My Review of GTO - Great Teacher Onizuka

Oh, shit. Only now do I realize that I haven't posted an actual review since October and it's now January 1st. That is unlike me, but I guess there's been a domino effect of things happening one after another like a small vacation out of state, working through the holidays, and just general laziness. Okay, let me get back on track. Let's review, GTO!

Well, this has been a long time coming. This has been seen as one of the greatest animes of all time. I mean, “greatest” is in the title so it would be false advertising.

Eikichi Onizuka is about to become a teacher. He’s 22, a virgin, and an ex-biker gang leader. Perfect qualifications! Onizuka has high ambitions of becoming the greatest teacher of all-time. Hence, the title of this show. Is it for his love of education? No, he just wants a high school waifu. Oh honey, that’s going to get you put right in the slammer. Don’t let this perverted side fool you, Onizuka has a lot of life experience that could set his students on the right path. Unfortunately, Onizuka is put in the roughest class at Holy Forest Academy. Could this be a test for him or is he the right person for the job?

A lot of doubt has been thrown at Onizuka. He has quite the police record including more recent incidents and even more to come as you’ll see throughout this series. In his assistant teaching stint, he did some unorthodox methods of getting through to some students and parents. In the actual teaching interview, Onizuka punched and later body-slammed the vice principal. But, Onizuka wound up as an instructor. A middle school teacher, but a teacher nevertheless. These students are at the threshold of adulthood despite all the things they’ve gone through. I mean, these kids are dealing with shit like bullying, sexual assault, suicide, body issues, and trust issues. Mr. Onizuka might just be the right person for the job to help with these difficult pre-teens/teens.

You know, when Onizuka isn’t doing something sketchy.

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Holy shit, look at all of these castmates on the dub. Everyone here has 2-5 roles in this anime. Shit, early 2000’s dubbing company, hire more people. You know how early this anime dub was? Steven Blum played the titular character and used a fake name for the credits. Wow! Come on, like we aren’t going to know that’s really Spike Speigel voicing this bro. Another amazing sight for this anime is the fact that they got the Papenbrooks to voice a couple of characters. That’s right, Debbie Rothstein and the late Bob Papenbrook. By the looks of it, Bryce wasn’t in this anime. I think this was dubbed prior to his anime debut.

As for the sub…OH SHIT, SEKI-ALERT! Greatest seiyuu in the world, Tomokazu Seki! Yeah, this looks like Toji 2.0. And that makes so much sense because Tomokazu Seki does play Toji. Look at these two and tell me I'm not crazy. Anyways, here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

JAPANESE CAST:

DISLIKED CHARACTER: First things first, I will not hate on any of these students. A lot of these students like Miyabi and Anko (despite being absolute bitches) had some unfortunate things happen to them or to their friends. It’s not really their fault they were dealt a shitty hand in life. Especially when you have educators who you’re supposed to put your faith and trust in and they do something to you so unforgivable that you look upon every educator in a horrible light. Anko and the girls bullying Yoshikawa relentlessly is definitely something I dislike, but I’m going to stay focused on where I was going.

The adults at the school however are fair game. Onizuka and Fuyutsuki are excused here to an extent. Onizuka has his demons and everyone knows it. He does get his point across albeit through unorthodox methods. Though he would totally be fired in real life! And Fuyutsuki has been nothing but kind and patient with her students. But I digress, many of these teachers showcased here are pretty bad. Especially the gym teacher and the English teacher Mr. Sakurada. The gym teacher reminds me too much of the gym teacher from Persona 5 and that’s a big strike. If you know, you know! Sakurada on the other hand, there’s no forgiving with him when he gets involved in trying to steal the third-year class trip money and would just sit there and allow Onizuka’s head be put on the chopping block. Never mind being blackmailed by one of his students, he did Mr. Onizuka dirty here. Now as for Vice Principal Uchiyamada…

And the face he makes before…well, you’ve all seen the memes.

Every episode I tell myself that maybe there’s something deeper to this guy. That there’s some redeeming quality to this man and that he doesn’t deserve to be shit on episode after episode. I know there were a lot of shows and animes that would be mean to the vice principal or have them be the butt of the joke. Mr. Bone from Doug and Guber from Boston Public come to mind. Uchiyamada has definitely been the severe punching bag and butt of the joke in the series. I stopped counting how many times his car got destroyed because of Onizuka. To be fair, some of those were to stop a student from committing suicide. But then you remember his very first scene in this show was of him staring at and later sniffing Miss Fuyutsuki’s ass.

Hell yeah, I’m putting Vice Principal Uchiyamada on here!

…I do wane away from hating this guy later on though.

SHIPPING: You know what? I was sitting here the several months I spent watching this anime thinking that this couple was going to happen. And when I hit the final episode. I’m shocked yet not surprised. I’m just going to crumple up this ship, throw it in the garbage and pretend I never thought what I thought.

PREQUEL: A couple of years prior to the GTO anime, a five-part OVA series was released between 1994 and 1997 showing Onizuka and his friend Ryuuji in their high school days. This was during their middle/high school days where they were known as Onibaku. Just letting you know, nobody has licensed this in the states, it’s not streaming anywhere, there is no English dub, beware of shotty subtitles, and the Japanese cast is different from the television series.

MUSIC: I know everyone goes to the first opening theme by L'Arc~en~Ciel. And you should, it’s a great song. But if you want a toe-tapping earworm, the second opening Hitori no Yoru is the jam.

I swear, I always neglect Porno Graffitti. I need to stop, because they’ve been putting out good-ass bangers for the last 20 years.

ENDING: The final arc just before the finale was the classes taking the big trip to Okinawa. This almost didn’t happen due to one of Onizuka’s students blackmailing one of the teachers to trick Onizuka and steal all the money for the trip. That was an ordeal. But they all made it! This trip showed more of Yoshikawa than I anticipated. Remember this kid? He’s the one that almost offed himself several times throughout the series and has been bullied repeatedly. The bullying continued on this trip. So Onizuka got the bright idea of changing the sleeping arrangements and having them become coed. The end result of having Yoshikawa and his bully Anko share the same room led to an episodes-long coming to terms for Anko having feelings for Yoshikawa despite all the bullying.

Does it bother anybody else that Anko looks and acts too much like Asuka Langly Soryu? What is it with this anime and its characters looking like Evangelion characters? It can’t just be that they came out in the same decade. There’s gotta be like several animators that worked on both anime!

The final two episodes answer the question of who the hell was the teacher before Onizuka. We got our answer when the dude (Mr. Saitou) ends up in the hospital after being stabbed nearly to death. The students loved their teacher. But he wound up in a relationship with another student in the class. And when found out, Saitou promised his class one thing, but turned around and did something else. The whole class felt betrayed by the teacher they once trusted. The end result of this ordeal was that Saitou left Holy Forest Academy and actually wound up working at another school despite what he did at his prior employment. The girl Saitou had an affair with wound up pregnant and later committed suicide. And the entire classroom of students was left with a severe distrust of educators.

It's no doubt that in these last 40 episodes, Onizuka has helped each and everyone of his students in one way or another. For many, they were able to put their faith in a teacher again. But one final holdout was still never going down. And that was Miyabi! She has been trying to get Onizuka fired at every given opportunity. These episodes, she switched gears to another target. One night, she visited Mr. Saitou and stabs him. Miyabi was on the run for most of the day until she was found by Onizuka ready to stab a member of the board of education. Onizuka had a few choice words for this guy. So, the board of education guy was like, “Imma end this man’s career”. The board has given the principal an ultimatum. Miyabi must surrender herself to the police and Onizuka must be terminated for “assaulting” a board member.

Thankfully, the entire school was on Onizuka’s side. Despite everyone risking their own careers to support this guy, it is what it is. Even Vice Principal Uchiyamada! That was pretty surprising as Uchiyamada has been on a crusade since day one to get Onizuka terminated. The principal put her foot down with her decisions concerning Miyabi and Onizuka that it really ruffled the board members’ feathers. I should say so as they are some shady fucks. Murai and the other students do some sleuthing of their own and came across some interesting things. Mr. Saitou was really trying to do the right thing by his students. Miyabi didn’t stab him, Saitou stabbed his own damn self in a suicide attempt. And the school board is pretty much the bad guy in this situation.

It all comes together when Onizuka enters the room, brings the press, and admits to everyone that he stabbed Mr. Saitou. This whole scene was just anarchy that it was hard for anyone to comprehend everything that’s about to go down. The anime just shows Onizuka leaving with the police…and then he tries to escape. All of a sudden, it’s two months later. Fuyutsuki and the principal are wondering if Onizuka will ever return. And at that same time, Onizuka’s on his motorcycle traveling the United States southwest until winding up in California where he’s going to be a teacher at a junior high.

Okay, sure anime! “See you soon”. Yeah, sure. I’ll buy that. THIS ANIME CAME OUT 25 YEARS AGO AND THAT’S STILL THE LAST WE’VE SEEN OF GTO. At least in anime form. The manga went on until 2002.

I’m sure this is another case for me to go to the manga and start digging around for answers if there are any. Yes, I enjoyed this one. Okay, yes. Onizuka is the…great…Shit, I can’t finish that sentence. I’m still on Team Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom. I know both teachers are of different generations and their curriculum was hella different, but I still have to side with Koro-sensei.

I think everyone here wishes they had a teacher like Onizuka. Well…a majority of people. You do have to admit, a lot of the things he did throughout the series would have gotten him fired, arrested, or deported. Going to a home and smashing a wall so that a father and daughter would be closer. That’s one way, but I’m surprised that family wasn’t pressing charges. The raucous behavior he’s had throughout the series. The perversion too! The numerous amounts of times he destroyed the vice principal’s car. And let’s not forget some of the things he did before he entered Holy Forest Academy.

Is there ever hope that this’ll ever see a revival? There’s always hope! Hell, Fruits Basket got a revival and exceeded expectations. And other anime revivals happened to…lesser expectations. Maybe one day, some crazy studio (maybe MAPPA) will do a service to the anime community once again, give us a new cast, have Aniplex pick it up, and have the whole story told. Or, we could just leave it be and have the classic remain a classic.

bought myself some fresh flowers and im so happy i might start buying flowers every once in a week or month!

start saving again (from scratch lol) and im so grateful i have enough for now

spending more time with my parents (incl eating, watching movies, driving around the town, telling stories, throwing jokes, and many more)

oh i bought myself a new ring. cute one with a simple floral design><

painted my nails in dusty mauve colour!!!! i think im gonna get the cherry red nail polish real quick

finished my monthly tasks!

went to several wedding ceremonies and lunch party invitations with a friend and we always wear matching outfits lol (and still counting)

accompany a friend to a barber shop lmao even tho i focused so much on my phone but it was quite fun

ate lots of papayas! (it might sounds basic BUT NO i grew them from seeds and now they producing so much fruits! im deeply touched by that fact!!! theyre like my children!)

harvested chillies… i know i often harvested them BUT THIS ONE WAS DIFFERENT. IT WAS BIG AND SPICYYYYY TO THE POINT I SHED A TEAR WHILE EATING THEM (i also grew them from seeds)

finally had a new refrigerator ive been longing for hahaha. it was a dream come true moment bc whenever i went to a mart i’d always look for this cupboard-like refrigerator and said i’ll buy it later

got byredo blanche tester and im obsessed with the smell!

ate salmon sashimi with a little wasabi (turned out wasabi wasnt that bad i never tried it bc im afraid it’d had a weird taste)

bought myself some new clothes… pants, vest, tops, sweatshirt, and a white skirt!

ate so much cheesecakes and tried a carrot cake with raisins in it

bought a cute black totebag with a cute keycharm as well! (most important part is…. it fits my umbrella as i love to bring umbrella these days kkkk)

started using highlighter on my face and surprisingly it sits perfectly on my skin… MY SKIN IS LITERALLY GLOWING

drinking tons of hot peppermint tea and chamomile tea!!!

binge watching “teasing master takagi-san” (the live action series) and “the makanai: cooking for the maiko house” you guys should go watch em 10/10 recommended

chatting and laughing and throwing compliments towards people i just met… at mosque or anywhere

ate mie ayam (with kerupuk!!) and nasi liwet ayam sambal pecak with friends and we shared so much joy & laughter

went to get some facial treatment with a friend every month. we waited for each other and we really enjoyed it

walked and chatted with a friend under an umbrella on a rainy day. it was so serene & had some kind of romantic vibes to the point that i thought we were going to shoot a music video HAHA

received five boxes of bricks characters from a friend! SO HAPPY

changed my shampoo so now my hair smells really nice even after 2 days or maybe more (bc i wash my hair every 2 days) lol the smell lasts for a long time im afraid people might think i use an expensive hair mist><

bought some books that had been on my wishlist for so longgg^^

bought a new washing machine (out of nowhere) for my parents lol

my friend gave me his workplace’s keyring!!! it was so random but okay hahaha (i wouldnt forget the effort he made to give me that keyring)

watched a movie with a friend and ate a big piece of honey sweet potato in a mall’s parking lot with the windows’ car opened while listening to my playlist! i have this much love for honey sweet potato but after i broke up with my ex i never had it anymore so i decided to create new memories with friends & enjoy that honey sweet potato!

bought matcha creamy latte and chocolate latte with a friend and then enjoyed it while sitting in the car watching the sun sets. IT WAS PRETTY RELAXING

met elementary kids at mosque! they complimented me several times from the time i got off the car, said that im pretty and cute. one of them even poke my cheek. they asked me about lot of things so i answered and just talked to them. i love seeing their bright smiles, hearing their excited tone while talking to me. we also played rock paper scissors! when i said i gotta go home, they made me do pinky promise with them, they told me to promise them that i’d go back there someday to play together again

met kids (again) at different mosque. when i was doing my wudhu i heard someone called “kak” but i just shrugged it off thinking it wasnt for me bc i dont know them and that mosque located so far away from my house. when i finished, all wet, i heard them called “kakak… kakak�� again so i looked at them to find out who they were trying to talk with and why that kakak didnt answer them. turned out that person was me!! t__t i remember (faintly) there were around 7-8 kids smiling at me while still calling me “kakak” and they all took turns to shake hands with me… i was so surprised but still welcomed them all, ofc with a confused smile. my dad even asked me who the kids are so i shrugged and told my dad “i dont even know them???? idk why they did that to me neither” and then we laughed together

Despite the new boy working in the back for most of the time, Haruko felt tense all day. Regular customers seemed to notice, asking her if she was alright, but she was always quick to dismiss their worries with a shake of her head and a smile. She was adamant to not let her personal issues interfere with the prosperity of the Coffee Bean, and as much as she disliked that guy, all that mattered was whether he could actually live up to her boss' expectations and be a useful hand to him. In the end, Haruko's love for the Coffee Bean abundantly surpassed her grudge for that palm tree.

Still, she did feel a shiver of nervousness creeping down her spine as the boy approached the counter; she could feel his presence looming over her, even more so given his impressive stature. She did her best to ignore him as he poured himself some coffee, keeping her focus on the old lady she was busy serving -- one of the regulars, along with her little yorkshire.

"Lukewarm strawberry latte as usual, Mrs Toku?" Haruko asked, doing her best to keep up her smile.

"Oh yes. You know, my sweet tooth..." The old lady offered a wrinkly grin. "Do you still have those cookies for Rin? She loves them so much..."

"Of course." Haruko hurried to grab the glass jar from under the table, where they kept the dog treats; it had been one of her suggestions after befriending Mrs Toku, and her boss had seen no issues with integrating it as part of the service. She picked a small, bone-shaped biscuit and reached over the counter, stretching an arm towards the little dog. "Here you go, Rin!"

"Thank you dear. She does love coming here for her treats..." The old lady's fond gaze moved onto the boy behind Haruko; her eyes widened, magnified by the large thick glasses she was wearing. "My my. Who is this handsome one?"

Haruko's smile stiffened a bit. She could only hope that would help her figuring out the boy's name at last...

"He's our new assistant," she said, keeping her tone jovial while not turning to face him. "He's in charge of baking pastries. You might see some new offers from him soon, we hope you'll like them..."

... Which was a kinder way of saying 'If you don't, it's his fault'. As long as the blame didn't fall on the Coffee Bean.

"If they're as tasty as he's handsome, they'll be quite a treat," Mrs Toku laughed, giving the boy a nod. "I for sure will be looking forward to try some. Lucky Haruko, you got yourself some pleasant company... Takagi sure did you a favor there."

Haruko's reply came in a chocked chuckle, while she hoped the floor would just swallow her hole. If Mrs Toku knew... She held her breath, hoping for an introduction of any sort between the two, but Mrs Toku offered the boy another nod and Haruko a smile before heading to her usual table, waiting to be served. Damnit.

Haruko let out a huff, turning on her heels to prepare the drink. The palm tree was still there.

"... Mrs Toku is, uh--" She muttered, grabbing a glass mug as she averted his gaze, "... She's just very chatty."

With that she quickly poured the strawberry powder in the mug then filled the milk jug and stuck the frothing spout in it; she made sure it was fluffy and firm before pouring it in the mug with a slow movement of her hand, making a cute leaf-shaped decoration. She topped it with some dried rose petals, nodding satisfied at the result.

"She will order a pain au chocolat after a couple of sips," she said, picking the mug while still not looking at the boy. "Make sure there is one ready for her."

And with that, she headed off to Mrs Toku's table, serving her the milk with a smile and giving Rin a couple of gentle pats before going back to her job.

With that, Renji got to work. He'd leave the experimenting for later on. For now, he wanted to familiarize himself with the specialties that this bakery had to offer. Absorb all the information that he could about the techniques they utilized, the ratios, the types of flours, butters, etc. Once he got the basics down, then perhaps he could start incorporating some special techniques. After all, pastries were his area of expertise, and he never turned down the opportunity to be able to experiment.

A couple of hours later, finally when the afternoon rush was over, Renji came out into the main dining area, to take a breather. The last batch of pastries were in the oven, and he had another batch cooling. The amount of customers they received was no joke, as he watched products fly off the shelves. Looks like he'd definitely have to keep up the pace if he didn't want anything in particular to run out. Good thing there was a good amount of staff.

Walking over to the coffee machine, he ignores Haruko, who was standing behind the register to make himself a cup of coffee. Good thing that they worked in different areas of the bakery. The less they interacted, the better. With a temper as fiery as hers, Renji doubted that they could get along.

He sips, leaning against the bench, surveying the customers as they ate and sipped happily, chattering away as if there were no worries in the world.

I am upset there was like, no ackowledgement in the episode of Ultimate as a level though, or the fact that they really had no chance at beating him in combat (I feel they could’ve done that acknowledgement if they still had Angoramon do the Digimon Analyzer bit instead of showing it at the very end of the episode) (also I feel like there could’ve been some OnePunch-Man energy here if Piemon was seeking out cardgames specifically because he’s too powerful to fight otherwise, but like, if that was the idea behind the character then it got slightly lost because the power level was never acknowledged at all. It was a missed opportunity is all I’m saying), and the fact that he didn’t even fight is a bit. It’s a shame. But this was literally more than I could’ve hoped for as far as content of my fave goes, like. It could’ve been better, but I’m so fucking happy I can only be grateful at this point

I think sometimes listening to music in my earbuds while going out and interacting with the world will be as close to how I feel on the inside about my life as I can in the real world.  Aphex Twin , Nobukazu Takemura, William Basinksi, Hiroshi Yoshimura, Masakatsu Takagi, and Sugar Plant are among the best ambient noise work artists that make the real world so much more beautiful to experience. I have been enjoying going to coffee shops and cafes while listening to my ambient playlist- the sounds of milk steaming wands, calling out people’s orders, beeps of coffee machines, people chattering, coffee grinding- all while my music is being drowned out and then slowly walking away to a quiet area and I can hear my music again... its so beautiful how my existence and sound and vibration melt into a scene of other people. And, once I become alone standing on the street corner, I can once again appreciate my own choice of sound. I like thinking about it this way; the universe and laws of sound make it so that I can't block out the noise of other people- I am forced to appreciate the world around me if I decide to put myself in relative proximity to these loud environments. But, when I decide to move myself away from it, only then can I have what I want- my music and noise.

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san 3 – 04 – Tease the Night

The weather is starting to turn in TakaKata Land, but the day Nishikata decides to change to his warmer winter uni, Takagi is still in her short-sleeved summer fuku. We see just how accustomed to losing challenges Nishikata is when she says that because he changed first, he wins a game she had goin on in her head—that doesn’t sit right with him!

He makes up a new game—one he’s sure to lose—in which Takagi loses if she says the word “cold”. He tries to get her to respond in a manner that would sound like the word cold, but as usual she’s too sharp for him. When he tries again, she turns the game to her advantage, drawing very close and asking if she says “cold” like he wants, will he…warm her up?

After the three girls are out of sync due to an undelivered text, Nishikata finds all his usual lunch buddies are out sick (or pretending to be sick), so he resigns himself to eating lunch alone on the steps, which he tries to make the best of but can’t help but feel lonely. Sure enough, Takagi sensed he might be lonely and joins him.

It occurs to me that these two rarely eat lunch together since they each have their own circles of lunch buddies. It’s so lovely to see them just sitting together silently munching away. Then Takagi has Nishikata guess what’s in her onigiri, claiming one of his prized karaage should he be wrong. She wins, but feels bad about taking his food, so gives him one of her crispy lotus roots, acting until the very last second like she was going to feed him, lovey-dovey style.

The next segment involves Nishikata trying to snap a photo of a thrown rock that looks like a UFO in the sky. Takagi helps by doing the throwing, and while she admits she doesn’t really believe, she likes that Nishikata does. It’s part of what makes her adore him. In a lovely whimsical twist, she spots a actual UFO, but he doesn’t see it.

One day the bath in the Nishikata household is inoperable, so he has to use the public baths. Takagi asks him what time he’s going and he tells her, then spends the entire time there either looking for her or wondering why she didn’t come. Then she surprises him by the milk vending machine, admitting she not only came, but came early, perfectly calculating how much longer she’d take compared to him.

Nishikata’s longing for Takagi’s company, even if they were separated by the different sections of the bathhouse, speaks to his growing affection for her and desire to be by her side more often than not. The feeling is obviously (to everyone but him, of course) mutual, as Takagi remarks how they don’t usually walk together at night, and how it obscures their faces.

After Nishikata very foolishly challenges Takagi to a “whose face turns red first” contest— as soon as she leans into him he loses—the two continue their nighttime walk until it’s time to part ways to head to their respective homes. As she departs, Nishikata offers, unbidden, to walk her home, since it’s nighttime and thus not as safe for a young lady.

Takagi is so shocked by his offer, and loves so much how it sounds like something a boyfriend would say, she simply stands there in a perfect blend of befuddlement and delight. Then she thanks Nishikata for the offer and darts off, strategically hiding from him what must be a beet-red face.

My Review of Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan

A random guy being struck in the head with a spiked-bat and having his entire skull swiped away in a bloody mess. You’d think I would have picked this up in 2007 when I picked up a punch of other absurd animes like Super Milk Chan. But time does make fools out of all of us. And because the randomizer is being a dick to me currently, I’m now stuck with this ridiculous mess. A student who disappears and no one noticed a thing. The class rep randomly turns into a monkey. Another boy randomly turns into a Shiba Inu. The male protagonist gets half of his skull sliced off and is magically better five seconds later (and the last one happens numerous times throughout the series).

That my friends, is the magic of Dokuro-Chan! Dokuro Mitsukai is an angel sent to the past to take care of a problem that will shape the very future. She was sent to kill a high school boy named Sakura Kusakabe. And before I continue the synopsis, I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a boy with the name “Sakura”. Amazing! Anyways, the reason why Sakura has a hit by angels in the future is because in the future, Sakura will come up with a way to stop females from developing at the age of 12 and these women stay like that forever. So imagine if a 67 year old girl looks like a 10 year old! Wow, that’s…oh so illegal! That is just raising the Lolita-fetish by 3000%! Well, Dokuro has taken a liking to Sakura and thinks she can find a way around this without killing him. However, other angels like Sabato Mihashigo and Dokuro’s sister Zakuro think he needs to be destroyed. And every episode we watch as this boy gets whacked eight ways from Sunday! Yeah, this anime is balls-to-the-wall out there, filled with poop jokes, panty-shots, crude humor, and absurdity on Pop Team Epic levels. BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: So back in the day, this anime was carried by Media Blasters and given an English dub. Now Media Blasters is still around! It’s just that a lot of their older animes have died off and it’s up to other companies to give it a good home. So now Discotek licensed it. The dub has many recognizable voices who thankfully went on to do better things like Wendee Lee, Mela Lee, Laura Bailey, and Johnny Yong Bosch. But again, you have to start somewhere in this business!

And I do find it funny that voice actress Mela Lee makes a call back to this particular anime. When Lee was in Durarara, she said the signature line Dokuro says and hearing her in this makes me giggle. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from. JAPANESE CAST: *Dokuro is played by Saeko Chiba (known for Nagihiko on Shugo Chara, Nina on Code Geass, Miu on NANA, Azmaria on Chrono Crusade, Ruby on Rosario to Vampire, and Neko Musume on xxxHOLiC Kei) *Sakura is played by Reiko Takagi (known for Tadase on Shugo Chara, Holly on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 2, Su on Love Hina, and Young Bon on Blue Exorcist) ENGLISH CAST: *Dokuro is played by Wendee Lee (known for Faye on Cowboy Bebop, Konata on Lucky Star, Kirigakure on Blue Exorcist, Yoruichi on Bleach, Yui on Fushigi Yugi, Moegi on Naruto, and Haruhi Suzumiya) *Sakura is played by Johnny Yong Bosch (known for Ichigo on Bleach, Lelouch on Code Geass, Makoto on Free!, Izaya on Durarara, Artemis on Sailor Moon redub, Koizumi on Haruhi Suzumiya, and Yukio on Blue Exorcist) SHIPPING: So it’s obvious that Sakura has eyes for Shizuki, a random girl in his class. But she’ll never express her feelings. At the end of several episodes, she has this face of disappointment given towards Sakura. Probably because the mood is always broken by one Dokuro-chan!

Dokuro seems to like Sakura as she hasn’t tried to kill him and made it stick. Every time she would destroy his body, she would always repair it. Any other angel with the mission of killing Sakura would have laid waste to this kid by the end of episode one. But Dokuro doesn’t want to do so as she likes Sakura. Hell, she defied orders from her superiors, including her younger sister to be with this guy. However, she wouldn’t hesitate killing him for accidentally copping a feel! GUILTY PLEASURE: Pipiru piru piru pipiru pi

…I like the OP theme… I’m officially going to Hell for saying that. ENDING: Well this series is only 4 episodes (or eight 13-minute episodes). Each episode is filled with angel-laced crack and several times an episode we watch as Sakura is disembodied by a spiked-bat. You know, usual shit for an anime like this! So the final episode has Dokuro wanting to start her own club at the school. And hearing Wendee Lee as Dokuro, I am immediately having vivid nightmares of the S.O.S. brigade when she’s talking about joining a club. Much to my dismay, it’s so much worse…for Sakura! Well all that fun and frivolity comes to a sudden stop when the school is visited by Dokuro’s baby sister, Zaruko.

WHO IS NINE YEARS OLD?! DA FUCK, JAPAN?! Because Dokuro broke protocol by not doing away with Sakura like her original mission indicated, she was to immediately go back with her sister and receive a penalty for her crimes. Meanwhile, everything on earth will go back to normal and no one will remember any of this mess. But Dokuro doesn’t want to leave because she loves living with Sakura. Now Sakura has a decision to make. He can either have Dokuro leave and never come back or continue having a loli angel live in his closet and decapitate him every other day. Sakura chooses the latter. But Zaruko ends up taking her away…only for Dokuro to escape. She ends up returning back to Sakura’s room and when he came back thinking things were going to go back to boring life as normal, he’s decapitated. Aw, so abnormality wins in the end!

SEASON TWO: Why is Dokuro’s hair teal-colored now? Oh who the fuck cares? It’s only two episodes! It’s just more random shenanigans. Only now, you’ve got both Dokuro and Zakuro living with Sakura. What else do I have to say, the final two episodes were just more of the same with Sakura being impaled every couple of minutes or so, Sakura striking out with Shizuki, and getting in all sorts of trouble caused by Dokuro. We even get a meaningless cameo from Sabato’s mother who tries to take her daughter back to their time but gives up by the end of the episode. And then mentions something about Dokuro being related to…oh who the fuck cares?! Finally we end up with a bizarre Valentine’s episode. And the series really doesn’t end on any kind of note. It’s just the final episode with no real conclusion and ended like any other regular episode. It’s been 12 years since this anime ever saw the light of day and let’s keep it that way. What the hell did I just watch?

Seriously, this show is just balls-to-the-wall insane. And this is the same person who found some sort of sense and sanity in watching something like Excel Saga. This is like if Super Milk Chan and Puni Puni Poemi had sex and this show was the product of that mess. And then you just fill it with the most absurd things in the world like people being decapitated, panty shots, side-boobs, nip-slips, poop jokes, diarrhea jokes, crude jokes, random cameos from Kim Jong Il and George W. Bush, and random students turning into real life animals (including a baboon, giraffe, and shiba inu). It was all quite insane. Only, AND ONLY IF you are feeling extra curious that I would recommend stumbling upon and watch this. If you’re not a fan of blood, I wouldn’t recommend it. I know the blood-shed that’s used is mostly supposed to be funny (I guess?), but there’s a lot of it. The animation is nothing too special. The comedy is kinda hit-and-miss with me. Then again, there are only 6 episodes and if you’re bored, go ahead and watch this. Okay, now that this nightmare is over, what’s the next anime I’m watching in this category? Nozomi Entertainment/Discotek/Shit made before Fall 1986, and go!

Marmalade Boy! Oh good, I’m always in the mood for a cute shoujo anime. Medea, it’s also surprise incest! Wait, WHAT?! DAMMIT 2019!

At Ranko's insistence over her popularity, Haruko further sank her head between her shoulders and blushed, but said nothing. She waited while her boss scrutinised the girl beside her, until he finally let out a deep sigh.

"Alright. I suppose you can take today as a trial, the day is almost over anyways. Your probation starts tomorrow." He nodded at Haruko. "Show her around."

Mariko perked up, a relieved smile on her face.

"Sure!" She took Ranko by the arm. "Come, I'll give you a tour!"

She showed her the back room, with the pantry, the registers, and the bathroom reserved to the staff. "The cleaning products are in the bathroom too," she said. "Whoever closes the shop does the last general cleaning for the day. We also have a calendar to remind us when the plants need to be watered," she said, pointing at a green table hung on the wall. "Not all of them need the same amount of water, after all."

She proceeded to the counter and the many shelves behind it. "These are the coffee powders. I don't use them -- Mister Takagi prepares the blends himself and he's pretty strict about it. But I can make the drinks, prepare the sweets... Here," she said, kneeling and opening a cupboard under the counter. "This is the fridge with all the cool stuff. Milk, whipped cream, the ingredients I use to decorate cupcakes and parfaits... All that sort of stuff."

She stood up and patted her knees before taking the apron she had left on a hook and wearing it. She smiled at Ranko as she tied a knot behind her back.

"We'll get you one too. Oh, and don't worry about the dressing code -- what matters is lookign tidy and staying comfortable. So," she said, resting her hands on her hips. "Do you have any question? You can help me putting the groceries away and then I can make you a snack!"

“So you are popular.” See? His guess from earlier was spot-on. It might be a troubling kind of popularity for the other, though, since she was a girl. It’s not like he didn’t know how much of a pain guys can be when you’re a pretty girl, so he could relate to that, to a certain degree — aside from the fact that he would often use his girl form’s charms to get said guys to do his bidding. The other didn’t seem the type to do things like that, though.

But, she did say she kicked the guy’s shin, so he’s not too worried.

Glancing up at the guy questioningly, he didn’t seem to realize what the baldy was talking about, but offered a half-hearted ‘sure’ anyway, crossing his arms behind his back. He did need the job, after all.
