truthfully, all of them intrigue me in one way or another 😅 But Beneath the Acres and There Will Come Soft Rains are especially calling to me 👀 (but you def don't have to do both! you can obvs pick whichever one you'd rather talk about 💕) (also please take your time <3)

WIP ask game 🩵

since i’ve sorta talked about There Will Come Soft Rains in another ask, i’ll go ahead and talk about Beneath the Acres <3 (but ima come back to TWCSR, i love that fic too much to not talk about it LOL)

i’ve actually briefly talked to you about BtA in the DM’s! (but i’ll go over it again because i kinda just really want to… ive missed BtA so much 🥹)

basically, Zack and Max are detectives in the boroughs of Brooklyn, New York, years after Magic was exposed. Crime rates on the Magical Creatures side have been, like, on the extreme side, as they are all mostly poorer and severely mistreated (people fear what they don’t understand)

Maya and Zack are dating at the beginning of this fic, but then they break up about ten chapters in i believe i’ll make it? still haven’t fleshed out that part yet. But Max definitely will have a mix of feelings about it (teehee)

long story short, since im kinda blabbing, there ends up being a sort of murderer going around (and i say sort of because humans don’t like magic folks, so when magic folks are ki//ed, they turn a blind eye) and Max gets fixated on it. And since Zack and Max become partners, Zack has to hear all about it, even though it isn’t even their case (yet). The people who do have the case are sort of… careless, because at first it seems like a mockery, as lambs were slaughtered in the backyard of a Wizards house, but as time goes on it gets worse (plus the note in one of the lamb’s mouths send red flags too (which again are ignored))

in one of the chapters, which is near the beginning and before any more murders happen, Zack and Max get the case instead and now investigate a local barn where the lambs could’ve been bought from. And at some point, in another chapter, Max puts two and two together that the lambs were a nod to the executions of witches in Spain, specifically during Francisco Goya’s time. The burning of the lambs nods to witches being burnt, is an example (i don’t wanna give too much away)

the murderer references a bunch of different things, a main example being art, which is why they begin to focus on such for a while.

NOW onto There Will Come Soft Rains.

so i actually got the title from one of my favorite poems! i do love to give meaning to a hunch of things, so that’s kinda why i chose it. but as we know, it references how nature will thrive in spite of humanity, kind of like how—despite losing someone—the world moves anyway, as should everyone else along with it
