The Polar Tang Layout/Blue Prints

I wanted to create what I feel is a realistic layout for The Polar Tang and this is what I came up with. Some extra research, references, and info below the cut if you're interested.

What Type of Submarine is the Polar Tang?

So the first thing I wanted to determine, is what type of Submarine The Polar Tang is in the first place. I looked into both diesel-electric and nuclear powered subs. While diesel-electric engines are smaller and would allow for more space in the Tang, I didn't feel that it could accommodate for the canonical speed of the Tang. Not to mention diesel-electric engines aren't designed for long journeys while nuclear engines are. As a nuclear sub, The Polar Tang would have more speed, attack capabilities, stealth, and the ability to go underway for longer stints.

Once I determined that The Polar Tang was a nuclear submarine, I started looking into the build and interior of nuclear subs. I didn't base the interior design for the Tang off any one sub, but some of my major references were the HMS Sceptre, the HMS Vigilant, the Swedish A-11A, and the American NR-1. (I also took quite a bit of information from Rick Campbell's site).

I particularly liked the NR-1 design as a starting point since it was the smallest nuclear sub the US built and it held a crew about half the size of the Heart Pirates. It was also a spy vessel and therefore had a similar level of stealth that the Tang seems to have.

How big is the Polar Tang?

This is a question that has bothered me for a long time. I feel like most people either grossly over or under estimate the size of the Polar Tang so, to try to solve this mystery I went through and collected as many screen caps as I could find that had the Tang next to other vessels (namely the Thousand Sunny) to compare it's size.

And I came to one conclusion: The Polar Tang and The Thousand Sunny are roughly the same size.

Oda has already given a fully layout of the Sunny (if you'd like to see that I have it in pdf form here). So keeping that in mind, when drawing up the floorplans/blueprints, I tried to make sure that the Polar Tang wasn't any larger than the Sunny.

So I wanted to include some miscellaneous information that I may not have included in the main images of the layout as well as some reference photos for what some of the interior might look like to give people a better idea.

Intercoms

The entire sub is outfitted with an intercom system. There are intercoms in every room, hallway, and in several sections of the engineering deck. These intercoms can be used to call specific rooms or decks as well as to make ship wide announcement and alerts. Every intercom can both send and receive messages and alert sounds.

Crew Quarters and Bathrooms/Showers

The crew Quarters and bathrooms/showers are co-ed (I say co-ed, but I like to think that Ikkaku is the only female Heart Pirate because I find it amusing and she's the only female crew member we canonically know of). For a better idea of what the crew's bunks look like, I was thinking something like these:

I mentioned above that the bathrooms are also co-ed and shared (yes this includes Law, he doesn't have a private bathroom or shower, just a sink vanity. A shower would take up too much space imo). I do think that (assuming Ikkaku is the only woman on the crew) Ikkaku would have a designated shower stall that none of the guys use, to insure her privacy and a clean shower. (look it's me cramming in my own hcs lol)

Helm Controls

I also wanted to include a reference photo for the Helm control since we only get to see the control on the Tang from one perspective with Hakugan at the Helm.

Engineering Deck

While the engineering deck doesn't have rooms, it is still a walk-able space, but is very tight with some spaces only being accessible if you were to crawl into them to work on those sections of the engine. Similar to the Galley, the engineering deck would have a fail safe system in case of a fire. The deck is split into sections separated by fire doors. If a fire is detected, an alert will sound (accompanied by flashing lights) and crewmen will have a finite amount of time to vacate the area before the fire door seal it off and suck all the oxygen out to extinguish the fire and prevent an explosion

Hidden Desire

My second contribution to @zolo-san’s 1k ZoSan Community Collab!

Written using @zorosleftankle’s Prompt/Headcanon: Obsessed with Sanji being into Zoro and secretly finding him hot but he only acts on it when he’s drunk but never remembers it so he still acts like it’s a secret

Zoro already knows but goes along with it because if that’s what makes the cook happy and how he can mentally deal with being into the sexiest swordsman then he’s fine with it 😎

Summary:

What happens when Sanji gets drunk?

Certainly a lot of messing around and fun to be had with the crew, that’s a given, but then there’s also Zoro, who Sanji would never, ever, admit his attraction to. Right?

Or;

Sanji has the worst case of denial. Zoro goes along with a lot to keep him happy.

Here’s a little sneak peak!

Excerpt:

His cool, steel grey eyes warming, revealing the flecks of gold in them when he smiles and the sun hits them just right. His teeth — still sharp and dangerous — surrounded by a grin so genuine it makes Sanji���s stomach ache and his toes curl.

This is how he ends up lying in the grass on Sunny’s deck. Zoro is there, leaning back on his elbows as he watches the crew with that warm fondness that seems to slip through the cracks more and more with every day, and Sanji is helplessly drawn to him like a moth to flame.

He groans, overwhelmed by how attractive Zoro is, and promptly begins gently kicking him in the head. It only seems natural that Sanji return the headache thinking about Zoro’s good looks always affords him.

Zoro raises a brow at him, but he doesn’t retaliate beyond grabbing Sanji’s boot to halt his gentle assault. “What do you want, Cook?”

Sanji frowns, makes a weak attempt to pull his leg back, then gives up entirely too easily. Something about the way Zoro is holding him feels nice. “You’re pissing me off.”

Zoro rolls his eye. “And how’s that?”

“Sitting there, smiling, looking all hot and unbothered while you make my insides stir. You’re not even trying. It’s annoying.”

Zoro actually laughs at that. His fingers curl around Sanji’s left ankle, thumbing over the jut of bone there. Sanji shudders, eyes fluttering as he watches that calloused thumb drag soft patterns over his skin.

“Oh, is that all?”

“Yeah, pretty much.” Sanji shrugs noncommittally. He’s a little distracted.

Zoro tugs. Sanji goes easily, allowing himself to be yanked into place at Zoro’s side.

Zoro puts his drink down in the grass beside them, then turns so that he’s leaning into Sanji’s space; Sanji’s legs bracketing his hips, Zoro’s head hovering above his chest as those rough, strong fingers curve around his calve in a touch so gentle Sanji actually shivers and arches into it.

“If I didn’t know any better, Curls, I’d think you were hitting on me.” There’s a conspiratorial tug to his lips, like there’s a joke between them that Sanji is forgetting the context to, but he doesn’t care. Not when Zoro’s here, looking hot as all hell, and is halfway atop him.

she didnt know who made it she just said "wow that map looks awful" (if anyone has that panel on hand please provide cuz ive lost it)

so it'd be 1st - Nami recognizing his "style" (mess) and thinking: oh. oh right ofc you would be the one to make Torao's maps...lol lmao

2) quickly she would be impressed that DESPITE them being so messy they are still good and detailed/accurate AND like you said - that he is self taught - Nami would compliment him for working with what he has (paws) and still doing a decent job

i think Bepo would be pleased to be praised by someone of such a high caliber but he would correct himself like "Captain is okay with my maps and that matters the most to me!" (cuz Bepo is insane and has to make Everything about Law)

it would definitely be so nice and lovely to see if Bepo would ask her to help her out maybe she would help him with most basics like holding the pen right or how he should be super careful with how much ink he uses - like the basics of draftsmanship - Nami would giggle about feeling like she is teaching a kid and Bepo would get all pouty about it which would make her laugh even more (he is not beating kid allegations with that cute puffed up face and flushed from embarassement cheeks)

would be a wonderful sight

I might have unknowingly caused it to grow rapidly out of nowhere (it’s literally gained like 50+ more members ever since I made a silly little post about wishing the community was more active) but now it’s getting closer to around 100 members and that’s where you enter the territory of bots potentially joining sooooooooo...... I thought I might reach out and ask if you’d potentially be open to the idea of making me a moderator 👉👈 (or if you don’t have a problem with it, I’d love to be a co-admin, but I also know that that requires more trust and idk how you would feel about that >.>)

I’m currently an admin of several communities of my own and a moderator of a few that I didn’t create myself I really like the communities feature and am generally pretty active and attentive in them (I also low-key really like creating and organizing/running communities because I’m a little weirdo lol)

Interpersonal Synchrony

Here’s my contribution to @zolo-san’s ZoSan Community Collab!

Written using @breathing-and-stuff’s prompt: canon compliant zsz three/whatever number of times when Sanji and Zoro share a comfortable silence together and one time when they acknowledge it and maybe do something about it too

Hope you all enjoy!

Summary:

Zoro and Sanji don’t say a word to one another for an entire week, and it isn’t by design. Sanji eventually notices and decides it’s high time they do something about it. Zoro is one hundred percent onboard, especially when he gets to see Sanji’s smile in the process.

Or;

Three times Zoro and Sanji unknowingly calm one another’s racing hearts with the rhythm of their breathing without a word, and one time they have a chat that leads to some heavy breathing that makes their heart rates spike.

Here’s a little snippet!

Excerpt:

And then there is another life force in Zoro’s bed, and as strange as it is sharing space with someone who isn’t cuddly Chopper or tactile Luffy, it isn’t.. bad.

Sanji crawls over him, bodily shoves Zoro over (“Oof!”) so he’s lying on his side, slots himself against Zoro’s back, hooks a leg over his hip, gets all nice and comfortable on top of him like he’s just allowed to be here. And instead of slicing him in three pieces to match his name, or even the usual shout of protests and profanities, Zoro just allows it all to happen.

His cheeks feel warm — Zoro curses his blood vessels for being stirred up so easily, because it clearly isn’t him who’s flustered right now — and he hangs his head forward to hide it.

Sanji seems to take this as an invitation to bury his face against the nape of Zoro’s neck. As much as it scratches at his slice-or-dice response, it also.. leaves his back feeling utterly protected.

Zoro realizes, with a start, that this is the first time he’s been able to comfortably lay on his side since he was a kid.

Normally, Zoro will find a corner or a wall to prop himself up against for a nap. When it’s the floor or a bed, he’s always on his back. It just feels so naked and vulnerable to have his back on display when he’s unconscious, even if his observation haki has never failed him during slumber and he knows his nakama have his back.

That being said, Sanji — someone who Zoro secretly admires for his immeasurable strength, and is just as devoted to the crew as Zoro is — being wrapped around him like a layer of armour… Zoro feels safe, in his hands.

…

The very same hands that have settled against his pecs.

Seriously?

Zoro swats at Sanji’s hand — deliberate in his gentleness; he would never risk harming those precious hands — and is unsurprised by the amused, sleepy smile that spreads against his nape as Sanji’s hands resituate themselves around Zoro’s waist.

And then he’s out.

Zoro assumes he must have woken Sanji up. He had been snoring, earlier, now that he thinks about it, but the faint sound is so familiar to him that Zoro doesn’t even remember when it stopped.

It starts up again, now, though. A soft rumble on the intake, then a near silent release that Zoro tracks as it fans over his own skin. Cool inhale against his neck, warm exhale across the expanse of his shoulders.

It’s weird, really, how almost instantly it begins to slow the racing of his over-caffeinated heart.
