THE ROYAL CHRONICLES : The Royal Wedding of Prince William & Catherine Middleton .* :☆゚。 ・
HRH Prince William Arthur Philip Louis and Miss. Catherine Elizabeth Middleton married in a religious ceremony at Westminster Abbey on what is my favourite day ever aka 29 April, 2011.
For the day, William was in the red tunic of the Colonel of the Irish Guards uniform with a forage cap bearing the Irish Guards insignia. He wore the Order of the Garter Star and Blue Riband to which his RAF Wings & Golden Jubilee Medal were fastened.
Meanwhile Catherine was a fairytale disney princess in a dress by Surah Burton of Alexander McQueen with the Cartier Scroll Tiara and a pair of diamond acorn earrings from Robinson Pelham. Her bridal bouquet featured myrtle, lily-of-the-valley, sweet William, ivy, and hyacinth.
Catherine was walked down the aisle by her father, Michael with whom she had travelled from Goring Hotel. Her sister Pippa was the maid of honour.
Will & Cat vowed to love, honour and cherish each other during the ceremony performed by the Archbishop of Cantebury.
He gave Catalina a ring made from Welsh Gold keeping with the tradition within the Royal Family.
Following the ceremony in true fairytale fashion, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled in a horse-drawn carriage procession to Buckingham Palace.
They appeared on the Palace Balcony and shared TWO KISSES to the delight of the crowd gathered below and to my Disney obsessed self who'd been glued to the TV the entire time.
A Reception was held by the Queen in their honour at Bucking Palace, after which William drove his babykins to Clarence House in an Aston Martin DB6 Volante. Another private dinner was hosted by The Prince of Wales for his son and new daughter-in-law.
This was quite literally THE WEDDING OF THE CENTURY! Aaaahhh all those feels of the day, everything was just perfect. Honestly for me nothing is ever topping twenty-ninth of april of 2011. And I don't think there was anyone who wasn't enveloped by the happiness radiating off of these two that day.
Nobody can talk about the day without talking about the goddess that our homegirl looked like that day, KateEffect had always been a thing but THIS DRESS like >>>>

Hi I’m a new follower of Brigid, what things are sacred to her - animals, crystals, plants ect
Wikipedia came up with the birch tree being sacred to her but other sources have the oak
If you also have any books/info sources where I can learn more about her I’d love to hear your reccomendations
Hello, welcome to the hearth! So, what I know about Brigid, I've learned from books, blogs, videos, and historical sources. I'll list some of those first so you can do some deep diving yourself:
Brigid: History, Mystery, and Magick of the Celtic Goddess by Courtney Weber (available through Hoopla via the public library system if you're in the US, available through her Etsy shop as well) - this was written by a self-appointed priestess of Brigid practicing in Ireland and the US.
The House Witch by Arin Hiscock-Murphy and The Kitchen Witch by Skye Alexander (both also available through Hoopla I believe and most places books are sold) both have brief bios of Brigid and some tips for working with her as a hearth goddess - take these with a slight grain of salt as they have some Wiccan influence.
Lots of books of Irish folklore include some stories of the Tuatha de Danann, which are the gods of Ireland. There's also some great stories in Scottish and Welsh folklore that you can look into - try The Mabinogion for more information about her Welsh pantheon.
Brigid's Wiki has some great sources at the bottom to jump to.
A profile of the Lady from Druidry.org - take this with a mild grain of salt.
History Cooperative's entry on Brigid - this focuses a lot on her Spring goddess aspect.
Encyclopedia Britannica's entry about Brigid (using the Scottish spelling, Brigit) has some solid base info.
A quick and easy video overview
A look at the Welsh pantheon of which Brigid (in Cymru, Braid) is a part
I don't have a specific source for this, but you might also look into St. Brigid of Kildare, an Irish saint who led a convent centered on a site holy to the goddess Brigid and is popularly interpreted as either a priestess of Brigid who carried her practice in secret through the conversion of Ireland or a version of the goddess herself accepted as a folk saint by practitioners who "converted" to save themselves from Christian "missionaries."
Obviously this isn't everything I've read/looked at, but it's a pretty good starter set of information if you're just starting working with her and not sure what aspects of Brigid you'd like to work with. So now, I'll share what I interpret as her symbols and associations, then what working with her looks like for me. Your experience will probably be different, and that's good! Deity relationships are personal and up to what you need them to be. Hope this helps!
My interpretation of Brigid's symbology:
Basic domain/"Goddess of":
Fire, inspiration, creative works (poetry especially)
Healing, wells, flowing/healing water
The forge, handicrafts (weaving, knitting, crochet, etc.)
Springtime, fertility, rebirth
Associated holidays:
Imbolc (February 1-2)
Associated colors:
Yellow
Orange
Gold
White
Associated animals:
Cows
Sheep
Domesticated animals/livestock generally
Associated herbs/gems:
Marigolds
Sunflowers
Oaks/acorns
Citrine
Red Jasper
Associated food/drinks:
Bread
Wheat
Water
Mead
Milk
Honey
Spiced things - apple cider, cinnamon rolls, etc.
What working with Brigid looks like for me:
Brigid is a motherly figure to work with, but in a more "tough love" sense than some other mother figures. She's willing to work with you and help you grow, but boy will she tell you when you fuck up! I've found working with her to be comforting and encouraging; she makes me feel confident in myself and my abilities and she pushes me to be a better witch, a better mother, and a better person generally.
You don't have to worship Brigid as the only deity in your work, either. In my practice, I've found she gets along well with the Virgin Mary and is cordial with Lady Minerva. She also seems to get on well with Jesus and the Abrahamic God, though she doesn't really get involved with those outside her pantheon.
I've found that the best ways of communicating with Brigid are through tarot, ogham, and astragalomancy (dice). She likes offerings of things you've made - bread you baked, spice mixes you put together, things you've crocheted or knitted or woven or sewn. She also loves tea - making a cup and sharing it with her is a great way to venerate her! I feel her presence as a warmth, like a fire in my chest and a warm blanket over my shoulders. She likes working with me in kitchen witchery and workings related to creativity, inspiration, luck, and healing. I keep space for her in my main altar and my kitchen altar, though I think if she had to choose, she'd prefer to be venerated in a kitchen altar.

(Over)Analyzing the Cards in Johnny’s Joker Trick (Part 1)
New character, new minute details to overly scrutinize and pretend have meaning!
As of Strive, Johnny’s Joker Trick Instant Kill has been retooled into an Overdrive, and with it, everyone now has a unique card taken from existing card suites. Are they randomly assigned? Or do they fit into some symbolic meaning? Let’s pretend its the latter!
Due to the sheer amount of characters and limited number of face cards, a handful of them overlap. It’s a little surprising that there’s no numeral cards or aces included, as those do have some symbolism based on the numbers, but maybe that in itself is already symbolic, that he views his opponents with relative seriousness, or just that he doesn’t both doing anything less than off the highest caliber.
Also to be noted that a lot of card symbolism is looser than something like tarot and doesn’t necessarily have as much concrete meaning, so I’m not gonna pretend this isn’t anything other than speculation and fiddling around. We’re bringing in some Cartomancy and a lot of the info I found could be a little muddled, if not contradictory
For the sake of cleanliness and coherency, let’s go by hierarchy. I’m also gonna be breaking this into two halves for the sake of length and not having a million character tags
-
The Joker- solely belongs to Happy Chaos. Batman jokes aside, this makes for an obvious one. Happy is the wild card, the unpredictable element. Though it was originally designed to be a trump card for Euchre, not it performs a variety of functions based on the game being played. It can be the highest-ranking, lowest-ranking, or serve some other technical function in a game. The value and usage of a joker card varies wildly based on the context, which fits Happy well (interestingly, Johnny doesn’t use the Joker card despite the design being based on himself)
-
Kings
King of Clubs- Shared between Ky Kiske and Zato-1. Contemporary King of Clubs cards are designed after Alexander the Great, which fits well for both the reigning monarch of Illyria and the former puppetmaster of the Assassin’s Guild. A lot of the symbolism I found involved leadership qualities such as intuition and determination. The suit itself is generally associated with nature, thanks to it being interpreted as a clover or as acorns, which may draw in some motifs about growth and change, which may also have some relevance with Ky’s ascent to the throne and subsequent abdication, and the dissolution of the Guild.
King of Diamonds- Held solely by Leo. In contemporary design this one is based of of Caesar, and while the man hopefully has little to do with the tyrannical behavior or assassination, there may be a form of connection in terms of battle prowess. It tends to be shown a little more negatively, either in terms of his domineering power or his sense of haughtiness. There’s also an association with wealth, which while not necessarily specific to Leo, it may fit in him being a powerful king and his association with the color yellow/gold
King of Hearts- Curiously, shared between Potemkin and Johnny. Johnny’s is an obvious choice, he sees himself as a king of romance and chivalry. Potemkin, however, has never been shown in a romantic light, unless it pertains to his patriotic love for his nation. Generally, the card has motifs of kindness, benevolence, and consideration, and both are shown as relatively mature gentleman-types, who care much for others. In an interesting bit of trivia, the King of Hearts is also sometimes called the ‘suicide king’ as it appears to be driving the sword into his own head. Fittingly, both Johnny and Potemkin both die trying to protect others in non-canonical endings, Johnny being murdered by Testament after trying to protect Dizzy in XX and in the drama CD, and Potemkin getting in the way of an attempted assassination in AC
King of Spades- Shared between Chipp and Bedman/Delilah. Design-wise, the most well-known iteration is based off of the biblical King David, known for his act of singlehandedly slaying the goliath with a stone. Though the two of them aren’t on the same end of the moral spectrum, both Chipp and Bedman are characterized by fighting difficult odds for their own sake and the sake of helping others. The spade suit more generally has an association with violence, as it can be interpreted as a blade (in addition to a leaf or a trowel), and both are known for their usage of blades and get into a lot of physical altercations. Interestingly, Bedman is the only King card who hasn’t held any canonical position of authority. Likewise, Chipp’s is self-bestowed

Winter Acorn Festival
Instead of Christmas, the Kingdom of Acorn celebrates the Winter Acorn Festival. The Winter Acorn Festival celebrates the founding of the Kingdom of Acorn.
Before the Kingdom of Acorn, the mobian tribes on the Acorn Archipelago were being lorded over by the hyena tribe (led by King Leer). And because each of the tribes kept to themselves, it was easy for King Leer to keep the other mobians oppressed.
But when a group of mobians came together (led by Alexander Acorn), they dethroned King Leer and the hyena tribe disbanded. Seeing how well the mobians could work together, Alexander rallied the mobian tribes together to found Mobotropolis.

@pestisly @heytherewerewolvesitsmeyagirl @technicoloryuri Ok so I fell asleep about ten seconds after making that post, but now I'm awake and slacking off at work, so....
Let's talk playing cards!
I wager the majority of us are familiar with what's known as the Anglo-American pattern of cards, which are a derivative of French standard pattern (kind of, it's complicated). But the origin of the kind of playing cards that we would recognise are all based cards made in Mamluk Egypt, which in turn were based on Chinese playing cards. Playing cards would enter European material culture around the late 14th century, and immediately split into regional derivatives as examples from Egypt arrived in Italy, Spain, the Low Countries, and France.
The French pattern first appeared based on Spanish pattern cards around 1377, but the suits (diamonds, clubs, spades, and hearts) are based on German suits (bells, acorns, leaves, and hearts). Spanish suits are more familiar to those who know those of the tarot deck (coins, cups, batons, and swords), with Italian cards being similar.
The court cards of today (king, queen, jack) have also changed a lot over time. Sometimes Queens have been entirely absent, with the court cards instead being King-Knight-Page (as based on Spanish patterns), whereas other decks from the late mediaeval and early modern era replaced two kings with queens. Interestingly enough, the court cards of the French pattern to this day are meant to represent historical and biblical figures: the king of hearts is Charlemagne, of clubs Alexander the Great, of spades King David, and of diamonds Julius Caesar. The king of diamonds in the Anglo-American pattern is the only king to appear standing in profile, and it is thought that this came about because Caesar appears in profile on old Roman coins.
In German patterns, the court cards are usually King-Lady-Baron when emulating the French pattern, but the older Germanic playing card patterns have the court cards as King-Ober-Unter (for the Over Knave and Under Knave, old military ranks).
Here are some examples:

Franconian Pattern - Exhibiting the Germanic suits of bells, acorns, leaves, and hearts, and court cards of King-Ober-Unter

The evolution of the King of Hearts from the Rouennais pattern to the more recognisable Anglo-American pattern

The evolution of the King of Hearts in the Paris pattern: note the named historical figure of Charlemagne
Spanish National / Old Catalan pattern - Exhibiting the Italiano-Spanish suits of coins, cups, swords, and batons, and the court cards of King-Knight-Page
Even with this limited sample you can see connections between the different patterns, particularly between the Old Catalan King of Swords and the Maréchal 1567 King of Hearts, which would ultimately become the Anglo-American pattern King of Hearts AND the Paris pattern King of Hearts
This has all been kind of disjointed and I want to make a proper post linking all the European card patterns but that's going to take forever as each country has so many regional derivatives and I haven't even tackled Tarocco/Tarock/Scarto decks which contain the trumps that will later be called the Major Arcana in tarot reading circles and I have to get dressed for work now so I'm not done yet.
