Adam sat in the darkness as he along with others waited with dread for their turn. Turn for what, you may ask?

Why to be auctioned off at the annual event hosted none other than Vox industry.

How did this happen? How could Adam have fallen so low as to be captured and chained up like some kind of animal?

To keep it simple, it was just that, he had fallen.

One minute he’s closing his eyes one last time after being stabbed a hundred times over. Then the next he’s waking up as a lamb sinner in the middle of Pentagram city.

With additional features that grabbed many demons attention.

Including the Vs.

Next thing Adam knows he’s grabbed and hauled off. He was put in a tight short leather outfit, if one could even call it that, that clung to all and any curves he had.

And baby did he have them.

The overlords Vox and Valentino themselves did a look over and approved. He was then thrown into a room with several dozen other demons, a few Hellborn even, shivering with dread as they all now waited to be taken.

Adam tried a few times to get the Hell out of wherever they were but found that he couldn’t. He was stuck there until it was his turn.

Which happened to be his next.

Two strong men grabbed him and only him and roughly man handled him as they brought him to where the main event was.

Adam winced as he tried to shield his eyes from the harsh light. Only being able to cover his eyes as his hands were tied behind his back.

His sensitive ears pined back at the sound of Vox’s loud voice.

Vox: This here ladies and gentlemen is a special treat. This is no mere sinner, this man is the original dick himself! That’s right folks the commander of the exorcists, Adam!

Even with his eyes closed shut he could still imagine the crowds shocked faces. Which soon turned to jeering and slight laughter.

He couldn’t imagine a more hilarious sight. The once proud first soul in Heaven that lead legions of angels down to Hell to slaughter the filth is now one of them.

He could only think of the worst that was to happen to him if any of those freaks got their nasty hands on him.

Vox: He’s not too bad to look at either isn’t he? He could definitely keep your bed warm and let your stresses out after a hard day at work.

A chill ran down the lamb sinner’s back when he heard that. But not as much as when the bidding started.

Left and right sinners drew and shouted their numbers. The longer it went on the higher the price was. If he wasn’t being traded off like a cow or pig he’d be flattered.

At one point he actually got eight billion as his price.

Vox: Do I hear a number higher than eight billion? ….No? Alright going once, going twice-

Lucifer: Ten Trillion!

Gasps escaped from the crowd including the auctioneer himself. Adam couldn’t help allow a confused expression to plaster on his voice as he cracked his eyes open.

That voice sounded deadly familiar…

Vox’s mouth went agape as he fully saw the bidder: Your majesty!

Adam’s golden orbs flew open and looked over at the front of the stage where stood none other than the king of Hell himself holding his card up and high for all to see.

Lucifer: I shall take the beauty off your hands~

His gaze wondered over to Adam as he gave him a smug expression.

Eugenides Propaganda:

the entire plot hinges on a detail he lets the reader (and every other character) assume is true. I don't want to spoil it because it's a really fun reveal but he is lying from the first second he appears on the page and you can't trust him to tell the full truth about ANYTHING related to himself and his goals. he mostly does it to keep his advantage and not have other characters be suspicious of him but it's just so fun when you realise he's been lying the whole time

Harrowhark Propaganda:

She gave herself a lobotomy and gives completely incorrect flashbacks to the previous book. Things that straight up did not happen. Gaslight gatekeep girlboss.

She’s schizophrenic (confirmed by the author) and also lives in a world with necromancy and ghostly revenants. She’s not just an unreliable narrator for readers, she’s an unreliable narrator of her own internal experience. She knows this and has to work with people around her to compensate for it. Descent into spoilerville below. Seriously Do Not Read if you want to read these books. There’s also the little matter about how she is *not actually the narrator* of a huge chunk of the story that we are initially led to believe is being told from her perspective.

(Spoilers) Holy shit she is THE most unreliable narrator. This gremlin gave herself a lobotomy so that she could forget about Gideon Nav, the most important person in her life (for magic soul-preserving reasons) so half of the second book in the series is spent gaslighting the reader about a book they just read. She comes up with an entire alternate version of the events of the first book in the series to carefully exclude any mentions of Gideon, and any time someone says ‘Gideon’ in front of her she LITERALLY has a stroke and/or an intercranial hemorrhage as her brain overwrites the word with someone else’s name. God occasionally intentionally triggers her memory revision to get out of difficult conversations. She also hallucinates ALL the time (unrelated to the lobotomy). She shows up at her frenemy’s room in the middle of the night (think little kid stumbling to their parents’ room and saying “I frew up”) to ask her to come check underneath her bed for the corpse that’s been wandering the space station. When frenemy checks underneath the bed, frenemy claims not to see anything, and Harrow is such an unbelievably unreliable narrator that it’s an open question in the fandom as to whether frenemy genuinely didn’t see the corpse or if frenemy was just yanking Harrow’s chain. Harrow is also haunted by a literal ghost that fucks up her already fucked up alternate history. Girlie will pick up a piece of paper and read from it the most violent and haunting piece of prose ever composed, when in reality all that’s written on the paper is the elementary school Superman S*. I am NOT joking that is a real goddamn scene. Harrow was created to win this poll. Harrowhark is simply the unreliable narrator of all time. Can’t remember shit because of a lifetime of trauma? Check. Maybe lying to yourself and those around you a bit? Most definitely. Being gaslit by the survivors you depend on to orient you to reality? For sure. How about a little bit of canon schizophrenia? She’s got it all. Ghosts? Or something? Spirits that are attached in some way to your body and are not perceivable by others? Sure, sure! But how about spirits that are attached in some way to your body and are gonna use you to hijack others’ bodies and maybe kill God, too? Absolutely. Wee bit of DIY brain surgery? If it would make you an unreliable narrator, friends, then Harrowhark Nonagesimus has been there, been subjected to that!

Okay I don't know that much about this series since I haven't convinced myself to read all of the first book, but this is my blorbo in law so I'd feel bad not spreading propaganda (all of what I'm saying is something I've read, as to prevent myself from straight up submitting misinformation). So all of Harrow's unreliable narration takes place in the second book, Harrow the Ninth. Basically, without her even seemingto acknowledge it, Harrow's brain is very fucked up during this book, to the point where even she's not sure how reliable her narrative is. There's many questions left unclear as a result of her fucked up little brain, like what's real, what's fake, whether we can trust her judgement, whether even she can trust her own judgement, whether her original cavalier is dead or not (Harrow is convinced she is), etc. Let me tell you, I adore unreliable narrators who aren't even that sure if they're reliable. So, I think your translation is very excellent! In fact, you taught me something!

[1] Written with an alternative character for “fall” that appears only here in the song, and that suggests not only falling, but also degrading or going astray.

I kind of glazed over the nuance of 堕ちる vs. 落ちる when writing my own translation, my brain automatically just filling it in as the same as "falling". And while both words do mean to fall, I had failed to think deeply on the change. In a way, I feel new learners have the advantage of always having to think carefully and critically of each word. The more used to it you get, the more you glaze over stuff and don't think about it...I try so very hard to avoid that! But it's super duper hard when you get to the point where you no longer think about nuance consciously, you just "know"...thank you for reminding me!!

Anyways, as you said, 堕ちる has a nuance of "degrading", or something became a "worse" version. Falling from grace, for example.

I wish to comment on the first line of the song.

I see we both went different directions with 笑ってた. Because of the lack of context, it could either be "smile" or "laugh". I chose smile personally, as I just felt it made more sense with the sentence "I'll see you tomorrow". Both are correct since we have no further context.

As for the second part...I don't think your translation is incorrect by any stretch, but within just simply wasn't what I had first thought of. As you know, の is a possessive, indicating that A "owns" B. Literally speaking, ���の徒桜 is something like "heart of scattering cherry blossoms". I admit my translation of "ephemeral flower" is clunky because I wanted to keep the flower/blossom motif, but 徒桜 is a metaphor for things that don't last long.

In short, thinking of it like that, 心の徒桜 means "[my] heart of little time [left]". I turned "of" into "is" since this makes more sense in English.

All that said, I think the distinction is very small, and your translation works just as well.

Again, your translation is totally correct! I just got a bit more specific with it. 温もり means "warmth", but is often warmth of the "inside", and is very metaphorical/emotional. Hence "embrace" to convey this human type of "warmth".

Now, let's talk about the big line...

平凡に生きて共に逝くこと　叶うのならば　嗚呼…

Your TL: To live an ordinary life, and to die together. If that could come true—alas…

My TL: Ah, If only that wish of mine could come true: To live an ordinary life and pass away together with you.

I read your post here, and it is very well thought out.

However, in Komaeda’s line, there is no explicit “you” preceding it—so he wants to die together with something, but that something isn’t directly said in the sentence. It could be Hinata, but if you’re looking at the line that comes right before this one, it could easily also just be talking about the dying cherry blossoms or the departing spring mentioned there. (It’s worth noting that “together” is only attached to the “dying” part, not the “living an ordinary life” part.)

You are right that there is no "you" - and you are also right that 共に does not need to refer to people. It just means two things occurring jointly. It is used for objects and people alike. I think that sort of ambiguity is intentional.

I, personally, interpreted it as "you" for a few reasons. Back to your post...

An unspecified person who might be Hinata does play an important role in the beginning of the song, when he’s talking about seeing someone again tomorrow. But the line about living an ordinary life and dying “together” does not necessarily lend itself to the interpretation that he is saying he wants to live and die alongside a specific other person.

You are right to say it does not necessarily indicate such, however I think it's a safe bet to assume it does mean that. My reasoning lies in how Japanese in general is structured. If a subject is clear, it does not get repeated. With there already being an aforementioned alluded to "person", I felt this line was a callback. Of course, I can surely be wrong, and I do think there is still ambiguity there on purpose. But I think, at least, the ambiguity only exists because there is a person mentioned in this song. If there wasn't, we could all easily write it off as Komaeda saying he wishes to die with the cherry blossoms.

Another reason I read it as "you" is due to the fact the sakuras could not be the subject of 平凡に生きて共に逝くこと if we are basing it off the sentence that comes before it, ゆく春を惜しみあうように開く桜のように.

Because of this のように at the end, it cannot take the form of a noun. You can still argue it is to die together with sakuras! But it cannot be based on the proceeding sentence, as it does not make grammatical sense. It would then make dying with the sakuras as much of a call back as dying with "you".

(It’s worth noting that “together” is only attached to the “dying” part, not the “living an ordinary life” part.)

This is true! Although, there is a possible invisible キミと in front of 平凡に生きて if Komaeda is indeed singing about this "you".

I rag on literal translations a lot, but when it comes to a discussion-based format like Tumblr posts (and not an official release to a game), having all avenues open is a great idea. It helps people who can't speak Japanese get the full picture. Your translation provides the raw, ambiguous text - and I'm simply providing one logical interpretation. This then allows people with no Japanese experience to be able to compare and contrast the two, and come to their own conclusions...

So, please don't think I'm saying you're wrong. Translation is tricky, and there's always room for debate on what something could/should be translated as. In the end, you may actually be more "right" than I am. The important thing is you clearly have a good grasp on grammar rules and words.

Now, I have a question for you. I'm confused about a line.

As you said in your notes, 注げる means "pour". I really like your interpretation, but I'm unsure if it makes sense. To "receive water" would be to say the life itself is being poured onto, rather it being the thing getting poured, yes? But the issue is there's no "water" in the sentence for it to draw from. You would need 水を注げる somewhere in there. I think English dictionaries are misleading about the meaning of 注ぐ. One of the definitions is "to water", but it only takes this form if water is present in the sentence.

To pour water (etc.) from above. To sprinkle. "I water the bonsai" (lit: "to pour water on bonsai")

Also, my TL is plural since 日 can be day or days. I read it as a plural, but it can be singular just as well. It makes little difference with how it is used here.

Honestly yeah, this is something I keep coming back to.

Chloe as Anti-Bug she took down Chat easily. As QB she navigated rooftops as easily as the more experienced Ladybug. She handled herself better than Rena or Carapacs on Heroes' Day & was even able to cover for them; along with needing to be isolated & ambushed by multi-prong familial attacks to be take down. She was also a fair match for Mayura who stomps most people she fights. Plus, as Penal-Team she was such a menace the heroes plan (From what I can gather/recall) was basically to just drag out a stalemate so long until she got frustrated and quit.

Under other circumstances one could put it down to the advantage of an antagonist needing to pose a threat, but the QB stuff doesn't fit that metric, meaning she is just genuinely very skilled at this.

Honestly this just swings back to such a 'what the FUCK happened??' when you see season 1-3 vs season 4-5.

Season 1-3, Chloé is incredibly competent in all areas. Unless it's Marinette, an equally-competent main character with plot armor, taking her down, then it's a larger effort. Especially later when she is trying to be Good so there's more to crack than just the scheme of the day

Season 4-5, Chloé can't even think of a decent plan to be mean without someone holding her hand through it.

Well 5 years ago was 2020 so that was fun …

I was ankle deep in the chaos of the nhs during the pandemic, my service closed regardless of what that meant, me and our team separated and redeployed into an alarming sector of medical work none of us had any experience or skill in but then we never got used anyway, so pointless stress and upset and confusion… ya know fun stuff…. all while enjoying the peri menopause and eventually after a few years of that drowning somewhat and a little burnt out by it all! Not much motivation for much(except my writing- that really took off!) so as you can guess not the best time in my life and things were a tad challenging until i admitted help was required and the HRT and other medications kicked in!! What a cheery tale huh! 🫣

But honestly while Ive not changed much on the outside inside it’s different I’m more louder, bolder and less scared to speak up. Getting older and tired of all the bullshit has advantages it apparently. Anyway 2024 also sucked big time but I rose to the challenges and kept going and things are kinda ok ish now.

realistically. I do think vox's digital security is strong enough for him to counter spyware/digital attacks (which is why I think an actual physical distraction for vox while the hotel does whatever is more effective) but I think it'd be funny if he like got so distracted by the surprisingly high quality mod that he didn't realise his system's anti viruses going off until the hotel got a good chunk of him enjoying the game more than he should've (and he gets made fun of for it by velvette forever but also gets scolded by her for not noticing the spyware sooner and he's lucky he didn't leak too much essential vee stuff during it) and he then swiftly removes the spyware from the code and just keeps the mod so he can keep playing it because for some reason the hotel crew got like really into its development and it's actually a very high quality fully-functional mod, and he lets no one find out that he kept it (or at least attempts to).

someone on xitter is claiming Stolas "didn't realize how predatory the deal is and got upset when he figured it out" and that he didn't knowingly do anything wrong, & there's "a difference between doing it knowingly and not realizing you have an unhealthy power dynamic" (and also that it wasn't actually a deal, Blitzo just thought it was?? or something?? I guess using the phrase 'favors for favors' and 'I give you X if you give me Y' somehow isn't a deal now, but idk - contradictory excuses again)

and like, what?? assuming Stolas somehow didn't realize - I mean, he called when Blitzo was getting shot at, kept pressuring him when there were gunshot sounds and Blitzo repeatedly saying he couldn't talk, but let's just entertain the hypothetical for a second: then how is that better?

If anything the second possibility is scarier, tbh. The first one is awful but shows a baseline understanding of what it means for Stolas to be a royal and Blitzo to be an imp. He's at least aware on some level that what he's doing is coercive, has rationalized it away until now and while he's still an awful person, he could someday admit what he's done is wrong and not do it again.

The second one suggests a Stolas who has no real understanding of how the world around him actually works, or that it makes a massive difference for him to be a prince and Blitzo and imp. If he made that deal believing Blitzo freely consented to it then he has no understanding of how the lack of money and power dictates the lives of people below him, or how consent even works. He wouldn't be capable of even understanding what he's done wrong because he's incapable of understanding the forces that motivate those around him & he's functionally blind to his own ability to motivate the lower classes to do whatever he wants, even at the cost of their own bodies and time. Also like, ignorance is not an excuse.

And the saddest thing? I think the second version of Stolas is closer to the one in canon. Murder Family Stolas might have known exactly what he was doing, but s2 Stolas has been moving more and more towards "this situation is barely my fault at all" - the tweet saying he realized what he did wrong and it made him sad is giving Stolas too much credit, I suspect. imo everything is building towards Stolas letting him go not because he realizes what he did was wrong, but because he now wants something else from Blitzo - his love and affection and the ability to paint over ever having to think of his relationship with Blitzo as having involved coercion on his end. until then all we've seen him do is complain the "relationship" is a "lie", not notice or care that his "lover" is the exact same species as the servants he also exploits and abuses, and send passive-aggressive "I'm sorry if you were offended" type texts

tl:dr; but until Stolas says the words "I was wrong to use your job to get you to make the deal, I'm sorry and I was kidding myself you actually wanted to sleep with me this whole time" or something similar with no weasel-wording and putting the blame on Blitzo, I'm not going to believe he's learnt a damned thing. if anything I think the show is just going to lean more into making Stolas unaware of his flaws and privileges; attempting to make him more pitiable & sympathetic while accidentally making him more abhorrent

(also like, gee. how sad for Stolas. how awful it is for him to have realized he took advantage of someone. sure is nice for the story to focus on the feelings of the rich prince realizing he took advantage of someone instead of his victim coming to terms with that fact and breaking free. honestly, I hope these takes are all coming from the same couple of individuals; I'd hate to think the HB fandom is doing this on a widespread scale)

Villain arc or something else?

The Paint the Town Blue montage hits hard but also creates a misleading picture of what Cait was doing vs Ambessa. Ambessa orchestrated everything leading up to the police state as we saw in 'Finally Got the Name Right'. We also see her being portrayed as the person in charge as she looms over and takes advantage of Cait who is visibly in mourning and grief.

Cait on the other hand has her obsession with finding Jinx. The threads that streak through her face in the montage show how she's blinded and obscured by her singular focus as everything descends into chaos.

This was intentional to make people believe that Cait is no longer sympathetic to Zaun. But we see in the same episode right after the montage with her talk with Maddie that she is having to choose a lesser evil.

The way she is explicitly portrayed is a setup for the explicit and implicit revelations of her intentions in 'The Message Hidden in the Pattern' and 'Killing is a Cycle' episodes. I'll leave with what Cait said as she argues with Vi in the aftermath of the commune. If you don't give her the benefit of the doubt, we'll never see who she really is and what she has done or will do.

Hey! Hope you're doing well! This may be off topic (hell if I know), but I have a bit of an oddly specific inquiry about the race Shadow is (Falkry? That was the name right?), specifically the biology (I think that's what it would be)

Specifically-specifically, the wings... okay I know that probably doesn't make much sense, but the context is that I learned that wing shape heavily influence how a creature (race? human? person?) flys through the environment. I can't explain it much more, but, in short, what are the wing shapes? Are they one type of wing throughout all or do they differ based on what each culture would have been (since they're, uh, extinct kinda? In your world anyways)? Shape? Size? Any other features? Wow, this a VERY interesting question! And I have a spectacularly long answer for you! (I also included a few pictures at the bottom of this post of the very specific anatomy a Falkry has -- the art is not mine, but it perfectly shows the skeletal and muscular structure of Falkry wings, also showing how the muscles and bone structure move and shift during flight which I thought might be helpful. You might have to zoom in though to read all the descriptive writing explaining each muscle and its purpose)

Now on to the explanation: You are absolutely correct in that wing shape heavily influences how creatures fly. And yes, there are different wing types among Falkry. BUT, they do not differ too greatly -- the differences are more subtle. For example, no Falkry has short-flight-type wings (shorter and stubbier meant for short bursts of flight in real-life birds rather than gliding/soaring - like chickens and turkeys). They always have larger, broader wings like eagles to be able to stay airborne, especially since they are human-sized (which means big wings to get them in the air).

To perhaps word it better, the differences I mentioned are more like hawk vs falcon-type wings (hawks have broad wings, falcons have thin and narrow ones for better maneuverability, but there are a ton of closer similarities between those two types than for hawk-shaped wings vs chicken-shaped wings. Make sense?)

A Falkry's genetics determine a lot about wing shape & structure. Shadow, for example, has wings that are powerful but slightly slimmer/more tapered and narrow than most other Falkry (genetic anomaly that works to her advantage). Her wing shape is a cross between hawk & falcon-types. She is a super fast flier because of this, and can out-fly anyone she races. She also has elite aerial maneuverability because of her falcon-like wings and can make sharp twists, turns, and abrupt changes of direction in the air that most other Falkry would have a hard time doing.

It means she's good at dodging & weaving through tight spaces and has a significant evasive advantage in aerial training combat against Falkry with broader wings who can't make those sharp twists she can and are slower to make turns.

But Falkry with bigger, wider wings than Shadow, on the other hand, would have an advantage in long-distance flight & journeys because they would have an easier time soaring and gliding on air currents, conserving energy by avoiding unnecessary flapping. Each wing-type helps in different ways, and each has its advantages & disadvantages.

Physical fitness has a lot to do with things too. For example, a Falkry with broad wings (designed for soaring) might still be able to beat someone with shorter and narrower ones (designed for speed) in a race if their muscles are stronger. But Shadow in particular is very physically active, even when's she's not punching people's noses in (LOL), and so she has a lot of built up endurance and raw power, along with loads of flight experience and skill on her side which is part of what makes her so dangerous.
