Day 1 of @completebastardsweek ... Whoo!
The rest of the days will probably either be missed, because I didn't enjoy writing my ideas as much as I thought I would, or will just be pretty damn late so don't have too much faith in me. All but one of the ones I do want to write will also be OC-centred like this one, because I am desperate to do something with my girls and also they are easier to write than canon characters because you can do whatever you want with them lmao
Anyways, TL;DR Vim reminisces on how he fucked up his longest relationship, just as he starts to fuck up another.
[Edit: Prompt is Childhood/Nostalgia, should have specified lol...]

Fic ask game number 11 <3
Thanks for the ask, anon!
11. What makes a fic 'successful' in your opinion?
Oof. That's a really tough one. Just finishing a fic would sometimes count as a success. 😂
I'm not sure I have a stable answer. Nothing of the one-size-fits-all variety, anyway. Sometimes, as I say, I might count just finishing a fic as a success - standalone piece fics I've had to wrangle with a lot, or the sweet relief and accomplishment of finishing a multichapter. Fics like my Once In Every Lifetime series, Punks and Princesses, A Bastard's Carol, The Day a Spaceship Landed on Codrington Road, and Vim Fuego's Tell-All Interview might fall into this category. My opinion on the actual quality of some of these fics is a different matter, but just getting to the end of them felt like an achievement to me.
On the other hand, I don't necessarily count all of my unfinished fics as failures, even the ones I've decided to basically abandon now due to too much time passing and my writing changing (*side-eyes Voices in the Library and Dizzie Lizzie*). I think they were helpful stepping stones and were fun while they lasted. So, sure, they're not successes in my eyes, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna delete them and see no value in them. If that's not too pretentious sounding? 😂
I also have a lot of multichapters in varying stages of progress that are not abandoned, and I'd regard some of them as successful in different ways, even though none are anywhere near finished. I think The Basterds of Hammersmith is successful just in the sense that it got me to write an OC - and some people like her! Likewise The Ghostly Ones, which is technically a taster of what is a planned multichapter, I'd regard as successful because writing that forced me to actually make progress on something that had been in the planning stage for soooo long. On the standalone piece side, Darling and The Shower Scene too are successes to me because they were both something I was nervous to write (namely, anything remotely NSFW 😂 - same applies to Vim Fuego's Tell-All Interview). And A Different, and Better, Time I'd also call a success not just because it's a finished multichapter, but because I got so unbelievably neurotic about the voice while writing it and managed to stick to a posting schedule (right until the end, anyway, when another fandom snagged my attention 😂).
So, I don't know is probably the answer I'm grasping for. I think fics are successful to me literally just based on my personal feelings. What I absolutely DO NOT base the success of a fic on is how much engagement it gets on Tumblr/ao3. For any fandom, but especially for small fandoms like ours, you'll just get depressed if you do that. It's not that I don't appreciate all the comments and kudos I get - I very much do! It's just, I don't decide a fic's worth based on them. If I did, ABC probably wouldn't ever have been finished, as it only started getting attention (that I could see via comments and kudos) after I posted the penultimate chapter. The 16K Alan Partridge fic I referenced above has only 65 hits, 4 kudos, and 1 comment thread over a year after its initial publication date. Does that mean it sucks? No! It just means hardly anyone is looking for Alan Partridge fic. 😂 Unsurprisingly.
I've waffled on for way too long in answering this. Basically: a fic is a success if the writer thinks it is. ❤️
Here's the ask list if you'd like to send me one. ✨

Pandemic Era Wrestling and how it helped me
You know I've been thinking a lot about the pandemic era of wrestling and how much it helped me. I am chronically ill and was not able to leave my house much during that time. It was a really tough time for me but what got me through it was wrestling.
We had Thea and Tom livestreams and YouTube vlogs. It was really cool to hear more about the person Tom is (Tom is Malakai Black btw). I think that is why it hit me so hard when he was released. Not only that but he was involved in one of my favorite storylines at that time.
Then we had so many AEW wrestlers streaming on Twitch. Sus Sunday became a part of my routine. Someone was always streaming, Leva Bates, Kip Sabian, Nyla Rose (if she could figure it out that day lol), Evil Uno, Brandon Cutler, Colt Cabana, Adam Cole, Ethan Page. They really became my comfort.
We had BTE during that time, the stuff with the Dark Order and their skits. We had Sammy's vlogs which introduced the vlog crew, which unfortunately is no longer since three of the four main ones are gone (Marko, Fuego, and Alan Angels). We had Ethan Page's vlogs, regrettably, I got into them a bit late during the pandemic.
We had Critical Botch, the D&D campaign with OC, Chuck, Leva, Peter, Brandon, Trent, and Colt.
We had so much content back then and I hope they know that they made a difference and helped so many people during that time.

The New York Botanical Garden, located on 250 acres across from the Bronx Zoo, possesses the largest herbarium anywhere outside of Europe. Among its treasures are wildflower specimens gathered on Captain Cook’s 1769 Pacific wanderings, and a shred of moss from Tierra del Fuego, with accompanying notes written in watery black ink and signed by its collector, C. Darwin. Most remarkable, though, is the NYBG’s 40-acre tract of original, old-growth, virgin New York forest, never logged.
Never cut, but mightily changed. Until only recently, it was known as the Hemlock Forest for its shady stands of that graceful conifer, but almost every hemlock here is now dead, slain by a Japanese insect smaller than the period at the end of this sentence, which arrived in New York in the mid-1980s. The oldest and biggest oaks, dating back to when this forest was British, are also crashing down, their vigor sapped by acid rain and heavy metals such as lead from automobile and factory fumes, which have soaked into the soil. It’s unlikely that they’ll come back, because most canopy trees here long ago stopped regenerating. Every resident native species now harbors its own pathogen: some fungus, insect, or disease that seizes the opportunity to ravish trees weakened by chemical onslaught. As if that weren’t enough, as the NYBG forest became an island of greenery surrounded by hundreds of square miles of gray urbanity, it became the primary refuge for Bronx squirrels. With natural predators gone and no hunting permitted, there’s nothing to stop them from devouring every acorn or hickory nut before it can germinate. Which they do.
There is now an eight-decade gap in this old forest’s understory. Instead of new generations of native oaks, maple, ash, birch, sycamore and tulip trees, what’s mainly growing are imported ornamentals that have blown in from the rest of the Bronx. Soil samplings indicate some 20 million ailanthus seeds sprouting here. According to Chuck Peters, curator of the NYBG’s Institute of Economic Botany, exotics such as ailanthus and cork trees, both from China, now account for more than a quarter of this forest.
“Some people want to put the forest back the way it was 200 years ago,” he says. “To do that, I tell them, you’ve got to put the Bronx back the way it was 200 years ago.”

No art for this chapter (yet) I'm afraid. Crashed out trying to get it done last night, gave up, and liked this chapter too much to wait much longer.
Anyways, more toxic ColVim (sfw) mpreg. The plot thickens (saddens, really).
(This probably still won't get much traction, like the last promo for this fic, but God loves a tryer lol.)

Fuego en la selva
Un hombre perdido en el juego
no es nada nuevo.
Un hombre bailando en el fuego
es algo bello.
Aquel joven se cansó
de beber y hablar
la vida se le fue
ya no puede cambiar
le encanta lo que escucha
le encanta lo que bebe
el elixir de los dioses
el juego de los hombres
un sueño de ilusiones
una vida como otra
una vida bella
una vida rota
llena de batallas y derrotas
una vida malgastada
llena de pecados
que pesan en el alma
un juegos de nudos
anudados en las trampas
llena de ideas
todas falsas
apostar para ganar
una idea que entender
falsedad al comprender
que solo tú
lo puedes ver
lo único verdadero en la selva
es el fuego
si alguna vez hubo algo
ya no lo habrá
el fuego lo quemará
y mostrará la verdad
Amén.
