In  a blistering  attack West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee labeled the Election Commission (EC) as a “puppet” operating under the directives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing an election rally at Chinsurah, Hooghly district, Banerjee criticised the EC for scheduling the polls over a period of two months, alleging that this decision favoured the saffron party while disregarding the hardships faced by the common people due to excessive heat.

“The Election Commission is a puppet and operates according to Modi’s directions. Poll is being held for two-and-half months, have you (poll officials) ever realised the struggle of the common people,” Banerjee said. Accompanying the party’s Hooghly nominee actress Rachana Banerjee, the CM accused Modi of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by allegedly announcing plans to expand the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to cover senior citizens over 70 years of age during the ongoing elections.

“Why are you saying this now when the elections are on? You should have announced this earlier… Modi babu, you are violating the MCC,” she said. Banerjee expressed skepticism about the BJP’s ambitious target of achieving 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

“BJP is claiming of winning 400 seats, but people are saying it will not happen this time. We (TMC) will support the INDIA bloc from outside to form a government at the Centre,” she said. Banerjee declared her party’s unwavering stance against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Bengal.

हल्द्वानी में जो हिंसा हुई उसकी वजह ढहाया गया वो अवैध मदरसा नहीं। असली वजह है वहां अवैध तरीके से बसाये गए रोहिंग्या। पहले इनको वोट बैंक‌ की खातिर अवैध रूप से इनको बसाया गया। और बाद में जरूरत पड़ने पर इन घुसपैठियों को अवैध मदरसे, UCC और CAA के नाम पर उकसाया गया। समझने वालों के लिए इशारा काफी है।

UCC : Historic, Uttarakhand becomes first state to pass bill by voice vote ; This law is not against anyone Says Pushkar Singh Dhami

The Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill, introduced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami-led state government, passed in the House. After passing the UCC Bill in the Assembly, Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code.

The Bill, which was passed by voice vote, was introduced in the BJP-majority assembly a day earlier and the opposition had suggested that it should be sent to a select committee of the House first.

Uttarakhand Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal told ANI , “When the law is implemented, all ill societal norms would be eradicated and women would be empowered… Everyone supported it because this was a topic which could not be opposed… The bill will first go to the Governor, then to the President and then we will implement it in the state as a law…��

Once the Bill gets the governor’s consent, Uttarakhand will become the first state after independence to get a common law on marriage, divorce, land, property and inheritance for all citizens, irrespective of their religion.
