DRDO’s young scientists complete testing of 6-qubit quantum processor
Scientists from DRDO’s Young Scientists Laboratory for Quantum Technologies (DYSL-QT) have completed end-to-end testing of a 6-qubit quantum processor, the Ministry of Defence said.
“The project executed at TIFR Mumbai’s Colaba campus is a three-way collaboration between DYSL-QT, TIFR and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The DYSL-QT scientists put together the control and measurement apparatus using a combination of commercial off-the-shelf electronics and custom-programmed development boards,” the ministry said.

Why India needs Anarchism
Anarchism is a philosophy of direct action. India always had local self governance and direct democracy, in the form of panchayats. Mutual aid has always been a part of the Indian consciousness. But all that is basically a fossilised version of the indian, a digression. I will tell you why we REALLY need anarchism.
Firstly, UPSC, JEE, NEET and the Bureaucrats are colonial legacy
Competitive exams basically throw bodies at the problem of governance poverty and education. Even after JEE Advanced being the hardest exam, the IITs do not rank anywhere in research. Contrarily, TIFR, ICTS, IISc, ISI, RRI- institutes that do NOT take in through JEE or even if they do, they take in very less are actually pretty well known worldwide. Why? You may ask. If you really do want to know we can discuss it later on.
The IAS babu system compels and facilitates corruption as they basically are in place so that the mobs do not go berserk full french revolution mode. I mean, the Brits had ICS for this very reason. Civil servants were always against the independence movement, and the police and the babus have only ever worked to benefit the political upper class, who rarely ever change. In 525 people in the lower house, basically no one is there that is not a result of nepotism. Same is true for local assemblies. You are further removed from politics because if you work for the government you cannot have any political affiliation and if you are anyone else, your company can indiscriminately fire you for being “political”. Why? Because the IAS are the DE FACTO CHAIRMAN OF YOUR COMPANY. The IAS also come up with brain dead policies because they have no idea about the ground reality. So is the case with the Courts, where time and time again people of backward castes are harassed. Therefore your protest and movement will have no participants unless you are the political elite.
I say if you are an anarchist, instead of protesting, which will play into the hands of the ruling state, take it in your own hands. Educate children, do not take the NGO route, find mutual aid. If you are a doctor, or a nurse, educate people in first aid, help them set up their own clinics for primary care. Look up doctors who work in goodwill, improve their access and help them reach you. If you are an engineer, go to farmers, go to different people. Understand their problems, start co-ops to deal with the problem, contribute to open source! See how can you take your knowledge to the people. Gather artisans, cooks, experts, etc. Set up a little gym for youth in backward communities, train them martially to RESIST police and caste oppression! Thousand different ways to achieve this.
Learn from the example of Gandhian Khadi or Swadeshi movement, the Mondragon coop in spain, read about EZLN and Catalonia, read about Rojava. Read Bookchin, Malatesta. Follow the example of Dr Verghese Kurien!
Let not anarchism be a mere talking point. Let it mean action!

Chapter 11 actually made my day. I'm so glad I learnt english because life would be so BLEAK without your works. I can't even put into words how much I loved this chapter. I have so much more to say but I can't even 🗣🗣🗣
Sometimes I read what I have to say in my own reviews/reactions to your fics and other written works and I fear that my words and my joy will be misinterpreted or seen as a hyperbolic rant. In reality I'm being tame about it all (I am refraining from keyboard smashing and spamming emojis right now...)
I hope you're proud Lori! I am extremely proud to say I am a fan of your work. 🤎🤎
Don't be surprised if I'm back next month with another rant after re-reading the big 3 (CIS, TIFR and RB) again.
P.S I just realised you post on AO3 too and I can't wait to read everything on my kindle this time. (I have tears in my eyes)
- Sam/Yeji 🤎
Omg thank you!!!
I think we should all have a collective re-read of TIFR next month and we can discuss each chapter together like a book club!!

Primordial naked singularities: Nature’s quantum gravity laboratories pervading the universe?
Two Indian physicists have theoretically proposed a path-breaking idea which could fundamentally change the current view about the contents of the universe and potentially provide ways to probe a holy grail of physics, namely the quantum gravity. Professor Pankaj Joshi from Ahmedabad University, India (earlier at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research [TIFR], India) and Professor Sudip Bhattacharyya from TIFR have shown that gravitational collapse of matter in the early universe could give rise to incredibly dense point-like objects, namely visible or naked singularities, which could account for a significant fraction of unseen matter in the universe. This research will be published in the prestigious international academic journal, the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (JCAP).
When our current observed universe originated in an explosive Big Bang Singularity event, the states of matter there in terms of temperatures, densities, and other aspects were extreme. Well-known physicist Stephen Hawking suggested in 1971, further to a similar proposal in 1966 by Yakov Zeldovich and Igor Novikov, that there must be what are called ‘Quantum Fluctuations’ in the early universe phase. When sufficiently strong, these lead to gravitational shrinking and collapse of extreme high density matter blobs present there. It was suggested this would create primordial black holes (PBHs) in an ample measure in the early universe.
A black hole is an exotic cosmic object predicted by Einstein’s theory of General Relativity. It does not have a hard surface, and its matter is almost infinitely dense. This matter, namely singularity, is hidden within an invisible boundary, called an event horizon, from within which nothing, not even light, can escape. Thus, one cannot observationally access this singularity and the extreme region within the event horizon in the case of black holes.
It was proposed that primordial black holes could constitute a significant fraction of the dark matter. Dark matter accounts for about a quarter of the contents of the present universe and there is about five times more dark matter than the visible, normal matter. Yet, we do not know with certainty what this mysterious dark matter is made of, and hence it is a fundamental problem of physics and cosmology. Extensive research has continued by scientists worldwide on primordial black holes, and their implications for the issues of dark matter are being investigated tirelessly.
In the new research, Professor Joshi and Professor Bhattacharyya have shown that the gravitational collapse in the early universe phase could also lead to visible or naked singularities where the singularity is not covered by an event horizon. Thus, such primordial naked singularities (PNaSs), unlike in case of black holes, could be observationally accessible. This ultra-strong gravity condition provides a unique and excellent opportunity to probe new fundamental aspects of physics of the universe including quantum gravity. It is currently thought that understanding the quantum gravity is a last major frontier of physics where one aims to build a consistent theory involving two great new theories of the 20th century physics – quantum theory and Einstein’s theory of gravity.
If PNaSs account for a large fraction of the dark matter, then a significant part of the universe could be made of almost infinitely dense point-like objects, that is singularities, which can be observationally accessible. This tantalizing possibility of having visible singularities pervading the universe could change the current view about the universe. PNaSs could, in principle, reveal observable quantum gravity effects and hence serve as natural laboratories to test proposed theories of quantum gravity. These ancient exotic objects, which are as old as the universe itself, will also open up the physics of the extreme region around the singularity to scientists, a region which is inaccessible for black holes.
IMAGE: A cartoon of a black hole and a naked singularity. Either of them can be the end product of a gravita tional collapse of matter, depending on initial and other conditions. For a black hole, nothing, not even light, can escape from within the event horizon. Therefore, the almost infinitely dense matter, that is the singularity, and its surrounding region are inaccessible to a distant observer. But, the singularity and its surrounding region are accessible for a naked singularity because it does not have an event horizon. Thus, naked singularities, if they exist, provide a unique opportunity to probe the quantum gravity near the singularity and other extreme aspects of physics in its surrounding region.
