Valley of Zephathah
2 Chronicles 9-13 9 Then Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah. 10 So Asa went out against him, and they set the troops in battle array in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no…

Collector's Edition: Mulder's POV
Here's a few first-person fics for your enjoyment.
Loose chronological order below~
@eggschiptune/@ferdieylisse's until it ends (Tumblr)
“Mulder! I need your help!” had come Scully’s strangled voice from the receiver, interspersed with a barrage of awful knocking and shattering noises. In that instant he had been 12 years old again and just as helpless.
One Breath Mulder's evolving thoughts.
David Hearne's
A Petition to Heaven
I wasn't just worrying about a woman who had survived the poison injected into her body. I had a bad feeling about this investigation. This one, I kept thinking, is not going to end happily. This one will have few survivors.
Firewalker Mulder frantically runs back to his partner.
Nine
11:19
Please, Scully. You've always come through in a clutch for me before. Don't fail me now.
10:52
FTF Mulder stares down a bomb.
Agent L's
Mystery Date
All right, so I'll make it up as I go along. Not much different than the rest of my life.
AU-- Post-Small Potatoes Mulder and Scully blunder through his wooing attempts.
Unlikely Intercessor
I could imagine her here, sitting primly in the pew on Sunday morning, dressed in something feminine and pretty. She would rise and sit at the appropriate times, sing the hymns in her off-key voice and give herself up to the ancient, comfortable rituals. Most proper and sober, until the sun happened to strike one of the stained-glass windows at just the right angle, and cover her in rainbows. Then she would look up and smile with pure joy at being alive.
God, please restore her joy....
Post-Orison Mulder supports his partner.
Misinformed
Judging by the brief flight time and the bumpy landing, I'm guessing we're still on Planet Earth, although I have no idea where. They left the hood on as I was carried off the plane -- again by humans, unless aliens use colorful four-letter words and wear Old Spice cologne -- and put me wherever I am now. That was at least an hour ago by my calculations.
AU-- Post-Requiem Mulder comes face-to-face not with aliens, but with men.
And We Drown and The Journey Back
The first time I came here was to escape from the voices in my head, to find a quiet corner, to feel fresh air on my skin. To be alone. Yet I wasn't alone. The boy was here then, playing in the sand as boys will, patiently answering my questions about what he was doing. I helped him build the most beautiful sand sculpture...Then I woke up in the hospital, a bloody bandage wrapped around my head, with no recollection of how I got there, except for the woman who was with me. The woman with red hair....The woman....
I can't remember her name.
TINH Mulder rediscovers the boy on the beach.
Wish List
I want to go running.
I want to wake up and dress in the dark, stumble outside in the chilly pre-dawn air. Do a few stretches, feel the slow burn as my muscles wake up and obey my mind's commands. The shock of the pavement against my shoes, the concentrated effort of mind and body working together until the rhythm is comfortable, familiar. Autopilot at a quarter of a mile. Sometimes I focus on the run, on how my body feels, trying to regulate my breathing or push myself a little harder, a little faster. Sometimes I operate on muscle memory and my mind leaves my body behind to do its own workout. Free association. Stream of consciousness. Last night's game. The latest case. Life. Love. Death. The usual.
At this point, I'd settle for walking. Or even sitting up without assistance.
Post-Deadalive Mulder is impatient for release.
@amplifyme/wonderland/Lydia Bower’s
Affinity 2
I can remember every single detail of that night. I'll bet she can, too. We're on the outskirts of D.C. before another word is spoken. I just keep coming around to the same thing and it just keeps gnawing at me. I bite the inside of my cheek but it comes out anyway. "Hey, Scully. You really thought it was me that night. Right?"
She heaves a weary sigh. She's probably tired of answering the same questions. No, if that were the case, she would have answered my last one. It was something new and different.
Post-Small Potatoes Mulder and Scully slowly reconnect. (Part 2 to Affinity 01 [Ao3].)
Primal Sympathy
I don't cry for myself this time. I've shed enough selfish tears. And, anyway, it's not like I had a sterling reputation to begin with.
It's her I cry for. For what she'll have to go through. For what she's already suffered. For what she'll believe. Not yet knowing it's just another lie - another in an endless line of them going back more years than we've been alive.
I cry for her. Die for her.
AU-- Redux Mulder is swept up in the hybrids' counter-conspiracy, unable to tell his partner he's alive.
Satchie's
Dancing with Mephistopheles
"You've sustained an injury to your left anterior cerebral artery, which has caused some hemorrhaging into your brain. That's why you're having speech difficulties and the weakness on your right side. We're going to repair the damaged artery and evacuate the clot."
Brain surgery? You've really outdone yourself this time, Mulder.
Post-Demons Mulder wakes, alone.
Jenna's IOU
We spend the next few hours reliving the past 22 years through my eyes. I tell her everything, but mostly about my time spent with Scully and all that has happened to us over the last two years. She finally has gained the nerve to ask "the" question.
"This Scully, is she is a "partner?" Or is she is a "partner, partner?"
AU-- Post-Redux II Mulder and Samantha root around their childhood memorabilia.
Jamie Greco's Quirky (Gossamer)
She had an idea about making a fire to warm me, but it is a failure so she returns and begins to tug awkwardly at me. I don't know what she wants; but whatever it is, she can have it. I tell her I don't want to wrestle; but truth be told, I'd like nothing better. It turns out she wants to hold me in her arms, in her lap no less, and I have won the fortune's lottery.
Detour Mulder's thoughts while in shock.
syn's The Ending That I Wanted
Anyway, the mystery was solved, wasn't it?
It was over. My sister had been returned to me.
But it wasn't the ending that I wanted.
Post Modern Prometheus Mulder is struggling with current reality.
Alanna's Fortress
We continue to drive, not watching the clock, until I notice a sign for the exit to Tijuana in front of us. I take it. I don't know why, but I take it. The miles pass below us as the tires lull us into complacency. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice she is looking at me, so I turn my head. She smiles, softly, and squeezes my hand.
"Thank you, Mulder." I don't reply, but I know that I'm starting to witness the breakthrough.
Post-Emily Mulder and Scully and grief.
Rachel Anton's Just Words 01
Alright this pacing around the apartment thing is getting old. Time for a new task. Maybe I'll clean the grout in my tub. I'll bet she never gets grout.
Chinga Mulder hates weekends.
mimic117's
Imperfect Penance
It's a dangerous assignment, I won't kid you about that. I knew what I was getting into from the start, although I wasn't happy about going in without backup. Still, Skinner was right. I couldn't risk the operation just because I feel naked without her next to me. But she found out anyway. Wish I could have seen her worming the details out of Skinner.
Pine Bluff Variant Mulder is glad to have Scully on the "in."
Dawn's Restored
The kid's looking at me like *I'm* the bug, and I realize I've just completely lost track of time and the question. If he thinks I'm crazy now, wait until he hears my answer. With mild surprise, I notice I'm not really amused by the idea. Somehow, messing with his head doesn't hold its usual appeal.
Post Folie a Deux Mulder and Scully shakily recover in the aftermath.
(Part 2 to Broken [Ao3].)
Starbuck's One More Thing
It found you again, Scully. I fumbled with the hook for a few seconds, then reached my arms behind her to fasten the clasp. One hand remained behind her head, stroking her hair, while the other traced the gold of the chain as it rested against her chest, one finger remaining on the cross briefly before moving away.
AU-- FTF Mulder has unfinished business.
KatyBlue's Mortal Solicitude (Gossamer)
I pity the people who were on that flight from D.C. to New York with me. It's not that I bothered anyone. I couldn't even speak. I don't think that I said one word to anyone from the time I called the hospital until I made it there. But I maintained a dangerously precarious silence.
Tithonus Mulder directs his rage at one Agent Ritter.
Maria Nicole's Yesterday
I've missed you.
Ever since you were shot in New York, you've been quiet, and in the bullpen we can only discuss the work. I don't know what's going on with you, and that worries me.
Post-Tithonus Mulder works through the guilt of injuring his partner professionally, if not physically. (Part 2 to Maybe Today.)
Zephathah's Breathing in Time
"Just wanted to make sure you were still breathing."
She considers me for a moment, then closes her eye and takes a deep breath, filling her lungs completely before letting it out between rounded lips.
Her eye pops open again. "Yep, still going."
I smile at her, a big one this time. "Good."
Post-Monday Mulder hides away from a nightmare (in Scully's bed.)
J. T. Filipek's Title: Beautiful (Gossamer)
Suddenly the nightmare plays back in my mind-- highlights, like in a movie trailer. It's bad, even on the replay. I sit forward and rub my eyes with the heels of my hands, wincing a little at the pain. It's enough to distract me, to keep me from remembering.
Post Milagro Mulder hits upon two epiphanies: the proof of Scully's love and the mechanism of Padgett's powers.
Mish's (WBM) Memorable Hallway Moments
Call me weird, but I am *not* especially fond of hallways. And if you ask Scully, she would probably agree.
AU-- Post-The Unnatural Mulder and Scully deviate a little from canon.
Gwendolyn's Eight and Twelve
"An only child, huh?"
"Yes. An only child." Suddenly I felt Scully behind me; her gaze on my back was like a physical force. She had heard me. I was frozen in place, unable to turn around and face her.
Mulder is guilt-ridden by an easy lie.
MaybeAmanda/maybe_amanda's (xffics, LJ)
Sojourn (Gossamer)
In, out.
Tell yourself it's just like any other day, any other visit.
It's just Scully; you're just going to see Scully.
See if that helps.
IVF arc Mulder's nervous thoughts on his way to Scully's apartment.
Grave Goods (Gossamer)
My name is still on the headstone, of course. It marks the spot where, without question or Y-incision, she left me behind. Left me, in my favorite suit, under layers of sod and snow and sky, to rot.
Post Three Words Mulder takes a trip to his grave. (Similar to @cecilysass's masterpiece All The Dead Mulder, which is in third person.)
Under Construction (Gossamer)
Then I got the arms. The *pick-me-up* arms. The *you're-my-dad- and-the-toes-of-my-tiny-little-Reeboks-belong-in-your-abs-pick-me-up* arms. I shouldn't hesitate - I shouldn't have to hesitate - but I always do. Anytime Scully noticed, she tried hard to look like she was trying hard not to look pained, but I saw it, anyway. It wasn't that I didn't want to hold William - hold my son. It was just that, every time I reached for him, for an instant I was sure my arms were going to pass right through him and I'd find myself passed out on the cold cement floor of my cell again, clutching my chest and aching for all I'd lost. If the price I had to pay to keep this dream up and running was never really holding it, I was prepared to accept that.
But William wasn't. "Up!" he insisted, so I accommodated.
He was solid. Real. I'm his dad. His toes do belong in my abs.
AU-- S9 Mulder is returned to a saved world with a boatload of trauma (that he and Scully are doing their best to avoid.)
Susanne Barringer's
Chicken Cordon Bleu
Scully hates my meatloaf. I know it. She has never told me that, nor has she ever hinted at it, but I know it just the same. She tries to hide her disgust, but I cannot miss the struggle in her eyes, the intensity of her face, as she fights not to show it. I didn't notice at first; it was maybe the third or fourth time that I served meatloaf that the signs began to register.
Mulder revels in a game of bait-and-reward.
Simian Line
"Simian line, Scully. The heart and head line are chained instead of being separate. That can cause lots of problems. People with a simian line may have difficulty separating their intellectual desires from their emotional ones, and often spend their lives searching for something they never find. They're very single minded, and very intense." I hold up my hand. "I have one."
"Big surprise." The aforementioned eyebrow lifts to emphasize the sarcasm.
AU-- S9 Scully finds out her partner took William to a palm reading.
black.wood/Blackwood's Restored To Grace (Gossamer)
Still, all that was before: before Modell taught us how easily the mind is misled; before the illusion of normalcy with Emily was given and taken away; before an icy tomb nearly claimed her and a soujourn to the Ivory coast challenged her most sacred beliefs. Maybe Dana Scully had simply had enough of disillusionment and darkness. Maybe. But this time, she travels the path of reincarnation alone. That's what we do, Scully and I. After each encounter with the dark side, we lose ourselves and must find a way to regenerate into functioning human beings again.
Post-Orison Mulder and Scully have a hard but necessary conversation.
@contrivedcoincidences6/Spooky66/geektime66's Contemplating Death
I’d asked Scully to do the autopsy despite knowing the pain it would cause her. She was the only one I trusted and if this was a part of the conspiracy I needed her to do it.
She banned me from watching the autopsy so I sat in the dark at home waiting for her.
A glimpse into Sein und Zeit's characters.
Namarie's (LJ) Breathe
I was vaguely disgusted at the fact that I couldn't keep my hand from shaking a little as I held the glass to my mouth. That was probably at least partially due to residual adrenaline from my dreams, I thought. Luckily I managed to drink the water without choking. That hadn't been the case the first time I'd woken up tonight.
Brand X Mulder knows Scully will always save him.
Lolabeegood's Ten Things 01
The fourth time we slept together and I stayed at her house, it was a weeknight. We had been up late discussing a case and one thing lead to me waking up in her bed when the alarm went off at 6:15 am. Like at my place, I hit the snooze button and rolled back over to snuggle into the warmth of her nearly-naked body. Eight minutes later it went off again and she practically blindsided me with a fist as she tried to turn the alarm off.
Mulder enjoys observing Scully's domestic quirks.
@starbuck09256's Differences
Dana is still there hiding behind the long black lashes, the well tailor suits, she is hidden in silk pajamas, extra coffee and real cream cheese. Dana lurks at night in face masks and steals the covers and moans my name into the darkness.
Mulder reflects on his partner's work and home personas.
Suzanne Schramm's Le Chat
"Okay, Mulder, I'm curious." Scully doesn't look up from winding the spaghetti around her fork. "I have to know. What was your final wish?"
"You *have* to know?" I take a sip of water, watching her over the rim of the glass.
Post-Je Souhaite Mulder and Scully discuss wishes.
dee_ayy's Burdened
Dead and buried? For months? I wanted to shout and rail and scream and thrash and beg someone to tell me it wasn't true. But trapped in that still-worthless body, wedded to my plan of waiting out these constant assaults, of letting them pass until I was able to process them in my own time, all I could do was keep my eyes clenched tightly closed, and silently implore these women to leave me alone.
"You heard me, didn't you, Mr. Mulder?" she asked.
Leave. Just leave me alone. This, I was sure, was a burden I could not bear.
Post-Deadalive Mulder wakes to the horror of his abduction and resurrection.
Michelle Kiefer's Second Wind
It seems to be my fate to wake in hospital beds, repeating the experience over and over, perhaps until I get it right. Just about every time, I'd force my eyes open to find Scully, favoring me with a rare smile, holding my hand, touching my face. But she always seemed guarded, as if afraid that the next time, I might not wake at all. Maybe she has finally lived her worst nightmare.
Three Words Mulder can't get warm.
Thanks for reading~
Enjoy!
Looking for recs of character study fics from Mulder's POV. Anything that has to do with the original seasons, (no revival!). Thank you!

Fic Friday (9)
I decided I wanted to share this fic and then spent almost 30 minutes trying to find it. So y'all better appreciate this one 😂 Also this an old fic so no ao3 link or word count.
Title: Breathing in Time
Author: Zephathah
Description: Late one night, Mulder feels the need to check on Scully's breathing.
My thoughts: This fic is short but such a sweet one-bed story. What makes it even better is that there are two sequels: Waking in Fere, and then Resting Beside Me by a different author (Shoshana). But the writing is so similar it doesn't even seem like another person wrote it. And you'll be happy there's three fics in this little universe because that means more of Scully and Mulder snuggling :)
Enjoy! Tagging @today-in-fic

THROUGH HIM, WE ALWAYS PREVAIL
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Dsc. Dsc. DD.
📖 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said…help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee (2 Chronicles 14:11).
There’s a remarkable story of war in the days of Asa, king of Judah. The Bible tells us in 2 Chronicles 14:9 that Zerah the Ethiopian came against Judah with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots. That was an overwhelming force. But Asa didn’t cower in fear; instead, he went out to face them, setting the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
Then Asa did something inspiring; he cried unto the Lord his God for help! Though vastly outnumbered, he knew he needed a miracle, and his trust was in the Lord. He recognized that numbers meant nothing to God. His confidence was in the Name of the Lord. He said, ”...in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee” (2 Chronicles 14:11). What an audacity of faith!
Asa understood that life is controlled from the spiritual realm, so, he looked beyond the physical advantage of the enemy and saw the Lord as his help. This is the mindset you must have at all times. No matter the opposition, the power, influence or wickedness of the adversary; greater is He that is in you than Satan and his cohorts put together. They may appear formidable, but they are weak, and you’re strong. Their words are empty, but yours are full of divine authority.
The result of Asa’s prayer was extraordinary. The Bible says, ”...the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled” (2 Chronicles 14:12). They fled despite their overwhelming numbers, and Asa and his men pursued them all the way to Gerar, utterly overthrowing them.
The Bible says they could not recover themselves because they were destroyed before the Lord and His host. Asa and the people of Judah carried away great spoils (2 Chronicles 14:13). The victory was total; read 2 Chronicles 14:14-15. The fear of the Lord fell upon their enemies, and Judah prospered. Our God is great. So, when you face challenges, don’t be moved. Focus on Him. He is your help, and through Him, you always prevail. Hallelujah!
🙏 P R A Y E R
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Dear Father, you’re my strength and my victory. I stand firm in faith, declaring your Word, knowing that all power belongs to you. Thank you for always causing me to triumph in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
📖 FURTHER STUDY:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
2 Corinthians 2:14; Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. ||
Romans 8:37; Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. ||
2 Chronicles 14:13-15 And Asa and the people that [were] with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14. And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15. They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem. ||

14 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God:
3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4 And commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6 And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the Lord had given him rest.
7 Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the Lord our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
9 And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11 And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let no man prevail against thee.
12 So the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the Lord, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the Lord came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

Asa went out to meet [Zerah], and they drew up their lines of battle in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. Asa cried to the LORD his God, "O LORD, there is no difference for you between helping the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this great multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let no mortal prevail against you." ~2 Chronicles 14:10-11

2 Chronicles 14: 9-15. "Zerah."
Tumblr media
If you are like me, you must feel like the Tanakh is pressing, like bellow press a furnace to keep getting hotter and hotter. As soon as I think we've gotten the recipe for success God wants us to follow, and can rest, celebrate Shabbat, I turn the page and another problematic scenario regarding human life crops up.
The real trouble after Babylon, after resettlement, was how to rapidly organize a bunch of nomadic Jews who were on the cusp of giving up their paganism and turn them into the premier civilization and earth, and keep it going. The problem was citizenship itself- its meaning, duties, how to teach and impress it upon persons who could easily benefit from it without contributing to it.
This happened in between the peace established by Solomon and the reign of his son, Rehoboam. There was rebelliousness and then an insurrection.
13 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam, Abijah became king of Judah, 2 and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maakah,[a] a daughter[b] of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah "freedom to choose" and Jeroboam "contention".
Rehoboam responded with the severity of a parent disciplining a little brat, and the Kingdom held together and achieved something lovely, called "freedom of choice", Abijah, but this has its liabilities.
The result was a new age, an anachronistic drop from the 18th Age to the 13th Age when young persons who lack the ability to surive on their own come to understand their livelihood depends on their dependence on their parents and society. Just as the children of abusive parents and cultures do not reproduce advanced cultures, how can they, the progency of enlightened societies keep the fires of civilization going.
This means everyone has to be 13 years old. The realization of this is called Zerah, "the Southern Dawn", and is the associated with the Archangel Uriel, the witch god, who uses his magic powers to turn somewhat intelligent men into brilliantly scholastic men. Zerah is a member of His Host and is the second stage of Chabad called Binah.
First comes the Light of Awareness, Chochmah, which exposes the presence of mysteries in life, then comes the Dawn Light of Binah, the ability to organize an educational methodolical approach, then comes Daat, implementation. After Daat is Shabbat.
Bear in mind all of this is mandatory. To disobey God on purpose and overindulge ignorance and savagery is a sin called Leprosy. Fortunately, it can be cured. Enter King Asa, the Healer:
9 Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with an army of thousands upon thousands and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. 10 Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.
Zerah=turning East, breaking through, the end of all blasphemy and ignorance. After one turns East, one turns South, or becomes a Cushm, "burnt."
זרח
The verb זרח (zarah) means to break out or arise, and may describe the breaking out of leprosy, to the rising of the sun, to an outburst of joy or glory.
Noun זרח (zerah) means a dawning. Noun אזרח ('ezrah) describes a native (one who locally arose). Noun מזרח (mizrah) literally means place of rising, which is the east.
Thousands upon thousands=The Gematria for this = 1516= 13, which has a meaning of "follow the rules", also Echad which means "fit in."
Three hundred chariots= The Gematria for 300 Chariots is called Shin‎ Merkava, "The Crown Drives."
The masculine noun מרכב (merkab), literally "place/thing of driving". It occurs three times and denotes a seat or saddle (Leviticus 15:9, Song of Solomon 3:10), or chariotry as physical thing (as opposed to a force in battle; 1 Kings 4:26).
Mareshah= to give and take away civil rights
רוש
The shape-shifting verb רוש (rush), ריש (rish), ראש (re'sh) or simply רש (rash) means to be disenfranchised; to have lost liberty and civil rights, usually due to poverty or conquest. Nouns ריש (rish) and ראש (ri'sh) reflect the state of being disenfranchised.
ירש
The verb ירש (yarash) means to enfranchise, to take possession of (at the implied cost of disenfranchisement of others, obviously). Nouns ירשה (yerasha), ירשה (yerushsha), מורש (morash) and מורשה (morasha) all mean possession. Noun רשת (reshet) denotes a net or a similar device to catch game with.
Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah=Protection of Civil Rights must "float to the top."
צפה
Verb צפה (sapa) speaks of covering, whether a literal covering of an item with an overlay like gold or the figurative covering of watchman's surroundings by his watchful gaze. In cognate languages this verb also means to hope.
Noun צפיה (sippiya) means lookout post and noun מצפה (mispeh) means watchtower. Noun צפוי (sippuy) means plating, noun צפית (sapit) means rug or carpet, and noun צפת (sepet) refers to the plated capital of a pillar.
Verb צוף (sup) means to flow or float on top of something else. Noun צוף (sup) describes a honeycomb, or rather the structure of hexagonal cells upon which honey floats. Verb צפה (sapa) means outflow.
Verb צפן (sapan) means to hide or store up. Nouns צפין (sapin) and מצפון (maspon) describe a mass of predominantly static wealth. Noun צפון (sapon) means north, as for unexplained reasons the Bible considers the north a place of gathering. Noun or adjective צפוני (seponi) means northern or northern one.
11 Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”
12 The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled,
13 and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar "the dragging sojourn". Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed before the Lord and his forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder.
14 They destroyed all the villages around Gerar, for the terror of the Lord had fallen on them. They looted all these villages, since there was much plunder there.
15 They also attacked the camps of the herders and carried off droves of sheep and goats and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
Sheep=followers, like Jacob
Goats= hairy boys that need to shave- these are the most impressionable as we all know.
Camels= messengers of the essence of manhood and civilization. Camels are educated men that are able to revive a civilization that has run dry because they endure.
To carry off an enemies sheep, goats and camels rescues societies that are in trouble, like ours, protects them from heresy and leprosy, the worst of which apartheid, the belief humans can be sorted somehow into various classes and levels of equality.
This is essentially what happened when God, Moses and Aaron told the Israelites they were going to make a hard turn away from the most direct course to Jericho, the Promised Land into the Desert of Zin. This because they needed to get Egypt out of their systems and grow up. They were almost certainly not lost as leprosy legend states.
In the Torah in fact, God tells Moses to take the people into the desert and to try to kill them there. Their bitching had him them both on the verge.
When-the bitching- especially about civil rights starts to divide the nation, causing all learning and evolution to stop, it is time, at once, for War and the re-installation of the Fear of God.
There is no possibility for healing or further delving into anything worthwhile until it dawns on humanity how all of this really works.

Asa Reigns in Judah
Tumblr media
1 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years. 2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of Jehovah his God: 3 for he took away the foreign altars, and the high places, and brake down the pillars, and hewed down the Asherim, 4 and commanded Judah to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment. 5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images: and the kingdom was quiet before him. 6 And he built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Jehovah had given him rest. 7 For he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered. 8 And Asa had an army that bare bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.
9 And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and he came unto Mareshah. 10 Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 And Asa cried unto Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, there is none besides thee to help, between the mighty and him that hath no strength: help us, O Jehovah our God; for we rely on thee, and in thy name are we come against this multitude. O Jehovah, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee. 12 So Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. 13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before Jehovah, and before his host; and they carried away very much booty. 14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of Jehovah came upon them: and they despoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them. 15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep in abundance, and camels, and returned to Jerusalem. — 2 Chronicles 14 | American Standard Version (ASV) The American Standard Version Bible is in the public domain. 2 Chronicles 14:11
American King James Version And Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let no man prevail against you.
2 Chronicles 20:12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
1 Samuel 17:45,46 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied…
Psalm 20:5,7 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions…
Matthew Henry Commentary 2 Chr 14:1-15
Asa's piety, He strengthens his kingdom. - Asa aimed at pleasing God, and studied to approve himself to him. Happy those that walk by this rule, not to do that which is right in their own eyes, or in the eye of the world, but which is so in God's sight. We find by experience that it is good to seek the Lord; it gives us rest; while we pursue the world, we meet with nothing but vexation. Asa consulted with his people how to make a good use of the peace they enjoyed; and concluded with them that they must not be idle, nor secure. A formidable army of Ethiopians invaded Asa's kingdom. This evil came upon them, that their faith in God might be tried. Asa's prayer is short, but it is the real language of faith and expectation from God. When we go forth in God's name, we cannot but prosper, and all things work together for the good of those whom he favours.
2 [b]Asa did what was good and right in the sight of the Lordhis God. 3 He removed the foreign altars and high places and tore down the [pagan] pillars (obelisks, memorial stones), and cut to pieces the Asherim [the symbols of the goddess Asherah]. 4 And he commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers [to inquire of and for Him and seek Him as a vital necessity], and to observe the law [given to Moses] and the commandment. 5 Asa also removed the [idolatrous] high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah. The kingdom was at rest and undisturbed under his reign. 6 He built fortified cities in Judah, since the land was at rest, and there was no one at war with him in those years, because the Lord had given him rest. 7 So he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls, towers, gates and bars [to secure the doors]. The land is still ours because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him [longing for Him with all our heart] and He has given us peace on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8 Now Asa had an army of 300,000 men from Judah, who carried large shields and spears, and 280,000 from Benjamin, who carried shields and drew bows, all courageous men.
9 Now Zerah the Ethiopian (Cushite) came out against Judah with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came as far as Mareshah. 10 Then Asa went out against him, and they drew up in battle formation in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 Asa called out to the Lord his God, saying, “O Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and the weak; so help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in and rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.” AMP
12 So the Lord struck the Ethiopians [with defeat] before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. 13 Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as [c]Gerar; and so many Ethiopians fell that none of them were found alive; for they were destroyed before the Lord and His army. And they carried away a very large amount of spoil. 14 They attacked and destroyed all the cities around Gerar, for the dread of the Lord had fallen on them. They plundered all the cities, for there was a large amount of spoil in them. 15 They also struck down the people [living] in tents who had livestock, and took captive large numbers of sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.

Explain in your own words what you just read:
This great-grandson of Solomon took the throne of Judah at the end of Jeroboam’s reign in Israel, after his father’s brief reign.
Commitment / what will i do : I will launched a reform movement that lashed out against both idolatry and officially sanctioned sin.

Asa Reigns in Judah

And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. Asa his son succeeded him as king, and in his days the country was at peace for ten years. 2 Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God. 3 He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.[b] 4 He commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands. 5 He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him. 6 He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the LORD gave him rest. 7 “Let us build up these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men from Judah, equipped with large shields and with spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin, armed with small shields and with bows. All these were brave fighting men. 9 Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with an army of thousands upon thousands and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. 10 Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah. 11 Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. LORD, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.” 12 The LORD struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, 13 and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar.

“gold perfected by fire, so that you can be truly rich.”
A line from Today’s reading of the Scriptures from John’s book of Revelation
[Christ’s Letter to Sardis]
Write the following to the messenger of the congregation in Sardis, for these are the words of the one who holds the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars:
I know all that you do and I know that you have a reputation for being really “alive,” but you’re actually dead! Wake up and strengthen all that remains before it dies, for I haven’t found your works to be perfect in the sight of my God. So remember all the things you’ve received and heard, then turn back to God and obey them. For if you continue to slumber, I will come to you like a thief, and you’ll have no idea at what hour I will come. Yet there are still a few in Sardis who have remained pure, and they will walk in fellowship with me in brilliant light, for they are worthy. And the one who experiences victory will be dressed in white robes and I will never, no never erase your name from the Book of Life. I will acknowledge your name before my Father and his angels. So the one whose heart is open let him listen carefully to what the Spirit is now saying to all the churches.
[Christ’s Letter to Philadelphia]
Write the following to the messenger of the congregation in Philadelphia, for these are the solemn words of the Holy One, the true one, who has David’s key, who opens doors that none can shut and who closes doors that none can open:
I know all that you’ve done. Now I have set before you a wide-open door that none can shut. For I know that you possess only a little power, yet you’ve kept my word and haven’t denied my name. Watch how I deal with those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews but are not, for they’re lying. I will make them come and bow down at your feet and acknowledge how much I’ve loved you. Because you’ve passionately kept my message of perseverance, I will also keep you from the hour of proving that is coming to test every person on earth. But I come swiftly, so cling tightly to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown of victory. For the one who is victorious, I will make you to be a pillar in the sanctuary of my God, permanently secure. I will write on you the name of my God and the name of the city of my God—the New Jerusalem, descending from my God out of heaven. And I’ll write my own name on you. So the one whose heart is open let him listen carefully to what the Spirit is now saying to all the churches.
[Christ’s Letter to Laodicea]
Write the following to the messenger of the congregation in Laodicea, for these are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation:
I know all that you do, and I know that you are neither frozen in apathy nor fervent with passion. How I wish you were either one or the other! But because you are neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm, I am about to spit you from my mouth. For you claim, “I’m rich and getting richer—I don’t need a thing.” Yet you are clueless that you’re miserable, poor, blind, barren, and naked! So I counsel you to purchase gold perfected by fire, so that you can be truly rich. Purchase a white garment to cover and clothe your shameful Adam-nakedness. Purchase eye salve to be placed over your eyes so that you can truly see. All those I dearly love I unmask and train. So repent and be eager to pursue what is right. Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me. And to the one who conquers I will give the privilege of sitting with me on my throne, just as I conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. The one whose heart is open let him listen carefully to what the Spirit is saying now to the churches.
The Book of Revelation, Chapter 3 (The Passion Translation)
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 14th chapter of 2nd Chronicles that documents the life & times of King Asa who succeeded King Abijah:
[King Asa]
Abijah died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. His son Asa became the next king.
For ten years into Asa’s reign the country was at peace.
Asa was a good king. He did things right in God’s eyes. He cleaned house: got rid of the pagan altars and shrines, smashed the sacred stone pillars, and chopped down the sex-and-religion groves (Asherim). He told Judah to center their lives in God, the God of their fathers, to do what the law said, and to follow the commandments. Because he got rid of all the pagan shrines and altars in the cities of Judah, his kingdom was at peace. Because the land was quiet and there was no war, he was able to build up a good defense system in Judah. God kept the peace.
Asa said to his people, “While we have the chance and the land is quiet, let’s build a solid defense system, fortifying our cities with walls, towers, gates, and bars. We have this peaceful land because we sought God; he has given us rest from all troubles.” So they built and enjoyed prosperity.
Asa had an army of 300,000 Judeans, equipped with shields and spears, and another 280,000 Benjaminites who were shield bearers and archers. They were all courageous warriors.
Zerah the Ethiopian went to war against Asa with an army of a million plus three hundred chariots and got as far as Mareshah. Asa met him there and prepared to fight from the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah. Then Asa prayed to God, “O God, you aren’t impressed by numbers or intimidated by a show of force once you decide to help: Help us, O God; we have come out to meet this huge army because we trust in you and who you are. Don’t let mere mortals stand against you!”
God defeated the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah; the Ethiopians ran for their lives. Asa and his men chased them as far as Gerar; so many of the Ethiopians were killed that there was no fight left in them—a massacre before God and his troops; Judah carted off loads of plunder. They devastated all the towns around Gerar whose people were helpless, paralyzed by the fear of God, and looted the country. They also attacked herdsmen and brought back a lot of sheep and camels to Jerusalem.
The Book of 2nd Chronicles, Chapter 14 (The Message)
my personal reading of the Scriptures for Thursday, february 11 of 2021 with a paired chapter from each Testament of the Bible, along with Today’s Psalms and Proverbs
A post by John Parsons that takes a look at the 9th Commandment:
Shalom friends, I am continuing to discuss each of the Ten Commandments since they are related to our Torah reading for this week.... The Ninth Commandment prohibits swearing falsely against your neighbor in matters of law and civil proceedings, but, on a deeper level, it implicitly indicates the responsibility to be a witness of the truth at all times. Note that the Hebrew word for "truth" (emet) is composed from the first, the middle, and the last letters of the Hebrew Alphabet, thus indicating that it encompasses the first things, the last things, and everything in between. Thus, in relation to our neighbor (who is really everyone), we are to be truthful and bear witness to the truth in all our moments of life.

The Living and the Written Word
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
The holy Scriptures and the person of our Lord Jesus Christ are so inseparably bound together that whatever calls into question the integrity and authority of one correspondingly casts aspersions on the other. Let us not be guilty of saying that the written Word and the incarnate Word are in all aspects the same, but the Bible does clearly reveal Christ as “the Word... made flesh, [who] dwelt among us” (John 1:14). “And his name is called The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13).
In carefully worded arguments, Christ time and again called attention to the fact that the teachings of the Old Testament Scriptures were actually teaching about Him. “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me....For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?” (John 5:39, 46-47). “If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead” (Luke 16:31).
Therefore, those who diligently search the Scriptures find in them sufficient testimony to Christ, and where there is faith in the witness of Scripture, there will be faith in Christ and His words. But if men reject the testimony of Scripture, they will not even be convinced by His miraculous resurrection from the dead.
Christ claimed that all of Scripture pointed to Him. On the road to Emmaus, He taught that all three popular divisions of the Old Testament traced one progressive Messianic revelation. To understand the New Testament, we must know the Old, for both tell the same story, each amplifying the other. They are forever inseparable. JDM

* In Heaven no tears will be shed, for God will wipe all tears from our eyes. "There shall be no death, neither sorrow nor crying nor pain." How difficult to imagine such a changed world! Tears are the sad heritage of this life. Sorrow and pain flow from a thousand sources and deepen, widen, and darken earth's sorrow. Our sweetest relationships give birth to our greatest sorrows. Our distresses often flow from our joys. Death reigns. All this will be changed, and everything that gives pain and sorrow will be barred from Heaven forever. How bright the eyes undimmed by a sorrowful tear! How strong and free our souls and bodies will be, utter and eternal strangers to pain! How bright and joyous our hearts with never a cloud or a sorrow. How full of the richest life, untouched by decay and unshadowed by death, Heaven will be! All things are to be made new. There will be no marks of age, no common things, and no freshened or repainted old things.
All things will be absolutely new. A new world, a new life, a new career, a new history, a new environment, a new employment, and a new destiny - all things will be new. World dreams, pictures, poetry, fiction, and music have all failed to give the idea of that new world and its marvellous life. To live there is rapture. Its climax is, "He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son" (Revelation 21:7). It is the wonder and spectacle of angels. Type and shadow, precept and promise, both in the Old and New Testaments, are tokens and seals of the saints' inheritance after death.
No truth is more necessary to man and more in accordance with God's character, none more necessary to his glory, than the doctrine of Heaven. An eternal Heaven of purity and bliss through endless years is a doctrine that enables man and honours God. The existence of Heaven and its matchless perfection is a truth based upon the advent, person and work of Jesus Christ. Christ is the way to Heaven.
...."In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also"....John 14:2-3 KJV

Goodmorning🇹🇿🇬🇧🌏#Cupoftea☕️ 1 So Abijah rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. Then Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet for ten years. 2 Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God, 3 for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images. 4 He commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment. 5 He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him. 6 And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest. 7 Therefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and make walls around them, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8 And Asa had an army of three hundred thousand from Judah who carried shields and spears, and from Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand men who carried shields and drew bows; all these were mighty men of valor. 9 Then Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah. 10 So Asa went out against him, and they set the troops in battle array in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, “ LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. Discuss in the comments section.
The following text is from the English Standard Version.
1 Kings 15
15:1 Now in the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam the son of Nebat, Abijam began to reign over Judah. 2 He reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom. 3 And he walked in all the sins that his father did before him, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father. 4 Nevertheless, for David's sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, setting up his son after him, and establishing Jerusalem, 5 because David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 6 Now there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. 7 The rest of the acts of Abijam and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. 8 And Abijam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his place.
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa began to reign over Judah, 10 and he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom. 11 And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as David his father had done. 12 He put away the male cult prostitutes out of the land and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 13 He also removed Maacah his mother from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. And Asa cut down her image and burned it at the brook Kidron. 14 But the high places were not taken away. Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was wholly true to the Lord all his days. 15 And he brought into the house of the Lord the sacred gifts of his father and his own sacred gifts, silver, and gold, and vessels.
16 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 17 Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah, that he might permit no one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. 18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house and gave them into the hands of his servants. And King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who lived in Damascus, saying, 19 “Let there be a covenant between me and you, as there was between my father and your father. Behold, I am sending to you a present of silver and gold. Go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel, that he may withdraw from me.” 20 And Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel and conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel-beth-maacah, and all Chinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali. 21 And when Baasha heard of it, he stopped building Ramah, and he lived in Tirzah. 22 Then King Asa made a proclamation to all Judah, none was exempt, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber, with which Baasha had been building, and with them King Asa built Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah. 23 Now the rest of all the acts of Asa, all his might, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? But in his old age he was diseased in his feet. 24 And Asa slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father, and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place.
25 Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin which he made Israel to sin.
27 Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, for Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon. 28 So Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah and reigned in his place. 29 And as soon as he was king, he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He left to the house of Jeroboam not one that breathed, until he had destroyed it, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite. 30 It was for the sins of Jeroboam that he sinned and that he made Israel to sin, and because of the anger to which he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel.
31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 32 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah began to reign over all Israel at Tirzah, and he reigned twenty-four years. 34 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin which he made Israel to sin. (ESV)
2 Chr 13-14
13:1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah. 2 He reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah.
Now there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. 3 Abijah went out to battle, having an army of valiant men of war, 400,000 chosen men. And Jeroboam drew up his line of battle against him with 800,000 chosen mighty warriors. 4 Then Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim that is in the hill country of Ephraim and said, “Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel! 5 Ought you not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingship over Israel forever to David and his sons by a covenant of salt? 6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord, 7 and certain worthless scoundrels gathered about him and defied Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and irresolute and could not withstand them.
8 “And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David, because you are a great multitude and have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods. 9 Have you not driven out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves like the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes for ordination with a young bull or seven rams becomes a priest of what are no gods. 10 But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests ministering to the Lord who are sons of Aaron, and Levites for their service. 11 They offer to the Lord every morning and every evening burnt offerings and incense of sweet spices, set out the showbread on the table of pure gold, and care for the golden lampstand that its lamps may burn every evening. For we keep the charge of the Lord our God, but you have forsaken him. 12 Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with their battle trumpets to sound the call to battle against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the Lord, the God of your fathers, for you cannot succeed.”
13 Jeroboam had sent an ambush around to come upon them from behind. Thus his troops were in front of Judah, and the ambush was behind them. 14 And when Judah looked, behold, the battle was in front of and behind them. And they cried to the Lord, and the priests blew the trumpets. 15 Then the men of Judah raised the battle shout. And when the men of Judah shouted, God defeated Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. 16 The men of Israel fled before Judah, and God gave them into their hand. 17 Abijah and his people struck them with great force, so there fell slain of Israel 500,000 chosen men. 18 Thus the men of Israel were subdued at that time, and the men of Judah prevailed, because they relied on the Lord, the God of their fathers. 19 And Abijah pursued Jeroboam and took cities from him, Bethel with its villages and Jeshanah with its villages and Ephron with its villages. 20 Jeroboam did not recover his power in the days of Abijah. And the Lord struck him down, and he died. 21 But Abijah grew mighty. And he took fourteen wives and had twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters. 22 The rest of the acts of Abijah, his ways and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
14:1  Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land had rest for ten years. 2  And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. 3 He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim 4 and commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, and to keep the law and the commandment. 5 He also took out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the incense altars. And the kingdom had rest under him. 6 He built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest. He had no war in those years, for the Lord gave him peace. 7 And he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God. We have sought him, and he has given us peace on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8 And Asa had an army of 300,000 from Judah, armed with large shields and spears, and 280,000 men from Benjamin that carried shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.
9 Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. 10 And Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up their lines of battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.” 12 So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. 13 Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar, and the Ethiopians fell until none remained alive, for they were broken before the Lord and his army. The men of Judah carried away very much spoil. 14 And they attacked all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the Lord was upon them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them. 15 And they struck down the tents of those who had livestock and carried away sheep in abundance and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem. (ESV)
Titus 3
3:1 Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. 3 For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. 9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. 10 As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, 11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.
12 When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. 13 Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. 14 And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.
15 All who are with me send greetings to you. Greet those who love us in the faith.
Grace be with you all. (ESV)
