I have this weird thing about liking certain character dynamics and their story together but never being able to be seeing them in a sorta romantic light like many fans idk if it's because I'm aro spec or not but its just how I am.
However majorwood is on a line I can't explain
I don't hate them as a romantic pairing but everytime I picture them in a romantic light it's DEFINITELY not healthy which is I think is the appeal to me.
They're both not bad people not in the slightest especially when in a death game it's expected to be manipulative and a bit toxic, but in comparison to other pairs where I can see them in a more positive light at least sometimes majorwood just doesn't click the way for me.
Scott's a loyal dog always at the others back and call despite the pain. Born doomed to die from the start but also not willing too at least not without a fight. Even despite Martyn ditching him session 1 he let's him join which begins the start of a toxic co-depency
Then we have Martyn who bites and growls a wild dog desperate for freedom. His loyalty a small string ready to snap at any moment when deemed necessary. A man ruined by the games and desperate to get what he wants even if it leads to others demise continuing the cycle not ready to break it in fear of loosing what he fought so hard to achieve.
When we look at Scott's sacrifice scene during the chase it just adds on to this fact about the characters. They bring out the worst in each other in way neither are willing to realize, Scott always has a track record of sacrificing himself willing to die by his allies hands in contrast to his enemies and when Martyn appears he already knew what was going to happen and accept his fact. Meanwhile Martyn is also a fascinating when Scott says he needs Martyn to kill him he doesn't hesitate, a friend of mine compared it to the scene where Martyn kills Ren in third life but they're not the same.
Martyn didn't hesitate.
In third life you can see guilt set in for just a moment saying how he doesn't want to do this but going along anyways as Ren insists. However with Scott Martyn does it without question, like he was almost disposable in a way. Think about it both Scott and Ren were people Martyn was planning on betraying from the start however with Ren guilt had always set in stopping him even for a moment when with Scott Martyn never hesitated.
He never hesitated leaving Scott behind in session 1 only returning when he needed a home, he never hesitated in killing Scott when he asked the only thing stopping him was the fact water physics are weird, he never hesitated taking Scotts final life, and Scott was okay with it.
He was okay with all of it, sure he still got third but everytime you think about it Scott was sacrifices himself the most in limited life giving up time like candy. The only thing Scott truly cared about were his teammate his allies, he always put himself below them viewing himself as only a tool.
Neither of them are in the wrong just to make it clear, Martyns only trying to Survive, trying to WIN and manipulation is a common tactic for it to win.
Meanwhile Scott's not perfect either using himself and what he can give as a way to gain allies. From what I recall until the green hunt Scott was pretty neutral with everyone, he was friendly with the neighbors, allied with Cleo and therefore the clockers, he and the bad boys actually had a pretty good with Scott even allowing him to take from bread bridge and the meangills and ties were neighbors and frequently visited one another. even after the hunt he managed to stayed neutral once again using himself and his time as a bargaining chip.
Sure plenty of them were made because of him and Martyns general friendly behavior towards the others but when stuff started getting bad Scott continued on with this behavior.
I don't know their dynamic is so fascinating and complex!! I just personally I like to keep it platonic for the most as I feel it adds more to a story and their characters. If it was more romantic tho I could see it being more one sided than anything on their sides too it'll make sense.
