super mystery dungeon is kind of fun, actually! finished dusknoir's mission a while ago; good news: he's still kind of a bastard (albeit with good intentions)
tfw when your old enemy hauls you and your brother around like grocery bags
i thought about how my hero & partner duo would interact with him in super mystery dungeon and I came to the conclusion that they would absolutely reduce him to atoms for free if not for grovyle and celebi constantly vouching on his name. after all, the last time they saw each other, they had just gotten done vanquishing dusknoir to the shadow realm; they've only heard stories of how dusknoir turned over a new leaf. dusknoir's always been all talk and nothing else.
dusknoir knows that the hero & partner straight up despise him but he genuinely wants to "atone" for what he did and make right by then. not possible. not in the slightest.
also, both my hero & partner are very touchy about personal space and the lack thereof. they're an exlcusive pair which is why you might notice that neither of them are willingly touching dusknoir. you can probably see why "the gripper pokemon" would start to get on their nerves when he's just trying to be helpful.

Berylian Pikachu
Electrodent Pokémon Type: Electric/Dragon Size: 2'00" | 26.5 lbs Ability: Fluffy or Thunderous: The Pokémon electrifies its body, allowing it to deal additional Electric damage with its physical moves and to attackers that make direct contact. The effect increases with an active Electric Terrain, but is canceled by sandstorms and other sand and mud-based moves. Hidden Ability: Electric Surge Evolution Method: Evolves from Pichu by leveling up with high friendship while in the Beryl Region
Description: Berylian Pikachu, unlike their temperate forest-dwelling counterparts, are adapted to the harsher, less wooded environments of Beryl. By changing their diet and becoming gluttonous, they have evolved to be larger, fluffier, with more muscle and fat, sacrificing speed and agility for enhanced physical attack, defense, and stamina. This allows Berylian Pikachu to deliver powerful blows, run long distances, and better protect young Pichu from predators. The mystical energy of the Beryl region also granted this line a Dragon-type, making them more aggressive and hostile towards most Pokémon, except other electric rodents. Berylian Pikachu's fluffy fur retains the electricity that is discharged from their cheeks, enabling them to electrify their physical moves or generate an electric shield when overcharged. Unlike the common Pikachu, the Berylian variant is nomadic, rarely staying in one place for long. When colonies meet, half of the newly evolved Pikachu migrate to new groups. Annually, during the rainy season, the oldest Pikachu gather in crystal-rich areas, causing storms as they dance until triggering their evolution into Gorachu.
---
Gorachu
Jackalope Pokémon Type: Electric/Dragon Size: 4'07" | 154.3 lbs Ability: Fluffy or Thunderous Hidden Ability: Electric Surge Evolution Method: Evolves from Berylian Pikachu while using Dragon Dance with an active Electric Terrain
Description: After completing the mysterious ritual, Berylian Pikachu evolve into Gorachu. While Gorachu become more friendly towards other Pokémon, they remain fiercely protective and aggressive when their colony is threatened. They develop belly pouches to carry young Pichu and their food, ensuring safety from any dangers during travels. In the wild, Gorachu collectively care for all the young Pichu, treating others' offspring as their own. Once trained, they become loyal partners, even babysitting their trainers' own children and other baby Pokémon. Using their powerful legs, Gorachu are able to leap great distances; however, their large size and lack of agility make it hard to stop or change direction quickly. When facing an opponent, they can lash by bashing them with their fluffy, electrified tails and jabbing with their horns, which are made of crystallized electric energy. If their horns break, they will grow back larger than before, symbolizing strength and experience. Berylian people craft accessories from these horn fragments, believing they bring luck and happiness. Some researchers speculate that Berylian Pikachu and Gorachu are the original forms of Pikachu and Raichu, with common variants being adaptations to less harsh environments; Kantonian myths and an article in the Scarlet book support this theory.
Berylian Pikachu and Gorachu were commissioned, designed by, and belong to Daraen. Thanks!

Pokémon Pocket Monsters Sun Moon Volume 1 - Chapter 1
Red pits Clefairy against Pikachu in a Pokémon battle to determine who will be the new star of the manga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Sun and Moon saga begins. And unlike the XY series, we actually get a surprisingly good first chapter. Complete with a prologue.
It's surprising that the people of Alola already know about Clefairy and his bizarre antics. In most other regions, nobody knew who Clefairy was, and it was only after they interacted with him that they realized how moronic he could be. CoroCoro isn't distributed in Hawaii, is it? (You could only wish a magazine like this was published in parts of the US.)
The main draw of this chapter is the battle between Clefairy and Pikachu. There aren't any made-up moves used throughout the match either. The attacks used by the two are legitimate moves they can learn. With Clefairy, we get an extensive look at his moveset, which consists of entirely new attacks.
Tumblr media
Light Screen is an attack that we've never seen Clefairy use before. Visually, it's a bit similar to Barrier from the second chapter of the original series. But instead of being used at the wrong time, Clefairy uses it correctly. Only to fumble it up.
The other move Clefairy tries to use is Metronome. And despite being an attack that is mostly associated with Clefairy (that's paired more with Togepi these days), isn't really used in this manga. This is the second time Anakubo missed out on including something in Pokémon Pocket Monsters that personally ties to Clefairy. First Mt. Moon and now this. If this Clefairy doesn't come from the moon, I'd be even more disappointed.
Clefairy's final new move is Fire Blast. Here, instead of releasing a giant flame in the shape of the kanji for "great" (大), Clefairy lies on the ground with his body in the shape of the symbol before lighting himself on fire. It's not shown how he hits the opponent with it. But my best guess is that he rams himself into the enemy with great force.
We've never seen Clefairy use any moves since the original series. (The last attack he learned was Sing. But that move was only ever used in Pokémon Pocket Monsters RS.) Most of the time, they're just actions that result in comedic gags. But here, Clefairy is given a new set of attacks, with one of them being a unique use of the move in the franchise.
Zygarde's appearance in this chapter is a bit brief. He only shows up to end the chapter by showing how bad a fighter Clefairy is. I'd be kind of disappointed and even a bit angry. But I think Zygarde's treatment makes sense given the plot of the chapter. It's only natural for Clefairy to prove how much of a fluke his victory was by fighting what could be considered a powerful Pokémon.
I'm actually amazed. "Clefairy Steps Down?! Who Will Take The Lead Role?!" is a surprisingly good start to the Sun and Moon saga. The flow of the story is solid, it doesn't flash ugly faces at the reader as a poor attempt at comedy, and there's a lot of action that keeps them hooked. The battle between Clefairy and Pikachu is easily the best part of the chapter. (You have to remember that we haven't seen a Pokémon battle in this manga since Pokémon Pocket Monsters BW.) It easily makes up for all the garbage I had to sit through during Pokémon Pocket Monsters XY.
I'm looking forward to what will happen in the next chapter!
TRANSLATOR'S NOTES
According to the prologue, Pokémon Pocket Monsters went through a 12-month hiatus.
Tumblr media
If you remember an earlier blog post, the manga's last hiatus was in January of this year. While 2 months is fine on its own, an entire year is something else. Given what he did with Pokémon Pocket Monsters XY, a hiatus seemed to have worked well for Anakubo. Given the publication dates of chapters from Pokémon Pocket Monsters XY, this would put the start of Pokémon Pocket Monsters Sun Moon at either the end of 2016 or in the middle of 2017. The latter date is more plausible as the blurb for this volume mentions the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon versions of the games, which were revealed earlier that same year.

So the three pikachu designs I used in @ask-sonicxpokken I no longer have right to use, due to a squabble that I don’t want to get into.
So here’s the new designs I have made for them that use canon colors of pikachu from different games
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While the one with long stripes is a reference to Gorechu
Tumblr media
I will be, 100% honest.
This year I made a promise to myself I would be nicer to myself and not get bullied from things I love…
It’s, not easy.
But I am taking steps in getting better at that, and those steps include just making small steps in a direction.
So… Sonic x pokken out of any of the pokemon blogs, might return soon. Since my love of Sonic is enough to help me through days like this.
Overall, I want to genuinely thank people who are supportive of me and my work and I hope you all continue to enjoy both my work and your own.

Rat
Elod is a Pikachu variation and he’s part of my PMD project (second generation). I’ve written some stuff about what makes his variation a little unique. Keep reading below if you’d like to learn more about him.
-------------------------------------
Riakan Pikachus are elusive creatures; they can be encountered but instead of foraging around in the tall grass until you find one, they’ll almost always jump out at you. Especially if you’re alone. They’re known as The Snatching Pokémon as they’re attracted to numerous, beautiful things. Some Pikachus are attracted to gemstones. Others, to music. Others still to old or rare items. It depends.
The more items a Riakan Pikachu accumulates, the bigger they grow with the largest ever documented standing at around 4 ft tall (not including the ears). They come in a variety of fur patterns, but most are brown to blend in with the forest. They are much fluffier than their Kantonian counterpart and are often likened to hares with their long ears and hunched-over statures. Make no mistake, they’re rats. Though they do not live in packs, if one Pikachu is disturbed, they will call upon others of their kind and viciously attack (and sometimes hex) those who disturb them.
Riakan Pikachus have a tendency to steal things… valuable things. Sometimes irreplaceable things. In the past, this species was sometimes responsible for missing infants and children. If they find a human particularly interesting, they will try to ensnare their victim with its charm and lure them deeper into the woods only to never let them leave. There are some tales about the species being able to turn humans into pokémon or even into still-sentient, wearable items. Tales that are, unfortunately, true.
Trainers who find and successfully manage to tame a Riakan Pikachu will often find themselves with a zealous, easily provoked companion. Riakan Pikachus are very territorial creatures and will go to great lengths to protect what they consider to be their property, going so far as to “terminate” potential threats by transfiguring them into useless items or muddying their senses with hallucinations. They’re also known to pickpocket and sway other people into giving them things. As such, even if you were to tame a Riakan Pikachu, you can’t take them into cities.
-------------------------------------
As for Elod specifically, he’s a bit on the shorter side. While he’s an electric-type, he can’t wear pretty much any necessary explorer gear like a bag, a money pouch, or a map; they interfere with the distribution of his electricity. As such, Elod has found ways of getting around the issue by either magnetizing his items or dropping all non-conductive items when it comes time to battle. Due to these issues, he’s affectionately referred to as Watts (as he doesn’t produce a lot).
Elod doesn’t like to battle; he just wants to collect shiny trinkets and glittering gemstones which is what inspired him to become an explorer. He’s more of a follower than a leader and if he thinks it necessary, he’ll flee dangerous situations. It doesn’t mean that he’s weak, though. His electrical attacks- when unhindered- are incredibly potent and his persuasion checks almost always succeed meaning that he can almost always outsmart, outspeed, or overpower an opponent. He did get tossed around like a football when he was just starting out, though.

@pokemon-isekai Vivianne@Saguaro
Vivianne: "What was the first Pokémon you got? And which Pokémon made you so interested in variants?"
Tumblr media
Saguaro: Now this may seem pretty funny, but if we're not counting my Service Pokémon, Mint, my very first Pokémon was actually Lunar when he was still a lil Scorbunny.
Tumblr media
Saguaro: I was still absolutely terrified of Fire Types that even harmless lil Lunar scared me. As for what got me so interested, well…
Tumblr media
Saguaro: My interest started when I first ran into a Galarian Meowth. The one I caught and raised as a Trainer isn't this one of course, but I did catch one while I was a Trainer.
Tumblr media
Saguaro: Imagine my surprise when the Meowth doesn't evolve into a Persian, but a Purrserker! A completely different Pokémon! They jumpstarted my curiosity on Variants. Then of course, Superstar there evolved again, which Hoennian Linoone can't… And I kept meeting more and more Variants that evolved into a different Pokemon than what's considered 'the norm'.
Tumblr media
Saguaro: I'll admit, I've always been a bit interested in Pokémon ever since I was a very young child… My late mother talked a lot about her home Region, Alola, and showed me some Alolan Pokémon…. but that interest was nowhere near the fascination I have with them.
[Cameo of Darren the Raboot from @blazing-destiny, still battling Tanga and Durin!]
{Egg check: It's moving some. [4/10]}

Two unrelated Pokémon thoughts I had today :
1) They should definitely make a regional variant of Mimikyu that dresses as Charizard instead of Pikachu.
2) I've seen people refer to Samoyed dogs as "land clouds", because of their immaculate and exceptionally fluffy fur, and honestly, I think it'd be a great idea for a Pokémon. A happy-go-lucky doggo who also happens to be an actual cloud.

Another 'in the Anon Collection for about half an hour before I went "fuck it" and owned up to the thing' incident has occurred.
It is a heartwarming story about Thor, Sylvie, and an electric mouse-creature. It is crack but it is also, I am sure, basically canon as well. For both the MCU and the Pokemon universe. Which I know very little about.
Title: A Wild Variant Appears (AO3) Fandom: Thor (Movies), Loki (TV 2021) Rating: Teen And Up Pairing: Thor & Sylvie Wordcount: 1000-ish Additional Tags: this did not exist so it was necessary to invent it, PikaThor, Adopted Sibling Relationship, Humor, Pikachu is a Thor variant, (or is Thor a Pikachu variant?), Sylvie & Thor Sibling Feels, (RIP Sacred Timeline Loki), Crossovers & Fandom Fusions, Breaking the Fourth Wall, Crack Summary: “What makes you so sure that thing is a Thor variant?” he asked.

The Squad in their current form.
(you'll notice that Pengaz's type and ability are different from the introduction post. This is to make it more accurate to Pokemon Clover, the ROM Hack that it originated from. In spite of these corrections I kept the 'z' because SMG4.)
(also Ralts now has an Ability. Can't believe I forgot that.)

I think this was the first time I started to do multiple BB missions in the Terrarium. When it came to defeating Pokémon using auto battle, I think that was the type of mission I did the most. Moments like this are where certain Pokémon should come in handy.

I wonder if Galarian Slowpoke tails are tastier than regular Slowpoke tails...
