Another round of tron illustrations. I did Zed and he is incredibly hard to draw…. Jesus. And ladies prepare your hearts…. we have also Gibson. I mean his face in tron evolution is so terrible I couldn’t use it as a model for my drawing, and his skin in battle grids is just jensen ackles color palete with the roblox smirk face glued on top (is just fucking terrible). So I decided to use Jensen as model and since battle grids is not canon I opted to use the evolution haircut, which is just jared padalecki hair in supernatural lol, it’s só funny how Gibsons is canonically a mix of sam and dean winchester. Well he ended quite hot, Anon is likely very pleased with the results ;)

Please accept some Tron doodles set once again in some universe in which Kevin Flynn decided that maybe this whole 'people can be digitized' thing should be shared and brought Alan (and Lora, and Roy) in to help him. (Thank you to @graedari for allowing me to use her wonderful grid armor design for Flynn!)
I've got some description and some close-ups under the cut, because why not, right?
These doodles are featuring:
Flynn secretly watching the (non-lethal, totally friendly competition) grid games as they were intended to be. I kinda like to imagine the grid games when all was peaceful were kinda like the games in the Tron Evolution Battle Grids game (the Wii game, if anyone else had that) where anyone could compete and all was friendly. Flynn would totally sneak into that from time to time so he could watch without drawing attention to himself -- or maybe he was competing and is watching while waiting for his next turn.
A full reference for Alan's grid armor, further demonstrating my inability to draw Alan without his hands in his pockets. (It really wasn't intentional, I just keep ending up with reference photos of him or people standing like that, somehow.) But I thought it was fun to remember how I took inspiration from Tron's Legacy design, Jet's design in Tron 2.0, and Alan's regular outfits to make him a grid outfit.
#I just think its funny that I keep managing to draw Alan with his hands in his pockets#and also the fact that when I went to see if I had ever drawn his boots (or like- the bottom half of his legs) before#nothing#I very much had not - not even a little#And so I got to improvise and figure out what I had in my head when I first designed Alan's grid outfit as far as pants and shoes go#Tron#Tron 1982#Tron Legacy#Kevin Flynn#Alan Bradley#Radj Draws#I think the color I use for Alan's hair is migrating over time but shh that's not important right now

At the end of April I entered an art contest organised by @dailydoseoftron with a group of other Twitter artists. We had 2 weeks to do some art with the theme "Tron Gaming". After my last Gibson/Yori piece, I'd been thinking about Gibson and his fate in Tron: Evolution. So, I wanted to capture the closing stages of his battle with Anon. I won 2nd place with this piece, which I was really happy about! I would have liked to have done more with the infected grid lines on the background, but I didn't have time. So, here it is. Hope you like it!

One of the things I like about the Tron video games is that it's never the same deal, it's always varied in its genre. While I'd like a sequel to really any one of them, it just gets old when they have a property that had a successful game in that genre and they decide to stay in it forever.
Discs of Tron, a semi blockade type.
Space Paranoids, a tank shooter.
Deadly Discs, a top down version of Discs.
Adventures, sidescroller.
Solar Sailer...what even is that?
2.0, FPS.
Killer App, Isometric.
Evolution, 3rd person action adventure
Battle Grids, I guess would be considered racing.
Run/R, a- self explanatory!
Identity, visual novel
and now Catalyst, a rogue-lite (like?)

Greetings Programs!
I’m Rie-Eleven, the User of this project. I intend to keep a record of most, if not all, Tron media. I believe keeping archives like this is important, it’s always a tragedy when stuff becomes lost. I'm also working on a wordpress account (for those off of tumblr) and twitter account (just for update notifications, I promise).
This post will contain links to the post of each media as I research them. This will be a slow process, but I’m glad you’re here with me!
See that I’m missing something? Let me know and I’ll gladly look into it!

Bally Midway's "Tron" Arcade marquee
Released in 1982 by Bally Midway, "Tron" is an arcade game that was developed alongside the groundbreaking Disney film of the same name. Both the film and the game were instrumental in showcasing the potential of computer graphics in entertainment, making "Tron" a landmark in both cinematic and video game history. The game itself is not just a tie-in but an extension of the film's aesthetic and themes, exploring the concept of living inside a digital world, a notion that was revolutionary at the time.
Technological and Historical Context
The early 1980s marked a period of rapid evolution in video games, with developers exploring new ways to integrate storytelling and advanced graphics into gameplay. "Tron" was released during the golden age of arcade games, a time characterized by intense creativity and technological advancement. The film "Tron" was notable for being one of the first major motion pictures to make extensive use of computer-generated imagery (CGI), and the arcade game sought to bring that visual style to the gaming world.
Gameplay and Design
"Tron" consists of four distinct mini-games, each based on different scenes from the movie. The games include:
Light Cycles: Perhaps the most iconic of the four, this game has players controlling a light cycle that leaves a solid trail behind it. The goal is to trap the other cycles with your trail while avoiding walls and the trails of other cycles.
Grid Bugs: Players must destroy grid bugs and clear a path to the I/O tower within a set time.
Battle Tanks: In this mini-game, players control a tank and navigate a maze-like battlefield, destroying enemy tanks.
MCP Cone: The objective is to break through blocks spinning around the MCP's cone by firing at them, without getting hit by returning fire.
These mini-games are accessed from a central hub, a design choice that not only provided variety but also reflected the segmented nature of the digital world depicted in the film.
Graphical Innovations
"Tron" utilized colorful and detailed raster graphics, which were advanced for the time and provided a visual fidelity that mirrored the high-tech, neon-infused aesthetic of the film. The game was one of the first to use a blacklight in the cabinet, which made its fluorescent colors stand out, enhancing the visual experience and drawing players in arcades.
Control and Interface
The game featured a unique control scheme, including a rotary dial for aiming and a joystick for movement, which were innovative at the time. This setup allowed for precise control, which was necessary for navigating the game's various challenges.
Sound and Narrative Elements
"Tron" featured pioneering sound design, with audio that closely mimicked the electronic score of the film. This integration of sound helped immerse players in the digital world of Tron, enhancing the game's futuristic feel.
Impact and Legacy
"Tron" was critically acclaimed and commercially successful, becoming one of the most memorable arcade games of the 1980s. Its success helped solidify the concept of games as a viable promotional tool for films and demonstrated the potential for cross-media convergence.
Technologically, "Tron" pushed forward the notion that video games could be both visually stunning and complex in design. The game's emphasis on multiple types of gameplay within a single cabinet anticipated later developments in arcade and console gaming, where multi-genre games became more common.
Conclusion
The arcade game "Tron" stands as a significant achievement in the history of video gaming, notable for its technological innovation, distinctive design, and its role in the broader context of 1980s pop culture. By bridging the gap between cinema and video gaming, "Tron" not only captured the imagination of a generation but also pointed the way toward the future of interactive entertainment, where the lines between different media would continue to blur. As a historical artifact and as a piece of entertainment, "Tron" remains a fascinating study in the convergence of technology, art, and commercial entertainment.

the soundtrack of The Grid: daft punk's contribution to TRON:LEGACY
What would a movie be without music? There are many soundtracks that are considered iconic, one of the many being TRON:LEGACY soundtrack. Despite the complaints that TRON:LEGACY had been one long Daft Punk soundtrack it cannot be denied that the soundtrack composed by Daft Punk did not benefit the movie and elevate the movie experience. Daft punk’s contribution to the soundtrack of TRON:LEGACY was massive…or maybe it was just that big of a contribution to me.
Daft Punk’s combination of their signature electronic sound with orchestral arrangements created a soundtrack that was both otherworldly and emotionally resonant. In order to achieve this success the duo collaborated with composer Joseph Trapenese together they created a score that enhanced the digital and human themes of the film.
The electronic sounds contributed by Daft Punk evoke the mechanical, futuristic and digital feeling of The Grid, which fully immerses the audience into the world of TRON:LEGACY, for example, ‘Derezzed’ captures the electronic energy and action of the Light Cycle battles. The orchestral sections, contributed by Joseph Trapanese, in ‘ Son Of Flynn’ and ‘Overture’ emphasises the emotional weight of events that take place in the movie. The fusion of strings and bass with electronic beats mirrors the tension between the Digital and humanity, which is one of the core themes of the film. The combination of these two styles enhances many emotional moments of the film, ‘Adagio for TRON’ uses somber strings layered over subtle electronic undertones to highlight the loneliness and sacrifice of Kevin Flynn.
The integration of Daft Punk and Joseph Trapenese sound not only amplified the film’s visual impact but also the added layers of thematic depth. The soundtrack created a sonic landscape that was not only innovative but also emotionally engaging, elevating the film beyond a typical sci-fi experience into an immersive journey that resonated with audiences long after credits rolled.
Daft Punk’s work on TRON:LEGACY inspired many composers and filmmakers to experiment with electronic elements in their soundtracks, specifically in genres such as science fiction and action. Films such as ‘Drive’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’ featured electronic soundtracks that were heavily influenced by Daft Punk’s work. Daft Punk’s ability to craft a soundtrack that was futuristic but at the same time emotionally resonant set a new standard for modern film scores. The success and influence of the TRON:LEGACY soundtrack demonstrated a broad appeal for electronic music in cinema which then encouraged studios to take creative risks.
Daft Punk’s revolutionary work on the TRON:LEGACY soundtrack not only elevated the film's narrative and visual experience but also left a lasting impact on the evolution of film scores. Daft Punk’s contribution to the film, as mentioned many times before, enhanced the emotion of the moment and what the characters were feeling in that moment. Some may say that TRON:LEGACY was a glorified Daft Punk music video…and maybe it was, but it cannot be discredited from how it totally elevated the movie experience by evoking feelings through music. I cannot imagine anyone being able to do the same thing for the TRON:LEGACY film.
all my love,
kita 🤍
this could be very niche idk...i just like tron and daft punk a lot. and i dont care if people say its a glorified daft punk music video like yes but it MY glorified daft punk music video
