and "is it considered acceptable or gauche to mix and match botanical designs when building an outfit?" (like should u only have a one-flower or motif theme???) or "only if they are the same season?" (bc i have a lotus-pattern brocade for a top layer) (or does it not even matter? bc xianxia is not historical?)

Listen there are people who believe that dark stories are always definitionally superior (artistically, intellectually) to happy stories. I’ve met a couple. But the notion that those people are in any way a majority - let alone a majority ON TUMBLR, the Everything I Like Is Hopepunk And Everything I Dislike Is Grimdark Cynicism For Edgelords website - is utterly baffling to me ngl. With full acknowledgment that it’s possible for people to have different experiences, this is so entirely outside my experience. I’ve never seen even ONE person saying this on Tumblr. I can’t even claim that it’s because my dashboard is well-curated - I’ve never gone out of my way to avoid this opinion because I’ve literally never encountered it here!
