SKK relationship reveal but it's because Dazai wants to prank the agency and give Kunikida a stroke by announcing his relationship with one Nakahara Chuuya. Just that... no one is shocked or surprised and says "Oh yeah, we knew. Congrats" and Dazai goes "wdym you knew???"

Dazai is like "ITS A PRANK!!! HAPPY APRIL FOO- wait NO???? that was NOT HOW THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO GO WE ARENT ACTUALLY DATING" and the ADA goes "uh huh. sure."

i truly think nearly every my chem song has more than one meaning (this is true of most things) but also that many of those meanings are contradictions and thats the point because that's the heart of my chemical romance: an enterprise which is both fake shrouded costumed performed and also the most genuine thing on planet earth

This post from @imminent-danger-came got me thinking about the sun in TDP, well, and let's look into it

First things first:

The Sun in TDP is, currently, set in the most opposition to dark magic. Some of this is because the other primals are relatively unexplored (Earth), are thematically adjacent to dark magic (Moon because of death/deception, Star for obvious reasons, Ocean more recently) or exist on a meta level but not an in-universe one, i.e. Sky magic is set in opposition to dark / star magic through Callum ("my breath for freedom") but we don't know enough about Skywing culture / seen enough Skywing elves to know anything beyond him.

Meanwhile, the absence of the Sun is often seen as synonymous with dark magic

and/or is used to purify / hide and reveal dark magic within the text.

There is a reason, after all, that Karim believes if he can heal Sol Regem's eyes — if he can get rid of the dark magic — that it will let Sol Regem "convince [his people] that the sun will shine again." That Karim thinks "the sun will never shine again for me" is related solely to the physical affects of dark magic, and none of the emotions Sol Regem has felt ("I lost my hope long before I lost my sight").

We see this dichotomy of light being more good and nighttime/darkness being more bad even in S1, as Harrow and Viren hope to find the Moonshadow elves ("in the light of the day") before they become unstoppable / death incarnate at night and at the Cursed Caldera, in which Ellis asserts that come nightfall, "the nightmare is about to begin".

However, as you can probably already tell, this relationship of Sun vs dark magic as oppositional forces is already more than muddled just as the dichotomy of light = good and dark = bad in the show is, too.

We see this prominently with the repeated combination of corrupted Sun magic not only in the hearts of cinder spell that Viren used the relic and sun staff to create, but also in Claudia's continual wielding of the corrupted sun staff

and in Karim's employment of Kim'Dael. Karim just implied that humans allowed evil (dark magic) to flourish because they were weak ("You are lesser beings") just as Sol Regem believed, and it seems Pharos is thinking along the same lines here: isn't Kim'Dael "evil" because she uses dark magic too?

Because she's a Moon dark magic, and the opposite of the Sun and purity and light in every way he can think of, even when Pharos — a Sunfire priest who believes in Karim — has been corrupted and infected, too. And yeah some of this is to point out Karim being hypocritical and losing his way and inevitably things, such as him having the Sun Seed, are not going to go according to plan.

But I do want to take it one step further and say that the Sun — seeing a new day — is not necessarily void of dark or Star magic-y connotations, after all.

Whether it's the importance of the Sun's first light, spoken by mages who are either unknowingly (and likely to be) pawns of Aaravos

or that doing dark magic and playing into Aaravos' hands would've secured Viren seeing a new day.

Although dark magic is, seemingly, more associated with night because, well, darkness, obviously...

It's not just that the Great Orb was corrupted, but that Lux Aurea itself fell, giving way to corrupted creatures, infected by another combination of Sun and Dark magic

It's that dark magic, I think, grows and festers and consumes everything until light and dark — day and night — are synonymous with each other, until they become a singular thing like Aaravos. That there's no escaping it. There's no "choice".

Or at least, that's what it wants you to think.

He has to stop adventuring with Kai if he's going to get these cryptic responses. "Why do you have to remind me …?" Sou utters it under his breath but he doesn't particularly care if it's audible. Animals were one thing but he would like to conveniently forget that there are monsters roaming this island. Adjusting the beanie sat on ruffled hair he tries to ignore that piece of advice to keep trudging through the foliage that surrounds them. Despite how warm he feels under everything he's wearing there's no temperature in the world that would provoke him to take any of it off. Okay, maybe no temperature was slightly dramatic but it wasn't hot enough to strip. There's an underlining insecurity he feels at the thought of exposing bare skin to a stranger, and a more present fear that overexposing himself left him more vulnerable to anything with an appetite or an appendage sharp enough to break skin.

"So comforting … " If his mood could get any worse it has. Kai offered him absolutely no solace in an already undeniably dangerous situation. Sou only pauses once he notices something's caught Kai's attention and by default his own as well. A glance over his shoulder and he's suddenly captivated by the branch and what little fruit it bears. "Aha, Kiwi? I guess they aren't really my favorite fruit but they'll do." He would prefer something that wasn't quite so sour but he also knew being too picky could quite literally be the death of him. "If it's the only thing out here, I could probably survive off of Kiwi."

What concerns him is that this tree that Kai's found doesn't seem to be plentiful in the fruit, giving pause to any train of thought that might have suggested this was the beginning of the end of their mindless adventure to gather. Sou supposed any spoils were good spoils (in the long-term) but shouldn't they look for something more promising? "Should we look for more Kiwi? I'm not really a cook, I know that's your territory but I doubt one would be enough, right?" Although truthfully he isn't sure how Kai is making anything remarkable out of such limited resources but he would try not to question the chef … too much. "Are there any ingredients you're looking for specifically? Is there something that you're running out of?"

he can take a hint: really, he can. they're just not that into him and it's fine. he only texts once before he lets it go, but when they're suddenly at the same party again...well, who is he to deny fate? he slides up to them at the bar, a stupid smirk already fixed on his face. "hey, there's something wrong with my phone." he gives them a faux perplexed look, holding up the device with their latest texts on display. or, more like his latest texts, considering that she hadn't responded to that thing he'd said at three in the morning. "i don't think your texts are delivering, or something like that. what do you think is going on here? can i get some tech support?" there's a bigger chance that she's actually just been ignoring him but he gives her a playful smile, not paying that possibility any mind.

Was thinking it over that Callum giving up info/doing dark magic to save Rayla in 5x08 is indeed the equivalent of her leaving in Through the Moon (“As long as we love each other, as long as we protect each other” “I was trying to protect him” / “I knew I had to be strong alone” + Callum not telling her about what he did / “All that talk about how love makes you stronger, but the second that elf girl in pain, you completely lost yourself” “I have to be strong, no matter what, and if you said even one word to me, I wouldn’t - couldn’t be”). 

And Rayla is still set up to be the one to save Callum from brainwashing/his imposed ‘destiny’ in S6, probably tying together her arc regarding sacrifice and her well, refusing to sacrifice Callum even for the good of the world. Which means also having to save her - from death, from Aaravos, and subsequently risking the world for her as well - is still on the goddamn fucking table I am Losing my mind
