The Work You Don’t See

Not all progress is visible. Not every step forward is loud, dramatic, or marked by a finished product. Sometimes, the most important work we do happens behind the scenes—where no one claps, no one comments, and no one even knows it’s happening but us.

This is the work you don’t see:

Untangling a thought you’ve been wrestling with for days

Sitting with grief without trying to rush through it

Choosing rest over productivity

Saying no when everything in your nervous system wants to say yes

Being honest with yourself, even when it’s uncomfortable

None of that is easy. But it counts.

We live in a culture that rewards output, visibility, and the appearance of having it all together. But the invisible work—the emotional labor, the boundary-setting, the inner shifts—that’s where resilience grows. That’s where real change starts.

So if this week has felt quiet, hard, slow, or foggy… You might be doing more work than you realize. And that work matters.

Keep going. Even if no one sees it yet. Especially then.

Happy Wednesday... I want to travel in time.. Back to April 20th, 12:00 NOON when the TITANIC, Queen of the Ocean is boarding to set sail on the seas... to America... New York... in the year of 1912. We've all seen the movie... Jack and Rose and their recount of the event and how it took place... We've all had our giggles about the fact that there was PLENTY of room on that dang suitcase for JACK to jump up there and perhaps survive.... ************** But, what do you think it would have been like? Your just stepping foot onto the boat. Would your ancestors have been in the estate section or in the lower parts? Would you have felt excited about the adventure or apprehensive about the lengthy trip to the unknown world? And do you think you would have been a survivor? ******************* I think back to what I know about my ancestors and I feel like we would have been in the lower-class with Jack. If I were among them... I feel like I would have been excited to travel on such a grand ship, although I am not sure how much grandeur I would actually see in my social class. I feel like it still would have been an amazing adventure. I think to one ancestor in particular and finding out she gave birth on one of the ships over to the U.S. from Romania... and how difficult that must have been.... what she must have been feeling, knowing her husband was already in the U.S. and she was aboard this ship with her three (3) other children... plus this newborn... How lucky she had to have been to have had a good natural birth without any complications. I wonder what the outcome might have been for her and her children... had their ship met a similar fate as that of the Titanic- would she have survived? Her children? Her newborn? Would I have survived, had I been there? I feel like I have a strong instinct.. but could I have held on in the bitterly cold waters? Then I think about surviving and what stories I might tell once I arrived in America... How would this trip impact my life? ************** Do you have any ancestors who were on the Titanic? As I reflect on this beautiful Wednesday and as I look in the mirror and stare back at myself I can't help but feel you looking at me. You gave me responsibility before I knew what responsibility was, you made me behave like a Queen at all times because I had you looking up to me before I had the constant eyes of my own lil sis looking up to me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This day last year a part of my light was snuffed out and I didn't know how to communicate it to others that all I could hear were your flip flops as a child and your squeaky voice..saying heeeeyyy Cuzin...who knew I would say I miss hearing that voice...BUT GOD! I knew it was time to feel that light within again when every text i received came through at 118, when the clock showed 118 everytime I glanced at it. It's #ToyasWay. I miss you and we as a family will live for you as you shine through us everyday. Ya'll love on your family while they're here. To Marvin, my love:

The greatest teacher of humility is pain.

I have not many words I would like to say to you. These days, God has been relaying various things on my mind. 

He told me to give up what I desired the most.

You have always been my desire. I would look back at the times where you told me that “I’ll be the one you’ll marrying in the future”, and it would bring great turmoil in my heart because you mentioned in our few last conversations “that I am unbearable to love”. 

and God also told me that love is not just about staying but also letting go.

It's painful, terribly painful, to understand what is going on. There would be times I feel that I am out of everyone’s grasp, where I am quietly slipping away from reality. However, pain brought me back to where I should be standing.

I love you and I’m not sure when/where this love will last. But I love you enough to let you go; let you be where God is leading you. I want to be excited for you, and learn to support your destined path (even when I am not included in that story). 

You might never get to read this. But I wanted you to know that I’ve always been proud of you and believed in you even when you cannot believe in yourself. But, I have to stop being your #1 fan.

When I see you at church or sometime in the future, I’ll pray a silent prayer to God; to let Him not turn the anguish of pain into anger. But I pray that the deep wounds in my heart be a foundation of another level where He is taking me. 

Because I am finally ready.

Last week's @etsyuk fair in Preston was buzzing. This weekend I'm looking forward to Saturday's Christmas Craft fair at @bankfieldmuseum, Halifax and Sunday's Totally Tropical Christmas at @theeggfactoryhb, at home here in Hebden Bridge. Sunday is my last fair this year, the most I've done for a number of years. I've loved it! So this week is all about making the orders that are coming in, making more for my last 2 shows and in house world I am also painting the whole ground floor to move back downstairs when my folks come and stay on Sunday. From where do you seek and find nature? Why?

Nature has been around since the beginning of all time, but our views of nature have changed through our existence. We can say that today we would do anything to find that little green piece of heaven. The ones that we refer to as nature. In urban areas, places like town parks, our private gardens and nearby hills are places that we like to call nature or pieces of nature. And all of them have been created because of the human need to be close to the nature. For me nature allows us to find some kind of freedom. And even though a lot of natural places are no longer places of wilderness, for me as a person who grow up in a place close to sea I can say that the wilderness and the power of the sea is what I refer as a wild and largely uncontrollable wild nature. But today there are not a lot of natural places where human activity has left no impact. So for me seasides not so close to the cities, hills and mountains that provide a peaceful environment and the possibility to see how nature balances its processes and harmonizes the positive and negative aspects of itself are places where I find nature. When I think of nature I think of outside with plants and trees, wild animals, birds and butterflies, the sun, stars and the moon. I think of waves, wind and rain and all the seas and the oceans, rivers, lakes and waterfalls. And at the end and the beginning of the day I'm thankful for all the sunrises and sunsets which nature provides us every day but never in the same light. All of these things and their diversity that changes with every meter and kilometer we pass through on our journeys and travels are why I seek to see the unseen sceneries nature provided all around the world. Even if that sceneries are created by the impact of humans and culture. Identity is not always provided just by nature. So all of these things make up my definition of nature and are the reasons to seek and find out what nature is.

So much of what we carry, process, and build isn’t visible from the outside. But just because it’s invisible doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. Reflection is part of the work. Rest is part of the work. Thinking, healing, trying again—that’s work too. You’re allowed to take time to notice that. To honor it. Midweek isn’t just a checkpoint. It’s a moment to breathe, soften, and recognize your own effort.
