The Best News of Last Week
1. A branch of the flu family tree has died and won't be included in future US vaccines
A type of flu virus that used to sicken people every year hasn't been spotted anywhere on Earth since March 2020. As such, experts have advised that the apparently extinct viruses be removed from next year's flu vaccines.
The now-extinct viruses were a branch of the influenza B family tree known as the Yamagata lineage. Scientists first reported the apparent disappearance of Yamagata viruses in 2021.
2. Hospitals must obtain written consent for pelvic and similar exams, the federal government says
Hospitals must obtain written informed consent from patients before subjecting them to pelvic exams and exams of other sensitive areas — especially if an exam will be done while the patient is unconscious, the federal government said Monday.
New guidance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services now requires consent for breast, pelvic, prostate and rectal exams for “educational and training purposes” performed by medical students, nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
3. Germany approves new law that will allow adults to carry up to 25 grams of cannabis for their own consumption and store up to 50 grams at home.
Germany's upper house, the Bundesrat, cleared the way to partially legalize cannabis on Friday. Adults aged 18 and over will be allowed to carry up to 25 grams of cannabis for their own consumption.
4. Tick-killing pill shows promising results in human trial | Should it pan out, the pill would be a new weapon against Lyme disease.
Tarsus Pharmaceuticals is developing a pill for humans that could provide protection against the tick-borne disease for several weeks at a time. In February, the Irvine, California–based biotech company announced results from a small, early-stage trial showing that 24 hours after taking the drug, it can kill ticks on people, with the effects lasting for up to 30 days.
5. Thailand moves to legalise same-sex marriage
Thailand has taken a historic step closer to marriage equality after the lower house passed a bill giving legal recognition to same-sex marriage.
It still needs approval from the Senate and royal endorsement to become law but it is widely expected to happen by the end of 2024, making Thailand the only South East Asian country to recognise same-sex unions.
6. French Revolution: Cyclists Now Outnumber Motorists In Paris
Official measurements have found that Paris is rapidly becoming a city of transportation cyclists. In the suburbs, where public transit is less dense, transport by car was found to be the main form of mobility. But for journeys from the outskirts of Paris to the center, the number of cyclists now far exceeds the number of motorists, a huge change from just five years ago.
7. 'Miracle' operation reverses blindness in three-year-old girl giving her 'promising' future
A three year old with a genetic condition that causes blindness is doing incredibly well after unique pioneering operation to restore her sight.
The UK is the only country performing keyhole eye surgery to inject healthy copies of a gene into sufferers’ eyes. It is being used to reverse blindness in children born with a rare condition which means they can only distinguish between light and dark. And it has given little Khadijah Chaudhry, born with Leber congenital amaurosis-4, a chance at seeing properly again.

[O'SEA] Osomatsu x Tea - Yumeship Acc
Note: I interact with sharers btw!!! :3c
Trope Appeal:
Friends to lovers, new old flame, childhood friends, the power of love, "just friends", everyone sees it but them, red string of fate, physical touch, acts of service, slow burn, birds of a feather, playboy settles down, sweethearts
If you care to ask any questions... Please do!! ❤️ I've also included
More Info Down Below!!! ↓
Tea Rose ティローズ | They / Any | 20's | 5'2 ft (158 cm)
Previously a financially irresponsible codependent alcoholic hikkikomori NEET, Mx. Rose now lives on the grounds of a graveyard at the edge of the district. Moving on from the mistakes of their past, Tea's adamant on making the right choices from now on. They're a sweet-hearted worrywart, flirty, shy, and optimistic. Tea is humble, caring, and follows a strict moral code. They love being creative and all forms of art & expression. They tend to believe they're always second-choice but they're an adept emotional regulator. They're private, and struggle to open up. They strive for perfection and hold themselves to those standards unfairly- it takes someone just as stubborn or simply reasonable to lower their walls.
Common attributes/symbols: roses, crosses, black nail polish, graveyard, frills / ruffles, v-neck, collar / chokers, worried face, smug face, blushing face, sky blue, black, red, mustard yellow, white
Common activities/hobbies: hanging out with Osomatsu, eating food, painting traditionally / digitally, & enjoying nature, dancing, reading, gardening, playing video / board games
Setting: graveyard where they live / work at is surrounded by a thick forest of oak and pine trees, Akatsuka is a prefecture in Tokyo, and any canon locations
You can draw them with:
Osomatsu Matsuno (friend -> lover) - Oso is 5'7 and Tea is 5'2. They're both physically affectionate and love food and lazing around. They often fall asleep on accident.
Matsuno Household (platonic / familial) - The brothers are also 5'7. Matsuyo & Matsuzo are taller than Tea.
Your OC/SI (platonic) - Tea is friendly and outgoing! They're a doer and prefer to be active during social outtings.
Additional stuff to keep in mind: Tea has a tattoo on their inner left wrist, their inner left forearm, on both outer ankles, on their inner upper right thigh, and on the back of their neck. They have a birthmark by their bellybutton in the shape of a heart and a surgery scar on their upper right arm.
Osomatsu Matsuno おそ松 松の | He / Him | 20's | 5'7 ft (170 cm)
Osomatsu is laid-back, foolish, and has low ambitions. He feels that he has the responsibility of being the eldest brother. He is not a fan of losing. He is a lech with a good heart. He's thought of as a bland, shitty face with nothing special in characteristics about him and has identity issues. One of his favorite phrases is one spoken by his own creator, "This is how things should be!". This all transforms with Tea, as he realizes what's comfortable for him is at stake, but he's willing to brave that pressuring territory and do things proper with them. He finds value in things he previously deemed hassles or wastes of time, including his self worth. He's challenged by Tea's entropy but drawn to it.
Common attributes/symbols: beer, money, mahjong, kissy face, bedhead, horse racing tickets, red, pine family crest, pervy face, relaxed face, tired face, red, black, rust, brown, cream
Common activities/hobbies: day drinking, gambling, smoking, lounging, fishing, eating food, flirting with Tea, drawing and crafting, being included, reading (mostly manga), watching videos / TV
Setting: same as Tea including the graveyard area since he visits so often he basically lives there
Additional stuff to keep in mind: My Osomatsu has a chronic bedhead on the back of his head, the hairs point downward. Tea has a strict sobriety so he doesn't drink around them too often since he's willing to sober up to be with them.
Other things to keep in mind: They both go back and forth of who is more forward and who is more shy. They're in a spot where they flirt exclusively but avoid confessing- they're still honest with each other about how much they care. Their arc is about maturing together and living life proper.

Could you maybe do something with a ftm reader who has a lot of scars and tattoos especially on his back and like Ghost sees him shirtless for the first time? Without Ghost knowing your trans? And it just being fluff and a little bit of angst?
If you don't feel comfortable doing this its okay!!
Sincerely: a very cool person
His priority is your well-being, not some scars you have.
Summary: You have been shot, and Ghost, as your comrade, helps you treat the wound. What could go wrong?
Pairing: Simon "Ghost" Riley x FTM Reader

warnings: SWF content, "Ghost" '22, transphobia is mentioned, post-surgery scars are described, military, soldier! reader, blood, wounds were mentioned, reader gets shot.
word count: 592
Being transgender in the military wasn't easy. Sneaking into the shower right after everyone had left to just take a shower, just without anyone knowing. Just to make sure no one judges or looks weird. It wasn't easy in the army. The service here was even harder…
Being wounded in the line of duty was not unusual, even the best soldier could receive a scratch. And even now you are leaning against some old tree in East Asia. Things never go according to plan, that's part of the job.
Eyes barely open, this job is not for the weak. That's why you clench your teeth while Ghost starts pulling you out of your gear to put bandages on your gunshot wound on shoulder. Of course you wish you could do it by yourself but right now you priority was to not get infection.
"Keep your eyes open, soldier." Ghost’s harsh tone didn’t let you relax even for a second, which was probably for the best. He didn't pay much attention to your tattoos or scars, figuring he could take a closer look at them once he stitched you up.
You feel his gloved hands slowly pour the alcohol onto your shoulder. Sharp pain simply drowned out all your thoughts. Every cell of your body felt like it was on fire. "Fuck! Be gentle, I’m bleeding.” You spat as soon as you unclenched your teeth. Everything hurt so much, your mind could barely focus on one thought.
"I'm well aware of that." He said that once he found the nearest piece of cloth to cover the bleeding, he would help you get to your feet and get to the nearest evacuation site.
He picked up the radio and said something, but you could barely hear what. Only thing you got was that he said that you had been shot and you both needed to evacuate as soon as possible. He probably said something else, but your head hurt, along with that damn shoulder that felt like it was being cut off, slowly, piece by piece. His skillful hands quickly tightened some fabric on your shoulder. And without giving you time to come to your senses, he picked you up, throwing your good arm over his shoulder. “The evacuation helicopter will be there in a few minutes. Get back on your feet."
You both slowly walked towards the place Ghost lead you to. Only now did you remember that he probably saw your scars… Those top surgery scars that you covered with everything you could. Those scars that you hid. These white lines are right under your pecs. You worked hard to make them hard to see. But neither cream nor some beaty products could remove them. A constant reminder of who you were born…
Anxiety rise in you, your stomach became a tight knot. You're afraid that he saw the scars that you tried to hide. “So, about what you saw…” You were afraid he might tell someone. The military was not the most acceptable place. Here you will have to fight not only on the battlefield, but also earn your place among others.
“I don’t care who you are, lad. My job is to keep you alive, not to pry into your personal life.” His words can be harsh and cold. But you don't see any condemnation here. He considers you his equal. Ghost wasn't the nicest person, but he wasn't an asshole who treated you differently just because you weren't like him.
The rescue helicopter was visible in the distance…

Lance had to be euthanized tonight. Within a very short amount of time he displayed a high amount of distress. Hunched posture like he needed to poop or puke and panting which is something he almost never does (much like a cat). Halfway to the emergency vet his gums were quite pale and he'd started whining in pain.

The clinic staff took him back immediately and in a very short time came back and explained his stomach had twisted. I knew it had been caught very quickly so I didn't think necrosis would be an issue but at his age a major surgery would be a risk and recovery would be long. At 13 years old even in great health I wouldn't assume much more than a other couple of years of life left and for a quarter of that to be recovering from surgery would be a significant reduction in his quality of life. When I asked the vet's opinion she said she'd choose euthanasia if he was her dog.

I agreed and I will admit I thought she was being overly cautious in her prognosis of how the surgery would go but when they brought him to me to day goodbye his stomach was already seriously distended in just the 30-45 minutes we'd been there. When we arrived his stomach looked like he'd just had a big meal was all. At that point I realized she wasn't being overly cautious and that euthanasia was the right decision. If he'd been even just two years younger I'd have made a different decision (and the vet agreed with that too), but at 13 with a $10,000 price tag (and the additional stress of needing to travel to a different emergency clinic for the surgery because the one we were at was too busy to be able to do the surgery in time) it was too much of a risk and wouldn't have been fair to him, me, and anyone else helping us.

I'm thankful it was something quick, that he only had a couple of hours of pain. I'm so glad that he got to enjoy his last days basking in the sun in a big backyard, using the trampoline as his own personal dog bed, and enjoying the love and attention from a whole family of people on a daily basis.

He changed my life completely. The day I was matched with him as my service dog was a crossroads and my life would have been unrecognizable if I'd taken the other path. Until I met him I hadn't discovered anything I was passionate about, and because of him I've been able to help so many people. Because of him I was able to help save lives.

I know he's going to be missed by so many people, and I know he will be greeted on the other side of the rainbow bridge by so many friends.

He has been buried under the apple tree with his grandma Vimy.
I'm gonna miss you buddy. Thank you so much for everything you've given me. You were the best first dog ever.

Remembering the victims: Kayden Clarke

Kayden Clarke made headlines last year when he was featured on Huffington Post in a viral video with his service dog Samson. Clarke trained Samson to help him when he was suffering from the symptoms of [Autism]. Clarke called these symptoms "melt-downs" and they involved attempts to harm himself by, for example, banging his head on walls or hitting himself. "I've got some awesome, awesome news. So my insurance fully pays 100 percent of my gender reassignment surgery. I'm so happy. I'm excited. I'm ecstatic," said Clarke in a YouTube video that he posted on December 14 last year to his account under his preferred name, Kayden Clarke. Friends describe Clarke as unusually gifted in the training of animals. While she too misgendered him, his mother told the New York Daily News that Clarke was a generous person who donated Christmas trees to persons in-need despite being on a fixed income.
https://www.advocate.com/transgender/2016/2/06/arizona-trans-man-shot-and-killed-police-his-own-home
According to YouTube videos that Kayden had posted, Kayden had encountered numerous roadblocks to transition, including the failure of multiple mental health professionals to respect either his gender identity or his Autistic identity. Kayden said in his last video that he was particularly devastated after a therapist told him that she would not approve his starting on hormones until after his autism spectrum disorder – which she referred to as a “disease” – was “cured.” Because autism has no “cure,” this amounted to a pronouncement that Kayden would never be eligible to transition. Kayden was frustrated that, although his [Autism] diagnosis was included in his file, that therapist had apparently performed no research on autism prior to meeting with him and declaring him ineligible for hormone treatment. In light of the numerous suicide attempts that Kayden had described as related to his gender dysphoria, we cannot ignore the possibility that this failure to provide adequate care placed Kayden at heightened risk of experiencing a mental health crisis such as the one that gave rise to the call to the police who killed him. Instead of responding appropriately and supportively, police entered his home armed with lethal weapons. Only one of the three officers had received crisis-intervention training. Officers claim that they shot Kayden after he approached them with a knife. Although it may never be possible to know exactly what happened due to the police department’s failure to equip the officers with body cameras, we note that Kayden’s death strongly resembles the shooting of Teresa Sheehan, a California woman with mental illness who was shot nine times while experiencing a mental health crisis. Upon finding that Sheehan was holding a knife, officers failed to take reasonable measures such as waiting outside the building for backup and instead entered Sheehan’s room and shot her. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals later ruled that, by failing to follow best practices in de-escalation despite knowing that Sheehan was in mental health crisis, the police might have violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.
