A Pivotal Moment for Palestinian Statehood
France's announcement of Abbas's reform pledge sets a new diplomatic benchmark, driving momentum ahead of the June UN summit. With Hamas disarmament, PA modernization, PA elections, and reconstruction firmly on the table, Macron’s strategy may herald a turning point in the Palestinian quest for statehood. As global attention converges on New York, the coming days will determine if these commitments translate into tangible outcomes—or stall amid political resistance.

I'm wondering if, as a society who cares about vulnerable people, we could stop saying "traumatize" when we truly mean "upset"?
I am sick of hearing sad books or movies "traumatize" their readers. I simply do not believe that happens. A traumatic experience might be adjacent to books (I have vivid memories of books I was reading around certain experiences and even how the contents of those books affected my processing of the experiences). But it's not caused by the book. And, y'know. The weather is Christofascist Censorship Attempts outside.
Meanwhile from the other side I continue to be surprised at just how badly people fail to understand trauma and traumatic experiences in general. Watering down the term isn't helping. Find other hyperbole to express that The Bridge to Terebithia gutted you, chewed on your heartstrings, and made you cry your first pair of contact lenses right out of your preteen eyes.
(ETA here although it's impossible to edit reblogs: over the months since this post really took off, there has been valuable discussion in the comments. I stand by the passion with which I wrote this post and with the general message, but not all the exact wording. I talk more about the way I'd re-write this post in a response here, replying to an addition that added a ton of useful context [other additions touched on similar themes, but that person had it all together in one reblog]. With that said, I am muting this post.)

taiwan travelogue by yang shuangzi tr. lin king is indeed an award-winning banger and perhaps the first time in my life i've ever felt vindicated for dual-wielding a novel with its english translation because the act of translation itself is such a big theme in the novel. big win for metafiction-obsessed himejin everywhere!!

#i genuinely burst into tears twice just thinking about the ending of this book#read if you enjoy: narratives about colonialism. barriers to understanding formed by language and power dynamics. FOOD AS LOVE#i also just bought the authors most recent book and its also very fun and maybe what id recommend as a lighter entry point into her work#as a yuri thats also very slice-of-life with food-as-love themes but requires less historical/cultural background to access#alas no. 1 siwei st doesnt have a translation. yet... unless.......#txt#spoilers further in tags#i think part of what makes chizuru/chien-ho such an intriguing character is carried by the conceit of translation as interpretation#her role as someone who dreams of translating novels but not one who writes them... delivering others stories to a broader audience#shes very much a character who we only get to see from the outside; most notably from the perspective of the novel's unreliable narrator#which we read as a 2nd ed translation of the original japanese text by an uninvolved third party looking back years after the authors death#but it turns out [spoilers] chizuru herself wrote the 1st ed translation and the first time we hear *her* voice is in her translators note#and her perspective and the negative space between her words are both *infinitely* fascinating#even the concept! of translating a novel where youre a main character who the narrator loves and desperately wants to understand! wtf!!!!!!#rotating her in my mind. 小千妳到底是何方聖神啊...

Congratulations, Luigi! You're the lucky winner of a free stay at a world-class hotel, The Last Resort!
We look forward to dazzling you with first-rate hospitality and service. Please be sure to invite any friends or family that you'd like to bring, as well!
– Hellen Gravely
Okay, getting a better look at what the invitation from the intro of Luigi's Mansion 3 actually said, I have a few thoughts.
I can't believe King Boo pulled the whole "Congratulations! You won a contest you don't remember entering! This is not a scam" shtick a second time, and it worked again.
The invitation tells Luigi to bring any friends or family they like, no limitation to the number. That is so... so diabolical. They really said "whoever Luigi likes enough to bring with him on vacation gets put in portrait-limbo for eternity." They wanted to make sure Luigi inadvertently hand-picked the people who suffered for his defiance. I can't even begin with how messed up that is.
The fact that Luigi brought Princess Peach is??? So cute??? The fact that Luigi was like "hey! I won a luxury vacation in a contest I don't remember entering. I'm allowed to bring as many guests as I want. You want in?" and Princess Peach– with all her royal obligations and responsibilities– responded with "I'll get my luggage and some toads! We'll take the royal bus" is soo adorable. They are friends your honor.

After reading both Kass and Mefalit's statements I'm so very heartbroken and disappointed. Anybody who has been watching Iskall's streams or Vault Hunters SMP these past few years would be able to recognize these names. Mefalit was a VERY big supporter of VH and prominent part of the community and it's terrible that she and the other victims were betrayed and manipulated like that.
Also just to remind people, making light of the situation by memeing on what Iskall did helps nobody. Comments like "I never liked him/always knew he sucked/had a bad feeling about him" especially disrespects the victims who DID trust him and were manipulated.
Respect the mods/community members involved and let their statements be just that. Do not speculate on more.
On a more positive note I'm glad that the Hermitcraft members dealt with this swiftly and maturely, thank you so much to the anonymous hermit Mefalit and the other victims managed to reach out to.

Odysseus with his head in his wife's lap, happily not paying attention to anything, humming one of athenas song and carving something

All the socialist accounts freaking out about how they “don’t want to die for Israel”🤦‍♀️
During the Yom Kippur war in 1973, Fidel Castro shipped 4,000 men to Syria so that they could try to invade Israel from the North.
180 Cuban citizens died in the Golan Heights (7,000 miles from Cuba) because their government was unhealthy obsessed with Israel.

it’s very entertaining and cute to me to think about the differences in language that Guardsmen have with the rest of the GAR and how some things require lots of background knowledge. of course you can make it a bit sad, as this would create a bigger divide/rift in the relationship. sticking to the light-hearted stuff, i think Fox would make a joke about lemons being a kid’s entry into becoming an evil CEO, and Wolffe would just be blankly staring at him because he doesn’t know what a lemon is or what CEO means. Fox would trick him into eating a lemon, and then explain lemonade and lemonade stands, how kids used to be encouraged to make one many thousand years ago and why, explain starting up your own business as an adult, explain what CEO stands for, what CEOs are in charge of & what they do while frequently going off into tangents about particular ones (and their companies) that he wants to see “disappear”, and laugh some more at Wolffe falling for his trick. Wolffe is silent and listens, not because he cares about any of this anymore, but because he’s worried Fox might actually lose his mind if he doesn’t get all this out.

The idea of Dale not feeding himself for possibly days on end is terrifying when you consider that might result in him not feeding the actual newborn baby he's in charge of for similar amounts of time.
Dale is absolutely not in charge of feeding Dev. Devs primary caretakers have been au-pairs.
Dales eating disorder is just about the only trauma he's made sure Not to pass on. Even if he denies it he is aware that his eating habits are fucked, he just cant bring himself to do anything about it. If there's one thing Dale always makes sure of its that Dev at least has access to food.

hmm okay so do we have anything saying the people who showed up at the girls' camp were birdwatchers except Van mentioning that last about demographics using the tape? There's an interview calling them scientists, and if they were the ones originally recording, which I assume, then scientists exploring the woods would also potentially have a reason to record things this way. Regardless of whether this article calling them scientists is correct, we definitely don't know for sure that they're birdwatchers.
Also, the only/last thing we hear on the tape is the girls singing and Lottie screaming 'no!', which is interesting because that alone isn't incriminating - it's the implication of someone within their group threatening to expose what happened next, or just that they're still out there.
Anyway I love how the tape appears long before we see the original events, that's a very interesting way to unfold it, and I love this bombshell that the Yellowjackets absolutely killed some people who were not even involved in the intial crash. I've been waiting for there to be something MORE to the answer of 'what they did out there' since the cannibalism is basically an open secret/rumor since episode one, and now knowing that they most likely killed random, innocent people who could have helped them and have covered it up all this time fulfills some of that.

I’m almost done with s6 of spn and this is my overarching take away from the entirety of the show. Dean Winchester deserves a goddamn break.
