I wish I had a buddy to do the variant dungeons with (and possibly other things that are duo-able)?

Since my cognitive capabilities (like concentration and speed of stimulus processing) are somewhat impaired due to a chronic illness doing these solo is... very straining. Actually too straining, so that my head is mush for several hours after completing just one single run. I can't do this to my brain every day.

But doing things with randos is too stressful for me due to social anxiety (plus I don't want to subject others to my lessened capabilities), so not doing that either.

Sooo... if anyone has a somewhat similar issue, let me know so that we could maybe team up? 😅 I'm on Lich, but mostly online around late morning/ noon (UTC+2 currently during summertime).

She would say the first thing in excitement, and the second with friendly jest. She did accept to take on this journey after all, and she's glad she did for all the history they could find. The past treaties with Amaljaa would hopefully smooth out any lingering protest about restablishing connections and Nanamo would have more power and credibility to stand on as she keeps campaigning for more equality and fairness between citizens.

super mystery dungeon is kind of fun, actually! finished dusknoir's mission a while ago; good news: he's still kind of a bastard (albeit with good intentions)

tfw when your old enemy hauls you and your brother around like grocery bags

i thought about how my hero & partner duo would interact with him in super mystery dungeon and I came to the conclusion that they would absolutely reduce him to atoms for free if not for grovyle and celebi constantly vouching on his name. after all, the last time they saw each other, they had just gotten done vanquishing dusknoir to the shadow realm; they've only heard stories of how dusknoir turned over a new leaf. dusknoir's always been all talk and nothing else.

dusknoir knows that the hero & partner straight up despise him but he genuinely wants to "atone" for what he did and make right by then. not possible. not in the slightest.

also, both my hero & partner are very touchy about personal space and the lack thereof. they're an exlcusive pair which is why you might notice that neither of them are willingly touching dusknoir. you can probably see why "the gripper pokemon" would start to get on their nerves when he's just trying to be helpful.

The brain rot has gotten so bad. Here's some dungeons and daddies characters and what I think their favorite pop/soda would be.

S1 gang

Darryl: he don't fuck around about Dr pepper.

Henry: sparkling water. The occasional LaCroix. Says ginger ale is too sweet.

Glenn: look at this man. You cannot tell me he's not guzzling diet coke like it's his lifeline. He has at least one diet coke merch piece.

Ron: if asked his favorite is cherry Pepsi. His real favorite is crystal Pepsi and he is the only person who misses it.

Jodie: Starry. He insists it tastes nothing like sierra mist. He mixes Skittles in it like a fucked up boba.

Scam Likely/ Actually: actually thought scam was dying the first time scam drank a carbonated beverage. Cannot drink soda.

Walter: Dr pepper and thinks all soda is Dr pepper. Because Darryl would bring him a cup every time they ventured into the realms.

Paeden: thinks carbonation is icky but if he had to choose a flavor it would be coke.

S2 gang

Grant: drank so much monster in his youth he got kidney stones and now isn't allowed soda or energy drinks per Marco's request

Terry: strawberries and cream Dr pepper. Doesn't like actual Dr pepper but will drink this stuff till he gets a tummy ache abt it.

Lark: grape soda. That shit that tastes like purple? He loves it. Also don't leave him alone with sweet tea.

Sparrow: owns a soda stream and actually uses it. Doesn't flavor it at all tho. Sometimes put a lemon in for "flavor"

Nicky: Not much pop tastes good in the sweltering heat of hell but he is able to raid Glenn's fridge at any time. Which is stocked with an ungodly amount of diet coke. Not his favorite but he'll drink it.

Lincoln: also under the carbonation ban but he will fuck up a rootbeer if given the chance. He loves rootbeer floats.

Scary: Vanilla Coke. Wants a freaky amount of vanilla syrup added to it when they order from sonic.

Normal: Grape soda out of convenience. Hasn't tried much else but Lark has a stash of it in the basement. After a long day at school he'll go down and say "I need a drink, something strong" and be given a grape pop.

Taylor: Mountain Dew. Look at him. Look at him and tell me he wouldn't drink mountain dew out of a wine glass.

Hermie: Mountain Dew code red. But if given the chance he will carbonate straight Red-40 and drink it like water.

O-Dads

Willy: Crystal Pepsi. Thought about his first decree on the throne of god making it a thing again till he found out it was also Ron's favorite.

Bill: Coke but he thinks it's just a mixer for Jack Daniels and doesn't realize people drink just coke.

Barry: one time Bill let him have a cup of his coke and he threw up because he chugged it. Thinks all soda is poison and isn't convinced Bill didn't try to kill him.

probably something niche, but something that I like in s2 of dndads is how there are literal holes in the story. Not in the sense that those are plot holes, but more in a way that we follow the adventure of the teens and not any other characters. We find out how characters from s1 are doing only when they interact with teens and only if teens ask them. We don't know how Erin died, or how Cassandra met Willy, or how any of the other spouses reacted to the Mayor's takeover, and so on. And this leaves a place for the fans to fill up the gaps.

And one of my favourite gaps of this kind is the moment after teens go to Hell, leaving their dads and Willy on a parking lot of D.A.D.D.I.E.S

We don't know what exactly happened with them after the teens leave, but we can sort of deduce it through the state of the kiddads next time we meet them. Which, I remind you, is when kiddads are literally enslaved by Willy, who pressures them into finding the last of the Doodler's anchors. We also know that Nicky is not with them and instead followed the teens into Hell, BUT only after some time, cuz he arrived only by the end of the game.

So. What the hell happened.

My personal hc, is that kiddads fought Willy on that parking lot. Just immediately drew weapons and spells and tried their hardest to beat this old man up. Nicky was already fighting Willy, and I think he was hella surprised to see his ex-friends joining the fight. I think he and the rest of the kiddads had this mutual silent agreement to deal with their issues after they dealt with Willy, so they kind of fought together for the first time in years. Maybe they even performed a couple of strategies together, all just for a chance to kill Willy (and because they missed each other<33)

But also. Knowing Willy, his plan was probably that Scary tries to get the anchor in Hell while he tries to get one on the Old Earth. So he comes prepared with the collars. Considering how the next time we see kiddads, they all are wearing the magic collars, it's safe to assume they lost.

So. At some point, during the fight, Willy was able to overpower or trick the kiddads and make them wear magic collars. In my hc, he did this one by one, until only Nicky and Terry Jr were left. And Willy almost got Nicky, only for Terry to swap places with him, leaving Nicky the only one not captured.

I have this whole scene imagined, where Terry asks Nicky to go help the teens, because he is the only one who can portal to Hell. Nicky obviously doesn't want to just run away, especially after being saved by one of his betrayers, his ex-best friend. And Terry, knowing this, tries to make Nicky escape to Hell in another way, pleading with him to think of Taylor. When that doesn't work, Terry tries to attack Nicky to literally pressure him to escape, and only then does it work.

The last thing Terry says to Nicky(which at the same time is his last words to Nicky), as the portal closes behind him, is to take care of Scary.

ULTIMAHJONG is in the exact spirit of the likes of Balatro, Bingle Bingle & other casino/gambling-based roguelikes/deckbuilders that have been inundating the indie gaming scene recently and which I’ve personally been happily drowning in! In this case the base game is Mahjong & it’s straight up Riichi Mahjong based thankfully rather than the deluge of puzzle solitaire tile matching games that overwhelm Steam

Currently has playable demo on top of being Wishlistable. The dev predicts a release this year & I’m absolutely purchasing it on day one if for nothing else than to reward a halfway legitimate Mahjong game!

Speaking of the dev, they themselves ran through a few rounds of the early game to show it off:

Don’t know how many this post will reach but I’m happy to do my part to raise the population of Mahjong Enthusiasts out here on top of supporting innovative indie devs & their projects!

My luck finding out about these types of personally niche games seems to remain at an all time high because I’m obliged to update this post with a 2nd Roguelike Mahjong Deckbuilder on the horizon: AOTENJO

Similar to ULTIMAHJONG in intent but with its own distinct style & also has a free demo on Steam to try out.

One of AOTENJO’s major features is the inclusion of multiple regional mahjong variants to enrich the variety of the play experience!

Unlike in the case of ULTIMAHJONG, AOTENJO’s developer XO Cat’s YT channel (under the moniker NonToxicEel), lacks a similar in-depth breakdown of the game’s demo but does have a few videos attempting speedruns of the demo and are still a recommended watch to get the game flow & feel they’re aiming for:

Once again, I happily embrace the Mahjong renaissance we seem to be getting in our post-Mahjong Soul & Balatro indie gaming landscape!
