About a decade ago, Goot learned about IPFS. Seemed like a great idea to solve the link rot associated with HTTP(S) and the Web in general. Links aren't tied to domain holders, who may either let the domain registration lapse or transfer ownership to someone else, or to filename locations, which may be reassigned to another file at the whimsy of the domain holder, or even to any one specific computer, which may just meltdown and explode. IPFS links are derived from the contents of the file itself, which guarantees that the file you ask for is the file you receive. And since that is a guarantee, once you have that file, anyone else can get that file straight from you. And once they have that file, they, too, can deliver it to whomever needs it. Finally, no more link rot! Truly, this is an InterPlanetary File System.

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.

her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.

A reminder with PBS being defunded that it is SO MUCH MORE than PBS Kids. It broadcasts educational shows about science, history, current events, nature, art and so much more, instructional television for cooking and home improvement, British shows that might not be available in the states if it wasn’t for PBS, theatre productions, indie productions that PBS gives an opportunity to broadcast they might not get otherwise, and all that’s not even mentioning NPR!!!!! Losing PBS would not only be losing nostalgic shows like Sesame Street and Arthur, but shows for teens and adults who might not be able to afford other channels as well, and THAT is one of the many reasons why it’s so important to fight for it. The link below is a form that lets you send a message to your lawmakers to not defund the extremely important resource to millions that is PBS!!!!!
