Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott scored a little over 24 hours after his injury-time cameo in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, but manager Jose Mourinho wasn’t taking any notice, according to one journalist. WHAT’S HE SAID? Spurs were beaten by Wolves in a five-goal thriller at the weekend as Raul Jimenez handed a reminder to everyone in north London on what it is like to have a fit and firing forward at your disposal with his 73rd-minute winner. Mourinho opted for Dele Alli as this week’s makeshift centre-forward while the 18-year-old starlet was only named on the bench because of an injury to Erik Lamela. And on Monday night, the U23 squad played out part two of the above fixture with Spurs pulling off the reverse scoreline, this time winning 3-2. Parrott found the net within six minutes of the match, but The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare claims the Portuguese boss was not even in attendance to witness the young crop of Tottenham prospects. Nope. — Charlie Eccleshare (@CDEccleshare) March 2, 2020 DEMORALISING NEWS This must come as a devastating blow to the young Irishman as he’s taken his opportunity to shine, but the man he’s ultimately trying to win over wasn’t there to see it. WATCH TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR VIDEOS WITH STREAMFOOTBALL.TV BELOW Mourinho has claimed several times that Parrott isn’t ready, both on and off the pitch, but this display, which has been described as “mature” by Football.London reporter Alasdair Gold surely is the first step in dispelling such thoughts. “He’s not ready. He’s a good kid we want to help, not only on the pitch but off it. He’s a kid who’s going to have real opportunity but when we decide it’s right. He was on the bench because Lamela said he was not ready.” Jose Mourinho, Wolves post-match press conference. The teenager who has been likened to Robbie Keane in the past signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract just last month to tie his future down to Spurs, but he’s only been able to make three senior appearances totalling 72 minutes. Parrott isn’t even allowed to speak to the press whilst on club duty. What more will he have to do to catch his manager’s attention? MONEY TALKS: HOW MUCH DID LEVY PAY FOR EACH OF THESE SPURS STARS? Especially if he can’t even be bothered to check up on his progress one day after stubbornly throwing him on to make an impact with mere minutes remaining. Mourinho continues to make bewildering decisions over the Spurs prodigy, which is only going to affect his morale and confidence long-term. And in other news,ex-Spurs winger Nkoudou jokes about Journalist claim that he should have stayed at the club… #TroyParrott #CharlieEccleshare #TottenhamHotspur

Tottenham Hotspur fans saw their side win 5-0 on Saturday. After a dispiriting display against Manchester United – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side won 2-1 at Old Trafford – Jose Mourinho’s men bounced back in style at Burnley’s expense. Harry Kane scored twice, with Son Heung-Min netting a fabulous solo goal and Lucas Moura and Moussa Sissoko also on the scoresheet. But one standout moment came in the second half, as Mourinho introduced young striker Troy Parrott for his Premier League debut in place of Dele Alli. Spurs die-hards are getting 70% on this Ultimate Tottenham Quiz. Can you beat them? And supporters were quick to flock to Twitter to hail the substitution of the youngster after his first taste of life in the top-flight. This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers… Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Troy Parrott will start Monday’s clash with Denmark on the bench but has said that he could have the chance to become a hero, per Irish News. WHAT’S THE WORD? Tottenham Hotspur youngster Parrott made his debut for Ireland last week, featuring in the 3-1 friendly win over New Zealand, having played just once for Spurs’ senior side. However, Monday’s encounter against the Danes brings with it a far higher degree of difficulty. Indeed, a win for McCarthy’s side would almost certainly see them qualify for Euro 2020, per ESPN, while Denmark are also looking to seal their progress with a victory. Ireland have not beaten this opposition since 2007 and were thumped 5-1 in a play-off to determine qualification for the 2018 World Cup just two years ago. McCarthy, though, is hopeful of victory, and Parrott could be given a chance to come off the bench and play a major role in helping his country to next summer’s tournament. He said: “If the circumstances are right and all the stars are aligned, he might get a chance to come on. “He might be on the bench and not play and that would be sad for him. [But] It’s an option and when you see his movement, it could be one of those things on a night as it is when it’s made for heroes, he might be the first one.” GIVE HIM A CHANCE, HE’LL TAKE IT Parrott is just 17, that must be said. But at youth level, he’s been scoring goals for Spurs. He has netted 15 in 13 outings for the U18s, eight in eight for the U19s and four in 13 for the U23s. The message there is clear: If he gets a chance to score, he’ll likely take it. And on a night when Ireland will have to be taking the chances that come their way, Parrott could well be their secret weapon off the bench. A winning goal for the teenager would be what dreams are made of but we’ve seen it happen enough times not to rule it out. Having hit the back of the net with regularity at junior level for his club, he will be hoping to write his name into folklore at the Aviva Stadium against the Danes. #TroyParrott #MickMccarthy #RepublicOfIreland

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles… Tottenham Hotspur face Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week in a dead rubber. Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Harry Kane will not play in the game and there are a number of youngsters who could be selected by the Portuguese against the German giants. There is one obvious beneficiary and Football FanCast has put together a list of the young players who could break out in Germany. TROY PARROTT This one is clear. Parrott made his Premier League debut against Burnley at the weekend, coming on as a substitute as Spurs won 5-0. Mourinho handed him the match ball after the game, commemorating his league bow. A prolific presence in the youth teams, Parrott is currently the top scorer in the UEFA Youth League with six goals to his name. It remains to be seen if he can translate that to senior European football but he is likely to be given the chance; a goal could see him climb the ranks significantly at the club. Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars? KYLE WALKER-PETERS Not really a youth prospect anymore, Walker-Peters is 22 and has been around the first-team for some time. However, he was not really trusted by previous manager Mauricio Pochettino, making just 23 senior appearances, and has yet to play under Mourinho. Nevertheless, he could be given a chance against Bayern, with Serge Aurier, who has played in every game under the Portuguese, surely due a rest. A solid performance could raise his stock in the eyes of the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss; he rarely gets a chance, so he must seize this one. OLIVER SKIPP Another player who has been around the first-team, Skipp actually made his Champions League debut earlier this season, coming on as a substitute against Olympiacos. He has played just 10 minutes under Mourinho, though, coming on as a substitute against Burnley, and this is a chance for him to stamp his authority on the central midfield position. At the age of 19, one feels that he needs to be playing football regularly and he can put himself in the shop window with a fine display in Bavaria. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has unlocked one Spurs man’s consistency. #ChampionsLeague #BayernMunich #TroyParrott
