I wonder how alienating it is to Alice, to share her body with a demon. To find out and suddenly she’s not alone. To exchange control with each other back and forth. And to suddenly be alone, and realize both how much sharing her body with another person trapped inside her mind both caused so much stress on her body, and how much Aalis tried to shield her from her own pain? And how empty her mind must feel when they are separated finally.

First and foremost. Cadoc burns like nobody's business. He either wants to go on an overcast day, or he hides under the umbrella for most of the day. This is his lot in life, and he accepts it.
Barry would put himself in charge of sunscreen for everyone (Alice is used to this, Aalis acts like a toddler who doesnt WANT to, and Cadoc knows he needs it but is annoyed that Barry is more on top of it than he is, he's got it thank you!) and he and Cadoc split doing head counts and making sure food and towels and chairs and everything else a beach trip requires.
Alice takes it upon herself to bring the bluetooth speaker and has a beach playlist queued up and ready to go. She probably splits her time evenly between swimming, playing in the sand, and reading under the umbrella. Aalis likes swimming, and also being a big cat chasing the waves and rolling in the sand with Monday. Barry would enjoy swimming, but would help Alice with her sand castle if she asked. Cadoc will wear sunglasses so it's not obvious he's checking Barry out constantly.
In the end, despite more sunscreen than the other three combined, Cadoc is the only one who gets properly sunburnt. Thank the stars demons heal faster than humans.

Male! Alice x Female! Cheshire! reader
Summary - Aalis finds an old friend that resembles someone from his past.
On the way to Hatters, you think to yourself. Thinking was always one way to pass time without any fun friends. You missed that terribly fascinating boy that came to Wonderland years ago. Aalis was it? He was quite the charmer when he met you, constantly telling you how strange your world was, complimenting its strangeness. He disappeared not so long after you met him.
Oh well. People go missing in Wonderland all the time, was a shame such a fun time was stopped short.
“Aalis you have to try this tea! It’s simply revolting!” As you grow nearer you swore you could hear voices talking. As you approach Hatter and his gang of mischiefs, you see among them a man with silky blonde hair. He’s eyes lock onto yours and he’s smile widens.
“It’s the Cheisire! from my dreams! It’s really you!”
Your signature smile rests upon your face as you teleport to be behind his seat, caressing his face you nod. “Yes it’s me.. but i’m no mere dream. I’m very much real Aalis”
His eyes take you in, like you could disappear at any moment and never come back. You blush at him and take the seat next to him.
“So.. where were you Aalis? We all missed you very much. So strange to disappear from Wonderland, not even a toodle do” Hatter comments. Aalis looks around at the table in amusement, thinking that his brain had conjured a pretty good mixture of fun. “I must’ve woken up, I’m terribly sorry. I’m going to have to wake up again, of course. But I do wish I could stay dreaming forever”
You put a hand on his thigh and lightly caressing with your finger tips. Feeling him shudder underneath you. “Poor Aalis doesn’t want to wake up from Wonderland, what misery awaits you in the waking life I wonder?”
He looks down at his empty tea cup and sighs. “I’m being forced to marry a woman I barely know and don’t love. Mother hates all of my strange quirks even more since father died and everyone around me seems to be incased in a glass veil of depression, no wants to hear me out”
You look at him with a concerned expression, seems like the life he is regular seen in is very boring. The people sound worse than the ones in Wonderland!
“Except my best friend Y/N, she’s strange and sees things like I. I don’t see her around anymore though, seems like she’s always floating away.”
Aalis had a faraway look in his face, eyes glossed like his resurfacing a memory. But before he could ponder more, a biscuit is thrown his way. Hitting him straight in the forehead. “Don’t be so glum Aalis! This is Wonderland, so effortless strange and beautiful. Do enjoy it while you can boy.” Hatter says, a crazed look in his eyes.
Aalis smiles and nods. He’s past worried fading away as he sinks into the madness of Hatters tea parties. But he wonders why he hasn’t noticed why you and Y/N look the same, nearly identical even.
-
It was time for Aalis to go. He had finished his adventures in Wonderland and was preparing to go back to his world. You and everyone gathered around him to say goodbye.
You hug him tightly, breathing in his scent. “You’ll be back Aalis? Promise” You whisper, you feel him nod and hug you back just as tight. You would always be waiting for him in Wonderland, same as everyone else.
He stands back and looks at you, thoughts racing in his mind. “You were always too quick for me” You smile widely and brush his hair from his face. “I’ve just been here to guide you Aalis, I’ve got no idea what your talking about”
He smiles back at you and kisses your cheek. His warmth spreading to your heart. You were going to miss him.
-
Back in the real world, Aalis returned to his feeble life. But this time he stood up for himself and declared he was not to marry. Instead he was to find his own wife and find a life that suited him nor anyone else.
When Aalis was getting ready for an expedition, you raced into his room one evening. Heart beating as you heard the news.
“You’re not going on the seas are you Aalis? You must be mad!” Aalis only looks at you and kneels down in front of you. “Y/N come with me. I can’t imagine living a good life without you. You complete me in every strange and effortless way”
His blue eyes look straight into yours, laced with security and sincerity. An cheshire smile widens on your face as you nod your head. “I see you’ve finally decided to leave your mediocre life behind Aalis, I would love to join you”

Etymological Origins of Secret Shanghai Characters - Part 2: The White Flowers
This will be a mix of information from Behind the Name .com, and my own knowledge of Latin and Shakespeare! Enjoy!
Roma-
Obviously named after his Shakespeare counterpart
Russian
Diminutive of Roman (his full name)
From the Late Latin name Romanus meaning "Roman". Roma is also the Latin nominative singular for Rome (the city).
It seems to be related to Romeo (Italian) through Romaeus, another late Latin name.
I find it very funny that Roma and Juliette are both named indirectly after Ancient Rome/roman leaders and that is sooo accurate.
Benedikt-
Form of Benedictus (see Benedict) in several languages. Russian Spelling
Benedikt is English, from the Late Latin name Benedictus, which meant "blessed".
Does not seem to be related to Benvolio, the name of his Shakespeare counterpart. Chloe probably just chose it because it was a Russian name with 'Ben' in it.
Marshall-
English
From an English surname that originally denoted a person who was a marshal. The word marshal originally derives from Latin mariscalcus, itself from Germanic roots akin to Old High German marah "horse" and scalc "servant".
This name is weird. Obviously 'Mars' is used as a nickname, but there's not really any other related names!
DEFINITELY not related to Mercutio. Idk how Chloe chose it, but it fits Marshall perfectly.
Alisa-
I'm pretty sure that my girl doesn't have a Shakespeare counterpart, so Chloe could do whatever she wanted with her name!
It's a variant of Alice in several languages, such as Russian (And surrounding countries, including other East Slavic languages)
(Alice): From the Old French name Aalis, a short form of Adelais, itself a short form of the Germanic name Adalheidis (see Adelaide). This name became popular in France and England in the 12th century. It was among the most common names in England until the 16th century, when it began to decline. It was revived in the 19th century.

Alice is an extremely old name derived from the Old French name Aalis, a short form of Adelais, a short form of the Germanic name Adalheidis. Alice became popular in England and France in the 12th century—oldest person with a Wikipedia page: Alice of Antioch (c. 1110 to sometime after 1136).
Carlisle was derived from the name of a city in the 1st century. Initially, it was a surname; it is a first name in modern usage (modern being subjective) —oldest person with a Wikipedia page: Carlisle D. Graham (1850-1909)
Multiple Anglo-Saxon kings used Edward—oldest person with a Wikipedia page: Edward the Elder (c. 874 to 924).
Emmett was derived from an English surname as a diminutive of Emma. Robert Emmett is the oldest person with a Wikipedia page (1778-1803). As for as a first name, it’s Emmett Dalton (1871-1937)
Esme is from Old French—oldest person with a Wikipedia page: Duke Esmé Stewart (1542-1583).
Jasper might be from a Biblical Hebrew word —oldest person with a Wikipedia page: Jasper Tudor (1431-1495)
Rosalie is from a Late Latin name that was given to a 12th-century Sicilian saint —oldest person with a Wikipedia page: Catherine-Rosalie Gerard Duthé (1748-1830)
Going by the Wiki pages from oldest usage to most recent- Edward (874), Alice (1110), Jasper (1431), Esme (1542), Rosalie (1748), Carlisle (1850), Emmett (first name only- 1871). This is obviously not accurate, as other people would have carried these names before the ones listed here, in all likelihood.
When Bella first sees the Cullen kids in school, she mentions their "Strange, unpopular names [. . .] The kinds of names grandparents had."
Some of these names have since become popular, but even when I read the books initially in the 2000s, I was like . . . is that an unpopular old person name, though? for some of them.

Meanings of names. Batim/Batdr edition!
Hello there! I'm back with another name meanings list! This time it's the Bendy verse, because it was immortalized (Hehe heh get it) yet again, and I couldn't be more excited.
So! I will be doing the primary characters for both games, BUT not all of them. I’ll be doing all the folks from Batim, since there aren’t as many as in Batdr, which added a TON of new characters and I for the live of me can't do them all. It would take me an eternity, so there... So, I won’t do those who had like one tape or memo. Sorry. I also will not be including characters from the comics or the books. Yeah. (but I can do a part 2 if you guys want ehehehehe)
Let's go!
Toons (not doing the corrupted versions, they’re technically the same)
Bendy. I'm pretty sure that Meatly made it up from the name of some editing program. Something something Bender, not sure.
Boris. From a Bulgar Turkic name, also recorded as Bogoris, perhaps meaning "short" or "wolf" or "snow leopard". Hey! Literally a wolf!
Alice. From the Old French name Aalis, a short form of Adelais, itself a short form of the Germanic name Adalheidis, which means "noble type". Hmm, I like it! Fits her. I’m obviously also counting Twisted Alice and Allison Angel. They all have the same name.
Charley (one of my favourite characters hehehehe). Diminutive form of Charles, which means "man". Literally. Just man. MAN. That’s it. I guess that fits... Charley is, after all, A MALE. Yeah.
Barley. Means “grower of barley”. Lmao. Just like that.
Edgar. Derived from the Old English elements ead "wealth, fortune" and gar "spear". I mean... I guess? He has nothing to do with spears, but he’s got fangs. They’re sharp. Spears are sharp.
Humans (from here on going in alphabet order)
Allison Pendle. Norman French diminutive of Aalis, so basically the same as Alice. Cool! She’s very sweet, so it fits for her as well!
Audrey Drew (putting her here because I don’t really count her as an ink entity). Medieval diminutive of Æðelþryð, which is derived from the Old English elements æðel "noble" and þryð "strength". Oh, she sure is strong!
Bertrum Piedmont. Means "bright raven", derived from the Germanic element beraht "bright" combined with hramn "raven". Uhhmm. Ooook then. Not sure where the raven comes from.
Daniel ”Buddy” Lewek. From the Hebrew name דָּנִיֵּאל (Daniyyel), meaning "God is my judge". Nuuuu, Buddy:( I still feel very bad for him... Man, poor guy.
Grant Cohen. From an English and Scottish surname that was derived from Norman French grand meaning "great, large". Well, his boss had GRANT plans for the studio (please don’t hurt me, I know the pun is bad).
Henry Stein (the man!). From the Germanic name Heimirich meaning "home ruler", composed of the elements heim "home" and ric "ruler". OOOOHH, i love it! Considering he is the actual creator of Bendy, he technically is the ruler!
Jack Fain. Derived from Jackin (earlier Jankin), a medieval diminutive of John, which itself is derived from the Hebrew name יוֹחָנָן (Yochanan) meaning "Yahweh is gracious". Maybe Jack is jewish? It’s unlikely, but I literally don’t know what to say here.
Joey Dr(ew). Diminutive of Joseph, which was from the Hebrew name יוֹסֵף (Yosef), meaning "he will add". Endless torment, that’s what he’ll add. Ugh, poor Henry.
Lacie Benton. Variant of Lacy. From a surname that was derived from Lassy, the name of a town in Normandy. I couldn’t really find anything else, so...I guess?
Nathan Arch Sr. From the Hebrew name נָתָן (Natan) meaning "he gave". Wha- what’d he give? A new chance for Bendy to be relevant again? Idk, really.
Nathan ”Wilson” Arch Jr (please don’t hurt me, but I kinda like him as a villain... Like, yeah, he’s creepy as all heck, but isn’t that kinda the point? So there, I said it). I will be doing his moniker, since duh. The name comes from an English surname meaning "son of William". Eeeehhhh, almost fits, just replace William with Nathan.
Norman Polk (eeeeyyyy it’s ma dude!). From an old Germanic byname meaning "northman", referring to a viking. Now that’s interesting. I can’t tell English accents apart very well, but I saw someone say he’s got a southern accent. And then there’s NORTHman. Hmmmm.
Sammy Lawrence. Diminutive of Samuel, coming from the Hebrew name שְׁמוּאֵל (Shemu'el), which could mean either "name of God" or "God has heard". Lmao, I guess his god really did hear him. And decided to fucking murder him.
Shawn Flynn. Anglicized form of Seán, which on itself is the Irish form of John, so basically the same as Jack.
Susie Campbell. Diminutive of Susan. This was derived from the Hebrew word שׁוֹשָׁן (shoshan) meaning "lily" (in modern Hebrew this also means "rose"), perhaps ultimately from Egyptian sšn "lotus". Oh, maybe those are her favourite flowers!
Thomas Connor. Greek form of the Aramaic name תָּאוֹמָא (Ta'oma') meaning "twin". OH he and Buddy are technically twins! Or, well, clones.
Wally Franks. Diminutive of Walter, which comes from a Germanic name meaning "ruler of the army", composed of the elements wald "rule" and hari "army". Pffft, he’s the ruler of the army that got OUTTA THE STUDIO, yeah ok it fits.
Ink entities (not doing Sammy, Jack and Norman for obvious reasons)
Betty. Diminutive of Elizabeth. From Ἐλισάβετ (Elisabet), the Greek form of the Hebrew name אֱלִישֶׁבַע ('Elisheva') meaning "my God is an oath". The heck- did she turn into Sammy?
Big Steve. Short form of Steven, which derives from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stephanos) meaning "crown, wreath". Uhh, I guess? Is there something that we have yet to discover?
Heidi. German diminutive of Adelheid, which means "noble type", from the French form of the Germanic name Adalheidis. Damn, what’s with all the nobles? Unrelated, but I love her bowtie.
Porter. From an occupational English surname meaning "doorkeeper". Oooohh, ok then, he technically is one.
And that’s it! Whew, took me quite some time. Please do tell me if you want a part two with the other folks! I’m not sure, when (and if) I’ll make it, we’l have to see.

😭 share a snippet that will break our hearts
touched up this scene recently, added a few lines that gave it some extra punch
“I mean it, Aalis. I can’t… I’m done. Dante was enough heartbreak for a lifetime, and my life has been very long. I can’t.” How many years had it been since he’d said that name out loud? Too many. Not enough. He swallowed hard. Aalis didn’t say anything for a long time. Eventually, she said, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have— I didn’t even stay long enough for the funeral.” That damn near broke his heart. She shouldn’t have to expect to carry the weight of his grief too. That was his guilt to bear. “You were going through enough. And you don’t need to hold my hand. Humans die.” The words burned coming out, and they landed with more weight than he intended. The silence stretched. And stretched. Cadoc didn’t know how to break it. This was the sort of thing he’d always outsourced, especially to Dante— But Dante was dead. Cadoc was on his own. Likely he would only make this worse. So he didn’t bother to try.
🧢 share a snippet about clothes
Adding more descriptions is what im working on this draft so I don't have many mentions of clothes yet, but I do love how the house clearly adores Alice sm
Alice slept for 12 hours after that whole… ordeal was an unfair description. But it wasn’t inaccurate either. At least they had some peace and quiet. The house had delivered breakfast in the form of oats with freshly sliced apples. Whatever spices had been used were unfamiliar to Alice, outside of the obvious cinnamon and brown sugar. Nostalgia radiated from Aalis, but she didn’t have any explanations for Alice. She was sleepily content enough she didn’t even complain that the house got Alice a mug of her favorite tea instead of the coffee they all knew Aalis preferred. On top of having breakfast ready when they were awake, the house had Alice’s meds ready to drop on the bed. She didn’t even have to get up. It only started to feel a little like pampering when a soft lavender sweater, dark jeans, and a new pair of boots appeared at the foot of the bed for her. There was even a matching cane etched with delicate vines and birds on the pastel purple metal. It’s no effort for the house to make sure you’re taken care of, Aalis promised. There was a touch of smugness to her tone anyway. You up for an adventure? I want to show you something, and it’ll get us away from Sir Broods A Lot and his chicken for the morning.

ignore the placeholder brackets i havent made it this far into editing yet
Still she hesitated, but in the end she spat out a particularly nasty curse and shouldered past Cadoc. He closed the door behind him and the cabin vanished. Now there was a never ending hallway, like there always would be and always was. A thrum of recognition ran from Aalis through Alice. Home, she said. Home. Alice could feel the truth in that word. As many reservations that Cadoc had, Aalis had missed this place. More than she had let Alice know. Nostalgia, grief, longing, a touch of fear. All of it boiled right under Alice’s thoughts, distinctly separate from her own feelings. Alice peered around, trying to understand. To see what Aalis saw. The rough hewn walls stretched and stretched in the distance. The air was heavy. Not cold. Not warm. Not comfortable, or uncomfortable. It just was. There was no telling where the light was coming from. It wasn’t dim, or bright. Nothing grew on the walls, nothing scurried in the shadows. Just a never ending path that was larger than Alice remembered previously. It’s not the road, really. That changes. It’s- it’s just home. Aalis tapped Barry’s shoulder, and he let them down, though they had to hold onto his arm to stay upright. Cadoc did his headcount, ignoring Amara’s hiss when he brushed past. He reached for a door that materialized right as he turned the knob. Alice blinked, but Aalis helped them forward. Cadoc offered them a hand. He helped them through the doorway. The room they walked into was massive and dark. The designer seemed to have drawn inspiration from both Gothic and Greek influences, and then decided that wasn’t creepy enough. Pillars rose alongside the main carpet that led to a throne made of bones. Alice’s stomach twisted. She gripped Cadoc’s arm tighter. The flames that lit the room, just barely, were tinged blue. It added to an air of [unsettling] that seemed to only bother Alice and Barry. Cadoc was steady under her hand. Though Aalis was quick to point out Amara was suspiciously quiet. Smoke crept along the floor, and curled around their feet as they slowly made their way towards the eerie throne.

The Hargreeves' Names
ik this has been done over and over again but i like to organise things where i can see them properly etc.
i'm basing this off of the above statement by Steve Blackman. however i can't reliably show the popularity in certain countires as most sites only show "general" and/or USA ratings - which I assume to be one and the same tbh so i'm just going off of name origins rather than popularity.
anyway, going into this one i expected Allison to be american 100%.
Allison -
Wikipedia:
Alison is primarily a female given name in English-speaking countries. It was originally a medieval French nickname for Alis, an old form of Alice derived with the suffix -on or -son sometimes used in the former French nicknames such as Jeanson ("little Jean") or Pierson ("little Pierre").
The name is first recorded in Scotland in the 12th century. It was popular until the early 19th century and, spelled Allison, was the 45th most common name given to baby girls in the United States in 2005
Allison also has separate, disputed roots as a family name.
Allison is a surname of English and Scottish origin. It was a patronym, in most cases probably indicating son of Allen, but in other cases possibly from Ellis, Alexander, or the female given name Alice/Alise.
The surname was first recorded in England in 1248, when a "William Alisun" is recorded in the Documents of the Abbey of Bee in Buckinghamshire. In Scotland, the earliest record dates from 1296, when "Patrick Alissone, Count of Berwick" paid homage to the ruling council of Scotland in the absence of a proclaimed king.
behindthename.com:
Allison:
From the middle of the 20th century this has primarily been used as a variant of the feminine name Alison.
Alison:
Norman French diminutive of Aalis (see Alice). It was common in England, Scotland and France in the Middle Ages, and was later revived in England in the 20th century via Scotland.

From the Old French name Aalis, a short form of Adelais, itself a short form of the Germanic name Adalheidis (see Adelaide). This name became popular in France and England in the 12th century. It was among the most common names in England until the 16th century, when it began to decline. It was revived in the 19th century.
Adelaide:
Means "noble type", from the French form of the Germanic name Adalheidis, which was composed of the elements adal "noble" and heid "kind, sort, type". It was borne in the 10th century by Saint Adelaide, the wife of the Holy Roman emperor Otto the Great.
honestly, i still think she's american in canon but i'm very interested in the concept of scottish allison. it kind of catches you by surprise bc she doesn't look or sound typically scottish and that kind of makes me even more interested in her possibly finding her roots??
i quite like how the origin for Allison is a pet name, especially that it's something as demeaning as "little". it makes her sound like less of a threat, which was probably how she operated as a member of the umbrella academy, sidling up to the crooks and looking like an innocent little girl then rumouring them. it could also be a reference to how reginald saw her, an immature little girl. or it could be how grace saw her, as a little girl, and not as a soldier or a model or a superhero or a celebrity.
i think it's interesting to note that her name, as a surname, has "disputed" roots, seeing as her family life is one of the more complicated ones in the show.
Allison is also a patromym, a name derived from the father/male ancestor. possibly relating to Allison's self-worth being tied to her father as he encouraged her over-use of her powers. also pretty relevant considering allison's arcs have all been devoted to another person/ideal with luther and vanya being her focus in season 1 and ray and the american civil rights movement.
interestingly the first scottish record is of a Patrick Alissone. either this is a really freaky coincidence or Way & Ba used this guy as an inspiration for Allison and her ex-husband Patrick's names. also vaguely interesting is that this Patrick Alissone was honouring the Scottish council which had no king, similar to how Allison didn't return home or have much consideration of her family's feelings/situations until after her father's death.
allison's name meaning is "noble type" or "noble" or "kind, sort, type"
this is probably referencing how she 'nobly' tries to help her siblings sort through their traumas (Vanya and Luther especially). her trying to right the wrongs she made with claire could also be considered noble. her involvement in the civil rights movement could also be considered noble too. it could also be referencing how she's got a bit of a rich person/important person aura going on. you can kind of tell that she's used to the finer things in life just by looking at the way she holds herself - like a noble. i think the fandom is also pretty much agreed that she is very kind also. she can be very gentle with five, vanya, klaus and presumably ben too.
--
so to conclude, yeah, i think allison is probably the american of the bunch, though it would be cool to look at a scottish angle for her country of origin. i don't really have a specific area to suggest. i guess that new england in particular would have been popular for scottish emigration since it was a) one of the only lands that was available and b) the closest to western europe's climate. tho dallas, texas would be an interesting twist.
anyway, the popularity charts are once again limited to basically just america so...
allison was ranked 80/1000 for popularity in 2020
it was ranked 45/1000 in 1989 (more or less confirming that she's american as steve blackman said grace helped them choose based on the countries popular names, and allison squarely makes it into the top 50 names in america at the time)
and 44/1000 in 2002 (the year five disappeared, presumably the year the umbrella academy debuted and the latest date allison would have been given her name as ben & vanya 100% had theirs already + the figurines/comics in harold's apartment had everyone's names except for five)
it was less popular in 1963 when it was ranked as 230/1000

Alice and Claire
It's you. You then and you now. You are here and you are there. ... You. It's all about you. (Jekyll BBC, 2007)
Alice, a woman of the past, the old, victorian world and Claire, a woman of the present, the modern world. Both of one kind, related but not quite, completely identical but not twins (it’s never twins) ... It’s a story that sounds a bit familiar. Somthing similar happens with Sister Agatha and Zoe Van Helsing in Dracula BBC. The same actress plays characters who look like twins but live more than a century appart. And in the Sherlock BBC special episode The Abominable Bride, it is Sherlock, who travells back in time to victorian London ... a man both here and there.
The solution to the puzzle in Jekyll BBC literally lies in the genes, because the modern woman turns out to be an exact clone of the victorian woman. And then, there are the names - Alice and Claire - both names turn up repeatedly in more than one project created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
TBC below the cut ....
Alice
The name derives from the Old French name Aalis, short for Adelais (x), which is a short form of the Germanic Adalheidis, better known as Adelaide (composed of adal=noble and heid=kind/sort/type ... meaning noble type). The most prominent literary character with that name is Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland ... well known and repeatedly mentioned in connection with Sherlock BBC (x x x).
The very first person who comes to mind in Sherlock BBC is, of course, Lady Smallwood. This character is introduced as Lady Elizabeth in HLV but three episodes later, in TLD, her first name suddenly changes to Alicia. At least that’s what can be read on her business card. Additionally the lady shares some interesting similarities with Mummy Holmes (x x).

When Sherlock walks among the ‘Funny Gravestones’ in TFP, on one of the stones the name Alice Holmes is engraved. Apparently this woman died together with another person (maybe husband, maybe sibling) in 1818, both at a rather young age.

The name ‘Alice Holmes’ could very well be a reference to the lost and resurfaced silent movie ‘Sherlock Holmes’ from 1916, created by William Gillette who also starred in the leading role as the great detective. In this adaptation, based on the stage play of the same title and authorised by Arthur Conon Doyle himself, Gillette gave Holmes a love interest, shaped (very loosely) after Irene Adler. Doyle’s famous words "You may marry him, murder him, or do anything you like to him" derives from this adaptation. The love interest was renamed into Alice Faulkner .... which of course, would change into ‘Alice Holmes’ after a marriage (strongly suggested by the emotional film-kiss at the end of the story).

In October 2014 it was announced that a copy of that film had been discovered in a film archive in France. The French premiere of the restored film took place in January 2015, the US premiere followed in May. Among the patrons of the restauration are listed Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue.

For more detailed informations I can highly recommend this post by @heimishtheidealhusband .
Claire
This name is the French version of Clara .... and, although she has never appeared on screen so far, Clara is a frequently discussed character in Sherlock BBC because she is (most likely still) married to John Watson’s (equally invisible) sister Harry.
Clara and Harry split up three months ago and they’re getting a divorce.

Clara is part of Sherlock’s deductions regarding John’s phone in PILOT/ASIP, based on Holmes’ famous pocket watch deduction in ACDs novel The Sign of Four. As @shylockgnomes already pointed out in 2016 ('A high incidence of Katherines’) the name Clara (bright, clear, clean, pure) basically has the same meaning as Catherine.
In the early Christian era it became associated with the Greek ‘katharos’ (pure), and the Latin spelling was changed from Katerina to Katharina to reflect this.
Clara could very well be a Catherine hiding in plain sight, one might say. Reason enough to take more than one look at her, because the name Catherine (in a number of variations) turns up eight times throughout the whole story ... nine times if one counts CAT, the gun in HLV (a brand of that name doesn’t even exist). To sum it up once more:
Clara, John’s sister in law (ASIP)
Karen, the woman murdered by her boyfriend/husband Barry ‘Bezza’ Berwick in Minsk (TGG)
Kate, Irene’s PA (ASIB)
Kitty Riley, investigative journalist for the SUN who wrote the exposé about Sherlock (TRF)
Cath, Mary’s briefly mentioned friend (TEH)
Kate Whitney, the desperate mum of a drug addict who wants to find her son (HLV)
CAT, the gun which Sherlock assumes to be the weapon used to murder him (HLV)
Helen Catherine Driscoll, underaged pen pal of Lord Smallwood before his marriage with Elizabeth/Alicia and reason for his suicide (HLV)
Catherine - the name John would like to give to his daughter but Mary disagrees and chooses Rosamund instead (TST)
As @shylockgnomes pointed out in the above mentioned post from 2016, the etymology of the name ‘Katherine’ can be debated: it could also derive from the Greek name Hekaterine, which comes from hekateros ... meaning “each of the two”.
But what does that imply? Two of something? But it’s ‘never twins’ Did I accidentally stumble upon a hidden secret? A girl or woman who is hidden. One of a pair? To paraphrase Sherlock (shylockgnomes)
And then Series Four happened and Eurus entered the stage in TFP and puzzle pieces started to fall into place. It looks like you really stumbled right into the centre of the mystery, @shylockgnomes :) Because in Sherlock BBC the meaning of two/double/pair/twin seems to be a key factor in understanding the story (PairsTwinsDoubleOhhhs)
Each of the two main characters have sisters who are mistaken for brothers by the respective other man when they are first mentioned in their presence.
JOHN: Harry and me don’t get on, never have. Clara and Harry split up three months ago and they’re getting a divorce; and Harry is a drinker. SHERLOCK: Spot on, then. I didn’t expect to be right about everything. JOHN: And Harry’s short for Harriet. (ASIP)
.....
JOHN: Sherlock’s not your only brother. There’s another one, isn’t there? MYCROFT: No. JOHN: Jesus! A secret brother! What, is he locked up in a tower or something? (TLD)
Each of the two sisters have male names. Harriet was shortened into Harry (the name of Dr John Watson’s brother in canon) and Eurus is the Greek name of the God of the East Wind, who is very male as @gosherlocked pointed out here.
Each of the two sisters stay invisible for the majority of the story. Eurus appears only by the end of the (for now) penultimate episode. Harry is still a faceless presence and exists on screen only in short references. A good place to remember Mycroft’s advice in The Sign of Three:
SHERLOCK: For one person to be in both groups ... could be a coincidence. MYCROFT: Oh, Sherlock. What do we say about coincidence? SHERLOCK: The universe is rarely so lazy.
Two problematic sisters who are both called by a male name, who appear rarely or not at all on screen and are mistaken for a brother by the best friend of their sibling. And one of those sisters is (maybe still) married to a woman called Clara ... meaning ‘bright, clear, pure, (incandescent?) .... the same as Catherine ... which might also mean ‘each of the two’. What would the universe say to this case?
Alice, Claire & Catherine
In Jekyll BBC everything circles around the characters Alice and Claire. It’s not some mysterious potion ... it’s the potion of love, the chemistry of love, which rises Hyde, the ‘monster’, in Jekyll. “It's you, it’s all about you ....”
Alice, Clara, Catherine (different versions and meanings of this name) seem to play an important, though still mysterious, role in Sherlock BBC. And what's the main theme of this story? In TFP Mycroft says: “This is all about you (Sherlock). Everything here ...... So who loves you?”
This leaves Dracula BBC. Are there characters included in that story too, named Alice, Clara or Catherine? Unsurprisingly .... yes! There are Alice and Kathleen (a variation of Catherine). Both characters appear in The Dark Compass.
Alice is one of the girls who accompany Lucy Westenra in the pink limousine on her hen night. She sits opposite Lucy, next to Zev. Alice is the only one of the girls who, like Zev, interacts repeatedly with Lucy.

Kathleen is the wife/life partner of Bob, the man who gets bitten and locked up in the fridge by Dracula. The Count watches a movie about elephants in Kathleen’s house before Zoe Van Helsing and her team are able to take him captive.

And then there is the Dracula-canon ‘Catherine’ ... she’s a ship
There we find that only one Black-Sea-bound ship go out with the tide. She is the Czarina Catherine, and she sail from Doolittle’s Wharf for Varna, and thence on to other parts and up the Danube. (Bram Stoker’s Dracula)
Czarina is the female version of Czar, the Russian equivalent of Emperor, derived from the Roman ‘Caesar’. This ship can only be named after the famous Russian Empress Catherine the Great.
Count Dracula travels on the Demeter from Varna (Bulgaria) to England and then, after his plans faile, he boards the Czarina Catherine in London. This ship brings the vampire back to Galatz (Galati) in Romania. That’s a port town on the Danube about 80km from the Black Sea. From here he tries to return to his castle in Transylvania.
And that’s exactly the point where the stories told in Bram Stoker’s Dracula und in Dracula BBC are linked. In the original story the ‘Czarina Catherine’ brings Dracula to the mouth of the Danube from which the Count takes the same escape route as Jonathan Harker in Dracula BBC. They travel in opposite directions though. Bram Stoker’s Dracula flees from the sea TO the castle while Jonathan Harker falls into the river and is born FROM the castle to the sea. Two characters ... one escape route. (‘The river bore you out to the sea’)
It’s a hidden link. One becomes only aware of it, if one knows the original story. Therefore it might not be a very relevant link after all. Who knows. But surely, there are people in this world who simply are in love with a certain type of story which they tell over and over again and who also have a great affinity for certain names. :)
