ok i have an official addition to this in a notes convo with @devilsrecreation

so bunga asks timon and pumbaa about what it was like to raise simba and they recount the events of tlk 1 1/2 to him and he gets excited and asks kiara and the guard to come over and listen to the story. ono gets very concerned about the dangerous stunts they did in the jungle. fuli is skeptical, having a hard time picturing the now king doing something like that. beshte is the most attentive, with him and bunga hanging on to every word. kion, meanwhile, has a full blown existential crisis thinking of his dad as a former hedonist. kiara is curious, surprised, and a bit disgusted (bugs aren't her thing).

so then simba happens upon the gathering and asks about it and the guard start asking him questions about growing up in the jungle and he's a little embarrassed at first but he gets more into it upon recalling the fun he had. meanwhile, bunga is out gathering snails and brings back an armload for him and simba to slurp on and at first, he's like "no really, I couldn't" until he slurps down five of em in two seconds. and that's how bunga started unofficial eating contests with the king.

thinking about Timon, Pumbaa, and their kids 🥺

maybe once a year, Timon and Pumbaa put on a big bug buffet in the jungle for anybody who wants to come and Bunga and One help them gather bugs for the big event. maybe they have trouble finding some of the rarer ones so Simba gives em tips on where to find them (he still sneaks the occasional insect snack once in a while)

This has been my headcanon for YEARS, but like—

Y’all ever wonder if Rafiki played matchmaker with Timon and Pumbaa?

I mean…

Who told Timon about Hakuna Matata? Rafiki.

And who did Timon meet just hours after speaking with Rafiki? PUMBAA.

And when Timon couldn’t remember the words “Hakuna Matata” later on, after they’d settled into their jungle oasis—

WHO SAID “EH, HAKUNA MATATA” AFTER TIMON SNAPPED IN FRUSTRATION?!?

PUMBAA.

So… where’d Pumbaa learn that phrase?!?

I think Rafiki spoke to both of them that night. And I think maybe he sensed Pumbaa was lonely and sent him in Timon’s general direction 👀

thoughts on the tlk movies?

Legit my favorite Disney movies of all time. The original is actually perfect in every way, from the Hamlet-based storyline to the characters to the songs (✨chef’s kiss✨)….PERFECTION.

I LOVE how the deleted Scar and Nala scene was actually put into the musical instead of forgotten like the other deleted songs like “To Be King” and “Warthog Rhapsody”. Those are pretty good, but have nothing on “Hakuna Matata”. Although the scrapped version of Timon and Pumbaa mockingly singing “Can you feel the love tonight” will never NOT be funny

TLK2 was amazing as well! Definitely one of the better disney movie sequels out there, plus Zira ROCKED as a villain! Nice how we got some depth on Simba where he obviously isn’t perfect, but he means well and eventually comes around yk?

I’ll admit I haven’t seen TLK 1 1/2 from start to finish, but I’ve seen most of it and it’s ICONIC. We get to dive into Timon’s backstory and how he met Pumbaa AND THERE’S HYENA CONTENT? Like HELL YEAH. Also love the direction they went in story-wise. They COULD have had nothing to do with the OG movie until they met Simba but nah, they canonically were always there, we just never saw them until Simba was unconscious in the desert. Like they were there during “Be Prepared” watching the hyenas and also happened to be in the gorge running from the stampede

Although my favorite part has to be where Timon “proposes” to Shenzi as a distraction and she’s just there DUMBFOUNDED bfhfhrhrtf

Eight years ago today, “The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar” premiered on the Disney Channel:

The television sequel to The Lion King, and midquel to The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, follows Kion, the son of Simba and Nala as he assembles a team of animals known as the Lion Guard, to defend the Pride Lands and protect the Circle of Life.

Originally pitched in June 2014 in tribute to The Lion King’s 20th anniversary Return of the Roar serves as the pilot to its follow-up series, The Lion Guard, which aired from January 15th, 2016, to November 3rd, 2019.

Happy anniversary to the protectors of the Pride Lands, and defenders of the Circle of Life!

Tried my hand at another Lion King 1 1/2 screencap redraw. Tried to make Timon more closely resemble his TLK 1994 model. The colors were fun to figure out, because there isn’t actually any examples of Timon in the Pridelands at the ass-crack of dawn in the original TLK. 😂

I’ve been studying that original Lion King style really hard, so I hope that comes out here. 😬 The expression was interesting to tackle because Timon’s eyes don’t really do those micro-expressions in the first movie.
