"[D] ReLu instead of sigmoid in word2vec?"- Detail: I think forcing the outputs of the hidden layer to be positive would make the embedding dimensions match independent contexts. This way, the additive/subtractive qualities of word vectors become obvious: it's simply a matter of turning ensembles of surrounding words on and off.So why is sigmoid used? I guess that the contexts represented by embedding dimensions are not so independent at all, in which case we might want to add another hidden layer to learn their non-linear relations, e.g., XOR..
