At the World Economic Forum, President Donald Trump stated that the US doesn't need Canadian energy, vehicles, or lumber, reiterating his threat of imposing tariffs on Canadian imports—potentially up to 25% by February 1.
Trump suggested Canada could avoid tariffs by "becoming a state," sparking gasps in the Davos audience. The threat has caused unease in Canada, which exports 75% of its goods to the US. Canadian leaders, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, have vowed a "dollar-for-dollar" countermeasure if tariffs are enacted, while pitching Canada as a secure and reliable trading partner.

It’s unreal how one year flew by and I seem to barely have made any progress. Really don’t want to waste another year so hopefully I’ll clear my prelims this time around 😭

Current status: Betrayed by a jar cake
Diagnosis: Food poisoning, a reminder that life’s cruelties come in deceptively sweet forms.
Location: Somewhere between existential dread and Delhi, physically weak but academically obligated to keep going.
Philosophical shift: The abyss was theoretical until now. Now, it is visceral.
Lessons learned:
1. My body is fragile, but my study schedule is unwavering.
2. Stomach pain is temporary, exam stress is eternal.
3. The UPSC syllabus should include “Survival Strategies for Public Transport While Ill.”
Recovery plan: Arrive. Collapse. Study anyway.
Outlook on life: Distressed but determined.
Social abyss out 🫳🎤

President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is gearing up to formally withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO) on January 20, 2025, the day of his inauguration. This move revives Trump’s 2020 decision, citing WHO's alleged influence by China and failure to adopt critical reforms.
As the WHO’s largest donor, the US contributes 16% of its funding, making this withdrawal a seismic shift in global health efforts and crisis management. The decision would overturn President Joe Biden’s 2021 move to rejoin the organization, a key policy reversal set to reshape international health leadership.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump over the suspension of his accounts following the January 6 Capitol riots. Trump sued Meta and CEO Mark Zuckerberg in 2021, claiming political bias.
The settlement, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, allocates $22 million toward Trump’s presidential library and the rest to legal costs. While Meta will not admit wrongdoing, the move marks a turning point in Trump’s relationship with the tech giant. Meanwhile, Meta continues to make waves in AI, defending its $65 billion investment strategy amid rising competition from Chinese AI firms.
