The more I think about Tomura, the more I sympathise with him.

I don't understand people who hate his character or were so happy about his death. Horikoshi did not write him to be unsympathetic. He humanised him in various ways and I'm surprised it flew over so many people's heads.

The first time is when he loses the only person he ever viewed even remotely as a mentor and saviour. And it is complicated because he is AFO's grooming victim, but we see him being lost and afraid of being on his own. He's humanised when he makes it clear that what Overhaul did to them will not go unpunished. That he isn't giving away the members of his League like pawns. Magne was invaluable to him. She wasn't just a nobody. Toga and Jin cared about her. And Tomura more than understood that. When they have their strong emotional reactions to that, when Spinner blows up on him about what the hell they're doing, he doesn't lash out like a brat at them. He doesn't get even REMOTELY defensive.

He openly shows he takes their feelings and their dreams and wants into consideration. He treats Jin with respect after he messes up. He gives Dabi the freedom he demands and while the shift in their relationship was unfortunately skipped out on being shown, a two-way line of trust was built between them for Tomura to trust Dabi with leadership roles and to let him do what he thinks is best, and for Dabi to willingly keep coming back and maintain his loyalty to Tomura.

People who also think he's some lame online bigot who'd hate women or throw slurs around like cheap cigarettes are so wrong. Literally, we never see him say anything bad about Toga's bisexuality or Magne. Why the hell would they go around killing racist groups then? Why would he be fighting against an unjust system? That's the whole point of his character. He's not there to be an oppressor.

He's ESPECIALLY humanised during the MVA arc when we see how he was failed by his entire family and society. After he wins against Re-Destro, the first thing he thinks about is what Compress said about joining the Yakuza and immediately arranges that his probably starving fucking group gets fed.

He's humanised when we see him responding softly to his visions of his mother and sister. He's humanised when he opposed AFO because it very evidently shows that Tomura is a person who was used and groomed. He wants autonomy over his own body that he has never had. He was always part of a plan, since birth.

The League trust in him. Jin feels comfortable because he knows they won't reject him. Dabi is cynical but he's gleefully hopeful once Tomura wakes up after Ujiko's experimentations. Toga and Spinner know that Tomura is doing this for THEM too.

We see Tomura talking to Endeavor during their fight and explaining why society is failing in the face of these labels. He's talking, he's trying to explain and have a conversation and Endeavor isn't even hearing him. It just proves the point Tomura is making.

Nobody is willing to listen to the people who really need help because they're strange, ugly and they'll take more effort than punching someone in the face for stealing a purse.
