In case you think the writers on strike aren't making good use of their time, think no more!

i genuinely dont care if the creation of all media comes to a screeching halt btw i will very gladly live with no new movies no new tv shows no new anything for years if that's what it takes for the people who create them to be treated like human beings. i hope every other facet of the entertainment industry goes on strike too and i hope all the ones that havent unionised yet will. i want media creation to become completely impossible and i want the people who could make it possible again to hold out until they get every single thing they want. btw

I spoke to my dad who's been on strike a few hours ago, and he said this is absolutely true. The studios were still hoping they could starve out the writers, and didn't expect the general public to be so strongly on the union's side still 5 months in.
He's lived through four WGA strikes, and he says the energy and solidarity he's seen both inside and outside the union has been far beyond what has ever been present before. The internet ate Drew Barrymore alive for scabbing, and within days the studios were back at the negotiating table giving in to almost every demand.
Thanks guys. This really was a team effort ❤️❤️ #eatthefuckingrich

I hope this is true. Because it would just be so in line with deciding to be so cartoonishly evil in public right before SAG was set to go on strike as well. A union that really has the power to shut down the whole industry and make them lose astronomical amounts of money per day.
All that Deadline article probably did was make SAG more emboldened to get everything they're asking for and not extend the deadline again.

In the wake of the dual strike I would like to remind everyone that "hollywood elites" is an antisemitic dogwhistle and if you are referring to company executives call them executives

listen. all im saying is it would be iconic as fuck if the writers on strike wrote insane amounts of horrendously smutty omegaverse fan fiction so when the studios try to AI scrape they'll be fucked over into next year

It’s the 11th hour and while the studios were able to negotiate with the directors guild, barring a last minute breakthrough it appears that the actors will be joining the writers on the picket lines. Their striking would also have the interesting side effect of completely ruining San Diego Comic Con.
Many of the WGA reps have said anonymously that they believe they need one of the other major unions to strike to force the studios back to the bargaining table. This would definitely be a major blow to the studios if this happens.

A reminder with the recent headlines connected to the wga strike
DO NOT BOYCOTT UNLESS THE WGA OFFICIALLY CALLS FOR ONE!
I understand you're mad. I understand you're frustrated. I get it! But starting an unofficial boycott will do absolutely nothing to help the WGA and indeed could very well harm efforts, both by cutting the (already limited) residuals the writers are being paid, by potentially creating another excuse for the executives to not negotiate, and if the WGA does call for an official boycott a bunch of people already boycotting will lower the numbers in the official boycott. If there's gonna be a boycott it needs to be very well organized to do any good.
If you wanna help, listen to what the WGA itself says you can do to help. A big one is if you have the money, a big one is donating to the Entertainment Community Fund, to help ensure the striking writers don't go broke. This is gonna be especially big since it's seriously looking like SAG-AFTRA is gonna strike after all.
As I said, if the WGA believes a boycott is necessary and will help their goals they will announce it through official channels. Until the WGA calls for a boycott, DO NOT BOYCOTT. Thank you have a good day.

After 146 days, the Writer's Strike has ended with a resounding success. Throughout constant attempts by the studios to threaten, gaslight, and otherwise divide the WGA, union members stood strong and kept fast in their demands. The result is a historic win guaranteeing not only pay increases and residual guarantees, but some of the first serious restrictions on the use of AI in a major industry.
This win is going to have a ripple effect not only throughout Hollywood but in all industries threatened by AI and wage reduction. Studio executives tried to insist that job replacement through AI is inevitable and wage increases for staff members is not financially viable. By refusing to give in for almost five long months, the writer's showed all of the US and frankly the world that that isn't true.
Organizing works. Unions work. Collective bargaining how we bring about a better future for ourselves and the next generation, and the WGA proved that today. Congratulations, Writer's Guild of America. #WGAstrong!!!

You know, when this whole AI art, deepfakes and other shit began, I was scared that the responsibility of convincing people that it can and will be used unethically would fall on the shoulders of small artists who would not be taken seriously. I expected change in the art world to be a slow, creeping transition into inevitable demise.
What I did not expect was hollywood studio execs doing that job for us by being so cartoonishly evil, impatient and releasing statements like "We're gonna starve you until you agree to work with us lol" and "We're gonna take your likeness and use it forever. You will be paid with jack and shit."
I also did not expect AI bros doing the same job for us by harassing a voice actor off of twitter.
