Hey guys! Thanks for stopping by, I'm excited to get started on here!
I'm gonna go into a bit more detail under the cut, but TLDR, I've made a new blog to document the process of my next big quilting project, which I hope to enter into the AQS 2025 Lancaster show.
Why I'm Doing This
A few weeks ago we went to our local state fair specifically to see the handicrafts section and got inspired by all the quilts there. I've been wanting to step back from fandom stuff and work on more original pieces, and I've always wanted to try entering more contests, so I figured a quilt show would be a perfect thing to work towards.
I want to do something that's showy and has room to embellish as much as I want without being overly complicated. I've decided to rework my phoenix pin design:
Tumblr media
(Sorry about the pixelation/anti-theft stuff I can't get Glaze to work on my computer lol)
How It Will Be Assembled
I'm going to build the quilt in two parts:
The background is pretty simple, just a matter of squares and long strips to frame out a section filled with applique leaves and apples (I was too lazy to redraw it here just imagine it lol).
The bird itself will be sewn onto gauze and then placed onto the background as a last step. The pieces are fairly large blocks of color, the embellishments will be dealt with through painting, embroidery, and beading. This will allow me to work on detailing the bird without dealing with the bulk of the background.
The applique pieces will be fused background and then sewn together with decorative stitching/embellishments. I think the actual quilting itself will be tracing the basic shapes and trying to be as neat as possible while doing so.
Sizing
Since I'm hoping to enter this into a contest, I needed to size it to fit within the contest dimensions. I've settled on a quilt that's about 70" by 50", which is a little shorter than the 72" height limit and totally within the width limits.
Materials
Fortunately I think I have most of the materials I need on hand, at least for the quilt top. The design will be primarily batiks (my beloved), although the bird will probably require some additional iridescent textures and layering.
Math is hard but I think for the background I'm going to need:
30 x 52 Blue background
50 x 1.5 strip yellow cubes
50 x 1.5 strip blue cubes
four 5.5 x 5.5 corner squares
two 2.5 x 52 red side panel
two 2.5 x 30.5 red top/bottom panel
two 1 x 52 yellow side panel
two 1 x 30.5 yellow top/bottom panel
eight 1 x 52 black side panel
eight 1 x 30.5 black top/bottom panel
eight 1 x 6 black corner frames
203 inches of 2” black binding
assorted green, brown, gold (tree applique)
The bird will be primarily made of fat quarters and 1/4 yard strips, plus lots and lots of scraps.
To be honest I another reason I am making the background first is so that I can adjust the background as needed since I have a bad feeling the numbers don't quite add up.
Timeline
The deadline for the contest submission is May 8th but I'm hoping to be done before that. I'm roughly planning the following schedule for benchmarks:
End of Sept - Have all materials and cut background pieces
End of Nov - Have background assembled, minus binding
End of Dec - Bird pieces painted as needed and the base of the bird has been fused together and onto the gauze background
End of Feb- Bird embellishments done, bird trimmed and sewn down to the background
End of April- Quilting complete
I'm hoping to take some time off of work in October to really get a head start on all of this, so fingers crossed progress goes smoothly. Wish me luck, and thanks for joining me on this adventure!

Wait a damn minute. What is Phoenix eating? How do the boys deal with bird poop and keep her beak from getting too long?
Phoenix has plenty of natural ways to keep her beak trimmed, such as climbing the mall's palm trees and opening nuts and seeds, but she also has a number of toys to help keep it neat. She eats the same thing that y/n eats! Fruits and veggies from— well, you'll have to wait and see :3
As for bird poop, she's been trained (like many parrots) to only poop in certain areas. This doesn't mean the cleanup process is any less tedious, though!

“Strange Doorways” - Inktober Day 20 - Uncharted
I am self indulgently drawing a scene from my own fic - To Being Again - Chapter Six - A Doorway. In which Iroh dreams of his first visit to the spirit world - and what’s more uncharted in ATLA than the spirit world?
I have spent all day wondering if I choose the wrong tree for this fic. Does it really exist as described? I do remember researching last year when I wrote it, but I was writing for Whumptober so the research was very quick… nevertheless an excerpt:
Iroh walked through the grove of ancient cypress trees wearing white robes. The trees were giant, stretching up so far that Iroh could not see the sky. Sunlight sailed down through the green leaves, shading everything in an ember haze. The cypress trunks were massive, so wide it would take three of him finger to finger to form a ring around them, maybe four.
In each trunk, there was a doorway.
One tree had a doorway trimmed in gold, elaborate images cast into the moulding - phoenixes and dragons, kirins and foxes. Some with teeth so vicious Iroh’s skin ached just looking at them, others with expressions so gentle they hurt his heart. Another tree had a green door, tall and rounded at the top, trimmed in brass, with squares inside of squares, divine geometry decorating the massive frame. There were simple doors of wood, unworldly doors of bone, impenetrable doors of ice. There was a garden door - iron and covered in vines - that sounded like it had children laughing on the other side. There was a creaking door, shoddily made with three boards and rusted nails, moonlight creeping through the gaps in the wood - that one made Iroh's heart race.
He just kept walking, walking.
It was a dream, Iroh could tell, but he had been here before.
In the center of the grove, the Munjon spirit sat, waiting for him.
Every time Iroh dreamed of him, he was a bit different - an ostrich horse, a fox, an owl wolf - today, a hawk, but impossibly large, tall as Iroh’s waist. And yet every time he was exactly the same - two faces, one frowning, one smiling. One, Iroh knew, looked to the future. The other to the past. But which was was? There was no way to be certain, and even less way to be certain that the view didn’t chance. Things were always shifting in the spirit world. One moment up was up, then the next it was down, then sideways. Iroh’s true journey into the spirit world had been brief, but it had been long enough to understand that.
“Have you opened a door, yet, Old Friend?” The Munjon asked him, speaking with two voices.
Every chapter is this fic is a standalone story that takes place between Zuko’s banishment and the start of the show - read “A Doorway” here.
That said, the stories do build on each other, so maybe start at Chapter One - “Delirium”

ok so thisll probably be more of a list type of post
i started rewatching rebels AGAIN so of course i gotta think about rebels G'ika
G'ika and Ahsoka stay connected after order 66, they help each other establish themselves and then later Ahsoka convinces G'ika to be a Fulcrum Agent for the rebellion
Ahsoka keeps G'ika away from Rex
G'ika fucks around with Agent Kallus, tricks him and gets close to him and uses kallus for information
Kallus is the one who turns G'ika over to the inquisitorius (later this is suuuuper awkward when Kallus shows up with phoenix aquad LMAO)
G'ika loses an eye to an inquisitor while trying to avoid capture
At SOME point Rex is the one that leads the mission to save G'ika from imprisonment
When G'ika comes back to the rebellion he's basically a shell of a man, he talks to nobody, he can barely function. His thoughts are scattered and he's constantly thrown into flashbacks and is overwhelmed with memories of the inquisitorius torturing him. He tries to help the rebellion but he's frustrated that he can't do as much as he did before. Eventually he puts his effort into support by farming food for whatever rebel base he's on.
i think eventually too all the remaining kyr siblings get together again around gika and help out
Ok anyways thank you for reading sorry if this seems scattered ive been writing this bit by bit today in between trimming a tree doing laundry taking care of baby and watching les mis 🤣 hooray for gika lore i miss gika lore

More Magic Sub-Schools
Finally we have three new sub-schools for the magic school (making fifteen); one more is needed to bring it up to sixteen (four times four, and hence a mystical number), and any ideas for that are very welcome. Tagging @arcenciel-par-une-larme, @merthwyn, @kaleb-is-definitely-sane and @roses-red-and-pink
Rootworkers
The foundation of rootworking is the loa, the rulers of different species of plants and animals, which manifests in various humanoid forms and dwell in realms where the entire ecosystem consists of the animal or plant they preside over. The practice of rootworking is by combining various organic substances in potions while singing hymns to various loa in order to enhance the natural effect of the substance. Rootworkers are located in a vast rounded wooden temple covered in paintings atop a mountain covered in semi-tropical swamps, and they have simbis living in the swamps. Rootworkers wear orange robes with red trim and white headwraps with the names of various important plants and animals embroidered in them, and have orange cloaks with red trim held in place with a gourd-shaped brooch made of carnelian in bronze fittings. The basic rootworking implement is a cauldron, used in conjunction with a rattle and a paddle. Dotting the mountain slopes are statues of various loa, together with altars – anyone who makes the correct sacrifice will come upon a large supply of the loa’s associated plant or animal. The mountain is magically locked in perpetual rain. Rootworkers teach and write their books in Yoruba, they write their documents on iron plates, they write their documents on iron plates, and their heart book is The Eighth and Ninth Books of Moses, which induces temporary possession by a loa if read for too long – the experience is terrifying, but imparts great magical knowledge. The crown is a straw hat with the sigils of numerous loa embroidered into it, and the coronation implement is a large rattle made from a gourd filled with snake bones and on a chain.
Personality: Similar to the witches, but where the witches see nature as a god or a lover, they see it as a business partner.
Unofficial Theme Song: "Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya" by Dr. John
Sages
The foundation of sagecraft is the human soul, which manifests when disciplined as various extraordinary abilities and dwells within the human body. The practice of sagecraft is by a combination of a strict diet, rigorous exercise, contemplative exercises and in particular various forms of meditative martial arts to give the practitioner superhuman strength, speed, dexterity, and so on. Sages are located in a vast pagoda atop a mountain covered in a mix of pine, plum trees and bamboo swamps, and they have a Chinese dragon living in the swamp waters. Sages wear white robes with pale pink trim and rawhide necklaces ending in yin-yang pendants, and have white cloaks with pale pink trim held in place with a plum-tree-shaped brooch made of diamond in gold fittings. The basic sagecraft implement is a shirt and pair of trousers for practicing martial arts in, used in conjunction with a belt. The mountain’s highest point is particularly meditatively powerful, and there are numerous stories of people acquiring spiritual insights simply by breathing there. The mountain is magically locked in perpetual mist. Sages teach and write their books in Chinese, they write their documents on paper scrolls, and their heart book is The Cauldron of Three Powers, which is only very vaguely understood when first read, but reveals more and more as the reader progresses with the exercises in it. The crown is a gold and garnet crown in the shape of a dragon (for men) or a phoenix (for women), and the coronation implement is a scroll with the notable training achievements of the initiate written on it.
Personality: Ferociously, intensely competitive among themselves – sometimes to the point of self-harm – but unflappably polite and approachable to non-members.
Unofficial Theme Song: "Jade Emperor" by unknown performers
Skinchangers
The foundation of skinchanging is the Deep Dream, the consciousness shared by all sentient beings which manifests as the minds of various creatures and dwells within the Deep Dream, a part of the Dreamworld where, untethered by the human mind’s imposition of order, only untethered symbols and phenomena dwell. The practice of skinchanging is by a combination of drumming and chanting while clad in body parts of and clothes associated with a particular animal, calling down their mind and eventually turning into them for a time. Skinchangers are located in a cluster of lavvu atop a mountain covered in ice, moss and lichen and occasional stands of birch and larch, and a troll lives in a cave halfway up the mountain and guards it from unwanted guests. Skinchangers wear dark blue robes with pale blue trim and a pelt of the animal they change into most often on their shoulders, and have dark blue cloaks with pale blue trim held in place with a wolf’s-head-shaped brooch made of sapphire in silver fittings. The basic skinchanging implement is a reindeer-skin drum on a wooden frame, used in conjunction with a beating stick and an animal pelt. The animals on the mountain are known for being calm and approachable – even wolves and bears are friendly to humans. The mountain is magically locked in perpetual snow. Skinchangers teach and write their books in Old Norse, they write their documents on tanned reindeer skin, and their heart book is The Ring Before It Broke, whose pages when turned sound like the cries of various animals. The crown is an elaborate headdress incorporating bear fur, boar tusks, reindeer antlers and eagle feathers, and the coronation implement is a staff made from a broken branch and carved with poetic epithets of various animals.
Personality: Not evil, but easily mistaken for that due to being animalistic – they're protective of their own and distrustful of outsiders, prone to resolving disputes by fighting and use words extremely sparingly.
Unofficial Theme Song: "Grá" by Wardruna.

What to Expect From a Professional Paint Correction Appointment
Paint correction is a precise and multi-step process aimed at restoring a vehicle’s paintwork to a refined, smooth, and reflective finish. It removes surface imperfections like swirl marks, oxidation, etching, and light scratches that degrade the appearance of the paint. For those considering this service, understanding the typical appointment flow helps eliminate uncertainty and sets the right expectations.
Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of what a professional paint correction appointment usually entails.
Initial Inspection and Consultation
Every appointment begins with a meticulous inspection. The technician conducts a walk-around to examine the paint under proper lighting, identifying defects such as micro-marring, water spots, and buffer trails. This stage often includes the use of specialized tools like paint thickness gauges to assess clear coat depth.
During this phase, clients can discuss concerns about specific panels or imperfections. The assessment also helps determine the level of correction required—ranging from a single-stage polish to a more intensive multi-stage correction.
Surface Preparation and Decontamination
Before any polishing begins, the vehicle undergoes thorough cleaning. A high-pressure rinse and contact wash with pH-balanced shampoo eliminate surface grime. Next, a clay bar treatment removes bonded contaminants such as tar, brake dust, and tree sap that washing alone cannot dislodge.
This decontamination is essential for achieving smooth paint and preventing embedded debris from causing new scratches during the polishing process.
This attention to detail is especially valuable for paint correction in Paradise Valley, where desert dust and contaminants frequently accumulate on exposed surfaces.
Paint Measurement and Tape Masking
Professional technicians use a paint depth gauge to map the thickness of the clear coat across different panels. This data is critical when working with vehicles that may have undergone previous paintwork or refinishing.
Tumblr media
Once measurements are taken, delicate trim pieces, emblems, and rubber seals are masked with automotive tape. This prevents damage from machine polishers and ensures that only the painted surfaces are treated.
Machine Polishing and Defect Removal
This is the core stage of the process. Dual-action polishers and rotary machines, along with a range of compounds and pads, are used to refine the surface. Depending on the condition of the paint, the technician may begin with a heavy-cut compound to remove deep imperfections and follow with finer polishes to enhance gloss and clarity.
For vehicles requiring paint correction in Phoenix Arizona, this stage is vital due to the frequent exposure to intense UV rays, which can accelerate paint fading and oxidation.
Each section is polished methodically, often with overlapping passes, to ensure uniform results across the vehicle.
Paint Reassessment and Refinement
After compounding and polishing, the vehicle is wiped down with an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution. This step removes polishing oils that could mask remaining imperfections. It allows the technician to reassess the paint’s condition under bright LED lighting and make final touch-ups as needed.
Multiple inspection passes ensure that the desired level of correction has been achieved before proceeding to the finishing stages.
Optional Ceramic Coating or Sealant Application
Following successful paint correction, many choose to protect the refined surface with a ceramic coating or synthetic sealant. These layers provide long-term defense against UV rays, water spotting, and environmental contaminants.
Ceramic coatings, in particular, offer added hydrophobicity and durability, extending the life of the corrected finish while reducing maintenance needs.
Final Inspection and Client Walk-Through
Before the vehicle is released, a final quality check is performed. The technician reviews the corrected finish under various lighting conditions and removes any remaining masking tape or residue. Clients are often invited to inspect the results and receive guidance on aftercare and recommended maintenance schedules.
This transparent, hands-on conclusion to the service reinforces confidence in the outcome and helps maintain the results over time.
Conclusion
A professional paint correction appointment is a detailed process focused on restoring and preserving a vehicle’s finish. From surface prep to final inspection, each step is guided by technical precision and quality control. Whether booking paint correction in Paradise Valley or Phoenix, Arizona, understanding the process helps set clear expectations and ensures lasting results.

Why Palm Tree Care Should Be a Priority in Tampa Landscapes
Tumblr media
Tampa’s palm trees add more than just beauty—they bring personality to the landscape. From Queen Palms to majestic Canary Island Date Palms, they’re deeply rooted in Florida's scenery. But thriving in this climate doesn’t mean they’re immune to threats. In fact, Florida’s palms are especially vulnerable to disease, nutrient deficiency, and insect infestations.
That’s why every property owner with palms should understand the importance of routine palm maintenance.
Protecting a Valuable Investment
Imagine losing a 20-foot-tall Canary Island Date Palm to a preventable disease. You’d be looking at a replacement cost of over $3,000—not to mention the damage to your landscape's appearance. Regular care isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about protecting your long-term investment.
A proper palm health plan involves much more than occasional trimming or watering. These tropical trees demand targeted fertilization, insect monitoring, and proactive disease treatment to truly thrive.
Know the Threats to Your Palms
One of the growing concerns in the Tampa area is the Spiraling Whitefly. This pest lays spiraled eggs on palm leaves and leaves behind sticky honeydew that promotes black Sooty Mold. If you’ve noticed leaves darkening or plants underneath becoming sticky, this pest may already be at work.
Another major threat is Texas Phoenix Palm Decline, a deadly phytoplasma disease. Once it infects a palm, there’s no cure—only prevention.
How to Prevent Common Palm Diseases
Many palm diseases are incurable. Prevention through early treatment is the best defense. Injections of oxytetracycline HCl, an antibiotic used for susceptible palm species, can reduce the risk of contracting Lethal Yellowing and other phytoplasma infections. This method doesn’t reverse the disease, but it helps build resistance before infection occurs.
That’s why homeowners are encouraged to get started before symptoms arise. Once visible damage sets in, options become limited and costly.
Customized Palm Care Solutions
A comprehensive palm care program, like the one from Palm Tree Care in Tampa, FL, is designed specifically for Florida’s tropical tree varieties. It includes:
Seasonal fertilization for healthy growth
Long-lasting insecticide treatments
Fungal prevention treatments
Ongoing phytoplasma injections (for at-risk species)
Free inspections between service calls
The goal is simple: to keep your specimen palms healthy, vibrant, and standing tall year-round.
Spotting Early Signs of Trouble
Don’t wait until fronds turn yellow or insects swarm the canopy. Signs like wilting, unusual spotting, or sticky residue indicate that it’s time for professional attention. Spotting issues early allows experts to intervene before irreversible damage occurs.
Common overlooked symptoms include:
White spirals on the underside of leaves
Sooty buildup on leaves and nearby plants
Dull or thinning fronds
Premature fruit drop
Prevention Pays Off in the Long Run
A structured palm maintenance schedule prevents major costs down the road. The upfront investment is minimal when compared to the replacement of mature palms—or the damage that infestations and diseases can cause across your landscape.

Commercial Locksmith in Avondale Seasonal Checklist for Home Security
The commercial locksmith in Avondale believe that home security isn’t one and done task. They feel it will evolve with seasons, and you should be ready with the seasonal upgrades. Every season requires specific security upgrades, like preparing locks for winters and securing windows for summers.
This guide will take you through a detailed checklist that can help you prepare for every season. Following this checklist will bring some peace of mind.
Let’s begin with the security checklist for spring season.
1. Start by inspecting the exterior doors and locks. After the long cold and wet weather, you might notice that the doors and locks would be swollen or shrunk. It could also cause these locks to stick. You might notice issues where the keys would not turn easily or there is rust on the handles. This is why inspection of the doors and windows along with the locks matters.
2. You should also check the window locks. During spring, you are likely to open the doors and windows often to enjoy the air. That’s why you should get them checked and replaced.
3. According to locksmith for car key replacement in Phoenix, you should also check the oudoor lighting. While they days are growing longer, it still means you need to adhere to the security best practices. Make sure to replace the burnt out bulbs on porches and walkways. Moreover, you can also use motion sensor lights in the dark corners.
4. Visibility is key in keeping up with the security needs of your home. Make sure to trim the overgrown shrubs and trees. You must also check the smart devices and cameras used in your home’s security. Make sure to clean the lenses on the camera. Update the firmware on smart locks for better security. Let’s move to summer checklist
1. The sliding doors can become an entry point for people intruding into your home. You should add a security bar along the track, according to commercial locksmith in Avondale. Make sure to check if there is wear and tear on the lock.
2. In case you are traveling during summer, make sure to stop packages ad any other mail delivery to ensure people don’t realize you are not at home.
3. During the summers, your yard tools and bikes would come out. Make sure to check if it is secured. You must keep your garages and sheds locked
4. Set up timers for the interior lights so that it mimics activity even when you are not at home. You should install smart plugs to manage the entire setup remotely. Let’s look at the fall security checklist.
1. You must replace or repair your weather-stripped locks. Cold drift with moisture can cause damage to the lock hardware. By replacing or lubricating, you would get them ready for the fall season.
2. The fall storms can cause issues to your fencing or loosen the gate hinges. You must repair these weak areas to strengthen the security.
3. You should always reinstall or test the doorbell cameras so that you are secure from suspicious activity. Make sure to hire a professional home and car key replacement Phoenix locksmith to help with security upgrades and replacement.
