How do you celebrate a family birthday? It was Eldest's 15th Birthday at the weekend 🎉. Yikes! It was very different to past birthdays, especially comparing 10 years ago. This is my twist on the 10 year challenge as these things annoy me! Eldest just wanted homemade fish pie this year. He had a fab day chilling with his new bass 🎸I made it downstairs for tea and we played Would you rather...? But with all boys it soon turned gross! 💩🤮 - moving on.. Eldest's 5th birthday was crazy - in the village hall with 40+ 5 year olds 🤪! Back then I’d go full theme. Youngest's 3rd Birthday was a Superhero party. I made the cake, play dough, 5/6 games and even a bat cave with a bat symbol torch! I was in my element! As they got older, it became 4/5 kids and sleepovers. Then I got ill so I'd stay in bed hiding from noise! At first I'd still make their cakes, baking was therapy. See 2nd pic (how similar is my sweets cake? to this year’s? I made veg cakes using eggs from our hens, fair-trade sugar & chocolate (mostly). The cherry cake is choc & courgette and was delicious! It seems impossible to buy ethical cakes. Joel choice was great, but I wish the cakes were as easy to buy as fair trade ingredients. But Eldest got his wish and said 'it was his best birthday ever'! If You Had Only 24 hours left to live, What Would You Do? I’m asking, because there's myriad possibilities and I’d love to hear what you’d get up to. Today’s Rare Disease Day. When you get diagnosed with a serious condition, it can be devastating. When it’s a rare disease, you often have trouble getting diagnosed, then have to travel for treatment - few specialists/little research. Today is very important to raise awareness, but I thought I’d talk about my life today. Our new normal means we have to make life happen now - slowly. We only have control of what’s happening, right’ now! You never know what could happen next! We didn’t! We met at uni in his 3rd year & my 2nd. When we became friends we’d talk into the early hours. One day a friend set us up on a date. We had no idea. I guess that night sta88’rted as unconventional as we’ve continued it. This is us around ‘98 😳😂 Blog out this weekend for you. Joel finished his degree a year before me so had a lhuge decision to make. Was the amazing 7-8 months we'd had enough? He stayed-yay! I didn’t realise the commitment at the time. That chance has given us 21+ years. I wonder what would‘ve happened if he'd not taken that gamble_ Our days can get so busy we can argue over silly things. Don’t let it become more. We've never gone to bed on an argument-4 more tips in Blog! Don’t wait to do anything, show you love someone at every opportunity and don’t sweat the small stuff. Wednesday Wisdom ‘Our greatest strength lies in the gentleness and tenderness of the heart.’ Rumi Strength comes in many forms. I have found out how strong I am since being diagnosed with a rare brain disease which leaves me in bed about 80% of the time. Yet, I’ve learnt how to be more gentle with myself and not feel guilty for what I can’t do.
