You ever wanted to turn Terraria into Touhou?
If so, Here's a list of Mods/Resource Packs from the collection of mine to help you fulfill that.
(Put the cut because it's a long list.)
Mods (TModLoader):
Gensokyo - A medium sized content mod that brings in 21 Bosses (Split into 7 Tiers), a Miniboss, a Town NPC, 22 new enemies, 22 new music tracks, 47 vanity sets, and 180+ items. This mod has a wiki.
Kourindou - A mod that adds in several Fumos into the game. Fully compatible with Gensokyo so that the bosses drop their respective Fumos.
Touhou Little Friends ~ Adventure with Cute Partners - Adds in several characters as pets and Light Pets. Bosses have a 30% chance to drop them (I got 4 at once from a single boss), certain enemies can drop them at a 5% chance, some can be crafted. Additionally, You can buy them from the Mysterious Gap for 2 Gold Coins a piece.
Touhou NPC - Brings in several characters as NPC's.
Junko and Friends - Adds some Touhou stuff, but not just Touhou stuff.
Resource packs (Vanilla/TModLoader, though I wouldn't recommend using a ton on TModLoader)
Yukari Yakumo as Lunatic Cultist - Replaces The Lunatic Cultist to be Yukari Yakumo. Other Lunatic Cultist attacks are also resprited to be Yukari themed.
TOUHOU WEAPONS: Reimu's Fantasy Heaven! - Replaces the Bat Scepter to the paper talismans that Reimu uses.
【Touhou】 Cirno - Replaces the Flickerwick Light Pet with Cirno.
Power and Point Pickups - Replaces Heart pickups as Power Boxes and Mana Stars as Point Boxes (Doesn't replace the Halloween or Christmas variants).
Yukkuri Reimu - Replaces the Vampire Frog to a Yukkuri Reimu.
Bunny with the Suit - Makes all the normal rabbits have suits.
Bunny with the Suit (Golden Variant) - Makes all Gold Rabbits have suits.
Bunny with the Suit (Pet Version) - Makes the Rabbit Pet have a suit.
【Touhou】 Moriya Suwako - Replaces the Little Plantero with Suwako Moriya.
Touhou music replacement - Replaces Terraria music with Touhou music. There are more out there, but this is the one I use.
Cirno Smokin' a Fat Blunt - Replaces the Baby Snowman to Cirno smoking a fat blunt.
Touhou Death Sound - Replaces the normal death sound with the Touhou one.
Mini-Hakkero [Touhou] - Replaces the Last Prism to the Mini-Hakkero,
Tsukasa Kudamaki from Touhou 18 - Replacesthe Spiffo Plush to Tsukasa Kudamaki.

Touhou Wings - Replaces Solar Wings with Flandre's Wings and Frozen Wings with Cirno's Wings.
[TOUHOU] Brain of Cthulhu to Flandre Scarlet - Replaces the Brain of Cthulhu with Flandre Scarlet.

Video Game Track Bracket Round 2
Unwavering Belief from Lost Judgment
youtube
vs.
Guardian of the Former Seas from Terraria Calamity Mod
youtube
Propaganda under the cut. If you want your propaganda reblogged and added to future polls, please tag it as propaganda or otherwise indicate this!
Unwavering Belief:
Go to 3:11 in the songs timestamp if you want to get to the point of why I submitted this song. This song is the ultimate reward for getting to the end of this game. The entire game's OST, consisting of harsh electronic instruments culminates in this grand and dramatic piece with a noticable amount of orchestral elements that perfectly sets the mood of the final boss. This piece is part of multiple tracks that seamlessly blend into each other, transitioning a cutscene into the final boss fight with such an energy that makes you feel so in the moment. This song itself is split into multiple "parts", each signalling a different phase in the fight which keeps the frantic perilous energy up and honestly makes you feel like you're playing a movie rather than a video game, in my humble opinion. I've played through this game multiple times since its release and this theme does not ever get old. This game should be recognised for its soundtrack.

DW Niche Writing/Recommendation Roundup
Did one of these last year, about six months ago now (more as an ad for my Amended Lives series back then) but figured I should do one again, this time more general.
First of all, my own stuff. No more Amended Lives so far (I'm working on it but I had other ideas). This time we have.
Robert Banks Stewart Doctor meets Gravity Falls
Douglas Camfield Doctor meets Terraria Calamity Mod
Both from a vague DW crossover series idea I had, one that I don't necessarily intend to fully develop but still one I wanted to explore a little.
Then thirdly there's Skyfall
My first full Herrick Doctor story, featuring the return of regenerative dissonance Time Lord Yanis, an attempt to create a character with the condition that isn't just a bunch of cliche 'evil split personality' tropes.
Previously in their fourth incarnation in Conspiracy of Censeron, now returning for their regeneration into their sixth incarnation. Featuring copious EDA references, Raptors, Eldritch Time Lords, lesbians and Tecteun and Rassilon both being awful. (TW: Ableism and predatory animal hunting typical violence).
Speaking of Eldritch Time Lords I also contributed to @eldritchdimensionality with a Holmes Doctor story 'Broken'. Also check the whole thing out, as the other stories in the first issue are fantastic.
Then lastly we have Architects of a Failed World, at the Cheshire House, a part of the Castaways of Ishiok series.
In addition to my own work I also have some recommendations, starting with the Cheshire House (@thecheshirehouse) which has had a lot of stories since I last recommended them. Particularly the start of @theangelshavethephonebox's Zadellin series with 0rigins and the continuation of Plum Pudding's Disparate Minds series. Highly recommend.
Next up, Forgotten Lives Fanfiction. First up with @the-last-teabender, creator of the Hinchcliffe Doctor's contribution to Doctor Who day.
And following up on this is Chris Wing, writer of Hope Springs's Christmas Special.
In addition to this there's the start of the Salem Doctor series, based on my original concept, which itself was based off Jonathan Morris's suggestion, and conceptualized collectively on the Forgotten Lives server as a community characterbuilding project. @thesalemdoctor's incarnation
And that's all for the moment. If you choose to read, or even if you don't read mine but choose to check out one of the recommendations. Thank you.
Till next time. Thien Valdram.

Ancients Awakened Pre-Hardmode
Ancients Awakened was a Terraria mod with a massive scope, like calamity level of scope. I had high hopes. The concepts seemed awesome, the soundtrack went hard AF and the designs were fire. Annoyingly, as is so common, the lead developer was a creep and half the dev team at once. All the awesome music, spritework and more was crushed until one dev stepped up to take back control. I'm not sure which of these are sill in the mod or what the lore or direction is but I hope these designs, concepts and sprites aren't wasted. The old wiki on terraria mods wiki still has some incomplete old info if you're interested but I think they have their own fandom page or .gg wiki. If anyone wants to tell me about the state of the mod or the fate of these goobers please do tell this was all I did during the pandemic.
Tumblr media
The mushroom monarch and feudal fungus were a pair of early-game msuhroom themed bosses. Like king slime tier, you would fight them seperately. There was also a pre-hardmode red msuhroom biome and truffle for it. Mushroom monarch is coming back in the restored version.
Tumblr media
Truffle toad was a largely redundant boss who you would fight post eye of cthulhu. Fandom says it's "being overhauled in a remake" so...
Tumblr media
the old lore says that the grips of chaos are two quarters of a chaos wizard's soul split in half by (I think) Terra, dryad queen or smth. They are back in the remake. You would fight them after the eye of cthulhu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hydra and broodmother are like brain of cthulhu and eater of worlds, fought just after in their respective biomes, the mire and the inferno. They mothered the sisters of discord (you'll see them later) with yamata and akuma, respectively. Hydra has been renamed to swamplurker in the remake and is being reworked. Broodmother is also coming back reworked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Desert Djinn and subzero serpent were a pair of post-skeletron bosses for the desert and ice biome respectively. Desert Djinn is being turned into an NPC for "awakened light" (idk what that is maybe a special gamemode). Subzero serpent is beoming a miniboss for an underground ice biome (think armoured digger from calamity)
Tumblr media
Sagittarius was a pre-wall of flesh boss for the void biome. It'd being replaced with Drone Dispensory Delta in the remake but is staying as a miniboss. Also I though I had a better version of this one but nevermind I might redraw it or draw the replacement when it gets spritework.
OK thats pre-harmode done please tell me what's going on with this mod I need to know.

In love with the hilariously instantaneous Fucked Around & Found Out incident I just experienced during my latest multi-modded Terraria playthru w/Calamity included where I Felt The Hubris Overtake me after cutting through 2-3 other mods's bosses+Dragonfolly+feel overconfident enough to skip Multiple Calamity Bosses+challenge Yharon immediately instead, only to get bipped out of existence within seconds of summoning him-nothing funnier+more humbling

• The Pellet System - Part Three
• Introduction
If you don't remember, in the previous part of this little "series" of changing the pellet system, I created some simple UI at the bottom of the screen to show what pellet the player is currently using, as well as the two pellets next to that pellet in the player's inventory.
While this was interesting to try and figure out, It didn't end up working very well (in my opinion) and, with more and more pellets, it just ended up getting more confusing. So, I re-did it again.
• What I Did
As is with every time I re-write something, I completely removed the old code and its references from my game. I find that keeping in old bits of code you think might be useful can hinder your ability to make something new and potentially even better, which is why I always do it: keeping old code will only make your new code messier.
I then re-designed the inventory. I wanted the player to always be able to see what pellets they have, and how many of them they have, so I went with a Minecraft / Stardew Valley / Terraria - style inventory / hot bar, but on the side of the screen instead:
Tumblr media
Minecraft's hotbar - 9 rows, on the bottom of the screen, quite easy to navigate and see - easily customizable for mods etc...
Tumblr media
Terraria's hotbar - top left of the screen, opens down into the extended menu shown - does not obstruct gameplay - similar to Minecraft's.
Tumblr media
Stardew Valley's hot bar. Either on the left of the screen or on the bottom. Similar to the others but with more inventory slots. You can only select slots with items in them.
These three games both have quite good inventories / hot bars and, while they are quite similar, they all do something slightly different that works well for their own games.
In my game, you need to easily see what pellets you have, without it taking up much of the screen, as well as it needing to be easily modular due to the game being split-screen and having varying screen-sizes.
So, here's the idea: You have a hot bar on the side of your screen which dynamically changes size to fit every different pellet, along with a counter at the bottom left of each icon to show how many the player has. It'll be on the left of the screen so that it stays out of the way, while allowing me to easily add more UI elements without taking up too much of the screen or having to completely re-arrange the screen.
Tumblr media
With the three pellets I have so far. It feels a little lop-sided at the moment, but I have plans for the right side of the screen. Also, the lop-sidedness feeling is mitigated in split-screen.
Tumblr media
Due to a little glitch, I'm able to show that the system can dynamically scale to fit almost any number of pellets:
Tumblr media
• How I Did It
Surprisingly, this new system is much simpler than the previous one, despite looking more complex at first.
First off, I created an area in which the icons can fill up:
Tumblr media
The "Vertical Layout Group" makes all the objects' children order themselves in a vertical grid, Unity's "Horizontal Layout Group" does the same thing, but horizontally, which would make it look more like Minecraft, or any of the other games I showed. Next, the "Content Size Fitter" makes sure the object It's applied to scales to fit the size of its children, which is how there's that lighter box around all the slots.
I then created an "Inventory Icon" which is an object with an image and text, the text being for showing how many of that pellet there are in the player's inventory:
Tumblr media
The "Inventory Icon" script is basically just a container for the icon's data, so I can easily reference it.
Now for the programming part.
The player already has a list of "Inventory Slots", which is every type of pellet the player has, along with its count. I can then use a Dictionary with a key of inventory slots and a value of inventory icons. Dictionaries basically allow me to dynamically assign two completely different things to each other, in my example, every inventory slot the player has, has a corresponding inventory icon on the UI.
It doesn't just do this by default though, so I created this little bit of code:
Tumblr media
I loop through every inventory slot in the player's inventory and check if there's already an icon for that slot, if there isn't, I use this code to create one:
Tumblr media
This creates a new icon in the scene, sets its sprite to the pellet's icon, default's its count to one and adds it to the dictionary, assigned to that specific slot.
Then, if the player already has an icon for that slot, I update it's counter to be the same as the one in the player's inventory, so the player doesn't have to select the specific pellet in order to see what they have, unlike the previous method.
• Other people's work
My game is slightly more unique compared to most first-person shooters as you are able to hold and pick whatever "ammo" you want at any time, whereas most other games generally only let you use one weapon at a time, either with their own ammo or with a single ammo, which is why I showed games like Minecraft in the beginning, as their system is much closer to mine.
By this, I mean the ammo in most first person shooters is not a fundementally different thing that physically changes the gameplay, that is for the gun to do. In my game, the different pellets all have different features. While games can have different types of ammunition, they are generally for different types of gun only, and do not change the fundemental "idea" of the gun.
Nevertheless, there's a website that lets you see any game's UI for reference:
Using this, I can look at games with the "shooter" tag, and see how they did certain aspects of their UI.
From what I've seen, the health bar system I've used is pretty standard, with a long bar showing the percentage of health left. Sometimes they'll have a number next to them, but most of the time it's not needed.
Just as mine is, most of the UI is also placed to the side of the screen, with the exceptions being around the borders, leaving the screen open. Perhaps my UI would look better on the bottom or top of the screen, as (especially with two players) the UI can get very messy as it doesn't scale properly.

ain't no better feeling then being bored as hell because one of the mods you were using for a terraria run updated with a bug so awful exactly 0 npcs will spawn naturally, which basically deletes the progression, and you can't disable it because it made structures in your world, so that'd break the world and/or corrupt it. (it's happened to me before) then, upon realizing it'll probably take a month for the mod to update and fix even though this is a big problem, you go to the github to just get the previous version, and install it
Tumblr media
only to be greeted by the fact that your tmodloader version, the publicly available stable version, is too old for the mod to run. so you have to use a possibly buggier beta version. fantastic, more crashing or bugs, but whatever
then, after you install the beta, you're greeted with: all your saves, gone. and either it's a risk to use all your mods, or you just. can't. (i basically live off the vanilla boss rework mods and will cry if i can't use them. also no boss checklist is actually painful and a detriment to the human condition)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i wish i still could, you know, just back up my files manually and easily when i install mods from the steam workshop, like what i could do with the browser on 1.3, so when something like redemption or split broke i could still be fine!!! but no i guess!!!!
(btw you can figure out what game is what in file manager by the numbers in the steam workshop files, just look at their store page url numbers. then, mods are found by their page url id numbers but, even though i found tmodloader's files, not every mod shows up in them. very cool steam. very cool.)
anyway, the terraria metroid mod is either bugged or has some new conflict, for anyone interested
