If corporations are legally people, we should legally be allowed to give them the death penalty. worth noting: the quote about one second autopilot shutoff is from 2022
here's the actual 2022 report
"The agency’s analysis of these sixteen subject first responder and road maintenance vehicle crashes indicated that Forward Collision Warnings (FCW) activated in the majority of incidents immediately prior to impact and that subsequent Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) intervened in approximately half of the collisions. On average in these crashes, Autopilot aborted vehicle control less than one second prior to the first impact. "All subject crashes occurred on controlled-access highways. Where incident video was available, the approach to the first responder scene would have been visible to the driver an average of 8 seconds leading up to impact. Additional forensic data available for eleven of the collisions indicated that no drivers took evasive action between 2-5 seconds prior to impact, and the vehicle reported all had their hands on the steering wheel leading up to the impact. However, most drivers appeared to comply with the subject vehicle driver engagement system as evidenced by the hands-on wheel detection and nine of eleven vehicles exhibiting no driver engagement visual or chime alerts until the last minute preceding the collision (four of these exhibited no visual or chime alerts at all during the final Autopilot use cycle)."
The fact that Tesla autopilots abort self driving 1 second before a crash so the company can state “self driving wasn’t active during the collision” should be grounds to dismantle the entire company.
Like, seriously, if you’re making 4000 pound death machines, and you program this shit to work on a technicality? Your company should be dismantled. Gone. No recourse. Just terrible shit dude

How does Tesla’s Full Self Driving compare to other best self-driving cars in 2025?
As of 2025, Tesla’s Full Self Driving remains one of the most discussed and controversial options in the self-driving car market. While Tesla leads in public data collection and AI development, competitors like Waymo and Cruise offer more mature robotaxi services in controlled environments.
When comparing Tesla FSD with the best self-driving cars in 2025, Tesla stands out for its software updates and widespread availability. However, others may excel in terms of safety, precision, or regulatory compliance. The “best” system may vary based on whether you're looking for personal use or commercial operation.

https://www.autoblog.com/autonomous/hands-free-showdown-bluecruise-super-cruise-autopilot-which-one-owns-the-highway
Sensor and Software Breakdown
BlueCruise relies on forward cameras plus infrared driver-monitoring. It restricts hands-free to designated “Blue Zones” (Ford publishes region maps). Eye-tracking ensures the driver watches the road.
Super Cruise combines high-definition lidar-scanned maps with radar and camera data. An infrared sensor checks head position; hands off feels secure until map data detects new construction or unclear markings.
Autopilot (FSD Beta) uses a vision-only neural-net stack. It operates beyond geofenced highways but lacks the predictive map layer. Updates arrive over-the-air frequently, altering the cars behavior unpredictably.
Hands-Free Safety: Crash Counts and Fatalities Compared
GM’s Super Cruise boasts over 160 million accident-free miles with no publicly documented fatal crashes under its engagement . Ford’s BlueCruise has been implicated in approximately 32 reported crashes under NHTSA review, including two fatal collisions in Mustang Mach-E vehicles resulting in three deaths (NHTSA ODI, 2024) . Tesla’s Autopilot has been involved in 956 reported crashes reviewed by NHTSA and is linked to 51 reported fatalities to date (NHTSA EA22-002, 2024).
How They Rank
Ford’s BlueCruise tops Consumer Reports’ latest active driving assistance tests with 84 points; GM’s Super Cruise follows at 75; Tesla’s Autopilot lands at 61. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety assigns BlueCruise the strongest safeguard ratings, Super Cruise middling marks, and Autopilot a lower tier (IIHS, 2023). Meanwhile, NHTSA’s EA22-002 report links several Autopilot overrides to incidents when drivers regained control under glare or faded lane lines.

@autobot-bumblebee I think you're a little confused. As far as I'm aware, Tesla has never sold an all-wheel drive vehicle with its second motor artificially disabled. They have, however, sold many vehicles with artificially software locked battery packs. They've done it countless times through the years, but I'll use the Model S from 2016/17 as an example.
Basically, back then, Tesla named their vehicle trims after the size of their batteries. The Tesla Model S's base trim was the 60 trim, while its mid-trim was the 75 trim. The problem? The 60 trim didn't actually exist. It was IDENTICAL to the 75 trim. The 60 trim HAD a 75 kWh battery pack, however, Tesla used software to artificially limit it to 60 kWh. The 60-trim was sold at a lower price, and now, retroactively, they offer to unlock that 15 kWh difference if you pay a flat fee. They've done this multiple times throughout the years. In fact, not only did they do it in 2012 when the Model S first launched, but they also just recently discontinued a trim on the current Model S which did the exact same thing.
They even use this artificial battery limiting to push their savior complex. Anytime a hurricane rolls through the south, Tesla will "out of the kindness of their hearts" unlock the full capacity of batteries that have artificial locks in place in order to allow people to evacuate more efficiently. Once the disaster has passed, they'll re-lock all of the batteries.
The way you phrased that, however, leads me to believe you're thinking about Tesla's autopilot "upgrade" (which is often abbreviated as AP.) In order to equip a Tesla with their "Full-Self Driving" package, it costs $15,000. This price has artificially increased throughout the years as Musk attempts (and fails) to make Teslas appreciating assets.
Because a few years ago Musk was artificially jacking the price up so frequently, a lot of Tesla's customers pointed out that it was unfair if they bought it at a cheaper price, totaled their car, and then had to repay the higher price, despite being an early adopter. A lot of them wanted it so that Full-Self Driving was attached to their Tesla account, rather than the car itself. They didn't exactly get this. Basically, if you flat out buy the $15,000 Autopilot Full-Self Driving package, it's permanently tied to your vehicle. However, if you pay the (cheaper) monthly subscription, then it's tied to your account, and when you sell the car, the new owner won't get FSD because it'll transfer to your new car and be removed from the old one. The only way for the new owner to get Full-Self Driving back is to either pay the $15,000 flat fee or pay for the subscription, yourself.
Does Tumblr know that Tesla is removing turn signal stalks and gear shifters from their cars as a “feature.”
They did it with the Model S and X earlier this year, and they’re about to refresh the Model 3 to do the same. Since the Model 3 and Y share about 75% of the same parts, it’s safe to assume it’ll get the same treatment very soon, too. Meaning, 100% of Tesla’s lineup is about to have zero stalks on the steering column.
You activate turn signals via CAPACITIVE touch buttons on the steering wheel, and you don’t shift the car at all. The car decides what gear it thinks you need using AI. You can override it’s “thinking” on the touch screen.
Headlights and windshield wipers are also screen-only now.

Tesla Autopilot is Clever ...Until its not
So the Tesla Autopilot is a clever little piece of software. it uses cameras to keep track of the lanes and a camera to track the vehicle in front. This means that the car will center itself on the lane based on the lane markings and keep a good follow distance. As an added fail safe, when the lane markings are gone it will center the car on the car in front
So with this knowledge, you too can guide Telsas out of their lane and into the shoulder when you reach a section of highway with faded lane markers and their drivers are too engrossed in looking at the phone in their lap with both hands off the wheel. it really is something to see them look up all startled and grab the wheel when their car is no longer where its suppose to be.

Are Tesla's Autopilot features worth it in 2025?
In 2025, Tesla’s Autopilot has matured into a highly useful driver-assist system. It’s especially valuable for those who commute long distances or frequently drive on highways. With features like automatic lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control, Autopilot can reduce driving fatigue significantly.
However, it’s important to remember that Autopilot still requires full driver attention. If you're expecting hands-off driving, you may be disappointed. But as a high-tech enhancement to your driving experience, it's certainly one of the best systems available today.
