Aina here is a Red Mage main because her mother was before her and part of the crimson duelists. Her mother actually survived the slaughter, but permanently damaged her aetheric pathways by teleporting with only a wisp of aether left. Aina herself began as a healer mostly in an attempt to find a way to help her mother but during her time in Eorzea ran into X'rhun and took up red magic getting by sheer happenstance her mother's soul stone from the Miqo'te. Aina had always wanted to learn her mothers magic but the woman couldn't teach her the actual casting, though she was able to pass on the blade work. While training with X'rhun Aina actually had difficulty balancing the black and white mana because she had attempted to learn black magic but struggled with using magic only to harm.
As far as other roles she can and does often use the dancers art because she had always admired them while growing up on Thavnair.
And since she started her training as a healer she does bear the mantle of white mage. It was where she began when coming to Eorzea.
WoL/FFXIV OC Question(s)!
What is your WoL/OC's main class/job and why? Are they good at multiple roles? Are there any they're really bad at?

This isn’t how the game was supposed to go. You're not supposed to be here. You're an anomaly. But if you’re already here, then… can’t you just enjoy it for now? Just for a little while? Before the main story begins? Before everything inevitably falls into place? ...Right?

CH. 06 — NAME
Day 976.
The final day.
You knew it was coming. The memories of Love and Deepspace are hazy, slipping away like sand through your fingers, but this — the Chronorift Catastrophe — this you remembered. You'd counted down the days, every morning whispering the number under your breath like a prayer. The disaster that would destroy the Gaia Research Center was supposed to be your escape. The end of all this.
You’re not sure if you feel hope or dread now that it’s finally here.
The morning is cold, sterile. The same metallic walls. The same stale air. Caleb sits near the corner, absently fixing a damaged drone — a pointless act, but he needs something to keep his hands busy. Unicorn hums quietly from her corner, fingers tracing invisible patterns on the floor. They’re calm. Too calm. They don’t know.
Neither of them knows. Not like you.
The sirens start just after midday. The wail echoes through the halls, loud enough to rattle your bones. Red lights flash in violent bursts, painting the walls in warning. The ground trembles beneath your feet, a deep, unnatural quake that turns your stomach. A tremor at first — then a violent roar that shakes the walls.
The Deepspace Tunnel has opened.
You stumble to the railing as the world seems to tilt beneath you. The explosion that follows is deafening, a shockwave tearing through the walls like paper. Cracks spiderweb across the ceiling, and in the distance, containment pods shatter. Steel screams as the floor splits. Wanderers — twisted, jagged things that flicker in and out of reality — pour through the cracks.
You see it happen — the observation unit where Unicorn is held crumpling in on itself, crushed beneath a fallen support beam. You hear Caleb shout their name, a desperate, panicked sound. They don't move. They’re gone.
Just like that, it’s over.
A hand seizes your wrist — Josephine’s. “Come with me,” she says. Her voice is sharp, urgent.
Caleb’s voice is tense. “And if we don’t?”
“Then you die here.”
There’s no time to hesitate. The Wanderers are closing in. The air stinks of ozone, of burning metal and something worse. You run.
Josephine drags you through the wreckage like she knows exactly where to go. Maybe she does. Caleb stays close, eyes darting behind you, his breath ragged. The facility is crumbling, and yet Josephine’s path never falters. A sealed chamber lies ahead — reinforced doors barely holding against the tremors.
“This way,” she says.
A swipe of her keycard, and the doors hiss open. Inside, the room is quiet. The shaking feels distant here. The flickering monitors display spikes of aether energy — readings taken from Unicorn’s core. But something’s wrong.
The data shows... nothing. Unicorn is missing.
No body. No remains. Just... gone.
Caleb tenses beside you, fingers curling into fists. Something isn’t right.
But there’s no time to question it. The Wanderers are close, and Josephine’s eyes are sharp with determination. “We’re leaving.”
“You said we’d die here,” Caleb says lowly. His voice is sharp. Accusatory. “What’s your plan, then?”
Josephine turns toward him. “Names.”
You blink. “What?”
“If you leave this place, you will not be Subjects anymore.” Josephine’s gaze is steady. “You need names.”
A fresh start.
Josephine’s eyes flick toward Caleb. “What do you want to call yourself?”
Caleb’s mouth opens—then shuts. His brow furrows, like he hadn’t considered it. Like he’s not sure what to say.
Then his eyes shift toward you.
You remember the first time you called him by that name. That first moment, dazed and confused after transmigrating into this nightmare, when you had looked at him and whispered—
“ Caleb, ” he says quietly. His voice is steady. Sure. “That’s my name.”
Josephine’s expression is faintly amused. “Caleb, then.”
Caleb glances at you. You see the way his shoulders ease slightly, the tension bleeding out of his frame. He’s choosing to tie himself to you. Whether he realizes it or not.
Josephine’s gaze sharpens. “And you?”
You hesitate. Your throat tightens. You’ve spent so long as a number—Subject 000—that the idea of a name feels foreign.
But Caleb is watching you. His gaze steady. Expectant.
And so you speak.
You give her your name.
Josephine’s eyes soften. “Good,” she says.
You don’t remember how you ended up in the shelter. The streets of Linkon City had been chaos — fire swallowing the skyline, the sky choked with smoke, bodies left crumpled in the streets. But now... now there’s only stillness.
Caleb hasn’t stopped pacing since you arrived. His fingers flex and curl, restless and tight. You’ve never seen him like this — caged, furious, helpless.
“I should’ve done something,” he mutters. He’s not talking to you. Not really.
You want to say something — anything — but what’s there to say? You’re not strong enough. You never were. You're just... this . Trapped in a world that isn’t yours, wearing a clinical gown that shouldn’t be yours. The thought makes you ache for your old life — your bed, your room, your stupid plaid pajamas. It’s ridiculous, but you’d give anything for something that felt normal .
The door opens. You hear footsteps, the soft tap of shoes against concrete. Caleb stiffens. His head snaps toward the door, hand twitching toward his side like he’s reaching for a weapon that isn’t there.
Josephine steps into the room. She’s calm, composed as always — but there’s a strain beneath her eyes that wasn’t there before. Her hand rests on the shoulder of a figure standing just behind her.
Small. Pale. Bare feet peeking out from beneath the hem of a grey medical gown. Their hair is dark, soft strands falling over wide eyes.
They blink slowly at the room. Their gaze sweeps over you and Caleb — no recognition in their expression. Just quiet curiosity.
“Unicorn,” Caleb breathes. He takes a step forward before he catches himself, his breath sharp. His eyes narrow. “How—”
“She survived,” Josephine says simply.
Caleb’s jaw tightens. “She shouldn’t have. That building—”
“She survived,” Josephine repeats, her tone brooking no argument. Her hand moves to the figure’s hair, smoothing it back gently. “And she has a new life now.”
The figure’s gaze flickers toward Josephine’s hand. Slowly, they lift their own, wrapping small fingers around Josephine’s wrist. They don’t speak.
Josephine’s expression softens. “Eden,” she says quietly.
Caleb’s eyes widen. “What?”
“She has a new life now,” Josephine repeats. “A new name.” Her gaze flickers toward you. “Just as you do.”
Eden tilts her head slightly, processing that. Then her gaze drifts toward you and Caleb again.
“Eden,” you say, testing the name. It feels… right.
Caleb still looks tense, but his gaze softens when Eden’s eyes meet his. He steps closer — slow, careful — and crouches so they’re at eye level.
“Hey,” he says softly. “I’m Caleb.”
She blinks.
“And I’m—” you hesitate, feeling the weight of your name, the realness of it. You’ve lived as Subject 000, as ‘Omniscient’, for so long—to the point the feeling of your name on your lips feels so surreal to you. “I’m [Name].”
For a moment, Eden just looks at you both. Then, slowly, she steps closer to Josephine’s side, her small fingers tightening around her sleeve.
“I don’t remember you,” Eden says quietly.
“We know,” you say. And you do. This isn’t the first time.
Eden’s gaze lowers. But then Caleb reaches out, his hand brushing against her arm. She doesn’t pull away.
“We’ll always be by your side,” Caleb says. His voice is steady, certain. “Even if you forget us.”
You nod. “Always.”
Eden studies you both for a moment longer. Her eyes are calm — too calm. Then her gaze shifts toward Josephine.
“Grandma?” she says.
Josephine’s breath catches.
Caleb’s head snaps toward her, eyes widening. You straighten, stunned despite yourself.
Josephine’s expression wavers for a moment — a rare crack in her composure. Then she kneels, her hand brushing Eden’s cheek.
“Yes,” Josephine says softly. “I’m here.”
Eden leans into the touch. “Okay.”
You say nothing. Caleb says nothing.
Unicorn… no— Eden doesn’t remember. She doesn’t know what she was. What they did to her. What she did to you .
So you let her believe in the lie.
You let her believe she has always been loved.
You let her believe she has always been safe.

ngl i put on a brave face, but actually it does massive psychic damage to me to have people i thought were allies turn around at the slightest inconvenience and not be allies. like oh really? that shitty book ip is more important to you than our friendship? oh you have right wing propaganda talking points all ready to go when i push back on it? interesting. heartbreaking and suspect but interesting.
i really do try to give people the benefit of the doubt but boy howdy. cis people you really have to care a little bit and do some homework, like sure it doesnt impact you NOW but do you really think they're going to stop here? it is not better to be on the tiger, it's still going to eat you when it's done with me. (legit, this happened in my ffxiv static last thursday and ive been so depressed since. like not eating/sleeping, back to my low key self harm behaviors, i can't stop crying. it's not great. i'm sure the us political shit is compounding my response but still. you know when games are kinda lifelines and then even that's cut off? like that. any queer statics on aether looking for an okayish tank/healer for endgame stuff? hmu. honestly i'm willing to move data centers too at this point)

I *do* keep my fanfic back-ups on discord. Actually it's where I write them too, so here's my process, it should be a good starting point at least.
Step 1: I write directly into discord. This is because discord is always in my pocket. However, there is a character limit, and it usually saves in progess posts for long periods of time. But if you don't hit enter there's always a chance the latest post will glitch. Honostly, character limit means you can't lose too much.
Step 2: I copy and paste it into notepad. This is because I want complete control over the formatting and want it compatible with *everything.* I make my chapters around 600 "lines" long which is shorter than yours so you may need to do some extra testing for step 3. If you have a lot of italics you'll want to pretend to edit the post and copy from that mode. It puts asterisks around your italics so they don't just disappear into the aether. (I put them back in in AO3).
Step 3: I upload the notepad to a condensed channel with only the chapters. Discord has a data limit for sharing files. I don't know what word processor you usually use, so you'll probably need to experiment with that. However, most of them can only be opened if the receiver has a copy of the same processor. Notepads open in discord (though with shitty formatting) and are downloadable by everyone. If you don't mind not having italics.
My step 4 is making it pretty for AO3.
I appreciate hearing about your process!
But there has been a miscommunication. When I said I was thinking of creating a Discord server for Lucky Child, my intention was NOT to host the story on Discord itself, nor use the platform as some kind of word processing alternative/a backup server for the text of the fanfic. The Discord server would function as a distribution center (providing download links to chapters as e-reader or txt files) and a chat/community center in the event Tumblr became unsafe and/or the AO3 servers went down and the comments section went with it.
Respectfully, I want to caution you against using Discord as your main writing program or as a backup server for your works. You should ideally be saving offline copies of your work that aren't hosted in the cloud on servers outside your control. If AO3 and Discord went down simultaneously, it sounds as though you'd lose all of your work. Unless you're saving those notepad files somewhere, you're putting the longevity of your body of work at risk. Any works in-progress that you haven't yet manually copied over to a notepad file are also at risk.
(Additionally, and at the risk of sounding pedantic, if you are using Discord as your primary word processor, you're not really "backing up" your work via Discord. That's your primary copy. It sounds like your backup is actually AO3, and potentially those notepad files if you're saving them offline.)
In the end, I'm trying to find a way to get Lucky Child to readers without relying on a single distribution platform (which at this time is AO3). Trusting your data to someone else's servers puts you at the exact risk I'm trying to avoid: censorship. Goggle Docs has been caught altering user's content or locking them out of their own content, and I can see a world where Discord follows suit and starts monitoring the content shared between users. I would avoid hosting the text of Lucky Child itself on the server to lessen chances of the story getting flagged.
If the system works for you, that's great, and thanks again for showing me your process! But it's not really relevant to my goals for LC and its distribution at this time.

hey you look cool as fuck I love the flower crown!! also what is a crystal player I don't play any final fantasy games. is it like one of the world server things or something?? this is a genuine question. thank you
Thank you! :D Yeah, the game is divided up into data centers, and the North American ones are Crystal, Aether, Primal, and Dynamis. For a while they were completely separate, so you had to make a character on the same data center if you wanted to play with your friends.
Then they opened travel between the data centers, which immediately led to each DC being stereotyped for a different purpose--Crystal for roleplay and venues and parties, Aether for hardcore raiding, Primal for pvp matches I think, and Dynamis as the empty one no one really goes to (it's new). Occasionally the more toxic types will gripe about Crystal players being bad at the game and mucking up the Aether raiding scene, but they're not worth listening to. I mean yeah I'm pretty bad at high end content, but some of my friends are incredible!

Hey guess what! I have a second ff14 character now! Though he's on a different data center than Spaer. Gonna use this as an opportunity to talk about both of them!
Starting with Spaer, she's a Roegadyn- part sea wolf and part hellsguard. For almost all of her life she's been on the ocean, hell she was even born on a ship! Her parents were pretty notorious pirates but they were killed by Leviathan when Spaer was around 8. From that point forward Spaer was raised by the few surviving members of the crew. Spaer herself is very sweet and gentle, but is often a bit of a pushover. She absolutely loves her friends, particularly her party members she's been traveling with (Friend's OCs :] ). She often puts their happiness and safety before her own, and can be a bit self destructive because of it. So far her and her group have recently helped liberate Ishgard from the evil pope and have now turned their sights to finding the remaining scions.
Now for Shiruba! He's still very new, so there's not a lot I have on him yet, but here's the basic gist. Shiruba is neither a scion nor the WoL, he's from the future and was sent back in time with the goal of killing the WoL in order to prevent catastrophe in the future, or so he thinks. He seems a bit rude and dismissive of others but that's only because he's under a lot of stress about his mission. He's got an excess of aether churning around him, a lot even for a magic user.
(For the record, the 'Wol' that Shiruba is after is NOT Spaer, they're on different data centers so think of it as alternate timelines. The WoL that Shiruba is after is actually another one of my friend's OCs! :] )

World Underneath: Sealed In Dust
Part 01: Whispers
A young man in a duckbill hat and an older man in a raincoat exchange verbal barbs and a briefcase that still smells like an explosion; the older man (who has been watching EVER) is careful not to touch it with his bare hands as he opens it to expose 4 pieces of yellowed paper.
.
Part 02: "Unicorn"
Subject Anomalies Record (directly transcribed) Recorder: Josephine, Gaia Research Center, Unicorn Team, Researcher/Team Leader Date: Observation No.5, Day 42 Anomalies: Subject 001 regained vital signs after death. Details: Subject 001: Female, Evol: Anhaunsen Class Day 41 of Observation: 2:00AM For reasons unknown (suspected to be a researcher's mishandling of the subject,) the subject's energy values rapidly increased and peaked at 2:39AM. It resulted in a powerful energy burst within her body (no casualties or equipment was damaged.) All vital signs disappeared after the explosion. Day 42 of Observation (Today): 4:00PM Vital sign monitors suddenly restarted and slowly transmitted data again. Heart rate, breathing, and brain activity resumed. Not only did Subject 001 appear to be alive again, but energy values also returned to normal. A comprehensive physical examination revealed a newly created, unidentified substance in her heart.
Experiment Notes (summary): Josephine is of mixed emotions about the event; if the thing in the subject's heart is an unknown element, "then what kind of existence is she?" The group collectively decide to tall the element Aether, and thus the object in the subject's heart is called an "Aether Core." It is quietly determined that the only way to study the subject's 'resurrection' is to kill her again, to see if the subject wakes up. She calls the subject a "unicorn." Josephine finds herself unable to give a vote of approval for the process, despite believing that Subject 001 "holds too many secrets that are worth researching and carries an unpredictable amount of energy;" she "still can't ignore that (Subject 001) is a child."
.
Part 03: Observation Log (summary)
Observer: Josephine Entry No. 1 They have taken to calling the girl Unicorn. After her 'resurrection,' all memories and cognition of her previous 'life' was erased; though she is able to pick up, absorb, and understand information far above the capabilities of her peers. Entry No. 2 The girl uses the Resonance Evol unconsciously. Entry No. 3 The voting results result in the beginning of experiments to kill Unicorn in an observation unit. The energy is agitated to the point where it burst, and Unicorn 'dies.' She wakes up again, and the energy of the Aether Core is even stronger than it already was. Josephine is begins to struggle with emotional attachment to the subject.
.
Part 04: Post-Catastrophe Journal (summary)
Day 49, Post-Chronorift Catastrophe, Sunny The Gaia Research Center was destroyed, and Subject 001 was lost. Josephine found her in a shelter, and the girl called her 'Grandma,' though she'd never learned the term, and didn't appear to recognize her. Josephine brings her home. Day 75, Post-Chronorift Catastrophe, Sunny The little girl is still with Josephine. "Her memory is like a faint signal, intermittent and sometimes wavering." She continues to take care of her. *1
.
Part 05: Journal Entry 4 (summary)
Day 134, Post-Chronorift Catastrophe, Sunny Josephine has been unable to get into contact with any of the researchers she worked with. She wonders about the intents behind EVER's research and investment. The only person she's found is Dr. Noah, and the data after the girls checkup shows her energy at half of what it used to be. The girl doesn't communicate anything about her experience in the Chronorift Catastrophe; she was alone the whole time. Josephine thinks that "maybe forgetting isn't such a bad thing for (the girl.)"
.
Part 06: Dust (summary)
Duckbill feels Raincoat has more than enough information to "confirm her identity and role." Raincoat commends Duckbill for "(silencing) Josephine," and gives Duckbill a vial of some kind of drug. Raincoat gives the briefcase back, and tells Duckbill to watch the smell; Duckbill tells him to watch his handkerchief, since he'll be implicated, too. He asks when Raincoat's people intend to make their move, and Raincoat tells him there's no rush.
Conversation: (Edited as dialogue-only)
"Your Prince Shen Xinghui has been glued to her side watching over her, right? I've been curious for a while. Do people still practice feudalism where you're from? Isn't that regression in a sense?" "Hmph, Shen Xinghui can only guard her for so long. He's too busy dealing with his own issues... Don't say I didn't warn you. It's not just EVER who wants her. Strike first to gain an advantage." "The one who strikes first is helping her cultivation. If you can get rid of Shen Xinghui in the process, you'd be doing us a big favor. Isn't internal struggle your specialty? Kill Shen Xinghui and let EVER crown you as a prince. Haha--" "I can't kill Shen Xinghui, but I can do more than deal with a two-legged, carbon-based monkey like you." "You... Kill me, then. But how long can you survive in this era?" "Tell your masters they better get their hands on her fast. Based on my experience, her existence isn't as simple as the observation records suggest. If you keep stalling, EVER will end up losing more than they bargained for once she develops."
Raincoat ruminates that the drug Duckbill just took has an additional substance in it, used to "control" him. The goal is to "control" Shen Xinghui: his Evol is feeding into Unicorn's, using his love for her to EVER's advantage.
"Letting his lightblade serve her and becoming the strongest weapon in her hands is something the Resonance Evol can easily achieve. Shen Xinghui will surely give her every bit of himself... Love truly is a wonderful thing."
.
.
*1, The text reads, "It's always just been me at home. But with her and... /Things have started to change." That ellipsis haunts my dreams. *2, Unsure if this is the same backtracker Shen Xinghui merc'd in Galactic Sunset: Desecrated Soil.
I'm not sure if this is the same Raincoat as World Underneath: Long Lost Treasures, though I'm pretty sure it's not.
This section also confirms that Shen Xinghui/Backtrackers are from the future (though not necessarily the same 'timeline.')
And, for anyone wondering, 'anhaunsen' is essentially a root word for 'enhance.'

so the Rathalos is intentionally designed to work more like a Monster Hunter fight mechanically than an FFXIV fight, so you don't get the usual tells for specific attacks and have to rely on body language, that's the meta reasoning
in-universe though, the tells you get are a manifestation of the Echo, you're essentially reading the intent of the attack through the attacker's Aether (which we get to be on the other side of when Fordola gets her juiced up Resonance), so with the Rathalos, because it's from another world (though implications in dialogue and flavour text implies there's more than a few around and the Monster Hunter elements we see have been there long enough that Rathalos are recognisable and not even the Palico knows it's not supposed to be there), it's not naturally made of Aether, can't channel it and we can't read its intent because it's not integrated into the natural cycle yet
in the YoRHa raids, the machine lifeforms and androids don't fight any differently than anything else you've fought, with the usual Aetheric tells you normally get. now obviously on a meta level, this is because it's a raid series versus the Rathalos trial which can center around that gimmick. however, lore-wise, the NieR Automata canon establishes that the machines are constantly mining resources to build more of themselves and structures (hell the in-universe 'teleports' the androids use to get around aren't even actually teleports. it just deconstructs them to their base components at one station, stores the basic matter locally while transmitting the schematics and consciousness data to the receiving point and reconstructs using the locally stored matter at that point), meaning that when the machine lifeform rocket landed on the First, the network would've started using the local resources to start constructing the machines and androids that we see. and it's established that everything in the FFXIV is made of Aether, so the Echo is able to read their intent
(this also works as a way to disguise that it actually is a crossover and not like previous raids where it's a whole plot reference to another FF game with some details switched around set within the world of FFXIV - like how the Ivalice Raids play around with a lot of the details, allegiances and relationships of the Tactics and FFXII characters)

probably kind of inevitable in a game like final fantasy where people can transfer data centers for one to become like The raiding one but also it's kind of crazy. zero high end duty groups on crystal to over a hundred on aether

So, due to a situation that isn't my business to disclose, I've been feeling like I've lost a big part of the reason that kept me playing FFXIV. The story has me hooked, but the community I found in my Free Company is struggling a bit.
I am a bit shy in new communities, but I'd love to find more friends in-game! Currently with the limit to data center travel until 7.1, I'm stuck on Aether (my home DC). If y'all want to hang out and run some content, I'd love to see my fellow FFXIV RP-er's in game!
I'm looking to potentially join a group for savage when it comes out, but specifically I'm looking for a group that is super chill. I'm also down to learn and farm the new Extreme trials, and I'd be willing to join discords for it. I know I'm already in a few, I'm just struggling a lot currently with mental things and have a hard time reaching out to initiate things.
Feel free to dm if interested, or comment, or even message me on discord if we're friends on there!
