Hi. I hope this is ok but I really would like you to find a bit from a really early episode please? The intro was basically Jon where he only talked about Stephen for literally no reason? It started as a joke but then Jon just shifts into saying how great he is and looks super in love for a lack of a better description. Like he was trying to say something to Stephen or something? It seemed really personal for some reason? If you could find it I would be really grateful. I think about it a lot. Thank you.

I do remember this. I don't speculate about their relationship cuz there really isn't anything to speculate about. They love & adore each other, end of. But I do agree this does feel weirdly personal especially for this era Jon. Tbf, Jon was actually quite sick during this episode & the few episodes after so I always assumed it was because Stephen was basically looking after him & maybe it was the first time it happened as this took place at the end of 2000 & this was just Jon's way of making sure Stephen knew he was grateful. We'll never know. But one thing we do know due to Jon being on tv so long, that aint no tv smile. That's one of those genuine ones & its just fucking adorable.

Awkward Stewbert from election specials part 2!

This was from early '05 so a good few months before Stephen leaves for The Colbert Report & I think they were trying to solidify more of the character Stephen's backstory before he left.

If you're wondering why the usual bluster has been replaced with this weird almost needy meekness, I'm pretty sure at this point 'Stephen' was already in love with Jon & not wanting to deal with it & as you can see, his home life is currently not doing great.

Off the top of my head, I don't think 'Stephen' acted like this again before he left which is why this one always stood out to me.
