Was Qubo actually coming back?
So I heard a rumor that's been going around that The Qubo Channel, an American children's tv channel that ran from 2007-2021, was coming back in 2023 and this idiot fan did everything they could to make it seem real, videos and everything but it all turned out to be fake. They said that the company E Scripps announced it but they never did and this random person made an entire wiki page of it too. Qubo is officially never coming back, although I hope someone will have a solution or come up with a replacement kids channel. It's sad that kids have nothing that genuinely teaches them good lessons, besides Bluey. Don't get me wrong, I love Bluey, Bluey's awesome but it's like the only thing that kids can watch nowadays that's good for them. In my opinion, you need MORE THAN ONE SHOW! You don't have to have as many shows as I did growing up, but you can't only just have one show either.
I'll admit I was more of a tv kid, but I grew up in a small, dumpy town in Pennsylvania and I had no siblings or kids in the neighborhood to play with. I also never really had close friends at school who I got to hang out with outside of school, because school days lasted long and we were private people. When I got home, I'd most likely draw, watch tv, or take a nap. I did spend time outside but not in the autumn and winter as much because I hated cold, especially when I got older. I did watch a lot more tv than most kids did but it wasn't an unhealthy amount. I also wasn't really a Disney movie kid as much either. Disney channel? Yes, but I didn't really watch much of their animated movies growing up, especially not the older ones that everyone else grew up with. I had older parents and also was raised by my grandma, and no siblings so it's not like we had family movies nights like some families. Being an only child, I was basically the boss of the tv and my mom grew up playing outside and not much of a tv kid, so she just let me watch the kids shows that were playing on tv. Just to clear things up, I was born in November of 2002 and my mom gave birth to me when she was 42 years old, so a lot of stuff from her time wasn't really meant for kids. So yeah, I mostly just grew up watching tv channels. I was lucky enough to have Qubo, Sprout and the Nickelodeon and Disney channels. Lucky for me, I didn't watch much Cartoon Network, which in my opinion was kind of a good thing because a lot of stuff back then was inappropriate. Thank God I had more relaxing and... less unhinged shows to watch on channels like Sprout and Qubo. I know Qubo had its fair share of weird shows like Grossology and Being Ian, but most of the Qubo shows were good. In fact, some of my favorite shows ever came from Qubo!
Let's have a little talk about a well known Canadian show that was based off a book series, called "Scaredy Squirrel". If you were in Canada, you probably watched Scaredy Squirrel on YTV or Treehouse, but us Americans watched it on Cartoon Network, Disney X.D or Qubo. I was the kid who watched it on Qubo because I ignored the Cartoon Network channel growing up and I think around 2013 was when I started to hate Disney so... yeah. I became a fan of Scaredy Squirrel through Qubo and that show means so much to me. Another show that means a lot to me is called "Marvin the tap-dancing Horse" which originally aired on PBS kids for like 2 years, as part of a block called the "Bookworm bunch" which only lasted a short time and plus, I wasn't even born yet. I got introduced to Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse through the Qubo Channel and I absolutely fell in love with it. Honestly, those are both very underrated shows and deserve an actual FANDOM rather than 3 fans. A few people I know have at least heard of Scaredy Squirrel barely anyone has heard of Marvin the dancing horse (and yes, Marvin is based off a book too). I highly recommend those shows, as well as many others!
Cable tv is kind of shutting down now anyway, and it's sad. All we have now is streaming services and a lot of them just don't have those nice kids shows that Qubo had. A lot of those shows were cute and not too overstimulating for the younger kids, and almost everything they have now is for older kids. Sprout became Universal Kids, which is more for older kids and they didn't need to do that. We need more things for little kids too. Also, as a 21 year old with trauma, I don't like rough adult shows like South park and Hazbin hotel, I want more calming shows like Scaredy Squirrel and Toddworld. (Also, I'll put a list of my favorite shows from Qubo in my last paragraph).
I hope one day I can make my own tv channel or streaming service to replace Qubo or Sprout, but nothing can really "replace" my favorite channels growing up. Also, if you want some relaxing kids shows from Qubo to watch, I'll give you some;
Scaredy Squirrel, Toddworld, Stella & Sam, Timothy goes to school, Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse, Maggie & the Ferocious Beast, Harry & his Bucket of Dinosaurs, Miss Spider Sunny Patch, Babar, Veggietales, Gofrette, I Spy, My Friend Rabbit, Sandra the Fairytale Detective, Willa's Wild Life, Pecola, Turbo Dogs, Sidekick, and Stickin' Around (although there's a trigger warning).
Tell me what you think and if you agree! Are you too a Qubo or Sprout fan?

ICEY
Developer: Fantablade Network Publisher: X.D. Network Inc Rrp: £8.99 (Steam) Released: 17th November 2016 Available on: Steam Played Using: An Xbox 360 Control Pad Approximate game length: 5 Hours Do you always do as your told? I think most everyone will say no to that particular question. That's the thing about life you don't always have to do what others say... or ever even. Of course there are often ramifications for not doing as told but that's part of being free. Video game characters don't get that choice though, they always do as they're told (at least usually if the game has been programmed correctly) and usually a player will follow the games instruction without giving it a thought because years of playing has taught us that its pointless to do otherwise. ICEY is a 2D action game, at least on the face of it it is. However, play this game for more than five minutes you'll start to see that there's more to this game than first appears. You control the character Icey, an android (I think) was created with the sole purpose of defeating Judas.
youtube
The 'basic' story in this game is... well, it's not great. I think simplistic might be the best word for it. It's a 'you are the chosen one' story complete with antagonist with a biblical name AND is messing around with Lovecraft-ian horrors. The good thing is this isn't the only story, you can disobey the narrators instructions, go exploring and in doing so you can find out... a different story or rather, stories. These other stories are far more interesting than the basic one. I won't go into detail on the particulars of them but one is about the developer of the game and his struggle to complete it. I had a lot of fun trying to find out how to access those stories as they can be quite hidden. Since it is an action game one would hope that the combat is up to snuff, I'm thankful to say that it is with the combat being responsive and having a natural flow to it. It can start to feel a bit repetitive when it starts to throw numerous enemies at you. This is in part due to the small pool of enemies that the game has to pull from (nine or ten types from what I remember, without including bosses) but also from the move sets that the player has access to. In the beginning of the game you have a heavy attack and a light attack, chaining these attacks grants a combo which causes further damage to your enemies. Dead enemies give ICEY cash which is used to unlock new moves and upgrade existing ones, the thing is there are a total of sixteen moves in the game, eight of which you already have unlocked at the first level when you start the game.
Tumblr media
Choosing the game difficulty is handled in a rather... unique way. You'll play through a tutorial, at the end you get to choose the difficulty of the game by answering a series of questions. However that's the only time you’ll get to make that choice, unless you discover the hidden way of doing it. Yes, that's right, even selecting the games difficulty is secret. ICEY is a bit of a difficult one for me, I liked it but I also bought it in a sale a while back so I can't honestly say that it would be great value for money. The whole game can be run through in about five hours or so and doesn't really have much in the way of replayabilty in it. Thing is, I really enjoyed this game and £8.99 doesn't feel too bad for what I got. Take from that what you will. If this appeals to you perhaps try; Pony Island Shantae ½ Genie Hero The Fall

Muse Dash
Developer: PeroPero Games Publisher: X.D Network Inc Rrp: £2.99 (Steam) Released: 20th June 2019 Available on: Steam Played Using: Xbox 360 Control Pad Approximate game length: 5 Hours ish I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but just in case I somehow haven't; I am not good at rhythm games. That being said I almost always have a good time playing them, I just can't hold the timing for some reason. It has to be said that Muse Dash has an interesting control scheme for the control pad because it essentially makes most of the controller pointless. In this game the entirety of the left side of the control pad is for upper attacks and the right is for lower attacks (with exception the right trigger). The character on screen runs of her own accord and its up to you to decide when to do a high or low attack.
youtube
As your character runs enemies will come toward that you will need to defeat. If they pass you by, well, nothing really happens other than losing your combo bonus but if they hit you they'll take some of your life. If you hit zero life your character will faint and you'll have to start the song all over again. Defeating the enemies builds up your fever meter and if you time it correctly and get a 'perfect' attack the meter will fill up more than a standard hit. Once the fever meter is full it will flash to let you know you can activate 'Fever mode'. This is done by pressing the right trigger and will increase the point values of the enemies you defeat for the short time that it's active. Now I keep referring to the character on screen as exactly that rather than give it a name, well there is a reason for that. There are actually three characters you can play as, you start with Rin (the blonde haired girl with a guitar) and as you play you unlock Buro and Marija. Each of these characters have their own passive abilities as well as set of skins to unlock as you level up that also have passive abilities.
youtube
Levelling up unlocks new songs but also gives the collectable items which are used to unlock other characters skins as well as helpers that are called Elfins. These Elfins grant extra passive bonuses, such as taking less damage. You can complete songs in three modes easy, hard and master (although all three of those aren't always available). These will increase the number of enemies that appear as well as the variety. Each song also has a challenge you can complete, completing these challenges gives more experience. The challenges also change with the level of difficulty. It should be noted that the challenges listed with the songs aren't the only ones that can be completed, there are also global challenges, that apply to all songs.
Tumblr media
I can't not say this about this game, the animators of the character models in the character select screen have paid... special attention to some aspects of the models. Breasts sway, asses bounce and panties get flashed. Fan service is all well and good but its just strange that for the most part of the game you won't actually see any of this animation, it just feels a bit needless. Overall not a bad little game but if I do have to level one criticism at it then it would be the DLC's to get all the DLC's for this game you'd have to spend £25.99 that's eight times more than the game itself! If this appeals to you perhaps try; A City Sleeps Symphony Thumper
