Perspective

I'm of the opinion that Keyleth's perspective now in the past 30 years is not one she needs to have in the future, even if Vax still remains the Champion of Ravens, or some other position in the celestial sphere. I think much of her anger and pain could be abated if she changed her perspective. Instead of mourning the life they didn't get, appreciating what they do have.

One thing that is a fact is that Keyleth, assuming she was not killed in some way, is going to live a very very long life. This was always an issue, her friends, and Vax'ildan, would die many centuries before her. Initially it even stood in the way of her relationship with Vax. She'd live without him something like 10 times longer than she'd lived with him even if they both just died of old age.

Yes she nominally accepted that but thinking you've accepted something that is 150 yrs off is not the same as living through it. When Vax died would she really have been so accepting and just moved on? Or would she have mourned him for the many centuries to come? What if she never got over it for her 1600 more years of life? How might that affect her personality, her friendships and leadership?

It's only been 30 years since he, not sure what you'd call it, ascended. That's only a very small percentage of her lifetime, something like 2 percent. It's perfectly normal to still be in the "anger" stage. There is no timeframe on grief.

But what about in 500 years when all of her old friends in Vox Machina are gone, when almost everyone she knew from that time is gone, except maybe a few fellow arch druids?

Those ravens would almost certainly be a comfort to her. Just as he meant them to be now. And if he had suddenly stopped sending them, so she could "move on", who is to say she'd have moved on? Maybe she'd have felt an even worse emptiness, maybe she'd start looking for signs in all the ravens (would people start calling her the "crazy"raven lady?)

The same with Vax himself. No he's not with her physically, most of the time, but if things had gone as she'd imagined, he would have been centuries dead already anyway, and her still with most of her life still ahead of her.

But because he's become Champion of Ravens he's still there in some form and she's still loved and someone still remembers her as Keyleth and not only the powerful nearly godlike herself Voice of the Tempest.

Letting Go

I don't think she has to let go. I don't think he has to let go. Not of each other. They simply have to let go of the old dream and move forward as what they are. I think he's perhaps further along that path than she is, in that he doesn't seem angry, but not completely.

Instead of mourning(or being angry, I think it's ok to feel some sorrow for what might have been) about they didn't get, Keyleth could take comfort in the fact that much like her, he'll still be out there centuries from now, and as the ravens showed, still thinking of her too, instead of long buried and completely unreachable for 90 percent of her life.

500 years from now she'll likely feel that way anyway but I think she can get there now if she tries to change her perspective and takes a long view instead of a short one.

Keyleth even now lives a full life, she has family, she got her mother back, she has friends. She can continue to make more friends, though admittedly it's harder in her leadership position and because of her already mentioned extended lifespan, but not impossible. She by no means has an empty life, even if she didn't have a new romantic partner.

If anything she's in rather a better position in that regard than Vax, who as Champion it appears doesn't really seem to get to form new close relationships. He's got the Matron, fleeting interactions with the dead and getting tough with anyone who tries to mess with the rules of life and death. And loving him, being the one who remembers the man inside the mantle, is such a kindness to him as well.

Mythic Romance

Here's the romantic in me, it's bittersweet yes but it's not bad and it doesn't have to be something Keyleth finds so painful.

There's no reason they can't continue to love each other. They don't have to "move on" from each other. From a certain perspective this actually may be better fit for the lives they lead, for the life she was always meant to lead. She was always meant to have a life apart, not one like most people, and in a way it's fitting that her love would take a different course as well.

When she finally passes on, if she becomes a tree, ravens can sit in her branches. Or if she doesn't go the tree route perhaps the Raven Queen(assuming she's still around) would allow her Champion to finally be at rest himself, for Keyleth to be the final soul he greets in death and they can move into the next chapter together.

It's the stuff of legends really.

I didn't expected a happy ending, but that was bittersweet.

I do have to say, besides Vax getting one night along with the group, it did left me with some questions. Because the whole conversation with the Raven Queen sounded like, maybe Vax can/might serve her in the material plane?

Also, what is going on in Issylra? The angels told them that they needed to regroup, and plan the next stage of the attack, possible on Ruidus? Like, is it prepping in case both Bells Hells and the Mighty Nein fail? Is it related to if/when Predathos awakens? Or is something else going on? Like, maybe Ludinus or someone else attacked Vasselheim while everyone was away? I don't think it was the broadcast of the message from Aeor since I imagine Vox Machina would've gotten it too. Lots of things that might happen.

Anyway, loved this mini arc or whatever we want to call it. Having Vox Machina again was just, the best.

Also, did Lieve'tel went with them to Whitestone? I imagine she did, if only so she could visit Bertrand's grave.

So fellow Callowmoores how we feelin' this morning/evening? Because it's evening right now and I'm still bouncing off the walls in my mind

The one post could not keep me contained! No seriously the amount of tags I put in hit a limit and doesn't show them all

I mean yes we didn't get a kiss (yet) but goddamn we got so much, it has possessed me, deranged me, it's leaking outta my brain I gotta talk about it, so either jump out or buckle up because this overflow is gonna be long

First off I just gotta talk about how so many things almost lined up how I imagined them because it just makes it feel like they looked into my head and thought 'hey that's kinda good'. Like, I wanted Fearne to take the shard at Mori's, it was a safer space for her than the Ziggurat which is tainted by bad memories (this and other campaigns), I just didn't expect it so soon, thought they'd at least have a full rest first. In fact I had a whole scene in my mind where in a desperate gambit Delilah took over Laudna while she slept and just knocked on Ashton's door in a form of dread going 'where's the shard Ashton?'. It's key to this I promise not only because I enjoyed the idea of Ashton not taking any of Delilah's shit (plus for you Imodnas out there the mental scene involves Ashton whispering 'Imogen's in danger' to wake her, they also ask where Paté is because they still have that 'Paté is Delilah' theory) but it also expanded on the possible helplessness Ashton would have being unable to assist Fearne with taking the shard

'You're a child, Ashton. A blunt instrument that charges blindly into harm, would you really risk Fearne's life to earn her forgiveness? You know what it can do, what happens when you can't protect her from it?'

Of course, Ashton would never give Delilah the shard, which would frustrate Delilah since she can't manipulate them, but the comment weighs on Ashton a little. Which is when the whole waking Laudna happens and she leaves, but Fearne is in his room (the Vox Machina bathtub scene being inspiration), having asked to sleep there for comfort and asks them if it worries them. Which is where I often got to use this quote

'I don't believe in fate, but I believe in you'

And it sticks with me because it's super romantic, but also on-brand for Ashton, there were variations like the longer 'things only affect our path if we choose to believe they do; fate is complicated, the gods don't give a fuck, and I don't wanna even think about legacy anymore, I don't believe in them, but I believe in you' but then the next morning comes and Ashton gives her the ring, since I forgot about attunement there were instances where it was a sneaky sleight of hand thing, and Fearne completes the process. Of course, with weeks to go on there were a lot more scenarios like Fearne pickpocketing the Ashton doll to practice talking to and putting it back, Ashton seeking Mori for advice, herbal tea visions where Ashton entered their own mind and encounters the empress while on the outside Delilah possesses Laudna to try and drain the power from them, one where the shard having been reshaped through Ashton is less intense on Fearne for the first 4 rounds (since they blew up on the fifth) because Ashton's essence is containing and dissipating the hostile energy, and one where the group secretly vote against Ashton being there for Fearne taking the shard (Imogen, Laudna, and Chetney 3 to 2 against Orym and FCG) but Fearne as the decider pulls them over because she needs them there, stuff like that I'm sure fanfic writers could consume to their heart's content (and are free to, go nuts). But these scenes stood out because it had elements of stuff that are linked to or actually happened in the episode; Fearne does take the shard, Ashton endorses that Fearne is the only one who can take it, Ashton gives her the ring and Shattered Vigor is apparently a thing where Ashton is practically taking Fearne's pain to protect her, that alone is enough to go insane over.

And can we talk about the ring for a moment, because like THE RING. I'm not talking about generically either I mean that this ring has been significant to the shard saga ever since Ashton claimed it. It was found on the corpse of someone infused into stone, into the earth, right between the whole eidolons stuff where Ashton connected with an Earth elemental and then the Grau Dashari stuff with the crystals they merged with their hammer and then the Bor'dor incident, that could've easily been a titan-based punishment. Also, Ring of Volcanic Flesh, like Ashton's stone arm? And if that wasn't enough, what was the first thing Fearne stole from Ashton when they reunited? The ring, the act that broke down Ashton's walls as they let out a most heartfelt 'I missed you, so much' the ring that Fearne stole right off of Ashton's fingers only for them to willingly put in her hand to protect her, because just as they said at the clock tower, everything they have belongs to her. And while legacy and hubris had a part in the shard incident, part of it was also for Fearne. I don't believe there's any situation where if Fearne said she wanted the shard at the clock tower Ashton would've said no; Ashton knows that Fearne was key to the shard dislodging in the lava, they sensed it was in a way key to both of them, but there was no reality where Ashton was gonna force Fearne to take the shard if she didn't want it. And yes it blew up in their face, much like Fearne they saw an image of themselves they didn't want to be, their soul broke with the realisation that they hurt the one person they never wanted to hurt, but thanks to Percy they also realised that they had to change. It wasn't enough to see everyone else having someone at the reunion and internalizing 'if someone has to not come back it's gotta be me' they had to make steps towards being the person the Hells needs them to be, someone who can come back with them.

Which is where last episode started setting it up, and I didn't speak much about it at the time because other than the pretty plain 'I would've rather died than hurt Fearne' insinuation (which in turn was confessed to save Fearne from falling) there was only crumbs that could be interpreted other ways; for instance Birdie's tale with Athion and Olly being somewhat of a parallel to Tevan and Ashton, the formers wooing Birdie and Fearne with temptations of indulgence while the latters drawing their attention by being subjects of intrigue, defiance and kindness, plus they saved the latters (Birdie literally via escaping the prisons and Fearne emotionally and literally), or before the Orym conversation when Ashton takes 'one last look' Taliesin looks towards Ashley last. But I knew there was poetic significance to Ashton failing the communication trial, Marisha sensed the vibe too, but even though Fearne was nervous about guiding Ashton, the fault fell to poor dice rolls (and Liam not keeping shtum and summoning thunderwasps) and once again Ashton in an attempt to prove themselves falls flat on their ass in front of the person they most want to prove it to. And that did break my heart a little I must admit because as poetic as it was who hasn't been there? Ashton's journey of proving themselves has been laden with failure too; being unable to protect anyone from Otohan led to them almost being TPK'd, being unable to keep the group together at the Malleus Key led to the group being scattered, and then Team Trauma's stuff - Orym was despondent and Laudna's a wreck, got a random 'shepherd's boy', a powerful Cobalt Soul teen prodding about the solstice and all of Deni$e here added as mainly combat support, loners but no leaders, Dawnfather angel thinks them insignificant, dark spirits trying to consume their only leads about the Hishari - and the moment Ashton started to trust Bor'dor after the pipe vision what happens? Betrayal, Hunger of the Shadow and Delilah is let back in, Ashton couldn't even keep Laudna safe from herself, they reunite, try to sort out their shit with their past, discover that they might have a destiny to fulfill and end up being too willing to die in place of others, and unable to protect their new family from themselves, because of these recent failures it was important that Ashton proved themselves in the trust trial.

And thankfully they did, there was no way to prove that anyone was a Doppelganger and yet, Ashton still trusted Fearne; twice saving her from the flora even when told to leave her behind. And they were close to another failure when the branch was snatched - after their attempts to keep it safe by throwing it in the pool alone - but they trusted Chet and Orym (father/son duo) to cover more ground while they helped Fearne. And even when FCG told Ashton 'I think it's Fearne', and when Imogen was untrusting of Fearne, Ashton abandoned their held action to save FCG from the brambles because they knew Fearne could be trusted. They trusted Imogen to connect to Ruidus and as mentioned endorsed Fearne to take the shard.

And sure, in my mental scenarios Ashton gives her the shard, doing the same she did for them, but I did say almost like how I imagined. And Ashton still did everything they could, plus Imogen comforted their visible worry, but once it's complete they're just in awe, and then their own spark awakens through her touch, a touch they were unafraid of even at the threat of newfound fire, and now for the first time ever they feel whole. She saved them, and now they finally feel complete, and now this time Fearne is agape, Fearne is in awe, and everything she had hoped Ashton would gain from taking the shard before has come to fruition through her, and it's just, joy, pure incorruptible joy, a kindred connection that belongs to just them. Plus a big piece of paper for all the new powers they are excited to learn about from each other, with each other, and while Matt can talk about there being risks to them because you gotta balance the combat the narrative significance is still there.

But dammit they need to kiss, I've yelled it enough times in my head; like the lava, the clock tower, before and after Fearne took the shard, the only times they did kiss was before the solstice (the forehead kiss) and the ziggurat and both preceded bad times, they deserve a proper one, not one at risk of being a goodbye, something precious, irreplaceable and theirs to have, to share. And I don't know if they should use the patented 'can I kiss you?' or take a tip from BeauYasha and use 'I wanna kiss you so bad right now' or find something else to make their own but I desire it so much, had it happened this ep I probably would've melted out of my seat. They're awkward and nervous but they gotta take the leap, Ashton needs to realise they're loved and maybe even be told that they deserve it even when they feel they don't, and Fearne has to take a risk too, the shard put doubt to her decisions but that doesn't mean she can run from her strong emotions. It doesn't fix everything of course, but sometimes people heal better together than apart. As a currently vorbed half-elf once said 'drink the courage first'.

Curiosity continues to send me after the ep, and while some people are attempting to blemish or rain on the parade (I mean, I try not to speak ill of other ships in general, but if you're gonna be negative about it you can at least do it in your lane, your tags not ours) I am still just riding the high of the possibilities. True, the unknown can make me nervous, and I will admit the group has to give Ashton and Fearne space (they're just excited, and with the bloody bridge hinting to be a final moon-based battle there is that sense of urgency) Imodna had nudges sure but they have been a bit heavy-handed and kinda chaperoned around them, Fearne and Ashton seldom get time alone, one can hope they can get that time with each other next episode.

Something crazy I realized about Tails in Sonic Adventure 1

I'm replaying SA1 right now (on a Dreamcast emulator, because f*** those buggy-as-heck re-releases, am I right?). I'm jumping from one character to another (while always staying on one savefile) to play through every event of the story in order...

And as far as I saw, Tails is the only playable character who gets one of his upgrades during a dream.

He grabs Froggy (and the red Chaos Emerald with it) at the end of Sand Hill, sees Tikal's hitodama floating around him, the dream/flashback in the Knuckles Clan's ancient walled city starts... and when he wakes up from that dream, he's got the Rhythm Badge on his chest out of nowhere and is suddenly able to lethally slice everything around him non-stop with reckless abandon.

Yep, he straight-up dreamed the Rhythm Badge up and materialized it outside of the dream.

Just consider the in-universe implications:

Sonic: "Hey Tails, that's a cool amulet! Where'd you get it?" Tails: [with Dr Light's English voice from Mega Man 8] "That's a good question."

I'm also trying to think of some other videogame, TV series, movie or comic that had done something like this, but I can't come up with anything. I've seen a few people suggesting a few examples, though: one power-up in a Castlevania game, Psychonauts, The Legend of Vox Machina, the seagull appearing at the end of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (it's implied the seagull is a real-life incarnation of Marin created by the Wind Fish), the Klonoa series' entire universe...

Someone else mentioned the possibility of Tikal granting the badge to Tails through the dream. If that's true, then she's one hell of a powerful spirit. Basically, "Tikal OP, plz nerf".

Another possibility I've considered is that, perhaps, those flashbacks are not dreams and Tikal's spirit has the power to literally send the characters back in time so they can witness what happened to the Knuckles Clan and where Chaos comes from. Super-powerful ghost Tikal headcanons aside, it'd also imply Tails retrieved the Rhythm Badge from its place at the Echidnas' walled city in the past.

Like... He grabbed the badge with his own anthropomorphic fox hands in the past, and then he carried that badge to the present. This would mean that, if either Tails, Sonic or any of the other four playable characters in SA1 hadn't "followed the script", they totally could have changed history at any point around the time when the Knuckles Clan was decimated by Chaos.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings, I guess. SA1 certainly has one bizarre, trippy story when you think about it, especially regarding Tails's story.

5. Do you respond to comments? I try to, but honestly my depresso espresso really makes that difficult for me. It ends up being the absolute last thing I have energy for.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Sooo none of them are finished haha I simply yap too much to do something short/ a one-shot.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? So I guess that depends on if you consider a "complete" ending happy. For ACOSAR, I intend to write out how I want the entirety of the ACOTAR series to end. But with ACOAAS, it's mainly relegated to Az's mating bond, but with political intrigue and a sort of marriage-of-convenience trope. In simplest terms, the ending I have planned for ACOSAR is probably the happiest by default since EVERYTHING gets resolved.

8. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes, but not often. I'm such a slow burn girly that I can't get into writing smut unless characters are sort of "ready" for that in the stage of their relationship. Like I absolutely started some Solriel smut because they're VERY close to approaching a relationship. Azrina on the other hand is...going through it lol.

9. Do you write crossovers? Yes! ACOSAR is a Critical Role/The Legend of Vox Machina crossover.

10. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that anyone's told me!

11. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Omg no but it sounds fun!

12. What is your all-time favorite ship? Ooh. It's Solriel, ngl. They're easily the best, most compatible, dynamic and sympathetic couple I've ever written. And the crazy part is I didn't even write Solara to be with Az. She was my PC in a D&D Campaing that ran for two years, and I only discovered ACOTAR at the tail end of it.

13. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My Naruto fic lol. I wanted to rewrite the series during the pandemic and it was a great idea then, when we all had to stay home.

14. What are your writing strengths? Dialogue, character building, introspection. I can write realistic dialogue like it's nothing, and getting inside a character's head is the most fun for me! I usually approach creating a character with their backstory/psychology prioritized so I can use that to inform their behaviors and then shape their personality, ideals, etc. around that. (i.e., Solara can't stand by and do nothing when she hears children cry, because she was once a child who no one helped when she was crying/sad/afraid.)

15. What are your writing weaknesses?  TALKING HEADS. God, I get very invested in dialogue and internal monologue and emotions that I forget about what the characters are doing physically. Are they still walking? What are their hands doing? Did the person drinking tea behind them at the coffee shop leave or are they still there? If its an ACOTAR fic--what are Azriel's shadows doing from the last time I described them? Did I forget to make them move again??

16. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? So, I technically (only technically) sort of have because I use Elvish language in my fic, but I made up the language and only have a few key phrases. I made it to be inspired by a mix of Spanish and Tagalog.

17. First fandom you wrote for? Ooh either Harry Potter or Naruto, probably, I don't fully remember.

18. Favorite fic you’ve written? AHHHH this is tough! It's so difficult because I love my fics for very different reasons. ACOAAS is very political drama romance and very focused on the mate bond, on the injustices and genocide the Meliae (ashwood nymphs) faced for over several centuries. It's sort of like Bridgerton-level focus on romance and the bond but like with very real political and ethical stakes. ACOSAR is me just finishing out ACOTAR how I want to, so taking up all the unfinished plot points and tying them all together. So we get to go to the Spring Court for a bit and help Tamlin get his shit together, we spend time with Eris and try and help him kill Beron, we learn about Mor, we investigate Koschei, etc.

I think if it's judging it by effort required, then ACOSAR has to be my favorite. I love Solara so much and making her fit into the world and affect things going on while essentially going off of no plot/writing my own entirely from picking up where ACOSF (and now HOFAS) ended.

Nah cause guys, I started watching The Legend of Vox Machina and I'm already obsessed with it. So much so, that I haven't even finished S1 but am planning on writing a fic of Perci 😭. That's how down bad I am for him 😔😭.

Anyways, my point being, I was watching S1 right and u know that evil lady that tortured Perci??? I realized when she first showed up she sounded a bit like Karai from TMNT 2012 and Cheshire from Young Justice. So I tried googling her and found out that Kelly Hu actually voiced all 3!!!! Like what??!! Nah cause I defo heard Karai in that evil ladies voice but then I thought, 'hmmm, it sounds like Cheshire as well with a deep voice' and it ISSSS. Nah cause I love Karai's voice and Chesire's cause whenever they talked, I would feel so relaxed cause their voices r so smooth and nice. Nah but the fact that I figured it out by the voice that they're all played by the same voice actor is CRAZY 🤣. I literally kept thinking about this last night and had to post about it because I was just in shock.

Last book: Still working through The Dome by Stephen King. I started reading this thick ass of a book last year and I'm finally 2/3 of the way finished.

I try (oh my god do I try ♫). Currently there's still a couple in my AO3 inbox I haven't responded to yet because I like to take my time (and also I like having that little number beside my inbox on my page 😭)

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh that's easy. If, a Hogan's Heroes snapshot (<800 words) where I essentially went "hey, what if [character] really had been killed in that scene?" and picture the aftermath.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh that is hard! I have comforting endings, I have peaceful/hopeful endings, I have bittersweet endings with a side of sweet... But just plain happy? I mean, Pas de Deux would end on a thoroughly good and happy note if it weren't for that pesky last sentence ("This summer 1914 is going to be the best summer"). I'd say Perfect Picture has the happiest: it's a (few years into the) future JLU fic set at a Christmas do, PoV Jimmy Olsen, that ends on him taking the titular perfect picture in the immediate wake of a very happy announcement. I love it a lot.

Do you get hate on fics?

No, thank goodness. Something of a miracle in 22+ years of writing online! My beta has, though, because some people are idiots.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do, although it's a recent (ish) development! I've written three kinds of smut: loving and sometimes fumbling between two then three young people who don't a ton of (or any, in some cases) experience, quick and ill-advised between two desperate people convinced they'll die in a few hours, and cosy and warm as a means to (re)connect (two different fandoms) between middle-aged people. Love every one of them.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have! Like the aforementioned TMNT crossover (within the same franchise, bit still, two different shows and fandoms). And, well, it's not exactly crazy, but I wrote a tavern-as-an-afterlife fic in which Sergeants García and Schultz have a little conversation about their respective supposed-to-be enemies. Would that count as "crazy" if they have approximately a century and a few years between their lifetimes?

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't... think so. Can't be sure. Sometimes I post fic here and I've definitely found my Tumblr accounts on those crappy Tumblr mirroring websites, so yeah, probably.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Someone asked me once if I minded them translating one of my Don Camillo fics into Italian, to which I responded with happy flailing and "not at all, go ahead!" But I never heard back from them. OTOH, I have done the translating :D I translated a Mummy fic into French back in the day (2004) with the author's permission, and I wrote L'éléphant de Carter (Hogan's Heroes) in French then translated it into English.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not really. I participated in group projects and big bangs and stuff, but I've written a fic "with four hands".

What's your all-time favorite ship?

It should be an obvious choice, because I have so few I ship actively - you know, not just "sure, I like the idea of them together". For the purposes of the question I will say Pike Trickfoot/Scanlan Shorthalt, from Campaign 1 of Critical Role/The Legend of Vox Machina (it's a slow burn with minimum pining! They both have personal growth! He pursues her but then apologises and asks if they can be friends! Each is the only one who truly sees and perceives the other on that level!). But also I really really love my one-third-canon-character-two-thirds-OCs OT3 set in 1910s Oxford. So... tie? :3

I have one of those eternal WIPs (more of an idea, really) of a Discworld/Quantum Leap crossover where Sam Beckett Leaps into Sam Vimes who's in the middle of an investigation, which would mean that 1) Sam B has to wrap his mind around the existence of magic and dwarves and trolls and Nobby Nobbs while Sam V and Al Calavicci stare at each other down (Spider-men-pointing-meme style in the end) going "if my guy/my people get(s) hurt by your shenanigans then so help me I will go SQUARE" (and quickly enough work together).

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, apparently? I've been told a few times over the years by readers that they could "hear" the characters speak in their heads, which is the greatest compliment 💜 (especially since English is not my first language, so I'm always worried about things not sounding right!)

What are your writing weaknesses?

Actual plots, especially ones with a bit of complexity in them 😅 I'm the first to admit 80% of my fics are one-shot character exploration (with conflict - internal and external - being resolved via dialogue and/or communication). Also finishing things on time, GOD.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Heh. I'm French and when I write for Hogan's Heroes I often write a French character who canonically (though rarely, gotta respect the ratio) says things in French sometimes. Of course I'll include some! But I always make sure 1) to include a translation/explanation in the notes (AO3 is really great for footnotes) and 2) that it doesn't really require a translation to understand the situation/stakes. I tend to go back and forth on the use of italics for foreign language words.

Now, if I don't know the language as well as I do French (and, more importantly, if the PoV character who hears it speaks that language), I just clarify in the "s/he said", like

"You gotta be kidding me," muttered Bob in [insert language here].

Works in English too, of course, especially if you're having a multi-language environment in your fic.

First fandom you wrote for?

I was gonna say "Harry Potter", because that's the first fandom I wrote for (and published) after discovering fanfiction (the first fics I read were for Starsky & Hutch), BUT. I guess I should answer Titanic?? On account of how I kinda wrote a self-insert in high school (when the film came out) in which an imaginary inventor uncle build a time machine and my sister and I did some time tourism (obviously money wasn't an issue), thinking "oh we'll just go home on April 14th". I was a soppy 16 years old otherwise 0% interested in romance, so I had my stand-in recently lost her boyfriend (very tragically) and Fabrizio (Jack's Italian friend) be her gently manic pixie dream boy (and, of course, die). In retrospect I might have given my 14 year old sister the best part as the snarky no-nonsense little sibling. I tragically lacked self-awareness and poured my entire heart into it. Thank goodness I had no idea you could put out stories on the internet and that my best friend at the time (the only other human being who read this story) was kind and just as obsessed with the movie as I was ^^'

(I should point out that I wrote it with pencil on loose paper gathered in a binder I lost long ago. Such is life.)

Talos Curze

The youngest of the children originally he was going to be 18 but then I'm like 'some of my head canon stuff/drabbles is nsfw and I don't feel comfortable with you just being barely legal' so he's 20 while the eldest is 24/25

Talos Curze Class: Rogue (Specifically Assassin) Personal Deity: Shar Alignment: Lawful Evil/more of a neutral slant

He looks like a miniature version of his father with the key difference being how much he smiles and is actually far more hygienic (as well as he doesn't walk around naked and crazy) ((Though he can))

But like being his father he too also could see the future but Konrad actually soothed his child using some of what he was taught for his nightmarish visions

He is one of the happiest people you will meet always with a big smile on his face, even if his teeth look like they could rip out a man's throat (and they can). He is also the silliest member wanting to make his cousins laugh and will often happily participate with Sigismund's antics or songs (He loves singing the "You're fucked" song)

Is very close to his cousin Raven Corax as they will often work in tandem but while she is nearly serious all the time he seems to rarely be serious

That is until you give him a contract or give him his mask.

His mask looks like a Night Lord's face mask and ear wings

He will then slip into the 'Prince of Bats' persona

This alternative persona is what he uses to disassociate so that he can continue to be happy and carefree

His favorite weapons are knives as he has one that will let him teleport (Yes that one inspired from Vox Machina)

Konrad taught him the art of torture and Talos has a delicate hand as his favorite punishment method is to fully skin someone alive and keep them alive for a couple of hours

Which means that he has a skin cloak he is proud of each inch of skin made up of rapists (his favored prey)

The only tense thing about his relationship with his parents is just their open sexuality around him and their insistance on having another child. Talos remembers being sent over to uncle Corvus' house when his mother was on her second moon (ovulating) as Konrad and her spent several days alone together.

He has a feeling he isn't normal but knows he's much better than what his father is even though he idealizes his father

On his back from shoulder blade to shoulder blade is Konrad's personal insignia but it shows what he is... heir apparent of the Night Lords

VOX MACHINA SEASON 3 SPOILERS

I think about this clip a lot, like a unhealthy amount of times because I relate to it.

I feel you, Keyleth. People rarely believe me until it's far too late. I'm often dismissed or ignored when I see red flags. My judgment is usually questioned a lot. And the saddest thing is I end up being proven right in the end. But like I can't even enjoy the satisfaction of it because innocent people still got hurt.

It's hard to see people turn a blind eye to red flags in a person. Especially when others see that bad person as " the kind and gentle one who can do no wrong types " When that couldn't be farther from the truth. You're seeing the red flags for a reason, it's not all in your head.

Sometimes you just gotta let people fall and see the truth for themselves. Because if you try to expose that bad person you might be labeled as the bad guy instead. It's scapegoating at itself finest because god forbid you call out someone's toxic behaviors. Manipulation does crazy stuff to people.

Anyways that's all I have to say, that's my advice for today. Stay safe out there and check people's morals once in a while. Yes even for friends and lovers.
