Emily Singer at Daily Kos:
Republicans know that the demands President Donald Trump is making of them are bad. But true to their cowardly form, the vast majority of GOP lawmakers refuse to follow their conscience and vote against his destructive policies, fearing that Trump will sic his MAGA loyalists against them and tank their careers. This week, a number of GOP senators voted for a bill that claws back billions of funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as well as foreign aid that Congress had already appropriated—even though the GOP lawmakers admitted they had reservations about the legislation. Multiple Senate Republicans said the Trump administration did not provide them with enough information on what exactly they will cut from foreign aid funding, which gave them pause, yet not enough pause to vote against the bill.
[...] Over on the House side, a bunch of GOP lawmakers who purported to care about child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and releasing the information the government had about his crimes voted this week to block the files from being released. Republicans blocked the release as Trump rails against anyone who is criticizing his administration for not releasing the supposed files, going as far as saying that he doesn’t count anyone who is still talking about Epstein as one of his followers.
Republicans continue to vote for bills they say are bad, all because they are afraid of incurring the wrath of Donald Trump and right-wing media influencers.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed House Concurrent Resolution 14 (H.Con.Res.14). Although circulating posts on social media claimed this would include no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on social security, it did not.

The rule for the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ Act has passed the House of Representatives 219 to 213 after Republicans cowardly debated the bill at 3AM in the morning and the 8 Republicans stalling the bill caved to pressure.
The final vote is expected to happen at 8AM.
Republicans are cowards. They always cave. Republicans have abandoned lower income Americans and in turn abandoned the middle class.
NO Senate Democrat and NO House Democrat voted for this bill.
The midterm elections are in 2026. Please get involved in getting people to register to vote. Protests are useless without voting.
For those of you on Medicaid, SNAP food stamps, or any other social safety net program that helps you on your feet.. I’m so sorry this country abandoned you.

Musk may have torpedoed the original House bipartisan continuing resolution last week because it would have regulated his business dealings in China.
House Democrats Jim McGovern of Massachusetts and Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut say their Republican colleagues in Congress caved to the demands of Elon Musk, sinking a bipartisan government funding bill that would have regulated U.S. investments in China. Congress passed a separate stopgap funding bill over the weekend, averting a government shutdown. In a series of posts on X, McGovern said more could have been accomplished. The scrapped provision “would have made it easier to keep cutting-edge AI and quantum computing tech — as well as jobs — in America,” he wrote. “But Elon had a problem.” Tesla, run by Musk, is the only foreign automaker to operate a factory in China without a local joint venture. Tesla also built a battery plant down the street from its Shanghai car factory this year, and aims to develop and sell self-driving vehicle technology in China. “His bottom line depends on staying in China’s good graces,” McGovern wrote about Musk. “He wants to build an AI data center there too — which could endanger U.S. security. He’s been bending over backwards to ingratiate himself with Chinese leaders.” SpaceX, Musk’s aerospace and defense contractor, has reportedly withheld its Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan at the request of Chinese and Russian leaders. Taiwan is a self-ruling democracy that Beijing claims as its territory. Taiwan’s status is one of the biggest flashpoints in U.S.-China relations.
There's an obvious conflict of interest here. Musk doesn't want to offend China because he's worried that it may hurt his bottom line.
Musk contributed $277 million to the Trump campaign and other Republican causes during the 2024 cycle, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Since the election in November, Musk has become a nearly constant presence at Trump’s side, including in meetings with foreign leaders. Trump appointed Musk to co-lead a group that’s not yet formed, but will be tasked with finding ways to cut regulations, personnel and budgets.
At least part of the reason Musk contributed heavily to Trump and other Republicans may be to get them to go soft on China for the sake of his business interests.

David Badash at NCRM:
Republicans ground the House to a halt Wednesday afternoon after U.S. Rep. Erin Houchin (R-IN) objected to remarks made by Rules Committee Ranking Member Jim McGovern (D-MA), during which he delivered a short overview of the 88 criminal charges Donald Trump is facing, and civil court findings including one deeming him an adjudicated rapist. “Take down his words,” Congresswoman Houchin declared, interrupting Rep. McGovern. “I demand that his words be taken down.” For more than one hour, according to Fox News’ Chad Pergram, the people’s business stopped as Republicans, angered by the Democrat’s factual remarks, had them investigated by the House Parliamentarian. “Donald Trump might want to be a king, but he is not a king,” Congressman McGovern observed. “He is not a presumptive king. he’s not even the president – he’s a presumptive nominee.”
“At some point,” McGovern told his congressional colleagues, “it’s time for this body to recognize that there is no precedent for this situation. We have a presumptive nominee for President facing 88 felony counts, and we’re being prevented from even acknowledging it. These are not alternative facts. These are real facts. A candidate for President of the United States is on trial for sending a hush money payment to a porn star to avoid a sex scandal during his 2016 campaign, and then fraudulently disguising those payments in violation of the law. He’s also charged with conspiring to overturn the election. He’s also charged with stealing classified information and a jury has already found him liable for rape and a civil court. And yet, in this Republican controlled House, it’s okay to talk about the trial but you have to call it a sham.” The decision to strike McGovern’s “offensive” remarks appears to have come from U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-AL), who was presiding over the chamber. He cited House Rule XVII, which Pergram reported “says House members are prohibited from impugning the motives of fellow House members, senators or the President. And in this case, the former President.”
Earlier, before Rep. Houchin demanded his remarks be stricken, McGovern also blasted Republicans for traveling to New York in their “cult uniforms,” to show support for Donald Trump at his criminal trial in Lower Manhattan. The Massachusetts Democrat told his colleagues, “my friends over the other side of the aisle have pandered to their most extreme members over and over and over again. They let the extremists kick out their own Speaker. They let the extremists dictate the agenda on the House floor. They let the extremists take down seven rule votes since January 2023 – a stunning indictment of their ability to get anything done. And speaking of indictments, Republicans are skipping their real jobs to take day trips up to New York to try to undermine Donald Trump’s criminal trial. No time to work with Democrats, but plenty of time to put on weird matching cult uniforms and stand behind President Trump with their bright red ties like pathetic props.”

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA)’s speech on the House floor calling out criminal defendant Donald Trump was delivering truth bombs left and right, and it made Republicans upset, especially the part in which he said that Trump “might want to be a king, but he is not a king” and the fact that he was calling out his criminality.
Rep. Erin Houchin (R-IN) was the Republican who ordered a frivolous halt to McGovern’s speech by demanding “that his words be taken down.” Floor Presider Jerry Carl (R-AL) granted Houchin’s request, and McGovern was barred from speaking on the Floor for the rest of the day.

God damn Trump is genius when it comes to public relations. Does anyone remember earlier, this past fall when Boeing had a technical malfunction and couldn’t get the astronauts? Biden was still in office and asked spacex if they could assist. They agreed and the astronauts decided to stay up and do some more work.
In December spacex, NASA, and the Biden administration come together and work out that sometime in early spring, between February and March, spacex would retrieve them.
This was already set! Long before Trump took office! This was already scheduled!!!
Now Trump is taking credit for it?!! And NPR and nearly all the news outlets seemed to have forgotten?
I mean… I know I may consume too much current events but I clearly remember both these occurrences.
This administration is going to test the limits of what’s true and real, versus what’s completely made up and fictional…
