I haven't seen anyone do Mastermind Shuichi with Saimatsu... And I wanted to see it.

How I think this would work:

Obviously, chapter 1 would follow its regular narrative with Shuichi and Kaede being a cute little team, and Rantaro and Tsumugi would end up as the Victim and Blackened. During the investigation, Shuichi would 'find' the hidden girls' bathroom door, and since Tsumugi went to the bathroom she's outed.

"You traitor! You said we'd fra-" Tsumugi's last words revealed the existence of a second Mastermind.

Of course, everyone is shaken. But at least there are two people everyone trusts: Kaede and Shuichi, who revealed the Mastermind.

No one believes their leader or the detective that assists her could ever be behind what's happening.

The rest of the game follows canon to a point, but with Kaede as the Protag and Shuichi acting as the love interest/Helpful person (ie: Chiaki, Kirigiri, Maki/Kaito). Kaito still pulls Shuichi and Maki into nighttime training but Kaede also joins for moral support.

After chapter 2 Kaede, Shuichi, Kaito, and Maki are practically inseparable. In your free time, you wouldn't find one far from the others.

Kokichi still acts as a rival but he keeps telling Kaede she's stupid for trusting anyone in this game.

Kirumi still kills Ryoma. Kiyo still kills Angie and Tenko. Gonta still gets manipulated by Kokichi into killing Miu. And Kokichi and Kaito still team up in chapter 5.

Kaito ends up having the fight with Kaede instead in chapters 4 and 5. She WANT'S to trust everyone but even Shuichi, her most trusted confidant tells her she can't trust just anyone. Sure he says her inner circle is trustworthy but everyone outside of their quartet could be the second mastermind.

Kaito killing Kokichi throws off all of Shuichi's plans.

He had always planned on betraying Tsumugi to get the ending he wanted. She was going to be the Mastermind his Protagonist defeated.

He didn't know how he was going to swing it but he was going to get Himiko, Kokichi, and Kiibo to kill each other.

Then he'd have his survivors: Kaede, Himself, Kaito, and Maki.

But with Kaito's death and Maki pulling Kaede away to talk plans to out the Mastermind he decides he needs to pull off what no other Mastermind pulls off: Despair needs to win.

Because every season the Danganronpa team tells the Mastermind if they manage to do what no other Mastermind has done, beat Hope, they can take any participant with them out of the game as a Prize of sorts. Of course, these Participants are selected beforehand so that their characters can be written to survive easier, but no one's pulled it off.

Somehow in chapter 6, Shuichi manages to convince Maki, Himiko, and Kaede that the Mastermind is Kiibo. That they have to vote for him so Hope can win.

And when they do they watch Kiibo get executed, and start a minor celebration.

"We did it! We can go home!" Kaede pulls Maki and Himiko into a group hug. Tears run down their faces as relief washes over them. Shuichi slowly walks over to them.

Maki manages to dodge the first cuff that comes after her, but Himiko isn't as lucky. Kaede clings to Maki as she watches Himiko get pulled back toward an execution room.

"Wha-" Before Kaede can even finish asking her question Himiko's execution. "What's going on? We won! You said we could go home if we voted the Mastermind out!"

"Upupupupu~ But you didn't." Monokuma's voice mocks. "However executing you one at a time gives you more despair." Shuichi grabs Kaede pulling her away from Maki.

"Maki-roll?" Kaede stares at her best friend. It takes Maki a second to realize what the other girl is thinking.

"No! Kaede it's not me!" Her mind races for any sort of Proof. "Remember what happened to Kaito? If I was the Mastermind you think I'd let someone I love die like that? We promised to make it out together for him!" Suddenly her eyes grow dark and train of Shuichi. "You!" Shuichi quickly dodges dragging Kaede with him.

"It's funny." He finally speaks up. There's little emotion behind his voice. "The plan was for the four of us to leave together... But Kaito had to ruin that." Maki is filled with rage now she lunges at Shuichi only to be caught by the cuff leading to her execution.

Kaede's hand reaches out to try and save her friend. But she's powerless as she falls to the floor.

She sits there for what seems like forever waiting for her execution to begin. Eventually, she hears applause from Monokuma.

"I didn't think you'd actually be able to do it!" Monokuma congratulates. "The team was very impressed." That's when Monokuma reveals the trust to Kaede.

None of this was real. She and all her friends were fabricated people mostly following a script.

"I meant what I said to Maki, you know?" Shuichi knelt to her level. "The original script was for the four of us to defeat Tsumugi. You and Kaito were supposed to lead Maki and me out through the doors into a new world. But Kaito just had to go along with Kokichi's plans and ruin that ending." Tears streamed down her face. "So I was left with one last option. I had to destroy hope and claim my prize as the Ultimate Mastermind."

"How could you?! We were your friends!" Kaede screamed. She was only met with Shuichi's crazed laughter. Soon it ended with a dreamy sigh.

"Wow. They may have botched Kaito's writing a bit, but they did amazing with you, Sweetheart!" He smiled. "I'm so happy though, I get to have a symbol of Hope all to myself!" He pulled her into the standing position and she started wailing. "It's alright, Sweetheart, just give all that delicious despair to me~"

Shuichi Saihara loved you so much it hurt.

Shuichi loved you so, so much. It was so painful, so overwhelming.

Shuichi is a yandere that is mainly clingy and manipulative, depending on the situation.

Based on the way he acts throughout V3, it’s clear that he is terrified of losing people he cares about after Kaede is (wrongfully) executed.

He doesn’t want anyone else to die and does his best to keep people united and safe, and after seeing just how horrified you are by the situation, he is further motivated.

How can he deny your teary-eyed request to keep watch outside your door the night after the first trial? You’re so scared you’ll be next.

It takes next to no time at all until Shuichi is dependent on being near you, even after you have calmed down.

Because then, a magic trick goes wrong, and another body is found, springing you metaphorically right back into his safe arms.

Every time a student dies, Shuichi is taking that opportunity to slowly feed your mind with manipulative ideas.

”They will definitely try to go after someone so frail and weak as you next.”

”Imagine if I wasn’t here to keep you safe. You would definitely be gone already.”

”Just stay with me and I promise I will keep you safe.”

Who could have thought that the meek softspoken Shuichi would now be glued to your side, glaring at anyone coming near?

That notes with detailed threats of how they would be brutally ripped to pieces if he saw them anywhere near you would be slid under their doors.

And perhaps most scary of all, how you didn’t seem to notice the change in his behavior at all.

Shuichi loves this. How neatly and methodically he ”helped” you get attached to him.

How you look up at him with those bright eyes filled with gratitude.

How you wrap your arms around him, holding him close.

Oh, he loves it.

It’s perfect — until it’s not.

Until one of the students decides to ignore his not-veiled-at-all threats.

And suddenly, you’re sitting next to them while eating.

Walking through the schoolyard with them.

Not calling Shuichi over to help you feel safe the next time a student passes.

And he snaps.

It’s a shame that the look of gratitude in your eyes needs to change to one of fear.

In my opinion, these two wouldn't actually harm their darling (well in Rantaro's case, not in a cruel way), no no no. They wouldn't dream of it, but you know, somehow you've got to learn in order for this mistake to not repeat itself.

No matter what you did to earn this punishment, Rantaro will always sit you down, facing him with no way of turning away. He wants you to look him in the eyes while he scolds you about your behavior/actions. This man will not bring harm to you physically, but he can certainly guilt trip you to oblivion.

He will make sure you apologize on your own accord by making you feel bad for what you've done. Let's say you attempted an escape: Rantaro is calm as he expresses how grateful he is that you're okay and that your safety is a priority. He wouldn't know what to do with himself if something happened. You could've gotten hurt, you know. The world is such a dark, unforgiving place and you should be happy Rantaro has taken the time to protect you from such darkness. You will be sitting in 'your room' to think about what you've done as he checks up on you once in a while.

You'd feel like a child as he chides on about what you've done if the punishment concerns your behavior. Being a brat? Oh well, I guess he has to treat you as such and bring down even more guilt inducing comments (along with other methods...). You're being a bit ungrateful aren't you? But that's okay, Rantaro still loves you and the two you can get past this phase. Neglecting your health to spite him? Now, that's just dumb. Please don't do this to yourself. He knows you're smarter than this.

Again, it doesn't matter what happened, it will end the same. You'll still be scolded and guilt tripped until an apology leaves your lips. Then everything will be right as rain. Honestly the worst you'd get is isolation time in a room or a slap on the wrist. Privileges lost is also something Rantaro would do to make you understand that your actions/behavior have consequences and the only way to get them back is through bettering that. Overall, Rantaro is not cruel, just concerned.

Again, this depends on what you've done, but he still wouldn't hurt you. Being the source of your pain is something Shuichi never wants; he'd cry at the thought of your burning hatred staring at him. So, he comes up with something else to deal with the situation.

If you tried to escape, which breaks Shuichi's heart, he's going to question you. Of course those questions would be focused on the why in all this. Basically, your escape attempt has only made him stick closer to you, even if you don't see him at times. Shuichi is now going to be a very prominent figure in your daily schedule so good luck trying that stunt again. Complaints to this are only met with a hard stare and a "It's for your own good" which is a statement you'll soon grow to be familiar with. In his mind, you need to at least learn and if you don't... Then you won't stop.

Every time he punishes you, Shuichi never makes eye contact. He knows you're going to sneer and glare at him, but refuses to face it. That would only show a weakness that you could use against him (which is likely) and shift the guilt to his end. No, he can't have that. It'll only make the whole situation more strenuous than it already is. Maybe he will look you in the eyes afterwards, but it's obvious that there's pain written in his face.

On the matter of your behavior/responses towards him deteriorating, again, Shuichi will ask you why you're acting like this. Maybe he can rearrange some things to fix everything. Just let him know and stop hurting him like this. No, he won't leave you alone... You should already be aware of that by now. The only reason Shuichi would get stern with you (tone low and voice laced with disappointment as he means business) is if you push him too much. He is a calm and collected figure yeah, but we all know he has a breaking point. Shuichi can become a mess and when that happens, there's no such thing as private/alone time or letting things slide. He will voice out his frustrations with you followed with an apology once he's done. This man will absolutely not hurt you when he talks because he deems communication to be a better way to show you he means business.

Maybe escaping from Shuichi was pointless because it always ended in the same way... Getting found and being punished. They used to be pretty light like your first just being getting put back in the basement and Shuichi saying things like

"I thought you loved me..."

Around your 5th attempt they got a lot more physical.... You think he snapped about here he literally had enough. You thought it was gonna be the same get locked in the basement for a while before Shuichi can't take that dejected look on your face anymore get brought back up escape and repeat. You were quite wrong.... I mean yes you were thrown in the basement again but your restraints were way tighter than all the other times and Shuchi came up to you with a knife??? "Remember Y/N this is all your fault if you didn't escape this wouldn't have happened... So just close your eyes. It’ll hurt less, that way.” You then shut your eyes but the pain was still very real you can't remeber what happened after that your best guess is that you fainted from blood loss..

But don't worry Shuichi is only doing this so you learn the faster the better for both of you!

Of course, Here are some Headcanons!

Shuichi isn't revealed as yandere until AFTER the game, especially if you beleive Team Danganronpa was real and the games were games in this universe.

If this is in the DR Universe then he's a very under the radar yandere in high school but the killing game pushes him over the edge. His only goal is to protect him and Kaede (kait and maki living would be a bonus) and escape. If givin the oppertunity to murder, tae kaede and run, he'd take it.

he's VERY subtle in his manipulation, his goal is to make sure everything feels like KAEDE's Idea.

If Kaede's a kuzuryu Shuichi's less protective but just as possessive and jealous. He knows she can take care of herself but doesn't mean he likes the idea of sharing her.

He'd be MOST jealous of Natsumi, because he thinks that they must have a special connection as twins.

Clef (Bunny or Human) never warms up to yandere Shuichi like she does canon Shuichi.

Shuichi tries SUPER hard to win over Kaede's family. It usually doesnt work since they can just SENSE somethings off about him, the only people he wins over once they realize hes a yandere is actually her parents.

Shuichi would never FORCE Kaede to have his kids. He'd LIKE a family with her and would adopt kids to raise with her, but never force himself on her. He'd be a bit put off at having to share Kaede with kids, but loves the idea of a physical manifestation of their 'love' be it biological or adopted.

Kaede thinks his yandere-ness is just him being clingy and protective at first, but once its revealed or he actually hurts someone (five bucks says its Kokichi) she gets put off by him an tries to break things off.

This would never end well and would likely result in her abduction.

had been in love with you for the longest time. So much so that it felt like hell not being around you even for a few hours.

When he wasn't following you around the school hallways or watching you take notes in class, he was thinking about how beautifully you wore your school uniform.

Or how your kind and friendly personality always made him feel better about himself.

Or how your soft, (s/c) skin glistened against the dim rays of the afternoon sun. The way your beautiful (e/c) eyes complimented your every feature.

You were so beautiful to him you were practically glowing.

Even as he watched you change your clothes from your bedroom window.

This wasn't anything new or surprising, in fact, Shuichi Saihara, or just Kagehara, does this everyday after school.

But, today was different. Today, he overheard you and a few of your friends talking about going out somewhere.

Despite everything that had been mentioned up to this point, Shuichi has been too afraid to even speak to you for the longest time.

The fear of rejection deeply disturbs his soul, so he's never told you about how his feelings... or if he even wanted to be friends.

He may know every little thing about you, but you still cannot even remember his first name.

The dark-blue haired teenager awkwardly put his left hand in his pocket and cleared his throat, "U- uhm... yeah, Shuichi Saihara?" He tilted his cap down with his right hand and stared down at his feet.

"I'm uh... in your home-room..."

"Ohh...!" You smiled, "I'm sorry! I must've forgotten!"

You paused as confusion fogged your mind.

"Wait, how do you know where I live?"

Ignoring your question, Shuichi began speaking again, "Y/n, I... I'm really sorry for this..."

"For wha—"

Cutting your sentence short, the what seemed to be quiet boy forcefully pushed you against your front door. Before you could react, a white cloth was shoved into your face.

Then everything went black.

(E/c) eyes fluttered open at the sound of quiet footsteps against a hard, solid floor.

Your vision was blurry as you slowly, but surely, began to regain consciousness.

Looking up at the source of the noise, not being able to clearly make out a face. What you could see was the blurry silhouette of a male in a black suit and tie.

Wait... what was the last thing that happened?

And where the hell are you!?

The male peered down at you, a small smile grazing his pale features.

"I hope you're not too hurt, Y/n, dear," a soft yet sinister voice spoke out.

"It took me a good while to think of a fast yet efficient way to knock you out without causing any external injuries to your... perfect body..." the strange person kneeled down to be at eye level with you, and that is when your vision got clearer.

The first thing you noticed was their dark-blue hair almost fully being covered by a black cap.

Those shy, grey-green irises accompanied by long, dark eyelashes frantically looked around your fearful figure for injuries.

The dim light illuminating the strange room shone against his unhealthily-pale, snow white skin, making whoever this person was more visible.

And quite obviously, 'this person' was...

"Shuichi Saihara!!?" You screamed.

Or, attempted to scream.

For your mouth was sealed shut with duct-tape. Making all your desperate screams and shouts muffled or silenced.

And for the cherry on top, your wrists were cuffed together and you could say the same for your ankles.

Shuichi had sat you on a mattress with your back against the hard, cement wall. Beside you were blankets of your favorite colors and stuffed animals you thought you've lost months ago.

How nice... you thought sarcastically.

"Oh good, you're not hurt." He let out a relieved sighed and moved a bit closer to your face.

You flinched and backed up as far up against the wall you could.

"I had no idea what I'd do to myself I was ever the cause of you being hurt...!"

A wide smile spread across the teenage boy's face after he said that.

The smile of a complete psychopath.

"...I... I wouldn't be able to live with myself..." he muttered. "I would... wouldn't be surprised if I ended it right there..."

Those where the last few words you could make out before he continued to quietly ramble incoherent words to himself.

You jerked away from him as he yanked your hands closer to his chest, holding onto them firmly.

"I... I know you don't understand why I brought you here... m- maybe you'll never understand... but I did this for us! I did this for you!" He exclaimed.

"If not... If not, you'd never know about my undying love for you! I love you so much Y/n! I love you more than I could ever love myself!!"

His words left his mouth so easily, as if every single word he spat wasn't complete insanity.

Light red dusted his pale cheeks as he confessed his love to you over and over and over again.

Until there was and abrupt stop to his words.

His mood switched faster than a stop light.

Roughly, he pulled you into his open arms, holding you in an uncomfortably firm embrace.

You let out a quiet yelp at his forceful action. Tears pricked in your (e/c) eyes as you struggled to pull out of his tight grip.

He shushed you while your screams and shouts to be released we're muffled.

All your actions being completely, utterly futile.

"Shh..." his left arm held onto your waist as his right hand rested on the back of your head.

"I won't hurt or harm you in any way, dear," Shuichi lovingly whispered in your ears.

You squirmed and desperately tried to pry him off your trembling figure. The tears building up in the corners of your eyes began rolling down your cheeks, staining your soft, (s/c) skin.

"Y/n... do you know why I brought you here...?" He traced small circles onto the small of your back as his occupied hand caressed the back of your head comfortingly.

Despite the lack of a response, he continued, "it's because... because you've never noticed me..."

He sighed sadly and continued, "Every single one of my attempts to get your attention were all in vain... Fuck, you didn't even know my first name until a few hours ago."

A bright pink dusted his cheeks, "But now that I have you here, all to myself... I'm going to so I am the only one you'll ever see."

A large, crazy smile formed on his pale, "From the moment you wake up to the hour you go to sleep, I'll be there."

"And maybe then... only then, you will finally love me back."

"Because you mean everything to me..."

You trembled in fear while weakly whimpering and struggling to push him off with his "loving" embrace tightening. His confession and reasoning was completely nonsense to you. You didn't care about his love for you.

You just wanted to go back home.

More and more tears rolled down your face in frustration as he proceeded to hopelessly ramble.

Until there was an abrupt stop to his speaking.

You froze at his change of tone and demeanor. Your desire to leave and never come back growing even stronger than before.

The mentally unstable teenager released you from his "loving" arms. He tilted your face up by your chin to look you into your red, puffy eyes.

"You... you're crying...?" His dull, green eyes widened in slight shock.

Carefully, he wiped the hot tears streaming down your face with his thumb.

"Please... please don't cry..." he muttered softly, "Don't cry, Y/n..."

Wiping away the last of your tears, he completely rids your skin of his touch.

"Ah, I get it now..." he chuckles to himself.

"I'm not good enough."

"Thats why you desperately desire to leave. That's why I destroyed my mental and physical health spending hours in my locked bedroom stalking your social media. That's why I imagine all the people who think they have a chance with you being eliminated in the most gruesome ways. Just recently coming into his Ultimate Detective skill, he doesn’t mind aiding you in your pursuit

He has a strong sense of justice

The driving factor in his side-kick role in your villainy

He’s more than happy to blush from behind you while your schemes succeed

He no doubt started as an average applicant for heroes

Turned away for his lack of fanaticism and unwillingness to entertain

He is the perfect seed that you invest in sprouting

Giving him the push and motivation to become a trusted detective among the so-called heroes

Shuichi tipped his hat before following the commissioner’s gaze. It was truly bizarre to see you in casual business attire. 

“No problem commissioner…Perhaps I can talk them out of a case against the precinct. Maybe over a dinner or two?”

“Ha! Are you serious?” The commissioner watched as a blush danced along the detective’s cheeks. He playfully shook his head giving a hearty pat against Shuichi’s trench coat. 

“Then by all means. I’d owe you one if we don’t end up getting a lawsuit after all.”

“--You’ll surely be hearing from my lawyer! Especially about the violent treatment.”

He heard your threats continue as you fought the lieutenant who was attempting to keep you from following through on your threats. With a final shout and hand to the lieutenant’s face, you were out of the police department's hands and in the parking lot where Shuichi was waiting. 

“Oh wow! The detective, too? Now I’m sure you too are here to convince me not to sue this precinct into oblivion?”

“Not at all (Y/n), I’m just hoping to maybe treat you. A small apology for all your troubles.”

He watched your eyes roll and a huff leaves your lips before accepting. 

“You’re darn right about trouble. A meal would be appreciated but don’t think this makes up for any of your transgressions against me!”

“Of course not.”

With that, you entered the open door of his passenger’s seat as you impatiently waited for the detective to follow. With a few officers silently cheering from the windows of their department Shuichi waved before entering the driver’s seat.

The drive was silent; aside from the decisions on the eatery. 

The talking only started once again when you were finally entering the restaurant.

“This was a good pick, detective. I’m mildly impressed.”

Good work my faithful detective, I’m impressed at how easily you got away with it.

“I’m glad you like it. My only wish is to make you happy.”

I’m glad to do anything to keep you safe happy+.

“Lucky for you there were no unexpected hitches during my detainment. Which will make my incoming lawsuit severely less damaging.”

I so badly wish to deal with this myself. To end his life for your cause would be an honor.

“Please detective, be reasonable. Like I said before you’re just a pawn and I have no qualms with you. On a side note, this wine is absolutely divine.”

Seriously Shuichi, stop. I already have someone on this. You’re my pawn, my tool. I’ll use you for all your worth including your mistakes. Let’s move on we’ll draw attention.

Hit him and get your arms behind your back, kick them and they'll tie your legs together, it's all about mitigating potential for future misbehavior while trying to gently correct and fix it.

So many rights, Shuichi knows best. Shuichi will choose what clothes you wear, what food you get, what books you read, and you're never going to be allowed out of your room alone. Privacy just doesn't exist, and you will feel a bit like a doll that Shuichi dresses up and carries around.

Vice: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?

Need for attention and affection, lay on the adoration thick and act cute and all lovey and he'll lower his guard down and be more open to giving you more freedom. Act innocent and naive and sigh about how much you'd love to go walk around a garden or whatever and eventually he's going to crumble and take you outside to a secluded area.
