“…Maybe, yeah…maybe...in another life, perhaps,” the words were followed with a small shrug, a wince accompanying the action as the skipper looked at the ground.

Feeling your eyes starting to sting, you nodded at her words, your own escaping softly as you took a step back slowly, then another, slowly backing away before she could see you break.

“Yeah, maybe in another life…congrats again, I- I wish you two the best, I really do."

one thing that i cant stop thinking about is astarion's family. all of the other origin characters we are able to find out at least something about their childhood-- we get to meet wyll's father and shadowheart's parents, gale can talk about his mother, you can visit the grave of karlach's parents (and obviously lae'zel grew up in an egg so no parents for her), but we never hear anything about where astarion came from. he must've had someone who loved him once, enough to give him a coffin, a proper burial, and a nice gravestone in a cemetery. he was an elf, too, and since elves can live around 750 years in DND, there's an incredibly high chance that his parents are just... out there, somewhere, thinking that their son has been dead this whole time.

i get conflicting results on what the name "Astarion" even means, but most of the results seem to boil down to "Loyal/Faithful Son," "Shining/Sun-like Princeling," or "Little Star." It seems like such an affectionate name that a parent would give to a child whom they loved very, very much.

personally, i think he grew up in a middle-class family, not quite nobility, but also not poor, either. he became a magistrate to make his parents proud. he says he doesn't remember much of his time pre-cazador, so i like to think that his childhood was quiet, stable, and unassuming. after his death they likely left baldur's gate, and so after enduring 200 years of servitude and regaining freedom after the Elder Brain, he wouldn't even know where to begin looking for them, not to mention how likely ashamed he would be to return to them as a vampire, so much changed from the person he used to be.

Glasgow 2024 Worldcon to sit on their hands and wait this out.

Sad to report that the chair of Glasgow 2024 has refused to enact the incapacity clause against Chengdu 2023. The defence is that the clause uses the word "current Worldcon", and since the Hugo Administration hid what they had done till now they have run out the clock and evaded action. They decline to state if they think Chengdu 2023 satisfied it's obligations to the WSFS. They instead suggest the issue should be brought up at the next Business Meeting. (Reminder, WSFS Business meetings only occur at Worldcons, require physical presence at the meeting, prior written notification of business to be conducted with a second signing the motion, and the Meetings are strictly conducted under Robert's Rule of Order with the WSFS Presiding Officer having complete control of the floor, and anything that is more substantive than a non-binding resolution means doing it all over again in a year's time to get it ratified.)

I have asked the chair of Glasgow 2024 and the WSFS Presiding officer of 2024 to clarify on what date Chengdu 2023 stopped being the Current Worldcon, and where this is defined in the WSFS. However, the last reply from the chair included the phrase "This correspondence is therefore closed." and that does not indicate I will receive a reply.

My reading of this is that it doesn't. And we are currently in a hazy hinterland where the WSFS constitution has not clearly defined what "the current Worldcon" means. So if they chose, they could enact the Incapacity Clause.

I think the "Current Worldcon" reading used to prevent enacting of the incapacity clause is a terrible precedent. It basically says "Just hide your failures, run out the clock, then nothing can be done and your decisions will stand." And it renders the Incapacity Clause a dead letter, if the Current Worldcon insists it will be able to perform it's duties, but then does not do so.

There seems to just be a sense of dead hands on the controls.

Posting more of the boat stuff that I drew, as cursed as it may be. I need to get better at shading since some stuff like barely showed up.

The MV Suquamish is oddly cute compared to the other ferries in the fleet. I don't know why. He's been everywhere and I hope he gets a permanent route since being a relief boat means that he also gets dragged everywhere. I think his siblings, MV Samish and MV Chimacum, more or less have permanent routes but the oldest Olympic, MV Tokitae, seems to also be a relief boat more or less and is usually on the Mukilteo-Clinton route. As of today, MV Suquamish is currently on the Kingston-Edmonds route and is hanging out with MV Spokane, which is a huge ferry from the 1970s and probably has the best interior of the current fleet. Also have you seen her and her brother, the MV Walla Walla's original interiors? They did these boats so dirty with the current interiors. Sad thing is, they still have some of the coolest interiors at the moment in the fleet, even with the Wally's ad wall around his galley. WHY.

I hope I can draw more of them since I do like drawing gijinkas of them. I'm surprised that I didn't find any for the Washington ferries??? I know these boats are kinda mid with the green used in the livery isn't the prettiest and looks terrible when sunbleached. Apparently model makers don't really like them either. They used to have multiple colors, with a light blue on top of the green and orange on bottom that you can find in some older paintings and pictures of the boats. It really made a difference.
