In The Breeze Of The Autumn Leaves - Bonus Chapter (6) - Dewdrop and Juno
Tumblr media
Read here or on AO3
A little something extra that I wanted to add for this week :). Very very fluffye (so you guys get a break from the angst) No trigger warnings that I can think of. Very Short ficlet I suppose.
Summary: Dewdrop and Aether take care of Juno while you're in hospital.
Dewdrop never thought he was good with animals. At least, not until he met Juno.
It started when Copia came running outside one morning, disheveled and slightly panicked. The Water Ghoul had just been enjoying a moment of peace by the fountain when the Cardinal hurried over, out of breath, his eyes wide with desperation.
“Dew! Dew, I need a favour!” Copia panted, waving his hands around dramatically.
Dewdrop raised an eyebrow, already skeptical. “If this is about another ridiculous errand for your rats—”
“No, no! This is serious!” Copia interrupted, wringing his hands. “One of my friends… they’re in the hospital, and I—well—could you take care of their dog for a while?”
Dewdrop blinked, utterly flabbergasted. “Over my dead body.”
“Please?” Copia’s tone wavered between pleading and urgent.
Dewdrop sighed, shaking his head. “Can’t you ask Omega? He’s better with all that soft, fluffy nonsense.”
Copia threw his hands in the air. “Cazzo, Dew! Terzo is out of town, and Omega is with him!”
A heavy silence hung between them before Dewdrop groaned. "Fine, fine. I’ll do it. But you owe me big for this one."
________
The first day Dewdrop walked into the unfamiliar apartment, he spotted her—Juno. A golden labrador, stretched out lazily on the floor, her big, beady eyes blinking up at him with cautious curiosity. A small silver tag on her collar read “Juno.” Her tail gave a tentative wag as if she wasn’t quite sure what to make of this new arrival.
Dewdrop sighed, crouching down to her level, his hand hovering awkwardly above her head. “Alright, Juno,” he murmured, “I’m not great at this, but I suppose we’re stuck together for a bit.”
Juno sniffed his hand for a moment before nudging into it, her tail wagging a little faster now. Dewdrop felt a small smile tug at his lips, the connection blooming in the quiet room. “Guess we’re friends now, huh?” he chuckled, scratching behind her ears.
Feeling a little less apprehensive, Dewdrop stood and surveyed the apartment. A plush dog bed sat in the corner, toys scattered haphazardly on the floor, and a food bowl sat near the kitchen. A part of him felt bad for the dog. She had no idea why her owner wasn’t around, and Dewdrop could sense the loneliness in her.
“Well, let’s start with breakfast,” Dewdrop muttered, heading over to the counter. He found a bag of kibble but paused, staring at it in confusion. “How much of this am I even supposed to give you?”
Juno, of course, offered no advice, simply staring up at him with expectant eyes.
At that moment, Aether strolled into the apartment, glancing at Dewdrop with an amused smile. “You look lost.”
“I am lost. How much does this dog eat?” Dewdrop grumbled, scratching his head in frustration. “I’m no good at this.”
Aether chuckled, pulling out his phone. “Let’s see… A labrador? Should be one and a half to two cups of kibble, twice a day.”
“You just googled that, didn’t you?” Dewdrop crossed his arms, smirking.
Aether pouted, feigning offense. “I’m trying to help! Would you rather guess and overfeed her?”
Rolling his eyes, Dewdrop measured out the kibble, giving Juno her breakfast. “Here you go, girl. Hope this is good enough for you.”
Juno dug in happily, her tail wagging like crazy as she devoured her meal. Dewdrop leaned back against the counter, relieved. “Alright, feeding’s handled. Now what?”
“She’ll need some exercise,” Aether chimed in, tossing Dewdrop a leash. “Think you can manage a walk?”
Dewdrop grunted, eyeing the leash skeptically. “I’m not walking her. We’ll just… improvise.” ________
Later, Dewdrop found himself standing in a nearby park with Juno by his side, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. The second he unclipped her leash, she went berserk, bounding around him in circles like she had limitless energy.
“Catch me if you can!” Dewdrop yelled, sprinting ahead, waving his arms dramatically like a child.
Juno barked excitedly and bolted after him, her golden fur a blur as she chased him down. Dewdrop darted between trees, jumped over bushes, and Juno kept right up with him, her excitement contagious.
“Alright, alright! Let’s see how you handle this!” Dewdrop skidded to a stop and grabbed a stick from the ground. “Fetch!” He hurled it into the distance, and Juno took off like a rocket, her focus laser-sharp.
When she returned, her mouth proudly clutching the stick, Dewdrop grinned. “Nice work, girl. But now, let’s really have some fun.”
With a flick of his fingers, Dewdrop conjured small, shimmering streams of water that danced through the air, zigzagging around them. Juno’s eyes lit up, her barking excited as she leapt after the water, snapping at the playful trails.
Dewdrop laughed, watching her bound through the streams like a puppy. “You like that, huh?” He twisted his wrist, and the water spun into hoops and spirals. Juno darted through them, splashing in every puddle, her joy infectious.
“Let’s see if you can handle this,” Dewdrop said with a mischievous smirk. He raised his hands and conjured a small water fountain that bubbled up from the grass. Juno immediately darted over, lapping up the cool water with her tongue, her tail wagging like a propeller.
Dewdrop collapsed onto the grass, watching her with a satisfied grin. “I’ll admit, you’re not half bad, Juno.”
Juno trotted over, plopping down beside him, her head resting on his arm. Dewdrop chuckled and stroked her wet fur, the weight of the day slipping away in the warmth of their shared moment.
Aether stood a few feet away, watching the whole scene with a bemused expression. “You’re surprisingly good at this, Dew.”
Dewdrop rolled his eyes, though his grin remained. “Don’t get used to it. This was a one-time thing.”
Juno, sensing Dewdrop’s sarcasm, gave a soft huff, licking his face again in appreciation.
“Ugh, okay, okay, maybe two times.” Dewdrop laughed, wiping his face as he leaned back, the sun sinking below the horizon. He gave Juno a side glance and sighed softly. “Alright, fine. I guess you’re kinda growing on me.”
Juno barked happily, as if to say, “I knew you’d come around.

More Than Meets the Eye: A Guide to Dog Collars
Tumblr media
For our canine companions, collars are more than just a fashion statement. They're a vital piece of equipment, serving multiple purposes throughout a dog's life. From playful puppyhood to adventurous adulthood, the right collar can ensure your dog's safety, comfort, and identification.
But with a seemingly endless variety of materials, styles, and features available, choosing the perfect collar can feel overwhelming. Fear not, pet parents! This comprehensive guide will delve into the fascinating world of dog collars, equipping you with the knowledge to navigate the options and select the ideal collar for your furry friend.
Fit for a Fido:  Selecting the Right Collar Size
A proper fit is paramount when it comes to dog collars. An ill-fitting collar can be uncomfortable for your dog, potentially causing chafing, rubbing, or even difficulty breathing. Here's how to ensure a snug yet comfortable fit:
Measure Up!  Use a soft measuring tape to measure your dog's neck. Leave enough space to comfortably slip two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck. A general rule of thumb is to add two inches to the neck measurement for most collars, but this can vary depending on the style.
Puppy Growth Spurts:  For puppies, remember to factor in growth! Choose a collar that's adjustable or consider purchasing a few different sizes to accommodate their rapid development.
Checking the Fit:  Once you have the collar, put it on your dog and ensure it fits snugly but comfortably. You should be able to slide two fingers under the collar, but it shouldn't be loose enough for your dog to slip out of it.
A Material Menagerie:  Exploring Collar Choices
Dog collars come in a variety of materials, each with its own advantages and considerations:
Leather:  A classic choice, leather collars are known for their durability, timeless style, and ability to soften and mold to your dog's neck over time.  However, leather requires regular cleaning and conditioning to maintain its quality and can be susceptible to moisture damage.
Nylon:  A popular and affordable option, nylon collars are lightweight, water-resistant, and come in a vast array of colors and patterns.  They're easy to clean and maintain, making them a good choice for active dogs who love to get dirty.
Biothane:  This eco-friendly material offers a similar look and feel to leather but is waterproof, odor-proof, and easier to clean. Biothane collars are a great option for dogs who frequent the water or tend to get messy.
Mesh:  A breathable and lightweight option, mesh collars are ideal for hot weather or dogs with sensitive skin.  They allow for good air circulation and prevent chafing, but might not be as durable as other materials.
Metal:  Primarily used for choke chains and prong collars, metal collars are not generally recommended for everyday use.  They can be harsh on your dog's fur and throat and should only be used with caution and under professional guidance.
Beyond Materials:  Popular Collar Styles
The world of dog collars offers a variety of styles to suit your dog's needs and your personal preferences. Here are some of the most common types:
Buckle Collars:  The most popular style, buckle collars are simple, adjustable, and easy to put on and take off.  They come in various materials and are suitable for most dogs.
Martingale Collars:  These collars tighten slightly when your dog pulls on the leash, providing a gentle reminder without choking.  They're a good option for dogs who tend to pull or for training purposes.
Head Collars:  Head collars attach to a harness that goes around your dog's snout.  They can be helpful for dogs who pull excessively on leash walks, but they require proper fitting and training to ensure comfort and safety.
Harnesses:  While not technically collars, harnesses offer an alternative way to walk your dog.  They distribute pressure evenly across your dog's chest and back, reducing strain on their neck.  Harnesses are a good option for dogs with breathing problems, neck injuries, or those who pull heavily on the leash.
Safety First:  Essential Collar Features
Beyond comfort and style, some essential features can enhance your dog's safety and security:
Identification Tag:  This is non-negotiable!  Every dog collar should have an ID tag with your dog's name, phone number, and rabies tag securely attached.
Reflective Material:  For added visibility during nighttime walks, choose a collar with reflective stitching or add a reflective attachment.
Quick Release Buckle:  This type of buckle allows for easy removal of the collar in case of emergencies.
Medical Alert Tags:  If your dog has any medical conditions or allergies, consider a medical alert tag to inform others in case of an emergency.
Fashion Meets Function: A Collar for Every Pup
Dog collars are no longer just about practicality. Today, they come in a vast array of colors, patterns, and embellishments to suit your dog's unique personality and your personal style.  Here are some fun options to consider:
Personalized Collars:  Have your dog's name or a fun message embroidered onto their collar for a touch of personalization.
Designer Collars:  Luxury brands offer designer collars made with high-end materials and unique embellishments.
Matching Sets:  Coordinate your dog's collar with a matching leash or harness for a put-together look.
Seasonal Collars:  Get into the festive spirit with seasonal collars featuring holiday themes or fun summer patterns.
Puppy Power:  Choosing a Collar for Your Little Furball
Puppies require special considerations when it comes to collars.  Here's what to keep in mind:
Start Small, Go Big:  As puppies grow rapidly, a collar that fits perfectly today might be too small tomorrow.  Opt for an adjustable collar or consider purchasing a few different sizes to accommodate their growth spurts.
Soft Materials:  Choose a soft, comfortable material like nylon or mesh to avoid irritating your puppy's delicate skin.
Lightweight Design:  A bulky collar can be cumbersome for a playful puppy.  Opt for a lightweight design that won't weigh them down.
Beyond the Collar:  Essential Leash Considerations
A collar is only half the equation when it comes to walking your dog safely.  Here are some factors to consider when choosing a leash:
Length:  The ideal leash length depends on your walking style and your dog's needs.  For training walks, a shorter leash (around 6 feet) offers more control.  For relaxed walks or exploring off-leash areas, a longer leash (around 15 feet) provides more freedom.
Material:  Leashes come in various materials like nylon, leather, or chain.  Nylon leashes are lightweight and affordable, while leather leashes offer a classic look and more durability.  Chain leashes are generally not recommended for everyday use as they can be heavy and uncomfortable for your dog.
Matching the Set:  Many collars come with matching leashes for a coordinated look.
Training Makes Perfect:  Using Your Collar Effectively
A collar is a valuable tool for training and communication with your dog.  Here are some tips for using it effectively:
Positive Reinforcement:  Pair the collar with positive experiences like walks, playtime, or treats.  This will help your dog associate the collar with something enjoyable.
Leash Training:  Use the leash attached to the collar to gently guide your dog during leash training sessions.  Reward good behavior with praise and treats.
Never Use the Collar for Punishment:  The collar should be a positive association for your dog, not a punishment tool.  Avoid jerking or yanking on the leash, as this can damage your dog's neck and hinder training progress.
A Lifetime of Love:  Maintaining Your Dog's Collar
Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring your dog's collar stays comfortable, safe, and functional.  Here's how to keep it in top shape:
Regular Cleaning:  Wash your dog's collar regularly according to the care instructions for the specific material.  This will remove dirt, grime, and allergens that can irritate your dog's skin.
Inspect for Damage:  Routinely check your dog's collar for signs of wear and tear, such as frayed edges, loose stitching, or broken buckles.  Replace any damaged collars immediately to prevent safety hazards.
Strength Test:  For large dogs or those who pull heavily on the leash, occasionally test the strength of the collar and leash to ensure they can withstand the pressure.
Choosing the Perfect Collar: It's All About Your Dog
With a seemingly endless variety of options available, selecting the right collar for your dog might seem daunting. But remember, the perfect collar is the one that prioritizes your dog's comfort, safety, and needs.  Consider their size, breed, activity level, and personality when making your choice.  With a little research and these helpful tips, you can find the ideal collar that will accompany your furry friend on all their adventures, big and small.
A Watchful Protector: For The Progression Of The Ages
Mastiffs, gentle giants with ancient roots, come in various breeds. Loyal guardians with calm temperaments, they require ample space, training, and experienced owners due to their size and strength. Though some breeds have wrinkles, all Mastiffs offer a lifetime of devotion.

7 Essential Things to Pack for Your Pet’s Boarding Stay
Tumblr media
Needless to say, leaving your pet to a pet boarding facility is stressful but if you can take care of what your pet may need, it can make its stay comfortable and less stressful. From their first time packing up for them to a regular visit, you can pack the right items that will help them ease their anxiety and be relatively in familiar territory. These seven must be all you pack for your pet’s boarding stay.
Food and Treats
Most of the pet boarding facilities usually provide food for you, soo if you allow the sudden dietary change, it can upset your pet’s stomach. They pack their usual food so that they do not stray away from their routine and digestion remains normal. Don’t forget their favorite treats! Treats are also very rewarding and can be used as a comfort after a negative outcome.
Medications and Supplements
Additionally, be sure to bring your pet’s medication and any supplements alongside with clear instructions for the dosage and timing. There are facilities that have trained staff to give medication, but it is always better to mark everything. Any syringes, pill pockets or measuring spoons that might be needed should be included for convenience’s sake.
Favorite Toys and Comfort Items
While alone, they may become a little fearful of leaving. Your familiar toy, blanket or even a piece of clothing can help reduce stress and provide comfort while they are not in the house. Lots of pets find a new environment stressful, and something that smells familiar can be wonderfully reassuring. Ask your pet boarding facility if they allow any personal items for your pet.
Collar, Leash, and ID Tags
Despite the number of steps security measures take while your pet is being boarded, it’s still always a good idea for your pet to have identification. A stern collar with an ID tag with your information should be packed. It is essential to walk or play outdoor time with a leash; facilities require a harness to add extra safety.
Bedding or Crate
Many pet boarding centres offer bedding, but bringing your pet’s bed or crate to its current place can make it feel more comfortable. It’s a familiar sleeping space, a provider of security, and speeds up the settling-in process. If your pet is crate trained, bring them in their crate and keep their normal sleeping routine can rely on the crate to make this happen.
Emergency Contact Information
It is very important, and you must not avoid or ignore it. Daycare administrators find this information extremely important when they notice something unusual in a pet. You should provide the information in detail, including the demographic address and emergency contact numbers. Many dog boarding firms make this mandatory, as they need it at any time.
Updated Vaccination Records
Providing this information to the pet is important! You must understand its significance. Many leading pet boarding centres in Toronto and North York need this information to confirm there are no current health issues. They do the needful if they find things are not updated. If not all, they require up-to-date vaccination records to place all of their pets in a safe, healthy environment. Iso, next time when you plan to drop your pet at the pet daycare, make sure you have provided this information with utmost care. You can at least provide its kit with a duplicate copy of the document, if not the original.
Final Thoughts
By packing thoughtfully for the pet’s boarding stay, you will ensure that they have a comfortable and stress-free stay. Preparation of your pet’s travel bag should take into consideration that every pet is different. A well-packed bag can provide the pets with their happy time in the pet boarding facility as well as make s you feel less worried when you are away. So, you must check if you have provided all these things to your pet before you take it to the pet boarding centre next time.

Weighted dog vest: How to pick the right one
New Post has been published on https://dogreviews.us/weighted-dog-vest-how-to-pick-the-right-one/
Weighted dog vest: How to pick the right one
Are you looking for a weighted dog vest? You are in the right place. This article will review weight vests for dogs available in the market.
You may have seen a dog wearing a piece of cloth and think it is just a cloth for attaching a leash, but it could be a dog-weighted vest. Weight vests for dogs have two primary uses. They can be used to build dog muscles and burn excess calories, especially if the dog is overweight.
Another use of a dog weight vest is to tire the dog so that when you arrive home, it remains calm. It is also important to note that dog vests cannot be used with dogs under two years old. The reason is that additional weight on a younger dog can lead to joint and muscle problems.
Large breed dogs like pit bulls and Rottweilers are the ones that primarily use weighted shirts for dogs; however, it is recommendable to use other dog breeds to build their muscles and make them strong.
Here is a quick preview of the best weight vest for dogs
What to look for in a weighted dog vest?
You must be careful when buying weighted dog collars like Dog Training Collars. Keep the following in mind before making a purchase.
Your dog size- Ensure you get an adjustable vest that can be resized to fit your dog. You can first measure your dog with a tape measure to get your dog’s actual size. Ensure the vest fits and does not strain the dog.
Weights for dogs-Buy enough dog weights that will challenge him but will not injure him. The weight should be 10-20% of the dog’s body weight.
Padding material: A good weight vest for a dog should be made of padded material so that the vest can be comfortable for your dog. An excellent padded vest will help to protect your dog from injuries during training.
It is evenly distributed in multiple pockets. Look for a vest with numerous pockets to add more weight whenever needed. The pockets must be evenly distributed to ensure the weight does not concentrate in one area of the dog’s body, causing injuries.
Dog weight vest detailed review
Xdog vest
The Xdog weight vest is a fitness dog vest that can help improve dog health. This vest can help you achieve the goal of having a physically fit dog because it increases dog performance when exercising.
In addition, the Xdog vest can help calm and reduce anxiety in different situations the dog encounters. If you are looking for the best dog weight vest, I recommend the Xdog vest because it is made for all dog breeds, e.g., Rottweilers, pit bulls, Labradors, German Shepherds, etc.
Why Xdog is the best dog weight vest
Several reasons make Xdog stand out from other weighted dog vests. For example
Unlike other weight vests using metal bar weights, they have safe and comfortable weight bags you can fill with sand.
It is m
ade using material that is lightweight, durable, and breathable.
The vest is waterproof so that you can exercise in any weather.
Weights are adequately placed to avoid spine injuries.
Suitable for all dog breeds.
Comfortable fit the dog and remains in place during the training.
Leerburg Weighted Dog Vest
The Leerburg dog vest designers had two goals in their mind, i.e., build muscle and make the dog stronger through exercising. Another goal is to ensure excess energy in aggressive dogs is burnt.
These dog vests are made using heavy fabric. The underside of the vest, upper back, and shoulder are lined with faux sheepskin, which makes it comfortable.
What makes the Leerburg dog vest stand out from the rest
The vest has individual pockets where you can add 1-pound weight.
The number of pockets in each vest varies; you can pick a vest with ten pockets, which can take ten weights for more muscular big dogs. Others have eight pockets. It is recommended that the vest be introduced to the dog without any weights.
This vest was designed with dog safety in mind.
Onetigris dog vest
The Onetigris tactical dog vest is for pet owners who love taking their dogs for walks. If you always have to carry dog treats and water, One Tigris dog vest makes it easy for you and your dog.
The vest has detachable pouches. You can add dog food and other treats inside these pouches, adding some weight to the vest while still making your walk comfortable since your hands are free.
The vest is made of soft material that cannot hurt your dog’s fur. This vest is the best for outdoor activities like jogging, running, hunting, and hiking.
Why you should choose One Tigris dog vest
Easy to get on and off the dog.
It is made using 1000D nylon.
It has three detectable pouches for carrying dog treats.
The Interior is mesh; therefore, it is more comfortable and well-ventilated.
It has a metal leash clip and handles for effective dog control.
ICEFANG Tactical Dog Vest
Icefang works closely with pet owners, dog trainers, and lovers to meet customer needs. All their new products are tested by customers first before production begins. This is why the ICEFANG Tactical Dog Vest is one of the best dog weights for pit bulls. One year ago, before my pit bull (Brutus) died, I bought this vest, and it was perfect for walking and jogging with him.
Key Features
It is made using 1050D nylon.
The outer coat is water-resistant.
It has soft, padded, ventilated mesh.
It is a durable handle that is large enough, therefore, easy to grab the harness while walking the dog.
Custom-fit, therefore, does not rub dog fur.
Ruffwear Approach Dog Backpack
The approach Pack is for pet owners who love to travel with their dogs. The vest has a saddlebag, carrying essentials needed during a hiking trip. It uses durable, lightweight material and padded to make it comfortable on the dog’s back.
It also comes with an integrated harness with reflective trim, allowing you to monitor your dog’s movement in a foggy or dusty environment. The Ruffwear backpack also has non-slip straps that are easy to adjust and secure. The pads also disperse the load, making it easy and comfortable for the dog to lift.
Canine Weighted Dog Vest
This is one of the heaviest and most effective weighted dog vests available. It’s twice as heavy as other vests. The sandbags are 2 lbs. Unlike others, the weights are included in the vests, which require metal pellets to make them heavy.
Canine Vest Features:
The weight is distributed evenly in the front and back of the legs to build maximum strength.
Weights in the outside pockets do not touch the dog’s body to ensure the dog has coordinated and balanced movement.
It has a padded strap for comfort on the dog’s torso.
It helps in improving dog health and strength.
Importance of dog weights vest
Weight lifting in the gym builds muscles and is an excellent form of exercise that relieves stress. The same applies to dogs. Below are the benefits of using weight vests in dogs.
It helps to calm extra-active dogs.
If you have difficulty keeping up with your active dog, which keeps dragging you while taking a walk, adding extra weight on their back will help slow him. The weight will also help him build muscles and exercise.
Help to calm anxious dogs.
Does your dog get anxious in situations that he should not be? For example, jumping when they see a visitor? Adding extra weight to his back can help keep him calm in any situation that makes him anxious.
Increases dog exercise
If your canine friend is obese, consider buying a weight vest. Running your dog while wearing a weight vest can help burn excess fat and get him back on a healthy track again.
Correcting dog bad behavior
Dog aggression, destruction, and other unwanted behaviors go hand in hand and can be corrected by exercising your dog to tire him and make him sleepy when idle. Adding a weight vest ensures you push the dog to its threshold, and he will not portray any unwanted behavior.
Improves function of dog cardiovascular system
If you do not take your dog out for walks daily, using weight vests can help strain his cardiovascular muscles for even a short walk. Therefore, your dog will have enough exercise despite taking fewer walks.

The Hidden Costs of Owning a Golden Retriever
Tumblr media
Golden Retrievers are one of the most beloved dog breeds in the United States and around the world. Their friendly and gentle nature, combined with their striking golden coat, makes them a popular choice for families and individuals alike. However, there's more to owning a Golden Retriever than their charming appearance and good-natured temperament. Beneath the surface, prospective dog owners should be aware of the hidden costs associated with bringing a Golden Retriever into their lives. One of the critical factors to consider is the Golden Retriever Price, which goes beyond the initial purchase cost.
The Initial Investment: Golden Retriever Price
When most people think of the cost of owning a Golden Retriever, they primarily consider the initial purchase price. The cost of a Golden Retriever puppy can vary significantly depending on various factors, including the breeder's reputation, the puppy's pedigree, and the region where you live. On average, a well-bred Golden Retriever puppy from a reputable breeder can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 or more. This is a substantial upfront expense, but it's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the total cost of Golden Retriever ownership.
Click here to know more : -
Regular Veterinary Care
Owning a Golden Retriever entails regular visits to the veterinarian, and these visits can add up over the dog's lifetime. Routine vaccinations, flea and tick prevention, heartworm medication, and other preventive care measures are essential for the well-being of your pet. In addition, Golden Retrievers are prone to certain health issues, including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and various eye conditions. These breed-specific health concerns may result in additional vet bills, potentially ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars.
Quality Food and Nutrition
Providing your Golden Retriever with high-quality dog food is crucial for their overall health and well-being. Quality dog food can be expensive, and the cost will depend on the brand and the size of your dog. Golden Retrievers are a larger breed and can eat a significant amount of food, especially in their growth and active stages. Expect to spend a few hundred dollars per year on dog food alone.
Grooming and Maintenance
Golden Retrievers have a luxurious double coat that requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and prevent matting. Grooming expenses include regular brushing, occasional professional grooming, and the cost of grooming tools and supplies. Additionally, you may need to invest in pet shampoos, conditioners, and other grooming products. These expenses can add up to several hundred dollars annually.
Training and Socialization
Proper training and socialization are vital for a Golden Retriever's well-adjusted behavior and development. Investing in puppy training classes or working with a professional dog trainer can be an ongoing expense. Training is not only about teaching basic commands but also addressing behavioral issues and ensuring your dog is a well-behaved member of your family.
Pet Insurance
Consider investing in pet insurance to help cover unexpected veterinary expenses. While pet insurance comes with a monthly premium, it can be a financial lifesaver in the event of a major illness or accident. The cost of pet insurance can vary based on the level of coverage and the age and health of your Golden Retriever.
Boarding and Pet-Sitting
If you travel frequently or need to be away from home, you'll need to arrange for care for your Golden Retriever. Boarding facilities and pet sitters can be costly, especially if you require extended stays or specialized care.
Toys and Accessories
Golden Retrievers are active and playful dogs. To keep them mentally and physically stimulated, you'll need to invest in toys, leashes, collars, crates, and other accessories. These costs can add up over the years.
Home and Yard Upkeep
Your home and yard may require some modifications to accommodate a Golden Retriever. This could include fencing for your yard, baby gates for certain areas of your home, and additional cleaning and maintenance expenses to deal with the inevitable shedding of their double coat.
The Emotional Investment
While not a financial cost, it's essential to consider the emotional investment of owning a Golden Retriever. These dogs thrive on human interaction and require a lot of attention, love, and companionship. You'll need to dedicate time to exercise, play, and bonding with your dog, which can be a significant commitment.
In conclusion
While the initial Golden Retriever Price may seem like the most substantial expense, it's only the beginning of the financial responsibilities associated with owning one of these wonderful dogs. Golden Retrievers are known for their loyalty, love, and companionship, but they also come with hidden costs that every prospective owner should be aware of. Before bringing a Golden Retriever into your home, it's crucial to assess your budget, lifestyle, and commitment to ensure that you can provide the love and care these dogs need and deserve. If you're willing to make the necessary investment, the rewards of sharing your life with a Golden Retriever can be immeasurable.

Smart Little Kitty
Cross Posted on AO3 under the same name
"Aizawa brings his kitten home, and things go better than he ever thought they would. So well, in fact, that he can't help but think that there's more to it."
Pairing: Shouta Aizawa x catgirl!reader
Content warnings: Yandere/soft yandere, mentions of kidnapping, mentions of stalking
Word count: 3.4k
part 2, part 3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s suspicious.
Very, very suspicious.
At first, it made sense. He would tell himself that you were in shock. That you were just trying to come to terms with where you were, then, being the smart little kitty that you are, you would come up with a plan to try and do what many people would do and make a run for it.
But you haven’t.
Truly, it’s a massive surprise that you haven’t so much as tried to make a bolt to the door. That you haven’t tried to catch him by surprise and pounce while his back is turned. Cats aren’t normally this docile, are they?
Shouta can’t complain. Really, he can’t.
It’d be a lie to say that he wasn’t pleased with the way that things have currently been going.
Just because he figured that you would try and get away as soon as you shook yourself out of your shock doesn’t mean that he wanted you to.
That’s why he took so many precautions.
He moved into a new apartment. A penthouse in one of the best areas in the city, with topnotch 24/7 security, so high up that trying to signal for help or jumping out of a window would be completely out of the question. He installed new windows, bulletproof and five layers thick (can never be too careful). All of the furniture in the room he would be keeping you in for as long as he deemed necessary was bolted to the floor, walls, or tables (apart from a chair or two, but those are too heavy for you to pick up and use as a weapon). The door to your room was custom ordered, with reinforced steel and three high security locks (he had the door painted white, a faux-wood design to look nice with the rest of your room). Shouta even went as far as getting you a collar. It’s not bulky, it looks like it could be one of those pretty choker necklaces. Made out of a leather, satin, and lace combination, it’s honestly adorable. The tracker in it isn’t even visible.
While it was tempting to add some other more traditional collar additions, mainly a metal ring to attach a leash (purely to supply him the opportunity to fulfil many of his dirty little fantasies), he doesn’t want to make you feel like a pet. You’re his kitten, but you’re not an animal, and you’re not supposed to be his pet. You’re the love of his life, his soulmate. Degrading you in such a way isn’t something he wants. Making you resent him for treating you like an animal instead of a human being is something he would like to avoid. So instead, he bought a different collar, for fun times later down the road.
These security measures aren’t his only safeguard. Shouta wants to make you realize that you’re safer with him than anyone else, that you’d be happier with him than anyone else.
Before bringing you home, he read up on a lot of articles on how to handle similar situations. Having the cat quirk that you do, he figured that you’d have some feline instincts. Treating your first interactions that way should make your integration into this new life of yours easier, shouldn’t it?
Everything was prepared. Your room was decorated with comfortable furniture, all of it styled in a way that he knew you would enjoy (he found your pinterest account and studied the entire ‘room decor’ board you have saved for a good reference point). There were certain amenities that he figured you would need, given your quirk, like the two tiered scratching post, large enough for a tiger, was positioned in front of one of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The closet was full of a whole range of clothes (again, many of them either inspired by or directly from one of your pinterest boards- ‘What I’d Wear If I Was Rich’). They were all tailored to your exact measurements (don’t ask how he got every one of your bodily dimensions down to the millimeter). He of course made sure that everything was comfortable, and would be fitting for any occasion (despite the fact that you won’t be allowed outside for a long time to even have a proper occasion to wear half of them. He just wanted to allow you the freedom to wear something nice in case you felt like dressing up). Dresses, skirts, jeans, sweaters, even those cute combinations of shorts and overalls.
All of the dishes that he had seen you enjoy while researching *cough* stalking *cough* you, he practiced. From cutesy sushi rolls to some of the western foods that you seem to like.
When you first woke up, tucked into the silk bed sheets of the bed inside of your room, you were scared. Rightfully so.
Shouta was sitting in one of the chairs that he had moved into your room, watching you intently but also very calm and patiently. As much as he wanted to hold you as you shook and your eyes filled with tears, breath increasing rapidly, he kept his distance, knowing that may exacerbate your state of panic.
His tone was low, intentionally soothing as he tried to talk you through some breathing exercises. When you eventually calmed down, Shouta explained to you where, who he was, and why you were there.
“My name is Shouta Aizawa, I’m the prohero Eraserhead,” he said slowly, still trying to ensure your current state of semi-peace. “I’m not going to hurt you, I promise. I brought you to my home so that I could keep you safe. You don’t need to be scared.” Shouta offered a small smile, eyes kind. He knew that him telling you to not be scared was in vain. Anyone in your position would be. Being a man of rationality and reason, he understands that. A strange man, whom you had probably seen only a handful of times at your job at the cat/maid café that you were employed at previous to him taking you home with him. It’s not like he doesn’t know what is probably going through your head. Proheros, especially underground ones, have dealt with enough abduction cases to know how terrible some people can be. But he wouldn’t do anything bad. Stealing you from your home in the middle of the night may have been… unorthodox, but he wouldn’t hurt you, he would try his best not to scare you, and he wouldn’t do anything without your consent. Besides the initial kidnapping, everything else would be on your terms.
As expected, you remained in a state of near-constant fear throughout the next few days.
The fluffy ears on top of your head stayed pinned flat against your head. Your tail remained erect and bristled. It was difficult for you to sleep, and he was tempted to offer you sleeping medication, but he knew that you wouldn’t want to. Just offering it could add to your distress.
That didn’t mean that it hurt his heart any less. Everytime that you flinched when he opened the door to your room, or whenever you shied away from his touch when he tried to give you a comforting pat on the head, or warily sniffed at whatever food or beverage he gave you with distrusting eyes aimed in his direction, he wished that he could do something more to get you to trust him. To eliminate the stress that you were currently experiencing.
But he knew that the only way to do that was to give you time to adjust.
And before adjusting, it would most likely take you realizing that running away would be a fruitless endeavor for you to really give this new peaceful life a chance. Shouta knew that he would be understanding.
If he was being honest with himself, he was curious to see how far you’d get. He’d probably be proud if you managed to get out of your room, perhaps to the front door. Possibly into the elevator or down to the lobby of the building. If you got to the street? And goodness, if you made it to the street? His heart would burst out of his chest, the pride in his little kitten would almost be too much to handle. And he knows that you could. His smart little kitten.
It’d work out quite well for both of you, actually. Like he told you when you first woke up, he’s not going to hurt you. Never raise a hand to you, never put you into any form of discomfort or pain (unless you wanted him to. If you’re a little masochistic, who’s he to keep you from that pleasure?). So punishments wouldn’t be harsh, they wouldn’t be something you should be scared of. The most he would do is take away one of the many gifts that he has provided you with. Mainly the stuffed animals that you seem to be rather attached to, like the oversized corgi that you seem to cling to when you get hit with a wave of anxiety.
You’d realize that you can’t escape, ultimately becoming more accepting of this new life you’d be living, and you’d notice how nice you have it. All the luxuries a woman could ask for and a doting lover (lover could be exchanged with a series of other titles- boyfriend, husband, soulmate, reason for existence. Whatever you prefer, really). So you’d have to sacrifice a bit of your freedom, but that’s just how it is. And whether you do accept him and your new life, you can’t do much about it, that will just change the nature of your relationship.
And yet you haven’t done anything.
A month and a half of living together and you haven’t so much as tried to leave your room.
He’s gotten to the point where he’s started giving you openings to run- ‘forgetting’ to close or lock the door when he enters or when he leaves your room to get another gift for you. When he comes back, you’re still there, curled up on your bed in one of the many soft blankets he’s given you, or on the loveseat in the corner of your room, looking out the window.
Shouta Aizawa, the analytical man that he is, can’t for the life of him figure out why.
It’s rather clear that you still don’t trust him. That much is visible through the way that you always make sure to sniff at your food to make sure that he’s not trying to drug you. But you’re also much more at ease than he thought you would be at this stage.
You allow him to cuddle with you, the both of you settle on your bed, you on top of him while he holds you to him. Spooning is also an option during these times. Occasionally his hands will go a little too high or too low on your torso and you’ll tense, probably expecting him to try and grope you or push you too far out of your comfort zone.
You also don’t dodge away from any of the forehead pecks that he gives you, or the head pats. Instead you simply sit there, ears moving just a little bit to avoid smacking his face or having his hand brush against them (they are extremely sensitive and you’re nearly afraid that if you scratches you behind the ear you’ll become a purring puddle of affection. That’s not something you’re at all ready for).
Most of the time, when the two of you spend time together, it’s quiet. The silence occasionally broken by him talking about his day, the students that he has to deal with or some of his friends that he refuses to call friends. But when it’s not that, it’s the two of you reading, or he’s put on a movie on the flatscreen that he installed on the wall across from your bed.
Right now, the two of you are reading, a companionable silence filling the room.
Well, you’re reading. He’s watching you, an intense, thoughtful expression on his face.
You’re trying to ignore him, though the longer that he continues to stare at you, the more you start to worry. There’s always a possibility of him changing his mind over what he wants from you. Of what he decides to do with you. Ever since you woke up here, he’s been nice. Respectful. But what happens when he decides that basic cuddling isn’t enough?
“Kitten?”
His voice breaks through your slowly growing fear, his tone low and raspy, as per usual.
“Hm?” You flick your eyes up to him over the book that you have lightly clenched in your hands.
“What game are you playing?” His question is a bit confusing, you genuinely having no idea what he’s talking about.
“...What do you mean?”
Shouta sits up from his leaning position against the abundance of pillows and stuffed animals stacked up against your headboard. “Why haven’t you tried running?”
Well he’s awfully blunt today.
“Did you… want me to try running?” your feline-like eyes narrow at him.
Your capture sighs. “No, of course not,” he scratches at his chin a little. “Rationally speaking, most people would have tried to run by now. I’m surprised that you haven’t yet.”
You blink at him. Was this a trap?
“You’re not in trouble, I just want to understand why you haven’t.”
Blowing out a heavy breath, you close you’re book and lay it to the side. “Well… what’s the point?”
Looking up at him, you see his head tilt a little, the hair that's pulled into a loose bun moving over to the side. “What’s the point...? Mind elaborating?”
Eyes moving down to your lap, your fingers toy with the hem of your sweatshirt (wow that’s soft). “Don’t get me wrong, I’ve thought about it. I’ve gone over the pros and cons of leaving, how I’d possibly do it, things that would vary in your favor versus mine… then I guess that I started to think about the pros and cons of staying.” As he would expect of his smart kitten, thinking about the facts before acting. Gosh could you get any more perfect?
“Could you tell me about that?” Shouta prompts gently, giving you the choice to reject him but… he really, really wants to hear your thought process.
Pursing your lips, you nod a little. “Well, if I tried to run, with the chance of success, I would be free. I would potentially be able to get back to my regular life. But then with the chances of failure…” you look up at him, cat eyes meeting his own. “You’ve been nice so far. You’ve respected me and you haven’t tried to hurt or force yourself on me. Which you said you wouldn’t, but there’s no way of me knowing how you’d start to act if I got you mad unless I actually did. That’s enough to make me hesitant to try and run. The factors that make this entire situation lean in your favor are enough to make the possibility of success on my part nearly nonexistent. You’re a prohero, an underground one, meaning that you have connections and experience in situations like these. You’d be able to find me, no matter how well I hide.
This apartment is about forty eight floors up, right? Getting to the ground floor would take a while, enough time for someone with the stamina that you undoubtedly have from your profession to catch up before I even get out of the building. The security cameras would be watching where I go, there would also most likely be cameras outside that would see which way I head. Then there’s street cameras that you would be able to track me by… but even if there weren’t cameras? You put this collar on me,” you tug at the lacy detailings on it. “I don’t know if it’s meant for tracking or if there’s some sort of shock technology, but i do know that there’s a reason for me wearing it. It would either stop me from getting away completely or make it incredibly easy for you to find me…” You heave a little sigh, ears drooping just a bit on your head while Aizawa just watches you. His eyes have gained a bit of an intensity. Every word that you say just makes his heart beat faster. Truly, the way that your mind works amazes him. For a civilian, you think clearly, able to analyze a situation well and come up with endless possibilities. One may call it overthinking due to anxiety, but he just thinks that it’s all endearingly perfect.
“So, you’d inevitably catch me. I don’t know what you would do to me, but you’re stronger than me. You’ve been trained to fight and restrain people who are ten times my size with quirks much stronger. The physical advantages you have over me are overwhelming, so if you wanted to do something to me… you could. I really don’t like that but it’s the truth of this situation…” you’ve started to unconsciously pick at the skin around your nails, but Shouta puts his hand over yours to stop you. “So once I started to feel kind of hopeless, I needed to make myself feel better… so… the pros and cons of living here.
“I have a roof over my head, with warm water and good food. You’ve given me nice clothes and a nice room. You don’t mistreat me, which… I don’t know if that’s just a temporary thing and you’ll get tired if I take too long to accept your feelings or if this is just how it’ll be but… it’s not bad right now. This is the best I’ve been living for a while. I mean, I used to have a dead-end job at a cafe, working minimum wage, while living in a crappy apartment on the bad side of town.” To say that Shouta was appalled when he saw your living conditions for the first time is an understatement. He had to force himself to not swoop in and rescue you from such a disgusting place so that he could properly set up a place for you. “I’m sure that I’m fired by now, and that my apartment has been given to someone else, so I wouldn’t even have anywhere to return, but I don’t even want to think about that honestly. So… yeah. I’m forced to live here. If you gave me the option to leave, I would take it, but… this isn’t that bad. It’s- it’s not bad having someone take care of me, so I guess I’ll just… accept things for how they are and deal with the situation that I’ve been put in.”
You stop talking. Your mind is reeling a little bit, a little scared for how he might react, and also a little upset with yourself that you even told him all of that. But what’s the point in keeping all of the inner workings of your brain a secret? Letting Shouta know that you don’t have any plans of escape isn’t going to make your situation any worse.
Meanwhile, Aizawa is thinking about how much thought you’ve put into this. How you’ve managed to come up with nearly every single detail to make your decision, and how you didn’t even have to physically try something to know that it wouldn’t work, just by going through the possible outcomes in your head. This is what he loves so much about you. You think. He doesn’t have to worry about you being irrational. Having you as his little safe haven, his smart little kitty, makes his life so easy, so enjoyable.
Holding your hands a little more firmly, Aizawa leans forward and give you a kiss on the forehead before pulling you into him and laying back down onto the bed, holding you close.
“I’m never going to hurt you, and I’m never going to do anything you don’t want me to do. I want to make you happy. Whenever you want my love, you can have it,” he says quietly, but very firmly. His heart has melted from your speech, that tender and insecure look in your eye making his initial instinct to take you home and keep you safe, and warm, and happy completely reinforced for the hundredth time since bringing you with him.
He’s willing to wait for you. To allow your feelings to develop for him. Anything to keep you happy.
His smart little kitty will realize that they’re made for each other eventually. There’s no rush.
2.2k on harry’s new puppy. the before and after of a clean break . goes from kinda angsty to fluffy (literally) to more angst, and then wraps up with fluffy fluff fluff.
Harry’s house felt empty.
It was empty, really, but it felt about a million more times empty than it ever had.
He couldn’t bear it.
He woke up in the morning and turned over to kiss you awake. He brushed his teeth and stared at the spot where your toothbrush went. He got changed and remembered where he’d gone with you while wearing that shirt; how you’d complimented those pants and teasingly mocked those socks. He made coffee and ignored the gaping hole where your mug used to go.
He was driving to the studio one morning, thinking about all of this - what song you’d have put on if you were in the car with him, how your hand would feel in his, what joke he’d say to hear your laugh - when he saw a pet adoption center.
All at once, the solution became clear.
A dog, he thought. I need a dog.
So he turned off the road, kind of in a daze, and walked inside. Barking, chirping, and soft music greeted him. He flipped his sunglasses up. The lady at the counter’s eyes widened, and then she smiled. “Hi!” she said brightly. “Can I help you?”
“Er… yes,” Harry said. He rocked back on his heels. “I’d like a dog, please.”
She smiled more. Harry saw her nametag. It said Holly. “Okay!” she said, coming around from behind the counter. “Follow me.” Harry put his hands in his pockets and followed her a few steps back into the shop, and then around a corner.
Dogs of every size, shape, and color lined the wall, separated by short, colorful barriers. The barking increased as the dogs noticed Harry and Holly. Harry felt a smile on his face as he looked around at all of them, up on hind legs, tongues lolling out of mouths.
“Here we are,” Holly said over the noise. She crouched down next to one, rubbing the dog’s ear. With her other hand, she pointed to a card attached to the barrier. “These have all their information,” she said.
Harry nodded, and started walking around. He kept his hands in his pockets and walked around the room. He scanned the cards, only stopping when he saw an anomaly. One dog, a puppy, by the look of it, was quiet. It wasn’t barking, wasn’t on its hind legs excitedly jumping up to greet Harry.
There wasn’t a card attached, either, so Harry turned around to look at Holly. She was preoccupied with another dog, petting him and laughing as he flopped over onto his back. “Hey, erm - this one have a card,” Harry said.
She looked up and then stepped over the barrier to walk over to him. “Oh, yeah, this little guy,” she said. “We just found him a few days ago. No collar, no chip or anything. We waited a little while for somebody to come and - you know, claim him, but it never happened.” She knelt down and scratched him behind the ear. “We don’t even know his name.”
“He’s quiet,” Harry said.
He was cute, too; golden and fluffy, and Harry thought he looked like a goldendoodle.
Holly looked up and smiled at him. “Yeah.”
“Can I - er, can I get him? Have him?”
“Sure!” Holly said. She got a collar and a leash from the wall behind Harry and clipped it onto the dog. “Wanna walk him up?” she asked, holding the leash out to Harry. He smiled and took it from her, and she opened the barrier to let him through.
The dog walked next to Harry, sniffing the floor and the walls and occasionally Harry’s pant leg as they headed back to the front desk. He sat down and watched Harry with big brown eyes as Harry filled out paperwork, and then trotted behind them as Holly showed Harry toys and dog food and beds everything Harry needed.
Soon enough, Harry was staring at the dog, sat peacefully on the passenger seat, looking out the window curiously. After a few seconds, the dog looked back at Harry, and Harry smiled because it almost looked like he was smiling, too.
“Right, then,” Harry said, patting the top of his head. “You need a name.” Harry twisted his keys in the ignition and started off towards home. “Marley,” Harry said, glancing over at the puppy.
No reaction.
“Alright,” Harry hummed. “How about… Bob.”
Still nothing.
Harry smiled. “So this’ll be a challenge, hm?” he asked. The dog lay down in the seat and sighed heavily, looking up at him. Harry laughed and rubbed his fluffy head. He suggested names the entire way home, but nothing seemed to stick.
When they got home, the puppy wandered around, sniffing every corner and inspecting each piece of furniture. Harry watched him, partially endeared but also sort of worried about puppy proofing his entire house.
He wasn’t too worried about it, though, because after a while, the puppy came over and sat down next to him, tail thumping on the floor behind him and tongue hanging out of his mouth. Harry grinned and crouched down to pet him, then looked at his phone.
“What do you say to some food, buddy?” Harry asked. “‘s almost noon…”
He just licked Harry’s hand.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” Harry said, laughing as he stood up and the puppy followed him into the kitchen, where Harry looked at the refrigerator and pantry. Nothing seemed very interesting, but Harry eventually grabbed a pack of ramen and started boiling some water.
While it heated up, Harry set up the puppy’s bed and toys, then got distracted playing fetch with the puppy, who got adorably excited, and Harry heard him bark for the first time. When the water boiled, Harry put in the noodles and then read the back of the dog food bag while he stirred and added the seasoning.
After it cooked and Harry poured a bowl of soup for himself, he measured out some dog food and put it in the bowl he’d picked out with Holly. The puppy had at it, and Harry smiled, satisfied, and then went and ate himself.
Once the puppy finished, though, he padded over to Harry and laid his head on Harry’s lap. Harry laughed and pet him. Suddenly, he looked up at his bowl of ramen, and then back down at the puppy, whose fur was long and golden brown and a bit curly.
“Hey,” Harry said, a slow grin growing on his lips. “Hey, how ‘bout Noodle, hm?”
The puppy yipped and thumped his tail.
“Noodle?”
Another bark, and he jumped a little bit, placing his two front paws on the edge of Harry’s chair. Harry laughed and rubbed his ears and said, “Noodle it is, then!” The puppy, Noodle, barked and bounced, and his ears flopped.
Harry looked at his noodles, wondering if dogs could have ramen, but then decided against it and went and grabbed a bag of treats from the things he’d gotten at the pet store. Noodle followed him, trotting along and then happily taking the treat.
“Good boy,” Harry cooed, “good boy, Noodle.”
Noodle barked again and covered Harry’s hands in licks, and Harry grinned.
“I think we’ll get along just fine,” he said.
***
The next time Harry took an unexpected detour, he was a bit less inspired, a lot more desperate, and horribly miserable. This time, he was heading to a double date. Mitch and Sarah, and Harry and somebody else, somebody Sarah thought he’d be good with.
Somebody who was not you.
How, Harry thought dully, could he be good with anyone who was not you?
It was raining. All Harry was thinking about was that time he’d danced with you in the rain, that time you’d gone to the park together and it had rained during your picnic and you’d danced together. In the rain.
Together.
The rain was miserable. Harry was miserable. The date would be miserable.
And it was even worse, because the directions Mitch gave him took him straight past your place. He felt nauseous as he started up the street. He couldn’t go on the date. He couldn’t go and pretend that he was okay, that he was over you.
Before he knew what he was doing, he was parked in front of your place.
He stared at the rain, coming down in sheets over his windshield. He wondered how many times he’d kissed you in that exact spot. How many times he’d walked you back home, how many times he’d stayed over, how many mornings he’d spent avoiding paps as he walked back to his car. How much he’d pay to have one of those nights, one of those mornings, just one more time.
He picked up his phone and dialled Mitch’s number.
“I can’t make it,” Harry said flatly.
“What?”
“I - I’m not coming,” Harry said.
“Are you okay?”
“Tired,” Harry whispered.
“Harry, I don’t -”
“I can’t make it,” Harry said again. “I’ll see you later. Apologize for me.”
“What? Harry, you can’t -”
Harry did. He hung up and stared at the rain again.
It was raining. It was raining so hard, so, so hard, and Harry didn’t have an umbrella. He didn’t have the energy to run, either, so he trudged up to your place in the rain. He was soaked. He was trembling, chattering, soaked to the bone.
You were on the phone when you opened the door.
“Speak of the devil,” you said.
***
Now, Harry’s watching you play with Noodle.
He doesn’t think he’s ever been happier.
“I’m gonna steal him,” you giggle, rubbing his fluffy belly.
Harry says, “You could try,” and kneels down next to you.
It’s been a little more than a week since he appeared on your doorstep. He’d been texting with you the entire time, just trying to find a time when neither of you were busy. That time had been today, and you’d come over as soon as you could.
“Think you like him more than me,” Harry says, and you grin at him, and Harry’s heart flutters, and you say, “You’re right.” Harry groans and buries his face in Noodle’s fur. “I’d be jealous but I’d like him more, too,” he mumbles, and you laugh as you stand up.
Harry looks up to see you looking at Noodle’s box of toys and then smiles when your eyes light up as you see the bag of treats. “Can I?” you ask excitedly, holding it up, and Harry shrugs. “Sure,” he says, and he has to bite his lip to keep himself from smiling more.
You sit down, laughing as Noodle jumps up, tail thumping when he notices the treats in your hands. Harry sits back, watching as you feed him a few. “Have you tried training him at all?” you ask, and Harry says, “Nope.” He pauses, then adds, “I was waiting for you.”
“Oh, sure,” you reply, grinning as you hold a treat with one hand and lift one of Noodle’s paws with the other. “So fluffy!” you exclaim, watching Noodle drop his paw obliviously and then giving up and giving him the treat anyway.
“You’ll make him fat,” Harry scolds playfully, reaching forward to grab the bag out of your hands. You yelp and dart away, holding it out of Harry’s reach. Harry scoffs, lunging after it again, and suddenly he’s falling -
“Jesus,” you gasp through giggles, “don’t want you on top of me like this -”
Harry laughs, propping himself up so he’s hovering over you. “Sure about that?” he says lowly, nipping at your ear, but you just laugh more, slapping lightly at his arm. “You’re ridiculous!”
Harry pulls back, unable to keep the smile off his face as he catches your eyes, gets lost in them for a minute, for two… You bite your lip, sliding your hand to the back of his neck and gently tugging him down so his lips meet yours.
“Missed you,” you whisper.
“Missed you, too.”
It feels like just seconds before Harry hears shuffling and licking through his blissful daze. He looks up, confused, and then sees Noodle steadily making his way through the bag of treats that had skidded, open, across the floor during your scuffle.
“Shit,” Harry hisses, scrambling up.
You groan, trying to pull him back. “Come back,” you whine, but Harry grabs the now almost empty bag of treats with a huff before looking back at you. He holds it up, and you sigh heavily.
“Shoulda just let him have it,” you say.
“‘s not healthy,” Harry says back, and he ruffles Noodle’s fur before carefully placing the bag on a table higher than Noodle can reach. “It’s not healthy to leave me alone, either,” you complain, and Harry laughs. “Please.”
With a dramatic groan, you get up to sit over where Harry is. You situate yourself next to him, and Harry smiles at how perfectly you fit together. You rest your head on his shoulder and sigh happily. “Guess we’re parents now,” you say, looking at Noodle.
Harry kisses your temple, smiling more. “Guess so,” he says.
Would you happen to have uummmm any ideas of kinks the kuro ladies are into, mainly grelle, mey, ranmao nina and hannah? 👀
Putting these under the cut for obvious reasons. ;) Please don't read if you're under 18!
Grelle: She's one of the most intense in bed, although the extent of her kinkiness would depend on the partner. For example, I envision her being much rougher with someone like Sebastian, a vicious demon whose body can heal within seconds, than with a mortal lover like Mey Rin. Miss Sutcliff knows how to put a whip or riding crop to use, usually while clad in tight-fitting leather and dominatrix boots. She's also an avid biter, and enjoys bloodplay. Seeing that beautiful red against a lover's skin is viscerally exciting! Grelle has a fondness for bondage (regardless of who's being tied up), and gets a kick out of patterns that are complex and difficult to unravel--it's all part of the fun. I headcanon that she sometimes puts a leash and collar on Sebastian, which the trash demon loves...especially if she chokes him. >:3 And, as one might expect from an actress, the reaper's open to role play if that's something her s/o wants to try; if they're a good little patient, they might even receive a medical examination from nurse Grelle. :3 She's a passionate lover who wrings her partners out like a dishrag; Grelle has a knack for pushing people to their limits. Mey Rin: The Phantomhive maid is an interesting case because she's horny but also sweet and anxious. Although she shies away from hardcore BDSM, Mey Rin is willing to experiment with light bondage (i.e. tying a partner's hands with a soft cloth that won't cause ropeburn, or having the same done to her). She also might be willing to blindfold her s/o and engage in sensation play with ice, feathers, etc. And while I have a hard time envisioning Mey engaging in extreme role play, she might ask her partner to dress up as a maid (or in a risque version of the uniform) and have them "serve" her. >:3 However, Mey Rin always frets over her s/o after they've done something kinky together. She wants to make sure they're okay and had a positive experience, yes she does! Ran Mao: Since I headcanon her as ace, she's generally indifferent to such things and doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. Like opium, lust muddles people's heads, and the bodyguard is grateful that it doesn't affect her--she needs to stay sharp to protect Lau. Ran Mao would much rather punch lechers than concern herself with matters of the flesh. Nina: The tailor tends to be sexually dominant with her partners. If given the chance, she'll tie her lover up in measuring tape and have her way with them. She also enjoys putting her s/o over her knee and spanking them, either with her hand or something more substantial, like a ruler. Nina gets a thrill out of taking her lover right there in her shop, away from prying eyes but with a risk of discovery. It merely adds to the thrill. Hannah: Though technically a switch, Hannah can be one hell of a domme, and an imperious one, at that. I could see her binding a partner (preferably with her demonic essence) while almost taking them to the brink, only to deny their orgasm time and time again until her s/o is pleading for mercy. Of course, whine too much, and you're liable to be gagged. ;) She might sit back and order her lover to pleasure themselves while she watches, until the demonness pounces on them. Based on that one scene where Hannah plays the glass armonica, she possibly has an oral fixation, as well. She also likes to subvert the maid role she played while under contract; for example, putting on the uniform and humbly offering to undress her s/o, only to "put them to bed" and ravish them once she has them in her grasp.
p. control
Tumblr media
I’m sorry to say that my horny tendencies are slowly but surely getting out of control. This is sfw, but uh. Heed the warnings, pals.
Warnings: Forced pet play. Brief suicidal ideation. Mention of having a panic attack.
Giorno & “Be good for me baby. We wouldn’t want to see those tears again.”
You take your time putting on the blouse. You know better than to delay too long, but you like to draw the process out as much as you dare, appreciating every second you have alone like it may be your last. You never know: maybe eventually, you won't be granted even these brief moments to yourself.
The blouse is a perfect fit. It hugs your figure just right, a small V-cut exposing the flesh just beneath your collarbones, but no lower. The expensive material - probably Gucci - rests delicately around your shoulders, and you hate the silky slide of it against your bare skin.
You look at yourself in the full-length mirror of the bathroom, taking yourself in. Your entire outfit screams extravagance, but it's simultaneously subtle and classy, the colours matched just right to contrast your skin and bring out your eyes. Your hair glows with a healthy shine you have never been able to achieve on your own, and the hints of pink on your cheeks add a dash of charm to the whole aesthetic.
You look good. It's not a shock - he's always made sure you look good, presentable, ever since he's gotten his hands on you.
Unable to appreciate it one way or another, you tear your eyes away from the mirror and turn towards the door. You take a few deep breaths, trying to prepare yourself for the inevitable, trying to still your rushing pulse, to quiet your own unwillingness to do this.
You put your hand on the door knob, and keep still. There's not a sound in the bathroom, only a strangely vast kind of silence. The white tiles on every wall both encapsulate and distance you from everything.
It's an odd thought, but being here is almost comforting, because it's the only place left where you get any kind of privacy, short lived though it may be. You wish you could stay right here, fill that enormous bathtub full of water and dive under, never to emerge again.
But you've been here long enough, and you know you're pushing it. So, with one last inhale of the moisturised air, you push open the door and step out.
Giorno is waiting for you by the bed, and when you first appear, he's frowning. But so soon as his eyes take in your appearance, his expression mellows, and then he smiles. "Amore. How beautiful you look."
You stand in the middle of the bedroom, avoiding looking at him. You should be used to having eyes rake over you these days, but his always seem to reach a little deeper, look right into your core no matter how many layers of pretty clothing he puts you in, and you don't like that feeling.
In the corner of your eye, you see Giorno grab something before he approaches you. You know well what it is even without looking.
He stands in front of you, and you keep your head titled sideways, staring instead at the desk on the other side of the room. It's tiny compared to the one in Giorno's office, but he likes to have somewhere to work during the late evenings, when he's going through the last few bits of paperwork before getting ready for bed.
You almost smile at the thought. How ridiculous, how infuriating, that you know this little detail about him, as if he's your lover, as if he's someone you might value in your life. That couldn't be further from the truth.
"Amore. Look at me."
You slowly face forward, and look into his eyes. A gaze of deep blue-green looks back at you, rimmed with long eyelashes darkened by his high-brand mascara. You think you see a hint of glittery gold eyeshadow on his lids.
"Good... Very good..." Giorno murmurs, holding your gaze while you feel both his hands reach out for you. "Now, lift your head... Yes..."
You do as he says, and then you feel that velvety constriction wrap snugly around your throat. The material is soft, but it stays firmly in place, pressing into your trachea just enough for your breath to hitch momentarily as you get used to the sensation. Giorno's fingers clasp the collar closed with expert ease, and then his hands move to rest on your shoulders as he admires you.
Just by the weight of it around your neck, you can tell which one it is. Giorno has a small collection of collars like these, custom-made and picked out especially for you. All of them are generously lavish, Giorno having spent no small fortune on them by now.
But the one you've been adorned with tonight is one of his favourites. It's relatively simple compared to some of the other ones: about an inch wide, inky black, and studded with real gold all along the top and bottom edges. It's heavy, but the plush lining makes it incredibly soft to the touch, and it never leaves unpleasant marks behind, even if you've been wearing it for hours. The matching leash, made of dark leather, has already been attached at the centre.
Giorno's eyes shine with a lascivious thrill, and you know he's enjoying every second of this. In a rare moment of self-indulgence, he can't seem to resist leaning down and placing an adoring kiss on your lips. "Bellissimo," he whispers, kissing you one more time for good measure before stepping away.
As he does so, his hand catches the leash, and he twirls the handle around his fingers as he smiles at you. "Let us go. We have a big meeting this evening."
That explains his choice for the night. As much as Giorno loves adorning you with pretty things for his own satisfaction, you know there's another big reason he does all of this: to show you off. Like an exotic pet he's made his possession, Giorno enjoys having you on a leash and collar for all to see, friends and enemies alike. The exquisite outfits he picks out for you invite others to admire you, but never to look in too closely - that's reserved only for him, and he wants everyone to know that.
But as he walks towards the door, you don't move, and the leash pulls taut between the two of you. Giorno stops and looks over his shoulder at you, but by this point you're frozen in your spot.
You don't know why you didn't go. Nothing about this evening has been unusual from the routine. And yet, something has stirred inside of you, some infantile desire to resist, to remind him that you don't want any part in this, that he's been forcing this lifestyle on you and you hate it enough to think about drowning yourself in his fucking bathtub.
Giorno doesn't pull you along. He does the opposite: he turns on his heel and walks back up to you, and he's not even done anything yet but you already regret your stupid, stupid broken heart for still trying to put up a fight.
With one hand still holding the handle, his other runs across the length of the leash, until his fingers are wrapped right at the base of it, underneath your chin. Then he tugs you closer, and you stagger with a high-pitched cry at the back of your throat, until you're pressed right against him. He forces your chin up with his thumb, and you meet his eyes hesitantly.
He doesn't look angry. At least, not in the way anyone else might. But you know Giorno, and you don't need to read his expression to understand on an intimate level that you made a mistake.
"Is there something you'd like to say to me?" Giorno asks, and you feel the collar pushing harder against your throat from his tight hold on you. "Perhaps I should cancel the meeting, and you can tell me all about your complaints in detail?"
The tone of voice he's using is gentle, but your practised ears recognise the threat in it. You only hear him speak like that in certain circumstances, and your body responds automatically, your breath fastening and anxiety prickling along your veins. Without realising it, you try to shrink away from him, but his grip on the leash doesn't allow it.
Giorno is close enough that you feel his round bangs brush against your forehead. Holding your gaze, he says in that soft, measured tone of voice: "Be good for me, gattino. You do remember what happened the last time you misbehaved, don't you? We wouldn’t want to see those tears again, now would we?"
Panic sweeps over you and you whimper as his words inevitably cause you to remember exactly what happened on that night. Phantom pain rises all along your body like goose bumps, and your heart pounds as hard as though it's trying to free itself from your chest and leave you to deal with Giorno's punishments all on your own.
Giorno sees the state you're in, and he smiles. "Answer me, gattino. Would you like for us to stay home tonight?"
You shake your head, but that won't be enough. Fighting back the sobs rising in your throat, you whisper: "No." Giorno raises his eyebrows, and you force yourself to continue, your words hiccuped by desperate gasps. "P-please take me along with you, Sir. I-- I'll be good."
It's as easy as that. Giorno's hand falls away from the base of your collar, and in turn your gaze falls down to stare at the ground, grateful you don't have to look into those tenderly cruel eyes any more.
"Good. Now, I want you to collect yourself by the time we arrive. We will not have anyone see you like this," Giorno says, already turning away from you as he glances at the clock hanging on one of the bedroom walls. "Come."
This time, you nearly trip over your feet in your hurry to keep up with him. You want to prove to him that you meant it: you will be good for him. Because otherwise, he's going to do something much worse than put a collar around your neck.
He opens the door, but before stepping out, he casts one more look at you. You look back at him with anticipation, ready to do anything he might ask of you.
But Giorno doesn't have any orders for you. Instead, he eyes you up. Eyes the entire length of your body, from your shiny leather Testoni slip-ons, all the way up to your worriedly arched eyebrows. You feel again the way his gaze pierces through your entire being as if you were made of water.
You wait nervously until you finally hear him say: "We're going to have a talk about this when we get back."
Giorno had told you to collect yourself, but during the car ride to your destination all you do is sit there and hyperventilate, your panic attack rendering you oblivious to the outside world. In the end, the only thing that manages to bring you back from the brink is the thought of how much worse it's going to be for you if you disobey a direct command from Giorno.
By the time you two arrive, you've numbed yourself to every thought and sensation, and you meekly follow Giorno out of the car, keeping your head lowered. At least while out here, you are safe. Giorno won't punish you publicly, because that's one of those things he likes to keep as only his to see. And nobody else will dare to approach you, or touch you, or disturb you in any way with him next to you. Out here, nobody will dare do anything to you. You find that thought reassuring.
There's nothing in the world that can save you from what awaits you the next time you step into the bedroom you share with Giorno. But for right now, you can close your eyes and find comfort in existing as nothing but his obedient little pet, ready to show your submission to him in front of all those watching eyes.
I Want It, I Got It: Chapter 1
Summary: Phil Lester was a worker for the BBC in London. Working in the advertising department, he was content being alongside his friend and fellow coworker PJ during every shift. However, the BBC is temporarily being used as a film set for a new movie staring Hollywood ‘It’ star, Daniel Howell. Being stuck as an extra on the set, Phil finds it’s hard to ignore the famous star. And maybe, just maybe, Dan finds it hard to ignore Phil as well.
Word Count: 1.8k (this chapter)
Warnings: Occasional swearing
Rating: Mature (for right now)
A/N: Ahh look at me. Starting another chaptered fic. Remember how I said a while ago that I hoped to have a fic to begin posting by Valentines Day? Well, this isn’t the fic. But I’ll take it lol I know I have a very bad track record lately of completing what I’ve started but I have 10k written on this fic already so I’m set for the next like five weeks which gives me plenty of time to finish the fic! Every one when I asked wanted this fic and I’m so glad because I’ve really grown to fall in love with it!
As always: I’m not an expert, nor a movie star or anything, so I’m not saying any of this accurate. I just thought this might be how it goes. But I hope you all enjoy it anyway! Happy reading!
Updates will be every Sunday at 1pm EST until I have the fic finished and then it’ll be twice weekly
“Dear Workers,
The BBC Studio will be closed for the next week to accommodate the filming of a new featured film starring Daniel Howell and Mimei Lake. During this time, you will have to work from home on any projects you may be in the middle of. A select few of you will be asked to work on the set as extras for the film. We’ll email those we selected by the end of tomorrow.
Hope this isn’t a hassle and apologies for any inconveniences.
Corporate”
****
“Did you read the new email?” Phil turned his head to his friend PJ sitting next to him in their office. “They’re actually closing down the whole building just to film a few scenes for one movie.”
Phil, coffee in hand and his laptop open to said same email, sighed. “It’s a Daniel Howell movie. Of course they’re shutting down the entire building.”
PJ rolled his eyes. Everyone knew of Daniel Howell. He was only the biggest actor in Hollywood right now. But that didn’t mean that everyone shared in on the fangirling when it came to his name being mentioned. “The BBC is gonna be untouchable all next week. I don’t even wanna know how many girls and guys are going to flock here to meet him.”
“He doesn’t do photos and autographs though?” Phil brought up, setting his mug on the table and shutting his laptop down. His work was nearly done anyway for the day.
“Still never stops the fans.” PJ says, tipping his head. “He’ll mention he’s in London on his Instagram or Twitter and then it’ll be over.”
Phil nodded. Yeah, that sounds pretty much correct. “Fair enough.”
“Who do you think they selected to work on set?” PJ asked. “I reckon they chose some of the interns because that they don’t have to pay them.”
“I hope it’s not me.” Phil says immediately. “God, the less I have to be here during this time, the better.”
“It’s gonna be impossible to even get here.” PJ adds. “They’re gonna block off all of the streets to accommodate Daniel’s massive trailer that he lugs everywhere.”
“I don’t even want to imagine.” Phil says. “I’d much rather just stay in my flat with Spike and work on my laptop.”
PJ nodded in agreement.
Just as PJ began to speak again, the door to their office opened and their coworker Gemma walked in, her expression giddy and a smile plastered on her lips. “Did you two see the email?”
Both PJ and Phil nodded.
“How are you both not more excited about this?” Gemma exclaimed. “Daniel freaking Howell is gonna be walking around our building! He could sit in your chair right now. Or use my office as a set. Or—”
“He’s just another person.” Phil interrupted her.
“But he’s not though!” Gemma shot back with a smile. “Oh, you two don’t get it.” She waved her hand and walked further into the office. She pulled out a chair at the desk next to Phil and plopped down.
“There isn’t much to get.” PJ countered. “He’s just a bloke who happens to be good looking and also a major celebrity.”
“So you do get it!” Gemma pointed out. “I really hope I’m one of the ones corporate selected to work on set as an extra. I would give anything to stand in the same room as Daniel Howell.”
“They’re probably just going to choose interns.” Phil says. “I doubt they’ll choose any of their paid employees.”
“I wonder if I email corporate if they’ll bump my name on the list and I can do it.”
Pj shrugged and tapped his pen against his forehead. “Doesn’t hurt if you really want to do it.”
“I’m steering clear of this building while he’s here.” Phil comments, picking up his now ice cold coffee mug and taking a sip, cringing at the taste of it.
“What do you have against Daniel Howell?” Gemma asks, folding her arms over her chest.
“He’s just another celebrity.” Phil says. “He’s pretentious and rude.”
“You don’t know that.”
Phil rolled his eyes. “It’s common knowledge.”
“What? That every celebrity is a dick?” Gemma asked, her voice clearly laced with tension. “Isn’t that a bit shallow minded?”
Phil shrugged. “Change my mind but until then, I’m gonna stand by it. I doubt any celebrity like Daniel Howell is down to Earth.”
Gemma scoffed. “Well, I for one think that it would be brilliant to work alongside him.”
Phil chuckled and took another sip of his cold coffee. He definitely didn’t want to work alongside Daniel Howell but he had to admit that it was endearing to see Gemma swooning over the actor.
Once Gemma left, Phil began to pick up his things and prepare to go home for the night. He stuffed his laptop in his backpack and then through in some of the folders he needed to complete the advertising project he was assigned to do for the BBC Radio 1 show.
He and PJ left the BBC at the same time and headed to the tube to go back to their flats. They lived in opposite areas of London but they saw each other often outside of work.
When Phil got to his flat and he opened the door with his key, he was immediately greeted by the excited yips of his puppy Spike. He was a ten month old Corgi that Phil adopted as a puppy. Spike kept him busy and less-lonely on nights where he wished he wasn’t thirty one and hopelessly single.
He bent down and scratched Spike’s belly as he rolled around on his carpet from excitement. Phil eventually stopped petting Spike long enough to go to the kitchen and check his food bowl and water. He knew his brother came over sometimes to let out Spike while he was at work so he sometimes fills up his food and water.
Today was one of those days. His food bowl was heaping over and his water was clean and clear. Martyn just came over not that long ago then. He made a mental note to text Martyn but in the mean time, he called Spike over to his door that lead to the courtyard and hooked a leash on his collar to take him outside one more time for good measure.
After being done, Phil let Spike go back into the flat. He immediately ran over and flopped onto his bed next to the couch and closed his eyes to take a nap. Phil sat down on the couch and looked over his phone, catching up on any notifications he might have missed while he was on his way home.
He saw a notification for an email and he sighed. It was probably some junk mail that some store was sending him. He got them a lot from Topman but to be fair, that’s where his entire wardrobe comes from.
He unlocked his phone and clicked on the email notification and waited to load it up. Once it did, he felt all breath leave his chest.
“To: Philip M. Lester.
Good Evening! If you have seen our emails from this morning you would have seen that the BBC will be closed for the filming of a feature film. Effectively 15th of January at 10pm until 9am on 25th of January, the BBC offices and building will be closed for filming.
However, after careful consideration, we would appreciate your help at the BBC during filming as a film extra. You should report to the BBC by half past 7 on the 15th of January.
If you have any question, email us back. This is part of your scheduled job and you will need to report when assigned.
Corporate”
Phil laid down on the couch and groaned.
Of course his luck would have it this way. Of fucking course this would happen.
***
“So we both got stuck coming didn’t we?”
Phil looked at PJ, his eyes still blurry from having to wake up so early. He didn’t even bother to put his contacts in today, he just threw on his glasses and said forget it.
“Guess so.” Phil says, standing beside PJ on the tube. Their stop was the next one. In the morning, they always ended up on the same tube before they got to the BBC. “This is going to be a disaster.”
“It already is.” PJ answers. “Did you go on Twitter this morning?”
Phil shook his head and pulled his phone out of his pocket. But he should have known he wouldn’t have any service while on the underground.
“It was a Twitter moment that Daniel Howell was spotted in London about to begin filming. He also tweeted, in true form, that he was going to be in London for a few weeks.”
“Oh great.” Phil said, rolling his eyes. “So what you mean is that the BBC is gonna be like impenetrable force?”
“Yep.”
Phil sighed and the tube stopped, the doors opening. They stepped outside and wandered through the crowds to the exit. Once they walked out of the tube station, it was over. They saw the crowds beginning already. Hoards of teenagers and even some adults all screaming and holding signs behind a barrier of police.
“Oh my gosh.” Phil exclaimed. “This is absolute madness!”
“Well, here we go, Lad.” PJ said, hooking his arm with Phil’s and yanking him across the street to the main entrance of the BBC.
They were nearly there when they were stopped by police, asking what they were doing. As soon as they both flashed their BBC badges, they were let inside to even more madness going on.
People were running around everywhere. There were sections of the building completely taped off and there were offices on the first floor that were being blocked by people in front of the door.
They continued walking inside and were greeted by a woman with a clipboard. “Can I get your names?”
“PJ Ligouri.”
“Phil Lester.”
The woman looked over the clipboard and smiled and looked at them both. “Welcome! If you’ll follow me, I’ll take you to where you need to be.”
Just as they were about to walk and follow the woman, loud cheering and screaming began behind them, just outside the building. Looking out the door, Phil could see him.
7 Surprising Ways To Help Your Pet Lose Weight (And Why It's Important)
Tumblr media
According to the latest veterinary surveys, over half our nation’s dogs and cats are overweight. This means almost 80 million pets are at risk for developing crippling arthritis, debilitating diabetes, catastrophic kidney and heart disease, high blood pressure and many forms of cancer.
How can you slim down your super-sized pet, keep them fit and reduce their risk of developing many serious diseases? The answer may be easier than you think. Try these seven tips to trim excess pounds from your pet and keep them trim. 1. Calculate Calories
If you don’t know how many calories your pet needs each day, you don’t know how much to feed. And don’t think you can trust the bag; feeding guides are formulated for adult, un-spayed or un-neutered active dogs and cats. That means if you have an older, spayed or neutered indoor lap potato you’re probably feeding 20% to 30% too much if you follow the food’s instructions.
Instead, ask your veterinarian to calculate the proper number of calories your pet needs each day. Another good starting point is to use this formula: Divide your pet’s weight by 2.2. Multiply this figure times 30. Add 70 and you’ve got a general idea of how many calories you should be feeding a typical inactive, indoor spayed or neutered dog or cat weighing between 6 and 60 pounds. ** [(pet’s weight in lbs/2.2) x 30] +70 ** Of course, each pet’s metabolism is different so be sure to consult your veterinarian before starting a diet. 2. Measure Meals
A pet parent’s single greatest tool in the fight against excess weight is a measuring cup. Too many pet owners simply fill the bowl or “guesstimate” how much they’re feeding. Even worse, some pets, especially cats, are fed an “all-day buffet” that results from the “just keep the bowl full” feeding method. The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention has done studies to show that feeding as few as 10 extra tiny kibbles of food per day can add up to a pound of weight gain per year in indoor cats and small dogs. After you calculate how many calories your pet needs, determine how much food you should feed each meal – and measure it. 3. Tactical Treating
First off, I’m not anti-treats. I am anti-junk treats. If you’re going to give your pets extra goodies, make ‘em count. Too many pet treats are what I call “calorie grenades” laden with sugar and fat blowing up our pet’s waistlines and destroying their health. Choose low-calorie, no-sugar goodies that provide a health benefit.
I like single ingredient treats such as sweet potato, salmon, and blueberry bites or functional treats that provide a bonus such as helping to keep teeth clean or promote mobility. Whatever treats you give, be sure to count those additional calories.  Many pet owners feed the proper amount of food but sabotage their efforts by adding one or two snacks throughout the day. As few as 30 extra calories per day means your pet gains over three pounds in a year.
Better yet, dogs don’t do division. Break treats into peewee pieces and divvy them out whenever your pet earns it. Be cautious of “guilt-treating” – the practice of giving your pet a treat because you feel guilty leaving them home alone. Instead, use treats only as a reward for good behavior. Pets (and people) need to learn to earn extra goodies. 4. Vital Veggies
As an alternative to highly-processed store-bought treats, try offering baby carrots, green beans, celery, broccoli, cucumbers, sliced apples and bananas or ice cubes. These naturally nutritious tasty tidbits are a healthy option for many dogs. Be sure not to feed dogs a full apple or banana, as they have high sugar content. For cats, try a flake of salmon or tuna when you’re feeling generous. While you’re at it, put down the potato chips and share a carrot with your pooch. You’ll both be healthier for it. 5. Hustle for Health
When it comes to living a long, pain-and disease-free life, research proves our most powerful partner is daily exercise. Speaking of partners, anyone with a dog has a built-in, no-excuse exercise buddy. For dogs, as little as 20 to 30-minutes of brisk walking is all it takes to boost immune function, improve cardiovascular health and reduce many behavioral problems. For cats, try playing with a laser pointer, remote-controlled toy or ball of paper for 5 to 15 minutes each day. Do yourself and your dog a favor and commit to daily walks, rain or shine. The health benefits of walking extend to both ends of the leash. 6. Smart Supplements
A couple of supplements may help keep your pet (and you) fit and trim.  Almost every dog, cat and person can benefit from taking a daily omega-3 fatty acid supplement. These powerful fish oils pack a potent anti-oxidant punch that has been proven to help prevent and treat numerous diseases. In addition, they may help ease achy joints and perhaps encourage weight loss. L-carnitine has been shown to aid weight loss and promote lean muscle mass in some studies. I’ve been prescribing (and taking) l-carnitine for over 13 years and been impressed with the results. Ask your veterinarian if either (or both) of these supplements make sense for your pet’s condition and which ones are good quality.
7. Cut Down the Carbs
Most dogs and cats don’t need a high-carbohydrate diet. Yet that’s exactly what most of us feed our pets. Many diets contain 60% or more carbohydrates when you analyze the food label. I suggest diets that have balanced protein and carbohydrates. As a general rule, I recommend trying a higher protein / low carb diet first for weight loss in my patients. Be sure to check with your veterinarian before making any diet changes. Pets with certain conditions, such as kidney failure, may do better on a different type of diet. It’s the responsibility of each of us to help our pets maintain a healthy weight. Just as you’d never walk your dog without a collar and leash or allow them to eat only pizza and ice cream (which many dogs would LOVE!), it’s up to pet owners to feed healthy, nutritious foods and treats and exercise daily. By using these seven simple suggestions, you’ll be on your way to your pet’s best – and healthiest – year yet!
What's in my dogs travel bag
Hey guys and welcome back to another blog! Today is all about packing for your doggos! As you might have seen in a previous blog post (here), we took Sweetpea and Loki to a super dog friendly place in Georgia called Jekyll Island. We are big fans of traveling with them whenever we can so I’ve become pretty organized when it comes to their packing situation.
Quick note: The flat lay photo above isn’t everything we bring, but the list below is! :)
PACKING LIST:
Dog Food with measuring cup - I always measure out how much we need so I’m not over doing it or under doing it. I do typically add an extra days worth of food to the large ziplock bag (if it’s just for a weekend) or small food container (if we are traveling for a long time) for each dog incase we were to get stuck or something random happened that extended our trip.
Dog bowls | 1 water to share and 1 food bowl for each
Collars with tags that have their names and our phone numbers on them - I am the QUEEN of finding other peoples dogs and it’s so frustrating when owners don’t have any tags on their dogs. Please have your contact info on your dogs tags so if something were to happen they can be returned quickly.
Harness - each dog has their own harness that doubles as their seat belt. When in the car we clip the leash to their backs so their necks aren’t being pulled but they will stay safe if we get in an accident. It also has a place to clip from the front if they start pulling on a walk.
Leash - again, each dog has a leash that doubles as a seat belt. Each one is looped around my back seat head rest and clipped to each back part of their harness while driving. And, of course, also used as a walking leash.
Hands free hiking leash and leash coupler - This is great for taking both dogs on a walk together. The hiking leash was given to us from a friend and it’s become one of our most used items. It goes around our waist, has a bungee leash which is AMAZING because Sweetpea is 70lbs and Loki is 50lbs so it’s absorbs a massive pull if they were to see something and pull hard at the same time, and a handy zipper pocket for keys, poop bags, etc.
Poop bags and poop bag dispenser with hook to attach to belt loop or leash.
Travel collapsable bowls and water bottle - If out and about I always bring the collapsable bowl with a bottle of water to keep them hydrated.
Medication and pill pockets- your dog may or may not take medication but if they do, you can’t forget it and we always use pill pockets to disguise the medicine.
Treats - I typically bring a few kinds incase they lose interest in one.
Toys! - A variety that usually includes something to play with together (like the big rope pictured above) and an individual chew bone for each of them. Those are always great if they have to be left at the hotel alone and I don’t want them getting bored and up to no good. Better to be safe than sorry.
Dog crate with blankets and dog bed- so crates might not be needed if your dogs are super well behaved like Sweetpea is, but Loki is an escape artist. He can get out of doors that have door “handles” instead of door “knobs” and he has even busted through single pane glass after seeing a cat in our front yard. He’s crate trained so it’s his happy place and we always fill it with blankets and a toy.
Backseat cover - I didn’t have one of these for awhile and boy can you tell. My car has nail intents on the center console and dog hair was to the MAX before I got myself a nice backseat cover.
Towel(s) - we always bring 2+ dog towels aka towels we don’t mind getting muddy or stained. They also come in handy to cover furniture and decrease the amount of dog hair you leave behind.
Long cable tie out like this one - so again, this is usually for Loki only since he’s a runner and we don’t always use it. We originally bought the cable one so he wouldn’t chew through it as a puppy and only have it on him if he’s being supervised. It’s great for taking him outside and clipping it to itself around a tree or something sturdy so he can still run around but not run away.
Clean up - you never know if your baby might get sick or have an accident so a bottle of carpet cleaner and paper towels is brilliant if needed.
TIPS:
if you’re staying in a dog friendly hotel, but are nervous your dogs might bark hearing every person walk by, door shut, new sound, etc - I HIGHLY recommend turning the tv on at a decent volume.
We always put the do not disturb hanger on the door so the cleaners don’t come in while we aren’t there. I don’t want to worry about Sweetpea wandering out of the door or the dogs scaring the heck out of them. Although are dogs are super sweet, a lot of people are scared of dogs so I just avoid making the cleaning staff uncomfortable and we will just ask for anything extra like towels and toiletries if needed.
Look for dog friendly restaurants ahead of time so you get optimal time with your furry babies.
Do you have anything else to add to the packing list or any extra tips? Please leave a comment below if so! Also, if you’re looking to go somewhere dog friendly, I highly recommend Jekyll Island. We had such a great time!
