Synopsis: Modern AU, Rosinante visiting your hometown in Queensland Australia. He is overwhelmed by the cultural differences, but loves to learn the slang.

I did go a little crazy in the tags, definitely ran away with me a little here.

Could you imagine, though? As an Australian, I can confirm: if it looks like it can kill you, it can kill you. If it looks like it can’t kill you, it absolutely can kill you. Our poor, clumsy man never stood much of a chance, did he?

In this picture, he looks like could be in Bondi, the Gold Coast or Surfers Paradise by the looks of it. I am going to put him in the Queensland region for the sake of the plot. This is how I see it going.

Taking your new friend Donquixote Rosinante to your favorite sights in Surfers Paradise. His eyes widen in wonder, staring at sights that come so naturally to you, but are so out of the norm for him. You are happy to play tourist in your hometown, marveling at the sights as he experiences them for the first time.

Outside of your local McDonalds and picking up a common comfort breakfast food for his adult adoptive son, who elected to remain back at home in the hotel as he adjusts to the time difference, Rosinante’s shriek prompted you to turn to meet him.

“What the hell is that?” he remarks, extending his pointer finger towards the large waste bin adjacent to the doorway.

“Oh, that’s a skip, Corazon. The red is for rubbish,” you continue, pointing at the other bin, “The yellow lid is for recyclables, and the green is for food and biodegradable-.”

“No! The thing with the massive beak!” he shrieks, watching as the dark-head bird pokes its head above the bin. The large hooked beak elevates a half-consumed cheeseburger before it gulps down the burger in a single motion.

“Oh!” you laugh at your blonde friend, clapping a hand over his shoulder, “That’s an ibis. We call them ‘bin chickens’ or ‘tip chooks’ depending on your region. They’re scavengers, they won’t hurt you.”

“A bin chicken, skip bin,” he hums, his brow furrowed in deep thought as he commits the name to memory, “And you call McDonalds ‘Macca’s’, right?”

“That’s right,” you hum your confirmation with a curt nod. He hums in response before ushering you along the pathway towards the hotel.

As you continue walking along the sandy coastline, you notice he’s halted outside a petrol station. A large truck is parked beside the building: checkered blue and white painted on it’s side and large font titled “POLICE” and “0.05: DRUGS”.

“Is this your local law enforcement?” he asks you, tilting his head to the side.

“Yeah, that’s our local booze bus parked next to a divvy van,” you nod in affirmation, “They do regular drug and alcohol testing for drivers to ensure their safety on the road. Weird that they’re outside of a servo, though. Usually they’re on the main roads.” He nods his head and hums.

“Booze bus. Divvy Van,” he looks over to the petrol station, arching his brow high, “Servo?”

“I know, it’s a lot,” you confirm with an apologetic smile, “I promise it gets easier to adapt to the slang the longer you practice.” He nods again.

Passing a local park with a children’s play area, you manage to see your friend David from work, his two children playing together on the looped climbing frames and plastic slide.

“Davo!” you call out to him, waving your unoccupied hand in front of you - considering the other contains a paper bag filled with the fruits of your labor.

“How the bloody hell are’ ya goin’, Darl’?!” his nasally voice cracked to you, “Who’s the fella ya got there with ya?” You smile at him, walking to embrace him.

“This is Rosinante Corazon, the friend I mentioned was visiting from Spain,” you informed him, “How’s the missus back at home? How’s the kids?”

“Mate! Howzit goin’?” he extended his hand out to Rosinante, who placed his hand within and gave it a gentle shake who mumbled a soft ‘pleased to meet you’ in response.

“Ah, and the ankle biters are doin’ great. Givin’ the missus a bit of a reprieve here at the park, tough gig bein’ an ambo driver.” He glanced over his shoulder at his children, ensuring they were safe now they’ve climbed to an elevated height.

“Oh I’m glad she’s managing to take a break. She’s a tough lady,” you nod to him, smiling over at the two children who wave at you while playing with a make-shift telescope.

“Well, I shouldn’t keep you,” he confesses, gesturing down to the brown bag clutched in your hands, “Don’t want that brekky gettin’ cold now, do we?” You laugh at him, waving him off before waving at his children.

Rosinante remained silent, only muttering a few words that stood out to him: “Darl’, fella, mate, missus, ankle biters, ambo driver, brekky,” on a perpetual loop.

“You okay there, Rosi?” you quirk up at him, a soft smile pulling at your cheeks.

“I’m alright, Darl,” he attempted, his voice falling to his nose and emulating the accent he heard moments prior, “Is that a common term of endearment here? ‘Darl’ and ‘mate’? How do you go with gender neutral titles?”

“Both of those titles can be used interchangeably, regardless of gender,” you inform him, “It all depends on context and the way you say it.” he hums again, nodding along and muttering several phrases he learnt. He reaches into the circular cup cardboard and pulls out his coffee and takes a small sip.

Your feet finally carry your way over to the lobby of the hotel where he was staying with Law, his body immediately halting in front of the surf, dive and ski shop. His head cocked to the side, staring at the large, rectangular basket outside the shop. You follow his line of sight, which remained locked on to a large, canvas sign attached to the basket.

“Ah,” you click your tongue, noticing they’re focussed on a common shoe worn in this area, “Do you and Law need a new pair of thongs? I know the bottoms melt a little when the bitumen gets a bit hot.”

“You want me and Law to wear what?” he turned towards you with his eyes wide and jaw dropped. It took a moment for you to understand the miscommunication, your eyes growing wide and your nervous laughter propelling your anxiety further.

“No, no, no, no, no!,” you managed to choke out, “No, we call ‘flip-flops’ ‘thongs’ here. Is that what had you a little confused? A basket full of shoes where you thought lingerie should be?” Rosinante laughed alongside you, shaking his head from side to side.

“You got me,” he chuckled, raising his coffee to his lips once more, “Our differences are quite vast, aren’t they?”

“I suppose they are,” you acknowledge with a shrug and a broad, tight-lipped smile. He hums once again, muttering several phrases as you step into the elevator.

Clicking the button to the appropriate floor, the doors open wide to reveal the carpeted corridor of the hotel room. You offer to hold the coffee tray in your unoccupied hand as Rosinante clumsily attempts to fish out his key-card from his pocket. He thanks you, his hand getting stuck in his pocket as he shimmies his shoulders to break it out.

Finally clutching the key card, he places it in the door and swings it wide to reveal Law sitting on the plush bench beside the large window. His left knee was bent, his right leg extended as he reclined against the window. His gray orbs draw away from watching the gentle crash of waves towards you both as you enter the suite.

Before you had a moment to greet the younger man, Rosinante’s broad grin and best nasally voice interrupted your train of thought. Rosinante gently took the brown paper bag from your hands and offered it to his son.

“Howzit goin’, Darl’! Brought you some Brekky from Maccas!” he walked forwards, thrusting the bag into Law’s hands, “Saw a bin chicken eating some scraps from the red skip, and passed a booze bus outside the servo on the way back.”

Law chose to remain silent, wordlessly taking the brown bag from Rosinante and maintaining unbreaking eye contact. Rosinante took that as his queue to continue relaying his adventure.

“Saw Davo being a good fella at the park with his ankle biters, his missus has been working hard as an ambo driver,” he continued, biting his lip as he attempted to relay the trip back to his absolutely unamused son, “Then we passed a shop on the way up. Was gonna get us a pair of matching thongs for the trip, but thought you would get embarrassed to be matching with your Dad.”

Law’s fingers stuttered their descent into the bag, choosing to take a lengthy breath instead.

“Dad?” Rosinante quirked his head up, turning to look at you over his shoulder. You were doing your best to stifle your laughter by clutching your lip in your palm, “Do you still call parents ‘mum’ and ‘dad’ here? Is there an Aussie term of endearment he could use for me instead?”

“‘Cunt’ comes to mind,” Law murmured, prompting Rosinante to snap his head back over to his son. His heart shattered as Law drew up a hashbrown and began nibbling at its golden exterior.

“L-Law-?” Rosi’s heartbreak was depicted in the quiver in his tone. You walk over to your friend’s side and offer him his forgotten coffee with a smile.

“-Rosinante,” you broke him away from his sorrow with a soft giggle, “‘Cunt’ is also a term of endearment here. Law and I had a little conversation about cultural clashes last night when we were playing cards. You fell asleep early, remember?”

“It is my favorite Australian term of endearment,” Law admitted with a soft hum, reaching up his outstretched hand to wordlessly ask for a coffee, “But your insults are far better. Quite original.”

“Okay, Champ,” you mock Law, passing him his cup of coffee, “Big words coming from a guy with a face like a smashed crab.”

“Coming from a Drongo with the personality of a dropped meat pie,” Law smirked in return, taking the cup from your hands. Your joint laughter ricocheted from the hotel walls, prompting Rosinante’s prior sour mood to pick back up.

As you all ate your brekky in comfortable silence, you gazed out onto the beach below. Law followed your eyes, looping at the large swell of the waves. The choppy waves crashed against the golden waves, the vendors beginning to set up their canopies to sell their wares along the boardwalk.

“You did well, Rosinante,” you complimented the tall, blonde man, “Using our words in the appropriate context, I mean.” Rosinante smiled at you, placing his paper rubbish in the brown paper bag.

“Thank you, Mate,” he said with a soft wink, “I appreciate the praise for my efforts.”

“No wakkas, makka,” you smile at him with a shrug. Both men quip their head up, their ears pricking and confusion written on their face.

“We’ll get into that later, I guess,” you chuckle at the two of them as their confusion deepens.

The large Australian crowd began to take out their surf and boogie boards, set up nets for volleyball, and their wickets for beach cricket. The variety of populus below in various designs bathers, placing sunscreen on their bodies to protect from the deadly UV rays.

“Beach day?” you ask them, smile drawing up over your features once more.

“Beach day,” Rosinante nods in confirmation, excited to learn more slang and cultural differences as the day broadens its rays over the oceanic backdrop.

Turkish defense company tests high-tech EFSA radar that improves the country's combat aircraft

Turkey recently tested the nationally developed AESA radar, ASELSAN's MURAD, which recently conducted its first flight with an F-16 ÖZGÜR warplane.

“ASELSAN's AESA National Aircraft Nose Radar made its first flight with the F-16 ÖZGÜR platform. It will provide great capacity gains to our aircraft with simultaneous air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, detection/tracking of multiple targets, missile orientation beyond visual range, high-resolution ground images and electronic warfare functions,” the company confirmed in a social media post.

This demonstration provided data for additional testing and development of the radar system.

Future plans for MURAD include continuous testing and integration on various platforms, such as Bayraktar AKINCI TIHA, as well as other aerial platforms such as KIZILELMA, KAAN, HÜRJET, ANKA III, AKINCI and F-16.

According to the President of the Presidential Defense Industry, Prof. Haluk GÖRGÜN, the integration of the AESA radar will align the F-16 ÖZGÜR with the standards of generation 4.5 aircraft. In addition, radar integration could improve the capabilities of other platforms such as KAAN and combat UAVs, providing them with additional functionality and low visibility features.

Aselsan CEO Ahmet Akyol highlighted the versatility of AESA technology, emphasizing its application in various domains, including air, land and sea.

He noted that the internal development of Aselsan's EASA radar systems allows Turkey to maintain full control over technology and data, ensuring the highest level of security and capabilities.

The size of the global market for the combat aircraft equipped with AESA radar is estimated at $5 billion annually, with ongoing export negotiations positioning Aselsan radars as key actors in the global aerospace market.

The ÖZGÜR Project aims to modernize F-16 Block 30 warplanes with domestic avionics and software, including the AESA National Radar. This initiative is expected to align the capabilities of the F-16 ÖZGÜR aircraft with those of the F-16 Block 70 fighters, ensuring uniformity and effectiveness throughout the fleet.

The main functions and capabilities of the EFSA National Radar include long-range search, multiple target tracking, detection and tracking of terrestrial targets, weather detection, automatic target detection and electronic attack.

No charges have been laid against any officers involved.

- Australia remains the only Commonwealth country to not have a treaty with its Indigenous population, despite promises to the contrary. A treaty was promised BY 1990 - thirty years later, and they are still waiting. In fact, our constitution still allows state to disqualify people from voting in elections on account of their race.

- Bushfires at the end of 2019/beginning of 2020, mostly in rural and remote areas, threatened the lives and livelihood of our citizens and native flora and fauna. Our Prime Minister cut funding to rural fire services (who exclusively service our rural and remote communities) and fucked off to Hawaii for a holiday while firefighters died in action. Hence, I Hope Scott’s House Burns Down (please click the link, it’s an amazing song, honestly)

- This country always was and always will be Aboriginal land. For over 200 years, the rightful owners of this land have been fighting back against the invasion and theft of their land. Every year, we have a “national holiday” to commemorate colonial invasion.

- Aboriginal peoples have been actively fighting destruction of their land to make way for coal mines for years. Earlier this year, Rio Tinto blew up Juukan Gorge for this purpose, despite archaeological digs finding out that the sight was twice as old as previously thought (46000 years old!!!!), and was full of incredible, significant objects. Included in this was evidence of human occupation during the last ice age!!!!, and a plait of human hair that was 4000 years old, made from the hair of multiple people, which DNA testing proved belonged to the DIRECT ancestors of the Indigenous peoples still living there today. The legislation intended to protect the traditional owners of the land failed them - and Juukan Gorge was blown up along with another sacred site. Now, another company wants to do the same in New South Wales. Shenhua want to destroy land sacred to the Gomeroi people. Destruction of this site will disturb the physical bodies (as well as the spirits) of Indigenous ancestors, displace already native wildlife - most notably koalas, whose population was severely impacted by bushfires just six months ago - and will threaten and very likely contaminate the water supply to towns and farmland nearby. To add insult to injury, Australian tax payers have paid for this twofold - our government invested $226,000,000 while Shenhua (and many other mining companies) investments and stock are owned and traded by the companies who hold our superannuation (retirement) funds. When speaking about the issue, Environment Minister Sussan Ley said the economic benefits outweighed the “loss of heritage value”.

- Adani is another mining company that Indigenous peoples had been fighting for nine years until last year, when Adani received their final approvals to destroy even more sacred land (this time in North Queensland) with, yet again, a whole host of environmental impacts that threaten the livelihoods of the people, flora and fauna - including the Great Barrier Reef, which is both an incredible natural treasure with immense biodiversity already threatens by climate change AND generates tourism for North Queensland, without which the area will suffer massive economic troubles. We lost this fight, despite our efforts.

- The Aborginal flag is copyrighted by a white-owned business, who actively profits off the usage and reproduction of a national emblem. They serve cease and desist notices to Aboriginal-owned brands for using their own flag, while the Australian national flag can be used for commercial purposes with no formal permission. Worse yet, our government could buy the copyright licensing for the flag in order to even the playing field - and they just choose not to.

- Warriors of Aboriginal Resistance are a political organisation fighting all over Australia for the rights and dignities of the Indigenous peoples. They are the group responsible for the Australian BLM protests and many, many more, Australia-wide.

Australia's first unmanned aerial combat vehicle will be named "Ghost Bat"

The first unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) built in Australia successfully completed its test flights and was officially named at a ceremony at RAAF Base in Amberley.

Formerly referred to as a 'Loyal Wingman' UAV, the six UCAVs will be commonly known as MQ-28A Ghost Bat, as announced by Australian Defense Minister Peter Dutton on Monday.

“As air warfare becomes more complex and sophisticated, remotely piloted aircraft and other unmanned platforms are becoming increasingly vital assets for modern armed forces,” Minister Dutton said.

“Our partnership with Boeing successfully designed, manufactured and flew the first military combat aircraft built in Australia in 50 years.

“This new capacity allows us to introduce more mass into the battle space. An opposing aircraft would not only have to deal with our manned capacity, but also with the number of unmanned aircraft, such as the MQ-28A Ghost Bat.

“The three series of test flights were successful and with a range of 3,700 kilometers, complement our deterrent goal of keeping the strengths and infrastructure of a potential opponent at risk at a greater distance.”

Since 2017, the government has invested more than 150 million Australian dollars to support the joint venture between the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Boeing Defense Australia to deliver an air system that will join existing air combat aircraft and carry out air combat, reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

The project is also expected to generate greater manufacturing opportunities in Queensland and Australia, as production increases in the coming years. In November last year, Boeing Australia revealed that work on five of the six Ghost Bat aircraft for the Royal Australian Air Force was underway.

The Chief of Capacity of the Royal Australian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Robert Denney, said that the new name had a special meaning for the aircraft.

“The selection of the new common name Ghost Bat is an important milestone in our continued advancement of this critical capacity for the RAAF, and this unique name aligns well with the intention of the aircraft.

“Ghost Bat reflects the intended mission and operational capabilities of the aircraft. A ghost bat is an Australian hunter who uses sophisticated multispectral sensors to detect, hunt and kill prey in the air and in the ground.

"They come together in large numbers to confuse and overwhelm their opponents and are natives of Australia," said Air Vice Marshal Denney.

The days on set were long and your nights were even longer. You still couldn’t believe that Tamia had returned to Queensland and that Ben took her back. It was shocking to you especially after the way things ended with them and the new friendship that he started with you. Although you wanted to only build a friendship with Ben at this point, your feelings for him were stronger than you realized. Losing him was something that you didn’t anticipate. The emptiness that you felt in your heart was a feeling that you had never felt before. There were too many unexplained questions that you needed answers to. You didn’t want to bother Ben, but you needed answers in order to move on with your life.

“There has to be a logical explanation as to why he’d take her back, Y/N.”

You fiddle though your scripts, trying to multitask while speaking to Jackie, but it wasn’t working today.

“I knew they had unfinished business, Jack. Maybe he’s still in love with her.” You say, thinking back to your last conversation with Ben as you shared your first kiss.

“That’s not true, Y/N. If he wanted her, then they would have never broken up in the first place. I think something’s up.”

“Something like what?”

“I don’t know, but it all sounds weird to me. He told you it was complicated. How complicated can love be?”

“They just have a complicated relationship, Jack. Maybe that’s what Ben wants-- complicated.”

Jackie sighs.

“I’m not buying it. That man loves you, Y/N. Tamia has a hold on him and I just don’t know what it is.”

“Well, in any case, he made his decision and I’m moving on. Maybe he’s frustrated that I made him wait before jumping into a relationship so quickly?”

“That’s not it, chickie. We need to get to the bottom of the issue. Can I ask you something?”

“Yes, what?”

“Do you think you’re in love with Ben?”

You sat there in your apartment, thinking about the way Ben made you feel in just the short time that you’ve known him. You’ve never felt this way for anyone before. Could it be love?

“I don’t know Jack, I mean, I do feel exceptionally happy when I see him. I can’t breathe when I think about being away from him. He gives me butterflies in my stomach that continue to flutter twenty-four/seven with every thought of him. My heart skips a beat every time he smiles, every time he holds my hand, every time he looks at me.”

Jackie smiles.

“Oh girl, you’ve got it bad…..you’re in love.”

Your heart melts at the thought.

“Am I in love with Ben Barnes?” You ask yourself.

“Y/N, you still there?”

“Oh yes, sorry.”

“You’re in love my friend…and I say your love is worth fighting for. So let’s fight to get your man back!” Jackie says in excitement.

This is why Jackie was your best friend. She always knew how to comfort you in any situation. Your heart was hurting and you needed her support more now than ever.

“Ok, that’s a wrap. Good work team. We’ll begin filming the final scenes tomorrow evening.” Michael says, taking off his head phones. You made such great progress with your first filmed scene that Michael decided to keep you on as his assistant producer, which blew you away. Despite what was going on in your personal life with Ben, you were happy that your internship and career were moving in a very positive direction.

You took out the last of the scripts from your locker, reading the lines that you wanted to revise for the next scene. You continue walking while looking down when you felt yourself being pushed down to the ground.

“Oooh..….I’m so sorry Y/N. Let me help you up.” Ben says, bending down to lend you a hand.

You were stunned to see Ben. It had been several weeks since you last saw one another this closely. Although you saw one another each day on set, you made it a point to avoid him whenever possible.

“I’m fine…really..” you say, but being in Ben’s presence just made you want to cry.

You gather your scattered notes and begin to walk away hastily, until Ben grabs hold of your arm.

“Y/N….please…..don’t walk away from me.”

You stop, but you won’t look at Ben. You could feel his eyes on you, drinking in every part of you.

“Just please Y/N….let me talk to you for a few minutes.”

You no longer resist pulling away from Ben and turn to face him, although you looked down at the ground.

Ben lifts your chin to face him, his fingers gently brushing across your beautiful face.

“Ben…please.” You say in a whisper.

Ben continues looking at you with such passion and hurt in his eyes. You could see that his eyes were beginning to fill with tears, and you turn away because you could feel your eyes watering too.

Ben comes from behind you and hugs you tightly, tears falling down his cheeks and onto your soft mane.

You both began to cry and you hold Ben’s arms so tightly, eventually turning to face him, burying your head into his chest.

“Y/N…..I’m so sorry…..I never meant to hurt you…..” Ben says, pulling himself from you so that he could look you directly in the eyes.

“But why Ben? Why would you begin building a friendship with me if your intentions were to go back to Tamia?”

“Don’t you see, Y/N? Those weren’t my intentions.” Ben says, caressing his thump across your jaw.

“Is it me? Are you angry because I didn’t want to jump into a relationship with you right away?” You say, still sobbing.

“No…that’s not it at all. Y/N, you’re perfect. You are everything that I want and more. I can be myself when I am with you, I don’t care if the world knows how much I love you. I don’t care if..”

You pause and a bit shocked by Ben words.

“Did you just say that you love me?” You interrupt, wiping your tears away.

Ben smiles. Of course he loves you, more than anything in this universe.

“Yes, Y/N. I love you….soo much. I never meant to hurt you.”

You didn’t know how to respond. You thought about Jackie’s question earlier and contemplated telling Ben your feelings too. But perhaps it wasn’t the right time, especially since he has unfinished business with Tamia.

“Ben….I think we’re just being emotional right now because we have gotten very close over the past month…but you clearly love Tamia, because if you didn’t, then you wouldn’t have chosen her over me.”

Ben eyes are watery again.

“It’s not that simple, Y/N. I can’t leave her right now…it’s my responsibility to stay with her because I got her into this mess.”

Your heart is pounding now at this point.

“What is it Ben? What’s keeping you with her?” You ask, almost afraid of Ben’s response.

“Let’s go somewhere and talk.” Ben says, holding your hand as you make your way to an empty spot off set.

You take a seat and Ben follows, running his hands through his hair as he holds his head down. You knew something wasn’t right with Ben and this entire situation.

“So what’s going on?” You ask, more calm and willing to take whatever Ben had to say.

Ben exhales before speaking.

“Tamia’s pregnant.”

You close your eyes in dismay, as you felt your heart sink to the floor.

“I had her come here so that I could see the test results and do another test here. She thinks she is about 8 weeks along. I didn’t believe she was pregnant at first given all that we’ve been through, but we’ve taken several tests and they are all positive. We have our first doctor appointment next week.”

You sigh, still trying to find the right words to say. Should you congratulate him or walk away? The bigger person in you decided to do the right thing.

“Well…congratulations Ben.” You say.

“Y/N…I’ll say it over and over…I never meant to hurt you. I would never do anything to hurt you…ever….”

You knew that Ben was telling the truth. But it still doesn’t change the fact that he has a baby on the way.

“…but I have to do the responsible thing and stay with her. I don’t want to, I don’t like it, but I don’t want to raise our child in a broken home. I would make that sacrifice for my child.”

Part of you wanted to break down and cry, because you could see yourself having that life with Ben. On the other hand, you were proud of Ben for telling you what was going on, and also proud of him for telling you the truth.

“I understand, Ben.” You say. “I think you are a wonderful person with so many special qualities. I know you’ll make a great father.”

Ben looks at you, wanting to hold you so badly.

“Y/N, I love you. I wish I could have this life with you.” Ben says, moving closer to you.

You feel the butterflies awakening in your tummy.

Ben cups your face and brushes your hair back behind your ears. You hold your head down slightly as a sudden shyness came over you.

“Y/N…please…look at me.” Ben begs.

Your beautiful sparkly eyes make their way to Ben’s dark orbs, which were a bit swollen from crying.

His eyes become more hooded as he whispers.

“I love you so much.”

You close your eyes and part your lips before speaking in a whisper.

“I love you too.”

Ben’s thumb brushes across your lips, his lips slightly parted. His lips slowly brush over yours, so softly. His lips continue grazing over yours until you could no longer resist his touch, giving in fully to the kiss. You kiss each other zealously, tasting the sweet flavors of his lips as he did yours. His tongue begs for entry, and you oblige. The kiss deepens and Ben’s tongue begins to explore every inch of your inner corridors. Your tongues are passionately clashing against one another and you’re sucking on each other’s lips so fervently. Ben places his arms around your back and you run your fingers through his soft locks. You were near the beach and the sun was setting behind you, setting the mood. You continue kissing each other passionately as soft moans and grunts escaped you both. Ben slowly laid you down and deepened the kiss even further, sending you almost to a point of no return. Ben begins caressing your body while you both take in the crashing waves against the shore.

After engaging in the most passionate kiss that you’ve ever experienced, Ben’s cell phone beeps with a text message, and you knew exactly who it was from. In any other situation, you would have felt terrible for kissing a man that was already taken. But in the case, you didn’t. You loved Ben and felt the sudden urge to fight for him, but you just had to wait for the right time.

Ben slowly breaks the kiss and sits you up. You both smile and he caresses your face.

“Look, Y/N. I don’t know what my future holds with Tamia, but all I know is that I will be there to raise my child with her. I love you more than anything, but I also don’t expect you to wait until I figure things out…that wouldn’t be fair to you.”

“I understand Ben….you have some huge life changes ahead. I don’t want things to end on a bad note between us. But I do think that it is best if we don’t have any contact personally, only professionally.”

Ben exhales, as a sad look spread across his face.

“I understand….but know that my love for you will never change.”

You smile. How can someone be so perfectly precious?

“I know….I love you too, Ben.”

Ben’s heart is beaming with love, yet with so much pain. Just hearing you say those three words was enough for him to end things with Tamia at this second, but he knew that he had to make a responsible decision.

Letting you go was the hardest thing that Ben had ever done in his life. He never knew that he could feel a love so pure, so natural, and so peaceful. He still had hope that you would someday be together, but he just didn’t know how or when.

“She’s PREGNANT?!? WHAT?!?!” Jackie yells, nearly falling out of her chair.

“Yes, Ben told me today.” You say, multitasking while writing scripts, cooking and chatting with your bestie.

“Have they seen a doctor? Did they confirm that she’s really pregnant?” Jackie asks, still in shock.

“Not yet, but she’s taken 20 home pregnancy tests, which were all positive. So, she’s preggo Jack.”

“How does Ben know it’s his baby?”

“Tamia has been with Ben for over two years, I am quite sure it is his baby.”

“Such a bummer…I am really sorry honey. I know he doesn’t expect you to wait. I just wish things weren’t this way.”

“Me too, Jack. But there is nothing I can do at this point but bury myself into work. I’ll get over it…it’ll just take time.”

Jackie shakes her head.

“You just don’t ‘get over’ someone you truly love, Y/N.”

The sixth sign

You suddenly become distracted in a magazine that you were reading from the night before about an Australian actress who became pregnant by her bodyguard. You become so engaged in the article because it read that five years after the actresses son was born, it was discovered that her husband was not the father of the child.

“How could someone be so cruel and live with such a devastating lie?” You thought to yourself.

You freeze. You suddenly remember Tamia talking about a guy in London who was a good friend of hers when she stayed at your apartment. She mentioned that this guy was always there for her during her time of need. You weren’t quite sure what that meant, but something in your heart felt odd about that situation.

“Jack…..Jackie…..it’s not his baby….”

Jackie raises one eyebrow.

“Huuuhh? He just told you that she’s pregnant. What do you mean, Y/N?”

“It’s not his baby!”

“How on earth do you suppose? Was she impregnated by Jesus?” Jackie says giggling.

“No silly. I remember her talking about a guy that she considered a close friend whenever she needed comfort. She said Ben never liked this guy and felt threatened by him.”

“That doesn’t sound like a characteristic of Ben. Why would he be insecure about this guy? Do you think Tamia cheated on Ben?”

“I don’t know for certain, but based on what she told me, it’s a strong possibility.”

“Oh shit…..well, the doctor will be able to predict the time of the pregnancy and date of birth when she has her first sonogram.”

“I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, Jack.”

Jackie has a look of mischief in her eyes that you can feel all the way from Los Angeles.

“Maybe, unless we do our own investigating.”

After you and Jackie spoke, she spent several hours researching Tamia’s relationships on the internet and narrowed it down three guys.

She calls you on the phone and gives you the three names. You recognize one name…John Hamlet. Your heart races as you receive this news. This is the guy that Tamia told you about in her vulnerable state. But how would you reveal this news to Ben when you weren’t certain that she was actually unfaithful to him?

Ben sat on his usual chair that faced the front of your apartment when he returned home from set. He missed you terribly and wanted nothing more than to see and talk to you again. It was hard getting used to being in a relationship with Tamia again, especially now that he really knows what it feels like to love someone unconditionally. Ben needed someone to talk to. Every time he had any doubt in his heart and needed comfort, he always called on the woman who was always in his corner, his mother Tricia.

“Hello darling, how are you doing?” Tricia asks, stirring her tea as she set breakfast on the table for herself and her husband, Thomas.

“Hey mum. I’m ok. I just need someone to talk to.”

Ben’s mother knew when he really needed to talk, in private. She excused herself from the breakfast table and went outside to have a private conversation with her son.

“What’s going on son?”

Ben exhales…..almost not able to speak.

“Ben?”

“I’m here mum….sorry.”

Tricia hears her son sniffling.

“What is it darling?”

Ben cries for a short while, then finally speaks to his mother.

“Tamia’s pregnant mum. We ended our relationship a few months ago and she came back claiming that she’s pregnant. The problem is, I’ve met someone else….someone who I really care about.”

Tricia continues listening.

“Have you seen a doctor son to confirm the pregnancy and father?”

Ben listens to his mother and wonders why she would question the paternity of the baby.

“We have our first appointment tomorrow, but it’s just a sonogram.”

Tricia takes off her glasses and sits back in the patio seat.

“Son, you and Tamia have been on and off for the past 2 years. We’ve loved and accepted her because of you. We supported you when you took her back after she wasn’t faithful to you the first time. I am not accusing her of anything this time around, but please confirm that this baby is really yours before giving up your life. You have your whole life ahead of you with a very promising future dear.”

Ben sighs. He knows that deep in his heart there is a possibility that the baby may not be his based on Tamia’s history. He wanted to believe that Tamia was telling the truth since they moved past that incident that occurred over a year ago.

“I hear you mum.,,,but I doubt that Tamia would do such a thing. We were young and have grown past that incident. I do believe that this child is mine. Unfortunately, the timing couldn’t be worse, because I’ve fallen in love with someone else.”

“Oh darling. Do what your conscious heart tells you son. Whatever you do, I know that I’ve raised you to make the most responsible decision.”

“Thanks mum. I love you.

“I love you too, darling.”

Ben didn’t sleep much the night before. He was really nervous about attending the first doctor appointment in the morning. There was a sense of excitement that crossed his mind about being a father, but the timing of it all and the woman who was carrying the baby just wasn’t the right situation. All Ben thought about was you. All he could think about was finding a way to make you fit into this equation of a mess that was happening in his life. The thought of you possibly being with another man just frustrated Ben to no end. But he had to come to terms with his situation and was planning to support the mother of his child, even if it meant losing you.

Ben and Tamia arrive at Mater Mother’s Hospital for their first sonogram appointment, an exclusive hospital in Queensland for celebrities. There were many other couples in the waiting room, eagerly awaiting to be seen. Tamia was so excited to have her first sonogram appointment with Ben. She wanted nothing more than to start a family with Ben.

“Ms. Edwards?” The nurse called after swinging open the door.

Tamia smiled at Ben and they both rose from their seats and followed the nurse to the doctor’s rooms.

“First baby?” The nurse asks.

Tamia smiles as she holds onto Ben’s arm.

“Yes, but certainly not the last.”

Ben looks the other way.

“Follow me please.”

The nurse seats the couple in the room where there is a small television for the sonogram.

“Please undress from your waist down Ms. Edwards. The doctor will be in to see you momentarily.”

Tamia undresses and smiles at Ben, who seemed to be in another world. Tamia noticed his distant behavior lately, but she thought maybe Ben was nervous about the pregnancy. But there was something else on Ben’s mind that she just couldn’t pin point.

“Ben, what’s wrong?” Tamia demanded.

“What do you mean?”

“You’ve been withdrawn from me since I returned to Queensland. What’s going on with you?”

Ben rolls his eyes. All he thought about day and night was you.

“I’m just anxious to wrap up this film and confirm your pregnancy so we can make plans, that’s all. I’m sorry if I’ve been distant, I just have a lot on my mind.”

Tamia suddenly felt better. Ben always made her feel that way. She held her arms out for Ben to cuddle next to her, and he did.

Ben held Tamia close. He placed his hand on her belly for the first time. He was beginning to feel excited that he would have an offspring. He also still cared very deeply for Tamia, but he did not love her the way he loved you.

“Ben, I really hope our child has a bright future. I know we didn’t plan things to happen this way, but in a way I am glad it did because it brought us back together.”

Ben is silent for a moment before he looks at Tamia.

“I’ll always be here for you and our child Tamia, no matter what.”

Tamia smiles as she holds onto Ben’s strong arms. They both dozed off on the bed until they were awakened by the doctor.

“Hello Mr. and Mrs. Edwards.”

Ben and Tamia glance at one another. They were going to correct her, but why do that now since they would be married eventually anyway.

“I’m Doctor Farrell and I’ll be conducting your sonogram today.”

“Great to meet you, Doctor Farrell.” Tamia says.

Ben stands and shakes her hand.

“Now let’s take a look at your baby.”

The doctor gels Tamia’s belly with warm lubricant and uses an instrument to drive around her belly. She was finally able to spot the baby, which she showed Ben and Tamia on the television screen.

“There’s your baby, growing rapidly.”

Tamia smiles and Ben smiles too. Seeing the baby on the sonogram screen made Tamia’s pregnancy more real. Ben was beginning to feel happy.

The doctor began to take clips of the baby’s body measurements and head.

She had a confused look on her face while taking the measurements.

“Mrs. Edwards, could you please confirm the date of your last menstrual cycle?”

Tamia’s breathing intensified a little.

“Approximately 8 weeks ago, Doctor Farrell.”

“Humm…well, your baby is measuring at the size of a 14 week fetus, at 3 1/2 inches, which is about the size of a lemon and weighing 1 ½ ounces. An 8 week old fetus usually measures about .04 ounces and is the size of a raspberry.”

Tamia begins to get angry.

“Well, maybe there is something wrong with this machine. How accurate are these sonograms anyway?” She grumbles.

“Tammie, calm down.” Ben whispers.

“Our machines are about 99% accurate Mrs. Edwards. We can have another opinion if you’d like, but I show you measuring about 14 weeks along in your pregnancy.”

“Yes, I’d like a second opinion, thank you.” Tamia snarls.

“As you wish, Mrs. Edwards. Please excuse me.”

Doctor Farrell leaves the room. Ben and Tamia sit there in silence.

After a few minutes of waiting, the head Obstetrician, Dr. Alexander, comes into the room.

“Greetings Mr. and Mrs. Edwards. I’d like to take a look at your baby if you don’t mind.”

Doctor Alexander, alongside of Doctor Farrell, views the sonogram again and came back with the same results.

“Uuhh….Mrs. Edwards…it appears that you are a lot further along in your pregnancy than anticipated.” Explains Doctor Alexander.

“I don’t see how that’s possible. My boyfriend is a very tall man as you can see, maybe we’ll just have a large baby.”

“Usually this early on babies don’t grow like that. Your baby’s organs are far more advanced in development than a baby that is 8 weeks along.”

“What are you trying to say, that I’m a liar or something?”

The doctors and Ben look at one another.

“Tammie, please calm down. We can discuss this later.” Ben says, beginning to raise his voice.

Tamia listens and nods her head.

“We wish you both the best. Now you can plan to have your child earlier than expected. Congratulations.”

The doctor prints out the sonogram photo and hands it to Ben.

“Thank you.” Ben says, leading Tamia out of the room as they exited the hospital.

The drive home was silent. Ben clenched his jaw the entire way home, trying to find the right words to say to Tamia. His heart felt this same feeling a year ago when he confronted Tamia about the situation that his mother described, the situation when Tamia cheated on Ben with John Hamlet.

Ben parked the car and he and Tamia sat there in the parking lot for a few moments, still in silence, until Ben finally couldn’t take it any longer.

“It’s his baby isn’t it?”
