YOUR WHAT?!
pairing(s): dick grayson, jason todd, tim drake, stephanie brown, cassandra cain, kyle rayner, wally west, hal jordan x fem! reader.
summary: their reactions to the "current partner" trend.
a/n: mute Cass you are canon in my heart <3
DICK GRAYSON
[You step backwards from the camera, showing off the outfit you'd coordinated with Dick, trying to prevent yourself from bursting into a fit of giggles as you anticipate his reaction.]
"He wanted us to match, isn't my current boyfriend so cute!" You smile as you watch his reaction through the phone screen.
[The camera zooms in on your boyfriend, who immediately stumbles mid-step like you punched him, as his smile drops into a horrified stare.]
"Current???" He gasps, a hand clutching his heart dramatically. "Iâve met your family. I fold your laundry. I shared my dessert with you last night, willingly!"
You brace your hands on your knees, hunched over as you burst into laughter. You go to speak, but Dick's on a roll.
"No. No, no, no. Iâm not some temporary man. Iâm not a placeholder! Iâm..." He sputters, trying to articulate his point as he waves an acussing finger at you "I'm an endgame boyfriend. The endgame boyfriend!"
He huffs, crossing his arms over his chest and turning his back to sulk.
"Aw, is the endgame boyfriend gonna cry?" You hug him from behind, resting your cheek against him.
"Maybe."
[The camera cuts to a sulking Dick, drinking poutily from a mug you bought him earlier that says "#1 Boyfriend." Just managing to pick up his mumbled words.]
"Current boyfriend⌠ridiculous⌠Iâm soulmate material"
JASON TODD
[You prop your phone up, resting it against your mug to show off your still groggy boyfriend who is currently mid-sip of coffee]
"Breakfast with my current boyfriend."
This instantly catches Jason's attention, making him cough a little as he lowers the mug. "âŚThe current what now?"
"Boyfriend." You beam, as if nothing in the world is wrong.
He squints as you, his coffee long forgotten. "See that's what I thought I heard, current boyfriend, but I must be wrong. What happened to 'ride or die'? What happened to youâre it for me, Jay'? Did I hallucinate all of that?"
"Hon, relax."
But he cuts you off, "No, no, no. See, now Iâm wondering if I need to get my duffle bag and my helmet and hit the road. Am I getting replaced? Are you conducting auditions behind my back?"
"Oh, here we go." You mutter under your breath as Jason stands and begins pacing.
"Iâm tall, I give the best hugs, I'm rich." He pauses and just when you think he's done he spins to face you. "I read! I literally read books. That's like a dreamboat hobby. What more do you want from me?"
"Babe. Itâs a tiktok trend. Itâs literally a joke." You giggle.
[You pick up the camera, zooming in on his squinting face as he freezes]
"âŚI better be the final boyfriend. I swear to God." He grumbles and your heart melts a little.
"You are, honey. You're the last one." You stand, leaning in to kiss him softly.
"Damn right I am. Put that in the caption. Tattoo it on your forehead. I will not be dethroned by some stupid trend." He huffs, but doesn't hesitate to recieve your affection.
TIM DRAKE
[You're leaning against the headboard, Tim resting his face against your stomach, his arms wrapped around your waist as you hold your phone out to the side.]
"Y'all wanted him in more content, so here he is, the current boyfriend."
It takes a few second for your words to register, but when they do he lifts his head to stare at you so quickly he nearly snaps his neck.
"A, wha? ah!" He sputters, his mouth taking even longer to catch on.
"Ah, wha? Lipstick in my Valentino white bag?" You mocked and the glare he threw you was mutinous.
"You're such a bitch."
You raise a brow, "Oh, so we're updating that status to ex-boyfriend?"
"You wouldn't." When you simply stare at him, his face drops a little. tone turning more uncertain, "...would you?"
You let the charade continue for a few more seconds before his deadly puppy eyes do you in and you drop a kiss to his forehead.
"No, baby. Never."
With your confirmation that no, you weren't breaking up with him, the brattiness abruptly returns.
"Ha, knew you didn't have the balls to leave me." He crows, and you roll your eyes, shoving him off you and consequently the bed when he tries to snuggle back into you.
STEPHANIE BROWN
[The video starts selfie style, with you standing behind Steph, still dressed in her fuzzy hello kitty pyjamas, as she pours herself a bowl of cereal.]
"So, here she is, the current girlfriend."
[Stephanie freezes mid-bite, turning to look at the camera in sheer disbelief]
"âŚCurrent?" You try not to laugh at her reaction but a few giggles slip out and Steph launches into a tirade.
"CURRENT?! Like Iâm a seasonal limited-time offer?! Babe, what is this, a McRib romance?!"
"Would you prefer âtemporary live-in menace with nice legsâ?" you tease.
"Okay first of all, accurate. Second of all, current?! Babe, Iâve already picked our wedding colors. Iâve named our hypothetical cats! I have a whole pinterest board dedicated to our future life together!"
"Stephâ"
"CURRENT?!? I'll kick you in the fucking head!" She grouses, forgetting her cereal as she storms off in a dramatic huff.
CASSANDRA CAIN
[You and Cass are cuddled together on the couch surrounded by fluffy pillows and blankets. She smiles softly and leans into your side when she notices the camera.]
"Date night with with my current girlfriend."
You feel the way she stiffens against you and instantly regret your words. The TikTok long forgotten, as you turn your full attention to your girlfriend.
"Hey, love, I didnât mean it like that. It's a stupid TikTok trend. Youâre not just some current flavour of the month, youâre my person. Always."
[Cass blinks, the tiniest smile breaking through her usually serious expression. She reaches out and squeezes your hands softly, before pulling back to sign an "I love you"]
You beam, leaning your forehead against hers, you're stomach erupting into butterflies as you thought about the ring you had hidden inside your pillow.
KYLE RAYNER
[Kyle sits across from you, paintbrush in his hand as he focuses intently on the canvas in front of him.]
"Painting the cats with my current boyfriend, look at him go!" You laughed as he looked up at you with a dopily in love grin, before he registers what you've just said.
"Wait. Current Boyfriend?" His brow furrowed as he put down his brush. "Current boyfriend cause we're gonna get married and then I'll be your husband right? Right?"
He looks like a kicked puppy and you stand, moving around to slide into his lap.
[The phone's discarded on the table but it still records the conversation]
"Yeah, baby, we'll get married." You hum, hokking your arms around his neck.
"Oh, that's good, should I go and get the ring I bought a few months ago then?"
"Kyle?!"
HAL JORDAN
[Youâre walking through your apartment, filming, Hal is in the kitchen wearing sweats and an obnoxious tank top that says 'welcome to the gun show.' He's making pancakes while humming something off-key.]
"Fit check with my current boyfriend!"
Hal smirks, turning to face the camera. "Damn right. Look at thisâpilot, sexy, short stack master... wait." He squinted, analysing your previous sentence. "Hold on. Back up. Current?"
[You try to keep the camera steady as he turns around fully, eyes squinting like you just told him Batmanâs funnier than he is.]
"Current boyfriend?? Excuse me?? IâI live with you. We have two cats together, is that what you're telling our sons I am?"
You practically howl with laughter at his meltdown, "Itâs just a trend!"
But it's like he doesn't even hear you, too busy on his warpath. "I fixed the leaky faucet. Thatâs not âcurrent boyfriendâ behavior, thatâs husband energy."
[He points dramatically at the pancakes sizzling in the pan.]
"That right there? Thatâs commitment. Thatâs âIâll be there in your 80s cutting your meds into quartersâ energy."
[The camera cuts to show you sitting with your face resting against your palm as Hal continues to pace in the background, widly gesticualting.]
"Just a current boyfriend... The betrayal..."
WALLY WEST
[You're sitting on the couch, flipping the camera to show off an unsupecting Wally sitting cross legged on the carpet as he works on constructing the $1000 Lego Millenium Falcon you'd gifted him.]
"Y'all look what a nerd my current boyfriend is."
[Wally pauses. His head turns slowly like a confused golden retriever.]
"...Current?...Current?! Babe. Babe. What do you mean current? Did I miss a breakup?! Are you firing me?! I just bought us matching toothbrushes!â
"Well, technically you are the current one." You tease.
"That makes it sound like there could be a next one! You think you can upgrade from this?" He runs a hand down his body. "Limited edition! No returns!"
"You're right. Nobody wants to take the model back anyway." You snort.
[He clutches his chest like he's been shot, fake-sobbing as he collapses against the carpet.]
"We made a spreadsheet for potential baby names just for fun! What about Wallace junior huh?"
"No child of mine will be named Wallace." You deadpan, humour momentarily forgotten until he suddenly crawls toward you, making it impossible not to laugh.
[He buries his face into your lap, and you burst out laughing, pulling him into a hug while he dramatically clings to you like dead weight.]

DP x DC ficlet
is it even a ficlet anymore, this thing has gotten incredibly out of hand...
So a while back I saw this
and I picked the Green Lantern one and then just kinda wrote a full fic so...
It had been a good party, official yes but despite that still festive enough and with just a bittersweet hint. as all good meaningful parties should be like, unless youâre looking to get absolutely shitfaced.
But hey Rowan deserved a proper sendoff for making it to this point and not dying in the process. Hal is going to miss the old pilot though.
"Hal, I got something for you, before I forget"
"Hm, what is it"
The old man puts a small intricate glass model of a f16 fighter in his hand.
"Back when I started I was given this for good luck and protection"
Rowan presses it down firmly and stands there all official like "may it grant you both as it did for me"
They both stand there for a second before laughing.
âFeel free to shelf the whole luck thing, whatâs really important is skill and experience. Still, knowing you, you can definitely use the protection â
Hal grins, "Thanks, I'll keep close"
"You better, the sentimental value is sky high" Rowan slaps his shoulder with another laugh.
Good lord what a dork.
The old retiring pilot wasn't paying attention, too caught up in everything else but Hal saw the faint and brief green hue coming from his hand.
In a panic he slammed his other hand over top. Completely missing the quietly whispered "protect"
Too busy cussing out his ring in his head, he swears that thing is trying to out him on purpose sometimes.
This time it wasn't the ring though, so it's a good thing it's an inanimate object and can't be upset at how wrong Hal is being right now.
"Everything alright?"
"Yeah! Let's get back to the others"
The evening ends uneventfully.
---
It's really only until quite a bit later that things start to happen.
"Green lantern" its batman's business voice.
Both Hal and John look up.
"Jordan" ah shit.
"I'll catch you up later" and he leaves Hal behind, traitor.
"What's up spooky"
"You need to update your file, it is missing critical information, and on that note I wasnât aware that the lantern suits grant you intangibility now"
"I... what..? It doesn't? What are you talking about spooks"
"Hrn" Batman pulls up a screen and shows him footage of the latest fight, in it you can clearly see something was supposed to hit Hal but went right through him "You're telling me you didn't know or notice this?"
Hal just looks kinda sick. That would have been a bad hit and he just straight up didn't even notice.
Batman just kind of silently looks at him and he must have come to some conclusion because the next thing Hal knows this comes out of his mouth.
"I've already ran your blood through the lab, it's not a sudden emergence of a meta gene so it's either from the lantern corps or you've otherwise externally been affected by something that's causing this"
Hal closes his eyes and internally counts to ten, it doesn't help.
Batman takes his silence to mean he can keep talking. The man is on an unusual roll. Hal would have been ecstatic if he didn't hate the topic quite so much.
"It would have been best if it had something to do with your ring however you seem to be completely unaware and I've also noted that the green of your ring and the green glow that comes with the density shifting are different"
He has examples with corresponding color codes, Hal is so tired.
âlet's set a time frameâŚâ Batman pulls up some documents and graph on the screen âseeing as you are unaware of this development I will set the starting point of this potential change as of now to right after the last time you have been known to be hit in a fight and before the first known instance of you being able to density shift, that leaves us with a full month.â
Hal really, really does not want to be here anymore.
âIn this month you have not gone off planet so whatever caused this is on Earthâ Batman pauses for a moment, âhas anything significant happened during that time that springs to mind now?â
âno, nothing significant has happened during that time, frankly itâs been a very pleasant uneventful four weeks in which I finally managed to catch a break and it figures something crazy has apparently happened anywayâ
Hal rubs his face with both hands, âbut right now I couldnât tell you what, anyway, does this have to be a bad thing? I for one am very glad that hit didnât actually landâ
âSo far only Superman has had the privilege of having sudden emergence of new powers work out for himâ Batman huffs, âit would be best to monitor this carefully, if anything springs to mind do not hesitate to inform me, the sooner this is figured out the betterâ
âawww you do careâ Hal is using humor cope, sadly itâs Batman, so itâs not very effective.
âJordanâ now Batman sounds tired, heâs not the one with random surprise density shifting, Hal understand that Spookyâs crippling chronic paranoia must be exhausting but right now heâs the one freaking out considering this is apparently not a meta gene related development, it would have been so much easier if it was, oh and about that, just how and when did Batman get his blood exactly? he would like to know now.
---
sadly he does not get to know now. or anytime soon (or ever). itâs chaos right after, because of course it is.
knocked out of the sky and lying amongst the rubble, if their enemy spots him heâs in bigger shit than he already is, but he canât fucking move and the next thing he knows heâs invisible.
and there is just nothing enjoyable about it.
Barry doesnât know that though, âthat was something else, just one moment and schwup and you were just gone, some sort of green lantern light bending? he looked right through you, thank god he did tooâÂ
shit shit, âno that was..." it was like he just ceased to exist, movies and books and whatever other media always depicts it as such a cool thing but frankly it was terrifying. And he would prefer things that are terrifying not to happen to him, for obvious reasons, âhonestly actually itâs complicated, stealth techâ Grade A bullshit.
âwell itâs awesomeâ
âit was useful just now but not really my style you knowâÂ
Barry slings his arm over Halâs shoulder and gives him a one armed hug, âeverything worked outâ Hal can feel some tension flow out of his friend, âwell! better get busy cleaning this mess upâ and with a blink heâs gone.
Hal does not want to talk about this with Batman, but knowing him, he probably already knows anyway, it would be less of a headache to go to him than have him go to Hal.Â
Hal wants to enjoy whatever this is, he really does, but he doesnât know what caused this, he doesnât know what triggers the new abilities or whatever they are, he doesnât know what effects this shit is going to have in the future, he just doesnât know anything, normally he doesnât mind not knowing some things, heâs fine leaving the knowing to the people better suited for the more complicated knowing, but he would very much like to know more about this please.
---
Then they face off against an enemy and in the process Hal drains his ring completely and the next hit is going to be bad, so what will happen? Will he somehow go intangible again? Turn invisible and use the confusion to evade and attack?
No
Apparently this time he just gets a glowing green dome shield. Something very normal for him to have and use, if only it came out of his ring that is.
Nobody notices that something is wrong, nobody besides Batman that is.
"That's three new abilities that only appear during life threatening situations"
Hal has actually seriously gone over that month by now, but nothing, no answers. He's physically fine, mentally a little damaged but nothing new there, they all are. Every test he begrudgingly went through answered nothing. He was fine. Whatever was going on actually had nothing to do with him.
And at the same time it had everything to do with him because this is only happening to him.
As usual (by now) he takes out his little glass fighter jet and runs his thumb over the wings. It is soothing strangely enough. Like a stim toy.
"The last thing to try is a thorough examination by someone from the justice league dark"
Hal groans, magic, ok then, "Alright let's get this over with. Who knows maybe I'm just haunted"
It turns out heâs not haunted, this is a good thing... supposedly, Well letâs just say that Hal would have not minded being haunted or something if that meant it could be fixed, or just explained.
It doesnât really need to be fixed, whatever this is has been very helpful after all, but he would do basically anything for an explanation right about now.
âyou are not haunted or otherwise magically compromised, but I do sense faint traces of energy from the infinite realmsâ Zatanna is a godsent, finally something to work with.
âfrom the who whats?â Hal is worried, the occult field is definitely not his area of expertise. He's a space cop, not a space demonhunter⌠oh that would be pretty cool though, with like a hood and twin cyber crossbows, maybe he should incorporate that somehow.
âthe infinite realms⌠have you recently been in touch with any death related realities?â
Well there was that time when he got booted to the death universe and he died and then he was a black lantern but he got better, thatâs all very much very behind him.
She better not be about to tell him that stuff still has lingering consequences.
oh god dammit thatâs exactly what is going on isnât it?
"How recently?"
"In the past week?"
"Oh, no" Hal would have known if that was the case, death stuff tends to be hard to ignore.
Zatanna frowns, that's probably not a good sign.
"But you said I'm not compromised right?" Right now what Hal wants to know the most is if this is changing him. Cause it tends to be bad for him when that's the case.
"No this is just lingering traces of something or someone else using their powers near you"
???!!??!?
"What are the infinite realms?" oh hey there Batman, was wondering when you would show up again.
"It's the afterlife, or... more like a collection of all afterlives. The infinite realms is very literal in their naming. It is home to powerful dead entities. As a general rule magic users are discouraged from interacting with it.
"Hrn"
"What did you say happened to you so far Hal?"
"Uhm, density shifting, invisibility and then a green dome-like shield, a lot like my own energy constructs"
"that sounds like pretty standard stuff for a realms being"
"Soooo what, did one leave the afterlife and decide to follow me around or something?"
"I cannot conclusively say, I can only say that you've been close to one using its abilities"
Batman folds his arms over his chest, "We shouldnât form theories on these findings alone, Zatanna are these realm beings dangerous?"
"Hard to say, they come in all manner of forms, some small and harmless and others on the level of world destroying gods."
Great great great, awesome, well itâs probably safe to say that whatever decided to stick around Hal isnât small and harmless, cause small and harmless doesnât sound strong enough to casually turn him intangible or invisible⌠he could be wrong though.
âI do advise caution, beings from the infinite realms also have the ability to possess someone, they call it overshadowingâ
Batmanâs lips thin and Hal tenses up, mind control of any kind is always awful.
âIâll place a ward on you, as a precautionâ energy starts to gather in her hands.
Batman moves for the door, âwe might need to look into a way to force this being to reveal itself, it would be best if we could convince it to return to their realmâ
âWell I mean-â Hal starts, âlike I get that, but they have been a great help so farâÂ
âthey are a security riskâ
âIâm just saying, I am grateful that they kept me from being confined to the medical wing for who even knows how long, who knows they might just be shy, wouldnât it be better to convince them to become our ally, like Deadman. instead of telling them to leave. just cause we donât understand how they work yet doesnât mean they are bad and should be booted out of our realityâ
Batman narrows his eyes at Hal and turns to Zatanna who is finished with placing the ward on Hal, âZatanna please send me all you have on the infinite realms, I will do my own researchâ and with that he sweeps out of the room, very dramatic.
âAssâ Hal whispers under his breath.
âHeâs worriedâ
âwell heâs being a dick about it, as usualâ Halâs fingers find his little plane once again â... hey do you think they could communicate through one of those oejah boards?â
Zatanna snorts, âitâs Ouija- and please donâtâ
---
No information from the JLD has been useful so far in coaxing the realms being to reveal themselves and for the most part things just go on as usual.
âWhoever they are, they followed me when I went off planet and it might just be my imagination but I had a feeling that their stuff was a lot more⌠potent? out there? I donât know it was kinda strange, it just felt strongerâ
âbut they didnât reveal themselves to you?â
ânope, they must know that I know now too, so they have decided to just⌠go on as they always have I guessâ
âhrnâ Batman is leafing through files, because of this whole mess heâs uncovered hidden government organizations targeting occult entities as well as inhumane laws that stand directly opposed to the meta protection acts.
Why is he working with paper regarding this matter? Well it turns out there is a infinite realms being that can possess electronica and it was only because of the protections the JLD had put in place on the Watchtower that the entity didnât overtake it in its entirety.
Watching Constantine freak out had been mildly entertaining but Zatanna had once again reminded Batman to be very careful, Batman had begrudgingly admitted he had made a slight misstep while digging for answers⌠in his head, not out loud, god forbid.
âthis whole thing is turning out a lot bigger than we thought huh, good thing we are dealing with it nowâ Hal stretches his arms above his head, âanyway I am going to go grab something to eatâ
âthe rapport-â Batman doesnât bother looking at him.
âyeah yeahâ Hal doesnât either while walking out of the room, dismissively flicking his hand, âdonât worry about it spookyâ
Hal takes his little plane out on the way to the cafeteria and fiddles with it in his hand, once there he puts it on the table next to Barry before getting himself something to eat.
They catch up, Hal complains (bitches) about Batman, others come and go, Zatanna quickly checks up on the ward she placed which makes Barry raise an eyebrow at Hal, âGhost protectionâ
â... no such thingâ
Zatanna glares.
Hal can see them both gearing up to start the magic is just science we havenât fully scienced out yet argument again, âalright! Iâm fullâ he stands up, âif you need me Iâll be writing that rapport, laterâ and gets the hell out of there.
Itâs when he has just reached his preferred spot to work on the boring paperwork stuff when the alarms go off throughout what he can only imagine must probably be the entire Watchtower.
It seems like something triggered all of the JLDâs defenses in one go.
Impressive, but also very worrying.
The rapport is going to have to wait.
People are gathering in the meeting room and Batman is already taking the lead, âstatusâ
âas of a couple minutes ago there was a build up of as of yet unknown energy which then burst in the cafeteria knocking out Flashâ Martian Manhunter says, âZatanna says we are most likely dealing with another being from the infinite realmsâ
Superman groans, this means heâs out.
Itâs a good thing they now have defenses against overshadowing though. Being effectively trapped in a space station (because currently the thing is on lockdown) where literally anyone could suddenly actually be the enemy is the kind of situation a whole slew of horror movies like to be about.
âWe will need to be extremely careful while finding and then dealing with this entityâ
It has certainly been quite some time since the Watchtower got directly hit like this.
Hal pulls out his little plane.
or, he would, if he still had it.
thoroughly distracted now he suddenly realizes itâs no longer on his person.
Spooky is probably not going to like it if during the infinite realms attacker hunt he takes the opportunity to look around for his missing little fighter jet.
well what he doesnât know wonât harm him.
His plan of looking for the plane while looking for the ghost is working out well enough.
In fact it is working out so good that he finds both at the same time.
At that point Hal had started wondering if maybe Barry had picked it up for him at the cafeteria before the attack happened and that the little thing was now in the medical wing with him.Â
That turned out to clearly not be the case once he found the tiny thing glowing green and floating in the middle of the hallway.
âalright ghosty, thatâs really important to me and I would like it back undamagedâ
the tiny plane turned to now point directly at him, hmm, yeah that's not creepy at all.
â... please donât launch yourself at meâ he foolishly says which of course means thatâs exactly what it does next.
He uses his ring to construct a net with a pillow inside to catch the tiny jet, completely forgetting that itâs overshadowed and can thus easily just go intangible and right through his creations.
Instead it hits him square in the chest, rather painfully he might add and then just stops glowing and drops, making Hal scramble to not have it fall and shatter in a million tiny pieces on the ground.
immediately all the sensors stop detecting the presence of a realms being and the alarms die down.
Whatever was in the Watchtower has left the building.
orâŚ
Hal looks down at the tiny plane in his hands, his talisman of protection and has a sinking feeling in his gut.
âHey there little guy, might want to explain yourself?â he says to the tiny jet.
It vibrates in his hands.
â... yeah I figured, shitâ
---
âI say just smash the bloody thing and be done with it, preferably that takes care of it once and for allâ Constantine glares down at the tiny jet.
Hal is almost halfway over the table to shield the little thing, covering it from Constantineâs sight with his hand, âdonât you dareâ he growls.
âit would be best for everyone involved, for all we known you could have gone full liminal what with how long youâve been carrying the blasted thing aroundâ
Zatanna is going over the little thing with her own magic, âitâs trappedâ
âIn that case just straight up trying to murder it would be the worst thing to doâ Hal glares at Constantine some more. Who clearly doesnât give a shit, figures, all stressed out about dealing with things from the infinite realms but whenever he feels he has the upper hand heâs more than happy to go full nuclear.
âit would be best if we had a way of figuring out their intentionsâ Batman looks down at the tiny jet impassively.
âWell, another reason to just carefully release this creature insteadâ Hal responds.
Zatannaâs magic fades away, âI would say that the fact itâs been protecting Hal for as long as he has it is a positive signâ
âhrn, but now it has gone and knocked Flash out, so what does that sayâ Batman huffs, âitâs too riskyâ
âConstantine and I will set up everything we can so it wonât be able to escape or try anything dangerousâ Zatanna stops looking at Batman and turns back to the tiny plane, âif it turns out to be malicious we could simply banish it back to the realms, killing it would be rather stupid, we do not know what kind of connections it might have within the realms, we might accidentally anger something far worse with such a rash actâ
Constantine groans but accepts Zatannaâs reasoning, Batman nods as well.
Itâs only then that Hal moves out of the way.
Any plans of attack or banishment fly right out of the window once the two magic users are done and a young boy manifests from the tiny fighter jet.
Hal pushes Constantine aside to get to the boyâs side.
âJordan, are you insane! Get back here!âÂ
âHey, kid, can you hear me? please open your eyes, slowly, take your timeâÂ
Batman has also moved forward much to Constantineâs frustration. Don't these two morons get that their protections wonât do shit if you just casually stroll into the circle?
Batman is mostly concerned in being able to step in should the boy prove to be a hostile entity anyway, but at the same time⌠well, thatâs a child.
The boy kind of dazedly opens his eyes, looks at Hal and then seems to become aware of his own arms and hands, after opening and closing those a couple times he looks back at Hal and lets out a breath that can only be described as relieved and promptly passes out into him.
Well, Hal figures that settles it then. He doesnât know shit about looking after a kid, and definitely not one who is probably quite dead, but this one is his, back off Batman.
they all startle rather violently when rings of blinding white light pass over the boy and suddenly the kid in Halâs arms is a bit warmer and seems to have a sluggish pulse and also his clothes are different and his hair is now black and-
Hal is up and moving towards the medical wing before his mind catches back up with him. He can hear Batman behind him, it seems like Constantine and Zatanna arenât moving after him as fast.
Well anyway his life is already so goddamn weird, this might as well happen.

Wow! As the header says, my blog just went past 5k followers - I'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who hopped on for this journey; I'm having the time of my life sharing my writing with you all.
In celebration and as a way to have a little fun - I'll be opening my inbox for a day and letting those who want to send in something fill it up!
Now, I know you're probably asking yourself 'Hal, I thought you said requests are going to be closed so you can finish the ones you have and work on the AUs?' And you'd be correct - I did say that. I'm not going to be writing full-length works for this event.
To anyone who sends something in (and follows the rules I have in place on my Request Form (be sure to check it even if you've already read it, I added some more characters and other stuff)) I'll be writing one-to-two page drabbles!
All this being said, after this post is uploaded I'll be opening my inbox up to anyone who would want to participate and closing it exactly one day after!
Thank you again for being the best community ever - I'm incredibly lucky to be surrounded by kind and respectful individuals as well as mutuals who are mind-numbingly sweet. I could not have achieved all of this without you; I think that's beautiful.

Read Chapter 5: What Belongs Together Will Find Back Together here on AO3

Youâre having a downright awful day. A witch must have put a curse on you, or maybe God finally decided to turn his grudge into never-ending misfortune.Â
You came into the hospital late, hungover, and in the back of an ambulance with a man who was beaten to a pulp by a masked vigilante, but you couldnât tell anyone that, so you left that part out. Shelly wasnât happy when the police showed up to question you, and she was even more displeased when she found out that you decided to play the hero instead of heading to work straight away.Â
She lectured you for ten minutes without taking a moment to breathe, and then she convinced you to take a double shift as an apology. You are far beyond your limit, but if you let the exhaustion seep in, people will die.Â
Eighteen hours down, six more to go. At least, that is what you believed when you set foot into the emergency room for a surgical consult. You didnât expect to see yourself where you are nowâstanding between the security guardâs loaded gun and a troubled young man holding a pocket knife. Then again, the past eighteen hours have been hell, and after everything that happened the night before, this feels more like a cruel joke the universe is playing on you than a threat to your life.Â
You always happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The man threatening you with the knife isnât even your patient. An ambulance brought him in after a bad trip on amphetamines. He was aggressive. They even had to strap him down. Someone else was in charge of him by the time you came downstairs to take care of your patient, but somehow, the young man managed to free himself of his restraints, knock out the nurses around him, and demand an almost lethal amount of drugs. When he didnât get what he asked for, he pulled a knife, and security jumped in.Â
âOne bullet requires over a hundred healthcare workers,â you blurt out. The security guard has his eyes focused on the man with the knife, but your words make him turn to you for a second. He frowns.Â
âPut the gun down,â you repeat. âIf you shoot him, you will take almost all of the staff in this ER away from other patients. People already get shot on the streets like itâs a sport. We can resolve this some other way.â
Youâre babbling, but the situation is about to escalate. If he hadnât assaulted two nurses and pulled a knife on everyone else, including innocent sick people, security would have taken him down, you could have sedated him, and no one would have gotten hurt. But itâs already too late for that.Â
âDoctor Clarke,â the security guard, Hal, says, his voice eerily steady as he points the gun forward still, âStep aside.â
âNo,â you insist.Â
âYouâre gonna get hurt.â
âAnd youâre agitating him by waving a gun in his face. If you keep doing that, weâre all gonna get hurt.â
âShut up!â the young man yells. You flinch. âShut up, both of you!â
You turn to face him. âEasy. No one wants to hurt you. Why donât you put the knife down and weâll talk about whatâs bothering you, hm? I can help you. You just have to be a little patient,â you say.Â
A calm voice can do wonders when someone is agitated, but this time, your words fall on deaf ears.Â
âI want ten milligrams of Dilaudid,â he says. âNow!â
âOkay, I heard you the first time, but 10 milligrams is a lot. Are you in pain?â
âYes! Thatâs why I need you to give it to me or I swear to God I will use this knife and gut you like a fish.â
The gasps in the room are audible. You sigh. The way heâs shaking, you arenât sure if he can gut you like a fish even if he tried. Heâs in serious withdrawal. âI can give you two,â you tell him.
He shakes his head. âI want ten!â
âI canât give you that. I can give you two milligrams. You know they do the job just as well.â
âNo, no, noâŚâ His voice grows higher, and it sounds almost as if heâs sobbing. His fist tightens around the handle of the knife. âNo!â he says, louder this time.Â
From the corner of your eye, you can see some of the security guards ushering the remaining patients, the ones who are mobile, at least, out into the waiting room.
âFive,â he begins to argue.Â
âTwo,â you repeat.
âI said five, you bitch!â He wipes the counter of the nurseâs station clean with his free hand. âYou do as I say or Iâll cut you. I swear, I will cut you!â
You donât let him sway you. You donât let him agitate or scare you. Instead, you take a deep, calm breath and lift three fingers into the air. âThree,â you say. âLast offer. I canât give you more than that. For now. I can give you three milligrams of Dilaudid, weâll check you out, and if youâre still in pain, I can round up to five. Howâs that sound?â
He licks his dry lips. His eyes keep darting around the room before falling back on you. Heâs contemplating.Â
âI promise, Iâll do it. You just have to put the knife down.â You take a careful step forward. You almost have him. âIâll make sure that the pain stays away, but we have to be careful about this, alright? Three milligrams, and I will add up to five if itâs as bad as you make it sound. You just put down the knife and I will take care of everything else.â
His nostrils flare as he lets out an exasperated sigh. âYou will give me five?â he asks.Â
You nod again. âIf you happen to need them, yes,â you say.Â
âThree then five?â
âYes.â You smile gently. âWhatâs your name, anyway?â
âIâm not tellinâ you.â
âOkay, thatâs fine. Let me introduce myself then. My nameâs Olivia. Iâm a doctor. And I promise you, I always keep my promises.â
The man looks between you and Hal, the security guard. His hand keeps shaking. He doesnât look angry anymore, simply nervous. âAnd him?â he asks.Â
âHe will put the gun down,â you say with an obvious glare over your shoulder.Â
Hal hesitates. He stares at you, then at the man, then back at you before he slowly lowers his gun. He doesnât holster it, he keeps it at his side, but that seems to be enough for the young man before you. He slowly lowers his knife as well, placing it on linoleum floors. The seconds tick by in slow motion.Â
When the knife is on the ground and his hand is gone, you nod. One of the nurses grabs him from behind. He yelps. You can tell that he didnât expect that, and the betrayal on his face is visible. You almost feel bad.Â
You get handed a syringe and a bottle of clear liquid. You have to be fast. The young man, despite his state of withdrawal, is rather strong and youâre not sure how long he can be restrained before he starts throwing fists.Â
âOkay, this is gonna hurt,â you state as you fill the syringe with the liquid. It could be Dilaudid, but judging from his eyes, he doesnât believe you.Â
âNo! Let me go! You promised!â he growls as he struggles against the grip keeping him in check.Â
âIâm sorry,â your words sound genuine. You mean them.Â
You truly are sorry. Heâs suffering from a disease you are more than familiar with. You know what it does to a human being and those around them. You know the physical and emotional toll this disease can take. It requires so many sacrifices, and those affected have no choice but to give up everything.
Youâre about to jab the needle into his upper arm when he manages to dig his heel into the foot of the nurse behind him. He stumbles back in pain, and the young man uses his newfound freedom to haul his arm forward. The syringe falls from your hand and out of his arm. You donât have time to brace yourself. His anger escalates, and the faith you had dissipates.Â
A sharp pain tears through the bridge of your nose. The bone lets out a crack that sounds like a scream straight from a megaphone. Itâs a pain you have felt many times before, but it still hurts like hell. You let out a groan of agony, losing your balance and falling against the counter of the nurseâs station. Thankfully, your assailant wiped it clean, giving you enough free space to hang onto.Â
For a moment, youâre disoriented. You can only feel the sharp pain tearing through your skull. The blood from the burst vessels starts pouring out of your nostrils in hot streaks. You canât breathe. Not through your nose, at least.Â
When you finally manage to turn your head, you see the young man making a run for the ambulance bay. You push yourself off the counter, breaking free from whoever is trying to grab you and get you to sit down, asking you if youâre okay, and you take a few quick steps after him. You donât get very far. Not only is your head pounding and your coordination is slightly off, but something gets in the way of the manâs escape plan, and he stumbles. He falls face-first to the ground. He instantly stops moving, and the security guards are all over him in seconds.Â
Youâre holding your broken nose, a look of pain and surprise etched into your features. Your eyes switch from the man to a familiar face. Your eyesight is slightly blurry, but you recognize him right away. You take another step forward.Â
âMatthew?â you ask, dumbfounded.Â
The young man didnât just stumble, he stumbled over a blind manâs cane. If that was on purpose or simply karma, youâre not sure, but the attractive lawyer whose number you tossed into the trash because you were feeling sorry for yourself made sure that no one else could get hurt. For that, you want to kiss him.Â
You wince. You probably have a concussion. Youâre bleeding and confused, although when you look at him and he tilts his head in your direction, you donât feel confused anymore.Â
The man next to him raises his eyebrows. âThat was so cool, dude,â he says. Then, his eyes fall on you. âBut that does not look cool. Hey, why did she just say your name? Do you know her? Matt?â
âOlivia?â Matt isnât even paying attention to what you assume must be his friend.Â
You donât have a lot of time to process the awkwardness of the situation. What felt like hours since you got punched has been nothing but mere seconds. You evaded the caring hands of your colleagues, and you are starting to regret that.Â
âIââ your vision blurs. One of the nurses rushes to your side when your knees buckle. âExcuse me,â you murmur, âI have to pass out.â
Before she can even tell you to stay awake, the black curtain closes on your vision and you lose all control of your limbs. Youâre floating between consciousness and darkness. The strong arms that catch you before you can hit the ground though, you can feel them. And you can hear Matthewâs voice just above your head, telling you, âHey, stay with me.âÂ
But youâre tired, and your mouth tastes metallic. You hate the taste of metal. You open your mouth to respond, but that is nothing but a subconscious reflex. Before you know it, even the last pieces of your consciousness have slipped away, and you fall into the abyss of complete and utter darkness.Â
There is no telling for how long youâve been out by the time you regain consciousness. Everything around you was dark for quite a while, but it still felt like only a minute or two. Your eyelids flutter. The bright neon light above your head hurts your already throbbing head.Â
You groan, reaching up to touch your nose. The blood has dried. You dare to inch closer to the injured bone, ready to face the pain, but someone touches your arm. Itâs a soft touch that sends shivers down your spine. When was the last time someone touched you this gently? When was the last time someone touched you and wasnât planning to hurt you afterward?
Your first instinct is to pull away. Your eyes slowly adjust to the white walls around you, nurse Miriam with a concerned expression to your left, and the steady beeping of the machine in the background.Â
âWelcome back,â she says with a relieved smile. âYou scared us there for a second.â
âI wouldnât touch that if I were you,â another voice says to your left.Â
You donât want to believe it. You must be dreaming, or maybe youâre already dead. When you turn your head, you see him. Matthew. The lawyer. The guy you rejected because you tend to feel too sorry for yourself. You canât help it. Youâre scarred. You had a good reason for throwing his number away. What else were you supposed to do?
It takes you a moment to register his presence as something more than a hallucination. You want to ask him why heâs here, but youâre not sure if you want to know the answer. So, you just stare, and you try to figure out why Matt Murdock is sitting next to you in the middle of the emergency room after you got punched by a drug addict.Â
He smiles softly, even a little shyly. âHi,â he says.Â
You blink a few times. Heâs still there. âH-hi,â you stammer.Â
This is real. Heâs really next to you. And he looks concerned. The past few minutes slowly come back to you. He tripped the young man who attacked you with his cane, and when you recognized him and walked toward him in a haze before passing out, he caught you. He looks strong enough to explain the way you felt when your knees buckled. The question of how he did it doesnât even dawn on you because blindness is a complex disorder. It canât be that easily explained.Â
Youâre merely asking yourself why heâs at the hospital and why youâre suddenly so confused, and your body is tingling all over. All because he touched your arm to stop you from touching your nose, which is either dislocated or broken. Youâre not lucid enough to determine that yet. You just know that it hurts.Â
Matt clears his throat. âYou fainted.â
âTo be fair,â your voice cracks a little, âI gave you a heads-up before I did.â
He laughs. He has a beautiful laugh. The way he adjusts his glasses as a faint blush covers his cheeks from the blood rushing to his head and the way he laughs are both equally as endearing, and you can hear your heart beating a little faster. The beeping of the monitor changes ever so slightly.Â
His laughter dies down after a few seconds. âYou, uhâyou okay?â he asks.
You want to look into his eyes, but all you can do is look at your reflection in his red glasses when you say, âYeah.âÂ
Itâs a lie. Youâre far from okay. He tilts his head as if he knows that youâre not, and it makes you want to curl in on yourself.Â
âThereâs blood on your shirt,â you point out. His white dress shirt has a small stain toward the left of his chest. You donât connect the dots at first.Â
Matt nods. âYou kind ofâŚfell on me.â
âOh.â
âYeah. I caught you.â
âOh.â You bite your lip. âThank you?â
âItâs nothing. This is the first time someone fainted when they saw me, so⌠Iâll just take it as a compliment.â
The laugh that escapes your lips is involuntary. The vibrations tear through your nose. âOw,â you wince. Your finger brushes against the bone this time, and the pain shoots through your body like an arrow.Â
Nurse Miriam gently pulls your hand away. âCareful, sweetheart,â she says. âWe still need to get an X-ray, but Max thinks it could be broken.âÂ
You donât even question the mention of your colleague. Instead, you ask her, âHow long was I out?â
âFive minutes, but your vitals are stable. You probably just fainted from the stress, not the punch itself.â
Turning your head back to face Matt, your finger brushes his hand that is resting on the mattress next to you. âYou stayed,â you say.
You donât understand why he would do that. You donât know each other well enough. Your frozen heart cracks a little. Youâre not used to this level of kindness. Youâre not used to being cared for or worried about. You do it for other people. You do it for a living. When the tables are turned, however, you donât know how to accept it. You donât know how to deal with it, and you donât know how to judge the way Matt is looking at youâin his own way, he is looking at you, just without his eyes, and you donât know what his expression means.Â
Youâre confused and possibly concussed, and your nose hurts. This day couldnât get any worse. But Matt being there sends an almost welcomed shiver down your spine.
Matt tilts his head slightly, softly. âSomeone laid their hands on you and then you fainted into my arms,â he says. He makes it sound as if that alone is reason enough to stay with a stranger he gave his number to but who never called him.Â
You feel bad. The guilt is eating you alive. He stayed because someone laid their hands on you. Involuntarily, your heart flutters.Â
âYou tripped him,â you murmur. âWith your cane.â
âDid I?â The smirk on his face tells you that he knows very well what he did.
You chuckle. He can be the epitome of innocence if he wants to be. âYou made sure he wouldnât get away.â
The redness in Mattâs cheeks only grows. âAh. He just tripped over my cane,â he says. âCould happen to anyone.â
âBut it didnât.â
âMaybe it was Godâs will.â
Godâs will. You remember the conversation you had with him in the abandoned hallway a few days ago. You talked about religion. You told him why you are an atheist. Heâs a devoted catholic, but he didnât judge you. Thatâs not something you see often.Â
You donât know what else to say, so you close your mouth and take a moment to look at him. He runs his hand over the stubble covering his jaw and neck. His chest strains slightly against his tight dress shirt whenever he takes a breath, and his suit jacket fits just right around his biceps. He fidgets with his fingers when heâs nervous, like now. You wonder what heâs thinking. Should you say something? You probably should, but you still canât find the words.Â
âListen, Matthew,â that is all you get to say before the curtain jiggles and a man passes through.Â
You remember his face. You saw it briefly before you passed out. He was standing next to Matt. Blonde, tall, nice smileâheâs the complete opposite of his friend. Heâs colorful and giddy; heâs daylight, whereas Matt represents the night. They complement each other perfectly.Â
Heâs clutching two packs of Capri-Sun from the vending machine in his hands. âDude, you wonât believe what just happened to me,â he says. âI pressed the button for one Capri-Sun and the machine gave me two. Two, Matt! I told you, Iâm on a luckyââ
He stops when he sees you wide awake, staring at him. Matt is pinching the bridge of his nose. âFoggy,â he warns.Â
âOh!â Foggy breaks out of his trance. âHey, youâre awake.â He offers his hand to you. âFoggy Nelson. So nice to meet you. Iâm Mattâs friend, business partner, and fellow eligible bachelor.â
âFoggy!â
You raise your eyebrows. Part of you wants to laugh, but you swallow it. You take his hand with shaky fingers. âOlivia,â you introduce yourself.Â
Foggy smiles and it lights up the room. âDid Matt tell you weâre lawyers?â
The fact that he is still trying to flirt with you even with your face covered in blood baffles you. Words go lost on you.Â
You open your mouth to answer, but the curtain moves again. This time, someone pulls it back all the way. Youâre met with a crowd of familiar faces. Everyone asks you how you are doing. You all tell them the same thing. âIâm fine,â you say. Itâs nice to know that they care.Â
âYouâre alive,â your colleague, Max, steps forward in his white coat.
You scoff. âDonât sound so disappointed.â
âHey, if you die, Iâll get your job. Iâm just waiting for nature to take its course.â
âYou think youâre as good as me?â
He smirks. âHardly.â
You canât help but chuckle. After a moment of silence, you dare to ask, âSo, whatâs the verdict?â
Max puts the chart down. âLet me take a look,â he says.Â
You love being a doctor, but you hate hospitals, and you hate being in a helpless position that you canât control.Â
For the longest time, you dreaded setting foot into the hospital that was supposed to kickstart your career. For years, you studied for a job that was injecting your veins with the purest essence of fear. It was poisoning you.
You spent so much time and money to become a doctor, but for most of your residency, you hated it. You loathed it. And you loathed everything that was somehow connected to it. Now, you donât have to be afraid anymore.Â
You donât have to be, but you are. That is the problem. Youâre afraid every day, and while it doesnât make you hate your job the same way you did when you were still a student, it makes your blood boil whenever you think about the fact that the person you thought loved you took away the only good thing in your life, and that was the ability to feel good doing what you do. You will never get the excitement you harbored in medical school back. You lost it all.Â
Youâre tense when Maxâs slender fingers check your nose for possible fractures. All you want to do is get up and finish your shift. You donât want to be the one lying in a hospital bed in the emergency room.Â
âOkay, that looks like a dislocation rather than a fracture, but we still need to get an X-ray,â he states.
You hear him out. You let him finish his sentence. Being rude to someone you get along with is the last thing you want to do. When heâs done though, about to turn around and tell a nurse to book you in for an X-ray, you cup your nose with your hands.Â
âNo need,â you say.Â
The bone emits a loud crack. You groan. The pain travels to your toes where it paralyzes you for a brief moment. The eyes of the people around you are filled with horror. Foggy exclaims, âWoah, dude!â And the nurses all let out a collective gasp. Max pales. Matt is the only one who raises his eyebrows and shows the slightest sign of a smirk. Youâre not sure if he knows what you just did.
The pain is only temporary. Your nose still pulsates under the discolored skin, but itâs back where it should be, and you can finally take a breath again. The small amount of blood that trickles out of your nose is quickly caught with a cotton swab.Â
Your glassy eyes meet those of the people around you. âWhat?â you ask.Â
âDid you just⌠reduce the dislocation on your own without an anesthetic?â Max retorts.Â
âYeah. I was just waiting for you to tell me itâs not broken.â
âOlivia.â
âWhat?â
âYou canât be your own doctor.â
âWho said that?â
âI donât know. The law?â
âActually,â Matt cuts in, and you have never been more grateful for the sound of a strangerâs voice, âTo know how to heal yourself is a basic human right. Legally, youâre not allowed to prescribe medication to yourself, but no one can forbid you to reduce a dislocation on your own if you know how to do it.â
Max frowns. âWhat? Who are you?â
âMy lawyer,â you blurt.Â
âYouâokay, you know what? Weâre done here.â He picks the chart back up. âShelly will want to talk to you, but after that, you can go home. Doctorâs orders. You need to rest.â
You sit up. âThanks. Appreciate it.âÂ
âWhatever.â
If you leave before Shelly can catch you, maybe you can escape a possible second lecture. This was in no way your fault, but the woman has been on edge for months. Budget cuts, staff quitting, and a significant hole in the money pool makes her job so much harder than it should be, and youâre only adding to her headache with your reckless behavior.Â
Being reckless is so unlike you. You used to be careful. You used to be scared of the consequences of your actions. To a certain extent, you still are. You still believe everything is your fault and you think twice about doing the easiest things, especially for yourself, because you donât believe you deserve them. But ever since you started running from your old life, you have grown more prone to taking risks. Youâve become reckless. For someone as rational as you, that is odd behavior. Even you can admit that.Â
You can feel Mattâs attention on you. âAre you going to be okay?â he asks.
You blink and look up at him. âI think so,â you answer. âDo you know what they did to the guy?â
Matt opens his mouth, but Foggy cuts him off. âThey sedated him, put him in a secure room, and called for the police and a psych consult,â he says.
âOkay. Thatâs⌠not perfect, but itâs good. Thank you.â
Youâre still a bit weak on your feet when you get up. Matt catches your elbow. His senses must be excellent. He picks up on the smallest of movements without an issue. At first, that wasnât obvious, but heâs no longer trying to hide it.Â
His scent hits you. He smells like the earth, rain, and sandalwood. He reminds you of fall. You like fall. When itâs not too cold and not too hot outside and all the leaves start changing colors. He reminds you of that, and perhaps even a cozy hug under a warm blanket.Â
You stare at him, and you feel like heâs staring back at you in some way. He tilts his head. His attention is entirely on you. Heâs listening, smelling, and feeling. A silent connection passes between you, wrapping around you like an invisible string and tying you together. Itâs weird. Youâve never felt anything like this before. Maybe heâs confusing you because heâs so attractive and you havenât felt someoneâs genuine touch in a while. Or maybe itâs because he cares that your mind canât process it and is instead confronting you with all of these unwanted feelings for a man you donât even know. You're sexually confused, frustrated, and it is emotionally draining to feel so many things at once and not be able to understand them.
Your tongue darts out to wet your lips. âI got your number, but I didnât call,â you whisper.
Matt smiles, but his smile looks pained. Heâs not the kind of man to pressure you into anything. He wouldnât be mad if you rejected him, but you can tell that you hurt him. That was never your intention.
You threw away his number to protect you and your fragile heart. You tried telling yourself that you did it for him, but you were being selfish. You were feeling sorry for yourself, and you refused to allow yourself even a moment of reprieve from the constant weight of your past that is weighing you down. You are and will always be a masochist.
âI get it,â he says. His voice sounds even more like gravel when he speaks at such a low volume. âYou donât know me and I donât know you. I canât blame you for being careful.â
His hand slips from your elbow. âI, uh, should go. We have a cab waiting.â He grips his cane with both of his hands. Those beautiful hands. âTake care, Olivia.â
No.
âWait!â Your eyebrows are already furrowed when you call out to him. You know that this is probably a huge mistake, but youâre not in charge of your own actions; your heart is.
You hate your tricky heart, considering itâs broken and frozen and wonât survive another heartbreak. Yet it changed its course last minute, and now youâre heading straight into the unknown, which scares the life out of you.
Matt stops. Foggy stops. They both stop. You take a step forward, approaching Matt again.Â
âCan I call you?â you ask.
Heâs taken aback by the question. Your forehead wrinkles as he raises his eyebrows, and his jaw drops. He blushes. He reminds you of a fish on dry land, gasping for air. Itâs kind of cute, you have to admit.
âItâs just that I misplaced your card and I would really like to call you later.âÂ
He stammers. âWhat?âÂ
âYes. I realize now that Iâve made a mistake. Iâd like to make up for it if youâll let me.âÂ
His blush only deepens. âYou donât have to make up for anything.â
âEven if so, will you still let me?â you ask.Â
The air is charged with awkward tension that could explode at any moment.Â
Matt reaches into the inside of his suit jacket to retrieve another one of his business cards. You recognize the delicate Braille instantly.Â
âIf you happen to replace it again, Iâm sure we will find each other some other way,â he says.
The blood rushes to your head. Itâs your turn to blush. âIââ You take the card from him, and your fingers brush. An electrical current runs through your body.Â
âCall me,â his voice is barely above a whisper.
You nod, equally as breathless. âIf you donât hear from me,â you say, âyou know where to find me.â
âAt Metro General, getting your nose broken?â
âOnly on Wednesdays. The rest of the week Iâm at Metro General without suffering a concussion.âÂ
âIâll remember that.â
âSeriously, I am so glad you canât see me right now,â your mouth is faster than your brain. âSorry, that was probably offensive. I didnât meanââ
Matt chuckles, but he shakes his head. âItâs alright. I donât need sight to know that youâre beautiful,â he says.Â
You had been successfully keeping your head above water until now. One sentence and heâs got you hooked like a fish. Your jaw drops.Â
âHave a good night.â He squeezes your arm one last time. Then, he turns around, and with a small, âSee ya,â he leaves.
You still havenât regained your voice.
Only when you hear giggling beside you do you turn to face the nurses.
âDonât even,â you say.Â
âJust one question,â one of the nurses pipes up.
You glare at her. You know this wonât be good.Â
âHow can I get what youâre having?â
The group erupts into laughter, and you have no choice but to yield.Â
âIâm gonna find Shelly,â you sigh. You wipe your bloody nose again. âMaybe sheâll kill me for free.â
Anything would be better than becoming the center of the nurses' gossip, even getting lectured by a pissed-off hospital administrator who wonât believe her luck when she sees what happened to you.
You leave the emergency room with the intention of avoiding any and all mirrors, but when you pass the vending machine, you catch a glimpse of your face in the glass. The reflection is a bit runny. Your nose is blue and swollen, but it could be worse. What strikes you the most is the small smile on your lips. Youâre used to being covered in bruisesâa real smile is a rarity.Â
You pull away, looking back down at the card in your hands. This feels less like a curse now.Â
You can either regret something that happened or regret something you didnât do out of your own fears paralyzing you. You have the choice. Youâre in charge of your life now, and you would rather regret trying something and it not working out than never trying it and regretting it when the opportunity has passed you by.Â
You will call Matt, and you wonât be afraid because heâs the present and all of your fears are from the past. There is no place for the past in your present, let alone in the future. If you ever want to heal, you have to allow yourself to settle down. Perhaps that will finally give you back a piece of what youâve lost.Â
âYeah,â you say to yourself, âIâll call him.â

all the things i've got to remember
ship: neve gallus x tula 'rook' ingellvar wc: 438 rating: g notes: post game gay women! thank you anon who asked for neve x rook
They ask for more, eventually.Â
In the wake of calamity, the job happens to fall into a straight line before them. Clean up, find survivors, stick together, rebuild, hold on to hope. It's hard. It hurts. No one is surprised to find that survival is a relentless churn. It burns them out. It kicks them while theyâre down. It turns the whole world grey.
And then, it eases.
Not all at once. But the sun shines on a Sunday morning and Neve sips coffee on the balcony of a new apartment. The case sheâs spent the last month working on has wrapped rather neatly, with the victims safe and the perps disposed of. Hal opens up shop again. The harbor stops smelling like human rot.Â
News from the south gets brighter.Â
Updates from the team stop having that desperate, despairing tone.
Trouble sticks around.Â
The routine takes root quick enough that Neve doesnât realize something has seismically shifted. They work togetherâNeve sees the whole picture, cracks the clues, does the talking. Tulaâs necromancy gives her a keen eye for details of a magic and biological nature. They work. Tula barely has to convince her of how sensible it all is.
And when all is said and doneâŚ
âYou made dinner.â
âI did.â
âThereâs wine.â
âBad wine, specifically. Thatâs a very important detail.â
Itâs home again. Itâs home for the first time. Neve feels older and somehow younger than sheâs ever had permission to feel.
Tula fits in her life better than anything ever has. She brings hope in with her.
âBelâs sent me three drafts of her latest chapter that are just different iterations of us getting married.â And, well. She snorts. It's obviously all very ridiculous.
And it wasnât too long ago at all that Neve would have balked, laughed nervouslyâfrantically and dismissed the idea outright. Their life was constant danger. Their world was a constant mess.
Itâs mid-morning and theyâve crawled back into bed with breakfast and the mail. There is work to be done outside, but cinnamon candles are lit and a knit blanket protects them from the slight chill of the cooler season. The world does not rest on her shoulders.Â
Tulaâs head, however, is heavy and perfect in the crook of her neck.
âMaybe we steal some ideas for the real thing,â she says. Itâs clumsy. Itâs most certainly not a proposalânot by a long shot. Neve feels her hands go clammy. She swallows around the sudden pit in her throat. âSomeday,â she adds after an altogether too-long pause.
She hears the long exhale beside her. She feels Tulaâs body melt, folding more fully around her. She puts the page down and snakes an arm over her middle. Lips press sweetly over her jaw.
âYeah, Detective. Someday.â

Internal Conflict (Part 1 of 3)
Pairing - Batman x F!Hero!Reader Series - Under Your Skin Part 2 here | Part 3 here
Summary - While Batman is at war with himself, some members of the Batfamily start picking up on his odd behaviour.
Warnings - None that I can think of.
A/N - What's that? Is there some actual plot here? My, I think it is! đ I know, it's been quite a bit of time between updates again. Sorry about that, this (and the next couple of parts) took a while to outline first and then obviously life kept getting in the way. But it's here now! And the time between updates shouldn't be quite as long. Thank you for being patient with me. Anyway, enough rambling, enjoy! đ
Taglist - At the end of the fic. Please message me if you would like to be added/removed.
Word Count - 2.5k

The wind ruffled his cape, making it blow out behind him. He was still on the rooftop, a frown on his face. You were already gone, having stormed off a few minutes ago. Your blood boiling, no doubt. Much like his was right now. The only thing he didnât know was whether his anger was directed toward you or himself.
You had a talent for getting underneath his skin. In record time as well. It was something that he had quickly discovered not long after you had accepted the invitation to join the Justice League. Somehow, you were worse than Hal and Oliver combined. All week you had been pushing each otherâs buttons and tonight you both had finally hit your boiling points. It was bound to happen at some point. In truth, he was a little surprised it hadnât happened sooner. And while he was sure you had meant every last word you had shouted at him, he hadnât.
He hadnât thought about it. The filter between his brain and mouth failing as he snapped. He supposed he should count himself lucky that you could, mostly, see through his bullshit. If you didnât he imagined that you would have quit long before now. Though, after tonight, there was now a very real chance that you would. And if you did, he was positive you would make sure it was known why you had walked away. He could already invision the line of people that would be ready to deck him for it.
With you long gone and the crisis in Star City now averted, Bruce left the rooftop. Grappling and gliding to where he had left the batwing.
The entire flight back to Gotham he replayed the argument over and over again. Analysing it. Like always.
âAt first I thought it was because you wanted to make sure that I was cut out for thisâŚâ
That was true! When it came to flying solo, you were more than capable. It was one of the things about you that had caught his eye. Obviously, working with a team was far different. You had more than just yourself to worry about. He had to make sure you could do that.
â...now I think itâs because you want me to quit⌠For whatever reason youâve decided Iâm no longer good enoughâŚâ
That wasnât true. He didnât want you to quit. In the short time that you had been a member of the League, you had quickly become an invaluable member of the team. To say that it would be a shame to lose you was an understatement. Not that he was every going to say that aloud. Especially not after tonight. Chances were you wouldnât even believe him so why waste his breath?
You had been right to call him out. If he had thought you incapable or not good enough, then you really wouldnât have set foot on the Watchtower. But you were good enough. You were more than good enough. He knew that better than anyone. He had looked into you, put your name forward. Not that you knew or needed to know that, as far as he was concerned. And to say that he was nitpicking just to rile you up to have sex was ridiculous. Sex was just a byproduct of adrenaline caused by the arguments and being in such close quarters. It was a surprise that it hadnât started far sooner.
It had become a vicious cycle. That he could admit to. And now it was one that had finally been broken by you. Not that he cared. He didnât need to have sex with you. There were plenty of people out there that he could sleep with instead. Besides, you were teammates and relationships like that could get messy, fast. It was best that it was brought to an end before something happened that would jeopardise future missions. If you hadnât done it tonight, then he certainly would have.
The sound of his boots on the metal platforms and stairs that made up this portion of the batcave, that hung over a dark abyss were loud and echoed off of the walls. The bats, high above him, squeaked in dismay, dropping from their perches to either fly deeper into the cavern system or leave it altogether.
He tugged his cowl off, setting it down onto the desk of the batcomputer as he took a seat, sighing deeply.
âAnother fight with Mr Queen?â Alfred asked as he set a silver tray down, a cup, teapot and a plate of cookies on it, and poured him some tea.
Bruce grunted in response. All he wanted to do now was focus on the keyboard and screen in front of him, no longer wishing to think about what had happened tonight. There was still a few hours before dawn and he had a lot of case files to look into. He also really didnât want to get into this with Alfred. It wasnât any of his business.
âAs talkative as ever, I see,â he muttered as he walked away to tend to other things. Alfred had decided a long time ago, since this whole vigilante business had started, that if Bruce wished to sulk over something then he could bloody well do it alone.
According to his phone, the sun had risen several hours ago. He had yet to even think about making his way up into the manor and toward his bedroom. His mind wouldnât still, the gears just kept turning. Focusing on the argument, no matter what he did to try and steer his mind away. The anger in your features, that werenât hidden by your mask, and your body, the venom that had dripped in each word, the clenching of your fist as you debated whether to try and deck him or not. In the end you had decided not to. Likely because he would have easily caught your hand had you tried.Â
He shook his head. It shouldnât be bothering him this much. And yetâŚ
His thoughts were broken by the sound of boots marching toward him. He frowned, turning away from the disassembled equipment on the workbench to see who it was. Diana. Of course. She was angry, a storm dancing in her eyes and her fists clenched by her side. The only thing that he could think was that you had actually done it. You had quit and let her know that he was the reason you were walking away. Bruce swallowed thickly and composed himself, ready to be run through with a sword.
âAnd what did you say this time?â she demanded, stopping in front of him, crossing her arms against her chest.
âShe quit?â
âNot yet, but I donât doubt sheâs thinking about it,â she replied.Â
You hadnât quit? He felt relieved, a weight he hadnât been truly aware of lifting from him. He couldnât dwell on that feeling for long, as Diana continued speaking.
âNow Iâm not going to pretend like I know whatâs going on between the two of you, but whatever it is I suggest you figure it out.â
âYouâve had this same conversation with her?âÂ
âI will be. I came to talk to you first since youâre the one continuously instigating these arguments.â
He grumbled in response. Instigator?â It made him sound like a damn child.
âIâm not apologisingââ
Diana scoffed. âWhen have you ever apologised for anything. Just figure it out.â
It had been weeks since Bruce had last fought with you. Of course, he had barely said two words to you, outside of missions, because you never stuck around for too long. You were keeping your distance from him. Not that he could blame you.
He couldnât lie. The distance, it bothered him. And it wasnât because of the looks that he received every time you left a room he entered. Outside of all of this he lived in the public eye. He was used to dirty looks being thrown his way. Thing was he couldnât put his finger on why it bothered him so much. It wasnât affecting missions. You were civil and you fought alongside him like nothing had ever happened between the two of you.
Was it the result of your own conversation with Diana? Or had you decided on this shortly after Star City?
His own conversation with her had continued to lingered on his mind. It had made him wonder if it was possible to start over with you. It was clear to him now that no, that wasnât possible. You wished to have nothing to do with him, outside of missions, and he would respect that. He told himself that things were better this way. Less complicated.
The sound of your footsteps passing by the laboratory broke Bruceâs thoughts, as well as his focus on dismantling Lex Luthorâs newest kryptonite weapon. Looking away from the weapon, he frowned. He could sworn that he was the only one left awake on the Watchtower.
The battle against Lex had been hard on all of them. The corrupted billionaireâs newest mech hitting harder and causing more destruction than any of the previous ones combined. Things certainly would have gone much smoother had Diana been with them, but the warrior goddess was off elsewhere. Busy dealing with gods and monsters and other things he would rather not think about. The battle had also served as a reminder that the production of his own mech, meant exactly for situations like that one, was taking far too long.
It also had him concerned. Super villains breaking out and working together, all of Lexâs newest tech, his own city being a little too quiet. He wasnât one to overly rely on gut feelings, preferring physical evidence and facts, something that he could see, but he couldnât shake it. Something big was headed their way and this was simply the start of it. They needed to be ready.
The kryptonite weapon attached to the mech meant that Clark had suffered the worst injuries out of everybody. As soon as Lex had been apprehended, he had been Bruceâs focus, making sure that he didnât die. Lois would likely kill him if that happened and he wished to avoid that. It hadnât stopped him from noticing you though. The way you were favouring your leg, the tear in your suit where blood was running from your thigh, making its way down your leg.
Bruce had been worried about your injury, like he would about anyone of his other teammates, of course. Years as a vigilante had taught him how bad a leg injury could be. He had wanted to see to it himself. With his training and degree, he would be the best option to, but Clark took priority and you refused to be in the same room with him.
Honestly, he was still worried. Before he could stop himself, he was already out of his seat. Making his way out of the laboratory and down the hallway. He was already halfway down the hallway when he heard one of the zeta tubes starting to fire up. He picked up his pace.
In his head, he had it all planned out. Like any concerned teammate, he was simply going to ask if you were okay and if you would like from him to take a look. Make sure that it wasnât severe. That was it, but when he entered the room, he didnât get a chance to even open his mouth before you were stopping him.
âIâm really not interested, Batman,â you told him, looking at him over your shoulder, your voice cold and gaze hard. You moved away from the console in front of you and stepping into the blinding light. Leaving him alone on the Watchtower.
In hindsight, he probably should have expected that.
As he headed back to the laboratory, he made a mental note to give Dinah some information she could send your way to help with your injury. You were close with her and it would be easier than trying to corner you.
Bruce worked well into the night after that. Or at least he tried to. His mind refused to focus on the task at hand. Instead it constantly drifted back to you. More specifically how it had felt to have you beneath him. The sweet noises spilling from your lips that sounded so much better than when you were arguing with him. It left him aching and missing those moments. Which he found ridiculous. The two of you hadnât even been in a relationship. There wasnât anything there to miss.
One thing was clear to him, he never should have dragged you into that storage room to begin with. He really didnât know what he had been thinking. That time or any of the others. All it had done was make everything worse and that now there was no way in hell it could ever be fixed. Not that he could see anyway.
None of it mattered in the end. Things were better this way. Less complicated. Less chance of emotions getting in the way and less chance of missions going awry.
It was only after Diana had finally returned to the Watchtower and disturbed him, that he finally realised the time. It was well into the next morning and, no matter how much he would prefer to stay here and continue working, Bruce Wayne had places to be. Huffing, he locked up the now disassembled weapon and left the laboratory and began to head back to his cave.
Dick flipped through the air and landed on the mat. He had come back to Gotham for a visit because he missed Alfredâs cooking and Tim and Barbara had messaged him about Bruce acting strangely. He stepped off of the mat, grabbing his water bottle and taking a sip just as Bruce returned to the batcave.
âFinally! We were about to send out a search party!â he called out to him. He didnât get a response like he expected he would. Not even a grumble, grunt or a glare. Instead he was simply ignored.
âTold you something was up with him,â Tim said from where he was sitting, eyes still glued to the laptop screen in front of him.
âYeah.â He took another sip from his water bottle. âSelinaâs not in town right now, is she?â
Anyone who knew Bruce knew about the very long and very complicated relationship that he shared with the worldâs greatest thief. And no matter how hard they tried to make things work it always ended with two broken hearts and an even broodier Bat with an even shorter fuse. It had always been that way, for as long as he could remember.
Tim shook his head. âBarbara already checked. Selina is out of the country and has been since their last break up.â
Dick nodded. âInteresting.â And it was interesting. If it wasnât Selina that had him acting like this, then who did? Who had gotten underneath his skin so badly? âLooks like we have an investigation on our hands.â
âHeâs not going to be happy about that,â Tim frowned, finally looking away from the laptop screen.
He shrugged. âHeâs rarely happy about anything. Come on, we should meet with Barbara and figure out where we should start.â

What he needs by fawn_writes || rated M || 1/1 || 1259 words - another banger from the same author. they be doing the horizontal tango, but nothings too graphic. healthy serving of body worship from jakes perspective, as well as his internal struggle with his apparent robotic attraction.
Dead Weight by squirtgunplay || rated M || 5/9 || 27337 words - oh that fic. oh my god. love me some zombie apocalypse au with existential horror sprinkled on top. hal and dirk are twins but with a twist in this one. theres mystery. theres injuries that make you incapable of moving around. theres ship of theseus discussion. its nourishing. its beautiful. jake and hals banter in this one is fucking amazing, and the author captures their characters so well. the relationship between hal and dirk is also very fucking good and heartwrenching and just ugh. stellar writing, the forth wall break made me laugh out loud, hal gets called a security camera (derogatory). theres graphic depictions of violence, so beware of the tags.
Tennessee Whiskey & You by MistLaFey || rated T || 5/? || 12217 words - major character death and graphic depictions of violence tagged, so beware and read the tags. no-sburb au. dirk fucking dies (its in the fic description so i dont feel like its a spoiler). beautiful exploration of grief, unhealthy coping mechanisms and trying to get back into the normal life when theres a big part of it suddenly missing. hal and dirk are twins. jake is not doing well. hal is also not doing well, but pretending he is. its heartbreaking and some scenes made my chest hurt. very good fic and i dont understand why it doesnt get more love. it deserves it. go read it, even just for the funeral scene, i got teary-eyed over it.
seconds by squirtgunplay || rated E || 2/2 || 18698 words - graphic depictions of violence and its no joke, presidential alert the girls are fightinnn!! but its also so funny and the authors so funny and its also really hot! no sburb au, hals a human and dirks twin. he gets kidnapped by a craigslist hitman jake who mistakes him for dirk. the banter is top game in this one. hal cant keep his mouth shut even in life or death situation. jakes a dork, but hes a deadly dork, and also cant keep his mouth shut about his personal problems. theres fistfighting and knifethrowing and hal gets a weapon put to his head at least twice and he thinks its pretty damn hot. theres banging in second chapter. what more can i say to sell you on this one. the characters are on point, the action is tense but its also written in a cheeky, fun way, smut is good, a npc gets unsubscribed from life. amazing fic, 10/10, will read it again.
I Think Therefore I AR by Taxi_Boy || rated T || 25/? || 30417 words - im saving the best for last. major character death. hal has to start the game and get his friends into the medium while dirk is missing, while also pretending to be dirk as to not raise their suspicions. im not going to say anymore about the plot, you just have to go and read the fic. genuinely my favourite jakehal - and homestuck in general - fic of all time. i love caliborn in this one. i cant wait to see what the author has cooked up for us in the future. its plainly genious.

Guy Gardner: A Study of Heroes and Head Trauma
SO! It's July, which is disability pride month here in the United States where I live! I figured it would be appropriate to kick things off by talking about a character who has a mixed reputation, to say the least: Guy Gardner, Green Lantern. He's been around since the Silver Age of comics, and his characterization has been through some serious ups and downs over the years! But what if I told you that it's not inconsistent writing? What if I told you there is a lens with which to view his shifting behavioral patterns and at times abrasive and offensive personality that makes it all come into focus and make perfect sense, and it's all already there on the page? I'm here to give you that lens, and it's viewing Guy Gardner as a man who has suffered multiple traumatic brain injuries and managed to heal over time. Buckle up, this is probably going to be a long one, and it's pretty image heavy as I try to back up as much as I am claiming that I can.
So the first thing I will start with is establishing Guy's former baseline. This is not the post where I will go incredibly in-depth on Guy's full family history and his education, I'll save that for another time. Here, I simply aim to sum up. Guy Gardner met Hal Jordan for the first time in the 1991 title Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn, a volume that served as an updated backstory for the Silver Age hero after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Hal was in prison to serve a 90 day sentence for drunk driving. Guy Gardner was Hal Jordan's caseworker.

"What? Huh? That's Guy Gardner?" You, the hypothetical reader ask. What happened to him?!
A lot. A lot happened to him, and it took him from a man who gave the advice to "Use your rage! Don't let it use you!" to a man who is known as the rude angry ginger lantern. First off, he got hit by a bus. No, I'm not being metaphorical or making a joke. See, he quit his job as a prison case worker because he didn't like how the job made him feel, especially after he was caught up in a prison riot and threatened with death at the hands of a prisoner there. So he put his second degree to use and he became a teacher. Specifically, he became a physical education teacher for disabled children. And then there was an earthquake, and he was hit by a bus while attempting to rescue one of the students on a field trip he was running, nearly dying in the process.

Now, I will say: he got better. This time. See, no sooner had he recovered from this incident, as he was filling in for Hal as Green Lantern he was exploded in the line of duty and sent to a parallel dimension. In that parallel dimension he was tortured, and Sinestro used a dangerous and severe form of mind control that, when it was finally broken, left Guy... well, the comics call him comatose, but he is conscious, he is just not responsive to the environment around him or able to care for himself.

For years, he remained in this state, with his care at a top-notch hospital paid for by fellow superheros. And then, during the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, a miracle happened. Guy regained consciousness.

But the Guy who came out of that vegetative state wasn't the same man who fell into it. Or at least, not exactly. He was angrier. His fuse was shorter. Perhaps most upsetting of all, one of the first actions he took upon regaining consciousness was attempted grave robbery.

"Gelpens, what the fuck," you ask me. I know. It's a lot. Bear with me here. See, he didn't wake up on his own. The Guardians of Oa woke him up, using their tremendous cosmic powers to attempt to heal his brain damage so they could deploy him to help during the Crisis.

Sure, Guy got his strength back. He was able to function as a Green Lantern. But he still wasn't the same as he was before his coma. He stayed angry, and confrontational, and was frequently known to make inappropriate comments that failed to fit the setting he was in or the bounds of good taste. He had a constant chip on his shoulder, very different from the man who was concerned about controlling his anger so it couldn't use him.
This all came to a head in a series of events that is frankly infamous in comics circles. Almost every fan I know of who knows Guy Gardner knows about the time Batman got fed up with his confrontational rude attitude and laid him out with a single punch to the face.

The thing people don't remember about that punch is that, seeing as it was the 90s, and comics writers had learned a few things about the brain, they decided to use it to make... let's call it a running joke. See, after Guy regained consciousness, he was much more like the guy he was before all that head trauma. He was polite, cared about being a team player and not trying to prove himself, he didn't go for lethal force!

Of course, this didn't last. No, the whole 'joke' here was that Batman punched him hard enough to rattle his brain, and he would occasionally jump from being a sweet, friendly team player to, in the words of the narration box the first time he got hit on the head again, his new old "thoroughly rotten" self (I know). Slowly but surely though, Guy did get better, and start to stay better. His mood stabilized, he gained more self-control, he started making better plans and he was much less angry as a default. And it's kept going! This train keeps chugging along! He isn't so angry anymore! He has it under control!

And honestly? This moment, right here? This is the crowning jewel in my thesis, I think.

Guy has a Red Lantern ring and a Star Sapphire ring. For those of you less familiar with the extended Green Lantern lore, the Red Lanterns run off rage. The Star Sapphires are powered by love. Outside of willpower, the emotions that are the most powerful within him are his rage and anger, and his love for his friends. And what does he fuel them with, when it comes down to the wire? When willpower alone isn't enough? The thing he hates most is being filled with rage. The thing he loves the most is his friends.
So. I don't think Guy was ever just an angry, sexist, rude asshole at his core. Is he the same as he was before the injury, before all that happened to him? Of course not. Nobody goes through life completely unchanged by what happens to them.
I think he injured his brain and lost his ability to regulate his emotions and impulses for a while. The road to recovery was far from smooth. It just took him some time to heal and be in a place to act like the man he wanted to be all along. But in my opinion? I think he's there now.

Anyone still here?
Oh, hello! Iâve had a lot going on and thus tumblr got lost in all that. Let me give you an update!
1) 2025 is the YEAR OF THE SKULLCAKE WEDDING! On November 1st, my beloved and I will be getting married in a small ceremony in a lovely building in downtown Madison đ
2) I HAVE OFFICIALLY CHANGED MY NAME! So Kit and I were discussing last names, and I didnât want to use Cornell and her last name is kinda long, so we decided to go with something else. There were jokes about going by Emerich (as in Hal Emerich from Metal Gear Solid), and a couple other that I canât remember, but Kit had the idea of honoring my late Grandma Rose by using her maiden name. So now, as of March 24th, I am Paxie Rose Monroe. I got my entire name taken care of at once in order to make it easier on Kit when she changes her name when we get married.
3) Iâm still doing my small business, âCryptids, Cuties and Chaosâ! I am terrible at selling online, but hopefully going to get better at that this year. I am doing a lot of in person markets and having a great time with those â¤ď¸
4) Iâve started doing crafting streams on Twitch! Itâs mostly going to be me working on stuff for markets, drinking coffee and chatting, but Iâll also answer questions about whatever craft Iâm working on, and others if Iâm able! Follow Internet Auntie Paxie for Crafts, Coffee and Chill!
That⌠is about it! Iâm going to try to be more active on here, but weâll see what happens lol

Loved the latest newfag update!! Your writing is so evocative. No clue if someone has asked this already, but what things have been your inspiration for nfrtg?
Insert photo of joker peter griffin smoking a blunt here
thank you so so much !!! i very much appreciate it
so many things! so so many! i am truly a child of internet depravity so naturally a lot of nfrtg comes from just having existed on the worst sites of the web for so long, the high i would get from seeing absolutely abhorrent shit, etc etc â the banner ads in particular are trying to evoke the same feeling i had when i would go on bestgore and see porn ads and be like huh. hmm. what an interesting melding of the minds.
UHMMMM vivianâs ghost by hal schrieve and what happens next by maximumgraves !!!!! are HUGE sources of inspo!!! also amazing comics that everyone should read
FLUIDS BY MAY LEITZ!!!! and literally everything may posts on youtube. like where would i be without her content. incredible authorâi read fluids and was like âoh yeah this is everything ive ever wanted in a bookâ
and then nfrtg was already well underway when i discovered sadsack by @barbatusart and @meanbossart and it really. really changed me. definitely impacted how i approach the more upsetting stuff in nfrtg. sad sack is incredible and i still think about it every day.
ok also i saw two plays while i was writing the preliminary draft of nfrtg that were just so relevant and so incredibleâ degenerates by else went and JOB by max wolf friedlichâthey both projected me into the sun (/pos) and i went home after both of them and wrote so much.
and then uh hereâs an assorted bag of things that inspired nfrtg also!:
normal porn for normal people; barry hbo; search party; i mean. every cronenberg film??; weird nj (i was obsessed with this mag i would read it constantly as a kid and just have panic attacks); scenic central new jersey (an actual place despite what SOME PEOPLE try to tell you) and all its weird timewarpy stuffy vibes; house of leaves; i mean. jvâs writing (but specifically the like. very dumb moments of nfrtg are directly inspired by his ability to just shift gears mid-character crisis into something so stupid.); UH! UH! MARBLE HORNETS??????; thereâs actually too many things to name so im done now
i hope you were expecting a really long list!!!!!!!!! everyone go explore Everything i just mentioned fill ur brains with art!!!!!!

The Ageless Mission
Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Ă Bruce Wayne/Batman

Timeline Information:
Both Bruce and Hal are already on their 50s, while had been married for 10+ years.
While on an intergalactic fight, an enemy blast hit Bruce that it made him fell to the ground. Having no clue to what happened to him when the other is saving him, he got asked multiple times how to finish the mission, but he couldn't recognize even as to why he was there in the first place.
But, the adrenaline of the fights keeps him awake for the time. Until it came down, the fight has been done for, and he told anyone that he didn't know them. Just right about when the people around him starts nagging at him, he's dropped unconscious.
They brought him to Alfred; a few of them helping Alfred to drop his armor, just to find out that it was younger Bruce Wayne that they are seeing.
There's no wrinkles on his face. There's no grey streaks on his temple.
As they're waiting for him to wake up, the Justice League (mostly Hal, because he has the power and the will to do it) searched for the information about the blast. Conclusively, that blast has made Bruce' appearance to be his younger self, while his memory is still intact but it would be hidden somewhere in his brain.
They have to confirm it when Bruce finally wakes up later.

Younger Bruce Wayne wake up, andâ it really is not what they're expected the Bruce Wayne they know is supposed to be (maybe except for Oliver because he knew the man since they were younger).
He could only recognize Alfred and Oliver among the Justice League. He didn't recognize Dick and Jason (not to mention it also means he doesn't remember the Batfam).
But, also, maybe his memories has been mixed up; as to why he could recognize Clark and Diana later on. (And no, He didn't remember the Batman vs Superman thing, neither the making of Justice League and Steppenwolf).
Weeks passed, and they can do nothing about it, except if they found a way to undo it.
With Alfred and Tim's help, he manages to keep up with the updates about Wayne Enterprises. With Clark, J'onn, and Victor, he got helps to keep up with the Justice League. While also it feels confusing and awkward, Dick, Barbara, Tim and Cass helped him to keep up with the Batfam. While he got help from Oliver for a bit combination of all.
Younger Bruce... He could've managed to keep up with Younger Hal if they knew each other when they're younger.
Older Hal maybe not as "reckless" as he was used to, but it managed for Younger Bruce to "make a scene" about it. They have been called each other "names" for years, but the word Younger Bruce said, was kind of not expected by Older Hal.

Hal has tried to tone down his usual self (the usual self which he got when he's finally married to older Bruce) when he's with Younger Bruce. They could still manage to finish the missions. The only way to stop the unhealthy working space, is for older Hal to tone down his self; while also he would do anything by his own to finish the mission, he would choose not to debate on it if Younger Bruce says things about him.
It was actually Clark who actually helped him to recognize the closure of Hal and Bruce.
"There's no way. There's no way I've been married to that dude."
Clark doesn't responds to that. The least he would do is to make a spark on Bruce memory to remember that part of his life.
It was Diana, later on, to tell him that their "working space" hasn't been really healthy as his relation with Hal is not looking good by any chance. She knows that older Bruce is the wiseman of them all, she still feels that about the Younger Bruce; but she also thinks, younger Bruce has that spirit, but it maybe can't be the same as the older Bruce who has been with them for years, while younger Bruce was only with them for a few months.
He confronts J'onn to make him remember. But J'onn knew he couldn't. He couldn't get the access for Bruce memory as the blast has made it even harder to be breached into. The only thing he can do is light up a part of Bruce memory, that it can only be shown to Bruce while the mind readers couldn't see it.
Younger Bruce doesn't want to believe what he saw at first.
But, weeks after that, he asked Hal for a talk. Older Hal just stay silent when he doesn't say anything.
Younger!Bruce: "So, all this time... You knew?"
Older!Hal: "I don't know what you're referring to, butâ I guess so."
Y!B: "Why... why didn't you tell me about it?"
O!H: "It could've been weird, isn't it? I don't even know if you're even gay at the first place to tell you that weâ have been married for more than 10 years."
Y!B: "Why didn't you try?"
O!H: "Oh, I tried. Many times. I tried. But, You can'tâ for the love of God, You can't even take me serious. I know that it also my fault, butâ what can I do about it? Should I yell to you about it? Should I ask all our team to tell you about it? Should I ask the Fam to scream it to you about it?"
Y!B: "Why did you stop?"
O!H: "I can only see that there's nothing I can do about it. It would be weird, awkward, uncomfortable on your part. You don't know how close we were truly are. I don't want to drag you on it. If I can't make you fall in love with me again, then I'll just keep it in my heart while hoping I would never loose you again to some enemy blast. I would be fine even though you don't know anything about us."
The debate goes on for the two of them. Where it goes toâ
Y!B: "Then make me remember it! If we can't, make a new memory about it! I don't fucking care if it's going to rewrite my memory about it. I can no longer hold it, the pain I felt every time I wake up and youâ suddenly appears on my memory. Make it stop!"
He doesn't tell the younger Bruce that he also feels the pain in his heart everytime he remember the memory of him with his older Bruce. He can't deny that this Bruce is his Bruce, but still...
O!H: "I can't rush you to it. I won't. I wouldn't do it if even you just told me to fuck off."
Punching some sense to Hal's face, it rages him for how fast it took Hal to gave up on them. Looking at Younger Bruce who's being furious, Hal recognizes the anger in Bruce's eyes. He looks at Bruce, hopefully. He took the Younger's hands into his, looking at the difference between their hands; between the younger hands and the older hands.
He brought younger Bruce's hands to his cheeks, to feel it. He closed his eyes and sighs in content. Relieved. He misses it. He misses Bruce. He misses their closeness.
It managed to make younger Bruce to shut up, and rather to take the quiet moment as an important thing. He caressed Hal's face gently, feeling the wrinkles that has started to appears more on his face. Feeling the relief.
O!H: "Before you think about it, I'm gonna be the one who took you on a date."
Y!B: "Starting slowly, aren't we?"
O!H: "Do you want it quick? I can do it quickly."
Y!B: "God damn you and your mouth."
O!H: "You liked it, thoughââ
Y!B: "What? What did you say??"
O!H: "Nothing! You'll find out soon enough, if you're game."
Y!B: "Did you justâ challenge me?â
O!H: "Oh, boy... I did."

It took them another months to help Younger Bruce keep up with their "new memory". The Batfam, who already think of Hal as one of their responsible parent, managed to help Bruce to live up with it.
Sometimes, Bruce being younger and Hal being older makes them different than their usual both older Bruce and Hal. The "age" differences has made a new challenge for them.

The Hero of Three Faces is fanfiction crossovers, but itâs comic strips with stick figures, but theyâre triangles. Click here for cartoon homepage. Or see this blogâs FAQ, or my archive tumblogâs FAQ. Cartoons may contain unmarked spoilers. Cartoons posted to Tumblr 11:00 (Central US time) daily are the previous dayâs new update and the posts are pinned to the top of this blog. Cartoons linked from Tumblr 22:00 daily are usually from the archive and the posts are pinned only during annual summer hiatus of new updates; but archive cartoon postings currently are temporarily suspended, and the 11:00 new cartoon post, if any, is reblogged at 22:00.
Thanks for reading.
Dialog transcription: I gather this Parallax being was able to get its hooks into Hal because he's Born Without Fear. This, and our ignorance that Hal was possessed, is how Zero Hour happened. So Hal's real problem was a pair o' lacks

Why is Chert on the âbest place in the system to see astronomical eventsâ when itâs. Not? Ember Twin is right next to the sun; itâs a huge part of their view no matter where they go and it's blocking out a big chunk of what they can see. Even just the Attlerockâs north pole is almost definitely a better spot.
So, the biggest thing, someone had to be on the Twins. Not on Ash Twin, cause itâs starting the loop full of sand, but Ember Twin is fine to start on.
Which derails me from why Chert is Where they are (Iâll come back to it I promise) to why Chert is How they are- if theyâre on Ember Twin, why have they not found the Sunless City yet? Pretty universally (I know my launch order isnât the word of god one but Iâve chosen my hill to die on) Chert is one of the older astronauts, how have they been on Ember Twin for a while and not found it?
Because theyâre not an explorer of anything in our system. Theyâre observing the stars, not exploring the Twins beyond what they need to. Their exploring in their system- the Attlerock, the quantum grove on Timber Hearth, the locator on Ember Twinâs south pole- is done for right now, and they settled to start observing and updating star charts. Anything now is just shooting their scout around to glance at things. So, no exploration under the surface, but, between them mentioning the tunnels under the surface and them telling you about the Nomai wreck on Ember Twin, you have a good idea that something exists under the crust here, just like Brittle Hollow. (Also of off topic note, the Twins are also the only planet(s) that donât have anything of Feldspar having been there- the only sign of Hearthian life is Chertâs notes on the locator on the south pole and Chert themself on the north pole.) You canât have an adventurous or archeology minded Chert without them having found something of the Sunless City and erasing the playerâs status as the Hearthian who discovers that. You could have a lazy Chert, but Chertâs major reason for being in the game requires them to be an astronomer. And that role, in game, is to be your first (or second, if youâre observant) hint that no, you canât save everything, thatâs not your end goal here. A lot of people do get blindsided by the knowledge in the Sun Station, but, both Chertâs progressive panic attack and the visible supernovae littering the sky exist to give you hints before you get there.Â
And coming off of that, Chert is the only traveler without a separate mention when youâre in the village. Gneiss and Hornfels both tell you about all three active astronauts in one sentence, then Feldspar is talked about specifically by Hornfels, Gneiss, and Tephra, Esker is mentioned by Hornfels and Marl, Riebeck is mentioned by Hal and Moraine, Gabbro is mentioned by Hal and Spinel, and no one brings up Chert except in the context of everyone else (And their exhibit in the museum- the supernova one. Chert and Gabbro both have mentions there- Gabbro is the traveler with the second most mentions in the village, because Riebeck doesnât have anything in the museum). And this is mostly because directing you to Chert first, or very early on, gives the game away. Most of their dialogue is about whatâs happening with the sun- if you make it to them, even just as your second stop that first loop, youâre gonna be told everything is dying, way before you have the thread of hope that you can fix whatever the Nomai did to make the sun blow up! So itâs better to let the player make their way to Chert⌠later. I think, in as much as thereâs an âintendedâ order to meet the other travelers, Chert is second to last on the list, but they donât need everything Feldspar the puzzle piece needs.Â
And all of that is also why Chert is on Ember Twin, not anywhere else in the system. Hornfels directs you to the Attlerock if you tell them youâre starting with something small- itâs likely to be one of the first places someone will go, or an early stop, and (Iâll touch on this again for Esker but) you donât go back. So putting Chert, with dialogue that changes throughout the loop, on the Attlerock, means theyâre probably not going to fulfill their in-game role. And again, while further away from the sun would be better for their observing, Brittle Hollowâs surface is too dangerous due to the meteors, Giantâs Deep has that atmosphere, and Dark Bramble is No. The Twins are the only place that really makes sense for Chert to be on, with the front row tickets to the supernova thatâs going to kill them included.Â
As a minor note to end it, to actually be effective observing, Chert has to be on one of the poles- and placing them at the north pole makes them a handy landmark on the way to the lakebed cave, since that trail starts at the bottom of the dry lakebed theyâre camping on. Once you have an idea of where youâre going you can land next to Chert and Drop.
#poisonhemloc's reblog#outer wilds#Riebeck Esker and Spoilers are all. shorter. by a bit. but im gonna get these all up then decide if im putting them on ao3 as meta

Outside of Chuck, Two-brains, Butcher, Big, Rope Guy, and I think Invisibill Do any of the other villains have kids or sucessors in your future au? I remember the post and art of the new generation villains and I'm curious if other villains legacies are continued. Or if they have kids who are just average.
Oh man, it's been a while since I've done stuff with the villain fan kids, huh? Oops. Well, not exactly since privately I'm updating them on my time, but I haven't updated them here publicly or focused on the new villains association in my AU. I'm getting to them slowly. I at least updated Brie's design (two times lol) like a few weeks ago, and Feta is next. But yeah, i really should go back to them. Thanks for the ask reminding me, lol đ
But yes, the other villains aside from the ones you listed do have fan kids I made OR sucessors/other family members who aren't just their kids. Since I believe not every villain would actually be a parent. Kidless representation, yippe. The idea of new villains is one very funny in Future AU since there was a period of time that villain and hero shenanigans fell out and essentially the new generation of villains just happened because of the youths boredom and for some fame. Being a new villain in future au where everyone is grown, is kind of like being a spectacle. And Fair City sees it as a interesting experience for them since, like i said, they've experienced so much peace and prosperity after Wordgirl stopped being a hero that they don't mind when these troublesome youths are like conducting robberies and stuff, to them it's like they're part of a public show. Especially for tourists, they love it. Adult Becky, who retried as Wordgirl, doesn't get it, same with the now old villains. It's just not like the old days. People aren't running in fear.
I guess to streamline who the future au next generation villains/family and their relation to the WG villains.
Here's the ones who are villains/follow in villainy:
-Brie [Villain] Two-brainâs accidental clone experiment daughter. Also has Professor Tubing's DNA making him her dad, too.
-Tamm [Villian] Chuck and Whammer's adopted daughter.
-Revi [Villain] Rope Guy's "adopted" kid. Sees Learnerer as another father. Biological mom is Miss Power, but it's complicated.
-Robbie [Villain] (retcon) adopted daughter of blhg and invisibill.
-Beverley [Villain] Adopted daughter of Mr. Big.
-Millie [Villain] adopted daughter of Butcher.
-Jenna [Villain] The coach's niece. Takes up mantle.
-Denna [Villain] Lady Redundant Woman's niece? (in a way, not really). She's Dupey's daughter, so technically, also her daughter(?), Takes up mantle.
And then there's the next gen villain kids/family members who aren't villains, but miscellaneously on the heroes side or plain average:
-Elaine [Citizen/Hero] Chuck's niece. Brent and Miss Question's daughter. The new district attorney.
-Roochie [Citizen] Chuck's nephew. Brent and Miss Question's first son.
-Hoagie [Citizen/dubious] Chuck's nephew. Brent and Miss Questions second son. Wants to be a villain (unsure).
-Mason [Citizen/dubious] Butcher's adopted son. Wants to be a villain (unsure).
-Jeremy [Citizen/dubious] not related to anyone but gets eventual found familied into The Dtb family. Seen as a Dtb grandkid. He wants to be next Doctor Two Brains (unsure).
-Otty [Citizen] Mr. Big's young nephew. Doesn't want to get involved in family capitalism crime. Threat to the Big family inheritance.
-Feta [Citizen/Hero] The other twin of Two-brainâs accidental clone experiment daughters. Also has Professor Tubing's DNA making him her dad, too. Fulfills more of Tubing's role.
-Roger [Citizen/dubious antihero] Son of Captain Tangent. He's a Pirate. Yar.
-Hallie [Citizen/dubious] Hal's granddaughter. Still a bit young to take over business. But is prepared to. Wants to be a villain (unsure).
-Codey [Citizen] Victoria and Rose's adopted daughter. Often on heros side but does not mind committing little crimes.
-The three tobecky kids [they count? Since Tobey...] uh only Tori [Hero] while Luis and Matilda are just [citizens], but they do help in like some missions.
-Sele May [Citizen/Sidekick] Great Granddaughter of Granny May. (I'm not putting every May grandkid or kid, she's the only relevant one).
- Elias [Citizen] Leslie's nephew. A university student that takes Becky's class.
#wordgirl#tobecky#doctor two brains#chuck the evil sandwich making guy#wordgirl villains#wordgirl ocs#for anyone asking what are the villain names for the new villains..........THAT I STILL NEED TO THINK ABOUT#also yeah confusing quandaries on some of these. yay i love confusion#pb&wham#invisible hand#tubebrains#if you're curious about any other wg villains that arent here shoot an ask ill probably have an answer

Update from the trenches:
There's a new guy in here, doing the usual stuff. Except it's a Batarrow shipper and I kind of don't want them to leave because they bring in some variety. However they do tag Hal in posts where he doesn't even appear and is only mentioned by name.
If you're talking about the posts I'm thinking of, I don't think they're that bad. tbh it just seems like a casual incorrect quotes post that happens to use Hal as a side character and... well I'd be a hypocrite if I got mad at someone for doing that
Yeah it's annoying to see that in the Green Lantern tags but compared to the really awful stuff that's just blatantly wrong or disrespectful toward the GLs, this is basically small potatoes, y'know? Like, if it had been some other DC character being shipped with Ollie instead of Bruce, would we have even noticed?
#all this is assuming we're even talking about the same posts#this ask is several days old and I'm not sure I found the right ones
