I made this squid!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
8-foot giant squid pillow.
You’ll need:
2 yards of felt
1 yard of patterned fabric (I suggest a polka dot-type pattern so it looks like suction cups)
1 medium piece of black felt, 1 medium piece of white felt (for the eyes)
white thread, black thread and thread of the same color as the felt you’re using
pins
about 5 lbs. of stuffing
a couple big sheets of paper to draw your pattern
First, you need to draw out your patterns. Here’s a basic template to get you started, although most of the measurements are reasonably fudgeable. If in the likely event you don’t have any four-foot-long pieces of paper lying around, just tape a few pieces together.
Tumblr media
Once you’ve drawn out your eight patterns, it’s time to cut the fabric. Pin the pattern to the fabric, laid flat, and cut out the following, leaving a half an inch or so of extra fabric around the edge of the pattern:
FOR THE ARMS: 8 felt and 8 fabric cutouts of piece 1
FOR THE, UH, LONGER ARMS: 2 felt and 2 fabric cutouts of piece 2
FOR THE BODY: 2 felt cutouts of piece 3
FOR THE FIN: 4 felt cutouts of piece 4
FOR THE HEAD: 1 felt cutouts of piece 6
FOR THE EYES: 2 white felt cutouts of piece 7 and 2 black felt cutouts of piece 8
So now you’ve got all your pieces ready, it’s time to start sewing them together. I did mine by hand because my sewing machine is busted and I get a kind of Zen buzz from sewing by hand, but if you have a non-busted one I recommend that you use it as it will be MUCH EASIER. You’re going to be sewing everything with the nice side of the fabric facing in, then turning it inside out to stuff it.
THE ARMS: (To make a quilted pattern that looks like suckers, see this other post). Pin together one patterned fabric piece 1 and one felt piece 1 (with the nice sides facing the inside). Sew down around the U-shape and back up, leaving the top open. Then turn the arm inside out, stuff it (it’s easiest to do both of these things if you sort of scrunch it up like you’re trying to put on a pair of tights, excuse the non-dude-friendly reference) and sew the top closed. Do the same for the other seven arms and rejoice in the fact that this is the most tedious part. Same deal with the two long arms, they’re just harder to stuff.
THE FINS: Pin together two of your piece 4s and sew together the curvy outer edge. Turn the piece inside out, so the seam you just sewed is on the inside, and start sewing up the other side, stuffing gradually as you go along. You should end up with a triangle-ish puffy thing. Repeat for the other two piece 4s.
Tumblr media
THE BODY: Put down one piece 3, then place the two fins you have down with the point up and the curvy side pointing in, then make a sandwich by putting the other piece 3 down on top. Pin it all together and sew around the edges with the two fins still inside, as shown. Turn it inside out and move on to…
THE HEAD: So take piece 6 and the ten arms you’ve already done. Lay the arms, fabric side facing you, out with the arms’ top seams in a line half an inch from the top of piece 6. The order should be arm arm arm arm BIG ARM arm arm arm arm BIG ARM. The legs should be almost entirely covering piece 6. Pin them in place and sew a straight line through the individual legs seams to attach the legs to piece 6.
When you pick up the other side of piece 6, you now have something resembling a really weird untied hula skirt. Sew together the two 9-inch ends of piece 6 with the fabric side of the arms on the outside, and keep it inside out for the moment.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER: Fit the open end of the body through the arms (still fabric side facing out) and pull the edge all the way through the felt cylinder so it’s even with the edge that DOESN’T have arms attached to it. Sew around the diameters of the head cylinder and the body cylinder to attach them, then pull the legs down over the head and you’re almost done!
Stuff the body, then seal it off by sewing piece 5 over the open end (even if you do have a functional sewing machine, you’ll probably have to do this part by hand).
THE EYES: Sew the black circles on the white circles and whipstitch the eyes onto the head. You do this last because you can’t tell where they’re going to end up on the end product if you put them on before stuffing the body.

Wolverine!Tojialternative ending
A fire glows bright at your feet, burning off the moisture soaking in your socks. It keeps you company in the dead of night, whilst you sit under a tree, leaning against the rough bark, and listening to the rustling of leaves. You’d been taught how to half-sleep, how to conserve energy and to let your body rest as you remain geared up for a fight at any time. Still, you can’t seem to do anything but watch the fire, entranced in its dance.
There was once a time where you and that fire had been mirror images of one another, one soul split into two, and yet you can’t quite remember what life was like back then, before the long journey on a never ending road, before the disgust of men who know no better, and before him.
Can only remember the electric hum of a fan in the corner of a dingy bar, the settling of dust on the counter, and the way you held your breath as he drunkenly revealed some part of his past.
One upon a time, you worshipped every second of every time he met your eyes sober. Saw your relationship as the golden standard for companionship without expectations, a friendship forming against all odds, love growing in the shadow of hate.
Still, despite how it all ended, you knew your history with him will forever be defined by all the things said in the dark, when no one else could listen.
That’s why you aren’t very surprised to find his familiar shadow approaching through the tree line .
“You shouldn’t be here.”
Wolverine!Toji huffs. “That's my line.”
With the fire casting shadows on his face, you can only see the scruff on his jaw in glimpses. A day or two ago, you would have been ecstatic to see him, would have jumped in his arms and given him hell for doing all of this in the first place, now, however, you’re just exhausted.
It pains you to admit, but a part of you had gotten used to the amenities back at Xavier’s school; peeing in the bushes with a squirrel watching does something to a person. Maybe, also, you’re realising that surviving out in the wilderness without a certain expert isn’t easy. You haven’t been able to catch a single fish or rabbit, forced to nibble instead on berries you can’t sniff and discern as poisonous or non-poisonous. Life out here without him has been one huge gamble after the other.
When that scarred lip of his stretches into a grin, you wonder if he knows. Clearing your throat, you ask, “So, what are you doing here?”
He drops himself beside you, leaves crunching under his weight. Not a single ounce of shock or discomfort vibrates in your body at the sudden closeness, at the shameless return, nor at the sweet nudge of an elbow against yours. “Was wondering that myself. Guess I just didn’t think you should be left alone.”
“Why? ‘Cause I’m a kid?” You retort, defensively.
Wolverine!Toji rarely called you by your name, only ever ‘kid’ or ‘bub,’ as he did with everyone else. A long time ago, it used to fill you with warmth; it meant he accepted you, that he considered you family, and not an enemy. Now, it’s just a reminder that he doesn’t see you the way he sees her.
You’re simply the ‘kid’ that joined him once and never left.
“‘Cause I made a promise.” A strange melancholy smoothens his voice. He too watches your flames dance brighter and bigger. Perhaps, just as entranced and perhaps out of reflex; this is like many of the nights he’d spent with you, it’s routine, it’s habit, it’s…home. “Can’t just break my word, can I? Not like a certain someone, leaving without even giving this old man some warning. That’s rough, bubs. Damn near broke my heart.”
Sighing, you lean your head against his shoulder. He doesn’t move. Those broad shoulders that seem to carry the world’s weight upon them carry you now and you don’t want to leave. You never expected an apology – that’s not his thing – the man beside you speaks through actions. Leaving the safe and comfortable confines of the school to be here, with you, instead of anyone else is his way of making things right.
And it’s enough.
Even if he never returns your feelings, it’s enough.
“I didn’t want to take you away. I’m sorry.”
Wolverine!Toji makes a noise of amusement, eyes closing now as he makes himself real comfortable on the grass. “Yeah, you did. Don’t worry about it though. Was getting bored without you anyway. Just worry yourself with one thing.”
You look up at him.
Centuries of lives lived and mourned swirl in those all-seeing eyes, weighed down by metal but carried through by flesh and beating heart, which feels more than it lets on. He could go anywhere, be anyone, and do anything, yet he stares back down at you, seeing the embers in your soul and finding that it reflects his own.
Though he doesn’t dare speak it, you know he’s right where he wants to be. So you don’t argue, don’t fight, and instead, you ask, “What?”
An eye cracks open to look down at you, twinkling with mischief.
“Where we’re going next.”

"Why do you ALWAYS tell workers to have a good day when you exit an establishment?"
Because its a nice thing.
To do.
A friend and I travelled across states two weeks ago for a con and we had to stop through a truck stop.
The truck stop was a 40 minute drive from the main interstate, it was a detour.
We were going to run out of gas.
I got a soda and some snacks. A lady at the slush stand complimented my dress- told me I looked pretty.
Thanked her, of course.
We were on opposite ends of the truck stop for this interaction. The words from both of us were barely audible to eachother.
They didn't need to be.
Asked the cashier how her day was going. She rolled her eyes, huffed. Set up the pin pad for the transaction.
You know how often she hears "how's your day going?" And it's just small-talk? She was annoyed by my speaking when I walked up.
I went quiet for the rest of it. I sped up.
I don't blame her.
She works one of the hardest jobs, in one of the most desolate, depressing places in the US. It's a hellish drive- everyone I've ever had come through it in my friend group has sent complaints my way.
There's nothing for dozens of miles in either direction.
The nearest city is an hour and thirty minutes away.
Told her I hope her day is good. I meant it.
I watched her realize I meant it. I watched her smile about it as I left.
Watched light literally re-enter her eyes.
That's why I do it.
It's not hard to want other people to have a good day. To be polite. To compliment an outfit- to say thank you. It's the most basic of social interaction.
Everyone I go out with in my life acts like I'm imposing myself by holding the most basic respect for space in my thoughts for the people who just made my food, scanned my groceries, helped me find the art supplies I was looking for.
The cashier at the grocery store had beautiful hair. It was bleached, dyed, and braided into this extraordinary array of natural hair colors, a defiance of the rules of the corporate she worked for (I worked for the same company for a matter of months) and I really couldn't take my eyes away.
The people who make my drinks because though they've memorized my order- they've memorized it. They even know when to expect me by. They watch me draw, indulge my yapping about things they have no interest in.
The driver who drove me home today was the one who'd done it weeks ago and, despite only driving me there once, he remembered me, we talked about the construction in the area. I didn't really want to talk, but by the way he thanked me as I left- I'm certain he did.
To say that they aren't owed kindness, to say that this was all transactional.
That's an incredible disservice.
"you don't owe anyone anything" You are a tar pit. Speak for yourself. I personally owe the cafe employees my dishes put away and my friends a listening ear and small scared insects a cup and a gentle trip outside. Hyperindividualism is a rancid infection borne of capitalism and willfully misinterpreted therapyspeak and I will defy it by continuing to be kind regardless of whether or not it benefits me personally

I imagine Hefty initially started listening to Brainy about their theories as a joke. (Similar to how mean girls will sit and talk with the autistic kid and that’s somehow funny.) But then, of course, he catches feelings, or at the very least starts to enjoy being with them and helping with different experiments. Then BOOM, miscommunication trope.

I just came so hard thinking of pussy sliding and/or “dry” humping with Robby through our undies and I fear you are to blame. It’s so hot I can’t stand it. I’m thinking about it 24/7. Like he could put it in, it’s right there, but he can’t and that’s so much hotter. Your ficlet about this has ruined me. Living rent free in my brain. I kind of like him being pushy and begging for it even though he knows he can’t have it. OH MY GOD. The thoughts consume me.
(Side note: ‘Ficlet’ kept autocorrecting to ‘docket’ and I like the idea of a court case arguing for pussy jobs with Robby)
Ok well this fucking settles it, sweet Nonna.
I will be writing a prequel to WHOOPS.
It’s been fucking swirling. And I have a couple days off next week and I wanna dedicate some serious HOURS to getting some of these ideas out of my head.
This kink also lives rent free in my head…it’s so fucking naughty…like…ugh. He could take it…but he won’t…it’s right thereeeee….but so far.
Also…why is it so hot to know someone came to my story? Is that what porn stars feel like? I’m PREENING.

Inside she gets him cleaned up and bundled in a warm blanket
(Sup; me again)
He took a deep breath.
“Okay, how can I help?” A dragon-esque symbol on the clasp of his cloak glowed pink with his question.
"...what do you know about elemental cores?" He gives a sharp look folding his arms. Eyes squinted and flickering briefly to the glow from the clasp.
"Also...What's with the sudden change in attitude?" Bv is still present seeming calm. " Plus it's not like Violet is gone. He's more just...resting. "
