“And despite how, above table, how fractured this group is, especially how hardheaded Orym is about what he thinks they have to do and we have so many different opinions…”-Liam/Orym
Orym leans into Dorian’s hip (and by my math this is their actual heights in comparison), and Dorian puts his arm and cloak around him, humming a tune as he strokes his hair. I gave Orym rings under his eyes because you know he’s been going through it…
dorym's first kiss and orym is so surprised and happy that he accidentally summons vines of little blue flowers from where his hands are in dorian's hair
Reading through my notes, I noticed there are 4 people that mention the 2 Ruidusborns (Fearne & Imogen) in Bells Hells during the Archheart conversation
Chetney: Directly asks Fearne and Imogen how they feel about potentially being a vessel.
Asthon: Enforces that they trust Fearne and Imogen despite there being a chance of a second calamity if Predathos is released.
Orym: Highlights that nobody has no clue what will happen to Fearne and Imogen if either of them become the vessel.
Laudna: Mentions that she's scared of the possibility of Fearne or Imogen being the vessel.
honest to god the hypocrisy of orym being so terrified of the hypothetical careless harm predathos might do to humanity on being freed, but at the same time so utterly confident that bells hells will beat ludinus in time and prevent the gods from flipping the switch on calamity 2.0: electric boogaloo and reenacting in vivid technicolor the horrors they just finished watching in aeor
like from a meta perspective i get where that confidence comes from: matt wouldn't do that to his friends would he? hand them the L in a climactic conflict they're utterly overmatched by, which shapes the future of exandria in bold and devastating ways that shatter society and throw the heroes on a desperate path to save the world from beings they have almost no hope of defeating (again)?
not matt "fall of emon" mercer.
not matt "rise of the chroma conclave" mercer.
nope. no, i'm sure he'll softball the fight, no risk of him pulling that trigger. anyway
Welcome to the next installment of Fragment Gets Mildly Academic About Critical Role, this time with a side of non-American romance tropes.
While re-listening to c3e108, I had a realization; the pacing of Dorian and Orym’s will-they-just-hurry-it-up feels very influenced by modern Korean drama (K-drama) tropes and I am HERE FOR IT.
Hear me out;
-the external conflict as the setting for the narrative (y’all, Crash Landing Into You vibes)
- the wildly different (yet similar) backgrounds for the love interests
-the (sometimes agonizing) slow burn of friends to more
- THE PENSIVE LOOKS (bonus points if they happen over tea)
- the meaningful hug reunion
- the little touches
- the hugs because warm embraces are such a thiiiiiiing
- the meaningful gifts
- the connection despite conflict
- AAAHHH I LOVE THIS REALIZATION.
When looked at through this lens, their romance is even more nuanced. I’m going to hunt down my research on Kdrama tropes tonight.
