FNV Quest Mods That Don't Suck
I know I've made modlists before but talk of DLC-sized mods made me want to make another. Big, DLC-sized quest mods are nine times outta ten messy, poorly-made and poorly-written, feel like they should've been fo3 mods, or have numerous other qualities that are detestable to normal people with taste. I've played most of the popular ones and hate nearly all of them. Here are the ones I actually can recommend.
Note: I also highly recommend having a proper modding setup before installing any of these. Everyone and their mother has already recommended the Viva New Vegas guide before because it works and it's beginner-friendly.
Allow me to spare your dash by putting this list under a cut.
"DLC-sized" Quest Mods
Boom to the Moon - A quest where you go to the moon (yes, really) to find out what happened to a man's wife. I promise it's way better than I could possibly describe. Honestly I recommend almost all of Jokerine's mods for her attention to detail and all the cool shit she makes. This quest mod doesn't even end with the moon trip, you'll also get the best-written mod companion I've ever seen. Seriously please give this one a try if nothing else on this list.
Autumn Leaves - A murder mystery in an archival library vault inhabited by Protectrons. Story so good Bethesda stole it to make a fo4 DLC. No combat, no need for weapons or companions. WARNING: if you suck at navigating vaults like I do you may have a bad time finding stuff (there's a walkthrough in the files). Also some of the lines are a bit odd because the author's first language isn't English. Also one character is a bigot in every way possible because he's intentionally designed to be as punchable as possible. Despite all of this it's still easily one of the best quest mods I've ever experienced.
Unfortunately, making quest mods DLC-sized in general leaves ample opportunity for shit to get messy fast, so honestly your best bet for quest mods is smaller scale, vanilla-feeling mods. So while I highly recommend the above mods, I'd recommend the following ones even more for a more seamless experience.
"Vanilla-feeling" Quest Mods
The Collector - A quest given by a broker in which you collect debts from gamblers. Similar to the Atomic Wrangler quest Debt Collector.
Caravan Tournament - Do you suck at Caravan? Skill issue. Play this anyway and tell me how it feels to lose because I'm sure it's just as interesting as winning but I'm too good at Caravan to to see it for myself. If you get good you get to see a tiny Robobrain wearing a hat.
Working On The Chain Gang - A Powder Ganger Quest Mod - Okay, technically this makes a second faction of Powder Gangers that aren't affected by your reputation with the vanilla Powder Gangers (so yes, even if they hate you, you can experience this mod). These new Powder Gangers reorganize themselves into a legitimate faction that blends seamlessly into the Mojave NPC ecosystem.
The Moon Comes Over the Tower - This one is technically cut content, but that just means it's peak vanilla-feel. Restores the rest of the quest where Emily Ortal asks you to bug Mr. House's network in which you actually have to travel to places to do it.
Okay, these ones are silly, but trust me
Among Us But It's Fallout - It's a vault with a murder mystery you get to solve! Memes aside it's honestly really well done and you should try it.
The Hollander Hotel and Casino - For a quest involving a haunted hotel (no jumpscares, don't worry), this one feels a little goofy at times, especially with The Shining references and the guy outside selling nothing but 500 bottles of Sunset Sarsaparilla. But you should give it a try anyway.
Legion Quests
Haven't done a Legion run not because you don't like being a bad guy, but because the Legion route feels lacking? Try some of these.
Legion Quests Expanded - Adds more Legion quests and expands several vanilla quests.
A Golden Opportunity - Legion El Dorado Quest - A quest where the Legion goes in and shuts down the NCR's El Dorado station.
Five Card Ante - A Legion Quest Mod - A quest parallel to Three Card Bounty in which you get to eliminate the NCR's First Recon.
Yes I Would Actually - A Legion Quest Mod - You know how Bitter Springs has three quests you can do for the NCR? Well, now you can do them for the Legion instead. You can even recruit help from the Great Khans to fuck the NCR's shit up.

Freya Mistress of Magick
Tumblr media
Freya or Freyja simply means "lady" in old norse, and is arguably a representation of the original Great Goddess (later known as Frigg) in northern pagan tribes throughout Scandinavia, parts of Europe, and the British Isles. In tales of old she belonged to the Vanir, an elven-like race of elementals and earth spirits, who inhabited the land, sea, and animals. Freya is pure unfettered green energy, and embodies pure love with a warlike fierceness. She is the fertility of the green earth and rich soil... she's fiery, passionate, and the wildest of flowers.
As patron of seidr (sometimes called seith), Freya is the archetypical volva and the very first to practice shamanic northern magic. To know Freya is to become one with the currents and energies in nature, to understand the meaning behind the runes, and unleash the magic within.
The essence of all heartfelt songs come from Freya. She is the passion that drives love, relationships, and soul creations. She is the haunting melody we hear when the wind whistles through iced over trees, and when waves crash against the shore.  She’s also the fury of a mother defending her cubs, and the force that inspires warriors to defend their homeland from those who would do it harm.
Tumblr media
To work with Freya requires you to become one with your natural instincts, and tune into the vibrations within the vast universe. It is often a solitary journey and one that cannot be taught... and is quite different than simply invoking her for matters of the heart. Though receptive to our petitions, wielding her magic is not for beginners as it can blow wide open portals to new perceptions and  rebirths. I feel this is often misrepresented by well meaning practitioners. The essence of her spirit is love… but contrary to what some may believe, that love doesn’t lead to weakness and warm fuzzies... it takes tremendous strength to resonate it and carry the light into the cold and indifferent darkness.
Seidr/Freya’s magic is able to reweave the threads of fate and alter reality. It can respin new threads and undo what has already been woven, through lifetimes of what many call karma. It can also allow one to travel shamanically through various dimensions. Without proper grounding and connection this weaving and shapeshifting can have catastrophic consequences. Humans are not equipped to play “Gods”...  and usually miss the larger picture, due to emotions and unconscious biases. It’s difficult for our beings to hold such power and knowledge, and understand the true meanings we uncover. This is where connecting with nature (the essence of Freya), and maintaining a healthy conscious existence is so vital before entering into this practice.
Tumblr media
If you’re meant to perform seidr, it will come naturally and organically… the pieces of the “how to” puzzle will fall into place, and wisdom will come through instinct and spirit guides. This happens with time, self awareness, and a deep relationship with the planet and all it’s living creatures through Freya’s energy.
There are infinite ways one can connect with Freya, and each relationship is unique and entirely personal. There are however certain plants, animals, colors, and runes associated with her, and studying/working with them can help to deepen your understanding of her energy. If her magic is for you, your journeys with her will likely be never ending, so I don’t believe one should ever limit themselves with specifics... but here is a place to start if you’re just beginning your travels.

I was going to keep this card up my sleeve for the purposes of writing the act 8 intermission, but homestuck as hamlet and fandom as ophelia is resonant. I spilled the beans on twitter so I will spill them here too.
OPHELIA: Good my lord, How does your honour for this many a day? HAMLET: I humbly thank you; well, well, well. OPHELIA: My lord, I have remembrances of yours, That I have longed long to re-deliver; I pray you, now receive them. HAMLET: No, not I; I never gave you aught. OPHELIA: My honour'd lord, you know right well you did; And, with them, words of so sweet breath composed As made the things more rich: their perfume lost, Take these again; for to the noble mind Rich gifts wax poor when givers prove unkind. There, my lord.
Cascade felt to many of us like a promise of the core ethos of a future homestuck rather than the cultural zenith it has become in retrospect. Another work like Cascade is not sustainable in the times we live in, but hauntology has fully settled in and won’t let anything come after without us remembering that beautiful, wonderful thing that happened. Many promises were made back then... many....
Tumblr media
HAMLET: Ha, ha! are you honest? OPHELIA: My lord? HAMLET: Are you fair? OPHELIA: What means your lordship? HAMLET: That if you be honest and fair, your honesty should admit no discourse to your beauty. OPHELIA: Could beauty, my lord, have better commerce than with honesty? HAMLET: Ay, truly; for the power of beauty will sooner transform honesty from what it is to a bawd than the force of honesty can translate beauty into his likeness: this was sometime a paradox, but now the time gives it proof. I did love you once. OPHELIA: Indeed, my lord, you made me believe so. HAMLET: You should not have believed me; for virtue cannot so inoculate our old stock but we shall relish of it: I loved you not. OPHELIA: I was the more deceived.
Language floats about on twitter nowadays about how it truly is our fault for our misidentification of homestuck’s real aesthetics and ambitions, and comments that specifically point out tumblr creating a false, softer homestuck feel about as gendered as hamlet’s upcoming take on cosmetics. Is fandom, or bad fandom, only cosmetic?
My takeaway is that... yes, actually, there was something we didn’t realize about the relationship we were all getting into. Perhaps it was obscured underneath all the voices of various contributing artists; [S] Explore made me feel a sense of haunting beauty that hasn’t left over a decade later. Lexxy’s god tier jade is a wonderful painting of a happy young girl who came back to life and saved everyone, but beauty in homestuck now is about pure, unadulterated terror. Terror of beauty, and terror of each other.
(Well now I’m sounding artsy, let me just get this snippet from a PDF of the script.)
Tumblr media
[caption; for a moment Hamlet has been touched by the sight of Ophelia with her book of prayers. yet there is estrangement in the word “Sylph” “Nymph.” She inquires for his health (having seen him yesterday); he answers as to a stranger; formally, as he does to Osric... and with some impatience; he will tell her nothing. She produces his gifts; he has been sent for by the King; Ophelia, like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, has doubtless also been sent for; he falls back on his accustomed method of baffling half-truths. These toys were the gift of another Hamlet to another Ophelia-- not his.]
Homestuck begins to question the base nature of canon and the expectations held to canon, and thus everything feels a bit like evasive maneuvers re: accountability for anything that is said or done whatsoever. Baffling half-truths, questionable sincerity in open derision, like as follows;
HAMLET: Get thee to a nunnery: why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners? I am myself indifferent honest; but yet I could accuse me of such things that it were better my mother had not borne me: I am very proud, revengeful, ambitious, with more offences at my beck than I have thoughts to put them in, imagination to give them shape, or time to act them in. What should such fellows as I do crawling between earth and heaven? We are arrant knaves, all; believe none of us. Go thy ways to a nunnery. Where's your father? OPHELIA: At home, my lord. HAMLET: Let the doors be shut upon him, that he may play the fool no where but in's own house. Farewell.
Lol, house.
OPHELIA: O, help him, you sweet heavens! HAMLET: If thou dost marry, I'll give thee this plague for thy dowry: be thou as chaste as ice, as pure as snow, thou shalt not escape calumny. Get thee to a nunnery, go: farewell. Or, if thou wilt needs marry, marry a fool; for wise men know well enough what monsters you make of them. To a nunnery, go, and quickly too. Farewell. OPHELIA: O heavenly powers, restore him! HAMLET: I have heard of your paintings too, well enough; God has given you one face, and you make yourselves another: you jig, you amble, and you lisp, and nick-name God's creatures, and make your wantonness your ignorance. Go to, I'll no more on't; it hath made me mad. I say, we will have no more marriages: those that are married already, all but one, shall live; the rest shall keep as they are. To a nunnery, go. (Exit)
The suspicion fostered in narrative by the epilogues is in fact a kind of “lesson” we are to take towards all narrators and all stories. But is that any way to live-- like, no reciprocation, no honesty, no trust or gentleness-- there shall be no marriage. This sort of intertextual reading (wait is it... intertextual if it’s paired with a narrative external space? It’s not like i can just CALL Kristeva to ask) ...does kind of imply the Epilogues were inevitable and a result of homestuck’s “real” philosophies. But you still get to ask, is it a good philosophy? Hamlet agrees and he’s just a famously good and emotionally stable guy, so who’s to say.
(My real answer is that Hegel’s m/s model was right and that mutual recognition is not only better but the best thing humans can do and strive for, and so this all feels petulant to me. But famously good and emotionally stable Ophelia drowned in a river so maybe don’t take my word for it.)
Pair with Errant Signal’s videos on The Beginner’s Guide and That Dragon Cancer if you like which both have thoughts about narrative-reader connections. (The latter discusses the former.)
Anyway, this should be my new twitter bio;
OPHELIA: O, what a noble mind is here o'erthrown! The courtier's, soldier's, scholar's, eye, tongue, sword; The expectancy and rose of the fair state, The glass of fashion and the mould of form, The observed of all observers, quite, quite down! And I, of ladies most deject and wretched, That suck'd the honey of his music vows, Now see that noble and most sovereign reason, Like sweet bells jangled, out of tune and harsh; That unmatch'd form and feature of blown youth Blasted with ecstasy: O, woe is me, To have seen what I have seen, see what I see!

Towards the end of my research for my Ph.D, I became fascinated by what has recently been cited as the "second wave" of realism films in production, thanks, in part, to the advent of creative social websites like YouTube and Vimeo. The introduction of reality and scripted reality television, alongside its relatively unilateral conjunction with the internet, sparked a new direction in filmmaking that prided itself on low budgets and the autonomy of immediate authorship.
Where Vimeo encouraged, and favoured, well produced filmmaking and art house developments from a range of semi-professionals to professionals, YouTube saw a strong dynamic shift in what eventually was defined as vlogging. Video series like Marble Hornets, Fewdio, and curiously chilling uploads by users such as EverymanHYBRID became cult canon amongst internet users. Instead of humour posts, video game plays, and make-up tutorials, users sought creative expression in 'noise aesthetics' and the horror genre.
On April 30, 2010, YouTube user Euripet3s1 (full name: Y/F/N Y/L/N) uploaded a video entitled #184-190 to her channel of 12,413 subscribers. It would be the final upload she would make before deactivating the account three weeks later, eventually removing herself from social media altogether. The video itself is an account of her trip to England to visit fellow YouTube vlogger and boyfriend theJungProject (full name: Jung Hoseok), who was residing in the country while finishing his degree, depicted through seven pieces of footage taken from video cameras and mobile phones.
Euripet3s1's channel was a comedy and lifestyle channel, in which she would present everyday information in a humorous way. Therefore, the unsettling events in the final video left both fans and casual viewers stunned. Avid fans of the Marble Hornets series were the first to draw attention to the video, before it went viral on hundreds of forums, including Reddit and BuzzFeed. When the users’ account was deactivated, the video was removed from the website only to resurface two months later by user TwerK (full name: Kim Taehyung). There are only two videos on TwerK's channel: #184-190 and Help Explain This.
Help Explain This was filmed in August 2011 and is the last surviving footage of Jung Hoseok.
Numerous attempts at paranormal investigations have occurred in the last two years with no results. Psychics have been brought to every location depicted, though their efforts have been futile. The pocket watch in the film has been defined, by paranormal researcher David Kelwayne, as a totem. To quote David:
 "A totem is an item left behind by the dead which they had ascribed deep personal meaning or symbolism during their life. To come into contact with a totem is to contact the spirit attached to it, even if said contact is relatively erroneous; to become connected to the totem is to become connected with the spirit, often permanently" (Seeking Answers: Beginner's Guide To The Paranormal, 54)
This report exists only to present the video as it was found, in its untouched manner, for archival and historical purposes. The research to be found on the events, people, and locations involved has lead many in vast circles and down endless rabbit holes. It is my hope that the academic world will provide its resources for the many seeking answers about what truly happened to Jung Hoseok during that week in April.

[Exterior. Night-vision mid-close up of dirt path. Leaves cover the ground and crunch audibly. Feet remain in view as two persons walk the path in brisk, even steps. A low male voice is heard, his accent distinctly Korean. ]
H: Are you filming, Y/N?
[A second voice speaks, female. She is American]
Y/N: I have no idea. Your camera is weird.
H: It's no different from any American camera. It's a SONY. Has the green dot gone on?
Y/N: Well, it's different in the dark. Yeah, it has.
H: Then it's filming. Point it at your face, dummy.
[Camera is lifted and spun towards the holder's face, the night vision on the camera giving her a blue glow. She is young, no more than 24. The fringe of her hair gets caught in her eyes, trapped there by the hood of her sweater. She smiles brightly, waving at the camera momentarily.]
Y/N: And so we meet again! Today I am joined by theJungProject -
[camera pans left. A young man, also no more than 24, is walking briskly with his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket. He squints at the light of the camera and pulls a face by sticking out his tongue]
- say hi, Hobi.
H: [nods once] Hello, Tiddy Harem.
Y/N [sighing]: Must you call them that?
H: [shaking black hair out of his eyes; he sniffs, not looking at the camera] You have thirteen thousand subscribers and 12,950 of them are men. Yeah, I'd say it's a harem.
Y/N: [snorting] I do not have thirteen thousand. And that's an insult to my fifty female subscribers.
H: You know I’m playing. [sniffs] You have fantastic tits, though.
Y/N: You’re literally disgusting. [turns camera back to her face] So, as you all remember I landed last night in Heathrow, after which I got embarrassingly drunk on incredible beer. We spent most of the day being hungover before getting on a train from - what station was it?
H: [in background] Liverpool Street.
Y/N: Right, yeah. We got a train from there to here, [pulls camera back to wave hand, denoting surrounding location] which is apparently Suffolk…specifically Sudbury. We had a grand idea to go to the Borley Rectory because I'm in England and apparently that means it's okay for Hobi to go on a midnight ghost hunt.
H: I'm not ghost hunting, I'm just…exploring.
Y/N: [faces camera; raises one eyebrow]
[Camera turns off]

[Interior; night. Camera pans from left to right as Y/N breathes heavily. The windows of the rectory are shattered. Leaves scatter the concrete floor. What little furniture existing within the house has been tattered and worn over time, the sheen of its once extraordinary grandeur decayed with dust and time. Y/N walks to her right, into a small dining area. The camera pans over a wooden table that is badly scratched, three long distinct marks marring the mahogany. A hand comes into view, Y/N’s, as she runs her fingers over the marks. The camera pans up and to the left, showing cabinets that are missing their drawers. She leaves the room, slowly walking towards the foyer. A mirror hangs on the wall, the light reflecting off the glass into the lens. She waves.]
H: [distantly; calling] Baby, come up here.
[Y/N head turns right, facing the direction of Hoseok’s voice. The camera turns right as she walks straight back toward a carpeted staircase. Slowly, she ascends it, her footsteps quiet and muffled by both the camera and the foliage. She sniffles. As she approaches the landing, a painting of a pasture comes into view. It is crooked. When she reaches the landing, the camera moves from right to left. There are three bedrooms]
Y/N: [loud whisper] Where are you?
H: [voice from left] In here.
[Camera passes through a doorway. Long shot of Hoseok at chest of drawers to the left. There is an empty bed on the right side of the room, the mattress bare and torn. The video pixelates for approximately two seconds, correcting itself. The windows of the bedroom are in tact, though the carpet has been ripped up from the floor in a seemingly random pattern. Y/N walks to where Hoseok is standing. Atop the chest are several items: a broken hairbrush, a small empty picture frame, an empty ring box and a pocket watch. Y/N zooms in on the pocket watch. Hoseok picks it up, his grip indelicate. Y/N turns the camera, and zooms out to a medium close up of Hoseok’s face as he inspects it]
H: [whispers] This rectory had hundreds of residents before it was condemned. I wonder whose this was.
Y/N: [also in a whisper] Hobi, this place was destroyed by a fire in 1939. Isn't it weird to you that there's still…..things, objects…belongings in here? Nothing seems terribly ruined.
[Pause. Hoseok does not reply. Y/N returns the subject to the pocket watch, appeasing him by maintaining focus on the object though her discomfort is evident.] It looks really old. Can't be from any time after 1920, look at the design. Early surrealist or something.
H: [humming in interest] How do you know that?
Y/N: I’m taking art history for my electives. I’m just saying it looks like something I’ve seen.
[The camera zooms back on to the pocket watch in Hoseok’s hand. There is a patch of dirt along the rim of the cover, but an intricate design of intertwined clock hands and numbers is distinct.]
H: This is mental. You know the more you look at it, the more it resembles a kind of face. Like from a masquerade.
[Long pause]
Y/N: I don't see it. Where are you looking?
[Hoseok’s thumb comes into view. It presses the button on the side to open the watch. The cover pops open with a soft click, revealing an elegant Victorian clock face.]
H: Too much to ask for it to be working, isn't it. [laughs]
Y/N: Probably needs to be wound.
[Hoseok closes the pocket watch.]
[Cut. Interior. Y/N thuds down the stairs after Hoseok, hands clasped and both laughing They come to a stop in the parlor. Hoseok inspects bookshelves, looking for something or nothing, running his fingers over the dusted wood. Y/N turns the camera away and zooms in on a picture frame. It is badly singed. The image of a woman, who looks almost sad, is barely discernible.]
Y/N: [muttering] Something about this……isn't……
[The sound of piano notes echo loudly through the room. Y/N screams loudly, swears, and is visibly shaken as she turns toward the noise. Hoseok sits at a piano by the back of the room, playing Erik Satie's "Gnossienne No. 1." He is chuckling. Y/N approaches him.]
Y/N: There's a fucking piano?
H: [plays uninterrupted] Scare you, did I?
Y/N: Hobi, is there anything about this that's ok? You said this place was destroyed by a fire and has been abandoned. Logic this out for me: why would there be a piano in a burned down house? Wouldn't the city have this cleared out?
[Hoseok shrugs]
Y/N: I think we should go.
H: Don't want to spend the night here? We haven't seen anything yet.
Y/N: I paid £35 for a train ticket to this hell. I'll cut my losses and say we’ve seen plenty enough, okay?
H: [expression softening, he stops playing. The silence is deafening.] Okay, baby, we can go.
[Cut. Exterior. Y/N and Hoseok walking along a residential sidewalk. Hoseok is holding the camera this time, pointed at Y/N in a long shot. Night vision is switched off, faces now illuminated by street lamps they pass. He whistles seductively.]
H: [whispering] Don’t tell anyone until she watches this guys...but I think I’m in love with her. [He turns the camera to face him. The camera zooms out to fit his face.] I mean it. [He looks over the camera to her.] I love her.
Y/N: [distant, off camera] What are you whining about back there?
H: [laughing, he catches up with Y/N and aims the camera at her profile] Say what you said again.
Y/N: [biting her cheek, but smiling nonetheless] I said you're a twunt.
H: Look at that! Y/N has spent 30 hours in this country and is already adopting its language.
Y/N: Yeah, well you are. Tell the audience what you did.
H: [turns the camera to his face and holds it out. His leather jacket is unzipped, revealing A Horrors band-tee shirt] I've been a naughty boy. [His other hand reaches into his pocket. He pulls out the pocket watch] Y/N’s upset with me because I wanted a souvenir.
Y/N: It's not yours, Hoseok.
H: [turns his face to Y/N, camera still aimed at himself. He puts the watch back in his pocket] It's technically not anyone's. Besides, this is one thing we could at least fix.

[Interior. Hotel bedroom. Y/N sits at the desk provided, laptop open as she uploads footage from the video camera onto her computer. Her back is to the camera. The pocket watch twirls in front of the screen. Hoseok hums. The camera flips, revealing his face. It is clear he is filming on his iPhone. He starts to mouth lyrics to "Don't Stop Me Now," which is playing in the background. He flips the camera back to the watch.]
Y/N: [turns her head quickly over shoulder] Holy shit, come look at this.
[Hoseok drops the pocket watch and hoists himself off the sofa. He is wearing plaid flannel pants. He approaches the desk, leaning against the back of Y/N’s chair and extending his arm as he films.]
H: [kissing Y/N’s head off camera, voice muffled] What is it?
Y/N: You tell me. [looks back at Hoseok, anxious]
[Y/N has Final Cut open. She presses play on footage taken earlier in the evening. She has selected footage from when he ascended the stairs and entered the master bedroom. It plays without sound.]
H: What am I looking for….I don't…
Y/N: [quietly] Just wait.
[The footage shows the camera panning through the room. As it comes to the bed, the footage warps, revealing a figure wearing black sitting on the mattress. It turns to look at the camera. It is wearing a white mask. The footage warps again. The figure is gone]
H: [reels back] What the fuck is that?! Did you put that in there?
Y/N: [turns to look at Hoseok] No. How would I do that?
H: [words unsteady] I don't know, you're the film wizard. I still use iMovie. Maybe you have clever special effects or something.
Y/N: I can assure you that I have no idea how to superimpose an image that clear onto digital footage. I took one semester of New Media, I'm hardly advanced.
H: How did you not see it when you were filming?
Y/N: I don't know, the camera went all pixelated when I was filming but I just thought the battery was running low or something.
H: You better not be having me off.
Y/N: [brow furrowed, disbelieving] What does that sentence even mean?
H: Is this punishment for taking the pocket watch?
Y/N: [pursing her lips briefly before she speaks] I'm really not that upset about the pocket watch. Why would I do that?
H: Whatever. Let's just go to bed and forget about it. I don’t want this to turn into a fight.
Y/N: Fine by me.

[Interior. Mid-Day. Close up of Y/N’s face. She stares at something out of view. Behind her, the scenery has changed. Band posters line the green wall, gig tickets and setlists framed next to them. This is what many assume is Hoseok’s bedroom.]
Y/N: [whispers] He's been like this all morning. I have no idea what the hell is going on. He was fine yesterday when we got back from Borley. Fine when we went to lunch, fine when we went to The Borderline for the Lescop gig. Now, he won't stop staring at that goddamn pocket watch. Look.
[The camera is flipped, again the film is from an iPhone. Hoseok sits shirtless on the bed, hickeys dotting his neck and collarbone, the pocket watch in his left hand. He stares almost impassively at it.]
Y/N: [loudly] Hobi.
[Hoseok does not respond]
Y/N: [louder] Hoseok, what the fuck are you doing?
[Hoseok does not respond]
Y/N: [mutters quietly] Jesus Christ.
[The camera tilts and wobbles, tipping down for a moment as Y/N bends to pick something up. A shoe is thrown in frame and lands on the bed right next to Hoseok. Hoseok lifts his head, dropping the watch. He smiles]
H: Want breakfast, baby?
Y/N: [long pause; quiet breathing] Uh huh.

[Exterior. Mid-Day. Extreme long shot of Hoseok as he stands in front of a wooden sign that says Boxer's Lake. From the pockets of his leather jacket he pulls the pocket watch]
H: [looking over his shoulder; calls] You sure this is a good idea.
Y/N: [loudly; voice garbled by wind into microphone] You should have seen yourself, Hobi. It's gotta be the watch and I don’t want to go back there to return it.
[Hoseok reels back and throws the watch into the lake. He stares after it, shoulders drooped and jaw tense]
[Cut. Interior of a car. Hoseok is driving. Y/N points the camera at his face.]
Y/N: How do you feel?
H: Like my soul has been ripped from my chest.
[Pauses. Looks at Y/N]
H: [bursts into laughter] Chill out, baby. I feel fine.
Y/N: [laughs weakly]
[Cut. Interior. Hoseok’s kitchen. Y/N films as Hoseok brews tea.]
H: You want any, love?
Y/N: Nah, water is fine.
H: [looks up at camera] Are you going to film everything?
Y/N: We have an interested audience. Need to keep them satisfied. And besides, I’m only here for a week. I want to remember everything with you.
H: [begins to pull off shirt, suggestively wiggling his eyebrows.]
Y/N: [laughter] Don’t start with that!
H: [straightens and flattens shirt] You said satisfied! Y/N: [still laughing] Yeah, well, that’s just for me and I’d like to keep it that way.
[Hoseok bites his lip, happy, and walks to a cabinet to the left. He makes to open it, but his attention is brought to something on the counter beneath it. He pauses. His hand slowly drops from the knob of the cabinet. The colour drains from his face]
Y/N: What?
[Hoseok brings his eyes to the camera, lips parted. He is visibly disturbed. He lifts his right hand. He holds up the pocket watch. Y/N’s breath becomes heavy and labored]
H: [voice small] What the fuck.
[Camera shuts off]

[Interior. Mid-Day. Hoseok’s car, again. Y/N holds the camera as Hoseok drives, lens pointed out the windshield]
Y/N: Slow down, Hobi.
H: [voice hollow] No. The fucking watch is ticking…and existing. How is any of what just happened possible?
Y/N: I don't know, I don't know.
H: This is fucking twisted.
Y/N: What are you going to do?
H: Leave it in a field? Pawn it off? Whatever, as long as it's far away from me.
Y/N: Why not burn it?
H: Any fire I make wouldn't get the metal hot enough.
Y/N: Just don't get reckless. [Pleading] Please, baby?
[Cut. Interior. A Pawnshop. The camera pans along a shelf. Various objects come into focus. A door opens and an older man comes into view from the back of the store. To the left of the frame, Hoseok walks over and introduces himself]
H: Hi. Uhm, I'm Hoseok. I need to sell a pocket watch?
[The store clerk looks from Hoseok to Y/N]
Clerk: Get your mate to turn the camera off and then we can do business.
[Cut. Interior. Hoseok’s car. Y/N has rested the camera on the dashboard, pointed at the passing scenery]
H: WOOOO! £650 for a shitty old watch!!
Y/N: I think the fact that it was still working was what sold him.
H: Who knows how long it will work for. We practically robbed him.
Y/N: You practically robbed him. I almost got thrown out for having a camera.
H: Eh. He was probably drunk from boredom. I would be, too, if I had to sit in silence eight hours a day.
[Cut. Interior. Night. Hoseok’s kitchen. Hoseok presses play on his answering machine as he takes off his coat. Y/N sits at a chair at the kitchen table and zooms in on a Sainsbury's frozen dinner.]
Y/N: Mmmmmm.
[In the background, a voice is heard on the answering machine.]
Recorded Voice: Mr. Jung. It's Geoff. You sold me a watch not two hours ago. I’d like to make it clear I don't appreciate being fucked with. [Y/N brings the camera around, landing on Hoseok who is paused at his refrigerator staring at the machine, frowning.] I get enough shit in my town, and I certainly don't need non-locals breezing through and pulling pranks. I'm giving you twenty-four hours to return the watch or my money to the store. If you don't, I'm calling the cops and we can settle this with legal action. [Machine beeps]
[Hoseok remains paused at the refrigerator - frozen. He begins to visibly tense and Y/N gets up from the kitchen table. She approaches him slowly, before Hoseok slams the refrigerator door shut and rushes into the living room]
Y/N: [shouts] Hoseok!
H: [yells] Where the fuck is it? WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT WITH ME?
[Y/N enters the living room and turns right. Hoseok is standing in front of his mantle, hitting his chest with the flat of his palms. He stares at the ceiling and screams]
H: [still yelling] YOU CAN HAVE YOUR FUCKING WATCH BACK, I DON'T WANT IT.
Y/N: [yelling over Hoseok] HOSEOK, THERE IS NO ONE ELSE HERE.
H: [looks at Y/N] Of course there is! How else would any of this be happening? [Turns abruptly and heads down the hallway. He disappears into his room.
Y/N: Fuck’s sake.
[Y/N follows and enters Hoseok’s room. Hoseok is pulling books out of shelves. He abandons that project and quickly goes to his bed, where he up-turns his mattress]
H: [yelling again] WHERE IS IT, HUH?
Y/N: Hoseok, calm the hell down!
[Hoseok turns and rushes past Y/N. Y/N follows]
Y/N: Hoseok, ripping up the house isn't going to solve anything!
H: It's not in my room, it's not in the kitchen. It makes itself known, right? It wants to fucking be seen. The goddamn ATTENTION WHORE.
Y/N: It's an inanimate object, Hoseok, stop!
[Hoseok stomps into the kitchen and picks up his jacket. He pauses for a moment, softening, and reaches into a pocket. He pulls out the watch]
H: [staring at the watch] Something…someone…whatever…wants me to have this. I don't. Fucking. Want it.
[**In the recorded footage, a voice is heard. It clearly says “But you took it.” Neither Y/N nor Hoseok reacts to it and neither has spoken. This voice was pointed out by YouTube user Sarkozam12**]
[camera turns off]

Duration: 8:00
[Interior. Night. The couches and chairs have been removed from Hoseok’s living room. Two pillows are placed on the ground, side by side, beneath the coffee table where a ouija board as been set up. The scene is lit by numerous candles along the floor and mantle. Fingers over the microphone cause muffled noises and garbled sounds. Hoseok enters from frame right. He sits, in jeans a tee shirt, on one of the pillows. He takes a swig of cider before setting it next to him. He looks slightly above the camera.]
Y/N: [off camera] This is a terrible idea, Hobi.
H: [solemn] Is the camera set up?
Y/N: [pauses, sighs] Yeah, it's just about.done tightening the tripod.
H: Good.
[Y/N enters from the bottom of frame left. It's a long shot of the living room. Y/N sits next to Hoseok. They look at each other briefly. Hoseok draws his eyes away and onto the Oujia board. Y/N’s brow furrows, and she reaches to twine her fingers with Hoseok’s. The contact has him return his gaze to hers, smiling before he leans in and kisses her deeply. Pulling back, he kisses her knuckles three times. Hoseok’s expression hardens]
H: [quietly] I love you.
Y/N: [smiling; quietly] I’m still not used to you saying that. [pauses] I love you, too.
H: [inhaling deeply] Let's do this.
[Y/N pauses. Hoseok looks at her, concerned.]
H: Don't tell me you're quitting on this.
Y/N: [looks at the ground] Ouija boards are scary, serious shit, Hoseok. I don't think we should fuck around with this. We’ve already fucked up so much shit.
H: [shaking his head] I fucked up. And I just don’t know what other choice I have.
[Y/N pauses briefly, hesitating before leaning in to kiss him once more. They whisper to one another as they break apart, kissing for a few more seconds before separating fully. Pulling her hand from his, she sighs and places both hands on the planchette. Hoseok follows suit and does the same]
H: [uncomfortable] What do I say?
Y/N: [loudly] Is there anyone here with us?
[They remain quiet and wait. The planchette does not move.]
H: What if we contact Zozo? That's the opposite of what I want.
Y/N: [giggling, though her sense of amusement is unconvicing] Don't be stupid.
[Both are silenced by the planchette which has started to move in swirls across the board.]
H: Is that you?
Y/N: No, I'm barely touching this.
H: [shaking his head] It's not me.
[The planchette stops on the word 'Bye']
H: [pauses] Well, that's sinister.
[The video warps into pixels and corrects itself. Three candles have been blown out. Y/N is panicked]
Y/N: What the fuck did that?
H: [loudly] What is your name?
[The planchette moves, quickly. Y/N says the letters it stops on.]
Y/N: L…A…I…R…R…E. D…D…D…E…A…T…H.
H: Lairreedddeath? The hell?
Y/N: I'm busy focusing on the part that - [The video warps. the masked figure from #186 appears behind Hoseok, getting closer after each pixel correction. A white hand with sharp nails reaches for his neck. It disappears] in the fire?
[The Marimba ringtone of an iPhone goes off]
H: Shit. That's mine.
Y/N: Leave it.
[The planchette spins out of control and falls from the table onto the floor. All the candles are blown out at the same time, though there is no wind to disrupt the atmosphere. The camera shifts to night vision. Both draw their attention to the bright light from the camera]
Y/N: Does your camera shift modes automatically?
H: No, what -
[A loud thud is heard, the sound of a door slamming open to the left, its metal knob hitting the wall. The door to what is considered a broom closet has flung open, but its interior is black and occasionally blurred by pixelated static. Y/N turns to look at the noise, but Hoseok disappears from view. We hear him scream]
Y/N: Hoseok?!? [Y/N searches frantically for where the sound is coming from. She turns her attention back to the door, eyes wide in alarm.] Hoseok?
[Y/N gets up and approaches the closet but the door slams shut. The lights of the house come on. Y/N opens the door to the closet. It is just a closet. The tripod falls over. The screen goes blue and flashes NO BATTERY]
~~~
Given the found footage nature of the editing and the allusion by Hoseok that Y/N was proficient in film editing, at least once mentioning the capability of using special effects in post production, many of the initial viewers of #186-190 believed the story of Hoseok’s disappearance was a clever hoax. While this report remains unbiased, it is important to point out several facts.
Firstly, it is true that Jung Hoseok went missing from his shared home April 25, 2010. The phone call received on his mobile during #190 was from his mother, mentioned in Y/F/N Y/L/N’s police report, who had not seen her son since April 11, 2010. Secondly, the pocket watch, and the clothing in which Hoseok disappeared in, have never been found. Until August 2011, the footage captured during #190 depicted the last known whereabouts of Jung Hoseok.
When Y/N deactivated her account, #184-190 was removed from YouTube in accordance with YouTube’s privacy policies, however not before user TwerK had downloaded the video to a flash drive. In June of 2010, the video was uploaded to Kim Taehyung’s channel, with reasons citing the urgency for fans and interested parties to continue to study the video - i.e in search of clues or proof of a hoax. It is worth noting that while there is a well documented friendship and romantic relationship between Euripet3s1 and theJungProject (ie: both were subscribers to each other's channels, the earliest comments on each party's videos date back to 2008, Euripet3s1 tagged theJungProject in a video called Top 10 Films of 2009, etc) TwerK did not subscribe to either channel, nor has he confessed to knowing either personally.
It is because of these reasons that the footage in Help Explain This is, in a word, astounding. The film itself was uploaded with a description consisting of a personal plea from Taehyung to help explain what he had caught. Once the video was live, Taehyung experienced a brief period of notoriety on the internet, while simultaneously going under fire by those close to Hoseok who called his video 'tactless and offensive.'
It is also worth noting that Y/N has become reclusive since these events and has not been available for comment since late 2010, on advice from her therapist.
Help Explain This
Duration: 4:03
[Interior. Mid-Day. Footsteps thud up the stairs of Borley Rectory. The camera is pointed at the landing, but the painting is gone. The person arrives at the landing and he speaks. He is Korean.]
T: Okay. So. Kim Taehyung here. I’m sorry in advance for any English mistakes, but a few subscribers wanted me to visit the rectory while I am here on vacation. Yes, yes, I know it's weird that my YouTube channel only has one video on it, but some of you on Reddit convinced me to make this.  Here we are [Camera pans right to left, light pours in from holes in the ceiling. The home appears to be empty.]. Exact same spot where Euripet3s1 stood. As you can see there is no painting on the wall. Ehm.
[He turns to his left and enters the bedroom, panning the camera right to left as Y/N had done. A naked figure stands in the back right corner of the bedroom, his back to the camera, facing the wall]
T: Again, the room is completely empty. The walls are badly burned. I know you all want to believe this was a hoax, but there's no way these two had the budget. You can't even get up the stairs easily without worrying about falling through.
[He turns left, zooming to an extreme long shot. The right side of the room out of frame.]
T: This is where theJungProject found the pocket watch. No chest of drawers here. [Camera pans down, showing his feet] You can see the boards of the floor are burned. I'm too afraid to even put weight there. [He presses his foot to the floor, retracting it immediately.]
[Raising the camera, he turns the camera back to right, slightly, showing the whole of the room. The figure from the corner has turned around and is standing naked in a full body shot. The camera pixelates. The figure is now close to the lens, able to be viewed from the middle of the waist up. His mouth and eyes are wide open, but blackened as though holes. The figure is clearly Jung Hoseok.]
T: That's it, then. Sorry the video was so lame.
[He turns and leaves the room. The camera does one last pan from the landing back to the room. The foyer below is empty. The room he had just exited is empty]
Fin.
Author’s Note #2: The locations in this story - Borley Rectory, Boxer's Lake, Liverpool Street Station, Suffolk, and Sudbury - are all real places. Borley Rectory was known as 'the most haunted house in England' and it did get severely burned in 1939. There is actually a woman who haunted the building named Marie Lairre.
Johnlock Alternate First Meetings
In honor of January 29th the day when Sherlock Holmes and John Watson met, I have put together some alternate first meeting recs that are not total AUs; in other words, the setting is modern-day England where Sherlock is a consulting detective and John is an invalided army doctor.
A Beginner’s Guide to Apiology by VictoryCandescence (10K, M, Johnlock) John and Sherlock meet for the first time as old men in Sussex.
All the Rest (of What I Want) by philalethia (68K, E, Johnlock) After being invalided home from Afghanistan, John takes his therapist's advice and tries to meet people online. Specifically, he joins a fetish site, where he ends up interacting with a man called SH who keeps paying him money to perform odd tasks and seems very keen to take care of him.
Almost Home by Berty (13K, E, Johnlock) "He pulls out the ID card – the one that Sherlock had somehow seen when he was buying drinks at that awful club. He’s had other ID cards since then but he's hung on to this one for some reason. He looks at the image of his face, young and pale and idealistic, and he knows that just a month later that man would have found and lost the love of his life within a week, and even knowing that, John wouldn’t change a single thing."
De profundis by darcylindbergh (32K, M, Johnlock) Sherlock Holmes sees dead people. Which, although not necessarily ideal, has mostly turned out to be fine.Or, it was, until one day he looks up, and sees John Watson.
Ecstasy by Indybaggins (16K, E, Johnlock and Sherlock/OMCs) John never learned how to do this here, in sordid London, where every bloke lines up in a queue of ads and everyone has someone else every night.
Elementary, Actually by blueink3 (26K, E, Johnlock) Just back from the war, 26-year-old John Watson is looking for a job. Luckily, his old buddy Mike Stamford has one in mind:   “Mike, you did not tell me this was a porno.”
For the First Time and the Thousandth Time by 221b_careful_what_you_wish_for (22K, M, Johnlock) Injured in a mysterious shooting, Sherlock is sent to a safe house to recover while Mycroft tracks down his assailant. The house, hidden deep in the countryside, is old and drafty, and -- according to rumors -- haunted by a English solider wounded in World War 1. A series of strange events soon has Sherlock questioning his firm disbelief in the supernatural, past lives, and true love.
Heart’s Desire by 88thParallel (20K, G, Johnlock and Jolto) Reeling after a tragic loss, John Watson is surprised when he finds love again. After a lifetime of illness, Sherlock Holmes finally feels his heart truly beat for another.But as they move toward something more serious, an unbelievable truth is revealed that threatens to break both their hearts for good.
Hello You by weeesi (20K, T, Johnlock) John kind of can’t believe he’s doing this and kind of can’t imagine doing anything else. He dips his head, heart pounding.
Il Bolero by shamelessmash (21K, E, Johnlock) While working a case, Sherlock follows a lead to Il Bolero, a shop that caters to the BDSM lifestyle. There he meets a thirty-something clerk named John who offers to help him test a few spanking tools that accidentaly send Sherlock into subspace.He certainly wasn't expecting to get addicted to the sensation.
In Need of Quiet Affection and Gentle Words by kinklock (16K, E, Johnlock) After John's girlfriend (of sorts) sends him an online sex guide, John finds himself more intrigued by the guide's author than anything his girlfriend might have had in mind.
Just to Hold You Close by sussexbound (70K, E, Johnlock) When a woman is murdered and the last person to see her alive is recently invalided army vet turned reluctant (and prickly) professional cuddler, John Watson, Sherlock Holmes is pulled into a world of intimacy and intrigue he never could have imagined.  John is a conundrum and mystery: frank yet reserved, tender yet angry, open yet afraid.   Sherlock is instantly drawn into his orbit, and begins to feel and desire things he never has before.
keywords: Gay, Loving, Boyfriends by lookupkate (17K, E, Johnlock) John starts writing gay romance while holed up in hospital. Sherlock reads the first fic on accident, and it sticks with him for days. He can't help but read more from the unknown writer. Little does he know, the writer isn't exactly unknown to him. The writer happens to be the A&E Doctor he's feuding with.
Leveling Up by philalethia (36K, M, Johnlock) John plays video games, Sherlock writes a guide on GameFAQs, and they get on quite well together... eventually.
Never with the Flow by cleflink (25K, M, Gen but also pre-slash Johnlock) It's hard for John to say which was a bigger culture shock: getting shot (again) and falling into an alternate dimension instead of dying, or meeting Sherlock Holmes. Probably Sherlock Holmes, although discovering that he has an entirely new sexual orientation had been quite a turn up as well.Now John's got to deal with a mad flatmate, a society that treats him like he'll break if someone looks at him the wrong way, and a new case involving kidnapped omegas being forced into prostitution rings.Oh, and he's apparently going into heat. Lovely.
Once Upon a Time by thisisforyou (57K, E, Johnlock) Follows an alternate canon wherein John and Sherlock meet as teenagers, but don't remember each other until they are re-introduced at St Bart's. How can we ever really measure the influence we have on other people's lives? Flicks between the main storyline of the two at seventeen and alternate moments throughout canon and their lives before meeting at Bart's.
The Dead Detective by DiscordantWords (37K, M, Johnlock) John Watson has spent the last three years of his life simply going through the motions. A chance encounter with a man claiming to be a stranded spy changes everything.
Uncharted Territory by J_Baillier (19K, T, Johnlock and Mystrade) The System puts people through a series of assigned relationships in order to determine who their Perfect Match is. John believes that it works; Sherlock really, really doesn't. One of them is probably going to be wrong.
whiskies neat by Ellipsical (20K, E, Johnlock) Home and hearth and whiskies neat, or, alternatively, Sherlock Holmes falls in love.
It's time to talk about our dear Prof. Stretch!
Stretch
Species: Monster
Age: 21 when you meet Blue. 23 when he takes over the lab. 27 when Papyrus arrives at his laboratory.
Profession: Pokemon researcher specialized in Pokesans. Responsible for the Swapville laboratory.
Initial Pokemon: Blue
Other Pokemons: Sans (originally from Papyrus), Cherry (Originally Red), Geno (is in his care), Lust (captured to be handed over to a Coordinator), Berry and Edgy and other wild pokemons he takes care of.
“Welcome to the Beginner’s Guide for Master Pokesans. I’m Prof. Stretch and I will be your instructor in this fascinating world.”
Stretch has always loved pokemon since he was a child. As most young people dreamed of being a coach, but because of a lecture by the renowned Dr. Gaster, a genius among researchers, he soon realizes his vocation was to study them and not train them.
He then applies himself to studies and moves on to a renowned college specializing in training researchers. It is in college that he meets his best friend Dynne, a Fish Monster who is on the same course as him.
He decides to specialize in pokesans (being a skeleton has more affinity with them) and as soon as he graduates he goes on a research trip with Dynne.
They choose a forest known for its wide variety of pokemons as a starting point for research and before long they are approached by an energetic pokesans Swap.
Stretch is excited, but the pokesans soon lose interest in them and disappear, but not for long. Stretch soon notices that the pokesans are watching them (he tries to be sneaky, but he sucks at it) from afar (sometimes not that far). He's fine with it, as he watches them he watches him back.
In fact he is very happy, after all that is what he graduated from, studying pokesans and the company also makes him feel safer in this great forest (Stretch lived all his life in the city), even though he does nothing to save them from the poisonous pokepastrys or the badly regarded Pokealphys with whom they came across at a given moment.
One day the pokesans approach again and take them to a cave. He and Dynne discuss the pros and cons of entering (they only have a Escape Roupe and the last of their Repel was spent to pass the pokepastrys nest), but since they are being invited by the pokesans (and the Swap are well known for not being the type who play tricks) they decide to follow him.
The place is a scientific find! It's covered in magic crystals and could be a cave with more magical crystals since Cave Temm. Dynne is terribly excited and despite her own excitement about the discovery, Stretch is happier with the pokesans' rapprochement than with crystals. It is a pity that they were not the first Monsters to find the place. An unknown Monster was tearing the crystals out of the cave without any care.
Outraged by the damage, they try to stop him, only for the Monster to throw his Pokémon at them.
The pokemons start to fight and although the little one doesn't have much technique, he has power. Stretch tries to give some advice and warnings in the middle of the fight (he may not be a coach, but he had watched hours and hours of tournament broadcasts in his childhood). It looks like they can win, and the other Monster also notices this and uses a mysterious artifact to strengthen the pokemon.
Whatever it is ends up with the Pokémon attacking its own master, who runs away. He convinces Dynne to go out for help while staying to help the pokesans.
He tries to convince him to abandon the fight, but the little one is determined to stop his opponent. To protect him from a serious attack, Stretch ends up launching himself on the pokesans and ends up unconscious, only waking up already in the hospital, where he is informed by a tearful Dynne that the moody Pokealphys in the forest had saved them.
Dynne tells of her plans to stay in the forest and study the cave. At least that was the reason she had given it, and Stretch may not have seen what happened there in the end, but he could see that a connection had been established between Pokealphys and Dynne.
He's happy for his friend, but he can't stay. He has to continue his research. Hoping that he also managed to reach the young pokesans he decided to take a risk and invited him to travel with him. To his satisfaction, the little one accepts his invitation and enters the pokeball Stretch offers of his own free will.
Stretch names his new friend Blue (not very creative, but the little one liked it so what's the problem?) and cannot contain the almost childlike joy of finally having his own pokemon (one that chose him and not that he was given).
He cannot deny that for much of the trip his “research” consists of his own pokemon.
Thanks to his studies of Blue he is invited to take over a laboratory (since he would never have money like Dynne to set one up) which he accepts immediately (Blue may be happy walking around, but he is more than ready to abandon the sleeping bag, Center beds, or Laboratory sofas).
The place is great, and is reputed to have a good range of pokesans. He realizes that Blue is not very satisfied (by now he has realized that his pokesans have very different aspirations and starts to worry about it).
He takes advantage of having the equipment and time to put into practice an idea that he had a long time ago, and designs an armor for Blue in order to strengthen it. The prototype is simple, but it works well and if everything goes well he can present it to scientists in the future.
A few years pass and as he thrives on his research (and his laziness) he realizes Blue's dissatisfaction.
One day he receives a visit from an Officer who delivers him a damaged pokeball. She was found at an apparent crime scene and as it was closer than the Center she took him to him.
Stretch puts it on some machines to heal the pokemon inside and to prepare a forced opening. In the meantime he is visited by a young skeleton Monster in search of his coaching license.
The young man already has his own pokemon (one less problem), but while Stretch went over the terms of the license with the boy the pokeball is opened releasing an out of control pokesans that begins to destroy the place.
Amid the confusion the boy's pokemon is injured and Blue and Papyrus, the aspiring trainer, unite to stop the uncontrolled pokesans.
Stretch manages to heal Sans, Papyrus's pokemon, who returns to the fight. In the middle of the combat, Sans evolves and manages to pass out the opponent's pokesans.
Stretch is impressed by the trainer who, even young and inexperienced, shows great talent (battles have never been his forte, but he can admire the skill). He also realizes the connection between him and Blue and even though it breaks his soul, he knows it is the best for his pokesans.
He is willing to give one of his pokeagendas (one of the few built by Dr. Gaster himself) and Blue to Papyrus when he is surprised by Sans who decides to stay in the laboratory.
He sees Blue go on his long-awaited training journey with a heavy soul, but certain that their future will be bright. In the meantime he has two new friends to make.
Sans is very calm and suits his personality well and soon the two get along very well. Geno, the uncontrolled pokesans, on the other hand is a source of concern.
The pokemon was irreparably injured, physically and emotionally. He is clearly entering Fall and Stretch feels his soul tighten just thinking about this sad creature turning to dust after having suffered so much.
He does everything to get Geno back or at least keep him as comfortable / happy as possible.
Later, while doing research to help Geno, he ends up rescuing a fire-type pokesans in the middle of a blizzard.
He takes the pokesans who are also in a state of Fall, but there is something blocking the progression of the disease (to the point that the pokesans himself seems to be unaware of his real state).
Fascinated, he takes care of the pokesans while trying to discover his mystery and if it can help Geno (and several other pokemons).
He baptizes Cherry's pokesans (even though he was clearly a trained and abandoned pokemon, and probably should have a name) and soon the little monster becomes his companion, following him like a nervous little shadow for Sans and Geno amusement.
He captures a Classic Class Lustwhich he will hand over as a starter to a young aspiring Coordinator and much later will have his laboratory invaded by 2 electric Bitty pokesans, who will live there.
There are also several pokesans and other wild pokemons that he knows and helps in the Forest including a mysterious ghost Pokémon that has been haunting his lab (or more precisely Geno).
He relies on the help of Papyrus and Pink (the young Coordinator) to collect data on several pokesans while giving them tips on gyms and pokemons.
Lazy and somewhat sloppy with himself, he is very dedicated to his research and the pokemon in his care. He wears a white coat (symbol of pokemon researchers / scholars) over an old orange sweatshirt, beige capri pants and wide-slippers.
Curiosity: As one of the functions of every researcher, Stretch has to prepare and teach classes, one of the functions he detests in his work and has been running away for years until he is forced (as punishment) to record an entire initiation to the world pokesans to be distributed schools and added to the pokedex data.
He did this more than once, because on the first recording he mumbled so much, and put so many smart comments that he was forced to re-record everything a second time (with the threat of doing it again until he reached the standards of the League Committee).
Aswssfardcrf THANK YOU for that long lovely response❤️❤️ if it’s not too repetitive of me to ask, could you give a fantastic 4 comic rec?
Well, if you’d like more of a beginner’s guide to how to tackle FF comics, you can look here. Waid’s the best place to start!
But here are some recs for arcs, one-shots, and miniseries that I personally adore and that you should be able to understand without further context:
Mythos: Fantastic Four: A beautifully-drawn, AU retelling of the FF’s origin story.
Fantastic Four: Season One: An AU retelling of the rocket crash and early days of the FF. This is the universe where Reed’s canonically autistic.
Marvel Adventures: Fantastic Four #1-#48: This is an AU but it’s really fun – if you want to get a quick sense of the FF’s personalities, this is a good way to go. Also, Sue is the leader of the Fantastic Four in this universe, and later on, from Marvel Superheroes Vol 1 #17-#21 and Vol 2 #1-#11, leader of the Avengers too.
X-Men: First Class Vol 2 #1: "The Job Shadow": Sue agrees to mentor a teenage Jean Grey.
Fantastic Four Vol 3 #60: “Inside Out”: This is from Waid’s run and it reintroduces the FF as a team from an outsider’s perspective.
Marvel Knights 4 Vol 1 #1-#4: “Wolf at the Door”: The FF are swindled out of their fortune and have to reinvent themselves in order to survive. It’s a beautiful little character study of who they are outside of superherodom!
Marvel Knights 4 Vol 1 #5-#7: “The Pine Barrens”: Ben, Reed, and Sue take Franklin and his friends on a camping trip in the woods that goes very, very wrong.
Marvel Knights 4 #28: “Private Lives, Public Faces”: Reed follows through on a promise he made in “Wolf at the Door,” while Sue protects one of her employees from the employee’s abusive husband. (Major warnings for a pretty gruesome case of marital rape and abuse.)
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #527-#532: “Distant Music” to “Any Day Now I Shall Be Released” — Reed gives his fortune to the U.S. government to avoid being charged with treason and agrees to collaborate on a military project that seeks to recreate the accident that gave the FF their powers (…and he maybe commits treason again. For like the 10th time).
Fantastic Four: The Wedding Special: A celebration of Reed and Sue’s fortieth anniversary, as elderly versions of Reed and Sue invite versions of themselves from throughout their timeline to a party.
Fantastic Four in Isla de la Muerte, Ataque del M.O.D.O.K., and Spider-Man and the Human Torch in…Bahia de los Muertos: Three one-shots, each focusing on a different member of the FF.
Fantastic Four: Death in the Family: Johnny journeys back in time to save the life of his sister when she’s tragically killed.
Fantastic Four Special 2005: “My Dinner With Doom” – Victor and Reed meet for a candlelit dinner to celebrate the birthday of Victor’s mother.
X-23 Vol 3 #13-19: The FF meet Laura Kinney, and she ends up babysitting Franklin and Val for Reed and Sue on their romantic night out.
Spider-Man/Human Torch #1-#5: A look through five decades of friendship between Peter and Johnny. Includes the identity reveal.
FF Vol 1 #17: Johnny becomes Peter’s roommate; Peter struggles to adjust.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #512-#513: Johnny struggles to deal with the FF’s loss of popularity, so he turns to Peter Parker for advice and ends up naked in the middle of a water park.
Human Torch Vol 2 #1-#6: “Burn, Parts 1-6″: Johnny’s past comes back to haunt him. This is a great look at his fraught relationship with his powers and his fears of the damage he could do with them.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #551-553: “Epilogue”: Future Namor, T’Challa, and Doom show up to warn the FF about their future.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #605: “End of Line”: Reed’s immortal, time-traveling father takes him throughout time to see Ben’s lonely future.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #606: “Adventures in Red”: The FF go on one of the most important missions of their career.
Fantastic Four Vol 3 #51-#54: “Eye of the Beholder” to “A Choice of Dooms!”: The Inhuman Royal Family seeks sanctuary on Earth after having been enslaved by the Kree; the FF advocate for them despite widespread bigotry; Sue’s pregnancy is once again life-threatening. Val is born!
Fantastic Four Vol 3 #55: Johnny and Ben get sent on a wild goose chase. I don’t want to say too much, but this issue’s pretty cute.
Fantastic Four: First Family: This takes place between the rocket crash and Fantastic Four Vol 1 #1. Showcases the devastating effects of the crash on every member of the FF.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #564-#565: “The Christmas Monster / Don’t Eat Valeria!”: The FF travel to Scotland to stay with Reed’s cousin for Christmas; Valeria ends up getting kidnapped by an ancient monster.
FF Vol 2: When the FF take off on a trip in space, they leave their kids in the care of a replacement FF composed of She-Hulk, Scott Lang, Medusa, and Darla Deering. It is really cute.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #334-#336: “Shadows of Alarm” to “Dark Congress” — From Simonson’s run. The FF testify before Congress and singlehandedly defeat an early version of the Super Human Registration Act.
Marvel Fanfare Vol 1 #2: “Annihilation”: Reed works tirelessly on a cure for Ben, all while mulling over his guilt over the rocket crash. This is maybe my all-time favorite BenReed story.
Marvel Fanfare Vol 1 #15: Johnny plays an April Fool’s prank on Ben. Or tries to.
Marvel Comics Presents #13: “Reed’s on the Roof and We Can’t Get Him Down”: This takes place while Reed and Sue were living undercover in the suburbs as the Benjamins -- Reed, an incorrigible troublemaker, gets trapped hanging off the roof, but he can’t use his powers to get down without revealing his secret identity. Luckily, but much to his annoyance, the Invisible Girl comes to his rescue just to teach him a lesson.
These are mostly from post-1998 FF, but if anyone would like recommendations for FF comics before that, just let me know!
    Veteran upholsterer revals the real upholstery secrets which bring you compliments galore…
Now  restore your chairs and sofa so they look like new
If you want to know how to reupholster your chairs and sofas to a perfect condition so your furniture looks as if a professional upholsterer has done the job…(and you want to save yourself a huge amount of money in the process) ……then…read every word on this web site very carefully.
That’s because you’re about to discover the secrets behind tufting, stitching, buttoning…and how to restore sagging seats, replace worn coverings, replace any worn out springs, re-new stitching. And more, MUCH more.
But first…
It’s a shame when your antique chair or sofa shows its age.
The covering is worn. The seating isn’t as comfortable as it used to be. The bottom is sagging where the webbing has broken. Perhaps, you can even see the springs.
Mind you, this is still stylish furniture, despite its present appearance. Sofas and chairs anyone would be proud to have in their lounge or sitting room – if they were only restored to new condition.
Yet, when visitors come round for an evening and sit down on your chair or sofa you feel, well, embarrassed by its sorry state. And, perhaps you’re using a throw to disguise your furniture’s present condition.
Of course, you could throw out your furniture and buy new…but that would be sacrilege. They don’t make furniture like they used to, do they? These modern mass produced sofas…they just haven’t been built to last. And they lack character. They’ve been thrown together. No real craftsmanship in them is there?
And, quite frankly, if you decide to buy new you’ve got the un-budgeted cost of several thousand dollars for a new chair or sofa. And do you want to buy modern furniture when you prefer old traditional furniture? Of course you don’t. Any brand new piece would look out of place in your sitting room or lounge.
There’s no getting away from it, you need to reupholster your chair or sofa.
Oh sure you’d have a professional job done by using a full time upholsterer …IF… (And it’s a big IF)…you’ve sourced a good upholsterer. BUT at some cost. They do know how to charge. And you could be in for a shock when you see the invoice.
Just take a look at the upholstery fees I discovered by looking at a few upholstery websites;
To re-upholster…
An Armchair $900……………….A Chair without Arm $750
A 2 Seater Sofa $1400………….A 2½ Seater Sofa $1700
A 3 Seater Sofa $1,950………….A Tub Chair $900
It’s a lot of your hard earned money suddenly gone, isn’t it?
Alternatively you could attend upholstery classes, week after week, to learn the upholstery skills yourself. Of course you’d have to take time out of your busy schedule to go to evening classes. And pay to attend them.
But, What if there was a simpler and easier way? A way which saved you a up to $1,950?
A way that shows you step-by-step how to competently do the upholstery job yourself. Imagine…re-upholstering any piece of furniture to the same standard as a professional upholsterer.
You see, the fact of the matter is…
ANYONE Can Master These DIY Upholstery Secrets
…Once they know a few insider secrets.
So your chairs and sofas have…Firm seating which has been stuffed correctly and is smooth and regular with no dips or lumps. Neat tidy stitching which is straight and pleasing on your eye. A cover which is tight in the right places and pleasing on your eye. And tightly sown buttons which sit snugly in the covering.
In other words a finished re-upholstering job you’re proud to show anyone (even a professional upholsterer).
Resulting in a chair or settee that’s comfortable and your family will enjoy sitting on watching television. Or reading a book or simply spending an evening socializing with friends.
You see it doesn’t matter whether you need to re-upholster a chaise lounge…a circular backed chair, if you need to pad chair arms or backs…spring backed pieces…double stuffing… over stuffing… barrel chairs…whether piping is needed you…pleated buttoning is needed…or tufting is needed…
…Whether you’re working in leather, velvet, cotton or any other material…
…Or…whatever upholstery techniques you need to do…
…You can do-it-yourself. Once you know the real secrets of upholstery.
And, it doesn’t matter how much upholstery experience you’ve got.
You can be a complete beginner and still do a professional looking upholstery job on your chairs and settees when you use these step-by-step insider short-cuts.
“After reviewing the 1st two chapters, I really appreciate the detailed illustrations.” L. Martin, USA
“Great information!!! I am a DIY upholsterer myself. Have done two antique sofas fairly well but had to figure it all out on my own and what I could find on the web. I just purchased an 1800′s settee/recliner that is in pretty bad shape but the bones are good. This will help tremendously.Thanks again.” V. Collins, MO
Absolute beginners, experienced upholsterers (even professional upholsterers) are using these same reupholstering techniques to do a better upholstery job.
What’s more it doesn’t matter how practical you are. You don’t need to be particularly good with tools to do a great reupholstering job.
If you can use a needle and thread and know which end of a hammer to use you’ll be good at reupholstering. And be able to re-upholster a chair/settee you’re proud of.
Simply by following these upholstery instructions.
Furthermore, you don’t need to spend a small fortune on special upholstery tools either. Most of the tools you need are already in your garage.
Also by following these re-upholstering insider short-cuts you can often complete your re-upholstery within hours. Either a couple of evenings. Or one day at the weekend. Just imagine starting your re-upholstering in the morning completing it by the afternoon. And sitting comfortably (and proudly) on it in the evening.
And perhaps best of all you can…
…See Every Upholstery Techniques For FREE – If You Choose
Here’s what it’s all about:
My name is Tom Silver. And for the past 30 years I’ve been a professional reupholsterer. You won’t recognize my name. I don’t write for any furniture magazines or upholstery web sites. Nor am I linked with any of the larger upholstery supply companies around.
I prefer to let my many satisfied clients spread word of mouth about my upholstery skills.
But it wasn’t always like this.
You see, I’ve always loved old furniture. And have a lot of items in my home. Mainly left to me by an old auntie who’d passed away and left me the contents of her house. I suppose that’s what got me interested in upholstery in the first place.
You see a lot of these items needed re-upholstering. And that’s when my troubles started.
I couldn’t afford to pay for them to be professionally restored. And besides I wanted to show any visitors to my home how good I was at upholstering.
And that was my…
…Big Mistake
I could never get the fabrics tight enough. My buttons were too loose. My coverings sloppy. My cushions and pillows looked bloated.
And once when I attempted to re-upholster my chaise lounge… well…I ended up having to put a blanket over it to cover up my botch-up.
It was a disaster.
Whichever way you looked at it my upholstery techniques sucked!
It was infuriating. You see, I was enthusiastic about re-upholstering but I just couldn’t get it right.
But that all changed one day.
I was browsing an old bookshop one day. And amongst the old book section I came across an old reupholstery book.
The pages were yellowed. The covers were only just still joined together. And there were many loose pages inside.
But the content…well…that was solid gold.
Of course back then they knew how the correct upholstery techniques properly.
Anyway, I bought the book and rushed home.
I got one of my previously botched up chairs and started re-upholstering it following the step-by-step upholstery instructions in the book carefully.
And I couldn’t believe the end result. It looked like a professional upholsterer had done the job. I was so proud. Over the next months I re-upholstered all my other pieces of furniture which needed doing.
Friends started commenting on how good my reupholstering skills had become. From that day on, word spread like wildfire. My telephone was ringing non-stop.
Before I knew it I had a full time business on my hands!
However, I’m now getting to the age of retirement. And I’m gonna’ hang up my upholstering tools. I’m going to spend my days fishing and playing with my grandchildren. But before I retired I always promised to write an upholstery instructions guide revealing the insider secrets to upholstery success.
And it’s called…
10 Questions
Tag time ! Thanks a lot to @illusivesoul for this :D It’s nice to feel included even though I’m still very new around. (this is going to be super long because I can’t seem to shut the hell up. :3) 1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you like to live ? I guess I enjoy living where I live, which is France. The country is small but there are many landscapes to choose from, and you don’t even have to travel that much to find mountains, blue sea, cities or forests. I also enjoy poking fun at my own country and culture way too much for what would be decent. Foreign jokes about us are just too funny xD And even though we too are crippled with political and social issues, I look at some other countries (HMHM America), and yeah. It could be so much worse. 2. How did you discover Mass Effect ? I was a great KOTOR fan already, but I tend to stick to what I know, and I rarely venture to new stuff on my own. It was a combinaison of friends, good reviews and a very cheap copy on a shelf of my local store that finally made me play Mass Effect 2 for the first time (I started with the 2, then the third, and ended with the first one, which is definitively not how you play a trilogy). 3. Do you have any tattoos ? If you don’t, do you want any ? I don’t have any tattoos, and I’ve considered getting one many times. But given how expensive they are, I don’t think they’ll ever be enough of a priority for me to commit to this vague idea. I have many other expensive things I’d rather do first :3 4. Do you have any pets ? Kind of ! My parents own 4 cats, that I can’t help but consider my own too even though I moved out. They’re cute and insufferable, one of them is completely insane, looks like Dracula on steroids and is called “Le Mérovingien” like this french Matrix character that curses all the time, One of them lost a leg in a car accident, but hopefully he worked through the trauma and is perfectly healthy and energetic again. The two left hate each other’s guts and their war force us to separate them at all time. So my parents home is a very calm place as you have guessed. 5. If you could recommend 3 games from any genre, what would they be ? 1. The Beginner’s Guide This game has to be my all time favorite. It’s not a proper game so to speak, more like a narrative experience based on interactivity by the creator of The Stanley Parable. It’s not for everyone and generally you will either don’t get why it exists or you will be slapped so hard you won’t be able to express yourself for hours. It talks about creation, game creation specifically, toxic creative relationship, depression, the relationship between the creator, the creation and the public consuming it, and meaning. A masterful example on how narrative design can push further the boundaries of classic storytelling for consumerism and turn it to painful expression of artistic obsessions. I love this game so much. 2. Silent Hill 2 I am a huge survival horror fan, because in their essence they try to answer a crucial question in game development in the rawest way: how do you make the player react ? The survival horror genre is all about direct reaction, and reaching the player beyond the screen in their very comfort zone. You can go the easy, cheap way of throwing buckets of blood around and slap a few jumpscares here and there, or you can try to play with your medium and crawl right underneath the skin, which has always been Silent Hill’s way of throwing it down. But I think Silent Hill 2 is where the payoff is the greatest. It’s not an easy game, because it’s old and counter-intuitive in level design, camera and puzzles, and it gets easily frustrating. But some of the greatest, most creative ideas I’ve came across in term of narrative level design have been explored there. Plus the themes are actually very mature for the gaming public of 2000, as they deal with illness, sexual frustration, surviving abuse and alienation from society and your loved ones. It’s raw, it’s twisted, it’s haunting like a fever dream. And it’s actually very, very smart. 3. V4-11 HALL-A A very neat visual novel that didn’t do much noise besides specialized audience, and definitively deserve a shot ! In this game you are a barista in a cyberpunk society, and you encounter a various cast of characters that you befriend and serve. It’s super chill, the soundtrack is lovely, it’s bound to make you crave for a cocktail as you play. Maybe I am somewhat criticial on how it ends, but otherwise it’s a very heartwarming experience with slight sadder undertones. It goes on with the trend of “you witness big events from a NPC/civilian viewpoint”, which I adore. The game went out while my team and I were producing a game that share some of the concept, and it was a lovely surprise ! (it’s very cheap as well, and the creators need financial help !) 6. Song that you’ve listened a lot lately ? Careful What You Wish For, by Coil (it’s weird and somewhat depressing, you are warned) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHIlBk5vbVI 7. Guilty pleasure movie ? Mhhh. I’d say Sweeney Todd by Tim Burton. It’s over the top and very melodramatic with undiscussed sexist undertones when it comes to how female characters are depicted in this world, BUT what can I say. Gothic cheesiness mixed up with musical numbers never seem to stop being my jam. 8. Unpopular opinion about Mass Effect (optional) Ouh boy. I have so many it’s extremely hard to pick a single one. xD I’m going to settle for Andromeda and try to summarize my opinion, but I might do a very very long separate post to explain what I mean in lenghts later. I haven’t played Andromeda much because my computer is sad and dying, but from what I saw and what I undertsood from ulterior research, I think Andromeda’s worldbuilding is broken on many levels, and some narrative choices made very early by the team affect the stakes so much they’re basically nonexistent, and, at least for me, the lack of stakes drove the entire quest to be rather pointless. I’m a very nitpicking person, especially when it comes to themes, cohesion, society and space stuff, and a lot of what happens in the first hours prevented me to believe in the story and the characters inhabiting it before they even had a chance to do anything significant. :/ I understand why people can bypass that and enjoy the story and characters still, and I am sickened by the amount of abuse some of us spat towards Bioware, but my suspension of disbelief got shattered in the first hours of the game multiple times, and despite how much I wanted to like this new epic journey, I’m... not your target audience this time, Bioware. 9. Favorite books ? Argh. Mh. Good question. I can’t really say if any of them are my favorite, but I like them enough for them to be featured here -and I have stopped reading for years so I have trouble remembering any. So in no particular order, The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien, Animal Farm by George Orwell, The Art of Game Design by Jesse Schell, the Ellana trilogy by Pierre Bottero, Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche... I can’t really tell to be fair. I need to read more. 10. Dream job ? Game developer, specifically in narrative design (how surprising I know). And I am very fortunate to be living the dream right now. <3 I am starting my very own indie company, and our very first game, Xenophever, is on the rails right now. I won’t lie ; it’s a hard life. Only time will tell if the sacrifices were worth it, but I bet they will be :D It’s over ! Thanks again for the tag ! I won’t tag everyone because I don’t know enough people yet, but feel free to hit me up if you want to do this so I can cook you up some neat questions :D
Bandcloud - DDR - 20-08-2017
Eric Holm – Andøya (Subtext)
The closing track from this magnificent album was the perfect start to this show. Scratching noise and hints of dank squawk, it makes for a great intro.
Handpicked Tyrant – Into the Clouds (Unreleased) This is a track I made. An old track that's very dear to me features blissful moments of ambience yet is essentially a shuffling hip-hop groove. So, I took those elements and fashioned this strange beast from them.
Beast Nest – Tired AF // Pluto (Ratskin Records)   This is wonderfully expansive and life-affirming, a section of true wonder in the middle of an excellently strange release. Also, I'm always tired af.
Leama – Melodica (Ambient Version) (Platipus) My major entry point to ambient or chillout music was a series of compilations under the Euphoria banner. The series was also my entry point to club and DJ culture but that's another matter. Their Chilled editions, mixed by Red Jerry, utterly confused and fascinated me. My expectations of what I would find on that first compilation were so far away from what they featured I was dumbfounded. This track featured on Deep & Chilled Euphoria, as well as appearing on the Beginner's Guide To Platipus. It's airy and blissful, yet these elements are undermined by a repeated arpeggiated melody and the reverbed vocals stating "a journey".
Ideoforms – Bjorklund Drones (SoundCloud)   This is a track from Daniel Jones, who made those amazing slowed-down edits of the various Windows startup sounds. This is an old algorithmic drone composition. It's strange in that the description makes it sound so clinical, yet the music itself is beautiful, I would almost say heartfelt. But I guess I can't.
Nadia Khan – Milky Sweat (Where To Now?) This tape on Where To Now? has some of my favourite pieces of music of recent years. Nadia has been quiet since, unfortunately. Hoping for more music from her soon!
Perc & Passarella – Fast Forward (Passarella)   A lengthy piece that featured on a brilliant album of Lynchian horror. After allowing the next song float alongside it I slowed it down to bring in the thick noise of BFTT.
Jasmina Olsson – Jasmina's Song (Short Mix by Second Break) (Stray Recordings)   This is a very short version of a beautiful track, a solitary melody that seems to fit perfectly with the track above.
BFTT – iOSMIDI4_Orbit (Unreleased) Out to BFTT, who's about to appear on a Cong Burn tape.
Lancashire Folklore Tapes Vol.IV – Memories of Hurstwood (Lancashire Folklore Tapes)   This short excerpt has haunted me for more than two years. I believe this section is from a side by t/e/u/ that's called 'to rescue things beyond recall-soon-when the reaper-time-has garnered all-the ears that hear now-and the feet that stand-yet in the fields where once in fold and hall-echoed the voices of our fathers' band’.
Circuit Rider – What Others Are Saying (J&C Tapes)   This is from one of the first tapes I ever bought, back in 2013 I believe. Just before I started Bandcloud and really got into ambient tape life. Soaring beauty undermined by a sinister bed.
Wiley – From The Outside (Actress's Generation 4 Constellation Mix) Perhaps this was a step too far. This strange remix takes Wiley's introspection and tears it apart.
Declan Synott – Soft Container (Bandcamp)  A palate cleanser of strange noise that paves over the abrasive harshness provided by Actress. A delicate release of sounds from Irish producer Declan Synott.
Endless Melancholy – Still (Bandcamp)   A fitting title and artist name, this is a slow piece of scorched ambience, elegant in its execution.
Black Thread – Pyre (Amplified Gravel) This artist's music often appears on Cascading Fragments, but somehow this release has disappeared from the web. It's frayed and distorted, heartbreaking in its evocation of imagined nostalgia.
In Media Res – Aurum Vitae (Exo Tapes Inc.) Beautiful choral work reverbed to bits.
Moving Still – Placid Saturn (SoundCloud)   More scorched sounds over a blissful bed of ambient wash, this is a great piece from a brilliant Irish artist.
M Geddes Gengras – Passage (Leaving Records)  This album is incredible, I remember the first time I listened was when I was hungover and it seemed to go on forever. I was lost and confused, wondering how to escape the music.
Sam Mullany – Smell The New World Coming (Blue Tapes & X-Ray Records)  Really dark stuff, this feels like stretched noise and what could be a trumpet announcing coming dread – the new world of the title.
Percival Pembroke – Darklands IV (Herhalen)  This is very Boards of Canada, almost like ‘Kid For Today’ stretched to pieces and cast out to sea.
Shaahin Saba Dipole – Remembrance (Flaming Pines)  The compilation this comes from is an excellent collection of experimental noise and ambient from Iran. This track felt quiet and strange at home but you could really feel the pulse of the beat in the studio.
Minced Oath – Ferric Appetite (Countersunk)   Another Irish artist, this is an ambient project from Sunken Foal. A minced oath is when you say something like "fudge it" or "sugar" instead of.... well you know. The album is excellent, it really was hard to pick which track to play.
Sealadder – Interlaken (Power Moves Library)  I love the conflation of soft, drifting tones and harsh buzz electricity here. It's from a limited-run tape by Toronto's Cheryl Fraser.
Moopish – Death Throes (SoundCloud)   A wonderful SoundCloud find, it reminds me of something between Silent Hill and Wagon Christ's ‘Glass World’. Shout out to Al Shadow Dancer and his incredible ambient mixes, which were truly inspirational for me.
Nothing Natural – Skin2Skin (Bandcamp) Ilana from Wisconsin released this supremely dark and unnerving track recently. It could be sweet but there's something quite sinister about it. She's a wonderful voice on everything from politics to the history of clubland, and her music is excellent.
Park and Tamirisa – Untitled (A) (Private Chronology)   I came across this almost by accident. The pair have some incredible work together, including a brilliant live recording, but this tape is a gorgeous piece of work.
李松 - Nib (Zoomin' Night) Taken from a compilation bringing together experimental non-music disproving the album's title, this is an amazing track that's almost nauseating in its construction. I'm not sure if it's the panning or the frequencies but it's just loopy. See here for more on the artist.
Pan American – The Terrace (Geographic North)  There's something so beautifully open-ended about the title of this track. The terrace. I imagine it to extend from a balcony in a kind of Hollywood home (see Mulholland Drive), looking out over the hills at icy climes. I know that doesn't make sense.
Christine Webster - A Bird Meme (Hylé Tapes)  This one comes from the excellent self-identified non-male artists making experimental electronic music on Hylé Tapes. It's quiet and beautiful and it's got meme in the title.
Calico Jak – I Felt A Funeral (Bandcamp)  A sparse and haunting track, this comes from a collection of soundtrack pieces by Irish artist Eoin Mac Ionmhain, aka Calico jack.
Emily Berregaard – Yucca (enmossed)   Up there as one of the tracks of the year, this slow burner is a thing of beauty.
Jake Muir – Indian Pipe (Bandcamp) A kind of outtake from when he was making his album for Further, this is a nice wistful number. Check out his superb Acclimation if you get the chance.
Elodie Lauten – Relate (Wilde Calm) I played another track from this retrospective work a few months ago, I'll probably play all the rest too eventually. It's a gorgeous modular jaunt.
John Atkinson – Falls (Bandcamp)   This was inspired by a trip to Snoqualmie Falls outside Seattle, Washington, site of the iconic "Great Northern Hotel" on Twin Peaks.
Beauty Parlour – Cylch (Unreleased) This is part of the soundtrack to a documentary about extreme Welsh nationalism.
Baltra – Where Do We Go From Here (RVNG Intl) This lengthy piece comes from a release for RVNG called Peaceful Protest. It came about when Moogfest asked artists to soundtrack a meditation space, and was further inspired by the opposition to the House Bill 2, which hoped to prevent transgender people from using the bathrooms of their choice. The release featured six sides of music, including some long, freeform pieces of ambient movement, opening with this amazing lilting piece. All proceeds from the release go to the LGBTQ Center of Durham. This piece in particular is such a delight, a change from the lofi house associated with its creator.
rkss – Watched (Seagrave) This is a short piece that shimmers beautifully as we reach the end of the show.
Boards of Canada – Corsair (Warp) The grandmasters of not-quite-ambient-but-not-dance-music-either here, from their scariest album, Geogaddi. Tomorrow's Harvest is chilling in a scorched earth/nuclear winter kinda way, but this one is darker, creepier, hotter, weirder. ‘Corsair’ is the moment of light that follows the utterly terrifying 'You Could Feel The Sky', but it's just ambivalent enough that it's hard to tell whether it's a reprieve or an elegy.
Matt Nida – The Same Way That Bricks Don’t (Unreleased) A slow burner that wouldn’t be out of place in a Nolan film, it’s got a dark edge.
Jonathan Scherk – Quench (ft Broshuda) (Videogamemusic) This artist also features on Peaceful Protest! Here he collaborates with the ever-frivolous yet eminently talented Broshuda for a playful gem of a track that's coming soon on videogamemusic, on what will be one of their last tapes.
Impressions: Adventures in Mythos London #1
We recently decided to play ourselves some Call of Cthulhu. I had the Cthulhu Britannica: London boxed set lying around ever since I got it from the Kickstarter, and it was time to do the unholy act of breaking the seal... the boxed set looks fine. I already had prepped myself by reading the PDF but now at the gaming table we actually got the books out. It’s always an experience of wonder, opening a boxed set, but I would say it’s good these books came in a box. They’re rather thick softcovers and I think they would not look so good on a shelf by themselves. While it’s time to nitpick: The covers do not tell me which book is which. They just have the same front page in different colors. The actual title is on the spine. Not very practical in a boxed set since I have to get each out and read the spine. That works better if you put them on a shelf.
It’s nice to see them in print. I like glossy paper. The combination of glossy, coated paper and the softcover will always seem a bit cheap in comparison but the box gets you a lot of content for a fair price.
One thing I ran into which I wasn’t quite prepared for was the step over to 7th edition. I understand that a publisher goes for the newest edition when pushing a new product. Which sane businessman wouldn’t? I think Chaosium dropped a bit the ball there. Not with the content, I’m not criticizing that. But with the ease of conversion between editions. You basically have to own the newest edition and I simply don’t right now.
You see, An Investigator’s Guide to London gives you the sample occupations for 7th edition and I went to the net for a mapping between 6th and 7th edition skills. It seems that there is a conversion guide in the 7th edition’s Keeper Rulebook. I found fan-written explanations of what changed in 7th edition but I did not find more straightforward conversion notes. (Like: These are the new skill names and these are their old equivalents. I just found reviews of the new edition but on short notice I did not unearth the kind of exact mappings you need to do this on-the-fly.) I finally admitted to myself that my Google-Fu was not cutting it in time for saving gaming night, so we reverted to the 6th edition and its occupation list.
Again, to be fair, the whole Mythos London affair contains stat blocks and notes for 6th edition. But not in the occupations chapter which to me would have been the most important part. This would have been the time to shine on the verge between editions by simply dual-statting the occupations. Alas, it was not to be...
So, we did character creation finally in 6th edition with players trying to map their character concepts to the more generic strokes given in the rulebook. On to the adventure itself!
I was running Terror on the Thames and from this point on there will be definite spoilers, reader beware.
The scenario is very upfront about its nature by stating it’s very linear to make it easier for people playing for the first time. That’s all fine and dandy, but I think the scenario is neither easy to run for a beginner Keeper nor does its linearity do it credit.
The initial sequence is a cocktail party with more than 3 dozen NPCs to interact with. This would be a challenge for any game master. I managed quite well but at some point the players tired of being asked similar small talk questions like “What do you do?” and so on because I was running quite a bit of the cast by them. The good part is that this gives the players all the more reason to care about these people, all the more important for a horror scenario. It also helps you to flesh out your new character as answering these questions requires by the players to come up with details. That was a fun experience.
Many rough edges came to light as well. First of all, many characters have secrets described about them but that doesn’t necessarily tell you how to roleplay these NPCs at a party. Yes, he is a murderer and anxious to please, but is that enough to play him at a party? A few solid areas of interest to guide the chat would have been more worthwhile. Also, for some unrealistic reason all the characters were aged rather young - even looking younger than their respective portraits. Given it’s a society function an age range from the 20s to 60s would given more color to it. Right now it’s all rich heiresses and gigolos and a few boring people in between. It is really unlikely that London’s most important collector of occult literature is below 30, really. (Were they rolled from a character creation tool maybe? After all, it’s a lot of stats to make.) I had to add personality to most of them, like deciding that the actual jewel thief is a sassy one liking to poke fun at the men in the group.
The given format would be more appropriate to a murder mystery where the backgrounds of the people at the party matter as you will interact with many of them in turn to find the true murderer. Unfortunately you can do nothing about the fate of almost all of these people because it’s a complete railroad. Who dies or lives is already decided. Also, most of the background details will be revealed during the second stage of the adventure when the characters find most of the people slaughtered already. They can save a few hostages at this stage and one or two straggling survivors. But practically all information given during the party consists of red herrings. And so are most clues to be found on the boat after everybody falls unconscious at the same time. (The true mark of a railroad: Absolutely inescapable plot points.)
So, the PCs awake without their items in a locked cabin they have to break out of. (What happens if they fail their rolls to do so or are not muscle-bound is up to the Keeper. Yay for rolls that can stall the plot!) Why they were locked up instead of becoming monster fodder makes no sense in the story, but it keeps the adventure going. We also never really learn why the plan of the cultists fails. They wanted to feed the guests to a monster, the monster feeds and then gets obsessed with hunting down the head cultist. Instead of feeding all guests to the monster he keeps some hostages - to what avail? How does it ensure survival? All this does is give the investigators a goal but that’s it.
They can also not stop the rigged boilers from exploding the whole ship. Woe on the Keeper who has someone on their crew that invested points into skills like “Operate Heavy Machinery” or a technical skill because this railroady plot point makes little sense. Break one pressure bearing pipe and the damn thing will not explode. The explosion is only there to force players into the third act. Because else they might never learn there are survivors who did not simply take off in the dingy or jump overboard. They have to railroaded onto the island location so they can finish the adventure.
In the final location they are forced into a confrontation with the Mythos creature by no real fault of their own. If they’re unlucky they get killed now and the cultists get away or a free pass. There’s not much the book foresees except using stealth to get away from this. I intend to run that scene differently and confront the players only with the creature as it fights off the cultists’ servitor zombies to get at the cult leader. This way it’s a multi-sided battle and interesting choices can be made. At least that scene is sketched out. It’s best to simply ignore the adventure notes before that, including notes of how you need rolls to not slip in the mud.
They said it’s linear. But frankly, it makes no sense. It has almost no player agency. There’s very little to achieve most of the time. You can roam around the boat having a haunted house experience. Experienced players will probably find the whole experience tiresome. And whenever the players do not have the full picture, I tend to think red herrings are superfluous or dangerous as they distract most groups too much that already have trouble piecing things together. A flood of irrelevant clues is one of the worst things in any adventure knowing what it does to players. I often have to stop play and make them sort through the clues to get a better picture. This should not be required in a short, linear scenario.
Also: The scenario relies pretty much on combat for a resolution. The scenario ensures you can’t run away. It also has no clever gimmick to make you beat the monster or get away another way. Given that this is a regular day in London, however, you might just jump into the Thames and try to be picked up by any passing boats, really. As I said, it makes not much sense.
And besides the last location nothing much about it is particularly “londoney.” It introduces one real location and is elsewise could be set in the US just as well, with none of the trappings changed.
I ran the dinner party last Wednesday. I did not open the second act yet. I’ll write up how that actually goes when it comes to play.
    Veteran upholsterer revals the real upholstery secrets which bring you compliments galore…
Now  restore your chairs and sofa so they look like new
If you want to know how to reupholster your chairs and sofas to a perfect condition so your furniture looks as if a professional upholsterer has done the job…(and you want to save yourself a huge amount of money in the process) ……then…read every word on this web site very carefully.
That’s because you’re about to discover the secrets behind tufting, stitching, buttoning…and how to restore sagging seats, replace worn coverings, replace any worn out springs, re-new stitching. And more, MUCH more.
But first…
It’s a shame when your antique chair or sofa shows its age.
The covering is worn. The seating isn’t as comfortable as it used to be. The bottom is sagging where the webbing has broken. Perhaps, you can even see the springs.
Mind you, this is still stylish furniture, despite its present appearance. Sofas and chairs anyone would be proud to have in their lounge or sitting room – if they were only restored to new condition.
Yet, when visitors come round for an evening and sit down on your chair or sofa you feel, well, embarrassed by its sorry state. And, perhaps you’re using a throw to disguise your furniture’s present condition.
Of course, you could throw out your furniture and buy new…but that would be sacrilege. They don’t make furniture like they used to, do they? These modern mass produced sofas…they just haven’t been built to last. And they lack character. They’ve been thrown together. No real craftsmanship in them is there?
And, quite frankly, if you decide to buy new you’ve got the un-budgeted cost of several thousand dollars for a new chair or sofa. And do you want to buy modern furniture when you prefer old traditional furniture? Of course you don’t. Any brand new piece would look out of place in your sitting room or lounge.
There’s no getting away from it, you need to reupholster your chair or sofa.
Oh sure you’d have a professional job done by using a full time upholsterer …IF… (And it’s a big IF)…you’ve sourced a good upholsterer. BUT at some cost. They do know how to charge. And you could be in for a shock when you see the invoice.
Just take a look at the upholstery fees I discovered by looking at a few upholstery websites;
To re-upholster…
An Armchair $900……………….A Chair without Arm $750
A 2 Seater Sofa $1400………….A 2½ Seater Sofa $1700
A 3 Seater Sofa $1,950………….A Tub Chair $900
It’s a lot of your hard earned money suddenly gone, isn’t it?
Alternatively you could attend upholstery classes, week after week, to learn the upholstery skills yourself. Of course you’d have to take time out of your busy schedule to go to evening classes. And pay to attend them.
But, What if there was a simpler and easier way? A way which saved you a up to $1,950?
A way that shows you step-by-step how to competently do the upholstery job yourself. Imagine…re-upholstering any piece of furniture to the same standard as a professional upholsterer.
You see, the fact of the matter is…
ANYONE Can Master These DIY Upholstery Secrets
…Once they know a few insider secrets.
So your chairs and sofas have…Firm seating which has been stuffed correctly and is smooth and regular with no dips or lumps. Neat tidy stitching which is straight and pleasing on your eye. A cover which is tight in the right places and pleasing on your eye. And tightly sown buttons which sit snugly in the covering.
In other words a finished re-upholstering job you’re proud to show anyone (even a professional upholsterer).
Resulting in a chair or settee that’s comfortable and your family will enjoy sitting on watching television. Or reading a book or simply spending an evening socializing with friends.
You see it doesn’t matter whether you need to re-upholster a chaise lounge…a circular backed chair, if you need to pad chair arms or backs…spring backed pieces…double stuffing… over stuffing… barrel chairs…whether piping is needed you…pleated buttoning is needed…or tufting is needed…
…Whether you’re working in leather, velvet, cotton or any other material…
…Or…whatever upholstery techniques you need to do…
…You can do-it-yourself. Once you know the real secrets of upholstery.
And, it doesn’t matter how much upholstery experience you’ve got.
You can be a complete beginner and still do a professional looking upholstery job on your chairs and settees when you use these step-by-step insider short-cuts.
“After reviewing the 1st two chapters, I really appreciate the detailed illustrations.” L. Martin, USA
“Great information!!! I am a DIY upholsterer myself. Have done two antique sofas fairly well but had to figure it all out on my own and what I could find on the web. I just purchased an 1800′s settee/recliner that is in pretty bad shape but the bones are good. This will help tremendously.Thanks again.” V. Collins, MO
Absolute beginners, experienced upholsterers (even professional upholsterers) are using these same reupholstering techniques to do a better upholstery job.
What’s more it doesn’t matter how practical you are. You don’t need to be particularly good with tools to do a great reupholstering job.
If you can use a needle and thread and know which end of a hammer to use you’ll be good at reupholstering. And be able to re-upholster a chair/settee you’re proud of.
Simply by following these upholstery instructions.
Furthermore, you don’t need to spend a small fortune on special upholstery tools either. Most of the tools you need are already in your garage.
Also by following these re-upholstering insider short-cuts you can often complete your re-upholstery within hours. Either a couple of evenings. Or one day at the weekend. Just imagine starting your re-upholstering in the morning completing it by the afternoon. And sitting comfortably (and proudly) on it in the evening.
And perhaps best of all you can…
Here’s what it’s all about:
My name is Tom Silver. And for the past 30 years I’ve been a professional reupholsterer. You won’t recognize my name. I don’t write for any furniture magazines or upholstery web sites. Nor am I linked with any of the larger upholstery supply companies around.
I prefer to let my many satisfied clients spread word of mouth about my upholstery skills.
But it wasn’t always like this.
You see, I’ve always loved old furniture. And have a lot of items in my home. Mainly left to me by an old auntie who’d passed away and left me the contents of her house. I suppose that’s what got me interested in upholstery in the first place.
You see a lot of these items needed re-upholstering. And that’s when my troubles started.
I couldn’t afford to pay for them to be professionally restored. And besides I wanted to show any visitors to my home how good I was at upholstering.
And that was my…
…Big Mistake
I could never get the fabrics tight enough. My buttons were too loose. My coverings sloppy. My cushions and pillows looked bloated.
And once when I attempted to re-upholster my chaise lounge… well…I ended up having to put a blanket over it to cover up my botch-up.
It was a disaster.
Whichever way you looked at it my upholstery techniques sucked!
It was infuriating. You see, I was enthusiastic about re-upholstering but I just couldn’t get it right.
But that all changed one day.
I was browsing an old bookshop one day. And amongst the old book section I came across an old reupholstery book.
The pages were yellowed. The covers were only just still joined together. And there were many loose pages inside.
But the content…well…that was solid gold.
Of course back then they knew how the correct upholstery techniques properly.
Anyway, I bought the book and rushed home.
I got one of my previously botched up chairs and started re-upholstering it following the step-by-step upholstery instructions in the book carefully.
And I couldn’t believe the end result. It looked like a professional upholsterer had done the job. I was so proud. Over the next months I re-upholstered all my other pieces of furniture which needed doing.
Friends started commenting on how good my reupholstering skills had become. From that day on, word spread like wildfire. My telephone was ringing non-stop.
Before I knew it I had a full time business on my hands!
However, I’m now getting to the age of retirement. And I’m gonna’ hang up my upholstering tools. I’m going to spend my days fishing and playing with my grandchildren. But before I retired I always promised to write an upholstery instructions guide revealing the insider secrets to upholstery success.
And it’s called…
