There is always a certain relief - a lifting of weight, a reassurance - whenever he’s assured that Leia and Han are both safe. Alive. Not uninjured, especially in Han’s case, but safe. Han is in the medbay, and Luke’s already visited him a few times - even passed by once or twice and seen Leia visiting him. There is an immense warmth right there in his chest when he sees that way Leia softens in moments around Han.
Some things don’t change. Some things stay forever.
He and his sister haven’t had a moment for a true conversation since the Resistance base was destroyed. She was busy with Han and with the logistics of moving; he was busy trying to organize who he could, to take account of any lost and any dead. A Jedi’s good for that sort of work. Finally, though, things have begun to settle. They aren’t right or even well-off, but they are stable, which is about the most they can ask for in a time like this.
It’s enough where he can find time to actually talk with Leia with some minimal guilt about the larger matters he should be tending to for the Resistance. Luke has never been great at the larger concepts of rebellion, but he is, as always, very good at caring about individual people.
(There’s things she’s lost along with those six years of difference between them, and that includes, now that he considers it, some of what he taught her. So: they’ll just have to do it again.)
He knocks. Calls through Leia’s door: ❛❛ I swear I’m not here with bad news, just this once. ❞

The feeling of her arms around him was so familiar, a feeling he had not experienced in years. Likely more than he could remember, considering he still didn't even know just how much time had passed between the moment he'd died and the moment he'd found himself alive again. But it was unimportant to him at the moment, thinking all that mattered was that he was with his mother, that she was alive, safe. Well, as safe as they both could be, that was. The conditions they were in weren't exactly ideal, but at least they were together.
The way she comforted him so softly and motherly caused a sob to escape his lungs, still unable to hold back from the built up emotions that were now being released after so long. Even if she hadn't remembered him, her reaction was much calmer than he would have expected it to be, and for just a little while it was as if nothing had changed at all. As if he were still a young boy, hugging his mother goodbye just before he went to train with his uncle. But he wasn't a little boy anymore, and this time, he was hugging her hello.
It wasn't difficult for him to sense the tension she felt at the mention of his grandfather, and Anakin realized that there was a chance that she didn't even have the memories of him being redeemed, of Luke pulling him back to the light...of her giving him his name. His eyes widened slightly in concern before she finally spoke again, assuring him that she did remember that much. But it still seemed to be a surprise to her, the fact that Leia had picked that particular name for him. He tried to gauge just how much she might remember, but it was something he figured he would have to ask her himself.
But the worry in her voice when she asked him about the First Order causing his throat to clench a bit, though he shook his head quickly. He had just discovered that the First Order was basically a revival of the Empire, and while the people who had handled him so far weren't particularly gentle, he hadn't been harmed. "No, they didn't, I-I'm okay," Anakin assured her, squeezing her arms gently. "They didn't hurt you, did they?" His expression tightened at the thought of it, but looking over her briefly, she seemed to be fine as well. He let his head fall against her shoulder again, never wanting to have to let go of her. "...Mom," He whispered again, grateful that he had the chance to use that word again. "What's going on...W-Why are we here, what do they want from us...and...h-how much do you remember?"
. anakin :
He was terrified that she might not reciprocate. That she might push him away in confusion or discomfort, not knowing who he was or why he was holding on to her with all that he had. But she didn’t - instead she was wrapping her own arms around him gently, caressing the back of his head. The gesture brought tears to his eyes, a shaky breath escaping him as his chest heaved with emotion. He never thought he’d be able to hug his mother again, yet here he was.
Anakin wasn’t sure how much time had passed with the two of them sitting there, enveloped in each other’s arms, but he couldn’t be bothered to keep track. However, it seemed like ages had gone by before she pulled away just slightly enough to be able to look him in the eyes, and his lower lip trembled simply at the sight of her face.
She knew his name.
His eyes immediately widened, and he nodded urgently, his arms gripping her own a bit tighter as he realized it. Leia knew who he was. She might not remember him the way he wished she did (she was younger, after all), but this was much better than her never knowing of him at all. As much as he didn’t want to scare her off, he couldn’t help his arms from shaking hers lightly, eyes blinking widely at his mother.
“That’s my name,” Anakin spoke fervently, wanting her to know without a doubt that he was indeed her son. “Y-You told me you named me after my grandfather…after Uncle Luke managed to pull him back to the light, and saved him…do you know that? D-Do you remember?”
For a moment or two she felt small again; the way he shook in her arms reminding her of the first time she’d had a nightmare and went running to her mother for comfort. Breha had done exactly what she was doing now, holding on gently, a hand against the base of her neck.
It’s only a dream, they can’t touch you or hurt you, Leia.
But this wasn’t a dream. This wasn’t the simple fears of a six - year - old becoming so vivid they caused her to dash down the hall. This was real —– Anakin was real. Her SON. She and Han had certainly spoken about the idea of children, that she remembered. With the war over and PEACE on the horizon ( hopefully for the foreseeable future ), the notion of bringing a child into the world ( or two, or three ——- who knew! Neither one of them had come from a large family, maybe it was time to change that ) seemed like something they were both enthusiastic about.
And now she finds herself in the middle instead of the start.
“Shh —- it’s alright. You’re alright. I’m here.”
At the mention of his namesake —— his grandfather, her birth father, she felt her chest tighten just a little. Anakin Skywalker was not someone she spoke of often. After Endor and their father’s passing Luke had asked her a few times to find it in her heart to forgive him, to let the FEELINGS she had for him go. But she’d been stubborn about it ( nothing new; Luke should have known what he was getting himself into ) and always found a way to deflect. What could have made her change her mind? “I remember. I remember your grandfather. I remember what Luke did.” Was it him? Had he been the push she needed to forgive him? How can she tell him she doesn’t remember HIM?
"But Anakin —–” There she went, deflecting again. Why talk about ghosts when she could talk to flesh and blood? HER flesh and blood? “they didn’t hurt you, did they? The First Order? Because if they did ————————-”

“I hate to sound like I’m complaining, I just can not stand staying grounded.” Especially in times as tense as this, Shara needed to be in the air or space. Whether she was fighting or just flying to clear her head, she needed to be away from solid ground.
“How are you handling this, your highness?”

The first thing Luke does after consciousness returns to him (and, to be honest, it’s not quite the first - there’s some vehement cursing first and sitting through a few briefings that amount to orientation) is ask where the hell is my sister. He knows that she’s here. Her presence is as familiar to him, half of his own soul somewhere on Coruscant, and he knows for certain that she would commit herself to the cause of the Resistance. Because it’s still the same cause that she committed herself to the first time he saw her in that recording on Tatooine, that blue-green projection shot through with static.
So he maneuvers his way around meetings and briefings, avoiding obligations until he can finally catch Leia alone after a meeting. It’s like half of them think that if they leave Luke alone he’s going to summon the Force and evaporate into thin air. That’s not even possible.
She walks out of the room, her presence as familiar and striking as ever, and Luke pushes himself off of the wall. ❛❛ Leia, he says, reaching out to pull her into a hug. His thoughts are such a mess - I missed you, I’m glad you’re here, even if things should be better, and they aren’t, and I don’t know what we did wrong.
He doesn’t say any of that, of course. Those aren’t thoughts for a public hallway, especially not from the mouth of Luke Skywalker.

“Your highness?”
Shara hadn’t seen her or her brother in ages, but the pilot would know that senator anywhere. She had always admired her and praised her so to see Leia once again, and in such strange circumstances, was refreshing.

continued from here
The woman’s voice was still different from what she had expected, but Rey knew it would take a bit of time to adjust to this new, younger Leia. However, she was already warming up to her easily, just as she’d expected she would. Hearing that Leia had been looking for her made Rey’s expression brighten slightly, as she could definitely use a distraction from her work right now and even more so, a friend to talk to. “You have? Is everything alright?” Her face fell slowly when she realized it might be some kind of trouble. “What happened?”
But then her voice drifted, and Rey could tell that Leia was reading her easily. She had never been good at hiding her emotions, and clearly her anxiety was painted all over her features. Still, the fact that already Leia was able to pick up on her habits was definitely a good sign regarding the connection between the two of them. It was still present, that was for sure.
The kiss on her cheek was unexpected, but welcomed, as Rey glanced at her nervously, unsure how to explain to her exactly everything that had been running through her mind lately. Leia still didn’t know the entire story of her own past, and that made it even more difficult to be completely honest with her. “I’m...alright, just a bit anxious,” Rey admitted, looking down at the ground momentarily as she bit her lip. “Mainly because of the stolen files, and being worried they’ll find out who did it...but there’s a lot of things. I’ve tried to calm myself down, but it’s been difficult...But don’t worry about me, really...” The last thing she wanted was for Leia to become distressed - she already had enough on her own plate to manage. “I’ll be fine. What were you coming to find me for?”

🌟 …someone my muse trusts.
Rey is definitely an easily trusting person, but there are only a few people she’d truly open her heart to. The people at the top of her list would have to be Finn, Leia, Han and Luke. She knows these people wouldn’t judge her, and would be willing to help her get through anything. She is eternally grateful to have them in her life.

“I don’t think it’s about us being safe.” They’d all agreed once before to be all - in on this sort of thing. They had known and accepted the risks that came along with defying an Empire. Sacrifices had been made, people had died. What worried her so much MORE was the fact that what they’d been able to achieve hadn’t stuck.
The best of the best.
Could she really live up to that kind of expectation anymore knowing somewhere along the way she hadn’t been able to secure peace? Her father had trusted her to lead. And yet here they were, back again at the beginning. “I think it’s about making sure this time we stop them for good.”
“No, it really isn’t. Just doing the same things we have already done decades ago, to win essentially the same war.” Shara didn’t mean to sound so annoyed in front of Leia, she was just frustrated. “This First Order - who’s their leader? Their goal?”
