#LokSabhaElections2024 : Fourth Phase Voting On May 13; 96 Seats ; Akhilesh Yadav, Mohua Moitra, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Asaduddin Owaisi Among Others In Fray
Tumblr media
The electoral fate of several prominent candidates like Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Union minister Giriraj Singh, TMC’s firebrand leader Mohua Moitra and AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi will be decided May 13 when polling will be held in 96 Lok Sabha constituencies across 10 states and Union Territories in the fourth phase of the general elections.
Voting will simultaneously be held in all 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, which is witnessing a triangular contest involving ruling YSRC, the Congress-led INDIA bloc and the NDA, comprising the BJP, Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP and Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP).
As many as 28 legislative assembly seats of Odisha are also going to polls in this phase.
A total of 1,717 candidates are in the fray in the Lok Sabha seats and more than 19 lakh polling officials have been deployed at 1.92 lakh polling stations for the over 17.70 crore eligible voters, including 8.73 women, in this round of the seven-phase polls.
As per PTI report Among the keenly watched contests are those involving former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav (Kannauj, UP) and Union ministers Giriraj Singh (Begusarai, Bihar), Nityanand Rai (Ujiarpur, Bihar) and Raosaheb Danve (Jalna, Maharashtra).
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan of TMC (both from Baharampur, WB), BJP’s Pankaja Munde (Beed, Maharashtra), AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi (Hyderabad, Telangana) and Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila (Kadapa) are among the prominent candidates.
Union minister Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni, whose son is an accused in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, is eyeing a hat-trick from Kheri (UP), while TMC’s Mahua Moitra, who was expelled from Lok Sabha in the wake of cash-for-query allegations, is seeking re-election from Krishnanagar in West Bengal.
Film star-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha is seeking re-election from Asansol where he is pitted against BJP’s veteran leader S S Ahluwalia. BJP’s former West Bengal president Dilip Ghosh and Trinamool Congress’ Kirti Azad are contesting from Bardhaman-Durgapur.
So far, till phase three of the Lok Sabha elections, polling has concluded in 283 seats out of 543.
Polling will be held May 13 in all 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, all 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 13 in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, four in Odisha, eight in West Bengal and one in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nearly 17.48 lakh electorate are eligible to vote in the election to the prestigious Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency and 24 candidates are in the fray. It is the first major election in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
The National Conference has fielded influential Shia leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi while youth leader Waheed Para is contesting on the People’s Democratic Party ticket. The Apni Party has fielded Ashraf Mir, while the BJP is not contesting.
The BJP-led NDA has MPs from over 40 of these 96 seats that will go to polls on May 13.
The voter turnout in the first three phases of the Lok Sabha elections was 66.14 per cent, 66.71 per cent and 65.68 per cent, respectively.
The EC believes that the heatwave conditions are one of the reasons for lower voter turnout in the last three phases as compared to the 2019 parliamentary polls.
Citing an India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the poll authority on Sunday said that “there is no significant concern regarding hot weather conditions for the polling in Phase 4.”
The weather forecast indicates that the parliamentary constituencies going to polls are likely to experience normal to below normal temperatures and there will be no heatwave-like conditions in these areas on polling day.
Keeping in mind the hot weather conditions and people’s reluctance to step out in the afternoon, the Election Commission has increased poll timing in some Telangana seats.
While the usual hours of voting are from 7 am to 6 pm, they are curtailed keeping in mind the terrain, time of sunset and security situation.
Issues like reservations, appeasement politics, corruption and jobs dominated the battle of narratives in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
Among the 13 poll-bound constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, a close contest is on between SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and sitting BJP MP Subrat Pathak in Kannauj, while in Unnao, incumbent BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj is up against SP’s Annu Tandon.
In West Bengal, the EC has identified 3,647 polling stations as “critical” across the eight constituencies.
A total of 152 companies (around 100 personnel each) of central forces would be deployed in Bardhaman Purba district, followed by Birbhum (131), Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (88), Krishnanagar Police District (81), Murshidabad Police District (73) and Ranaghat Police District (54), an official said.
The voter turnout in the redrawn Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, following the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir in 2022, will be keenly watched as most of the areas under the seat had previously witnessed low polling percentages due to boycott calls given by the separatists.
To encourage people to exercise their franchise, district election officers in the constituency organised various outreach programmes, used audio, visual and print medium and also held street plays and sports events.
Officials said all arrangements have been put in place for Monday’s polling.
“A total of 17,47,810 voters have been enrolled in phase IV, including 8,75,938 men, 8,71,808 women and 64 third-gender voters. There are around 11,682 persons with disability and 705 voters above the age of 100 years,” they said.
As many as 2,135 polling stations have been set up across Srinagar, Ganderbal, Pulwama and parts of Budgam and Shopian districts where polling will be held. Twenty-six special polling stations have been set up for migrant voters of Kashmir Division with 21 in Jammu, four in Delhi and one in Udhampur District.
In Andhra Pradesh, the ruling YSRCP is contesting in all 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
As part of a seat-sharing deal among NDA partners, the TDP was allocated 144 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies while the BJP will contest from six Lok Sabha and 10 Assembly seats.
The Janasena will contest two Lok Sabha and 21 Assembly seats.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the YSRCP had won 22 seats while TDP was reduced to just 3.
YSRCP president and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (Pulivendla), TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu (Kuppam) and Janasena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan (Pithapuram), among others, are in the Assembly poll race.
With the polling on eight seats in Madhya Pradesh, elections to all 29 seats in the state will be completed.
The eight constituencies spread over 64 assembly segments in 15 districts in the state’s Malwa-Nimar region are considered the bastion of the BJP.
In Indore, after Congress candidate Akshay Bam withdrew his nomination at the last minute and joined the saffron party setting the stage for a one-sided contest for BJP’s Shankar Lalwani, who won by nearly 5.4 lakh votes in 2019, the Congress urged voters to hit NOTA (None Of The Above) option.
Polling for the next three phases in the country is on May 20, May 25 and June 1. The counting of votes is on June 4.

Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was also stopped, pointed out that it was a public road.
Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was also stopped, pointed out that it was a public road.
Political Controversy Erupts as Police Block Visits to Sandeshkhali: Congress and BJP Delegations Stopped
The political atmosphere in West Bengal has become charged following the police’s obstruction of visits to Sandeshkhali by both Congress and BJP delegations. The BJP’s planned visit saw a diversion to the West Bengal Raj Bhavan, while Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury staged a protest where he was halted.
Tumblr media
The actions of the police drew sharp criticism from both parties, with accusations of unconstitutional and unethical behavior directed towards West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The six-member BJP delegation, including Union Ministers Annapurna Devi and Pratima Bhowmick, was halted merely five kilometers from Sandeshkhali, at Rampur. Similarly, the Congress team, led by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, faced obstacles at Sarberia and Rampur. The parties condemned these actions in unison.
The unrest in Sandeshkhali has led to the imposition of prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144, following violent protests by local villagers. Allegations against local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh and associates include land grabbing, sexual harassment, and assault on local laborers.
Reports indicate that the BJP leaders were stopped by the police upon reaching Rampur, where they alleged mistreatment and were compelled to stage a dharna for hours. Annapurna Devi expressed dismay, highlighting the contradiction of allowing criminals freedom while impeding elected representatives from addressing citizens’ concerns.
BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul emphasized their attempts to comply with regulations, only to be met with persistent obstruction. Despite this, the delegation managed to connect with women in Sandeshkhali via video call before redirecting their efforts to the Raj Bhawan in Kolkata to meet Governor C V Ananda Bose.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s protest in Rampur underscored his questioning of the legitimacy of police barricades on public roads. He dismissed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegations linking the BJP and RSS to instigating trouble in Sandeshkhali, condemning what he deemed divisive politics.
In contrast, TMC MP Shantanu Sen defended the police’s actions, questioning the BJP’s motives and citing their alleged lack of proactiveness in previous incidents. Sen echoed the sentiment that allowing the BJP delegation entry could destabilize the state’s atmosphere.

Rahul Gandhi rejects Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s claims, said stone pelting incident is ‘wrong news’
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s car was damaged near the Bihar-Bengal border. On Wednesday, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that the act is suspected to be stone pelting but Rahul Gandhi came up with a statement and said that the claim is ‘wrong news’.
Later a clarifying post on X on Congress's official handle read, "A huge crowd had come to meet Rahul ji in Malda, West Bengal. In this crowd, a woman suddenly came in front of Rahul ji's car to meet him, due to which the brakes were suddenly applied. Then the glass of the car broke due to the rope used in the security circle. People's leader Rahul Gandhi is fighting for justice against the injustice being done to the people. The public is with them, the public is keeping them safe,"
Chowdhury said that there were unidentified persons who threw stones at Gandhi’s car. “Maybe someone at the back pelted a stone amid the crowd...Police force is overlooking that. A lot can happen due to overlooking. This is a small incident but something could have happened too,” he told the press.
Rahul’s car was attacked while he was reentering West Bengal from Bihar in Malda's Harischandrapur area.
On Tuesday, Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra reached Katihar after which he carried out a roadshow in Bihar on Wednesday. He was approaching West Bengal after that through Malda.
The incident happened in the backdrop of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s decision to contest the Lok Sabha elections alone.

"No Tie-Up With Congress": Mamata Banerjee's Bengal Twist Stuns INDIA Bloc
The Trinamool Congress will contest the elections for Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats on its own steam, and only consider a pan-India alliance with the Congress after results are declared, a furious Mamata Banerjee declared Wednesday. Ms Banerjee's words deliver what appears to be a final blow to hopes the two parties - widely seen as important members of the INDIA opposition bloc - will reach any agreement.
Tumblr media
"I had no discussions with the Congress. I have always said that in Bengal, we will fight alone. I gave them (the Congress) many proposals… but they rejected them. I am not concerned about what will be done in the (rest of the) country… but we are a secular party and, in Bengal, we alone will defeat BJP."
In further signs of fraying tempers, she also hit out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', which is expected to enter Bengal on Thursday but might skip Kolkata.
"They are coming to my state… but did not have courtesy to inform me, even though I am part of the INDIA bloc. So there is no relations with me, as far as Bengal is concerned," she told reporters.
Ms Banerjee has a good rapport with Congress matriarch Sonia Gandhi, but her ties with Mr Gandhi are seen as strained. She has made it clear, earlier too, she is against allowing her 'ally' to contest in Bengal.
"INDIA will be present in India (but) in Bengal the Trinamool Congress will fight. In Bengal it is only Trinamool that can teach the BJP a lesson. It can show the country the path to victory…" she had said.
Minutes later the Congress responded through comms boss Jairam Ramesh.
Mr Ramesh, who is with Rahul Gandhi and the yatra in Assam, said his party "cannot imagine INDIA bloc without Mamataji". Mr Ramesh insisted "all INDIA partners will unitedly fight Lok Sabha polls in Bengal".
Ms Banerjee's announcement has drawn a scathing jibe from the BJP's Amit Malviya, who called it a "sign of desperation". "Unable to hold her political ground, Mamata Banerjee wants to fight all seats, in the hope that she can still be relevant, after the polls…" the BJP's IT Cell boss posted on X.
The Trinamool vs Congress squabble over seat-sharing, and the larger picture of how INDIA might defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP, has rumbled on for weeks with no apparent resolution, with neither side willing to back down. The Congress has, so far, ignored deadlines to close a deal.
On Tuesday Ms Banerjee criticised the Congress' "unjustified" demand for 10-12 Lok Sabha seats in her state; she had offered two, pointing to its' abysmal record. It won four seats in 2014 and only two in 2019.
A senior Trinamool leader, on condition of anonymity, told news agency PTI, "(Ms Banerjee) said, 'Don't think about seat-sharing with Congress'… she said she offered two seats but they demanded 10-12".
Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh last week warned the Congress against "unjustified bargaining".
Meanwhile, Ms Banerjee, in a show of strength, has directed party leaders in Birbhum and Murshidabad district to begin planning for the combined five Lok Sabha seats on their own. The latter is key because one of its three seats is Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's constituency of Berhampore.
Mr Chowdhury, the Congress' state unit boss, is fiercely opposed to sharing seats with the Trinamool, and has repeatedly attacked Ms Banerjee, despite efforts from leaders on both sides to stitch an alliance. He responded to the offer by declaring Ms Banerjee owed her success to the "mercy" of the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi, asked about these attacks, played them down, insisting "Mamata Banerjee is very close to me and our party" and that it is "natural", sometimes, for the two sides to criticise each other.
But they are not going to disrupt the relations between the Congress and the TMC," he insisted.
Meanwhile, away from Bengal, the Trinamool is also unhappy over the Congress' refusal to play second fiddle to regional parties when required. The Congress has already been criticised for this by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav after it refused to share seats for November's Madhya Pradesh election.
Ms Banerjee on Monday said the Congress was welcome to fight 300 seats on its own, but urged the party to surrender some seats to regional parties that will have the best chance of defeating the BJP.
"Particular regions should be left to regional parties. They can fight 300 seats alone… I will help them, I will not contest those seats… but they are adamant about doing what they want," she said.
"I have the power to take on the BJP, but some people don't want to listen to us about seat-sharing. If you don't want to fight the BJP, then at least don't give away seats to it," the fiery Trinamool leader said.
Ms Banerjee is one of the few opposition leaders to have enjoyed electoral success against the BJP in recent years, after orchestrating a statement win over the saffron party in the last Assembly election.
In 2019 too she ensured her party had an edge, winning 22 seats. That, though, was less than the 34 from five years ago. Ominously, BJP went from two to 18.

Congress Asserts Importance of Mamata Banerjee in INDIA Bloc Amidst Alliance Uncertainty
In a surprising turn of events, Mamata Banerjee’s announcement of going solo in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal has left the Opposition INDIA bloc in a state of disarray. The Congress, responding to Banerjee’s decision, emphasized that an alliance without the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo is inconceivable.
Tumblr media
Addressing the media in a press conference, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh acknowledged the shock caused by Mamata Banerjee’s decision. He underscored the significance of the TMC as “a strong pillar” within the INDIA bloc and expressed the party’s inability to imagine the bloc without Mamata Banerjee.
“Mamata Banerjee stated that the goal is to defeat the BJP, and we are committed to doing whatever it takes. Rahul Gandhi has clearly stated that Mamata Ji and the TMC are integral to the strength of the INDIA bloc. We cannot fathom the existence of the INDIA bloc without Mamata Ji,” Ramesh affirmed.
Ramesh further assured that despite the unexpected development, the INDIA bloc would continue to function as a united front in West Bengal. He expressed optimism about fruitful seat-sharing discussions with the TMC in the future.
“The alliance will operate cohesively in West Bengal. Congress president (Mallikarjun Kharge) has extended invitations multiple times, stating that all INDIA bloc parties are welcome to join the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” Ramesh stated.
Amidst uncertainties caused by Banerjee’s solo decision, Ramesh conveyed the INDIA bloc’s commitment to uniting against the BJP. He announced that the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, currently progressing in Assam, would extend into West Bengal with the same purpose.
“While on a long journey, speed breakers and red lights may come our way,” Ramesh noted, symbolizing the challenges faced during such political journeys.
Mamata Banerjee’s decision to sever ties with the Congress emerged following a public exchange with West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. The TMC leader claimed that the grand old party did not inform her about their planned Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, raising questions about communication within the bloc.
Banerjee’s move has introduced a new complexity to the Opposition’s attempts to present a unified front against the ruling BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. The INDIA bloc now faces the challenge of reshaping its strategy in light of this unexpected development.

PM At Ram Temple Inauguration Today, History At Ayodhya
The consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, a 50-year-project of the BJP and long awaited by many, will take place today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fly to Ayodhya to participate in the ceremony, which will be telecast live.
Tumblr media
Here are the top 10 updates on this big story The consecration ceremony will be celebrated across the country and Indians abroad with special prayers and various programmes at local temples. The occasion has been hailed as a Diwali -- the festivities that marked Lord Ram's homecoming after the battle with Ravan and temples and houses have been strung with festive lighting. PM Modi has been observing a series of strict 11-day religious rituals to prepare for the consecration ceremony at noon. He will also address the gathering on the occasion, read a statement from his office.
"The historic Pran Pratishtha ceremony will be attended by representatives of all major spiritual and religious sects of the country. People from all walks of life including representatives of various tribal communities will also attend the ceremony," read the statement.
PM Modi will interact with labourers who have been building the Ram temple. He would also visit Kuber Tila, where the ancient temple of Lord Shiv has been restored, and offer prayers. The 380x250 feet temple is being built in the traditional north-Indian Nagara style. Its 392 pillars, 44 doors and walls have elaborate carvings of gods and goddesses. The idol of five-year-old Lord Ram has been placed at the sanctum sanctorum. The Kuber Tila stands at the southwestern part of the complex. Near the temple is a well (Sita koop), believed to be dating back to the ancient era.
Various leaders of the BJP and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have already been camping out at Ayodhya, which has prepared to receive over 11,000 visitors. Over the last weeks, the sleepy temple town has had an international airport and a renovated railway station. Hotels, guest houses and homestays have mushroomed, bursting it at the seams and bringing in the long awaited economic boom.
The opening of the Ram temple -- which has been at the heart of a decades-long political storm -- has been cold-shouldered by most Opposition parties including the Congress, Left, Trinamool Congress and the Samajwadi Party, which accused the BJP of gaining political mileage from religion on an election year. The BJP has hit back, censuring all who declined the invite, including the Congress's Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Calling the parties anti-Hindu, the BJP has declared that they will get their punishment from the people at the hustings.
The event has also drawn other controversies -- including the one that involves the Shankaracharyes of four premier monasteries staying away. The Puri and Joshimath Shankaracharyas have said consecration of an incomplete temple cannot be held. They have also questioned why PM Modi will be inside the sanctum sanctorum when the Shankaracharyas have been allotted seats outside. The event, they have alleged, is being given a political angle.
The building of the temple started after the Supreme Court, in a landmark judgment of 2019, awarded the disputed land for a temple and asked that Muslims be given an alternate plot for a mosque. The matter, which went to court shortly after Independence, had escalated after hundreds of Karsevaks razed a 16th Century mosque on the site, believing it was built over a temple marking the birthplace of Lord Ram.

The KISS model is an excellent approach to educating tribal children and has empowered the tribal communities. About 80,000 members have reaped the benefits directly and over 8 million indirectly.

#LokSabhaElections2024 : Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Under Fire From TMC For Alleged Video Asking People To Vote For BJP
Tumblr media
The Trinamool Congress has accused Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of being the “B-team” of the Bharatiya Janata Party after a purported video, where he allegedly stated that voting for the BJP is better than voting for the TMC, went viral, prompting a denial from the Congress, claiming the video was “doctored”.
An eight-second video clip of Chowdhury’s speech during an election rally in West Bengal’s Murshidabad was shared by the TMC, where the sitting Congress MP and candidate from West Bengal’s Baharampur was seen saying “It’s better to vote for the BJP than to vote for the TMC.”
However, the authenticity of the clip could not be verified.
Responding to the clip, the West Bengal Congress unit termed it as doctored and officially complained to the EC, seeking intervention and appropriate penal action.
Commenting on the purported remarks, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the goal of his party is to bring down the numbers of the BJP in West Bengal and that the TMC is part of the INDIA bloc.
Earlier in the day, the TMC, upset with Chowdhury’s continual criticism and holding him responsible for the breakdown of seat-sharing discussions with Congress in the state, labelled him as “anti-Bengal.”
In a post on X, the TMC said after acting as the “eyes and ears of BJP in Bengal,” Chowdhury has now been promoted to be the “voice of the BJP in Bengal.”
“Listen to how the B-Team member is openly asking people to vote for the BJP – a party that refused to release Bengal’s rightful dues and deprived our people of their rights. Only a Bangla-Birodhi can campaign for the BJP, which has repeatedly insulted Bengal’s icons,” the TMC said.
“On May 13, people of Baharampur will give a befitting response to this betrayal!” it added.
TMC Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale also attacked the Congress leader over the remarks.
“Finally from the B-team horse’s mouth! Congress Bengal chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury publicly asks people in his rally to vote for the BJP and not the TMC. While Mamata Banerjee fights against the full might of Modi+Central Agencies machinery, Bengal Congress is openly asking votes for the BJP,” he said in a post on X.
“In Bengal, TMC is INDIA taking on BJP. Meanwhile, Congress and CPM have chosen to become Modi’s loyal soldiers. This is disgusting and beyond shameless,” he said.

“Is it not sufficient that I am here? Said Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury when asked about Gandhi’s absence
On Sunday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the national flag at the new Parliament building. The event was celebrated a day before the new session of Parliament was scheduled to start and several party leaders, from ruling as well as opposition parties, were present at the event. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers Pralhad Joshi, Piyush Goyal, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and others represented the BJP party whereas several others were in attendance from the Congress Party. It was noted that Congress chief and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi were absent.
It was Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who majorly represented the opposition and when asked about the absence of Kharge and Mr. Gandhi he said, “Is it not sufficient that I am here? If I am not useful here, tell me and I will leave.”
Chowdhury also asked the media to focus on those who were in attendance rather than going after those who couldn’t make it.
Earlier, Kharge expressed his concerns over a late invite earlier and said he was attending a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Hyderabad when he received the invite.
"I am writing this letter with a sense of disappointment that I have received your invite for a flag hoisting function tomorrow at the new Parliament Building only on September 15, quite late in the evening,’ Kharge wrote to the Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody.
Kharge was attending a meeting with the newly formed working committee of the Congress Party. He was scheduled to return to New Delhi on Sunday evening and hence couldn’t make it to the function.
