A lyric that originally confused me a bit in Provider was, "your outer shell; your secret insider." At first, it seemed a bit of a backwards juxtaposition, one that didn't match up as well as others in their discography.

My first thought was that it was referring to being someone's 'protector' of sorts. Existing as a hardened exoskeleton, yet simultaneously managing to settle under the skin of the very person they're shielding. Barely even there, but making a home where it's well deserved.

Then, I remembered the chemistry motif. The "outer shell," typically refers to the last 'shell' around an atom, otherwise known as a valance shell. Basically, electrons surround a nucleus in varying levels (first shell holds two, second holds eight, the third eighteen etc.), and, the number of electrons on the furthest shell decide its chemical properties (how reactive it'll be, is it flammable etc.), and, if it'll be "acid or alkaline."

Neat little possible callback, I thought.

Furthermore, if an atom has an incomplete outer shell, it'll be unstable, but through a covalent bond (in non-metals), can be stabilized if another molecule shares it's electrons.

In short, they become equal; on stable ground with one another. To be someone's "outer shell," means to have a chemical, balanced bond with them; to keep them steady.

I think that really fits, considering the title of the song.

So I'm not going to point any fingers or name any names (mostly because this is in response to anon bullshit) but the amount of god-awful takes I have seen this week is a little insane. Especially considering how many of them are straight up just putting words in Vessel's mouth when he was very, very clear with the message this time. It was pretty straightforward and some of y'all just be making shit up at this point. It was one thing to be misinterpreting it for the first day or two when the initial wave of emotions were still fresh and running very high but we've had almost a week at this point to run through it and hear his words and at this point I don't think some of us are listening to the same song.

I'm not saying the initial response didn't have some of us saying things that we regret or can now admit were worded badly. Many of us have backpedaled a little bit and delivered a clearer and more accurate response after we calmed down a little bit and heard the actual message.

He wasn't talking about the fanfiction, he was talking about people screaming his real name at shows and posting his unmasked face all over the internet. He wasn't saying he was uncomfortable with people thinking he's sexy, he was talking about how he's scared of people showing up at his house.

He doesn't want us to stop being fans and doing typical fan shit, he presents himself in this manner and expected us to react to that accordingly from the beginning. He knows what we say and frankly if he cared that we have horny thoughts about him he'd probably alter his stage presentation or find a way to tell us he was uncomfortable with it. If he cared about shipping he wouldn't make out with his band multiple times every show. Nobody who gives a damn about shipping tops their bassist live on stage, let's be honest with ourselves here.

He still loves us as we are, he just wants to be left the fuck alone in his real life, that's literally exactly what he's says and that's all he says. Stop twisting his words as a way to hate on other fans when it was a message aimed at people I hesitate to call fans to begin with.

You know, looking at Damocles through the lore lens is SO interesting. Because the one thing we do officially have is how Sleep Token came to be.

From their 2017 Metal Hammer interview:

"Vessel encountered Sleep in a dream, with promise of glory and magnificence if Vessel followed Him."

Success, fame, power in exchange for worship. Seems easy enough right? Vessel took the deal, and sure enough, the glory came. But it all comes to a price doesn't it? To worship was the condition, not the payment - it's just that Vessel didn't know how big the cost was. He wanted to get to the top, but didn't realise how steep was the fall.

This reads like a fae's trick, like a twisted granted wish from a genie. A crossroads deal with the devil.

There are many theories about the moral nature of Sleep - are They benevolent or malicious? Is there space for ambiguity? Do They have any regard for their mortal worshippers, or is divine power the only thing They crave?

Regardless of where one stands on it (and really, it's such an open concept that there's definitely space for all of these to co-exist), Damocles to me cements how malevolent and capricious Sleep is. Because if pain and despair is what They crave, why would They warn a mere feeble human of the consequences of the success they so desperately seek?

Especially after TMBTE - we thought that Vessel would finally retaliate, and it was precisely after that decision to fight, to bite back, that they reached the top and saw what was awaiting there. Almost as if Sleep lulled him into a false sense of security, let him hope for the best, gave him a taste of grandeur, and let him find out for himself his golden palace was just another cage - one built with his own flesh and bone.

And how is he supposed to escape from that prision, when the warden is himself?

Hello, I'm not sure if you're aware, but tumblr is going to start helping midjourney gather data for their AI. You're one of the artists I follow here pretty actively and I wanted to warn you to maybe start nighshading your art before posting it here so it doesn't get swept up!

I've seen a couple of posts about it. Feeling disappointed but not that surprised. Also not excited about having to start nightshading/glazing my pieces but if there isn't going to be any serious regulations regarding data scraping and ai "art", there aren't a lot of choices.

I have a question about the jp server pickups, since I really want knight Sebek, but I’m trying to save gems for bloom malleus + the 3rd tsum event that’s gonna show up sooner or later. Iirc, after knight Sebek, the next story update’s pickup had all of the previous story cards (ie cerberus Ortho, general Lilia, and knight Sebek). Is this true, and if it is, did it include a token system like the dorm pickups where you can just do 100 pulls and then buy the specific card you want directly? Because if that is how it works, then I can wait until then and be sure I won’t have to go to 200 for him.

we did indeed get a second chance at those three when 7-7 came out! I'm pretty sure there was not a token system -- though admittedly I don't 100% remember, sorry! 🙇 I took a quick search through some past posts/videos from people who tend to include the gacha and news stuff, but I didn't see any mention of it, so I'm inclined to think there really wasn't one. :( they were all separate pickups with their own pull counts rather than a combined one, if that info helps at all.

speaking as a strict f2p who hoards keys/gems like the lovechild of a dragon and a magpie, given the choice between saving for a story card and a birthday card, I'd go for story -- it does require a lot of patience, but there are way more opportunities to get past birthday cards, both from the anniversary events and the rerun pickups! tsums is a bit harder to say anything on because Eng doesn't follow the same event schedule, but it's a longish event and those pickups let you have a free 10-roll, so I think they're also a bit easier to save up for.

(ALSO speaking of free rolls, starting with the fifth round of birthdays -- the kutsurogi my room ones -- the birthday boy/union jacket/bloom cards have had a separate pickup that you can get two free 10-pulls at by doing missions! I got a bloom Jade from it a couple weeks ago. :D meanwhile general Lilia is the only story card I've ever managed to pull, so...I'm probably kinda biased. whoops.)
