afraid of bugs, little man? There will be so many bugs. Then you will be so many afraid.
Which brings me to my next point (that flowers out into fifty other points). Whenever they have something good, they seem to want to do a lot of it. Like everyone knows about the holes. It's literally Silent Hole 2.
But James hesitancy gets on my nerves after the first time. I think they were trying to make him seem really normal. Maybe for new players who don't know the twist. Because how could this NORMAL GUY kill his wife? He's so NORMAL! He is afraid of jumping down the hole. He is afraid of reaching in the hole. He is wearing a plain jacket..he is very obviously sad at this sad situation. He is so expressive instead of being flat.
JUST JUMP IN DA HOLE LIL BRO
You're supposed to be scared the first time. Like reaching in the hole, you don't know what's in there. It's gross hole. So gross. And James apparently doesn't like playing with slime; therefore, he's a little scared and retracts before going in again. Or he tries to see the bottom and briefly considers if he's really gonna do it. Then he does it, and it's over. And he's fallen so far down that he just does not care anymore.
So have your little scene of him being scared at first. Then don't make too much of a fuss every other time, because then you're just wasting time. Especially when you don't subvert it.
And boy, does this game waste time. The OG had flash in the pan animations. But a lot of the new cutscenes/action animations are a slog that don't add anything.
There's so much padding in-between I feel like if I hadn't played it before, I would've forgotten the entire story.
Why in the world does the labyrinth need many floors? I'm on the desolate one but I felt tired of it. I took a break from God of War Ragnarök to play this and now I'm that person who cheats on their partner then complains that their mistress/mantress isn't good to them.
Originally, I related to SH2 because of the great depiction of Major Depressive Disorder. Now, I relate to SH2 by it making me relive having fight in me to just saying, "Man, I make it through what I'm in right now? Who cares about the future."
They should replace those callbacks shots with the stupid EEEUUU sound with James commenting on everything too. I mean, I'll begrudgingly accept the over the shoulder camera rather than fixed despite the glitching/issues I faced when trying to pick up items. But I feel like James having something to say was nice as it added something to see his thoughts. Not to mention having nonspoken lines vs spoken lines was one of the things that stood out to me in the OG. It made sense for commenting on items, but sometimes James would silently observe things (like Laura passing by the hospital), and it was creepy when he said nothing. Now he talks too much, yet somehow doesn't say enough.
For the most part, I would say that I don't need everything from the OG to be in the remake. But I noticed that Eddie's character has been stripped down. I'm yet to fight him. I didn't see any football posters in his vomit room or other things that are indicative of his personal hell. As much as I'd love to hear, "I HATE bowling," that doesn't feel important to Maria's character. But what got Eddie in this mess IS important to his character, and if we want us to consider this as something that can stand on its own, I feel like I'd view him as a lacking character.
Also I do not like James new face when it makes all those...expression. I gagged at the part where Pyramid Head knocks you off the hospital roof. His frowns were like those 200% face rigs people mod RE2RE with. Scariest part of the remake hands down.
All in all?
Probably a 5.5/10. It would've been a 6.5/10 but then they made me put the plank away. :(
One whole plank point off.
As I haven't beat it yet though? That's a real shaky rating. After I beat it and replay it on different difficulties, I might change my mind. First impressions are overrated anyway lol

Ranma Remake
So far I have just one real gripe with the two episodes of the new Ranma 1/2 show I've seen: Akane's fight scenes were just plain better in the original.
Admittedly, the school fight scene from the original show is a fucking masterclass
It was hard to imagine anything topping it. But I'm sad the new fight choreographers couldn't keep up.
Likewise, the original dojo scene is so good, showing the frustrating inability to hit Ranma from an Akane's-eye view to an outstanding score played on violin. The new one is good in a different way, but I do find Ranma's Ninja Vanish insufficiently telegraphed - It felt like it needed more afterimage? Or less? Something felt off about it, and I preferred when we could kind of see Ranma getting out of the way outrageously fast, rather than having her teleport. I think I'd have been more okay with the "teleport" if it'd been from Akane's perspective - We've seen that kind of thing before, for instance when Ichigo first uses his Bankai in Bleach. If it's from the perspective of the person whose eyes can't keep up with the movement, we're not being told this person can teleport. We're being told the POV character lost track of them because they were so fast, which is what we're going for.
There were little moments I missed - Soun's "tracing an hourglass shape with his hands" moment after hugging Ranma for the first time, the delivery-echo of Ranma each time saying, "I'm Ranma Saotome...Sorry about this," and the dub delivery of, "Dad, you're gonna scare 'em spitless!" The speed with which Akane picks up the whole-ass table to use it as a weapon.
But those I don't consider failures. The new adaptation has artistic differences; It's not just a fresh coat of paint on the older show, but a new attempt to adapt the comic. And it's got some really excellent moments. The animation of Ranma when she's just received Kuno's proposal, as rose petals float around her and she turns to dust and blows away in the wind, is top-notch. The look on Tendo's face when he realizes Ranma's female more than makes up for the missing "hourglass trace." I love the bits of floating sound-effect text. Those were animated with love and care.
Also, both Ranma and Akane are cuter in this one. You can more easily believe that they'd fall for each other, get pissed off and swear off the other...and then kinda fall for them again, because this show does a better job than the original at selling each of them as attractive - in form, and in personality, and in...demeanor? There's more humanity in Akane's reaction to losing to Ranma in the dojo, and in Ranma's silent response to that reaction. They both have this layer of emotional vulnerability that the show (and even the comic, usually) didn't make time for, and I am here for it.
In fact they made Ranma so cute that it feels weirder here than in the original show that Nabiki immediately has no interest in him. Kasumi made it very clear that she was out of the running because of her disinterest in anyone younger than herself. But Nabiki was merely hoping this unknown guy would be cute, and then he was pretty fuckin' cute. Maybe she didn't want to mess with the curse business, or he didn't fit her vibe, or maybe she genuinely thought he'd be a good fit for Akane (though that ruins the joke of the two older sisters foisting Ranma off on her).
Honestly what I really want is for the new series to have four seasons. That should give about enough time for all 48 original graphic novels, with no dumb filler. Maybe drop it to three seasons and have a "just the good bits" like the Princess Bride film. Against the first two episodes of the original show, the new series barely treads water in spite of its dramatically improved budget and animation techniques. But that was a really high bar, and on the whole I think the new series did successfully tread water and not drown. I want to see the remake tackle things the old show did horribly, and get to see those scenes made competently.
Show me a well-animated cat fist vs shark fist, and I'll be a happy camper.

My Love Mix-Up - Episode 1
Before anything else. To say I was skeptical would be an understatement. I am a massive fan of the japanese version. I have also read the manga. Both Aoki and Ida are on my top favourite ql characters list. And I have a weird a relationship with remakes of all kinds. I question the need for them a lot. I get too attached to the original work and have trouble separating that. This is not a ql exclusive thing btw and I know it's a me problem.
Just a couple of things that I've been thinking about.
Both @lurkingshan here and @bengiyo here have written already that the main roles seem to be playing against the actors strengths and I completely agree. I don't think Fourth excels at the physical comedy bits that are a big part of the character imo. I think Gemini might've done better here. Perhaps even better - @happypotato48 made a great observation here about how Aungpao would be such a good choice for this. I agree.
Gemini's not doing necessarily a bad job at playing Ida Kongthap although he's leaning too much into the confused look and I'm not a fan. That first reaction to the eraser read more aggressive than confused which I thought was weird but I guess he made up for that by looking confused the rest of the episode.
Also about the cat. I love cats. So I'm not at all bothered that Kongthap has a cat instead of a dog Mametaru, like it's about the sponsors I get it. But I wonder if they chose a white cat to match the one that can be seen lounging outside of school in Kieta Hatsukoi.
Cause if that is the case, it's great.
Moving on. The rhythm of this episode felt off to me though. Considering that they covered as much ground as the first episode of the JP version and still they added the sports, cat bits and the dinner date, it all felt a bit really rushed to me. Like they added stuff but at the same time it's like they skipped steps. atm can't really find a better way to explain it.
I like Matmi a lot. And I like her and Fourth together. I think that friendship could be well done here.
I'm not really sure about the dynamic between Atom and the bff, like I'm not hating it but also it seems forced somehow. I'm not sold on their particular chemistry yet.
There are a couple more things but it's the first episode and let's see if they improve on some of the editing choices.
Overall, this is better than the trailer advertised (which is not saying much because that trailer was a mess) and I'm gonna stick with it for now. I'm curious how much of the manga they will cover and after CM did some wonderful choices with adapting a japanese story with thai elements, I wonder how they will do this one. I wonder if the trip to the mountains will be the beach episode in this version.

STOP STEALING OTHER PEOPLE'S WORKS YOU COWARDS (and other disorganized ramblings)
Yeah, I'm starting this off aggressively, big whoop.
Hi.
The point is right there in the title. Yeah, I'm looking you in the eyes and telling you right the hell now, I want you, yes you, the one with the massive galaxy brain who thinks that you can make a better Dreamtale or Underswap, or whatever the fuck, to listen to me. Walk with me to this pier please. This fandom has a harassment problem, everyone and their grandmother's crusty white little dog knows that, but there is also a massive theft problem as well and half the time I see it's born out of hatred for creators dubbed "bad" for whatever reason. (I am not debating whether these reasons are justified or not, I know it varies on a case-by-case basis)
"But Ouija, why shouldn't I harrass that person and just credit the AU to the fandom?"
Because it's a genuinely shitty thing to do. It's literal theft. Unless the creator blatantly says their creation belongs to someone else now, what you're doing is theft and there is no good defense for that. Yes, even if the creator is an asshole. Yes, even if the creator isn't active in the fandom anymore. Plus, if you sell the impression that it is OKAY in this fandom to take things that aren't yours, things you DID NOT CREATE, you are going to teach others that that behavior is perfectly acceptable, and along the way, discourage other creators from sharing their work. You will actively participate in what makes this fandom look so monstrous to outside audiences. Congratulations, you have become the asshat you didn't have the awareness or foresight to think you would become. I hope you have enough sense to not want that outcome.
Stop that. Do something else, you have plenty of options here. Creating your own shit is the one I highly recommend.
Sometimes the best things are written out of spite and instead of pouring your energy into harassing some random middleschooler for drawing Rose Quartz just a little too thin for your liking -- fuck you by the way -- do better.
Let me give you an example.
I hate the fandom's spin-offs of Dreamtale and there are very few exceptions to this statement.
I said it.
I fucking hate them. Not gonna specify which ones, just know I absolutely despise most of them. I find that next to none of them have any real passion or love put into them, no effort or respect to the source material whatsoever. The vast majority of them were created to specifically target Joku, and there was no genuine drive in that project outside of that one thing, which is malicious intent. Congratulations, you have submitted yourself to uhealthily parasocial behavior. This is unfortunately a theme I see in quite a few fandom remakes of other AUs as well. You don't like the creator, therefore, you assume you can do "better" despite knowing jack shit about what they actually created. (I am not defending Joku by the way. I'm saying this behavior reflects badly on whoever does it and has done it within the past eight years.)
They're boring, and if not boring, absolutely horrific. A lot of the time, they're used to romanticize shit like incest, abuse, and other inherently harmful things that should NEVER be presented in a favorable light. This is NOT me saying it's a bad thing to want to make your own versions of AUs and put your own spins on them, that is not what I am saying at all, and I literally did the same fucking thing several times over. Just bear with me here, I am begging you.
I made my own variation of Dreamtale using a few concepts I liked and ran in the complete opposite directions of both the original version -- which is actually fascinating when I learned about it thanks to Sarco -- and the fandom's trashy as hell boring as shit versions of it that makes watching paint dry seem like a more entertaining spectacle. I did this not out of hate for Joku, someone I don't fucking know (nor should I personally care about), but out of fascination for the Dreamtales I did see and picked and chose what ideas I liked, then added a lot more ideas from other inspirations. This is not a new concept, just about everyone does this.
What I am saying is that instead of talking shit with no supporting evidence and doing your best to humiliate someone you don't like on the internet (which in this fandom are people you don't even FUCKING KNOW, nor have 90% of you been present for the actual issues in action, if there were any), apply that energy to your own projects. That is arguably the more productive and enjoyable thing to do.
Hell, Palworld was made to spite Nintendo for being boring pieces of corporate shit, and that piece of work turned out to be pretty fucking good. (Note that spite in this context is used as a creative drive, not malice)
American McGee's Alice was made using the concept of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland out of literal LOVE for the original story.
Ever After High was made out of the ORIGINAL FAIRY TALE STORIES that Disney twisted into being more kid friendly to various successful extents.
A lot of the AUs Sarco and I tore apart and rebuilt take small aspects from the originals and tweak them just enough that it makes a wave of difference, and we later expanded them to have MASSIVE differences. This isn't to flex or put others down. I am just sick and tired of seeing a bunch of people online (mostly people who left this fandom) saying "there's nothing good in the fandom anymore" and it makes me want to grab my giant ass Edgar Allen Poe collection and beat them over the head with it. ...Figuratively, I stress that part. I don't wanna go to jail. I'm frustrated, I know that's obvious. What I really want to do is encourage more creativity than the constant rehashing of the same shit repeatedly, and perhaps make it abundantly clear that shitty behavior is not something that should drive ANY community. I mean I'm not the boss of you, by all means create whatever you want, it would just be nice to see more variety than I do today, y'know? Give me more weird shit like Gastale and GZtale did, something that makes it stand out and has room for so much more character exploration and fascinating concepts. Hell, I would LOVE to see more OCs too! There should always be room for more of those. But perhaps you're already doing all that, and I just haven't seen it yet. I'm still re-learning how to navigate this fandom and all it has to offer, after several years of inactivity as a mere observer, and now as a creator.
If you want me to expand on all of this and also help with giving you all some concepts and even an example just ask. I'll happily type a mountain for you to help you all with expanding your creativity. -- Ouija

I enjoyed all the crow movies and the comic book no matter how terrible, I believe that with all the people having given a sort of smear campaign to the new crow just because they think it's a remake of the 1994 one, which like you said it is not, is gonna be the reason we won't see anything new with crow for the next possible 18-30 years, and why do I say those years?
It's because it's been 18 years since the crow wicked prayer and 30 years since what happened to brandon lee and I'm sorry, I loved brandon Lee's performance and am sure he could have moved on to be a great actor, but imo people need to get over it, like I said it happened 30 YEARS ago! don't get over his death fine, it's still a tragic thing that happened, but get over the fucking fact atleast one of these days someone else was gonna make a story based on Eric and Shelley like in the 2024 film, no one owns the rights to making crow media and they're all acting like we should never again be graced with the story in the comic into film adaptation.
I'm sure I could have written this in a more better way but I'm on a time crunch.
💀💀💀 screaming
On one hand I get why people hold Brandon Lee’s Eric close to their heart. He literally died on set, in character while shooting a scene. That’s fucked up beyond measure. And I definitely think it was good that the immediate sequels didn’t touch the Eric and Shelly storyline because of how recent the tragedy was. City of Angels, Salvation, and Wicked Prayer being original characters was a good way of continuing to explore the world beyond Eric.
But like you said, it’s been 30 years since the 1994 version. I’d say it’s been more than enough time for the grieving process. And let’s be real, 95% of the people crying about “Brandon’s legacy” only knew the man from behind a screen. The only legacy he'd likely care about are the loved ones he left behind.
It just kinda baffles me bc do people actually think he’d WANT Eric’s story locked and caged up forever? Do they truly think he’d be furious about creatives 30 years in the future seeing the story of Eric, connecting & falling in love with it, so much so that they’re inspired to re-share it with modern audiences? Do they really think that would make him mad?
Regardless if you like the movie or not, I just find it disturbing how many people are using his passing as a fake shield for their own superiority complex. No, Brandon would not be “rolling in his grave” because of this movie. No, it doesn’t tarnish or affect his “legacy” in any way.
It’s not even trying to adapt the 1994 version at all! The ONLY people that keep making it all about the 1994 version and trying to connect Brandon and Bill’s Erics are the ones complaining about it. They’re literally doing it to themselves.
I promise you the ones "killing the franchise" are not the creatives & producers making new content for it, it's the fans that want the franchise to stay in 1994 and not ever move past it.
#the crow 2024#the crow#asks#anon#the most ironic part about all this is that james o'barr is FINE with re-imaginings#but im gonna make that a separate post on its own

final fantasy 7
spoilers for everything idk (ff7, remake&dlc, crisis core but only till like chapter four because thats how far i made it)
bro ive been tweaking out for like three months now. i bought the ff7 remake bc it was 50% off a few months ago and I was like I'm never gonna find a deal like this ever again (only for it to go on 50% again lmfao) but ok whatever it was literally 35 for the game and the dlc which is one million times cheaper than what splatoon 2 and octo expansion were and its ok because i can never own it physical anyways but bro I didn't even want to buy this game in the first place i was gonna buy ffxv cause i saw a clip of notcis or whatever that guys name is putting his lettuce on a nother guy's plate and i was like "wtf is final fantasy even about" SPOILER ALERT: TERRORISM like ????
i feel like i can never every play another game after finishing the remake and the intermission i bought crisis core reunion and theres literally LESS fighting in that game so far but it was also cheaper and i got it physical (after scouring ebay for two months to find a us edition because i dont want to even risk seeing things spelled in the british way because last time when that happened when I played great ace attorney 1&2 i couldn't stop spelling things in british every time i'd write an essay and then i couldnt tell what was wrong "its just an extra letter" no bro its messing up my diction) but anyways please just let me beat things up with a sword i wish people still used swords to fight then the fights would be more fair and the world would be a better place. but man sephiroth is lowkey a nice guy and the crashout was 100% valid not the killing people part but i would also crash out if i found out my mom was actually some 2000 year thingy they found in the ground. today i saw some snowflakes fall (they were the big ones) and freaked out for a second because i thought they were white feathers (I NEED TO GO OUTSIDE)
i also "finished" (AKA gave up right before the final boss) the original ff7 because i didnt want to deal with spoilers cause the main plot points should be the same anyways but i don't have enough patience to play retro games (the last one i finished was kirby super star three years ago) and they are like ten times harder than modern games too like i think i only got 10 game overs max in the remake but like one hundred million in the original and i was like at this point i dont even care anymore like we just need to beat sephiroth right? speaking of i really did think we just had to beat sephiroth and that he was just evil for the love of the game because all i knew was from that smash bros trailer but really everything is hojos and lowkey lucrecia's fault bc theyre bums like are you jealous of vincent or something how do you get a girl who's literally just broken up with this guy pregnant like no time bro literal bum activity im glad vincent was able to beat up hojo at the end. he was also my strongest party member (and had the hardest spell post out of all of them).
i was lowkey tweaking when i saw genesis cause i thought something seemed awfully familiar lo and behold hes just evil gackt. i saw a picture of some genshin character's sword and i was like holy sigma is that genesis rhaspodos but nope it was some genshin twink this is off topic but i HATE how like half of the characters in genshin look like children/teenagers and the other half are either whitewashed (brighter than printer paper) or have the most awful color scheme like unpleasant gradient just showed up to your door. i kept thinking angeal was named angelo because ive only ever met people named angelo and not angeal but so far his story seems too similar to sonons. zack = onika angeal = burgers OH his name is angeal like angel LMFAo
I barely edit my tumblr posts for coherence sorry if youre not one of my like 4 followers but anyways episode intermission gave me a genuine crash out. I was like "who is yuffie" but then i found out. yuffie is my goat. i hate fort condor and i still hate fort condor but i didnt know there was a literal fort with a condor on it. i was out of it bro i have nobody here that may hear this and i will be ashamed i genuinely couldnt pay attention to the game cuz of sonon hes so fine bro too bad he DIED bro i even felt bad for nero cause they forcefully made him shut up with that muzzle thing but as per usual he was a bum but theres no second part to the dlc (yet) 40 dollar 32 gb ram stick please find me (my computer will blow up) before rebirth comes out (my computer will blow up regardless) like watch the requirements be some esoteric classified government only processor like the ryzen 56 or intel i5412 like u gotta play it on one of those government super computers so the game doesnt lag the minute you start walking.
ok im done ive exhausted myself thank u for coming to my ted talk see u later my little minions

Silver Talks AniManga (06/07/25)
Every season I'm like "Hey maybe this time I won't watch so many shows" and every season I'm looking at the schedule before it starts and go "This is basically the same amount of shows as last time!!" and here we are once again. Things should be chill for a while tho since there's nothing ending or starting for some time
Green - New series/New to me Blue - Finale/Completed
Anime
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Ep13 (Finale)
This was pretty good. I had only heard good things about the manga, so I went in expecting it to bed good, but it turned out even better than expected. I think that if I read the manga too I would've liked it even more, but my score isn't bad by any means My favourite part was the comic style sound effects that added a lot of personality to the show. Tho, the general art and animation were pretty good as well. Also, despite being a spinoff of a mega hit series, they managed to make it feel like it's own thing and stand on it's own merits, even with all the cameos from pro heroes. The cast is also very fun and likeable making them good protags to follow around and root for. To no one's suprise my favourite is Pop, she's just way too cute I was hoping that they would be adapting the whole thing and they already announced a S2 for 2026 so there's some hope that that'll be the case but only time will tell
Jigoku Sensei Nube Ep1-2
To me Nube is one of those classic Jump series that everyone obviously knows, but I know this is just a XKDC moment and that if you asked the average person they'd say they've never heard of it. I've known about it for many years but I hadn't considered going back to read or watch the old anime cause there's simply not enough time, even more with all the ongoing stuff I still gotta get to. When I saw that they announced a remake for the Nube anime, I took it as the perfect chance to finally experience it since I could watch it weekly instead of having to plow through hundreds of chaps/eps I think they did a great job with it, the first two eps were pretty good. It's always weird when old series like this get remade and the characters are using modern tech that wouldn't exist back then, tho it's also funny. The character designer did a great job modernizing the designs while keeping the spirit of the old school style too. I wish we could've gotten some sakuga, but the animation wasn't bad so I can't really complain. I'll be looking forward to watching this. We already know it's gonna be two split cours. Apparently they skipped a lot in these 2 eps and only covered a few plot important chapters, so there's a possibility that they'll do that for the rest of the series so that they can cover the "whole series", but only time will tell
Onmyou Kaiten Re:Birth Ep1
That was an alright first ep. If I had to describe this show it'd be a fusion of Re0, Kaiju 8 and Gatchaman Crowds. The MC gets somehow transported to another world where mechs (gatchman) fight demons from another dimension. Stuff happens and he fights one of those monsters to protect MC girl and ends up transforming into one of the monsters himself (kaiju 8). However, in the end, both him and the girl get killed but he ends up waking up and both of them are still alive (re0). It's a very strange combination of trope but we'll see how it goes I don't even remember why I decided to check out this show, other than it being a DaviPro original but I trust them to at least make it somewhat entertaining
Dandadan S2 Ep1
Honestly there's not much to say about this since we just had S1 not that long ago. This was a very good first ep to come back to. I will say tho, they did a really good job increasing the Kito's creepiness levels with the directing and voices. We're getting the Evil Eye next ep and there seem to be some juicy scenes from the next ep preview. Later in the season we're also getting the Okarun musical training and Momo's maid arc so that'll be fun. Kinta is also in the OP which means we'll get the kaiju arc too. I assume the season will end there so the next one can start with Vamola's arc but we'll see
Bad Girl Ep1
I decided to watch this show instantly after watching it's first PV months ago, cause it looked great and later found out that it was a Kirara series. Went in with high expectations because of that and not only did they not disappoint, it was even better than I expected. The yuri levels are off the charts, even more than the usual Kirara stuff. There's still one chara to be introduced so I wonder if this'll turn out to be a yuri square situation I'll be looking forward to having this as my saturday CGDCT show in place of mono and FFS
Ruri Rocks Ep1
Well well well, that was VERY good, way better than I ever expected. I only decided to check out this show cause Mega mentioned it at the end of the last season when we were talking about what we were gonna watch now. I was just gonna watch the first few eps to decide cause there's already a lot of shows on sunday + jump manga. But this completely blew my proverbial socks off. It looks stunning and the extra frames make the animation stand out a lot. As soon as the episode started and I saw the gyaru friend I was like "This looks a lot like Onimai lol" and then looked it up and saw that it's the same studio and director which explains a lot I don't even need to watch more eps to decide, I'm for sure sticking with this one. You can't go wrong with a CGDCT show with this amount of love and effort put into it
Cultural Exchange With a Game Centre Girl Ep1
That was a very cute first episode. If anything I have to commend them for having the balls of having a character speak exclusively in english the whole time. Of course they went with Sally Amaki which is the first person I'd think of for a role like that anyway. Still not sure so we'll see how the next few eps go, but it's cute enough that I'll prob stick with it in the end
Gachiakuta Ep1
That was a good first ep. I wanted to pick up the manga at the start, but because it's KManga I couldn't. I've always heard great things about it so I went into this with high expectations. I think the girl turning on him in the end was a bit of unnecessarily added edge, but other than that the ep did a good job setting things up. Tho, from the synopsis I thought we were going to get a little further than this. We'll see how the action looks next week cause that'll be a big part in determining how good of an adaptation this is
CITY Ep1
As expected... It's peak. I knew I could trust Kyoani. I personally never watched Nichijou cause it was a bit before I started watching seasonals, but I've seen a billion of the jokes here. When I saw that Kyoani was adapting the author's other work I knew I was in, and seeing the incredible PV they released only elevated my expectations. And they managed to go even above those. The show looks beautiful and the stylization gives it a timeless feel that will never get old. The direction and animation are also great and add a lot of character to the show. I'll very much be looking forward to having this be my last show of the week for the next few months
Witch Watch Ep14
I just wanted to say that I respect the studio a lot for not only dedicating half the episode to the fake in universe anime, but also changing both the OP and ED to be the ones said fake show would have. We got a handful of chapters dedicated to this series over the manga and it took a while until we learned the real significance of it. We don't know if the anime will ever get to that point, but please know that this isn't as random as it may seem and there's a reason behind it
Manga
Ping Pong Peril Ch1
That turned out a lot better than I expected. The paneling is pretty basic but the art is good. The story premise is kinda goofy but it opens the doors for all sorts of wacky "fights". Still, it's just one chapter. One shots can be good but fall apart when they actually get serialized and have to go past the starting premise, so we'll see how the next few chaps of this go
Kill Blue Ch108
I saw this coming because they brought up the drug at the start of the chapter and went out of their way to tell them they could eat "anything on the table", but it's still crazy to see it actually happen. Me and Mega had discussed this very possibility multiple times during the course of the series and had been waiting for it to eventually happen, but I sure didn't expect it to come in the cooldown chap like this. Very very curious to see where Fujimaki is gonna take this from now

This is probably going to be a hot take, but after looking over the Tim Burton adaptations of Alice and Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, I don't think they're as bad as I initially thought, and this is coming from someone who has read both books and loves the animated Disney adaptation. They're definitely not my favorite interpretations, but I can see why so many AiW fans like them and why they were a massive success at the box office.
I really like how, unlike Disney's live action movies, this story isn't a remake of the animated film. Instead, it's sequel to the actual books and tries to do something unique, which leads me to the second thing I really admire about it. As much as I enjoy the books that Carroll wrote himself, I adore adaptations that take the stories and deviate from them in some way. If I really wanted to see a one hundred percent accurate, carbon copy film adaptation of the stories, I'd just pick up the books and save my money. It just gets really boring, repetitive, and stifles creativity when all adaptations are expected to be exactly the same and can't do anything different without experiencing backlash. That's why the animated film from 1951 was a "bomb" at the time of release (now it's one of Disney's most popular franchises, which I'm not sure if I should be happy or depressed about that). It wasn't a bad movie. The fans were just unhappy that it wasn't an exact copy of the book, and I'm SO GLAD it wasn't because I think the animated movie is WAY better than the books themselves. I understand that these stories are special to people, but the original isn't gonna go away when a new version comes out. I think we should have more unique adaptations and stories inspired by Carroll's work!
Anyway, I think that's all I have to say for this post. I have a lot of thoughts I've been meaning to share publicly and I'm finally feeling brave enough to put them here. I've met a number of nice fans who are very into AiW or even casually into it and it's great knowing that they have my back and encourage me to share. ^^ Even if you haven't read the books, only enjoy the aesthetic of the world, and don't know every little piece of information on the stories and have your own interpretation on what they mean (I will not humiliate or think less of you if you get a piece of information wrong or have a different opinion from my own), you will always count as a fan of Alice in Wonderland in my eyes and are welcome on my page. I know it will never happen, but gatekeeping and elitism in fandom spaces really needs to just die out at this point.

The original RE3 was short too but they did cut alot of stuff in the remake, like the choices you could make at certain points, Nemmy popping out out of nowhere instead of every single encounter being scripted and lots of locations being removed/altered just to name a few 😭 Aksdissdj I cant blame you, I thought Alice was Jill when the movies first came out! Then the second movie came out and I was like “Wha– But…Jill there…but….Jill….there? What…?” BUT THEY DID CARLOS SO WELL IN THE REMAKE, HE’S SUCH A CUTIEEE. “Now here’s a weird fucking door” WILL NEVER NOT BE FUNNY TO ME. THAT AND JILL’S LINE, “Bitch can’t even swim” Exactlyyy like please, just stand in the corner, we’ve got this man. But oh GOD, dont remind me, Im tearing up just thinking about that scene. The way Ethan says that line just…ooooo it just clutches at your heart and rips it from your chest.
Amsfsdjf thats not fairrrr /j
Apparently so, I think there’s like ten in total? Ajsfisjfi I totally get why. I wonder if alot of people thought that 😭 I adore Cheryl/Heather. She’s so sarcastic and has so much personality. James is a more fascinating character to dissect; Cheryl is more expressive and entertaining to watch (but also has a few heartbreaking scenes I won't mention cause spoilers hehe) …But she does look similar to Rebecca now that you mention it–
Honestly….I feel like your take is actually pretty spot on. Yes, James did something completely unforgivable. It was the ultimate form of betrayal, no one should deny that. But in the same time, humans are complex creatures. (And props to Team Silent for making characters that are so human) James wanted his life back and probably even wanted to be free of the pain that came with watching someone he loved suffer. Maybe he even saw it as a mercy killing. He didn't want her to suffer anymore. Who would want to watch someone they love suffer the way Mary was suffering? But if this was as simple as a murder or a mercy killing, he wouldn’t have been dragged into his own personal hell. He wouldn’t have felt like he needed to be punished. He wouldn’t carry around so much guilt. Because he knows what he did was unforgivable and no punishment will ever be enough to atone for his sins. But James loved Mary, and she loved him too. That is undeniable. Yes, James may have had some impure thoughts about the nurses while Mary was bedridden and yes, he developed a drinking problem to cope with everything. But James wasn’t abusive or a rapist (I remember seeing such videos floating around when the remake was released/I looked to see if some people are still saying so and GOD there are some awful takes out there 😭) But I also saw someone accusing him of being a rapist because Angela isn't comfortable around him?? Like??? Did you just skip over her whole story??? But all that to say, James is an extremely grey character. He’s not good or bad, and I feel like that’s what makes him so human. Because real people aren’t black or white either. They’re not clear cut good or bad; they’re shades of grey. Omg really? I thought it was goofy 😭 But we all know the true ending is the dog ending
Oh, and best wishes for uni!!

uni kills me my god /j
i have seen those rapist accusations and somehow angela was roped into it? like idk i feel like it's kinda disrespectful to her story and trauma. angela was uncomfortable because she's fucking traumatised 😭 i don't doubt that her discomfort around james stem from her distrust towards people in general especially because the one who abused her were people closest to her. she's literally stuck in a town filled with her nightmares.
i think james' character is well-written. it gives room enough for many interpretations of his human. the discussion surrounding his guilt kinda reminds me of a certain character...... 👀
speaking of ending, maria ending was... something💀 james, you're a fuck in that ending LMAO "better do something about that cough" OR WHAT UR GONNA KILL HER OR SUMN LMAO
