Something I didn’t fully realize the extent of until seeing your posts was that they cut pretty much ALL religious imagery. Full scenes cut, card names changed, the works. Best non spoiler examples are that scene with the cards on the crosses being pretty much if not fully cut, and the monster reborn card art change. Something they do for a few cards.

Sub left, Dub right

This one fell under potential religious imagery. There’s a few other card/monster changes like making guns into anything else. Sometimes it just shoots beams of light and usually the gun is changed to look as not gun shaped as possible. Same with monsters that have knives/needles. Either rounded out or replaced with beams of light.

Some of my favorite dub only bits, though, are the added lines. Often, if the Sub left open space with no one talking between scenes, the VAs were asked to just fill the space in the Dub. One of my favorites of those is a Joey bit during Dulist Kingdom after Mai shares her food supplies with them.

That’s all I can remember at the moment that’s not spoilers, but I’ll try to share more as they come up! There’s a few in the future I’m REALLY excited to share cuz they’re just so silly.

What is really interesting is that the art on the Monster Reborn Card is not a Cross, it is an Ankh, which is the ancient Egyptian symbol for life, and now that i think about it is probably why it is the art for the card that gives life to dead monsters.

So this means that the localization team looked at the Ankh and decided to censor it because they thought that it looked similar enough to a Cross.

(Ankh and Cross as a side-by-side comparison. Now that i see them together i can see why they censored it under potential religious imagery. Still funny tho )

The dub really woke up and decided to copy Star Wars. Now I'm just imaging all the scenes with guns, but the guns are replaced with laser pointers and now everyone is terrified of laser pointers.
